NOTE: TRIGGER WARNING
6 Things They Don’t Tell You About Royal Ascot
Posted by Holly de Gavre
13 June 2022
Elaborate hats and fancy dresses can’t distract from the cruelty on the track at Royal Ascot.
Numerous horses have been injured, died, or been killed after racing at Ascot, one of the UK’s most dangerous flat racing tracks.
Here are six reasons why Royal Ascot – and all horse-racing events – should be shut down:
Tumblr media
1. Horses Suffer and Die at Ascot
Over the past decade, 28 horses have died in jumps and flat races at Ascot.
Some of the causes of death have included fractured pasterns, fetlocks, cannon bones, pelvises, and legs.
Pushed to the breaking point, others have collapsed and died during or after the race.
Instead of acknowledging the immense suffering that horses are forced to endure at Ascot, race managers view fatalities as “side effects” of training and competition.
Tumblr media
2. Horses Are Often Abused by Jockeys
Jockeys whip horses to push them to their physical and mental limits.
Almost every single year at Royal Ascot, riders breach the rules regarding whips and the horses endure severe beatings.
Tumblr media
3. Horses May Be Drugged
Drugs, both legal and illegal, are as ubiquitous in racing as ridiculous hats are at Ascot.
Horses may be drugged to mask the pain of existing injuries and conditions, keeping them running when they should be resting or receiving treatment. And illegal drugs are sometimes used to try to make horses run faster.
For example, Mahmood al-Zarooni – a trainer with one of the world’s biggest horse-racing operations – was banned from racing for eight years for doping horses with prohibited steroids.
Tumblr media
4. Horses May Be ‘Retired’ to the Abattoir
When horses used for racing get too old or stop performing well enough to be profitable, they’re often sent to slaughter.
Approximately 1,000 horses from the industry are killed in abattoirs in Britain every year and turned into dog food or cheap meat, while others face horrific live-export journeys to Europe.
Tumblr media
5. They’re Forced to Race While They’re Still Growing
Making horses risk their lives on the racetrack is wrong, regardless of their age.
But it’s especially heartbreaking to learn that these animals are commonly forced to begin racing when they’re barely more than babies and their bodies are especially prone to damage.
It’s hardly surprising, then, that injuries, lameness, and exhaustion are common.
Tumblr media
6. It’s All About the Money
Royal Ascot rewards its winners – including horse owners, jockeys, and trainers – with mammoth sums of money.
Motivated by increasing their wealth, they totally disregard horses’ health and well-being.
What You Can Do
Please help hasten the end of this exploitative industry by encouraging your friends and family never to attend horse-racing events like Royal Ascot or watch them on TV.
Betting on horse racing also bolsters this exploitative practice, so if you enjoy having a flutter, put your money on a football match or any other sport in which the participants are willing athletes, not mistreated animals.

King Edward VII (1841-1910) at races , one of his loved elements together with house and shooting parties. Differently from his parents Queen Victoria and Prince Albert who considered horse racing and house parties decadent, in his younger years as Prince of Wales with plenty of money ‘Bertie’ made his vision of life, full of pleasures, the fashionable trend of the British Society , thus leading it out from the severe Victorian Age. Great aristocrats and High Society members immediately followed the Prince and his desires, as a friendship with him was the best guarantee of social success. That was the start of the Edwardian era ( 1860s-1914), during which all the main components of the elegant way of life of the British Aristocracy and upper classes were established and became major events and traditions :during the Season race meetings such as Epsom , Royal Ascot, Newmarket and Goodwood with the involvement of ladies that were expected to talk about racing and to be well dressed at races; after the Season (August and September) country house and shooting parties in which the host and the hostess had to supply rooms in their homes for all the guests and the guest’s maids and footmen as well as meals ,outdoor sports activities in addition to shooting such as tennis, cricket, golf, and evening balls. That kind of gatherings has been so perfectly described in Gosford Park movie by Robert Altman (2002). This Edwardian way of life has had also a great influence on the classic menswear history as fabric patterns and cloth styles, which had origin in country wear, were subsequently adopted, in a beautiful admixture of the two clothing worlds, also for town wear with particular regard , but not exclusively, to informal occasions such as attending sports events, leisure strolling and traveling. This is another relevant legacy left to us by Edward VII , King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India , whose world ended with the start of the World War I ( 1914-1918).

