when considering the deaths of the people on the dream smp server, yours is the hardest
schlatt was detested by all when he’d died
few people still truly cared for wilbur when he met his end; the man he once was was long gone by then
but you
you never changed
you were a constant for so many & immovably kind to the rest
selfless, giving, caring
even when you just wanted an escape, you came to the aid of your brothers
you gave the ultimate sacrifice & paid the price
everyone mourns you
when the battle is won & dream locked away indefinitely
once everyone has come down from the high of freeing themselves from dream’s reign, the server goes into a state of grieving
there’s no denying your death
they all saw the message in chat
you’re dead
those that were close to you took it hard
niki was narrowly stopped from burning down the bakery you encouraged her to open and helped build
eret put her emotions into work on a memorial in their museum for you
even under the egg’s control, bad & ant put the eggpire aside for you
of course, those who took it the hardest is your family
when ghostbur learns of your death, he’s distraught
he doesn’t quite know how to handle the information
he protects your home & only allows people to enter when he supervises them
tommy took a while to move past his anger & deal with the fact that you’re gone
tubbo ran off to start snowchester
he chose to distract himself rather than truly process his emotions, even if you’d always done your best to break that habit of his
now that you’re not around, who’s to stop him from letting himself be numb to it all?
techno is another one of your family members who chose to barely acknowledge your passing
he became somehow more monotonous & emotionless
and phil
...
there’s no word for a parent who loses a child
wilbur was gone & of course it messed phil up to be the one to take will’s last life but by that point his son was gone
but you
you’d always been such a genuinely good person
phil did so little for you as a father
he was so absent
he never apologized to you for that
he never told you how much he loves & appreciates you & everything you’ve done to keep their family together when he couldn’t be bothered
it’s a few hours after he received the news from ranboo that all the guilt for everything he had ever put you through hit him
he broke down in his kitchen while trying to distract himself by organizing his cupboards
but all he could think about was you
you & your never ending kindness & compassion
he was never a father to you
yet you never hated him
why couldn’t you have hated him?
it would hurt less to lose you if you hated him; it’s what he deserves
he’s unworthy of your love
but he can only dwell so long on you
you are given a proper funeral
you’re buried by the seashore, somewhere between l’manberg and tommy’s abandoned vacation homes in an open field
the sever members plant so many flowers, your gravesite becomes a flower field
but soon, life goes on
it will only hurt for longer to draw out the mourning period
it would do no good for anyone
besides, you wouldn’t want the server to be sad for your sake
techno supposes it’s for the best that you died
he does his best to move on, filling his days with resource gathering and upgrading his tools, weapons, and armor while trying to think through his emotions logically
as much as he liked you
as much as everyone liked you, you were too good
you were the best of them
fate is not kind to heroes
“hello!”
technoblade is not an easy man to sneak up on, let alone scare
the greeting itself isn’t want startles him
it’s turning toward the voice to lock eyes with you
you who is dead
techno is not proud of the sound he made when he saw you but you of all people wouldn’t make fun of him for it
he just stares at you, slowly realizing what’s happened
you look desaturated, the color drained from your clothes
your skin is grey & almost translucent
you’re a ghost
“y/n.”
“hello! who are you?”
techno tells no on one of your ghost form
he even keeps the rest of the server a secret from you
he leads you to your old home & leaves you there w/ ghostbur
he hopes your and ghostbur’s combined amnesia will keep you out of harm’s way i.e. the rest of the server
he visits you occasionally but mostly leaves you be
you live happily with ghostbur for a while
he is very glad to have you back
his memory is nearly as bad as yours, so the story of the server & what happened to you when you were alive is only given to you in bits & pieces that are near impossible to fit together
it was only a matter of time before someone came to visit your house
“...y/n?”
it’s tubbo who finds you first
or he finds your ghost
(tubbo) y/n! oh my god! you’re a ghost! you’ve come back!
(you) hello! *whispers* ghostbur, who is this?
(ghostbur, whispering obviously) that’s tubbo, one of your other brothers i’ve told you about
(you, whispering) oh, right
(tubbo) how long have you- oh, this is incredible! i have to tell tommy! he’s been so sad since you died; he’ll be so glad to see you!
tubbo messages tommy, who is skeptical but reluctantly comes to your house anyway
but there you are
your ghost anyway
which is good enough, honestly
(tommy) y/n!
you catch him in a hug easily, even if you’ve never met him before
(tommy) you’re alive!
(you) no i’m not. i’m a ghost!
techno happens to check in on you when tubbo & tommy are there
bad news for technoblade: you’d told them about techno leading you here
meaning: tommy knows techno hid you from him & everyone else
needless to say, he is not too happy about that
(tommy) you hid her! you kept her away from us!
(techno) tommy, you have to understand-
(tommy) i don’t have to understand shit! you hid her from us! you lied to us!
