#Electrical Distruptions

Assumptions based on your writing: you love having knowledge for the sake of simply having knowledge. Also, you'd probably survive an apocalypse. Or two.
I am eternally grateful to my parents for instilling a love of learning and the joy of new horizons.
A short list of Small Apocalypses I have survived:
Earthquake (7.2 Magnitude! and a couple dozen smaller ones)
Pandemic (and 2 epidemics and a Dangerous Outbreak! As in, "took all preventative measures, still caught that shit, and lived".)
Wildfire (Been evacuated 3 times now!)
Polar Vortex (-40F at Nadir)
Drought/Extreme heat wave (124F at peak)
Tsunami (twice, but tbh that was more "dealing with the power going out for 3 days" than "suddenly ocean")
Major Civil Services Distruption (Not often counted as a disaster but tbh when the electricity and water go out for almost a week in a major city you can't leave? That gets dangerous, fast.)
Volcanic Eruption (The ongoing one at Mauna Kea but that doesn't really count. Getting evacuated from a volcanic campground because of a carbon monoxide release? More serious!)
Landslide (serious one- the road behind me fell into the pacific)
Flash Flood (flood destroyed 75% of a major state highway)
Chemical Emergency (Local Oil Refinery fucking exploded)
Mass Shooting (twice. fuck you america)
Terrorism (Again, twice. Again, fuck you america.)
Water Contamination (three times now. what the fuck)
No actual hurricanes, but Inland Hurricane-Force Winds sure is a fuckin' thing. No wait, did do a Tropical Storm, by their powers combined, does it count as a hurricane?
Thunderstorms and Hail are apparently classified as disasters but that's just July?
FOUR Tornadoes, one of which was a waterspout on the ocean!
And for the things that aren't red-cross worthy but Holy Shit How Did I Suvive: Attacked by large wild animal (moose), Attacked by large domestic animal (3 large dogs, 2 horses and a bull), bitten/stung by venomous animal (twice- bat ray and Sea Nettle Jellyfish!), Multiple Aggravated Assaults, One Attempted Murder (like, specifically ut to kill me, instead of ut to kill anyone in the area), Multiple Major Head Traumas, Living In A Condemned Building, Hit By A Drunk Driver While In A Car, Hit By A Sober Driver While On Foot, Internal Hemorhage, Probable Supernatural Encounter, Gas leak, Building Fire, and Accidentally Inducing Anaphylaxis/Poisoning Myself.
There's really only three major disasters I have NOT lived through, but I feel like naming them would tempt Apollo's Red Rubber Ball Of Prophesy. I will not commit the hubris of saying I like my track record because that'll garuntee my ass gets deep 6'd by the next apocalypse.

someone gave me permission so be prepared for one of the longest posts!!! first story is introduction to both arata and liane, then the numbered stories are mid fun stories explaining more of them, and 3rd is more planned story for where they go if they were actually in game. yeet hehehehehehehe(also making inbetween text blue so can separate stuff easier in head)forgot a part hold on!!! putting now-
:readmore:
got it umm ill do arata and liane!!!! so, for the very start of their stories, arata and his family was finally able to move from inazuma and imigrated to fontaine main city when he was 6. he was very very quiet and mostly just read alone in school. as the strange quiet kid he ended up bullied. another kid in his class was a little girl named liane, loud exited personality and slitted eyes she made an inpact in the class. some tryed to pick on her, some were her friends. rumors around the school about her being a child of the abyss alwase wispered in her ears. she didnt let that bother her tho.
durring one of the weekly swimming lessons, arata was too close to the pool, and a kid thought it would be funny to knock him on a float. but arata was new to fontaine, and still couldnt swim.
no one noticed as he splashed around, and seemingly no one noticed when he lost his ballance and fell in. arata was sure he would die there. alone ostracized and forgotten by his peirs. electro vision manifesting and sealing his fate, because who would jump into a electric pool for him?
liane would, thats who. she noticed him splashing around on the float why would he try to go in if he obviously cant swim? when he slipped off the float, she jumped in. he drifted pretty far so she needed to swim for a bit but she got him. gripping the buzzing vision in her right hand and lifting with her left. trying her hardest to keep the vision from burning him.
when they got to the side of the pool, electro vision pushed to the side, a cryo one manifested next to it. flichering purple light and a paniced lianes crying the things bringing arata back to consciousness. plus a throbbing pain in his chest. lianes pov, getting him out of the water she tryed the compressions shed see others do but when he didnt cough up the water she started panicing. hitting his ribs as hard as she could, wishing the moment could stop. let her catch her breath and the boy to stay alive damn it! a few more hits and a crack neither noticed, he coughed up the water.
after all the crying, hugging, and paniced adults, they were sent to the nurces office. again a bunch of lectures, burnt hand and broken rib later, they still held onto eachother. througout everything they held on. after that day, that didnt change. the two sorta strange kids stuck together like glue. if you wanted one you had to deal with the other, or if you hurt one youd face the wrath of their friend.
little growing up stories time!!!!!!!