To be honest, I was wondering how long it would take the work rate people to come back. These past few months must have been hell for them. I’ve even started seeing them question why Kate isn’t back at work now that she’s going outside and walking (as if that was the problem) 🤐
Also, I’ve noticed that for some pf them, it’s not about not being informed about the meeting. It’s about not seeing them and being able to generate content, have conversations and criticise them every single day - hence why they don’t pay attention to the royals they praise.
I agree that there needs to be more consistency on KP’s part but also acknowledge that this fandom criticises William and Kate for every breath they take so it makes me not want to criticise them. And also, there are a lot of royals who do the same things they do and they say nothing. Camilla missed several coronation events (even though it was her coronation) but instead chose to attend every single day of Ascot yet never do I see her being criticised for not working hard or concentrating on her “interests”. But you can generate fashion chat from Cheltenham, Ascot etc. so they don’t say anything because that’s truly what some people want.
Also, they always say that if William and Catherine aren’t seen every single day, they’ll lose relevance which is obviously not the case seeing how well Catherine’s “disappearance” has gone and how people can’t stop talking about and following W&C even when they don’t like them.
1000000000% all of this. Every single word. No notes. Perfection.

If anyone wants my ranking for the first year of the reign of King Charles, here it is:
King Charles 5/10 Barely adequate, needs to focus on outstanding issues in his family (if he returns Harry and/or Andrew as a working royal he gets an automatic fail from me)
Queen Camilla 3/10 Can do better, needs to improve her attendance at events and stop placing her non royal children ahead of blood royals e,g, the Ascot carriage parade
Both of them need to lay off the ego-boosting PR and focus on doing the job.
PS Feel free to add your own rankings :)

I'm loving the idiots being pressed about the Middletons.. I love how butthurt they are that they are included soo much
Also for the dumbasses in the back, other family members are routinely invited to royal events.. Camilla's sister attends Wimbledon with her, Sophie's dad has ridden in Ascot carriages numerous times
And the one time there was an issue with the Midds was when Pippa rode with Kate to Wimbledon, ie taxpayer funded transportation.. which Kate accordingly got criticized for.. but sure babe
Which unless you saw her in the RAF plane with, mind your business 😚
Anyways keep staying mad cuz they will be around for many many years to come.. #familyofthefutureQC 😂😗

Fantasy Guide to the Season
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Season is the period within the year where the social elite, the wealthy and the noblity usually return to the the city for a long string of events, balls and dinners. It was a time for luxury, for pleasure and most importantly to socially socially by networking.
A Change in Locale
Tumblr media
The Season drew all the nobles and wealthy back from their country estates and abroad back to the capital. At the height of the Season in the years preceding WWI, most of the elite held homes within the City where they would move into while the Season was on. There would have been a mad rush to return to the capital in order to be at the very centre of things. Since the English Season always coincides with sittings of Parliament, all members of both Houses take part in the Season.
Social Events of the Year
Tumblr media
The Season was a string of events of mixed variety ranging from the arts to sports to royal rituals between April and August. In the UK some the most recognizable events of the year belong to the Season such as the Grand National and Wimbledon. The Season was also the time for debutants to make their social debut and when royal orders such as the Order of the Garter would be bestowed. Between all the official events, most of the nobility and elite would throw dinner parties, tea afternoons, salons and balls.
To give you an idea of the range of events we will use the English Season as an example of all the events that run in this time: Glyndebourne Opera, The Proms, Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, West End theatre Horticulture, Chelsea Flower Show, Royal Ascot, Cheltenham Gold Cup, Badminton Horse Trials, Grand National, Royal Windsor Horse Show, Epsom Derby, Glorious Goodwood, Cartier Queen's Cup, Trooping the Colour, Garter Service of the Order of the Garter, Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Boat Race, Henley Royal Regatta, Guards Polo Club, The Championships, Wimbledon, Cowes Week, Lord's Test cricket match. Since the Season also coincided with the marriage market, there would be a lot of engagements announced and weddings held.
