Part 2 Ecto hits the fan

While Tim found the hornet nest that would cause the JL to be up in arms ready to attack the United States government . There was a town in the west of Huntington ky on the ohio side of the river in Amity Park. The young King was looking up at the night sky he was floating high enough that most Ecto weapons wont hit him and if any GIW had a jet packs he would hear them coming with enough time to get away.

He had just turned 16 today and Clockwork has finally told him that he was now the king of the infinite realm. Things were going to happen soon and fast the realms themselves were gearing for war. If things didn’t change soon. Then he, as the king, would have to lead them to battle.

Danny closed his eyes let the light of the stars shine over him. It was getting harder to keep both the humans and ghosts safe from the GIW. They didn’t care who they hurt Star and Wes were still in the hospital from when a stray shot from agent O nearly killed them. If Danny had been a second late they would’ve been crushed by the tree Agent O had shot down. As it was Wes had a broken arm and Star had broken 4 ribs while both of them had a concussion.

Last year his entire class had discovered his identity after an incident with Vlad. They had all started to help him because members of team Phantom. His parents had interrupted Boxy’s and Lunch Lady’s bonding ceremony and now admitted that ghosts were sentient and not all ghosts were evil. He finally told him that he was a halfa two months ago so things were going well at the home front at least.

While his personal life was getting better it didn’t change the fact that he was not ready to be a king and he didn’t want to go to war. Phantom opened his eyes looking at a satellite and wondering if it was the Famous watchtower. Most of the tower had tried to contact the JL many times his first year as a hero. They had thought that the first time was a prank call and by the next call the GIW had started to put up an informal barricade. No other calls had gotten through.

Tucker had hacked their system and found out that by the end of the first year. No information about the ghost were available to anyone outside of Amity and anyone who was in Amity was heavily edited to the rest of the world Amity Parker’s didn’t exist. Danny’s first thought was to fly up to the watchtower himself and tell them what was happening. Sam had stopped him while Amity wasn’t public knowledge the Anti-Ecto acts were publicly available. This either meant they knew and agreed with them or they didn’t know and we’re being kept in the dark. Now he couldn’t leave even if he wanted to it was too dangerous for his people for him not to be around.

His ghost senses went off and he sighed. His rouges had been getting better at not being destructive but The GIW were also out. He looked down to see Ellie running from the GIW. protective rage thrummed through his core

Not My Daughter

He took off like a shot his core screamed as he saw Ellie take a shot to the back. Ectoplasm seeping down her back as she was still trying to get away.

“Papa!” She cried out as she saw him coming.

Dani now called Ellie had finally stabilized and had created a parent- child bond with him. He could feel the echo of pain from that bond.

“Ellie” he cried out looking at the GIW he noticed the had a net. “Ellie look out” he pushed her out of the way the net wrapped around him and a high electric current went through the net. The last thing he saw before passing out was Wulf grabbing Ellie and taking her to safety

I'm drunk and I have some thoughts on this.

@alteredphoenix I completely agree! The ice core is amazing and I love it for him-

But!

It has never really made sense to me, nothing about Danny screams ice or cold, I get that it's also a major factor in his ghost sense but man they missed hard, his character (to me) shows warmth and energy.

So... looking Into what Ice and cold can represent in media,

This one sort of fits, being a halfa is new territory, for both him and the ghost zone. Him falling into his powers and discovering new things. All uncharted, new.

Rigidity and stillness... Not so much, Dannys life takes off in so many new directions, there isn't a standstill in his life and he definitely isn't devoid of sentiment. If anything he has more, he's using everything he has just to save people, because it's the "right" thing to do. He has so many emotions and thoughts on all this new information he is being exposed to, processing so many new things.

Absent of hate, yeah I see that, true hate? That's something I think takes a lot for Danny to feel, along with wrath.

This one fits extremely well, Danny has to be really mentally unwell after everything he's been through, he's around his parents that are constantly spouting how much they hate his kind and what they want to do to them. Lack of love? I'm sure he's feeling that, ik I would be. But it also doesn't fit because he has the love of most people in his life, his friends and Jazz, even his parents (albeit half the time) I think it's a huge part of the show how much love he is surrounded with, their friendship is a huge part of it. Jazz accepting him and him accepting Dani, there isn't a lack of love.

(I haven't watched the show in a hot minute tho)

Death, absolutely, he's dead. He's surrounded by death and other dead people.

