WoT episode 8 ramble:
Ishamael so dumbfounded to be thwarted he sat there throwing pebbles directly at a shield instead of, like, sucking the air away into a vacuum or collapsing the whole tower
Setting up Lanfear to be an inverse foil to Moiraine: I expect to see Lanfear sacrifice herself for Rand and Moiraine become scarily Forsaken-sequence with her willingness to sacrifice everyone and everything else for Rand, and Lan has to save her
Mat’s level up moments so hilarious
Moghedien most best ever Forsaken
Egwain went over to the dark side, super keen to see the repercussions
The Bornhold - Perrin setup was actually GOOD.

Analyzing Chapters: Wheel of Time
Book 7: A Crown of Swords
As of Chapter 12, 11:34
The book is really continuing to highlight the idea that the Aes Sedai in Rand’s presence really fucked up, and Egwene is seen as more of a puppet to her fellow Sisters despite being raised Amirilyn. So far, we see Rand is extremely tense regarding the random bundle of sisters that have made camp in Caihrienen, the Aiel’s continued distaste and distrust of the sisters, and Egwene having to play multiple sides at once. It also continues to convey the tension that is to come between Egwene and Rand, especially considering Rand is demanding fealty from the Aes Sedai and Egwene is steadfast in that the sisters are loyal to no one but the tower itself. As a result, the book has been hard to put down, and it will be interesting to see it play out.

Anyone notice how the weave that Rand uses on Turak is the same as one Ishy uses against Egwaine? I think this might be some of our first signs of Rand knowing complex weaves/information that he has not acquired himself.
Also it looks a lot like bullets. Like, that sure seems like an age of legends weave to me…..

I can't get over the fact that it was Moonshine's death that made Hardwon start to bargain with Death. not Gunther being possessed, not Red being murdered, not Egwaine being outnumbered, not his mother being lost in a realm of undead again - but Moonshine getting power word killed. now you really fucked up. like WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at a moment where Moonshine is swearing that she has no one, Hardwon's world collapsing when it's suddenly without her. Hardwon needing her. Hardwon turned from warrior to beggar at the sight of her falling, willing to do anything to get her back. what if I went insane.

'Here' (re: the picture with the woman fishing with her bare hands) is Wheel of Time! It's a very long fantasy series by Robert Jordan so there's a lot to read if your're interested, but there's also a very good series if you'd rather have something a bit more concise. Basically the premise is that there's a land where magic exists, but only women can use it safely (i.e. without going insane in the process). An evil entity known as the Dark One is returning, and the only one that can stop him is the latest reincarnation of the greatest magic-user who ever lived: The Dragon Reborn. The story starts with one of these magic-using women, Morraine, searching for the Dragon Reborn and coming across five village friends- Rand, Mat, Perrin, Nynaeve, and Egwain- one of who may be the person she seeks.
woah!! ill be real i cant really read for fun anymore (I'm trying to get it back) but that sounds really cool and ill be sure to check out the show!! i love women <3

Moiraine and Lan
My thoughts after finishing The Great Hunt, post 4 of 4:
*This book was a bit lacking in Moiraine and Lan.  The problem with a huge ensemble cast of characters is that you don’t necessarily get to spend as much time as you would like with each one.
*Speaking of Moiraine and Lan, I feel like I missed something.  They were at the cozy little house with the elder Aes Sedai and their Warder, then the vampire monster almost killed Moiraine which made her realize something and dash off saying something about “getting there in time”, then you don’t hear from them for half the book.  They reappear at the very end, saying that they had been chilling in the conquered city, pretty much doing nothing other than gathering information and unsuccessfully trying to protect 2 sisters.  So now I don’t know if the 2 sisters in question were the ones they had been staying with, with 2 we heard about being captured from Egwaine, so other people entirely.  So I feel like there’s some kind of connecting story thread that I missed.
*I’m pretty sure Moiraine is going to die at some point.  She seems to be taking on an advisor/guide type role for Rand, and guides for the Hero never survive the story, so that the Hero is forced to stand on their own and figure things out for themselves.  Also, she has laid out her plan for what happens if she dies.  The only reason to dedicate time for a character to lay out a plan for what happens upon their death, is if that information/plan become relevant at some point.  I don’t think her demise is imminent, but I do think it’s coming.

wot ep 6 spoilers but like...tiny
The tail-end of the conversation(/rant) we overhear Nynaeve and Lan having before she realizes she’s being brought to see Egwaine is hilarious
Nynaeve: ...if you can’t lead the world from a room built of wood and dirt, how can you call yourself a leader?