At the end of the Season, usually around the 12th of August the elite would leave the city and return to the country for the hunting and shooting season.
What to Wear to the Season
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like most tradition heavy events, the Season was all about dressing appropriately. Wear the wrong thing and everyone you want to impress will see it. At polo matches, the gentlemen wear a blazers and strictly white trousers. Ladies are encouraged to wear flat shoes at these events. At the Royal Regatta, gentlemen wear lounge jackets and ties, and are permitted to wear their club colours as a show of support. It is usually traditional to wear boater hats. The ladies must wear dresses or skirts, with the hem below the knee. Women do not need to wear hats to these events. At events as such as Royal Ascot, everyone wears hats. The men wear either morning dress with waistcoat and a top hat, usually in grey or black. The only time a man removes his top hat is when he's dining, sitting in a box, on the balcony or within the Royal Enclosure. Ladies also must wear hats and are absolutely not permitted to show off shoulders. At the Presentation of the debutants, the traditional choice for the debutantes is a white court dress (though soft pinks and shades of white are permitted). The dress was short sleeved and had to have a train. The debutante wore long white gloves, a veil in her hair with three white ostrich feathers and jewels. Before the debutant has been introduced, she would hold her train over her arm and then let it fall when she has been presented.
How to Have a Successful Season
Tumblr media
The Season was essentially there to keep all the nobles and elite entertained while they fulfilled political duties. Against the backdrop of fun and politics, there was a competition going on. Different hostesses would battle to throw the best parties, the most exclusive balls, the most interesting dinner parties. Families would spend lavish amounts of money fighting to impress and remain relevant. If one wants a successful social Season, one has to obtain as many invites as possible and establish one's self at the centre of the elite social sets. To be seen at all the top events was a sign of success and in this success, you can begin to advance socially by making contacts with influential peers or to advance through the marriage market. As a host, the most important guests such as Dukes, Marquesses and any royal family member marks you as one of the top tier hosts.

BALSIMORE, Windenburg (SNN) - Queen Katherine is back at one of the biggest social events of the year; Royal Ascot!
The monarch, 31, arrived at Royal Ascot on Saturday after missing the horse racing event last year due to maternity leave. It is the first engagement to go into her diary at the start of the year.
We were all waiting to see what color the Queen would wear and, for this year's outing, the monarch wore a yellow Bea dress by @theroyalsims, with a matching Princess of...IX hat by @rustys-cc — and arrived to cheers from the crowd of racegoers.
Tumblr media
Easton Racecourse is rich in history and heritage, hosting one of the world's most prestigious race meetings, Royal Ascot, as well as 13 of Windenburg's annual Flat Group 1 horse races, and numerous Grade 1 Jumps races. Designed by @albanyroyals, it is a popular Windenburg venue!
Tumblr media
The Queen, who adores racing and loves Ascot, is scheduled to bring guests, and members of her family with her on each of the three days of the event. We will be excited to see if yellow will remain Her Majesty's color theme.
Tumblr media
Missing from Her Majesty's attire is a brooch! The new Queen has already become quite synonymous for adorning many of the pieces within the Jewels of the Crown.
Rainier, Prince consort looked dashing in a @melonsloth morning suit and top hat. As Chair of the Queens Coronation Committee, His Royal Highness has been quite busy. Invites were released last week confirming May 18th as the day of the Queens Coronation.
Tumblr media
Riding in the first Carriage with Her Majesty and the Prince consort are the Grand Duke and Duchess of Glimmerbrook.
Tumblr media
The Grand Duke and Duchess were elated to accompany Her Majesty on Day 1 of the Ascot. Considered a prestigious honor, it symbolizes a strong bond between the two nations.
Tumblr media
Glimmerbrook, less than two years ago ceded from Oasis Springs and regained sovereignty, in a deal many believe His late Majesty George I was a strong supporter of.
Tumblr media
The Duke and Duchess of Kent, and the Earl and Countess of Boykins followed in the second carriage.