I don't see Dannys character of one of hatred or destruction, Dan. Sure, but we're talking about Danny.

But most of these aren't in the show, they don't dive into it and so it comes off as extremely out of place. It's not like it makes no sense, him having ice powers was never something I thought needed to be changed, I still don't, it does make me think about why he does have an ice core though when electricity was right there.

Now here's my own thoughts on electricity and how that would have worked.

He died surrounded by electricity and ectoplasm, he can use ecto energy so it makes sense that he would also be able to use electricity. Vald isn't shown to use an ice core so it can't be that it because he’s half dead, there isn't a sold reason as to why it can't be electric. (I wish the show went into more details about cores)

Electricity to me shows warmth and power, Danny is shown to be powerful, he is a newly formed ghost and he manages to beat multiple strong ghosts that have been around for way longer than him. I took that as him being extremely powerful, he is also shown to be compassionate and caring. He's a good person with a good heart, being dead and warm doesn't go hand in hand but I don't think that matters all that much.

He's always moving and flowing, both with his movements in fights and his opinions and values. He's a growing teenage boy and is learning new things about himself and the world, ghosts and the zone included, he's growing and lighting a light in the kids of Amity. Sparking change for ghosts and painting them in a new light for humans. He's both a ray of hope for the citizens he's protecting and the ghosts he helping, almost like a new era, like when we discovered electricity and it changed our daily lives.

He's also dangerous, and deadly.

One wrong move and he could end a life, end whole cities (as shown in The Ultimate Enemy) much like one wrong move with electricity and you're left injured or dead.

Overall electricity is good and it helps us everyday but it can also cause serious harm and I think that suits Danny so well, him being afraid of what he can do with his powers after the whole Dan scare, the warmth he brings Amity and the zone, it fits him perfectly imo.

And them there's the angst of having a power that literally killed him, that would be terrifying.

Danny Phantom HeadCannons

I have a lot of ideas for Danny Phantom but no ability to organize them. Formatting might be off since im on mobile. Enjoy!

(Note: it's been years since I watched the show itself so most of what I know is based off of fan content and vague recollections from when I was 10)

• Ectoplasm is highly reactive. It freezes and burns easily and quickly. It bonds to organic and inorganic matter before quickly dispersing. The best way to stabilize the bond amd make it permanent is with a catalyst like an electric shock or chemical agent like that which is used in soda.

• The development of cores in ghosts is a means to utilize this. Cores process materials that may interact with ectoplasm and influence the behavior of the material. They contain the information needed to form a ghost and keep them functioning. Cores are simular to nuclei or the nucleus in organisms in that every ghost has one.

The simplest of ghosts/ecto-entities are cores surrounded by a thin layer of ectoplasm that reacts to their environment. The more complex the ghost the better control they'll have over their ectoplasm. An example of this in a comparison would be: a Will-o'-Wisp vs Spectra.

• Neither Dani or Vlad are true halfas like Danny is. As in neither is a true 50/50 split.

Vlad is a more human than ghost. A 55/45 split (though I'd reckon its closer to 60/40). Yes, he got hit in the face with the portal but he wasn't absolutely drenched and surrounded in it. He didn’t die and be reborn in it like Danny was. His half-death was slow, only taking place after he was out of the portal itself. Not quite spreading fast enough to leave him a straddling the line between life and death rather than tiptoe-ing just beside it.The veil tied into his hair like ribbons.

Danielle, however, was born in death and pushed into life. It's why she and all the other clones were so unstable without the proper DNA adjustments. She's made out of ectoplasm, she's not supposed to be alive. She's split closer to 45/55, with ghost being more dominant. Her split is a bit more unstable, wanting to lean further and further into the ghost half but meaning she just turns into non

-sentient puddle of ectoplasmic goop. She'd need to undergo procedures atleast once a year to re-stabilize her. She circles the line but is never quite able to touch it without crossing too the otherside.

• Danny died in the portal, in the veil. He was born in there too. He was immersed completely in death and grasping life between burnt, infant hands. The veil is where his grave lies, it is his birthplace. The Old One. The universe reached out and said that one is ours. He will have death and life and be everything in between. Liminal child. Veil Guardian. Little Prince. Ours.

• Danny would've died from hypothermia, if the electrocution didn't get him first.