1.
back when they were 8, teachers still sat them next to eachother. them and their parents insisted for so long, and they wernt really distruptive to the class so it all worked out fine.... until the incident. one teacher, decided they really needed to *diversify* their friend circles, and put them on oposite sides of the class. joking around, a kid made a mistake. usually liane was the one fighting a lot to protect arata, but this time someone made liane the but of the joke in front of the whole class. needless to say, after that day the school needed to replace a few desks, and that the two raskles sit together<3
2.
over when they were 16, liane got sick. which was strange because she never got sick, the only time she did was after being in a lake for 3 hours in the fall on a dare, so arata was suspicious to say the least. whenever he tryed to ask lianes mom about it tho she would just say "oh dont worry about it, she'll be right as rain soon" and wouldnt let him see her. on the fifth day, he didnt ask. insted he snuck over to her window and used their secret knock before heading in. but she wasnt in there, double strange. last place to check was her bathroom, which wasnt locked for some reason? 3rd sus. hand semi blocking his eyes, he headed in.
she wasnt indecent, but she... didnt look the same. almost unrecognizable. usually sunburnt freckled tan skin replaced with a yellowy pale, brown wavy hair stark white and frizzy. the only true tells were her protective leather gloves and glossy slitted eyes, filled with tears.
arata didnt understand anything that was going on, but as soon as he could he held her tight in an embrace. apologies flowing from lianes mouth shushed with reassurance from arata. there was nothing she had to be sorry for, if he was being honest with himself, he was sorry for not being there sooner.
a polite talk with the mom and some liyue books later, arata fully understood. aparently back in liyue, there was the main shoot off of exorcists, and a little connection on the family tree not tracing back in liyue.(this is very hard to word) other members of the family this generation already showed off yang energy, this was just lianes shoving its head in. she didnt have a particular afinity or complications from her condition that others before had, but it still showed that her yang energy was irregular, and that she would have to get used to her new looks. (story 3 continues this sorta. might change the age to more 16 cause im still fixing stuff in my cannon but i think them 16 or 17 makes more sence)
3.
"im not doing this." "come on liane, we both know you dont wanna go out looking, well," "i look stupid i know. and im not leaving this room til im 50" "liane-" this conversation has been going on for 10 minutes straight. at this point, they were both starting to ajust, but one thing that was forgotten in the sick week was lianes hair.. she was panicing and thinking her life was over!! can you blame a girl? what ever circumstances brought it on, there needed to be something done. arata was holding a hairbrush still pleading with liane to let him do *something* but she wouldnt budge. "....what if i let you change my hair back?" "What!!!! why?" "so that we can both go back looking different. if i walk in there with a horid hair cut- and dont even try me. be both know you cant cut straight for shit- then there will be less people talking about your new uh, style, alright?" "but- but you like your style! didnt you just figure it out last year? and you just figured out how to french braid- ill just, i can deal with it alone. i dont want to let you deal with anything more because of me"
arata, knowing the stubbornness of his wonderful loud brash hurting friend, made the decision for her. grabbing the scissors, he cut some hair in front of his sholder to just frame his face. "liane, we both know we dont 'deal with something alone'. remember back when i couldnt go on that trip because i needed to be tutored in math? and you stayed behind too even though you were looking forward to it all year? or that time i got grouped up with that mean kid? you traded with me just so i wouldnt have to deal with the brunt of his anger. you sticked right there next to me wile i was still just that 'weird mute foreign kid' even when all your friends wanted to go to the pool. so if your gonna have to deal with some ass hats talking about your hair, then im just gonna have to have even worse hair. your not getting rid of me that easy. now come on, please let me take care of you"
arata hadnt noticed when he started crying, nor when liane started. one thing he truely knew tho, was how warm and secure they could keep eachother in an embrace.
-time skip-
"i. regret. everything" "no you dont! remember what you said~ 'your not getting rid of me that easily' which means your stuck with me for life!" different hairstyles[he was right, she couldnt cut straight.], new uniforms, new different paths they were going on to become a judge and scout, and a new *oh so wonderful* hat of leafs liane was slowly stacking on his head. the little nicknames changed, his neck adorned with a ring to seal his family and hers that they would not be alone, and, of cource, all the little jokes and pranks to show affection. but one thing didnt change, he didnt think it ever would. "come oon book worm! im soooooo tired and bored of sitting under this tree- oh i know! what if we went to that new bakery opening up? i heard its got some delicious pasteries and breads and-" he let her ramble off. leafs tumbling from his head and book mark in his book. hand in hand, like alwase talking and walking along.
they defedently would change, they alwase did. they alwase were, but the one thing that didnt. the single thing that stayed was the protection. they didnt need it anymore, the the promises wispered under sleepless night skys were enough to protect. and staying by eachothers side, that would be enough.
after story stuffs beyond this point, so more things and ideas for it they were in game.