Tumblr media
The Duchess of Kent looked chic in a vintage 1960s Audrey Hepburn dress and white cocktail hat.
Avid equestrians, the Duke and Duchess have attended Day 1 of Royal Ascot for the past 24 years.
Tumblr media
The Earl and Countess of Boykins were equally chic, while the earl enjoyed his first Ascot as a member of the royal family. The Princess looked classic in purple wearing a Cordelia dress by @sentate, and another gorgeous cocktail hat by @melonsloth.
Tumblr media
Everyone is waiting to catch a blimps of the Queen. Despite the fact that we've had some showers, it hasn't dampened Sims spirits. They are all in, keen to see her!
Tumblr media
You'll notice the carriages are open and, unless it is pouring down, the monarch will keep the carriage top open to be seen. For many, this is the closest opportunity they will get to the monarch.
Tumblr media
Having become close with the foreign royals since becoming Queen, it's speculated that the Duke of Glimmerbrook is on Her Majesty's short list to be invested as a Knight of the Order of the Garter in June.
Tumblr media
The Queen will take a right, the same way the winners of the race this afternoon will take, under that tunnel to end the royal procession; but not before passing the Wayne Roof where a reception for Her Majesty will be held.
Tumblr media
The Queen arrived, welcomed by Gary Baumgartner, Her Majesty's representative here at Ascot, Alvin Duvalton, the Chairman, Richard Paxton, Co-Chairman, and four trustees of the business.
Tumblr media
Her love of this sport just glows ever strong! Journalists, Anderson Crooper said this week, "Racing is so lucky to have Her Majesty the Queen continuing the legacy of Ascot started by her great-grandparents in this sport." Sentiments we here at SNN echo!
This concludes SNNs coverage of Royal Ascot: The Royal Procession Day 1.

I am disappointed 😞 to see a lot of recent pictures (Coronation/THE Wedding, Trooping of the Colors, Royal Ascot and engagement photos) of Camilla have been obviously photoshopped. She is also bring her family into all these events like they are Royal, something I don't fully agree with. Next we will hear them getting titles or awards from her or KCIII. I fully supported her before the late MTQII passed, but I don't like what I see now and I feel let down. Sorry for the rant.
The monarchy has changed….rant anytime, I do understand 😔

Guess what? It's time for a horse headcanon!!! A Hawthorne horse headcanon to be exact. From racehorses to heavy drafts, one thing’s for sure, the Hawthorne estate is not short on equines. As mentioned in the riding headcanon, there is a big stable further out on the property because they would otherwise be shunned by the rest of rich Texan society (yes, it’s totally a necessity as a part of the initiation according to Xander). Tobias Hawthorne had it made the year Skye was born but for Zara’s birthday and though there were annual renovations much like with the House, the next major section was added when Nash was five.
I think it most fitting to start off with the Hawthorne sisters, so let’s get into it. When they were little girls, as with most things, Zara and Skye fought over toys, accessories, clothes, and… ponies. (Yes, yes, I know that Zara was a shy, bookish child to quote Nan but they also fight in TIG over the inheritance so you can’t tell me that didn’t happen as they’re close in age.) Tobias had a grand selection of ponies that were different breeds with various strengths but there was one pony that stood out from the rest and of course, both of them had to have him. His name was Smokey, a Welsh Cob (Section D-heaviest of Welsh Ponies and Cob) dapple gray gelding that was a previous champion driving pony before he was retired. The girls loved him and neither of them wanted to let up; what’s worse is that he came with a sparkly light blue set and it was absolute chaos. Their father, for once, was beside himself so their mother had to jump in and what they would do is take the girls out on rides with him when the other was out, letting both believe that the other one gave up on Smokey when in fact that was not the case at all but it was one of their only working tactics to keep the peace. However, as time went on, Skye eventually was no longer interested in him and decided on another pony until she got interested in another, leaving Zara the winner (also, her parents were both betting on her to win this game of Who Gets the Pony). The two of them had a very close companionship and she used him for show-jumping until he passed due to declining health of an undiscovered disease.