The ghost zone is cold. Irrespective of small area's of warmth or extreme heat, it's possible to get frostbite within seconds if you aren't ecto-contaminated or have some resistance to extreme climates. The temperature is one of the reasons the Fentons deemed the spector speeder necessary to travel the ghost zone rather than just going into the zone with jet packs and carry-on bags of equipment.

Danny got hit with it full force, wearing only a hasmat suit. The cold would've killed him if the electricity hadn't gotten a chance.

The Uno Reverse Adoption Saga Comments Q&A

I’m so sorry I took so long :(

questions and answers below the line

Firstly: Things I clarified and feel could have caused some confusion:

Clarification 1: I do take suggestions! So long as no one is rude I love hearing other people’s thoughts/ideas/feedback/speculations/etc. ^_^

Clarification 2: The trio are all halfas. How? Why? What am I basing their abilities off of? Go read Third Time by DarkNympha, I genuinely cannot write anything better than that to capture the astoundingly awesome ideas and emotions than they did. I tried to write my halfa trio as close to how they were depicted there as possible because it is such a work of art. 20/10 would recommend!

Secondly, Questions:

1 Q: How did the trio die?

A: See 10 Q or refer to Clarification 2 :)

2 Q: What was the Scramble Incident?

A: A plot device. The scrambled tech is a challenge for the trio and it does indirectly cause a lot of opportunities/problems I can capitalize on in the story. Currently, fleshing out the incident over time and defeating the scrambler is planned be sort of like a “look how everyone’s changed” deal.

3 Q: Sam and Tucker have mechanical parts integrated to their ghost forms- do they get special functions?

A: Yep! Sam’s camera can take a picture of a person and the picture it shows is of their death! If it is a place it will show who or whatever died their last. She can control it to some degree by filtering out certain kind of death, like if she only wanted to see victims of drowning at a place, or if she only wanted info on cats that have died recently instead of whatever has died recently in general. They mostly used the camera in the scant old, unsolved cases to help some ghosts find peace (No one really gets murdered in Amity now a day so its old cases).

Tucker’s PDA is a living extension of himself and so it can’t really be hacked since he can just adjust things on the fly. Anything he has on his PDA is something he can remember. Say he used his PDA and texted someone a month ago- he’d remember the conversation clearly. Additionally he doesn’t have to focus as much as other ghosts to overshadow tech since the PDA acts as a catalyst (in a sense). I haven’t planned out the details of Tucker’s PDA as much as I have Sam’s camera as the camera becomes important sooner rather than later. Don’t be surprised if I tweak what the PDA can do ;)

4 Q: Has Jason mentioned Sam to anyone from the family yet? The Anti Ecto Acts seem like something Batman should know about.

A: He hasn’t! He looked through the acts, read the Fenton’s ‘research’ and realized that he fits the description of a violent non-feeling (he only really expresses anger or irritation these days) ghost pretty well. He doesn’t trust the others, especially Bruce, to see that ‘research’ and still think of him as a person. He’s not going to risk subjecting the trio to Batman either. It gets worse once he has access to the Amity side of the web and reads whatever bs the GIW has been spewing. It’ll get better though

5 Q: Danny has an ice core, so what cores do Sam and Tucker have?

A: I’ve combined strong electricity and fire into a plasma core, and that is what Tucker has. Sam has an earthy leaning nature core. Bonus info- Vlad has either a frail plasma core or a strong combustion nature core, Dani has an aqueous leaning nature core, and Clockwork has a temporal core.

6 Q: How old is everyone?

A: The trio are 16 and that makes Jazz 19 as she is 2 ish years older than them. Jason is legally 26, and I know that he was dead for 4 years so he’s arguably 22. He and everyone else considers him 26 in story though. I haven’t decided on anyone else’s ages as of yet but Damian is probably going to be 14 because Jason needs more crises for me to address later on.

7 Q: Are the Mansons/Jason worried that Sam is gone?

A: Addressed in the last 2 chapters! Directly: Jason was worried and now he’s… still worried. Indirectly: The Mansons, and the other party guests, are unconscious/unaware and are being carted off to hospitals. This’ll come up later.

8 Q: Is this on AO3?

9 Q: Sam is Jewish. Why are her parents so concerned with Christmas?

A: This is less about religion and more about influence! They worry about the Christmas Gala because it’s a prestige thing to be invited and they care about their image too much not to go. It can be seen as a snuff if you don’t go and then Upperclass Politics Occurs. Additionally it’s a great time to socialize and do fancy rich people connections stuff. So yeah, their approach is based more the social aspect of the party than a religious one.