(techno) tommy-
(tommy) you kept her from everyone! you’re selfish and you’re a liar and you’re horrible and-
(techno) i did it to protect her! she’s been hurt enough protecting others; it’s our turn to protect her. the only way we can do that is by leaving her alone
(tommy) she’s my sister
(techno) your sister is dead, tommy. for once in her life, let her have peace
tommy gives up on techno & goes to you instead
(tommy) y/n! y/n, we can bring you back. we can revive you. well, dream can revive you but he’s in prison so he has to do what we say so we can bring you back. we can be a family again. don’t you want to come back?
(you) ...no
that
...
that isn’t what tommy was expecting
(tommy) what?
(you) if alive y/n comes back, i won’t exist anymore. and i’ve only just got here. i don’t want to go yet
(tommy) don’t you understand how much y/n means to me? y/n has to come back. she has to. she’s so important. not just to me but to, um... tubbo as well! right, tubbo? don’t you want y/n back?
tommy looks to tubbo for some backup but the shorter boy looks away
(tubbo) i think we need to let y/n go, tommy
the betrayal that fills tommy’s chest is soon gone as he locks eyes with techno
tommy knows techno is right
you’re too much of a good person
you’re too willing to sacrifice yourself for others
even as a ghost your kindness is blinding
this server will only drain you of everything you have yet again
he will drain you of everything you are
he’s just tried to convince you to cease to exist to bring back the former version of yourself
(you) i’m sorry. it’s just- i’ve heard there are these really pretty blue flowers in the swamp biome that i haven’t got to see yet-
(tommy) no. it’s fine. i’m sorry. i-... i should go.
tommy leaves your house & tubbo goes with him
even if tubbo caught on a bit sooner to techno’s reasoning, he’s still concerned at his friend’s sudden change in character
(tubbo) tommy... are you alright?
(tommy) ...i really want her back
(tubbo) i do, too. but she’s gone
(tommy) she doesn’t have to be
tubbo can’t argue with that
(tommy) but... maybe it’s for the best
(tubbo) really?
(tommy) yeah.
(tubbo) but just earlier you were telling me about your plan to get the revive book from dream
(tommy) techno’s right, tubbo. all everyone- myself included- has ever done to y/n is take. and she’s given everything
(tubbo) because she loved us
(tommy) as much as she loved us and as much as we loved her... the only thing we’ve ever brought her is pain. i think now... now is her time to rest.
(tubbo) ...that’s very pog champ of you, big man
tommy had planned to visit dream as many times as it took to get the revive book location off of him so he could revive you, but now he’s accepted that he needs to move on
he needs to move on from you & dream & everything dream has put him through
he decides to pay one last visit to dream, put him behind him, & never look back
he’s ready to start a new chapter in his life, one without dream
and the first one without you
but then he’s locked in the prison
two weeks pass
nearing three weeks & tommy still isn’t allowed out of dream’s cell
he’s irritated and annoyed and most of all he’s scared
but he can’t let dream know he’s still afraid of him, that’s why he pisses dream off enough to the point of being beat to death
tommy begs him to stop
but then he’s gone
everything is dark
black
empty
nothing
is this what death is?
conscious in absolute nothingness?
tommy’s feet feel the ground beneath him
his senses come back to him
it’s still dark but he feels as though he can see again
where is he?
heaven?
no, probably hell
or maybe neither?
both...?
what the hell happened?
the first thing to break the silence is the voice tommy has known since he was an infant
the voice of the person who raised him
the voice of the person who has always been there for him
the voice of the person who he has finally let go of
your voice
saying one simple word
“tommy?”

One Last Time
Summary: (Y/N) goes to live with her Uncle Tubbo in the aftermath of their lose.
Pairings: Parental! Tommy x Teenage! F!Reader
Platonic! Ranboo, Tubbo x Teenage! F!Reader
Warnings: Angst, Mentions of Death, Mentions of Exile, Everyone’s just sad man.
This the second part to True One
The next part is A Normal Smile
A/N: Two different people wanted this,  🐝 anon and @samistheidiot So, here you guys go!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        (Y/N)…wished it was a nightmare, that Tommy would shake her awake like she’d done many times before for him when he’d have a nightmare.
        Instead, there she stood in Snowchester, staring at her Uncle Tubbo’s house. He’d grabbed her things from…Tommy’s house and brought her back to his own home. Tubbo had found her with Sam and had broken down with her this time. She tried to deny everything Sam was telling her, what she saw on her walkie. Yet, when Tubbo pulled her in and held her close, she knew it was real this time.
        He wasn’t coming back.
        It took hours to finally get (Y/N) out of the hotel and into a boat with Tubbo. When she had first exhausted herself, Tubbo had a serious conversation with Sam. Tubbo knew what Tommy always wanted for his little girl. He’d been there through many steps of their lives, so he knew what Tommy would have wanted now. (Y/N) would come with him.
        Sam wanted to argue that he could take care of her but…he didn’t have faith in himself anymore and agreed it was best.
        Tubbo stood at the door, looking back at (Y/N), who hadn’t spoken since they left the hotel room.
        “(Y/N).” He called gently, her dull gaze looking at him now, making his throat tighten. “Come inside, let’s get warm.”
        She sighed, following him. She went back to the room she had been in when…
        Tears welled in her eyes as she sat on the bed. He was supposed to come to get her; they were supposed to have been celebrating. She buried her face in her hands as Tubbo was putting down his things in the main room, still trying to process his own feelings.
