You remembered exactly what you thought of before the lights inside you dimmed.

I don’t want to die.

And you hadn’t. Something that had been quite a shock to you when you woke up in a dark room. The rust scrubbed from your plates, your gears and joints oiled, your battery in the middle of a long recharge. By a cable no less! You couldn’t remember the last time you had been charged by one of those instead of the wireless charging that had become common over the years.

You were alive. You had been given a second chance. And you were determined not to waste it. But that doubt lingered in you, festered like infection in an open wound. And one day, you couldn’t stop yourself from asking the question that plagued you since the day you woke up in their home.

Course i treat you like people.” He says, cutting open the box before pulling out the small fan. “Don’t matter that you need things like this. That your insides are different then mine. You’re a person all the same. And I'd bet my last pound that, if such a thing as souls exist, you got one just like me. One much shinier and brighter, all good and perfect. I just know it.” He tells you, a bright sunshine-like smile crossing his face, and you could feel your broken whirring to life as your circuits malfunctioned and started to burn molten hot, heating up your whole body until your systems had to do a mandatory shut down just to avoid melting anything. Leaving Gaz to panic and damn near tear the house to pieces looking for the tools to open you up and replace that damn fan.

Ghost

A slow blink, a tilt of the head. Cold eyes raking over you in thought. Thinking through every word meticulously, making sure nothing left his mouth until he knew exactly what he wanted to say to you. It took a few minutes, anxiety inducing silence that would have you sweating if you were capable of such a thing. Until finally, blessed finally, he graced you with a soft response.

“You are a person.” He whispered, so soft that you almost didn't hear him. He repeated it, a bit louder when you tilted your head in confusion. “You are a person. To me at least. Maybe not to all those bellends outside, but to me. I’ve seen you laugh, get upset, excited, curious. I’ve never met someone who has so much personality to them before. And it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, because they don’t know you like I do. They haven’t seen every beautiful part of you that you try to hide behind a disguise of being just a bot. I know. And I’ll make sure that you know it soon enough to, so you don’t ever ask any daft questions like that ever again.”

“Watcha mean, Love?” Soap will ask, head tilted in utter confusion. Like you just asked him something in gibberish, brows scrunched together and mouth twisted in a little pout. “Tha’s a dumb question. You are a person. Course I treat you like one.” He says, shrugging his shoulders before turning back to your dismantled arm piece, adjusting some of the little screws and oiling the gears. It was almost funny how he could say that so casually, as if he wasn’t fixing your mechanics right this instant, his fingers tenderly stroking over metal and silicon, like he was scared he might hurt you if he pressed too hard. You didn’t even get the chance to protest his statement before he was opening his mouth again, effectively cutting you off. “I dinnae wanna hear anymore ah that talk, Lovey. You’re a person, my person. Simple as that.” He says, turning to give you a soft smile, hand reaching out to touch your cheek. His hands calloused and rough, but oh so warm. You could feel your motors backfiring, sensors heating up beneath his touch. And that grin on his face took a mischievous turn when he noticed, leaning in to whisper in your ear. “Glad we had that chat then, Love.”

Clay, Jax, Opie, Bobby, Tig, Piney and Juice all arrived back at the Clubhouse, signaling for the others to join them in Chapel.

Happy and Chibs left the shop to follow. Inside, Clay hit the gavel to get started.

“Chibs, Hap, you guys remember Piney’s daughter (Y/N)?”

“Aye.” Chibs replied. Happy nodding.

“She’s back. Settling down back in Charming. She’s opening a little roadside bar on the outskirts of town. I want a protection detail on her so no one messes with her. She’ll be living there, too. Said there’s an apartment type house out back.” Piney said to the group.

“Agreed.” Everyone said.

“What cut will we take for the protection?” Clay asked.

Opie and Jax scoffed. “Really, Clay? She’s family. You expect her to pay us a fee for watching over her?”

He shrugged. “This Club is in the business of protection.”

“Then take my part. I’ll pay to protect my daughter.”

“No disrespect, Pres, but I don’t feel right asking her to do that. Like Jax said, she’s family.” Tig chimes in.

“Put it to a vote. Protection for (Y/N) free of charge?” Clay asked.

All hands went up. He sighed. He slammed the gavel down. “Any new business?”

“Things with the Irish are on track. All looks well for awhile longer.” Chibs said.