10 Q:

Referring to this I assume: “People who died with conviction strong enough to become an obsession or who died traumatically enough to became ghosts did so with fully matured cores.”

A: When I wrote that I was focusing on how someone died and the events leading up to their death in my mind. For example, if someone was convinced they were being stalked for days beforehand and then is murdered they might have more emotional buildup than someone who gets murdered suddenly out of the blue. I feel like there would be a limited window after a person dies that outside events could still impact if they become a ghost- like if the murderer from the previous scenario hid the body after doing the deed the person might gather more ectoplasm and linger because they want their body to be found (more emotions basically).

The death of the trio is the portal accident but Sam and Tucker got hit. I used Third Time as the basis for the trio (I highly recommend that read, I enjoyed it a ton). There are differences in abilities but for the most part I yoinked the fic as the background for the trio. I just… I did try to write a one shot in the same vein and then later when I was working out the details for the Halfa Trio I found myself just regurgitating Third Time in various ways. DarkNymfa knocked the ball out of the park. I just can’t do better than the original.

As far as Jason and his resurrection goes, I have not yet worked everything out and don’t want to say much on what I have decided on as that mystery is something that can act as a great tool to move the plot forward. Mysteries aren’t fun if they are figured out too quickly.

11 Q: Is Scarecrow a ghost?

A: Nope! He is liminal and the reason the trio mistook him for a ghost (besides his ghostly appearance) was that Jason, who was in the attic below them, triggered their ghost senses. They realized their mistake when Scarecrow/Crane didn’t fight Batman like a ghost would’ve. No intangibility, telekinesis, etc.

And that’s all. I’m sorry that some of these have been sitting in the comments for for months ^_^’

Hi! I decided to collect my headcanons that (will) appear within my au/stories.

(list is under the cut because it could contain spoilers for a work I'm slowly re-sharing again — see Ao3 — but in case someone is already familiar with the story, then you can peek :) )

part 1: about hybrids, halfas and cores

- - -

Danny is a halfa — half-ghost, half-human — but collectively every part-ghost being is called 'hybrid'. Vlad in this aspect is not a halfa (close to it, but not a halfa). Though, during the story-line Vlad believes they are the same — not familiar with the phrase 'halfa' either. But he learns that actually they are different.

In case of a halfa, separating the two halves are fatal. With no fitting human base to attach to, the ghost half fades away, the human half dies in agony. (For any other hybrid who are closer to human, than ghost, the separation wrecks the remained human part, slowly killing it.)

Perfect merge could happen in case of two halfas. (Now, do the Maths...)

(I'm skipping a detail here because that part is not written yet in the story at all - last chapter, I mean.)

Any ghost hybrid is more sensitive to emotions — thus stronger than any ghosts. When something affects them, it affects the core too (consider here, the explosion and any highly emotional case).

For a halfa the two sides live in balance, so then refusing one part is damaging the other side — either slowly killing the human side, or wrecking the core (which can make it change, by the way).

Having a 'core' is only comes up later. Vlad knew that there was some sort of energy source for ghost, but realizing that this source is a 'core', similar to a human being's heart came up when he has deeper began to work on his project (as in, recreating Daniel).

In the story when Danny is overwhelmed, he unaware summons core-energy and his ice powers — though not consciously or grasping what it is (he only later understands it — see the episode with Frostbite)

Danny's core is ice-based, Vlad's like electricity and Dan has a fire core.

Other ghost hybrids: Valerie is closer to human (not as much a ghost hybrid as Vlad is), she effects electricity (see second suit and the case with Technus). Dani's closer to be a ghost (as she was never a human), her core is very close to pure ecto-plasm and ecto-energy.

As Danny's and Dan's core-energy is the exact opposite of the other, they can hurt the other badly — probably even damaging and destroying the other's core. Also, beyond the general uncomfortability within them, their core-difference makes them all the time feel tensed around the other — having opposite aura.

One of the things I've seen maybe two or three times as I explore the Phandom is halfa! Valerie Gray. And at least one of those was supposing along the following lines:

Valerie's nanotech(?) suit was made/modified by Technus and might therefore constitute as ghost tech(its been forever since I've watched the show, don't quote me on canon stuff)

The suit nanites are inside her body when not in use

The suit has a link to her brain in order to respond to mental commands

The suit is NANITES which means it is small enough to interact with her biology on just about any level, potentially even down to atomic

So maybe being so thouroughly integrated with ghost technology made her technically a halfa and over time the exposure gradually changed her enough that it is no longer technical.

