My parents decided to just roam for the month of December. Who knows why. They said they didn’t want to do holiday stuff until the new year. Found out later they’d had thanksgiving with my nana. Honestly it woulda been fine if they’d just said they didn’t want the kids over? But instead mom decided lying that they weren’t doing it at all was easier.

My transphobic sister is having a baby so they decided to drive down to her state to see her, after telling me they’d come to my choir concert. And again. That’s fine, I get that the baby is a bigger deal.

But mom asked me to look after her chickens while they’re gone. I dragged myself over aching in every bone from overexertion yesterday, including the concert. When I called concerned about one of her hens dragging a lame foot around she told me that’s just how that chickens always been and not to worry about it. Didn’t ask me how the concert had been.

When my betrothed got home I was deep in sadness pits. I told them, “I feel like that chicken. Hobbling around receiving inferior care and attention from my mom.”

They baked cookies and we cuddled about it.

Had some wine feeling good made a really shitty bowl in ceramics class this morning that I’m really worried has a bunch of air holes in it and had a really crappy therapy session where I didn’t talk too much but was honest about some other stuff which is good overall I guess but now I’m doing drunk crochet and watching the Duggar family documentary and probably going to stop watching soon once they start talking about the awful stuff but yeah day in the life of a woman doing her best I guess

#like both sides of my family are either Irish catholic. converted assimilation catholic. or part Jewish but raised catholic. #but my mom read the Boston glob report so I wasn’t baptized or anything and despite her born again phase I’ve never really been religious #so the thought of growing up in that environment is like I can’t imagine the pressure oh my god #like I’ve had Mormon friends and have some friends who were raised homeschool Christian married young and all and like #i don’t know it’s just wild how different our lives are like I’ve got a problems and def inherited the guilt complex thing for sure but like #I also never got told to submit to anyone or that god was watching #or to be modest or any of the purity stuff beyond normal patriarchy stuff #like I’m not saying my life is better but I didn’t do church after age 5 and only go to funeral masses so I like the comfort of like #doing sign of cross and saying Hail Mary and all bc it provides structure for grief but beyond that I can’t imagine living with all of that #these are very long tags with no real point beyond wow. that’s literally bananas to me. but did I mention I’m a little drunk #and even then my family isn’t like hardcore catholic. my grandma and her siblings skipped church to get donuts bc no farm work on Sunday #and my dad grew up like doing fasted mass and everything but heard the 2000s Harvey milk speech and realized gay ppl are okay #and then rest of extended dads side is like catholic but vote blue and think human rights are good and all #my mom has a student who’s like very traditional catholic like she was trying to teach him math and whatever #and the live coverage of waiting for pope confirmation was on tv the whole time #and he fights with her about evolution and learning about the existence of other religions and everything #so I guess even in my own family like. everyone’s down with basic science and civil liberties which is even weirder for me I guess #like not even among fundamentalists like just regular Catholics I’ve had a pretty liberal upbringing re faith. it’s just wild to me #to see the differences of worldview #and even non religion stuff was pretty liberal overall despite living in pretty red area. idk it’s just wild how different life can be

Another thing that annoys me: people love to blame individuals on their lack of willpower, laziness, determination, etc. if they’re fat. But the explosion in global obesity rates in the last few decades isn’t caused by people all of sudden becoming lazy and losing all their willpower. Our food environment has changed to highly processed food that causes a lot of people to gain weight, along with social forces that drive us to eat that food (like our culture of speed, or prices of food). People have always been people, but our food isn’t the same. The current problem with obesity is a population-level one, not an individual one, but people looove to blame individuals so they feel a sense of superiority. Blame food companies and capitalism if you actually care about health, you’ll get a lot more bang for your buck.

#tw food #also imo genetics doesn’t really affect your weight that much but instead I think it affects how your brain processes food #like I feel like there’s some wiring shit going on that makes some people more prone to putting on weight #like someone could eat a donut that’s 500 cals and register it as such but someone else’s brain might register it as only 250 #and like some people can forget to eat and not think about food that much and it’s kind of a chore but for other people #(like me) they’re hungry almost all the time and think about food and love eating food. like there’s gotta be some brain shit going on #there. like I ate every 30 mins as a baby and was a chubby kid but my brother and sister were scrawny kids #and I LOOVED sugar as a kid but they were normal about it #and with my aunts and uncles on both sides you get some that are skinny always have been and others that are chubby/fat #i feel like it’s gotta be like a hair color gene. different siblings have different hair colors but same genetics #so like we can have the same genetics but different brain wiring around food processing #and different brain food processing makes you more susceptible to weight gain especially in this day and age of hyper processed everything #whereas things that aren’t processed I feel like the different brain wiring systems process food more similarly #like even on this low processed low sugar diet I���m on I still think about food a lot and am hungry but I do believe I’m eating fewer #calories than before because I feel like Whole Foods allow my brain to more accurately process how many calories I’m eating and so it knows #it’s getting enough. this isn’t even about food bulk like I think even if the food isn’t as bulky it recognizes the calories better #like my brain knows the difference between me eating a shit ton of broccoli and getting 200 calories vs. me eating a smaller amount of #broccoli roasted with olive oil. like it knows it’s getting more calories in less density but it doesn’t recognize a 200 calorie granola #bar as such #calorie tw #ya know? ya know