Analyzing Chapters: Wheel of Time
Book 7: A Crown of Swords
Through chapters 13- 22
Again, miscommunication in this book continues to infuriate me. However, Jordan uses it as a very good tool to showcase how culture, distance between people, and timing of events can greatly affect how people and certain ideas are received by others. While my frustration is to the point I often need to put the book down and step away, this strong feeling tells me the writer has succeeded in the emotion he's attempting to convey. There are points I know Rand, Elaine, and Nynaeve wish they could just walk away, as I outside the book can, but they cannot. Their frustrations boil within me.
On the other hand, I feel frustrated listening to a character's dialogue, whether inner or outer, and knowing they are wrong. Knowing the correct answer is in their face, especially should they choose to think instead of speaking whatever is on their mind. Once again though, Jordan is doing his job as a writer. I'm being forced to feel this uncomfortably strong emotion, and as a result it makes the book that much more tantalizing.
As for a summary of events so far: Matt seems to be placated now that Nynaeve and Elaine have apologized, though the women don't see it that way. Their view of Matt being a hard headed brat is so ingrained into their beings, they cannot see the candid, almost boyish, way Matt is now speaking to them.
On the flip side, Matt is still incapable of seeing just how much Elaine and Nynaeve have accomplished on their own. So while I feel for Matt, I also feel for the women, because they cannot catch a break from the men in their lives attempting to play hero.
I'm deeply frustrated and hurt by Myrelle, who Lan's bond was passed to, taking advantage of the fact he is so broken, so lost, and sleeping with him. Though it seems consensual, there's something that feels morally wrong sleeping with a man who is so beaten down, so depressed. A man who, while not actively seeking death, is not a man who will avoid it either. Regardless of any love between him and Nynaeve, because as of right now they are my favorite couple in this series, I don't feel Lan deserved such treatment.
I was even more disgusted by the way all the women Egwaine spoke to would not take her seriously on the idea that Lan loves Nynaeve. In my eyes, it is a moment of hurt pride, and because of that, very clearly taking advantage of his current situation. It’s repulsive to think he could have been compelled, as Aes Sedai can do to their Warders, to sleep with Myrelle. With Lan’s sense of honor I don’t know if he truly would’ve been down to clown like that.
Egwaine continues to pull her own strings, as much as she can anyway, as a the newly raised Amirilyn. People truly don't realize how much they underestimate her, and how much of a mistake it was in raising her if they expected an easy going puppet. Egwaine is too smart and too strong of a woman.
I love the detail of both Elaine and Egwaine that, when met with a new culture, they do their best to embrace it wholeheartedly. I find it noble of both of them to do their best to understand the world from another culture's shoes. I know that this may be taught behavior on Elaine's end, but on Egwaine's I feel it marks her as a natural leader. She's more than willing to see things from another, if not multiple, perspectives.

Wheel of Time Ep. 4 : The Dragon Reborn
Holy CRAP you guys... The husband and I literally watched this one TWICE last night. So much good happening here, and it literally took us a while to calm down enough that we could fall asleep after. Where do I start??
No dialogue in this episode seemed wasted. Everything any character said seemed to advance the plot in some way, or give us valuable insight into the attitudes of another character.
Probably one of the more controversial episodes from the standpoint of “book accuracy,” as I don’t think most of this actually happened in the books, or at least not at all like it did in the show, but it’s also one of the divergences from the original plot that I agree with MOST. Showing the Aes Sedai and how they interact with one another is SUPER important for a non-reader’s understanding of the plot and I’m really glad they gave us this glimpse into them.
Logain was a BAD ASS and every scene he was in was a gift.
On the subject of Logain, did you notice how his weaves were white at first like the Saidar we’ve seen so far from the Aes Sedai, but then turned black slightly after? I love that representation of The Taint.
Alanna’s Warders cuddling by the fire gives me so much life. The Warder bond being so intimate, it’s a great way of showing that sort of casual affection they’d have for one another.
Lots of great story about Moiraine that didn’t come from Moiraine!
Kerene and Stepin talking about how Moiraine never tells anyone anything
Alanna talking about Moiraine keeping a secret puppy when she was a novice in the White Tower (alluding to Moiraine being good at keeping secrets right under everyone’s noses)
Liandrin being an asshole talking about the blues being “a bunch of spies”
Muddying the “Who’s the REAL Dragon Reborn?” question for the non-readers!
Thom talking about how Mat’s obviously a channeler because he’s showing signs of the madness (and telling a REALLY amazing story that I’m glad made it into the show about what happens to those who’ve been Gentled)
Logain saying Nyneave was “Brighter than the sun” after being told that’s what the Dragon would be like
A subtle exchange between Lan and Moiraine about Logain, when - after establishing that it took two very powerful Aes Sedai to shield him, full time, and even then he was able to test them - he asks “Is he as powerful as Egwaine?”
I’m sorry sir, is he powerful as WHOMST??
Overall, 10/10, I will probably watch this episode like 8 more times before next Friday. What’d ya’ll think?

Okay wheel of time episode one first impressions, don’t read if you haven’t read the books:
-giving Perrin a wife just to immediately fridge her sucks so bad I mean his and failes relationship is so amazing they didn’t need to add that baggage
-saying they don’t know the gender of the dragon reborn is absolute horseshit with all the gender dynamics of the magic that just makes no sense
-Rosalind Pike is the only actor who looks remotely like how I imagined their character but I’m kinda fine with that
-the womens circle is way too mystical the whole point of the two rivers is that it’s separate from all that
-the costume design is ...... interesting
-I patent patently refuse to believe rand and egwaine fuck that boy would die if he had a boner the first time he has sex he freaks out and asks her to marry him
-what the hell was with making mat’s parents like that? Unnecessary
-I liked what they did with the beltine ceremony it was a nice way to tie in some lore
-nyneave is way too nice where is my rbf best friend
Some glaring mistakes imho but definitely not ruined beyond repair

ok just realised that u HAVE done the legendary heroes (an absolutely kickass lyric comic btw holy shit) so i might humbly change my request to matty crits, ol cobb and egwain!
Tumblr media
matty bigcrits is truly just some dude, cobb was weirdly impossible to draw, and egwene is apparently just the chick from foster’s home for imaginary friends in my mind’s eye. Frankie or whatever, thats egwene
