A long awaited Viewing (Episode 3)

It took me far too long to be able to watch episod 3, but I have and oh, how I have feelings.

(*SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 3 BELOW*)

Where to begin??? There isn't a thread of story I have seen that I'm not invested in. Nori and the Istar- I mean the Stranger are so interesting to see. I love seeing pre-shire Hobbit customs! The way of the Caravan, the naming and remembering of those fallen behind, which is a practice we can see leading into the extensive record keeping of family relations. Such a clever touch.

Queen Regent Miriel's already distrust towards Valinor, the Elves, and even the Valinor was surprising for me (I thought they would build up to that later) and Ar-Pharazôn was much less conniving (in portrayal) than I had expected. Yet, they each fill those roles quite well.

But Númenor was just gorgeous and perfect and everything I had hoped. The architecture that rivals the elves, the way you see so much in relation to water and Ulmo (I loved that statue of Numenor at the port entrance, so cool). The seedling tree in the courtyard and its symbolism was an incredibly nice touch too.

For me, however, the crown jewel here was the line of Elros. Elendil and Isildur. They were so good! Their connection to the water, "the water is always right" which signals back to Ulmo's singularly Valar guidance. It's the way it's not in your face, the way you see aspects of their culture that reaches back to Elros and that final battle against Morgoth. The way that the sea whispers to Isildur, as if Ulmo or Uinen was calling to him personally.

Elendil is every bit Gil-galad's equal in stature, and it will be so lovely to watch them eventually come together. I can't say enough about what I've seen.

Of course I still have questions, where is Elrond? Who is Adar? Perhaps a witchking? Perhaps Sauron himself? I doubt it, but who knows. There's a lot of theories out there that we've already met Sauron and didn't know it yet. I don't love that Idea, but it could work well.

Honestly, I'm just excited. I'll have to watch it again and dig into some of the characters a bit more but for now, I look forward to the discussions.
