Do zara skye and toby head cannons
this is such an interesting idea!!
~ first of all, i think that they would all be kinda close in their younger years
~ toby was always kinda protective of zara when they were teenagers. like he would be the kind of brother to kinda have to hunt down every guy she liked and beat up anyone who messed with her, even if he was younger and lowkey not very intimidating
~ one of the only things that toby and skye had in common was their taste in food
~ toby was always being told that he didn't look a lot like his sisters when he was little but he was always determined that he did (we all know why he didn't)
~ when they were like 7-10 they did the most intense candy trading during halloween
~ they made a lot of pinky promises over really stupid stuff and the words, "don't tell dad" were spoken a lot
~ zara always called shotgun in the fancy car on the way to school and her reasoning was because she was the oldest
~ they made up a secret language that only they could understand
~ even though they were closer in their childhood, as soon as toby started to be a moody hawthorne teenager they started drifting apart and zara was kinda sad
~ zara and skye basically shared the same clothes because even though they could afford to get their own, they were too lazy to go out and get other ones so they could each have their own
~ they were forced to wear matching clothes for family photos and parties and other stuff
~ also when they were smaller, when zara and skye had arguments, they always tried to get toby on their different sides and he was always super confused and in reality had no idea what was going on
~ they had a little book club, they liked to read the same books at the same time so that they could discuss them afterwards
~ there were definitely intense floor is lava games at hawthorne house (and i feel like this would also happen with the brothers in the future)
~ not only the floor is lava, but they would curate different games for each other like escape rooms and treasure hunts and stuff like that
~ zara now actually wants to get to know toby again now that they know that he's not dead or whatever
i got a sudden wave of creativity

Can we talk about the fact that most of the atrocities committed against Avery were not by the Hawthorne brothers but by those apparently close to the family or in the family themselves? Like, yes, the boys did trick her here and there but they were harmless compared to what Thea, Rebecca, and Skye did. And I’m only talking about those that are alive or close to the family (so not Emily, Tobias Hawthorne, Sheffield Grayson, Vincent Blake, or Eve).
Quite frankly, I don't care that many of you still like Thea (no, she's not a girl boss in my eyes nor will she ever be) and Rebecca. The fact that Avery is still friends with them in a way is even more despicable. It's basically a toxic friendship if anything and I doubt she would do anything to them but they clearly believe her to be expendable. Actually, the best comparison to this is Avery going with Jameson to confront Skye in person with no security after the murder attempt via Drake.
Thea sabotaged Avery to make her look like her dead best friend to get at her current boyfriend and his brother but only ended up triggering Gray instead (this boy has PTSD and depression, can't convince me otherwise). Then, she literally lured her and basically helped to get her kidnapped by Sheffield Grayson which could have easily contributed to her second potential murder if Toby and Oren didn't get there in time.
Rebecca may be in a better place compared to Thea but she still kept a very key piece of information hidden until the very last possible second. She could have said something that day when she came back to the cottage where Avery was recovering and quite clearly, the alarm bells going off in Avery's mind were right that something was off with her. Even though she at least asked for forgiveness, Avery had a right to be mad at her but the fact that Thea expected her to just shrug it off and carry on as if nothing happened was purely ridiculous. (Oh so quirky Thea, yAy! 🙄)
Last but not least, Skye. She was responsible for Avery's first murder attempt and thankfully it failed but that really could have been a deadly blow. What's worse is I feel like she didn't even care that Jameson was there. Her own son, her flesh and blood. Maybe Drake had pretty good shooting skills but if he had misdirected accidentally, we easily could have seen a shot and bleeding Jamie, too. It goes to show how this woman could easily be interpreted as a sociopath (look up the symptoms; she matches some of those pretty well) especially since I think empathy is not a word in her dictionary.
There you go. Anyways, have a good day. I know I just soured mine with this post.