thank youuu ack so idea for fontaine story line is you know the water poss in liyue? yeah sorta with that. the acting hydro archon works off of a total judgement. dosent care about the situations to lead to it, and mostly works off of things by the law they hold forth. so like if a starving person stole to eat, that person would be punished because of them taking the food. it dosent matter that the people higher up hold most of the farm lands and polute any that arnt theres making it almost inposible to sustain ones self, that person stole. working in sorta dystopia stuff with it but yee. with traveler side i imagine they go through and learn about all the spearate parts of the nation and end up figuring out their own rebelion effort. sorta mirroring inazuma but wanna make it different. its hard to explain cause really havent planned it out best- but to sum it up its more a revolution twords the higher up of society, which ends up with most of the rebelion labled as criminals. thats where the hydro archon stuff works in. because am salty this region will tecnically have 3 sorta archon could be placed as but more like no archon cause salty about hoyo. archon that killed the past archon that runs the show, the past archons still semi alive body that am making as a character, and one person that somehow counts as archon archon(caude still trying to adhere to genshin one playable archon per region) and gnosis you understnad-
"well how dose this work into character stuffs-" it works in like this! liane is one of the first people that shows you around fontaines main city. she shows of the technology and teaches the traveler how the nation works(plus introducing you to other fontaine characters like arata). you dont interact with her much after wards til your seen as part of a wanted group. somehow then traveler ends up interacting with her again and she hides the traveler a tiny bit. yada yada need to explain more too much extra stuff in background-
to add on, arata is sceptical of hydro archons rule wile liane sticks with it a lot. that comes with some conflict. wile all the rebelion stuff has been happening arata has tryed to talk to liane about it. trying to reason with her. she dosent understand tho so they stay in the city. when shes found out to have helped and hidden the traveler(this is all still veeeeeery blurry but am trying so hard to word right), she gets taken to court right in front of the acting hydro archon. her sentance? hanged. to show what happens to those who dont abide by the law.
with this announcement its called that most everyone come to watch. but when liane drops, different hydro bow dude thats big part of revolution shoots her down wile traveler dose hydro archon fight stuffs. arata is very much have Having A Bad Day TM so far so as soon as liane hits the ground he is holding her- thats where the dijected and sad drawings came from this moment. liane is numb for a lil bit til warmth of arata warms her up and its hugs and arata gives so many scolds and kisses and so much crying happens. they arnt part of the story quest after that exept for mabey end celebration stuffs yes. but happy ending! no sads! sorry this is horidly written i just cant handle angst and am still very planning this in my head
and thats all of it copy and pasted!!!! hope you enjoyed the bit of character lore stuffs ejebduwjdueh love my ocs- <3<3<3<3<3

I did art of this ship earlier today, and now it’s time to make a one-shot.
Enjoy the Doctor and his three, electrical-based boyfriends!
Warning: House and Castor are sharing Arthur’s body with him until the Doctor can get them their own bodies, it’s a lot harder than it seems. Also, out-grid, I’m stealing your little Arthur on wheels thing, because how else am I gonna have him on the TARDIS? Sorry!
On with the fic!
--
“Doctor.” Arthur frowned, peering down at the man as he fiddled about with some wires under the console unit of the TARDIS. “May I have a word with you?”
The Doctor pulled himself up, removing the sonic from between his teeth. “You can have several with me, actually.” He joked, but his smile dropped at the deep frown on the android’s lips. “Oh no, what’s the matter?”
“While... I do not mind playing host for our...” Arthur tried to find a proper word that didn’t express his annoyance, then sighed, “our companions, it is becoming rather irritating and distruptive while I am working to have my body taken over because one of them wants to be rather vocal about their displeasures of the other occupant rather than through digital conversa-”
The Doctor watched as Arthur’s eyes went from the warm, calm hazel they normally were to a glowing green. “Oh look, I told you he was going to tattle on us!” Came the tone and speech patterns of House, who didn’t have to occupy Arthur’s body at all.
He could just be a hologram, simple as that, or continue to be in the TARDIS system, but he wanted a physical body and he was being a brat about it.
The green vanished, replaced with a pale blue. “I never said he wouldn’t. Arthur doesn’t seem to be the sort of keep things quiet.” That was Castor, the Doctor could easily tell from his tone, his hand gestures. He didn’t need the eye colors to tell him anything, but it helped sometimes.
“Guys, guys...” The Doctor stood up, dusting himself off. “What’s the matter this time?”
“Well,” Castor spoke, still in control, “House seems to think that we should split ourselves in control by days, so we each have an equal amount of time.”
“That’s not so bad.”
“Yet, he believes he is allowed the remaining day of the week to be in control, as he has, uhg, ‘been here the longest’. His words, not mine, love.”
The Doctor rolled his eyes. Oh, this sort of situation. “So, you’re fighting over the last day?”
“Of course! I think I deserve the right to have it, I haven’t been around you that long compared to the others!”
“But it is my body.” Said Arthur, returning to control. “And I am the one in proper control. If I need to, I will remove you two and stick you into a computer if it comes down to it.”
“And I’ll just crawl my way back into your body, bar boy!” House snapped.
“Please, you’ll be trapped in an anti-virus program before you even get the chance.” Castor smiled coyly. “I’ll make sure of it.”