And personally I find this to be a very interesting concept. The main thing I'd tweak is that when I previously saw it, it had the change happening over the course of years.

I would stretch it out to decades.

I don't really have a ton of reason to why, other than simply being an interesting concept to explore. How much could change without her realizing? Especially as such a slow transition? How much would she be willing to attribute to the suit's advanced tech that she doesn't really understand? What would it take to finally clue her in? What sort of powers might she have as a halfa in addition to the tech abilities?

Some thoughts on these below

She grows and changes, but not as much as she'd expect. At 42 she still looks and feels (and maybe even acts) 24. She figures she's just aging gracefully.

Especially when using the suit, she finds she has exceptional strength, agility, endurance, and healing. She figures it's her excellent workout routine, healthy living, and the suit tech

Assuming she still actively uses the suit for one reason or another (still hunting ghosts, Vigilanteing in other ways, fun, lots of possibilities)maybe some ghost powers start popping up (intangibility, invisibility, ecto rays, etc.) and she just figures that it is previously unknown abilities of the suit's advanced tech

Maybe these abilities start popping up when she isn't actively using the suit and she waves it off because the suit is nanotech after all

Maybe she isn't still actively using the suit, but hasn't gotten rid of it because, uh.. how? And also why bother? And this stuff starts happening (I imagine she would be a lot quicker on the uptake in this situation)

Maybe one day, whether she hasn't used the suit in years or was flying around in it just the night before, when she activates the suit, instead of the usual method, a ring of light expands horizontally from her gut, then separates into two traveling up and down in a visual sequence that is.. familiar. One she recognizes from Dani (and maybe Danny depending on your timeline)

I imagine one of the major powers she'd get would be some level of technopathy, or at least improved ability to interface with electronics

Maybe she'd develop an electric core?

What would this mean for her in terms of ghost society?

Would Technus be somehow related to her, since it was his tech?

With so much time having passed, how does that affect how she reacts to these developments?

How does all this change if it's a crossover au, like DC or something?

Just some fun thoughts and ponderances.

(Not) Alone- Chapter 4

Summary: Consumed with worry and scared after watching Dani almost die, Danny begs her to come home with him and meet Jazz. He wants to see her safe and happy and taken care of more than anything. An important reveal also weighs heavy on him – Dani isn’t the only living clone… and the other is him. He needs to tell her the truth; maybe that will convince her to agree to the idea of telling his parents. And she'll stay in Amity Park with him, where he'll never have to worry if she's safe ever again.

Meanwhile, Dani has mixed feelings. Still reeling from the loss of her clone siblings, Danny’s unexpected worry and care make her uncomfortable. And her own guilt… she hurt him and helped get him kidnapped twice. How can he care about a mistake like her? But having clean clothes and a bed is wonderful. And things aren’t as simple as she thinks.

Will Dani accept the help she needs and let herself be loved? Or will she push Danny and Jazz away and run again?

Note: Here's the new chapter! Sorry it's a bit late; the weekend was busy but a lot of fun (D&D and a Red Concert! 😍). Then I went back to work on Monday and they're back to trying to kill me with stress. 😭 I'm applying for other jobs and already have got an interview so hopefully I'll be leaving soon. Pray for me, friends. 🥺

Over an hour later, her brother finished explaining.

“So let me make sure I’ve got this straight.” Dani’s brow furrowed. “Vlad made Tiny-you overshadow Danny-you. There was a weird memory-sharing, dreamscape thing. You didn’t wanna leave. You were destabilizing and…” The girl swallowed, paling for a second. “You melted while still possessing… also you?”

“It’s easier if you just use the names.” Danny(?), Dami(?) added helpfully.

Dani pressed her hands together, fingers pointed up as if praying. “So… Tiny… Dami melted while he was still overshadowing Danny….” She moved her hands apart, vaguely miming a spherical shape. “Core combining, merging, fusing thing happened.” She balled her fists together before pointing. “And that’s where you come in? Because you’re both of them?”

The boy gave a nod. “That’s right.”

Dani also nodded. Then her eyes widened, realizing. “That’s why you were being so weird after breaking out of that chamber thing!”

Her brother blinked once, as if just realizing she’d been there. “What do you mean?”