Ngl,,,,, I have a love-hate relationship with Tobias (Tattersall) and Skye Hawthorne
Like it's not even funny how much I absolutely adore and DESPISE them 😭
With Skye, it's mostly hate because she's the reason the boys have such unresolved Mommy Issues 💀 At the very least, I'm happy Grayson can find a much healthier mother figure in Acacia it's one of the reasons I'm so excited for The Grandest Game because I wanna see their relationship develop!
But at the same time this woman is fascinating in terms of characterization. I kinda wished JLB did more with Skye, but for the most part, I enjoyed Skye's characterization in the OG trilogy because of how consistent her characterization's been. (We can at least give Skye credit for giving the iconic line “Do you know what the difference is between Millions and Billions, Ava? Because at a certain point, it's not about the money” /hj)
With Tobias.... Potentially controversial take, but I LOVE his character sm.
Like yes, what he said to Grayson and Jameson in their respective flashback sequences (yes, including the one with Emily in the treehouse) was messed up. Telling Grayson that it was going to be him, and telling Jameson he was ordinary is very much fucked up for him to say to them. Although, in my opinion, the Jameson thing felt kind of out of nowhere because it wasn't really there in the OG trilogy
However, like with Skye, I am fascinated by the way JLB had characterized him. The fact that he was loyal to Alice, apologized to Zara and Skye in the letter of what was supposed to be their game, and cared about his grandsons enough to make them better men than he'll ever be. Fucked up as the man may be, you can tell he had his moments where he genuinely cared as a person. (I especially liked that he had a soft spot for Xander and Rebecca, because that needs to be discussed more often!!)
I'm honestly hoping JLB stays true to Tobias' character if he ever makes an appearance in TGG via flashbacks or character mentions because what got me so hooked on this serious (other than Grayson) was from how RIDICULOUSLY invested I was in this manipulative, loyal, machiavellian old texan man.

Grayson Hawthorne bath head cannon
So, I had mentioned about a month ago about writing a head cannon on Grayson's love for baths, and here it is!
As we all know, Grayson's form of coping is swimming. We have confirmation from the author herself. But before he got pressured into becoming the best and the water was his safe haven, there was a time Grayson enjoyed being in the water, but not as a coping mechanism.
As a child, he was the one who would take the longest baths. And since they lived in a mansion, there were plenty of tubs for everyone and he didn't have to worry about others waiting for him to be done. He had the whole tub to himself.
While his brothers were having pillow fights and rough housing before bed, little Grayson was happily enjoying the nice hot tub. And he also had to have bubbles. Because a bath isn't complete without bubbles.
Grayson would never admit it, but he got his love for baths from his mom, Skye. Both love the feeling of relation it brings. A time for luxury that Grayson doesn't usually allow himself.
The water is his happy place, it has always been like that. It's where he feels the most alive. The most free. When he's in the water, it's like all his troubles are no longer there. He forgets everything, just the rhythm of his strokes as he paddles the water effortlessly.
The water submerses him, pulling him down under into the aqua of happiness.
Of course, anything Grayson seemed to enjoy, his grandfather seemed to think that it wasn't okay for Heir Apparent to enjoy things. He pushed Grayson to compete in swimming competitions because that was what was expected of him. It no longer became a love but a requirement. Something Grayson was expected to do.
What was once a pleasure was now something Grayson heavily relied on. The water was still something he enjoyed, even if it was more of a coping mechanism these days.
But sometimes, when the mood hits him, Grayson finds himself filling up the claw foot tub in his luxurious bathroom. As he sinks into the bubbly goodness he sighs in content.
It was good to sometimes allow yourself a treat. Right?