“Yeah, but not before I shatter you into a million cubes, shouldn’t be that hard, all things considered.”
“Oh!” Castor gasped, putting a hand to his chest, turning to the Doctor. “See how he treats me? A brute, why is he even here, he’s not even a real program!”
“I am a living program, unlike you, you waste of file space.” House bit back.
There was a loud, tired sigh as Arthur looked at the Doctor. “Any progress on the body situation, Doctor?”
The Time Lord just scratched the back of his neck. “Yeah, I’m... working on it, just hold out a bit longer, okay, Arthur?”
“If you insist.” Arthur said with a tone of someone meant to deal with altercations and annoyances. He was programmed to be a professional, after all, and fighting was known to happen in bars. Still, he was not really programmed to deal with it in own head, and the Doctor felt bad about that, even though Arthur had been kind enough to volunteer.
“While these two are fighting, I’ll prepare some tea for you, Doctor. Gives me something to do while they fight until they get bored.” Arthur nodded, turning, wheeling himself down the ramp and towards the doors leading into the inner halls of the TARDIS.
The Doctor watched him leave before groaning, leaning back against the console, running a hand through his hair. The lights in the TARDIS dimmed and brightened as he felt a sensation in his head from her, a ‘I told you so’ sort of sensation.
“Yeah, yeah, I don’t need you to lecture me about my life choices right now.” He stuck out his tongue. “Just help me with locating somewhere we can get android bodies, alright?”

the weather was ominous as captain america and bucky picked their way through the last vestige of a farm house. a chill raced through the abandoned property. one might call it the chill of the dead. rogers figured it was the calm before the storm. the air pulsed with electricity, filled with the scent of rain. the heavens would OPEN at any minute.
Tumblr media
"there's nothing here, buck," steve said over his shoulder. he picked up a broken picture frame, the faces too distorted to make out. a rat scurried in the distance, distrupting the rubble of the place. "are you sure this is the RIGHT address?" rogers didn't doubt james but he sure as hell doubted the man's contact. @vekovoysoldat gets a stormy weather starter.

Waiting…Waiting…Waiting…Now GO!
The day started like any other Saturday, up too early to go to yoga, par for the course, but then…it stalled, but turned out alright, what more could you want?! We went to hot yoga, it was good, I think, to go back, I hadn’t been in almost two weeks due to busting my ankle, all good now, promise! It was my second class and just a twinge here and there and I modified what I was doing, I was…

Emmet and Elesa in Hisui Part 3
((finally got his out. Doesnt have all the info I've thought up, but theres some dramatic fun in this one))
Part: 1, 2, 3
Getting back on the bandwagon here in the last post we had Emmet and Elesa capturing the nobles not realizing they werent just strong wild pokemon but sacred to the people of hisui. This ended up getting Ingo into hot water resulting in the player character needing to investigate the disappearances in an attempt to clear Ingo’s name. Eventually after a few run ins with Elesa and meeting other folks whove seen the “other ingo” the player character, probably with a witness, finally met and fought(?) Emmet for themselves before he ran off. Ingos name thus cleared, the warden ended up tagging along with the player character to the coronet highlands to find out whats actually going on.
This took awhile to think through but I think by the time the story reaches this point Elesa would have begun to develop more and more doubts about what they’re doing. She still has no idea that the nobles are sacred, but she has suspicions about the person who brought them back in time. The two are polite but very obviously don’t trust one another.
Elesa doesnt like how many vague excuses this person gives about all the questions she has regarding why they can’t just talk to the local people and doesnt fully believe the “cant distrupt the timeline” explanation if only because, if that’s the case, then they’ve already done so by capturing all these ultra powerful pokemon. Hell, an argument could be made about “disrupting the timeline” by taking any pokemon back to the future with them at all!
She tries voicing her concerns to Emmet. But whenever they’re back at basecamp the man (really need to come up with a name for this person. Might just call them ‘villain’ since thats basically their role) always seems to be around so that the two aren’t alone together when they’re not actively “out in the field”. And when theyre “out in the field” she doesn’t really get a chance to talk to Emmet about her concerns because of how focused Emmet is and because of how much the dangerous land of Hisui demands that they remain fully alert at all times.
What this results in is Elesa being in the perfect state of mind to be sympathetic when the Hisuian Electrode shes supposed to catch up in the highlands ends up being way stressed after sensing the disturbances amongst the other nobles. Emmet is not there to help her as they had both split up to try and capture the two targeted pokemon in the highlands (electrode and sneasler) and recently their “employer” (the villain) has been urging them to hurry along with capturing them. Claiming that, for various reasons, they need to hurry up and catch the rest of the nobles.
((Maybe he claims he wants to minimize the amount of time in the past to ‘limit the potential for damage’ tho Elesa is suspicious about that claim))
Emmet, for his part, is eager to get this all finished and done with. They’ve already captured six of the ten total pokemon they were instructed to capture, and Emmet wants to hurry and catch the final four so that their employer will help him find Ingo as soon as possible. Hence he recommends they split up here since Elesa is a master of the electric type and, from what their employer told them, Sneasler is a devil to track and find.