“Books are straight. Still in the black for a few more months.” Bobby replied.

Clay nodded. “Good. Meeting adjourned.”

Opie, Jax and Juice walked to the bar where the Prospect, Half-Sack, was.

“Listen, Opie’s little sister is back. I’m going to need you to go with Juice tomorrow and give her a hand with anything she needs. She’s got crews coming in but she needs things moved out.”

“Yeah. Sure.”

“I’ll go, too. Don’t have any repairs due tomorrow.” Happy said.

“Juice, do me a favor. When you help her set up the security cameras, make sure to set some up around the back facing her apartment. I want to make sure she stays safe.” Opie got close.

“Of course. I’ll see what system she wants and set it all up. I’ll make a backup location for all feeds to my laptop here, just in case.”

“One more thing. The two of you are close in age. Besides my wife and kids, she’s everything to me. Don’t try any funny business with her. Understand?”

Juice nodded. “Yeah. Got it.”

Jax stood behind them smirking. Opie slapped the Puerto Rican’s back. “Good. Now, I’ve got to get home and let Donna know to cook extra.”

As I drove to Donna and Opie’s for dinner, I couldn’t help but look around at how much things changed around Charming over the last three years. Taking note to try out the coffee shop, I turned down the little street that led to my brother’s.

As I neared the house, I seen Kenny and Ellie out front playing. When I pulled in, they instantly started yelling.

“Aunt (Y/N)!”

“We missed you!”

I hugged them both to me. “I missed you guys! My goodness y’all have grown!”

Kenny looked behind me. “Whoa. Cool car! What kind is it?”

“This my little man is a 1970 Dodge Challenger in special order Purple. My Grandpa had this restored for me for my birthday last year.”

“Can I drive it?”

“I don’t think so.”

I turned around and smiled. “Hi, Donna!”

She smiled back and held her arms out. “Hi, (Y/N). It’s good to see you again.”

“Come on. Let’s washed up. Dinner is almost ready.”

Dinner was a wonderland event. Catching up with my niece and nephew on school and sports. After dinner and dessert, I helped get Kenny and Ellie ready for bed and then joined Opie and Donna on the porch.

“It’s good to have you back. Opie hasn’t stopped smiling since he came home. Kept trying to get it out of him why but he just told me it was a surprise.”

I sat back in the rocking chair. “It’s good to be back. I can’t wait to get started on the bar tomorrow.”

“Juice will be there with Kip and Happy. Later on me and Jax will come by.”

“You still stay at home?” I asked Donna.

“Yeah. Sometimes I think about going back to work though. I usually sit here bored when Al the housework is done and kids are in school.”

I gave her a smile and leaned over. “Well, I’d like to make an offer. You can take it if you want. Discuss it with brother dearest here. I’d like to offer you a job working with me. I’d pay you $10 an hour, make your own hours around the kids. Weekends if you want and you keep all tips. Plus I have an apartment out back the kids can hang out in if you don’t have a sitter.”

She was speechless. I looked at my watch and stood. “I’ll leave you two to discuss. If you want the job, it’s yours. I’ll be up early tomorrow to get ready for everyone to show up to work. So come on by if you do.” I gave them a hug before I left, and a kiss to the side of my head from Opie.

“Thank you, sis.”

I gave him a wink before I headed off.

“Juice, we’re ready in ten.” Happy stuck his head in my dorm room.

“Yeah. Im coming.” He zipped his backpack up and slug it on his shoulder.

Juice couldn’t think of anything other than (Y/N) since he met her yesterday. His heart pounded in his chest at the thought of seeing her again. He couldn’t help but think she was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. What drew him to her the most was her curves. She had curves in all the right places and she knew how to carry herself. A smile crept on his face at the thought of spending time with her setting up her security cameras and being close to her.

It didn’t take long for the three bikers to pull up to the old bar. Juice couldn’t help but eye the car that sat out front.

“Damn. If that’s her’s, little girl has style.” Happy spoke.

“As a matter of fact, Hap, it is. A birthday gift last year from Grandfather.”

(Y/N) stood on the steps, hands on her hips. Juice’s breath caught as he looked at her. She stood there in a purple sequined tank top, blue jean shorts that showed her thick legs and biker boots. Her (y/c/h) was pulled up away from her face.

“Hey, little girl.”

She smiled as she came down the steps. “Hey, Hap. Good to see you again. It’s been ages.”