        He was in full denial.
        Tommy shouldn’t have gone like that. In the prison, beaten to death…Tommy shouldn’t have gone at all. Not his best friend. Tommy just had to be alive, he just had to, just like last time! He still had a daughter to raise!
        …but Tubbo knew he was wrong deep down.
        “Tubbo!” Ranboo burst into his home, out of breath.
        Ranboo had gotten the same message as everyone else. He had gone all the way from his base at Techno’s to see Tubbo first.
        “Hey, Ranboo.” He said quietly. “I guess you saw.”
        “I-I did. It’s wrong, right? There’s no way…” Ranboo tried to deny himself.
        “…Sam said it’s real.” Tubbo gripped his hands along the edges of a chest. “That Dream and Tommy were fighting and then…they were actually fighting…”
        “No…No that can’t be right. Sam should have…Dream wouldn’t have…”
        “What do you mean Dream wouldn’t have?” (Y/N) spat as she came into the room. “Dream was a fucking psychopath! We all knew that! Yet we let my fucking father stay in the godforsaken prison cell with him! After all the shit he’s put my family through! WE LEFT TOMMY IN THERE!”
        “(Y/N).” Tubbo took a step towards her.
        “No, I don’t have time for this shit. It’s just like exile.” (Y/N) scoffed, putting her hands in her pockets as she walked back to her room, slamming the door.
        Tubbo was frozen in his spot as tears gathered in his eyes, (Y/N)’s old words screaming in his head.
        It’s your fault!
        Ranboo looked at his friend before quickly following after the girl knocking on the door.
        “Go away!” She shouted.
        “No, I won’t. That wasn’t fair. We’ve all lost someone today.”
        (Y/N) boiled in her room as she stormed to the door and threw it open, tears stuck in her eyes.
        “Yeah? Well, guess what? Life isn’t really fucking fair now is it?” Her shoulders were shaking in anger. “You know what my dad was doing at my age? He was fighting in a god damn war for a country that doesn’t even exist anymore! He lost two lives to a green fucking bastard. And now, he’s lost a third because no one listens when someone screams for help.”
        Ranboo stood there in shock as she stared at him.
        “You can’t tell me what’s fair. I watched my dad go through trial after trial. So, I mean this in the nicest way possible, fuck off.”
        She closed the door again and locked it before sliding her back down against the door as she sat on the floor, letting her tears flow again as she was in privacy. It was going to be a long day…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        Tubbo and Ranboo let her have her privacy. Ranboo had decided he’d stay for a while as he figured his friend would need all the help he could get as he was grieving and also now had a grieving teenager living with him. The two didn’t see (Y/N) the rest of the day and the next morning came.
        (Y/N) woke up from her spot on the floor trying to clear her mind and remember what happened. She wished she hadn’t as she pulled her legs up and hugged them with one arm and her other hand lightly gripped onto her bandana. Her thoughts went wild in the early morning light.
        She didn’t have anything of her father’s. His gear would all be in the prison and she refused to ever be near that place again. The more important thing was the discs; she couldn’t ever get those. They were in Tommy’s ender chest. She’d never hear them again, not that she wanted to without Tommy…
        If the adults had just listened to her, let her storm that building when she had the chance…!
        It was her fault too…
        No, none of this was her fault, it was the adults that wouldn’t listen!...
        She held her head as her thoughts were scrambled in anger at herself and anger at others. She thought she was supposed to be sad but she was just…angry. Angry at Sam, Tubbo, Ranboo, Dream.
        She remembered being angry when she thought her father was originally dead. Tubbo had been the primary target of her anger because he was Uncle Tubbo but he never listened to her anymore. He did a lot to reconcile with her over after everything was said and done, Tommy helping his best friend do so, wanting his daughter and friend to see each other as a family once again.
        She felt guilt now for what she said the day before. She shouldn’t have brought up exile, Tubbo regretted it every day and tried so hard to reconnect with the two of them.
        “(Y/N)?” Tubbo knocked on her door.
        She didn’t move.
        “(Y/N), this is my house, I have a key.”
        “So?” She muttered.
        “Please open the door.”
        “Shouldn’t you be angry?” She asked instead.
        “Why?” Tubbo questioned, confused.
        “…I brought that time up.”
        Tubbo felt his heart pound a little harder before he took a deep breath. “Can I come in please?”
        She huffed, but got up slowly and opened the door, Tubbo standing there with a plate of food and water. He came in, putting the plate and cup down on the nightstand as (Y/N) sat on the bed. Tubbo sat next to her, connecting his hands as he looked down at them.
        “I know…I messed up back then. Things might have been different if I had listened to you like I was supposed to. I was supposed to take care of you for…for Tommy.” His breath shook. “I failed…in a lot of different ways with a lot of different things. I tried to make it all better after. When he got stuck in the prison, I didn’t tell you,” Tubbo looked at her with tears in his eyes, “but I went to Sam privately demanding to know why he wouldn’t let Tommy out. I was trying to make sure I did it right this time. I wouldn’t let this be exile.”