Toby was never really interested in any equestrian events as he preferred simply riding and being in the company of his horses but did participate in driving, sometimes. He was definitely let off the hook more because he was basically the favorite child (I still feel bad Zara having suffered for it in the books even though she loved her adopted brother). On most occasions, he would be found in the stables grooming or taking care of tack after a ride; it was one of his go-to places when he wanted to avoid people. Another thing is that he loved to spend time in the pasture with his favorite horse, Aster, a Quarter Horse cross, during turnout or in a clearing in the woods. It’s noted that after Toby’s disappearance, Aster exhibited signs of depression and would wait at the gate, calling out for his owner. When Nash got older, his grandfather gifted him the horse as his first.
Now, onto the old man himself. Tobias was an American Cream Draft collector and prominent breeder which helped out the breeder’s association since this horse breed is considered to be very rare. In addition, he was quite fond of the Budweiser Clydesdales and acquired a few retired ones to produce his own bloodline that are also sometimes used in the commercials. He’s also had quite a few racehorses participate in the Kentucky Derby, Breeders' Cup Classic, the Dubai World Cup, Royal Ascot and Grand National, and Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe races. Worldwide, in different types of racing from the regular flat racing to steeplechase, this man was hitting the top from all fronts but he remained most dominant on home turf with horses in the States and Canada ranking highest. The billionaire was truly devoted to the sport and had many experts serving to help him out when he was making choices for the breeds which he wanted to invest in most.
With all this, it leads us to the brothers and how they ended up with some of the horses they own.
Nash:
Texas Dream-A Tennessee Walker mare with an ironic name but everyone calls her Dream. She's a sweetheart but is sassy when she wants to be, however, give her apples and she'll be whinnying after you for days (according to Xander, at least). Her coat is a shiny palomino and she is one of Nash's only fancy horses, serving as his western pleasure horse in alternative to Chili Pepper, his main competing mare.
Chili Pepper-An Appaloosa-Quarter Horse that is his champion rodeo mare and loves the open field, biting at stray calves during roundups. She is a roan leopard color and is easily recognizable as she has a scar running down the length of her girth from an unfortunate run in with a barbed fence when she bucked a little too hard.
Bullet-Very on the nose with his name, this Appendix Quarter is a fast one. A retired racer that participated in the All American Futurity, coming in a close second but winning the Rainbow Futurity and Champion of Champions Stakes. Tobias Hawthorne had partial ownership of his sire and bred his own star mare with him to produce Bullet. He is Nash's secondary choice for roundups and other rodeo-related events, however, they get along best when Nash is looking for a burst of speed or in a race against his brother, Need-For-Speed Jameson. This gelding is certainly living his life a quarter mile at a time as he whizzes past, a chestnut blur by the time you see him.
Buttercup-She is a Belgian-Shire cross that Nash rescued and although an elderly sterile mare, she is a very sweet gentle giant. He has her retired to the pasture but likes to follow Nash around when he is going in to catch a horse and Grayson too because she knows he carries snacks. She has a limp but is still in fairly good shape with a lovely light bay coat and white feathering.
Grayson:
Mirtha-An imported Marwari filly that was part of a successful twin birthing by a sought-after broodmare, a rarity in the horse world given they are usually fatal for the mare. She and her twin were purchased and shipped to the US by Tobias for Grayson and Jameson. She is an intended dressage horse that's still in her early days but Gray loves taking her out for a happy gallop around the paddock. She has a strawberry roan sabino coat but unfortunately for her she loves a roll in the dust or mud (actually, make that great for her, unfortunate for Gray).
Onyx-His Arabian stallion that is black all over and is one of the most reputable Arabians used in Western competitions in Texas. The greatest joy this stallion gets is rounding up calves in the ring and he is a great partner to Nash's mare, Chili Pepper, which is why Nash does prefer his younger brother to come out on the most major roundups even though Gray is not much for it. Onyx has produced some great foals through Chili and Gray's Shagya Arabian mare, Moonlight, which in their own right often make great playmates with each other.