Elesa reluctantly agrees, if only because she just wants all of this to be over and done with as soon as possible so they can go home. However, when she does find Electrode is on the verge of exploding the top of the mountain off because of how stressed it is.
Meanwhile Melli ends up coming across Emmet who he mistakes for Ingo and attacks. Melli not having been present for the clearing of Ingo’s name with the last update he got being about Ingo being under suspicion and locked up in Jubilife Village. So when he sees Emmet walking around, and not having gotten any news about Ingo being innocent or being sent to the highlands for any reason, he concludes he must have escaped and attacks with the goal of apprehending him in order to protect Electrode and Sneasler.
Emmet… wins pretty easily tbh. And he is not afraid to say so. Melli tries to talk back but Emmet is already a good distance away before he can recover from the shock. This leaves him being rather upset.
Which is how the player character and Ingo and co end up finding him after arriving in the highlands.
Melli is furious and goes in on Ingo with a level of vitriol he hasn’t really displayed before. Telling him he won’t let him hurt Lord Electrode and that if he wants to get past him he’ll have to sick his “weird eel thing” on him personally. Adaman manages to calm Melli down enough for them to learn he just had a run in with the person who looks like Ingo. Melli doesn’t really get a full explanation of everything thats going on though as he announces he has to go to the moonview arena to make sure Electrode doesnt explode. (He was in the middle of getting Electrodes favorite foods in an attempt to calm it down.)
Confused Adaman and co chase after Melli to the moonview arena. Ingo is now just as confused as Melli. As they near the arena Melli stops and demands to know why they hadn’t taken Ingo away insisting that he attacked him. Adaman points out that Ingo has been with them the whole way to the coronet highlands and once again tries to get Melli to tell them about the person who looks like Ingo.
Before Melli can really respond tho there’s a big boom heard from the Moonview Arena and Melli takes off.
Once there Melli ends up finding Elesa attempting to soothe the very stressed out Electrode whose on the verge of exploding. Melli has never seen Elesa before and has no idea who she is, and actually tries to get her away from Electrode. However she tells him to sit down and shut up while she works with Electrode. The gang ends up catching up and arriving right as it seems Electrode is about to explode but Elesa successfully calms it down, preventing it from exploding and indirectly saving the coronet highlands from a massive explosion.
((At this point I have a personal rather jokey idea that Melli develops a sorta fanboy-esque crush on Elesa. Its not really love as much as admiration both for her beauty and the way she was able to handle electrode. Feel free to ignore this cause its not important I just thought it would be one of those things thats sweet and kinda funny since Melli is easily one of the goofiest of the wardens and hes the one I see mostly likely to do such a thing.
Lol but thats just me. It can be ignored as its hardly an essential plot point))
Of course the feelings of goodwill don’t last long as Elesa captures Electrode right in front of the gang then and there.
Adaman angrily demands she let Electrode go, but Elesa is just about to ignore him and rush out with Zebstrika…
But then she sees Ingo.
Elesa’s entire projected personality changes in a moment. Outright shouts Ingo’s name and asking if its really him. Going on about how happy she is to see hes alive and how overjoyed Emmet is going to be to see him.
Ingo is crazy overwhelmed by this. This random woman knows him? The one who's been kidnapping all the nobles… knows him?!
Elesa is sensitive enough to pick up that something is wrong and asks Ingo point-blank why he won’t say anything to her.
At which point Ingo admits he doesnt remember her.
This stuns Elesa who asks if he’s serious. When Ingo fails to respond she demands to know if he remembers Nimbasa City. The Subway. His pokemon. Chandelure.
But when Ingo fails to respond to any of it, she finally asks, practically begging him, if he at the very least remembers Emmet.
Finally Ingo responds that he has no idea who that is.
All this is enough to keep Elesa from running away and giving Adaman time to ask her why she captured their noble. Breaking from her shock all Elesa can do in response is ask what he means.
Adaman is a nice guy. He really is. But after all this confusing garbage and having just watched one of his clans precious nobles being captured in a pokeball, basically shouts at Elesa how she can possibly not know what shes been doing to the diamond and pearl clans this whole time. He’s practically about to attack her with his Leafeon.
However thanks to his outburst Elesa is finally given context for what they’re doing, and further explanation by the others present causes her to realize… Ingo is sneaslers warden.
Sneasler.
The pokemon Emmets gone after.
Elesa suddenly shouts that she HAS to stop Emmet, before getting on Zebstrika and rushing past the group. Ingo finally gets over his own shock to realize… only Elesa is present, and all reports said there were two of them. And Lady Sneasler is off on her own.
He takes off to where he knows she’ll be leaving the others behind.
Emmet, meanwhile, has finally managed to hunt the noble pokemon down…

They Are Both Scared
Hey, I finally wrote something more than 1k words! Yeay! I hope you enjoy it!