        (Y/N)’s guilt piled on her as tears welled in her eyes. Tubbo put an arm around her shoulder before pulling her into a hug as he put his head on top of hers.
        “I don’t know what happened in there but I promise you, I will find out,” Tubbo promised with his whole heart. “For myself, you, and Tommy, I’ll figure out what happened.”
        “I’m sorry Uncle Tubbo.” She cried on him now.
        “It’s alright. I’m angry at everything too.” He muttered. “But we’ll figure it out.”
        He let her cry it all out on him as he let a few of his own tears drip before making sure she ate and drank.
        “I’m not going to force you to do anything,” Tubbo told her as he took the half-eaten plate. “I’ll be here though if you need anything.”
        “…Uncle Tubbo?”
        He stopped at the door, looking at her.
        “I want to make a memorial for dad.” She whispered.
        His whole body softens as he thought before nodding. “Ok, we can do that. Get dressed and we’ll go work on it now.”
        Tubbo went out with (Y/N), letting Ranboo know what they were doing and the hybrid let them have their moment. Tubbo built a wooden headstone as (Y/N) gathered a few flowers and paused in her work before she got a jukebox to rest next to the headstone. As the last piece of their exhausting work, they made a bench together and both hesitated.
        “I’m…I got a disc, hang on.” He muttered.
        He went back inside to get a disc as (Y/N) stood there, staring at the memorial they had built, cobblestone outlining the area. Tubbo came back, turning a disc in his hand.
        “It’s…not one of his. But I know he’ll appreciate it where ever he is.”
        He put the disc on and stepped back. He motioned to the bench as the music started to play. (Y/N) couldn’t even produce tears as she sat in the middle of the bench, Tubbo on her left. They both stared at the words Tubbo had carved into the wood before (Y/N) spoke.
        “You remember that play he loved?” (Y/N) muttered.
        “Yeah, Hamilton. He managed us all tickets because said he couldn’t live with a daughter who hadn’t seen it.” Tubbo laughed quietly at the memory.
        “There’s a few words that keep playing in my head from one of the songs.” She looked at her hands. “And then we'll teach them how to say goodbye. …Dad never taught me how to say goodbye…”
        “…Well, we’ll make this our last time with…Tommy…and we’ll learn to say goodbye together.”
        (Y/N) put her head on Tubbo’s shoulder and he hugged her close as the jukebox stopped playing.
        “And now it’s quiet uptown…” She mumbled.
        Tubbo couldn’t help a soft smile. Tommy loved that play and (Y/N) had adopted it onto herself, learning every single song just like him. She dozed off on Tubbo’s shoulder and he sat there like that for just a little longer.
        “I’ll make sure it’s not always quiet. I’ll take care of her Tommy. I promise.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        Days dragged on.
        Tubbo and Ranboo took turns making sure (Y/N) would eat and drink. It was three days before she left her room to walk around. When she was finally walking around again and eating full plates of food, Tubbo decided to start his investigation into Tommy’s death. He promised (Y/N) he’d figure it out and he would, for his, hers, and Tommy’s sake. This shouldn’t have happened and he’ll be damned if it goes unsolved.
        Ranboo was to stay with (Y/N) in Snowchester, just to be sure she’d be alright. He was waiting with breakfast in the morning, Tubbo having gone in the early, early morning, but there was no sign of the teenager after an hour of waiting. Getting up, Ranboo knocked on her door.
        “(Y/N)?” He called softly.
        He thought it was only fair if she was upset in her room. He was still processing the fact one of his friends was gone. There were small tracks of burn marks from when he had cried originally, his tears having run out now after the past few days. He couldn’t imagine though what (Y/N) must feel every day.
        “(Y/N), can you open the door?” He reached out again.
        She still gave him no answer and he sighed.
        “I got to come in, so freak out.”
        He opened the door and looked around the room. Instead, he was the one freaking out as he saw an empty room and an open window.
        “Oh, oh god. Where is she?” He ran to the window, looking out to see slowly fading footprints from the falling snow. “Crap. Ok, I just got to find her.”
        He ran to put on his warm clothes before moving quickly to not lose the tracks. They lead on and on, all the way to the edge of the snowy biome and towards the Dream SMP land.
        “Where did she go?” Ranboo panicked as there was no way to track her from here.
        He’d just have to work his way around the land. There was one place he could think of first, the hotel. Tubbo had told Ranboo that (Y/N) would now be the owner of the hotel according to Sam Nook once she was ok again. It was Tommy’s final project and he assumed she’d be there. So, he ran down the path towards the hotel but sputtered to stop as he saw a familiar figure sitting on a bench with a disc playing in the jukebox next to the bench.
        Ranboo hesitated as they were in their own world as they stared at the rising sun, but he came over because he needed to know.
        “Hey.” He said as he stopped a few steps away.
        (Y/N) jumped as she looked over at him.
        “Oh, hey.” She gave him a weak smile. “I…didn’t really process how late it was, you came looking for me?”
        “Yeah, I did. You had me worried. Luckily, Tubbo was doing something else.” He said as he sat on her right, making her stiffen. “What’s wrong?”