Happy nodded. She then turned her attention to Juice and Kip. “You must be the Prospect, Kip. I’m (Y/N).”

“Nice to meet you.” Kip said, hands in his pockets.

“Good to see you again, Juice.” She smiled at him.

“You, too.”

“Well, let’s get inside and get started. I got coffee and donuts inside for you guys. Let me show you two what I need done then Juice and I have some business in the office.”

I waved the guys inside and gave Happy and Kip instructions to what I needed. Before they could get started, Donna walked in.

I smiled. “Does this mean you want the job?”

“I want the job. Ope and I talked about it. Making my own hours could help and the extra money would be a plus.”

I gave her a hug. “I’m so happy.” I put my hands on her shoulders. “Now, I’ve got security business to work on. Could you keep these two in line and make sure they don’t take too many coffee breaks? I need all this cleared out so we can get repairs done.”

“You got it.” Donna put her bag on the counter and started helping Kip and Happy.

I turned to Juice. “Looks like we’re together. The office is this way. It’s big enough to store all the monitors and such. I had the best security system delivered. I just have no clue on how to set everything up.” I chuckled.

Juice chuckled and smiled. “That’s what I’m here for. I can get you set up in a jiff.”

The two of us sat for a few hours, discussing every angle inside and out where to put the cameras. One on each corner on the outside, both sides of the bar for multiple angles and facing the bathrooms and in the kitchen. Lastly, he told me my dad and brother wanted one facing my apartment. I agreed.

As I watched him put up all the cameras and angle them, me looking down at the laptop every once in awhile to make sure it was set, I couldn’t keep my eyes off of him. The way his biceps moved under his shirt and the sweat rolling off his tan skin.

“Alright. I think that does it. Let’s go take a look at all of them.” He climbed down, bringing me from my daydreaming.

We walked back into my office and he showed my how to switch the cameras and how to back them up.

“Now, this here is where all feeds are stored. I also made a backup file that goes directly to my laptop as a precaution in case something should happen. It’s always with me at the clubhouse or my place.”

I turned to him and smiled. “Thanks, Juice. I really appreciate it.”

He gave me a breathtaking smile and looked down. “No problem.”

“(Y/N)? Jax and Opie are here with the others.” Donna said from the office door.

I gave her a nod and Juice and I walked out to the main bar. Opie was unloading bags of takeout for everyone and Jax was passing out drinks.

“Well, there’s my favorite Lass!”

“Chibsy! My favorite Scotsman!”

We hugged each other tight before we all sat down to eat. Opie brought my favorite from the Chinese place and Jax remembered my favorite beer.

“So, sis, any names for this place?”

I nodded. “Pop quiz time, big bro. Let’s see if you can guess. What’s my favorite color?”

“Purple.”

“And my favorite gemstone that’s purple?”

“Amethyst.”

“Correct. Now, where is this place sitting?”

“Outer edge of Charming?” He asked questionably.

I raised my brows and waved my hands at him.

“Amethyst Edge?”

I turned to my new favorite Puerto Rican and pointed. “Brownie points to Juicy Boy! Yes. Amethyst Edge. I was approved for the name. My business license will be in soon and all I need is a fancy schmancy sign and I’ll be set.”

“I can draw you up some designs. Find one you like I got a guy who can make it.” Happy spoke up.

The rest of the day went smoothly. The guys finished getting all the old booths and tables out, the crew was halfway finished redoing the kitchen area and me and Donna worked on a menu for food and sending out an ad in the local paper for help.

The day was winding down and everyone was heading home, promises of seeing me again the next day. As I was locking the front door, I heard my name being called.

“Hey, (Y/N). Listen, if you need anything, you know, security system wise, here’s my number. Don’t be afraid to call or anything.”

I took the paper with Juice’s number on it. “Thanks. I’ll send you a text later so you can have my number, too.”

He gave me a smile that sent a shiver down my spine. I watched as he climbed on his bike and drove away. I went to my little apartment, grabbed my pajamas and showered. Once done, I laid in my bed and grabbed my phone and the slip of paper beside it.