Tagging: @slaintetowhump @ashintheairlikesnow @liliability @ohmywhump @whumptywhumpdump @raigash @castielamigos-whump-side-blog @simplygrimly @whump-it @oceanthesarcasamfox @inky-whump @whumppsychology @inaridriscoll @rivertamandspike @spookyboywhump @faewhump
CW: pet whump, dehumanization, slavery, human trafficking, the BBU(box boy universe) general warnings, shock collars, electrocution, vaguely implied noncon(seriously, it's very hidden I doubt y'all can pick it up), implied whipping and caning, implied being forced inside cold water(hypothermia), starvation
Master had told Bastet about his new catsitter, two days before he actually brought him home. And Master had warned him, right there and then, that if anything like last time happens, he won't be so kind anymore. Bastet had shivered at that, the pain of the whip marks on his back worsening as if Master's threat brought them back to life. And he let out a sound from the back of his throat that resembled a cat's meow. Just how he'd been trained.
And now, two days later, he was kneeling on the rug in front of the front door, waiting for his Master to come back with this new guy. Again, just how he'd been trained. Position two, knees neatly folded, hands placed carefully on the thighs, shoulders back, head straight and eyes down.
When he heard Master open the door and come inside, he did not move, nor look up. He did not bring his eyes up to see the face of his new keeper. Not even when he started speaking, and asked Master where 'the cat' was. Not until Master walked up to him and put a hand on his head. That's when he pushed his head back into Master's touch, and his eyes landed on the man standing a couple of step away, in front of the door. The man - Javier, as he later learned - was wearing a dark red sweater over a white botton up. Like the one Master liked him to wear when they had guests. His brown eyes were behind a pair of rectangular glasses, and his dark brown hair was pushed out of his face. Nothing about him seemed intimidating. In fact, he looked even nerdy. But again, Michael - the previous catsitter - did not seem intimidating either, at first.
He watched as Master explained some things to Javier. Watched as different emotions passed through his eyes. At first confusion. Then something like disgust. And, finally, anger. Although it was subtle, and he doubt his Master even picked it up, but it was still there. Passing through Javier's eyes and lightening them like some kind of fire. And it terrified Bastet. Because anger, as far as Bastet was concerned, never meant anything good. It didn't matter if Master was angry at him, or at someone in work, or anything else. It always ended up with Bastet being in pain and crying.
He was so deep in these thoughts, that he did not understand Master and Javier leaving to other parts of the house. And only realized it when the sound of Master's suitcase being dragged through the hallway reached his ears. And Master came towards him, leaned down, and whispered in his ear. "Be careful what I've warned you, pretty one. Don't let anything like last time happens, hm?"
Master's hot breath against his ear, and the threat in his voice, made him shiver. And he meowed his whimper-like meow to show Master that he'd understood. After that, Master let out a satisfied sound, petted his hair, and stood up to leave.
"Take good care of him." Master called out as he got out of the house and closed the door behind him.
And just like that, Bastet was left alone with his keeper. Again. And it was terrifying. He remembered what happened on his first day alone with Michael. And it sent shivers down his spine.
"So, Bastet, is it true what they say? About box boys?" He had asked, and Bastet had only stared at him. Not allowed to talk. "That you will do whatever you are told?" He had come closer and closer to Bastet, and he noticed the remote control to his shock collar when it was too late, as the electricity ran through his muscles. "Oh, this was fun!" Michael had said with a grin on his face. "Well, I guess we'll find out about those rumors."
Bastet looked up to find the new keeper. To beg him somehow - nonverbal as he was right now, with his collar on - to not hurt him. But the man was nowhere to be seen. Panic washed over him as he realized he didn't know this man at all, and could not predict when, where, and how he would strike. He didn't know the games he might play.
Just as he was drowing in these thoughts, the sound of running water came from the bathroom's direction, and Bastet paled.
Not an ice bath. Please. Please not an ice bath. Please. It's already cold in the house. Please don't make me be colder. He thought as his body unconciously moved towards the fireplace. To treasure some last strands of warmth before he was left freezing for the night.
So, he curled up against the couch near the fireplace, and prayed to whatever gods might be there to keep him safe, now that his Master was gone.
But the sound of water finishes soon after he settles beside the couch. So soon. Too soon to have been the sound of the bathtub filling up. And this time Bastet frowns. What else could Javier be planning?
The door to the bathroom creaked open and Bastet heard Javier's footsteps as he moved from the bathroom towards the kitchen. But Bastet did not try assuming what would happen anymore, and decided to just calm his nerves while he can. It wasn't like he could do anything to stop it. So instead, he just focused on the warmth coming from the fireplace, and imagined that his Master was home, and that he was petting him as he curled up against his feet. Michael barely ever petted him. And when he did, it was usually after he-
Footsteps came out of the kitchen and distrupted Bastet's thoughts. And with the footsteps came a strong spicy smell of food. Bastet's stomach growled. He hadn't eaten anything since morning. And even that had been only a mouthful of bacons and a bowl of milk, and nothing more. He was starving. But he did not dare raise his eyes from behind his knees. Not yet. Not until he heard Javier say that he had made the food for him.
"I'm gonna leave it here on the TV table, ok? Come pick it up whenever you felt like it." Javier said, as he slowly put the plate down on the table, and turned to go back to the kitchen.