        “I just…dad sat there.”
        “Oh gosh, I’m sorry.” He stood up, instead sitting on her left, making her relax. “Is that why you sit in the middle?”
        She hesitated before nodding. “Tubbo on my left and dad on my right…We’d sit here some days for hours and just…watch the sun go up then down. I couldn’t think of anywhere else better to go…”
        Ranboo nodded, not sure why she needed to go here. Then again, as he looked behind him, of course, there was her old home. A few monuments had been constructed for Tommy.
        “What did you want to do here?” He asked carefully, looking at her as she was watching the skyline again.
        “…It’s stupid.” She muttered standing up.
        “No, no, it’s ok. I won’t judge you. I won’t even write it in my memory book if you don’t want me to.” (Y/N) looked at him and he stood up, towering over her but he crouched a bit as he put his hands on her shoulders. “I would never want to hurt you.”
        (Y/N) sighed as she looked at the bench and jukebox, finished playing the song.
        “Dad…Dad told me he and Uncle Tubbo heard Wilbur, actually Wilbur. And…” She rubbed her arm, shrugging.
        “You wanted to see if Tommy would come.”
        She nodded, a few stray tears coming loose and burning his enderman hand as he wiped them away but he didn’t flinch. “I just…I never got to say goodbye you know? I’ve never lost anyone really. Sure, I lost Uncle Wilbur but then I got Uncle Ghostbur, who was everything I loved before Wilbur went crazy. So, I never lost him. I didn’t have to say goodbye. But with dad…there’s nothing and I just…”
        Ranboo stood up and pulled her close into a hug, she hugging him back as she buried her face in his chest.
        “I just wanted him back one more time so I could tell him I loved him and say goodbye.” She gripped onto his shirt.
        “He knew you loved him; I know he did and he loved you so much. When I first met Tommy, he just kept going on about you and I thought you must be the happiest girl in the world to have such a loving dad like Tommy.” Ranboo muttered as she sniffled. “I wish I could say goodbye to him too…maybe we can do it a bit differently though.” She looked up at him and he gave her a sad smile. “Let’s get some flowers.”
        Together, (Y/N) and he gathered white and red flowers close by and planted them right outside the door. They both stood side by side and (Y/N) looked up at Ranboo at what to do next. Ranboo took a deep breath before stepping forward.
        “There’s…not much I can do so this is how I’m supposed to deal with this. I got some flowers with (Y/N) for you to make this little shrine, to help move on.” Ranboo had so many words to say, some of them cruel about the response of others in the world around them but he held his tongue to repeat them for another time when (Y/N) wasn’t beside him, looking for closure herself. “There’s not really much we can do…with you gone. I know I’m forgetful, but I won’t forget you and I wanted to save this memory of your place like this. I’m sure it won’t be here forever as many things you created…were destroyed. But, the one thing that can’t be broken, that can’t be destroyed…is what you left behind…and the people you left behind.”
        Ranboo looked at (Y/N), seeing her with new tears as she lightly gripped her bandana. He looked at the allium he had in his hands before looking back at the empty house.
        “Remember this? I gave you one of these and you immediately insulted me…That was the first time we interacted.” He remembered, (Y/N) giving a sad laugh. “I gave you one of these, you insulted me, and then…I helped with the thing that led you…to your demise…” It was all quiet as the pair stood there. “So, so here Tommy.” He put the flower on the ground in front of the door. “Have a flower…” They stood silent. “There’s no one there to pick it up anymore…so that means… goodbye Tommy.”
        He stepped back, (Y/N) standing there before walking forward, looking at Ranboo.
        He nodded encouragingly and she took a deep breath.
        “I…I came to the prison after I heard what happened. I…I don’t know if you heard me…but I shouted that I loved you and that I’d make sure you get out. I promised myself that it wouldn’t be like exile. That I’d make sure someone would get you out and Sam promised he would…” She played with her hands. “I could blame a lot of people…but I can’t. All I can blame is Dream. People should have listened but it was Dream’s fault. You always told me that.
        “You did so much for so many different people and people try to prove wrong but I know what you were really like because…you were my dad. You were the best. And…I’m going to miss you so much…There’s so much you didn’t get to teach me. One of them being, you never taught me how to say goodbye. But don’t worry Mr. Hamilton.” She smiled sadly at the door, tears trailing down. “I’ll figure it all out. It may be quiet right now but hopefully, I can hear everything again and remember what it was like to be happy, just for you.”
        She played with her bandana, sighing quietly.
        “I love you so much daddy, and I miss you. I have to say goodbye though, one last time. Till we meet again.”
        She turned from the door and started walking. Ranboo put a hand on her shoulder as he walked with her, neither seeing the figure currently invisible to the human eye.
        Tommy smiled sadly as he picked up a ghost of the flower left in front of him and moved past them, kicking up wind that made (Y/N) bandana dance in the wind. He knew she’d be ok…
I’ve seen again the clip with Tommy talking about grief and... oh boy... oh boy there’s a LOT to unpack there.
So, what are c!Tommy’s suggestions in dealing with grief?