Sadie-She is an American Saddlebred and his favorite horse both for riding and dressage competitions. Gray's had her since he was seven and got her as a birthday present. He was very attached to her when he was a kid especially since she's very gentle and sweet. She is a palomino pinto and foaled recently a little palomino colt who is the most rambunctious of the recent brood.
Dulce-A KWPN (Dutch Warmblood) filly that has potential to become a Grand Prix horse in dressage but Gray is also training her in harness riding. However, given recent complications in the sports he loves, he is taking a pause and trying to reevaluate some of the strategies he sees his trainers use because they aren't all the most ethical for the horses. If there's one thing to be said about Grayson Hawthorne, it's that he takes care of who or what he loves fiercely and that includes his horses especially those he uses for comps. She is a spicy thing and though she can given Gray a hard time, she loves him and is buttered up easily when he sneaks her a carrot before or after training sessions. Ironically enough, she is not a chestnut, despite their reputation but rather a beautiful dark bay that prances around like she owns the place but Gray just lets her think that.
Jameson:
Eeyore-He's an American Cream Draft mule as a result of an accidental pairing of a jenny with an American Cream stallion that was on loan to one of his grandfather's friends for breeding purposes. As can be seen, that went south and the owner of the donkey didn't want her foal so Tobias took it in and had him for ten years before Jameson got attached to him as a child. He's very gentle and though now an elderly mule, he still keeps up just fine on trail rides. He is the iconic cremello type coat of the American Cream but certainly more fuzzy because of his donkey genes.
Rhubarb-A Nokota stallion that is his barrel racer and preferred riding horse. He is a beautiful blue roan with what look like dark speckles. Tobias had selected him for his grandson after he started training for barrel racing comps and the duo had been inseparable ever since they started. He has taken a liking to Avery and always looks for sugar cubes from her when she and Jamie come to the stables for riding.
Soprano-She is the other half of the Marwari twins and unlike her twin, she isn't one for dirt but she sure as heck ain't a stickler for beauty-no, she loves rolling in the grass instead. So if you see a horse with green stains, that's definitely her which is how you can tell her apart from her sister. She's just the way Jameson likes her, a feisty firecracker with a heart of gold and a potential star jumper like her sire.
Corduroy-He is a Knabstrupper gelding with a bay leopard coat and also a former harness horse, now repurposed for show jumping. A lovely quiet horse, an unusual contrast to Jameson's usual likings in terms of dispositions but they get along well. He was also imported from Europe after his grandfather saw his potential and is the most recent addition to Jameson's collection.
Xander:
Meesha-A rescued zorse yearling that’s part Nokota-American Paint due to her dam’s heritage. Despite her zebra stripes, she does have patches of blue roan and white like her mother unlike the typical bayish striped coats of zorses. Though she is too young for riding of any sorts, she is pretty well behaved on trail rides when Xander rides on her mother. She is Xan's favorite of the bunch and he is her person, often galloping for the gate when she sees him or whinnying after him when he leaves.
Magpie-The Nokota-American Paint mare that's Meesha's mother and only really trusts her owner other than maybe Nash. She is very protective of her filly. She has a beautiful blue roan coat, similar to that of Rhubarb but she is distinguishable due to white flecks across her underbelly and legs. Xander loves to take her out on rides and play tag.
Darlo-An American Sugarbush Harlequin Draft colt that is the first of the Hawthorne contributions to the breed. Before his death, Tobias Hawthorne took an interest in the breed after his youngest grandson was doing research on lost histories of American breeds and he bought a few mares to start up another breeding project. Given his success with American Creams, he decided to try this draft breed, too, and Xander got involved, taking over after his passing. Darlo is a spunky lad and with his black blanket coat, he is a stunner when he trots past. Xan hopes for him to be a stud at some point but in the mean time, he is simply growing up under the watchful eye of his dam.
Foopsy-The adorable little Falabella mare that Xander owns and is only one of many from his minis' herd. He absolutely adores her and is his longest-lasting from an abandoned ranch since the others from her original herd unfortunately passed due to neglect and other health-related problems. She proved to be a sturdy and hardy girl, pushing through her own issues as she was nursed back to health and gave Xander a want to help Nash with rescues he brought back. They have grand games of chase around the property but their favorite activity is naps under a tree in the summer (it makes for some of the cutest photos in Grayson's photo albums). She is a light grey leopard coated horse but certainly Xander's loudest mini.