The food on the table was warm and still steaming a bit. The smell was spicy and familiar and intoxicating to his empty stomach. He was just about lunging for the food when the reality hit him. It was not in his cat bowl. It was in one of Master's many expensive porcelain dishes, with his even more expensive silverware on the top. It wasn't like he wasn't allowed to eat from Master's dishes. If anything Master liked to have Bastet lick them clean after some meals. But now, without his Master here, and with no permission from neither him now Javier, he definately was not supposed to eat from that.
It might have been a test, from Javier. To test him. To see if he got the hints and he was smart enough to not assume he was allowed things. Or maybe, Javier would come back and sit on the couch, put the plate on his lap, and give some scraps of food to Bastet while he ate the food himself.
So Bastet waited, for a while. Waited to see if Javier would come back. But soon enough, the sound of spoon and fork hitting the plate came from the kitchen and indicated that Javier was eating his own food there. Bastet's stomach growled a second time, and he was trying so hard to not just go to the plate and eat a few bites of the food. Because a few bites would be ok, right? Javier would not understand. Except that he would. They always did. Master once caught him eating a single strawberry from a basket full of them. Bastet was caned 20 times for that.
So instead of sitting there just a few steps away from the cursed plate and fighting the urge to eat, he got up - for he was allowed to walk on his feet unless Master ordered otherwise - and moved towards the stairs, and Master's bedroom above them. For he'd learnt long ago, that sleep helps with hunger. It might not reduce the feeling, but you will not be conscious enough to care.
When he got to Master's bedroom, he went straight towards his bed - cat bed - besides Master's king sized one, and laid down. Curling up to fit inside the not-so-big circular shape of it. But sleep proved to be difficult, and he found himself staring at the far wall of the room, thinking of nothing in particular.
Just as his eyes were starting to warm, and sleep was slowly making its way to him, he heard a voice. Javier's voice. Calling out his name from downstairs. It started as a quiet voice, muffled by the walls between them. And gained volume everytime he called out and Bastet did not answer. Could not answer. Speaking was not allowed unless Master specifically told him to. So he stayed silent as Javier's voice got louder, and closer, as he moved from room to room looking for him. And he curled up tighter on his bed, trying to make himself smaller, invisible, to stay safe from Javier's rage. Because in Bastet's world, only two things caused loud voices. Pain, and fury.
When the door to the bedroom burst open, and Javier rushed inside towards Bastet - while muttering a thank god under his breath - Bastet was practically shaking with silent sobs.
"Bast? Hey, hey are you ok?" Javier asked, and that made Bastet sob even harder, unable to stop. And suddenly, accidentally, one of his many quiet sobs turned audible. The collar was quick to pick it as a non-identified sound - for the only identified ones were cat noises - and sent a strong bolt of electricity through Bastet's small form. And he screamed. Pain filling up his senses, and making his muscles tense, and then go limp as the shock stopped. It took everything in Bastet to not crying out and earn another shock, and he forced his voice down, and let the tears do the job that the voice should have done, and soothe his pain.
Bastet wasn't quite there enough to notice that Javier was panicking beside him, and that he rushed outside, scrambling to get his phone and dial Jenna's number. He did not hear Javier talk to Jenna in impossibly rapid English, trying to figure out what to do with a terrified boxboy that had just endured a strong electric shock. And by the time Jenna managed to calm Javier down enough, and helped him know what to do, Bastet's exhausted mind had fallen into sleep.

@sigeven Merry (slightly late) Christmas!  I’m your secret santa! (Not sure how we ended up getting each other, haha) You requested some Mel and Virgil best-friend fluff, and I hope I was able to deliver! At first, Virgil was absolutely, completely, undoubtedly positive that this was a bad idea. 100 percent sure that Mel coming back to Aperture for frequent visits was only going to end in disaster.