First one: “I’m sure it’s gonna get better over time and you’ll live and you’ll learn and you’ll forget about him”
First and foremost, it’s true that the grieving process takes a long time, especially if the one who died is someone you were close to, but the objective of this healing process shouldn’t be to forget the person. So why does he feel like it is? Maybe bacause he was never properly given a chance to mourn Willbur, to actually gather his thoughts about him, to get closure. After his death Willbur was painted as an irredeemable monster, but Tommy never saw him that way, even after seeing him at his worst, he always had hope for Willbur to “come back around” as he said. He didn’t stick by his side out of pity, he did it because he believed in his mentor. But he never got the chance to think about his feelings on him that much. Better to just forget...
Second one: “He probably wasn’t as good of a friend as you remembered, usually when people pass away you remember them better. I’m sure he wasn’t that good... average at best”
What could give Tommy this mindset? Clearly it’s not Willbur in this case as we know he was greatly demonized after he passed away. Then who is someone Tommy lost that “wasn’t that great of a friend”? Maybe Dream? Or Techno? Both of them hurt him greatly. Both of them he’s had to leave for his own wellbeing. He felt guilt about leaving both of them and only remembered them as “good friends” at the start (more so Dream then Techno for this last one). Life has thought him that, when loosing people (wether it’s because they died or because their paths diverged) you tend to see your time together trough rose-colored lenses. It’s kind of a cynical worldview, but it tends to be true nonetheless. But, once he put more distance from those events, he realized every time that the people he lost weren’t honestly that good. Dream was manipulative and so was Wilbur (Tommy knows this. so was Techno, but Tommy never realised that one) and Techno never really saw him as a friend or a person.
Third: “I’m sorry about the trauma, just make sure to clean yourself up”
Now, this could be interpreted literally (especially since they are talking about Jack dying on top of Tubbo), but hey, It’s not me if I don’t overanalize everything, so here we go! We know c!Tommy struggled greatly with depression when he was in exile and had a hard time taking care of himself (which is pretty common when you have severe depression). Why was he struggling with this in the first place? Well, because he lost everyone. He thought nobody cared about him any longer, and it was confirmed to him constantly (in his mind of course) by how nobody ever went to visit. He probably doesn’t want his friend to go trough what he did, so he reminds him to keep taking care of himself because he knows how important it is.
Last one: “Don’t let this ruin your life”
This one is pretty self-explainatory. Every time he lost someone, no matter how bad they were for him, something awful happened to him. Wilbur died? L’Manburg was exploded and Techno released the withers betraying them and telling him to die. He lost his friends and L’Maburg because he was exiled and in exile he was put trough Hell. Then he lost Dream and he had to hide from him constantly and see himself become a person he hated. He lost Techno and New L’Manburg got blown up with tnt and withers once again. It doesn’t matter if this events aren’t cause and effect, because they still form a correlation in his brain: loosing someone can and will ruin your life.
Tubbo is right in saying Tommy doesn’t deal well with grief... he honestly needs therapy more then anything... and the “why” he doesn’t is very understandable. Any time of relative peace anyone else has had to deal with their issues wasn’t granted to him. All he was given was more trauma and new manipulative mentor figures...
can I hear more about your c!niki silver spoon thingy? ummm I kinda wanna hear more about like your thought process behind it? I like the take I just wanna hear you talk more about it! its fine if you dont tho!
hell yeah >:)
a lot of this is from memory, so lmk if i miss out any crucial details. this is also gonna sound critical of her character, because, well, i am.
so niki came onto the server after the revolutionary war - not during it. i know a lot of people thought she and jack fought in it, but they didn't. niki was the last of the original l'manbergians, and she, upon joining the server, was immediately brought in. she was given shelter, a home, food, practically everything she wanted. she was loved almost unanimously by the whole server - heck, tommy was intimidated by her and still is, and tommy was often intimidated into helping her. a key example of this is the pet wars - tommy and niki had both been wronged by sapnap and seeked retribution for it - tommy wanted an eye for an eye and niki wanted an apology. tommy worked hard to get niki that damn apology while i don't really remember niki doing much in terms of furthering that effort.
all of a sudden, people are no longer happy with how wilbur's running things, and, come the elections, fundy and niki decide that they should run for presidency under COCONUT2020, despite not having the visibility, the competence to run the country or the plans. they were such an awful option for l'manberg that the only way they could have won is if the rigged voting went undetected. so, schlatt/swag2020 wins, and wilbur and tommy have their citizenships revoked, and thus is manberg born.
tubbo and fundy were inducted into the cabinet in manberg whereas niki was unfairly targeted by the administration. obviously there is sympathy here, but there's a clear motive as to why niki specifically was targeted - schlatt was under the assumption that tubbo and fundy were on his side, whereas niki vocally was not. and, as per schlatt's character description given by cc!wilbur, schlatt wants to punish those who are against him. he did it with tubbo at the festival, and he repeatedly insulted quackity and fundy. it would be out of character for him not to swat the fly buzzing in his ear all the time.