Also, I want to dedicate this headcanon in honor of my friend @hathorneheiress who has been a big help to me in times when I was losing hope on some of my longest standing drafts that I wanted to get out for you guys to enjoy. She is a great inspiration to me, a wonderful writer, and the most lovely enthusiast of a fanfic bestie I could ask for. Please check out her stuff, she has given great alternative fiction to our faves in this fandom and she deserves some more recognition. Thank you all as always! Bye.

Kate being married for twelve years now and yet she is still known by her dresses and looks instead of her work clearly shows her work ethic and her perception by people and media.
Also, it's getting to be July - August, which are the months when her work ethic typically falls off a cliff. I get bored because we're not going to get anything exciting outside of Ascot, Trooping, Wimbledon, and all these social events. Hopefully, Meghan does something to distract me, but she's been hiding for so long that I doubt it.
Kate is just lazy, I've been saying that for a long while. I get it if she wants to take a month off, but she also took most of April off and doesn't even complete two weeks of public work most months. I know "working royal" is sort of an oxymoron, but I think it does have an impact on her image for the reasons you've stated. Same for William but I can't be bothered to care about his work.

Sugar Apple Fairy Tale AU that has no proper name yet but Anne is raised by Kat & Hugh in a comedic co-custody arrangement part 2 (part one here)
Shenanigans that occur before Anne is 15, plus whatever random shit my brain's rattling off
Kat & Benjamin having matching ascot things when Benjamin just starts wearing his wing around
Between Kat and Hugh, the most responsible parent for Anne is Salim. This small child was not part of his contract when he started working for Hugh but by god is he letting two idiots raise this poor girl alone
When Hugh becomes the Silver Sugar Viscount, the King and Queen meet Anne when Hugh had to bring her along once. They adore her, but the fairies serving them love her even more. Alas, Anne's encounters with them are incredibly far and few
Lady Christina lives in this AU since Anne has been making confections for her when Hugh could no longer
Hugh or Kat make the "terrible" decision of taking Anne with them to the Paige workshop
Anne & Bridget pack bond immediately like two lost birds in the middle of winter
Bridget and her dad have A Talk about thing, and suffice it to say Bridget's future is still tough but brighter
Bridget & Anne have a Sister Dynamic because Women Supporting Women goddammit, and by their many similarities
Anne grows up studying her mom's notes, but also the styles of the many fellow artisans she gets to watch growing up
She hits a brief slump of not finding her own style, but on a rare breezy summer's day, she gets to witness Lady Christina fly and that's when it clicks
Now onto her Dads™, smart and capable men, yes, but by god are they not at all prepared to father a small child. Benjamin and Salim are the main reasons Anne didn't die
But that doesn't mean they were bad dads, just not prepared at first, once they get the hang of it, its a mix of who's the mother hen at any moment
Anne loves her dads very dearly, she mostly calls them by their first names but when she does call them dad, they're dying inside because they love their daughter so very very much
Lady Christina & Sir William always plan their monthly visit to Lewiston around an event happening within the city or area at the time, so generally they're there during the festival for the royal medal
Naturally, the Mercury Workshop knows of Anne, but given who her dads are and the fact that even after several classes with both the Viscount and Alph Hingley, they can't catch up to Anne's early nurtured talent, so most accept her as their own, a collective little sister/cousin in a sense
The Radcliffe Workshop knows of her, and generally despises her because Master Marcus doesn't like nepotism unless it favors him and his favorite students (even then, Anne's situation isn't nepotism, he's just bias and cannot fathom why a girl would be considered talented in a craft that is etched into her bones)
Jonas is the technical heir to the workshop, but by Master Marcus' favoritism, if he could he would make Sammy the heir and Jonas knows this but that won't stop him from doing whatever he can to become the Master of the workshop and become the next Viscount
Keith & Anne are childhood friends, though they don't get to hang out as long as they'd like as they get older and Keith joins the Radcliffe Workshop