As it turned out, he had been mostly correct.  His main worries stemmed from the idea of GLaDOS finding out. As, just as he had feared, their destruction of AEGIS had almost instant consequences, as GLaDOS was reactivated shortly after.  However, due to a stroke of dumb luck, Mel had showed back up after the facility had nearly blown to bits, and thus missed most of the heat from that particular event. However, Virgil was convinced that one of these days, GLaDOS would notice the slight distruptance in the older test chambers as Mel scaled old elevator shafts to get down to the parts of Aperture that both weren’t being watched like a hawk, and weren’t completely destroyed.  It was a careful sort of balance that often ended up just being somewhere along Virgil’s testing track, as it was marginally easier to keep her hidden that way. Of course, this all meant that he was constantly on edge. At least for the first few visits anyway.  Mel seemed to not have the slightest care, completely confident in her abilities to get in and out of Aperture whenever she wanted. Virgil recognized that she had been an olympian, but he couldn’t help but call some of this behavior reckless and cocky. To fair, he hadn’t exactly kicked her out, and found himself actually enjoying her visits. Once he had gotten over the possibility of being found out, that is. Mel proved to be good company even outside of death defying situations where partnership was a necessity and not an option. She’d walk alongside Virgil’s management rail as he worked, a seemingly never ending fountain of questions at her disposal if there was ever a need for conversation topics. As it turned out, the surface hadn’t provided the answers that Mel, a woman outside her time, had needed. It only gave more questions.  Ravaged by war, and left in tatters, the surface was a wasteland that Mel had mostly given up on.  How could she get answers about the time that passed from the fifties until now if there was no living soul to tell her? Well, Virgil apparently. Even after reaffirming that he was a maintenance core and not the fact core, Mel insisted on asking him whatever he knew about what had happened while she was asleep. At least in Aperture, if not the rest of the world.  How technology had progressed, more about the downfall of Aperture’s scientists, and of course, what happened with GLaDOS and the test subject who beat her. It had taken some coaxing on Mel’s part, but Virgil eventually caved, and shared what it was that he knew, and what he could look into using his wifi and connection to the facility.  He would’ve considered a detailed history on the creation of the modern turrets to be somewhat dull, but Mel listened eagerly, nodding along as she seemed to take in every detail that she could.    Eventually, when the conversation turned back to her, she’d offer to tell Virgil some stories of her own. Having already read her file, Virgil was assured that he already knew all there really was to know about the woman, or at least, her career.  Yet somehow, the human still managed to surprise him with various tales from her life off record. And that was how they ended up on the subject of what Mel called ‘The worst date she had ever been on,’ and how, after telling her anecdote, Mel had turned to Virgil with a grin that foretold a question that he could already tell that he wouldn’t want to answer. “So, did you ever end up getting that core’s serial number?” Virgil nearly fell off his management rail. “I- Uh...no, I’ve been...busy.” His optic flitted around, decidedly focusing on a broken panel in the corner of the room instead of looking at his friend, and hoping that Mel would drop the subject. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Mel’s eyes lit up and she picked up her pace a little to be standing in front of Virgil, so that he was forced to actually look at her. “I could help with that you know. What you need is a wingwoman, and believe me, I’m the best one you could ask for.” Virgil scoffed, rolling his optic. “You just finished telling me about what a horrible date you went on. That doesn’t sound promising.” Mel huffed, clearly insulted. “That was one bad date. Besides, I was- am- an olympian. I had the guys and the girls lining up around the block!” “That sounds statistically unlikely.” “Regardless, my point still stands. I could help set you up with that core. What’s the worst that could happen?” “Would you like me to list off all the possible answers to that question?” “No. Now come on, let’s go find ourselves a rainbow.”
And thus begun the second biggest mistake of Virgil’s life, right behind destroying AEGIS and letting Mel back in to the facility, which were tied for first place.  He wasn’t quite sure how Mel had convinced him, but it definitely had something to do with the winning smile and playfully pleading eyes. It wasn’t a long trip from where they were to where Virgil assumed the Rainbow core would be, but it was just long enough for Mel to give handfuls of dating tips that were near completely useless for a core and not a human.  However, as they finally approached the cranny that Rainbow’s silky voice could be heard coming through, Mel turned to Virgil, giving him the simplest piece of advice he had heard yet. “Just be yourself, don’t be nervous, and dear god don’t try your Cave Johnson impersonation on him, that was horrible.” With that, Mel slipped through the crooked panel, and gestured for Virgil to follow, albeit on a slightly different path, considering he had to follow the management rail, and thus take the long way around. By the time he got back there, he could already see Mel leaning against the wall, talking animatedly with Rainbow, who had paused on his own rail to talk to her.  His metal casing was slightly splattered with bits of multi-colored paint, and his optic seemed eternally lidded- and oh, he was looking this way. Virgil was turned around and halfway out of the room before Mel noticed, and quickly jogging over to grab him by the handle, preventing him from going any further. “And where are you going?” “I’ve had the sudden realization that there’s… a light fixture in the next chamber over that needs my urgent attention. As in, right now.” Virgil, feeling as if there was a rainbow colored optic burning a hole in the back of his casing, spoke quickly, as if trying to get all the words out at once. He didn’t have a tongue, though he was certain that if he did, it would’ve been tied into knots. Mel shot him a look. A look that one might have described as sympathetic, if not for the gleam that still remained in her eye, and the way she put her free hand on her hip. “Come on Virgil, it’s not that bad. He’s perfectly nice, and again, I’m going to be right there helping you along. Besides, I’ve already told him good things about you.” Virgil listened to his friend speak, uncertainty still running through his circuits like an electrical current. However, he found himself starting to shake some of the uneasiness the more Mel talked, and for a moment, was about ready to turn around on his own and get in there. “I… wait, what have you been saying about me?” Mel have a sort of hasty, cheeky grin, swivelling him around on his rail and practically pushing him forward. “That’s not important. Go get ‘em tiger!” “For the last time, I’m a maintenance core, not a-” “I get it Virgil.” By the end of the day- or whatever one could consider a day in a place like Aperture, where no time seemed to pass- Virgil had come to a conclusion. Smuggling Mel into Aperture under GLaDOS’s nose was no longer the biggest mistake of his existence. Letting her give him romantic advice definitely was.