niki was an activist, which is fine, but there really was little effort on her part other than verbal protest. it took a while for niki to finally leave manberg of her own accord when she went to live in tommy's holiday home and take care of henry, and she was finally rescued from manberg alongside tubbo following the festival. now, she has the opportunity to gain some of her autonomy and reclaim power for herself from schlatt in reclaiming and reinstating l'manberg. following the pit fight, her, tommy and tubbo make it their mission to reclaim l'manberg.
except, she just kind of faded away. there was setup, there was a good buildup, but she just kind of faded into obscurity for a short while, and then kind of made a major reappearance when november 16th rolled around. and then she kind of went away again.
she knew that tubbo's goal was to rebuild l'manberg and try to make it the best version that it can be. he even included her in his cabinet as treasury of state, and her bakery was completely intact. she had the full freedom to help rebuild the country that she'd spent like a month and a half fighting for, and she had the time and the freedom to finally start fresh after schlatt's oppression.
instead, she runs away to drywaters with fundy because she feels 'excluded'.
the above statement is complete bullshit, imo. she wasn't 'excluded', she wasn't there. to be included you actively have to seek out inclusion. from niki's perspective she was treated like a bystander, but from the cabinet's perspective she was MIA, maybe except for fundy's.
so when doomsday rolls around, she's up and decided that, after two months of having the freedom and the autonomy to reclaim her power and help herself, because, y'know, everyone else had spent those two months trying to help themselves, she's had enough. she's annoyed that people aren't giving her the immediate protection and love that the original l'manberg gave her when she first came to the server. i don't think she expected that, after wilbur's death, she was to put the effort in and help remake it. c!niki is lazy.
niki thought l'manberg meant that she would be taken in and given everything she needed again, but she was wrong in that assumption. i think she misunderstood what l'manberg was, especially having not been a part of the revolution. her viewpoint of l'manberg was skewed from the start and when she didn't receive immediate reparations (from people that didn't oppress her, mind you), she got irritated.
she should blame wilbur, and she should blame techno, and she should blame phil, and she should blame dream. but those four individuals are out of her reach - instead, she'll pin it all on tommy, someone who's been away for most of what's happened not by his own choice, just because she's projecting everything she hates about those four individuals onto him. niki has now even spoken to techno so that he could help her because she still hasn't learnt that nobody's around to provide for her like they did back when she first joined - neither does anyone have the obligation to do this, either. niki, in her own delusions, has convinced herself that someone who has provided for her, and has fought for her is the object of her hatred and is everything that's wrong with the dream smp and has deluded herself into thinking that the death of tommy will bring her peace. it will not, and to be honest, neither will the deaths of the people she should actively hate.
tldr; niki joined the server and was immediately provided for and began to associate l'manberg with being provided for, but when pogtopia reclaimed l'manberg she refused to acknowledge that she would have to begin to provide for herself, and that l'manberg wasn't about providing for her, especially considering they were just a crater and that they were in the process of rebuilding everything for themselves anyway - niki actually probably was one of the least affected by november 16th considering her home was still intact. unable to reach for the real oppressors in her life, she instead punches down at someone she projects her hatred onto - the caricature of someone she was told was a hero, and when he didn't live up to that standard perfectly and valiantly, she got irritated.
and yes, wilbur's death affected her, i'm not going to neglect that information. wilbur was her close friend, and his death would have left her grieving, but that's no excuse considering everyone else was able to start anew in the tubbo administration. had she joined in with rebuilding, i'm 100% positive that they would have been courteous to her and included her from the start. but when you remove yourself from a situation, don't expect to be included. niki is partly at fault here. she knew wilbur wasn't a fit president anyway back in the elections, so she should have worked with her friends to make l'manberg the best version of itself alongside the rest of the cabinet - but she didn't.
Why I sympathize with or apologize for these Dream SMP characters
Since I’m very unwell and watch just about every perspective on the Dream SMP, I’m a sympathizer or apologist for just about every character. I figured I’d share my thoughts on that. This is probably gonna be long.
Before I get started, here’s who I’m not a sympathizer or apologist for
c!Dream: fuck this guy. You’re not supposed to sympathize with him. He’s just all around evil, man. He’s an abuser, manipulator and he preys on those weaker than him. I still enjoy his character however, he’s just so delightfully hateable and I love when villains are hateable.
c!Sam: I get Sam. I really do. I understand where he’s coming from. But good god, it’s just not working! His little system keeps fucking up and he doesn’t really seem to get that it’s the system itself and not the people fucking it up. He’s too damn lawful for his own good. The prison is eating at him and you can see how he’s becoming more and more a bastardized version of the man he used to be. I want to be able to sympathize with him, and I’m not going to excuse the shitty things he’s done, but I understand him. As he is right now he’s gone off the deep end and doesn’t even know it yet. However I do think he can change. There’s still a chance for it.
Any other character not listed I simply just do not have an opinion on them. Maybe I don’t watch them often, there’s just not much to their character, or they simply haven’t done much for them to need apologists or sympathizers.