its always "xander is the most underrated hawthorne" or "nash is the most underrated hawthorne" WHAT ABT THE ORIGINALS?? it feels like nobody cares abt them omg 😪🙏
zara was legit main character vibes like, oldest sister bookish girl who thrives for success and validation like... zara was the og grayson hawthorne yall 💀 (not that anybody could beat grayson, i luv the guy too much)
and skye? ik we might not like skye as much but,, she was part of the hawthornes too, and as much as we know, that probl had some difficulties. i bet skye was the kind of child who liked to cause problems to get attention bcs she felt neglected—and tbh, thats completely valid as a young girl.
toby ohhh toby. the guy had his issues. ik he perhaps shouldn't be in this list but, he grew up hawthorne so. the guy probl looked up to zara n skye so badly, n he def felt bad bcs tobias pushed the girls aside.
all im saying is that if we're talking abt underrated, the og hawthorne siblings are that exactly. they legit deserved sm better, and fight me but the girls had some valid ass reasons to do what they did (well.... skye kinda needed a slap but uh) especially zara like,,, she worked her ass off, then suddenly it was her nephew who was expected to get the fortune, then suddenly it was a random girl? i would've been frustrated af.
what r ur thoughts??

listen, even though they still have some of their mum’s feature, we know that the boys ended up looking and acting more like their fathers. but then that means the hawthornes have some weak ass genes lmaoo 💀💀
imagine having 4 kids and they still ended up being similar to a father they never knew

i'm going to be fr, in the first few chapters (when i first read the books) i didn't really like grayson. he just seemed like a stuck up ass who thought he was better than everyone else like "for now, it's best if you just assume i know everything" like ok buddy.
same thing sort of goes for jamie i didn't like that he kept treating avery like she was nothing of importance, but then he'd make up for it by saying smth flirty or smth which made me love him again.. (flirty men are my type)
i liked xander and nash immediately though and never stopped.
avery has always slayed. i don't trust people who don't like her. she is so underrated in her own series and she literally solos all of the brothers. she's a girl boss, how can you not stan her. how can she not be your fav character.
max is such a great friend. she acts all carefree and all, but she really cares. she's always been there for avery. my only complaint is her swearing, but even that isn't really a problem.
rebecca's a little complicated i sympathize with her and have forgiven her for all of her wrongdoings (not telling avery drake was gonna try to kill her) because she's just one of emily’s victims (and imo the most hurt and affected. this isn’t even an opinion it’s just facts).
alisa is a girl boss. she fucking slays. everything about her is just >>>.
i don't really like thea. she may have done some good things, but whenever i think about her, i think about how petty she was in the first book and how she took it out on avery. i do love how much she loves rebecca though. i hate her for letting avery get kidnapped, like, miss girl, what happened to being a girls girl.
oren>> (that's all i have to say and i shouldn't have to say more)
zara is my little underrated pookie. i kinda relate to her honestly.
skye can go f herself
MIND YOU I LOVE JAMIE AND GRAY (ESPECIALLY JAMIE HE'S MY POOKIE). MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF GRAY WAS JUST A LITTLE IFFY AND JAMIE WAS SOMETIMES A LITTLE QUESTIONABLE BUT THEY'RE MY POOKIES AND I LOVE THEM AND I'D DIE FOR THEM (I'D LET JAMIE DO WHATEVER HE WANTS TO ME, AVERY CAN JOIN TOO)

If Ian Johnstone-Jameson is in fact Jamie’s father, which, I’m quite sure there’s no need speculating given the man’s last name (Johnstone-JAMESON; I mean, come on-as if that wasn’t glaringly obvious) and Skye was married to him, could you imagine how long this poor boy’s name would be? All I can say is that this is a mouthful I would dread seeing in legal print if it weren’t also for the fact that his first name is the same as one of his last names; Jameson Winchester Hawthorne Johnstone-Jameson. If I were Jamie, I’d down a shot, too, every time I heard my full name being yelled down the hall. Of course, of all the Hawthorne grandsons, his dad had to be the one with the spontaneous double last name; it’s such a Jameson Winchester Hawthorne problem because it just damn well has to be.

Forgotten pictures of the past
The patter of running feet could be heard throughout the massive halls of Hawthorne House, as the grand walls echoed in childish laughter.
Two young boys at the age of six and five running after each other at full speed. The younger lad was ahead of the older. Mischievous green eyes sparkled as fairly flew down the halls. Dark brown hair falling into his lightly tanned face.
"You're never going to catch me!" He squealed in excitement.