Like. Mocking people (like myself!!!!) for struggling is gonna make me hate you. Haha homelessness. Okay do you know how traumatic it is? When you're fucking 2 years old? When you're 4? All the while being groomed by an adult man? Do you know whats its like to lose all your belongings because the cops fucking hate you and don't give them back? Do you know what its like to finally get a hotel or apartment for a month and have it be such a health hazard with mold and mushrooms growing bigger than your fist and more types of bugs than you count and having to toss out some of your few belongings because theyre infected and infested beyond repair? Haha school shootings. Cool do you know how terrifying it is to narrowly avoid the everpresent middle school gangs only for your younger sibling to be forced to be involved with a high school gang? Do you know what it's like when there's danger in getting an education and seeing the person you want to protect more than anything slip into that? It's not fucking funny when you get a text that your brother thinks he's gonna be fucking murdered after school and wants you to know that he loves you like youll never speak again? Haha dumb country bums. Okay what about when it's the people who are supposed to be your family and support and love you calling you racial slurs? What if you still kind of care about them? What about when there's fucking tornadoes near them and they live in trailers with zero support or basement or safety and they don't have access to anything else? We boycott despite not being able to afford the alternatives. There's so much I and so many other people do to fight and try to better things. Monster Hunter Tri Diary, Part 2: Day cycles & Nighttime hunt in the Moga Woods

Disclaimer: Text is paraphrased from my localization and might slightly deviate from the English version.

Moga Village (night)

Yay, we have day cycles! This is actually a feature that got scrapped in MH3U; while there were day and night versions of each map (probably a leftover from this mechanic), it was always day in Moga Village. In Tri, however, time advances in the village too, and you actually get to explore Moga at nighttime! (I believe the only previous time they tried something like this was in MH Dos, with the seasonal cycles.)

And look, fireflies! Or are those Thunder Bugs? (Given that this is Monster Hunter, probably Thunder Bugs.)

Also, there is a nighttime version of the village theme! I've never heard it before, due to there being no day/night cycle in 3U. It's a tad softer and more tranquil than the daytime version - I like it!

Chief's Son: "To restore the base camp, we need to dig new latrines, rebuilt the tent, cover the old latrines, delouse the bed..." Sounds like a really pleasant job. Might be easier to just throw the lousy bed into the trash and get a new one, though.

Okay, so the Chief’s Son tells me I have to report to him what I hunted in the forest, since he’s responsible for keeping tabs on that. Makes sense, since you kinda need to keep an eye on the monster population to prevent an imbalance in the ecosystem if you want to ensure a sustainable economy.

Actually, this reminds me... I remember there's an in-lore explanation that the Guild keeps records of the monster population in each area, to prevent certain species from going extinct and others from growing too large in number. (I think the only time they integrated this into the gameplay was in MH Dos; there was some kind of "bounty system", and the more often you hunted a certain monster, the less money you'd get for it.) So, are the reports I give to the Chief's Son sent to the Guild as well? (I suppose that would be like constant surveillance; but maybe, that's the exact intention behind it.)

At first, I thought the Jumbo Pearl might be a reference to MH Dos (since the village from that game is called Jumbo). However, after checking the Japanese item name, the kanji indicates that it's just an extraordinarily large pearl, rather than a pearl found near/associated with Jumbo Village. (Pity, though; that would've been so cool.)

Chief's Son: "Go report to my dad, will you? He LOVES reports." Okay - well, at least that shows he's taking his job seriously.

Chief: "There are no hopeless causes... Just lost confidence!" That's actually a damn good motivational quote right there.

Gossipy Lady: "It's obvious whenever the Chief is in a pensive mood. He stands at the left pier and gazes out at the sea." I wonder if there's a story behind this habit...

Guild Sweetheart: "The good news is that the Guild apparently has completely forgotten about us. So, you're not missing out on anything!" Well, I guess that's the bright side of it... xD Still, a bit odd if you consider the Guild is technically responsible for protecting the village - all they do is send one rookie hunter here and that’s it. They don’t even bother helping the villagers repairing the damage in any other way.

Outfitter: ""No weapon is perfect. Every one has its strengths and weaknesses." Maybe grandpa was right after all..." Well... A fault confessed is half redressed, or so they say. xD

The shy kid tells us about a goblin with a mask living in the Moga Woods (his older brother also says he's "constantly talking nonsense about an elf"). If my memory serves correctly, that has to be Cha-Cha.