Now onto the list
c!Tommy: this kid has been through so much and received so little support. Like yeah, he’s done some wrong things, but he’s been so disproportionately punished for them. Like almost everyone else does the things he does without any repercussions. He’s also stopped doing most of the things people had issues with, or is at least trying. I feel like people don’t realize half the reason Tommy did any of his ‘bad’ things is he’s simply never been taught better. Everyone wants him to learn his lesson but never actually teach him anything but violence and pain. Also, half the things the fandom calls him an asshole for are literally mental illness symptoms. Stop that. Kids got some things messed up in his head. I’m not one to diagnose but he gets pretty damn close to the criteria for C-PTSD. You know, from the near constant trauma in his life. Kid needs a break. And a doctor.
c!Techno: I’m really flip floppy with him. His motives are understandable but his morals are wack as hell. I get wanting something against people who’ve wronged you. I get disliking government. What I don’t get, is the absolute disproportionate retribution he delivers. I also don’t get his moral high ground. He has his reasons for distrusting government. He has his reasons for disliking L’Manburg (o7). And I think it’s perfectly valid to want to air his grievances. He’s got a very admirable combination of “do unto others” and “an eye for an eye”. Mans just bungles the execution of these ideas. He’s got a lot of problems, but however, I feel like he’s got something coming to him. cc!Techno’s a better writer than this. And now with it seeming like a lot of miscommunication is getting cleared up, some of Technos past transgressions might come back to him. I think he’s headed in an interesting direction.
c!Phil: a lot of what I said for Techno applies to him as well. In addition, we know he also blames the government for his son’s spiral and death. It makes sense based on what he knows. I had something completely different here in the drafts but now we know that Wilbur didn’t tell him the truth about what happened in Manburg-Pogtopia era of the SMP. He’s been completely misinformed and you can TELL this has shaken his world up. He’s gaining a lot of new knowledge really fast. It’s becoming clear that maybe he’s beginning to regret some of what he’s done. But beyond the misinformation, he also just never got much time to actually grieve for his son and heal before the plot moved on. I feel like Phil is one of those guys who sorta just stuffs all his emotions away, but now it’s getting to be too much. He has a lot of hidden depth and I think he’s definitely on the way to a different role than what he’s played.
c!Wilbur: before his death, Wilbur needed help. No one realized anything was wrong until it was too late to pull him out of his spiral. We now know he started falling after Eret’s betrayal. He was paranoid and growing to hate what he had created. It seems like Eret was the catalyst, but the election was the straw that broke the camels back. Everyone just kind of sat around and hoped he’d change his mind. The only one willing to try was Tommy, and Tommy was just a kid. Something could have been done for him. He wasn’t a villain. He was just someone who went down a dark path that could have been pulled away if someone who wasn’t a 16 year old boy tried to reach out to him. Post-resurrection, he seems to be happy to be alive again. I’m not saying he’s completely out of the spiral but clearly something changed in limbo. And yeah him saying Dream is his hero is hella sketch but I mean, he doesn’t have the full story yet. I need to see more of revivedbur to make an opinion on him entirely.
c!Tubbo: this kid has had so little agency for so much of the plot. Most of the bad things he’s done were under duress or because he was practically being used. He really was a pawn in other peoples games, unfortunately. Any action of his that wasn’t like this was something he did out of pure reaction. He’s a very reactionary guy. He doesn’t start shit but he’ll try to finish it if he can. Tubbo is mostly just trying to get by. He’s been a soldier, a spy, a president and whatever else he needed to be or what others needed him to be. His time as president had him being pushed around and put under pressure he should never been put under. He was backed into corner after corner and expected to make the right decision with different people telling him what that was. Now he’s just trying to have some peace for himself and his family. He made the nukes for defense and defense only. It’s extreme but he’s been taught that extremism is the only thing that works.
c!Ranboo: dude literally doesn’t know what, when, or how he did any of the bad things he did. He’s not himself for most of the wrongdoings he’s done. Hell, we don’t even know if he actually did do some of the things or if it’s Dream manipulating him. Dream is literally taking advantage of Ranboo having the Enderwalk state. This makes him one of the most dangerous people on the server as Dream puppet, but also one of the most victimized. Now this doesn’t absolve him completely because harm was still done but it’s a reasonable cause behind his actions. Like I mentioned he’s also a victim of Dream in this way. Even he’s scared of what could happen and the possibility that he could be a danger to the people he loves. Granted his moral code used to be pretty wack but he’s getting better at that. I really like his “choose people” stance bc at first it was just him making his own side but now he’s genuinely picking and choosing people and being with them because he likes them as people rather than their stance on things. He and Tubbo were already friends before they got married, he’s not an official part of Snowchester though, iirc, and the only reason he joined The Syndicate was to make sure they don’t go after Tubbo.
c!Fundy, c!Niki, and c!Jack all go in the “seek some healthy coping mechanisms for the love of god” pile. Niki has already started on this as she’s baking again. c!Fundy honestly hasn’t done much wrong afaik, but he still needs to go to therapy that poor fox boy has so much daddy issues and sadness. c!Jack literally just needs to work through his issues with Tommy bc dude only knows murder as an answer to his problems. There’s other ones and he should learn them. These three are just traumatized and don’t know what to do with themselves.