"Don't be so sure." The older lad was running almost as fast as his younger brother. Steely grayish blue eyes gave him a determination like no other. Light, wavy blond hair also was flying into his perfectly chiseled face.
Both ran on and on. Whenever the older lad seem to catch up with his brother, the other seem to get burst of speed. Making the game of tag go on longer then usual.
It wasn't until they were in one of the smaller rooms, but by no means less elegant, that the younger lad, Jameson, looked behind him to see how far his older brother, Grayson, was. Unfortunately, it caused him to trip.
If it was any old game of tag, Grayson would have tapped Jameson. But it wasn't just any old game where the Hawthornes were concerned. And Grayson couldn't just tap Jameson. No. It involved jumping on top of him and tackling him. For a moment they rolled around the ground, grappling for control.
Grayson won.
With Grayson on top, they had a silent staring contest. Mentally daring the other to look away. Grayson lost this time.
As ever the Gentleman, Grayson reached down and helped his brother up.
"You can't tag me again." He insisted. "You know the rules. You can only tag the same person two times before finding someone else. I've been tagged twice. And by you!" Grayson explained. "Go find Xander or Nash."
"Well, I don't know where they are." Jameson whined.
"Not my problem." Grayson insisted. "You can't tag me again."
"Fine." Jameson huffed. "I'm sure Xander is in the kitchen. That should be easy."
Grayson watched as Jameson ran out in full speed. Maybe he should hide? He thought. So my brothers don't find me.
As he was contemplating this thought, he happened to glance out the window, overlooking the well kept garden.
Sitting in a white basket chair and dressed in a flowery summer dress was his mother, Skye. He didn't know why, but he could feel the breath in his throat catch. There was something about her. She looked so beautiful. So pretty.
As he was silently admiring his mother's beauty, he noticed she was posing for a painter. No wonder she dressed her best. Not that she didn't, mind you.
It was then that he realized he wanted to capture it to. For himself.
Quickly running to another room, he knew what he needed: a pencil and paper.
It didn't take long for him to find what he was looking for. Quickly he jumped back into the chair. Leaning over the desk, his eyes scanned over his mother's figure.
He was no professional drawer by any means, but he was very talented and he was a Hawthorne. And a Hawthorne was expected to extraordinary, even at the tender age of six.
Taking the pencil in his hand he began to slowly and methodically draw the outline. He barely knew he was doing but didn't care. It was oddly relaxing.
The sun was beginning to set by the time Skye was done. Unfortunately, Grayson wasn't. But it was ok, because he had most of outline down. You could tell it was Skye.
A sense of pride came over him. Had he really just done that? It looked so real and life-like. The plain paper was becoming a masterpiece.
He was carefully adding the waves to the hair when Jameson came running up beside him. "Gray," he said breathlessly, "it's dinner time."
"I'll be just minute."
"We need to be there now. The old man said to get your butt down here." Then Jameson noticed what his brother was doing. "That's nice." he said softly. Before Grayson could register his brother's uncharacteristic niceties, Jameson was gone in a flash.
Sighing, he purposely set his pencil down and quickly made his to the massive dining room. Everyone was already seated.
Trying to fade in, Grayson solemnly took his seat. He knew he was late, and he knew the old man knew he was late. And Grayson wasn't allowed to be late.
No one said anything, but he knew from the brief look his grandfather gave him they would talk later. There was surely going to be a consequence for his tardiness.
The old man finished first. Grayson could feel the old man's eyes on him as he rose from the table.
"Grayson." he said, his voice neither harsh or gentle.
Grayson met his grandfather's eyes. "Yes sir?"
"When you are done meet me in the small sitting room int he west wing. You know what I am talking about."
Grayson knew exactly what he meant. "Yes sir." he acknowledged.
Any appetite he had instantly disappeared. Five minutes he discretely excused himself. With a knot in his stomach, he made his way up to the room, taking the secret passageway. Cracking open the swinging bookcase he saw his grandfather standing near a burning fireplace. He watched in silent horror as he saw the old man throw a piece of paper in the fire. No doubt the picture he had drawn and sketched by his own hands.