Blacksmith: "I'm gonna to tell you - but just this once!" Except when you cycle through the dialogue by repeatedly talking to him, you can select "yes" again. xD

The Bowguns are completely different in Tri. Instead of the usual two classes (Light and Heavy Bowgun), you have to assemble your Bowgun out of individual parts (stock, frame, barrel), each influencing the stat values and overall performance. I guess this was done in an attempt to make the Bowguns more customizable, so you can have a sort of in-between as opposed to just light/heavy. I'm not a Gunner myself, but I think the idea is kinda cool; ultimately, they didn't stick with it, though.

Btw, there are some weapons that are completely missing from Tri: Dual Blades, Hunting Horn, Gunlance and Bow are all unavailable in this game (despite being available in Freedom Unite).

Also, the Switch Axe and the Long Sword are not available from the start; you have to unlock them later on (you have to do the 3-star Urgent Quest to hunt a Gobul to get access to Long Swords). I was a bit confused when I saw that I couldn't make any Long Swords, since I was sure I heard they existed in Tri. However, the selection of Long Swords in this game is very limited: Minus the weapons from online events, there are only seven Long Swords you can make in the game. That's right: seven. A bit of a bummer for me as a Long Sword main, especially since there are not even blades for every element. (There isn't a single Ice Long Sword you can forge offline.)

So, seems like I'll have to get a little creative here - I think I'll make myself a Great Sword when I get the chance, since that's a weapon I'm at least moderately accustomed to. I also might try out a Switch Axe against Gobul, since you already unlock these after the 2-star Urgent Quest. (Can't say I'm looking forward to it, though. xD)

Btw, I don't know if it's just a translation error in my localization, but when explaining weapon sharpness, the smith says orange is sharper than yellow which is sharper than green. Of course, it's the other way around, with yellow being sharper than orange and green being the sharpest. So, this is a small pitfall for anyone who might be new to the game - just wanted to mention it.

"Fuel for the furnace, chemicals for forging... All of that costs money, so you gotta pay something." I think this is the first time I've seen it mentioned that the smithies in MH are using chemicals to make weapons/armor. Guess that makes sense, since a lot of the equipment pieces are composed of both organic and inorganic materials, so it probably wouldn't hold together otherwise.

"My life's goal? To forge a weapon beyond anyone's imagination! I've tried again and again, but failed. One day, I'll succeed - just you wait!" Well, as long as you have a goal and dedication, you can achieve anything. Better luck next time! :-)

I really like the smith in general - such a lively and spry guy. ^^

What the?! How did the smartass kid get into my house? Who let you in? WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SWAMPHOUSE?!?

"Did you know you can skip conversations? That way, you can skip boring conversations with people you don't even want to listen to. Very handy!" I wish this was a feature in real life.

"But some things you'll get to hear only once. And then you'll say: "Oh no! Why did I press the cancel button? Now I can never hear this again! Buhuuuu!" Unironically me every time I want the text to scroll faster and accidentally end up missing dialogue. xD

"Oh, some conversations you can't skip, like important village info and lectures from your mom..." Pity - I'm sure everyone would appreciate the latter. xD

"Do you believe there is life on the moon?" I dunno, kid - I've never read sci-fi literature from the MH universe myself.

"Why don't hunters use their huge airships to fly to the moon? Did no one get this idea before?" Well, maybe they did - I just doubt they got very far. xD

Yay! I can actually give my Poogie a name! (Actually, I think this is the first time in the series you can do this.) Though it's curious that the list includes both male and female names - is Poogie's gender just whatever you want it to be?

The cuddle timing for the Poogie is WAY more lenient than in Freedom Unite (seriously, that was hardcore).

Moga Woods (night)

"Hello, it's me, the Chief's Son! Not Junior! Nobody calls me that!" Yep, definitely daddy issues. (Nice to see the Chief's Son inherited his dad’s telepathic skills, though.)

"Oh, nice attack! Maybe you're not such an inexperienced hunter after all..." Shit, they've caught onto my ruse - they know I'm too good to be a noob! xD

It will never not be funny to me that the "So tasty!" when you make a Well-done Steak is the only voice line they ever bothered to record for the old games. In fact, it was so important that they even recorded it in different languages. xD

I appreciate how there's a brief display of "MAX" at the end of the stamina gauge - that way, you know when you're at max stamina.