“You were moving kinda jerkily, like you couldn’t get your limbs to work right. Or you were dizzy or something.” She frowned. “And your eyes were blank and glassy, like you weren’t all there.” Dani shrugged, deceptively casual. “I thought Vlad just shocked you real bad.”

“Well, that electricity sure wasn’t fun.” He smiled uncomfortably. “But yeah. There was a lot going on here.” He motioned vaguely to his head and chest. Then he frowned. “I still don’t remember it all that well.”

“I’m sorry.” Dani sympathized. “It sounds like you had an awful time, not even realizing what happened at first.” (How did he not realize it though, being changed like that? ) “And the power flare-ups. And the figuring it out yourself. And that’s where Frostbite comes in, right?”

The boy nodded. “He confirmed what I had already figured out but… didn’t want to admit to myself. He…” A guilty blush. “He helped me out a lot, with really getting all this- who and what I am now- and learning how to be okay with it.” He swallowed. “It took me a while to tell Jazz, Sam, and Tucker though. And that was rough… but we’re all good now.”

There was a significance, a deep-seated pain to those words. It squeezed at the clone girl’s core.

“And you’re okay too?” She asked.

“Yeah.” He smiled softly, some of the weight lifting. “I’m really happy you’re here.”

“Me too.” Dani reached forward, hugging him again.

The two siblings shared the embrace for a long moment. Then after a few breaths, the boy pulled away.

His brow furrowed, worriedly searching her face. “Are you okay with all this? With… me?”

“Of course!” The girl didn’t even hesitate, grinning. “I mean, I don’t really get it. Like at all. Everything you just told me is crazy…”

For a moment, his eyes fell, more than a hint of alarmed disappointment.

Dani pointedly shook her head. “I believe you! It’s just…. It all sounds so insane. I can’t wrap my head around it. At least not yet.”

For a second, the girl’s lips pursed, considering the situation. It sounded impossible. She didn’t understand it at all, despite that hour-long explanation. Or… well, she had understood the words, the general flow of the story. But the details? Fitting what had happened into her mind, her map of reality? (Would she ever be able to?)

Her brother nodded at her words. “Jazz and my friends didn’t really get it at first either. I think they’re still getting there too.” He half-shrugged, blushing.

The clone girl smiled softly; that made her feel better. “What matters is, you’re still here. You’re alive. You’re not melting. You’re stable! We’re both stable!” She grinned, spreading her arms. “And you can actually talk now!”

“Oh yeah?” The boy grinned, wrapping an arm around her. “So I get to torture you with my puns and you won’t complain?” He furiously nuggied her head.

“No, not puns!” The girl complained dramatically, trying to squirm away.

Grinning, her brother’s wiggling fingers went for her armpit. “What was that?”

Dani giggled, body twitching from the assault. “No… no puns!”

“But I thought you were tickled pink, finally hearing my boo-tiful voice.”

“Stop! Stop!” She panted out through her laughter. “Dami, stop!”

The boy also laughed. “Come on! That was spook-takular. I think it ghosts without saying.”

The girl’s chest heaved, unable to word a reply.

“See, I’ve left you speechless.”

Dani flailed, her own wiggling fingers seeking out the other clone’s sensitive underarm.

“Hey. Hey!” Dami complained, falling into his own giggles.

Quickly, the two half ghosts fell into a pile of limbs and laughter.

“It sounds like you two are having fun.” Jazz’s voice cut through the scene.

The tickling stopped at that, both half-ghosts panting for a few seconds before sitting up.

“I wondered when you were going to get up.” The boy rolled his eyes teasingly. “Thought you were going to sleep all day.”

“As if.” The red-head rolled her own eyes, going to sit on the couch near the pair.

“Seriously though.” The jovial tone dimmed. “I’m surprised you didn’t hear our… discussion.” Dami’s eyes flickered to his clone sister meaningfully.

Dani blushed, a seed of guilt sprouting in her core. Oh yeah… she had started this entire thing with yelling at him.

For a moment, something (almost guilty?) flickered in Jazz’s eyes but it was quickly gone. The older girl nodded. “So, you told her about…” A significant pause.

“About being Dami. Yeah, she knows.” Her brother nodded.

“And you took it well?” The older girl’s gaze fell on Dani, more than a hint of hope in her eyes.