A part of Grayson wanted to run away, going to go sob into his bed. But he didn't. Even at six, he was raised to be the best, emotionless being his grandfather wished.
Confidently, like he hadn't seen what had just happened, he pushed opened the secret door. "You wished to see me."
The old man turned. "I did. Come here." Grayson silently obeyed.  "You know why I called you up here, right?"
Grayson nodded.
"Why?"
"Because I was late." He looked down.
Tobias took his grandson's chin in his hand, lifting it up till Grayson's eyes met his. "I don't ever want that to happen again. Is that clear?"
"Yes sir."
Tobias's eyes watched the burning fire before them. "Remember son, just like this fire, the choices you make can either reward you with warmth or destroy you completely. It's up to you which one you will choose."
Without saying another word, Tobias walked away, leaving Grayson alone. For almost 5 minutes he didn't even move. He had failed, again. He was supposed to be the best, but he let his own desires get the better of him.
Present day:
Avery stared at the huge desk before her. Tobias had been larger then life, and so was his desk. Avery was sure she had searched every inch of it. Looking for clues to be discovered. But there was one draw she seemed to have overlooked.
She didn't realize there was a secret draw, though she shouldn't have been surprised. She was searching for some paper Alisa, her lawyer, said she had. Even though didn't remember having it.
He sharp brain noticed the draw wasn't as big as it looked. That when it dawned on her there was another secret draw underneath it. It didn't take long to unmask it.
Peering in, she saw more things that got to see what a man Tobias Hawthorne man was. Old pipes, an empty whisky cup, papers with riddles scrawled on. She was getting ready to look over them when something tucked at the back caught her eye.
A simple framed picture frame. Turning it over, Avery gasped. Inside was a drawn picture of a woman. The artist captured the waves of the woman's hair. The round face, long eyelashes, half smile half smirk on the face. It was beautiful.
And the woman was no other than Skye Hawthorne.
Just then Jameson Hawthorne walked in. "Heiress, Alsia is bugging me to come see if you found the paper." He smirked as he snuggled up to her. "What's you got?"
She handed him the frame. "That's Skye."
"It is. Where did you find it?"
Avery showed him.
"Hmm." Jameson looked at it better. "It looks familiar, but I'm not sure how."
Avery shrugged.
"Wait!" Jameson said, "I think remember. But it can't be."
"What?"
"It was so long ago but I remember there was this one time Skye was getting her picture painted outside. And Grayson was drawing her from a room upstairs. I never saw it after and I assumed Gray hid it away. Not the old man."
"Well. there is one way to solve this." Avery got up.
They found Grayson sitting in his office. Papers, pens, and an empty coffee cup beside him. He ached his eyebrow but said nothing as they walked in.
"Avery found something and we want to show you." Jameson got straight to the point.
Avery handed Grayson the frame. "Do you remember that?"
She watched as Grayson took the frame. He hardly ever showed emotion, but she could see the look of surprise on his face. "Where did you find this?" he asked hoarsely.
"A secret compartment in the old man's desk. I guess he was keeping it."
"I thought you kept it." Jameson said.
Grayson shook his head. "The old man destroyed it. Or so I thought."
Avery was outraged.  "Why would he do that?!"
Grayson looked at Jameson instead. "Do you remember how I was late for dinner that one time?"
"Of course I remember. It was the day Skye got her picture painted. She was throwing a fit the whole day because it wasn't going as she wanted it to."
Grayson nodded and swallowed. "Well, the old man made sure I was never late again for dinner. I thought he burnt it."
"But he didn't." Avery said. "Which means whatever happened with you being late, he still admired what you drew. And so should you." She then noticed a screw sticking out from the wall.
She hung the frame up. "There," she declared "out where everyone can see it. Not hidden anymore. But we should get going, because ironically, dinner is almost ready and Alisa will have our hides if don't get down there."
Smiling, she locked an arm around Jameson and one around Grayson, leaving the room and the forgotten picture of the past.