Okay, so the monster list also works differently in Tri. Instead of buying the books with the info at the item shop, you have to gather the infos yourself while being out in the field. It feels a bit like a spiritual predecessor to MH World; I guess they did this to add more to the "exploration" feeling. It's a little tricky to do though, so I understand why they got rid of it. (You have to open the monster list in the menu, point the Wiimote at the monster and then add the info to your list via drag-and-drop. I can imagine this is going to be rather difficult with large monsters, since you kinda have to pay attention that you don't die while gathering data. xD)

Honey: "Full of nutrients, but indigestible in this form." What? Last time I checked, honey was a perfectly digestible type of food. What makes MH honey different?

Okay, so I've picked up an item called "Firedouse Berry". It increases fire resistance, apparently. The logical conclusions would be that there are other berries in Tri to counter the other elements (water, thunder, ice). Either way, I've never seen these in any MH before.

I’ve always wondered what the "houses"/windows carved into the cliffs of Area 7 are. I suppose this is what the Head Farmer meant when he was saying that the statue in the cave had something to do with the "forest ruins". Is this where the ancestors of the sea people lived? If so, why are these great buildings in ruins? What brought about their demise?

You see, it's the little things that always kept me fascinated in Monster Hunter. You can find these ancient ruins in all of the old MH games, but it’s never explained who built them. It's like a dark mystery of the past, constantly looming over you - and perhaps, a silent threat that this might happen again.

It's funny how the Jaggi were my literal introduction to Monster Hunter. If I hadn't read an article about there being "raptors" in MH4U - despite the Jaggi looking more dilophosaurs with their frills (which is ironic, since they're the bird wyverns that don't spit poison) - I probably wouldn't have picked it up. xD

After playing Lies of P for so long, I have to get used to MH combat again. Although I adjusted the controls of LoP so it was basically the standard MH controls (because I literally can’t play with anything else xD), the combat itself feels very different. MH’s is a lot more mobile in comparison, involving lots of dodging and repositioning; since there’s no target lock-on (targeting for large monsters only got introduced in MH3U if I remember correctly), you can’t just lock onto your target to circle around them.

Also, I don't think there’s a pause button in Tri? A bit strange since Freedom Unite had one, but I guess you're supposed to use the Wii Home button for this.

There was a young Aptonoth in Area 1, probably the one who fled from Area 3 when I killed its parents (cool that the monsters move to other areas, though!). I briefly contemplated to let it live, but then I told myself "well, it's probably not gonna survive without its parents anyway" and did the mercy kill. (I'm such a cold-blooded murderer, guys. xD)

One thing that never fails to make me laugh is how there are wooden struts sprouting from the ground if you place the BBQ spit on uneven terrain. xD (That BBQ spit is so important, it even gains the magical ability to support itself if need be.)

So, in summary, I killed 15 Jaggi, while also gathering some stuff along the way. I would've needed 30 resource points at minimum, I delivered 90 - so, thrice as much. Well, there's no kill like overkill. xD

Moga Village (day)

As far as I know, 3rd Gen is the first to have its own kinds of fertilizers for mushroom and insect farming spots on the farm (Shroom Germ and Funky Pheromones, respectively).

Dung: "That's right: Monster poop. The odor reveals (too) much about the monster's diet." Must be really pleasant to carry that around in your pockets (or store it in your item box). xD

The item description says you can only sell Pittance Fangs for "pocket change" - that "pocket change" being 180z per piece, which is quite a lot by early game standards. (I've been wondering about the name, though; could it be that monster parts like fangs, teeth etc. are used as currency in some places in the MH universe? Is it custom to give these kinds of fangs to beggars so they can buy themselves something for it?)

Okay, the smith now wants me to bring him some Iron Ore to prove that I’m “worthy” of being his customer - at least he was so kind as to lend me his Mega Pickaxe for it. (Remember, kids? The time when you still had to carry pickaxes and bug nets with you to gather ore and insects?)

Village Chief: "All wyverians are hard to please. And this one is the worst. I know him since my early youth. I got into more brawls with him than the sky has stars!" Sounds like the Chief and the smith were best friends. xD It's charming to see the Chief reminiscing about his youth, though.

Chief: "My son still has a lot to learn... But you have to overcome barriers to grow." That's true - ngl, the Chief does have some pretty deep quotes.

Guild Sweetheart: "Drum roll... The Guild says: absolutely nothing!" Man, they sure are taking their time... Okay, how about this: I'm gonna go out to get some Iron Ore for the smith (and for myself), and you see if you can get through to the Guild in the meantime, alright? Don’t worry, sweetie - I’ll be right back!