With another blush, the clone girl nodded. “After he explained everything.” Her eyes narrowed slightly. “You know, you should have led with that last night. It definitely would have made things easier.” (Maybe she wouldn’t have been so grumpy about him worrying about her and about accepting help. Maybe she wouldn’t have gotten so angry about him calling himself her brother; he actually was after all.)

The older two traded meaningfully concerned looks. Dani’s insides twisted. Had she said something wrong?

Jazz leaned forward, a strangely deliberate gentleness to her voice. “How about we make some breakfast? Then we can go do something fun together.”

“Breakfast!” That got Dani’s interests. “Can we have pancakes?” Her eyes lit up, already making her way to the kitchen.

(That segway felt like a diversion but Dani wasn’t going to say anything. Who was she to refuse food?)

“Yeah, pancakes sound great.” Dami enthused. “Chocolate chips?”

“Yes, we’ve got chocolate chips.” Jazz laughed.

Danny and Jazz made pancakes for breakfast, Dani’s excited eyes on their backs. Part of that excitement was because of the food but the half ghost knew… it was also something else.

Compared to his friends and older sister who hadn’t talked to him for days after he told them, Dani took the secret well. Surprisingly well…. There was a reason for that. He saw it in the way she looked at him, in what she said after their conversation.

“Are you okay with all this? With… me?” “Of course!”

Dani hadn’t thought about her response at all. She hadn’t even hesitated.

“I mean, I don’t really get it. Like at all. Everything you just told me is crazy…”

Danielle didn’t really understand. Of course she didn’t. And he didn’t expect her to; it had taken him weeks to even begin to understand what he was now and he was experiencing it from the inside.

But…

“What matters is, you’re still here. You’re alive. You’re not melting. You’re stable! We’re both stable!” She grinned, spreading her arms. “And you can actually talk now!”

Damian, Tiny, her littlest brother. That was who she saw when she looked at him. And…. Danny was surprisingly okay with that. Part of it was…. It was nice for that part of him to be wanted. But a greater portion….

After telling his friends and sister, he had been so concerned with them seeing and accepting both parts of him, all of him. Not just the Danny they were used to, but the clone too. And most importantly…. The new, complete self that he was. Those months ago, that had been so new. He had only just begun realizing and accepting that he wasn’t just the sum of his parts but greater, his own person. Now though….

He knew who he was. Danny wouldn’t be shaken by Danielle seeing him as Tiny. That was what she needed, who she needed for now. She needed to be happy that one of her clone brothers was still alive, right here with her. Learning all those other implications, getting to know him as the new person he was… that could come later.

For now, he wouldn’t say anything. He would take it slow. He would let himself just be Dami, for her.

With those thoughts dismissed, Damian went back to making breakfast with his older sister.

“You know what we need? Bacon!” Excited at the thought, the boy opened the fridge and reached for the meat drawers.

“Wait!” Jazz shouted, eyes wide. “It’s contam-”

Dami pulled open the container to sudden growls. Something ugly green-red-white wiggled through the clear plastic, lunging for his fingers. “Never mind!” He tried to slam the drawer closed. But the strips of meat sprang up, wedging in the opening. “Oh no, you don’t!”

The bacon hissed without mouths, tiny red eyes blinking open. The boy shot at the meat…

“Shit!” The blast of fire impacted.

The strips shrieked.

“What did you do?!” The red-head lunged for the fridge, beating at the flames with a kitchen towel.

“It was supposed to be an ectoblast!”

The meat moaned pathetically, still on fire.

“Make them stop!” Dani complained, hands over her ears.

Then the fire alarm started screaming.

“Just close the fridge!” Dami shoved his older sister out of the way.

The door slammed closed, cutting off the pitiful whimpers. Jazz stomped to the fire alarm, swiping the broom from its place against the wall. She jabbed the handle up, hitting the button to turn the siren off.

Blessed quiet fell over the room. The boy’s shoulders relaxed, smiling sheepishly. “Well, that’s not how I’d been planning to cook the bacon….”

A beat of silence. Then….

Dani started giggling. “You… you shot it, you really just shot it….” The sound was almost hysterical, like this was the funniest thing she’d ever seen.

The older halfa couldn’t help but laugh with her. “I was trying to ectoblast it, not… not shoot it with fire…”

Even Jazz joined with her own eyeroll. “Little brother, I swear….”

Dami bent over, taken by the ridiculousness of the situation. That stupid contaminated bacon… and he’d really just accidentally fire-blasted it. What even was his life?