Hi I don't know what I'm doing any more. This one features vampire bites and blood and the ingestion thereof.

Dracula loomed over Mister Renfield. It had been so long since he had a familiar, a true servant, bound to him in word and blood. The blood is the life, Mister Renfield, he had said when they first met. The lawyer had nodded dumbly, chalking the peculiar phrase up to a gap in language- something lost in translation. Now... Now he was learning.

Renfield had given his oath and drank Dracula's blood. He sealed his fate with a kiss on his Master's lips which, while not at all necessary for the process, was entirely not unappreciated by the vampire. Renfield's mind had been easy to read and... guide. A hungry, confused young husband and father who thought he wanted the life he had...

Dracula steered his mind closer to a different sort of truth.

It wasn't lying. Not entirely.

Now he loomed over Renfield, who was on his back in his bed, staring up at Dracula with the wide eyes of a virgin on wedding night, anticipation colouring his cheeks. Dracula descended and Renfield turned, slightly, so Dracula's lips pressed against his throat, the pulse fluttering there.

Over the course of his servitude, Renfield was only bitten by Dracula a handful of times. Most of them were consensual, and all of them hurt like hell. Renfield wondering if the fangs had some sort of venom in them, maybe to incapacitate the vampires less than willing meals. Whatever it was, the bite set every nerve in Renfield's body aflame. It was a dizzying sort of pain that damn near went all the way around to pleasurable. Renfield moaned and put his arms around the vampire, trying to pull him closer, to feel the cool of his Master's body against him, all but begging for his Master to touch him. He would feel ashamed about it, decades and decades later.

Dracula's teeth tore a sizeable piece of flesh and muscle away and he latched on like leech, sucking down mouthfuls of blood. It wouldn't take long for Renfield to go in to shock or panic or whatever humans did when they hit a certain threshold of blood loss. With graceful motions Dracula used his thumb claw to cut his index and middle fingers. He thrust them into Renfield's open, panting mouth, and the familiar immediately began sucking down the inky blood. Dracula and Renfield both knew the healing properties of the vampire's blood would not magically replace the blood being consumed by Dracula, but it would repair the damage from the bite and make Renfield's body ramp up red blood cell production. Just enough to avoid a full system shutdown, at least.

Over the course of his servitude, Renfield was given Dracula's blood many times. He only ingested it a few times, and each time it felt the same on his tongue- oddly thick, as like a syrup- but it never tasted the same. The first time he drank it, it was bitter, like rotten fruit, and it burned. Another time, it was almost bubbly sweet. In this particular moment as Master fed on him, it tasted damp-earthy and salty-sour and it went down cold. In the far back corner of his mind Renfield wondered if he was tasting himself in his Master's blood. Did being a familiar affect his flavour? Did Dracula enjoy his flavour? Why was the notion of tasting himself in his Master arousing?

You think too much Master chided in his head.

When Master was sated he raised his head, teeth red, and withdrew his fingers from Renfield's mouth. He smeared his blood and Renfield's saliva over the still-bleeding bite; muscle tissue slowly started reconstructing what has been chewed away. Renfield found himself in an odd state, his brain floating in the brief state of immense bloodloss. He didn't realise he was gripping Master's sleeve tightly.

"Will you stay with me?"

Dracula smiled and pressed a kiss to the familar's pale lips.

"Always."

OHOHOHOH i like this train of thought with car guy eiffel who always has a tiny screwdriver/one of those with interchangeable heads in his pocket eiffel going to engineering and screwing around with spare parts and fixing things when he needs to think eiffel who always has little metal bits and screws that hes messing with on his desk eiffel who makes little metal trinkets for his loved ones. he sits and rambles to hera about engines and different manufacturers and they design the perfect car together with her knowledge of the world and his brain for design and mechanics. im thinking very much kaylee from firefly who never understood people but somehow machines just talk to her and spring to life in her hands. doug eiffel who wanted to go to college for aerospace engineering and work for nasa but never went to college and picked up a job hauling scrap parts to pay for said college degree before he dropped out and ended up working as head mechanic and whose dreams of building space ships were reignited when cutter found him in prison. or, my saddest thought yet, eiffel already planning on building a car with his daughter for her sixteenth birthday before she was taken from him.