The three siblings laughed together for a good minute, all else forgotten. Until…

The smell of burning, the fire alarm shrieked again.

“The pancakes!”

After Jazz rushed back to the stove, the boy hesitantly opened the fridge. To his relief, the fire was out, the plastic walls of the drawer none the worse for wear. But the contents- luckily just the bacon- was burnt to a crisp, and not the crisp one normally wanted in bacon. Left in the bacon’s place were two moaning blob ghosts which Dami quickly sucked up in a Fenton thermos. Dani helped him clean up the ashes, leaving no trace of the fire he’d caused.

Ten minutes later, the pancakes were ready and the three siblings sat down to eat.

The two half ghosts dug into their stacks.

“So good.” The younger girl happily moaned through a mouthful.

“Yeah.” The boy agreed, having finished his first. “Sorry you…uhh… lost one because of bacon-shenanigans.” He said sheepishly.

Jazz rolled her eyes, the picture of faux-annoyance. “How did you manage to accidentally fire-blast them?”

“Hey! It’s an easy mistake. I’ll have you know…”

The two squabbled for a bit, Dani joining in once she’d finished half her stake.

“Do you normally have to fight the food in the fridge?” The clone girl asked with a laugh.

The two teens looked at each other. Dami shrugged. “Only sometimes.”

Dani raised an eyebrow, putting another piece of pancake in her mouth. “Do the Drs Fenton store blob ghosts in there or something?”

“It was ectoplasm samples.” Jazz corrected. “And no, they actually don’t anymore.”

The younger girl gave her a skeptical look. “Really?”

“Jazz got them to put a fridge for samples in the basement and stop putting things upstairs.” Dami clarified. “I saw them do a deep clean on the fridge too, right before they left. With real, store-bought cleaning stuff and everything.” His brow furrowed. “I figured that would work to stop making the meat bite back.”

“It looks like it didn’t stick.” Jazz frowned. “I’ll have to tell Mom. Maybe they should just get a new fridge.”

“That’s probably a good idea.” Dani eyed the appliance warily.

“Do you want to meet them?” The boy suddenly asked.

“Who?” The clone girl blinked.

“Our parents, I mean.” Her brow furrowed, like she wanted to argue, but Dami interrupted. “They’re your parents too. Biologically at least. I know they’d want to meet you, if they knew about you. And…” He poked at his last few pieces of pancake. “I’ve been trying to get them warmed up to ghosts. They’ve got a truce with Phantom now. They know that I’m good, that I’m just trying to help the town. They’ve met Cujo and Sidney. And that went well. They don’t shoot on sight anymore. I think…” He worried his lip. “I think if I told them about me being half ghost, about me being Phantom that they’d get it.” The clone-fusion secret was a whole other thing. But… “I really want to tell them.”

And tell his parents about Dani and have them meet her and ask if they would adopt his baby sister… His core squeezed. He wanted that so much, more badly than he wanted them to accept him. He wanted this house, their family to be a safe home for her. And he wanted to tell the clone girl that so badly. But…

Danielle was biting her own lip, staring down at the table with an unreadable expression. She’d closed off as soon as he’d said ‘our parents’.

Danny’s heart hurt; he felt like a hypocrite. Hadn’t he just been thinking about taking it slow and just letting Dani be happy he was alive? She’d already been visibly uncomfortable last night. Just earlier, she’d pretty much yelled at him to stop worrying about her. And now he was pushing her again….

There was a long, silent pause. Finally, Dani said. “I’ll think about it.”

Danny’s eyes widened. That was good, better than he expected. “Alright. I can live with that.” He breathed. “I won’t tell them about you unless you say it’s okay.”

Still, there was a knot in his stomach. It would have to be good enough.

An awkward atmosphere lingered as the three finished their food but slowly it ebbed.

“What do you want to do today, Dani?” Jazz asked, looking at the other girl.

The younger blinked, surprised. “I can pick?”

The red-head nodded, giving her a smile. “Anything you want.”

“As long as it’s in town or not too far away.” The boy added, then with a nervous cough. “Or too expensive. I uh… don’t have that much money.”

“Speak for yourself, little brother.” Jazz raised a brow. Then giving the girl a wink. “I’ve been saving up just for this occasion.”

“Really?” Dani blinked for a moment, all the more surprised. Then her brow furrowed, considering. After a long minute…. “Can we go to the mall?"