idk also brings new life to his relationship with hera as the ship and how no one else on the hephaestus was really fit to do big repairs, but if he had a background in mechanics he could understand her on ANOTHER level that the other crew members dont get

oh gosh, i really don't think he'd be into anything that complex! like - don't get me wrong, eiffel is smarter than people (including himself) give him credit for, but he's a handyman, not an engineer. he is like the model for undiagnosed adhd class clown; he got through high school because he tests remarkably well without ever studying, and that was just enough to keep him from failing on account of all the homework he didn't do. i fully believe that eiffel never went to college, and never intended to. he's unambitious, and i love that about him.

maxwell's got the genius mechanical aptitude, minkowski's got the hard work and dreams of spaceflight... eiffel's passion is radio. when i say he's a car guy, i don't think it's his thing like radio is his thing - he's just a guy with a head full of american pop culture biases, who likes tinkering with stuff, and who lists "monster trucks" as one of the top ten things he misses about earth. like - i feel bad that so much of this is me disagreeing with you, these are just very different things! eiffel's definitely got tools on hand, he keeps one of his tool bags by his bed, he likes building things out of spare parts - canonically, he's got a lot of technical know-how, but it's in a much more practical, hands-on way. i don't think he'd be telling hera about design, much less his own design concepts, as much as he'd be ranking his dream cars. and i do not think functionality factors in as much as "he thinks it's cool" and/or "they used that make and model in a movie that he liked."

and speaking of hera, honestly, like... eiffel's good with his hands! and he can follow her instructions and do repairs if necessary. but the kind of electronics eiffel works with are nowhere near as complex, and i don't think spaceship maintenance comes naturally to him - and it's certainly not something he wants to do!! and while it makes a pretty big difference whether we're talking general station maintenance vs. specifically hera's hardware here, i think the fact that he doesn't know how to navigate this stuff without her input is part of the reason she feels safe with him. he didn't even think about what "optical system" could mean. eiffel couldn't (intentionally) mess with hera's systems even if he wanted to. hera is so used to people who "understand" her in that way taking advantage of her; i think it's reassuring eiffel has no interest in it. he is a people person; hera's just a regular person to him.

but anyway. i think he was looking forward to teaching anne how to drive, and that would be a depressing note to leave this on, so. eiffel could not be an engineer, and i think even the thought of the work that would require would make him break out in hives, but he could be a mechanic, for whatever length of time it'd take him to get fired. and i think that would be hot. put him in another set of coveralls and get him greased up. that's what's really important.

You, Tony, and Steve get up and run out of the lab. Fury groans and sits up painfully. Emergency alarms are set off, fire extinguishers activate near surrounding fires, and every agent is in a spinning scramble for their positions and weapons. Maria is on the bridge trying to keep things as calm as possible.

"Hill?!" Fury shouts into his earpiece.

"Turn up that engine! Number Three engine is down! Can we get a run-in?" Maria turns to the Galaga player. "Talk to me."

"The turbine's loose. It's mostly intact, but it's impossible to get out there and make repairs while we're in the air."

"If we lose one more engine, we won't be. Somebody's got to get inside and patch that engine," Maria says into her earpiece.

"Stark! Y/N! You two copy that?!"

"We're on it!" you shout.

"Coulson! Initiate an official lockdown in the detention section then get to the armory! Move out!"

"Find engine three. I'll meet you there," Tony says and breaks off from you and Steve.

You rush over to the engine room and force the door open with your inhuman strength. The entire room is blown to bits and instead of looking at a secure room, you're looking at the sky.

"Stark, we're here!" Steve yells over the noise from the engine.

You jump off the edge into the sky and fly away to see what the damage is from a distance. It doesn't look good.

"Good. Let's see what we got," Tony says when he flies next to you. Tony has Jarvis to show him the damaged engine and its layout while you can only see what's in front of you. "I gotta get this superconducting cooling system back online before I can access the rotors and work on dislodging the debris."

"What do you want me to do?" you ask him.

He yanks on one of the stuck rotors

"I need you to get to that engine control panel and tell me which relays are in overload position," Tony says to Steve. Your friend jumps to a hanging pipe and uses that to haul himself onto a higher landing where the control panel is. "You have air powers. Use them. Wait for my signal."

"You got it," you nod.

Tony flies into the giant cooling conductors just as Steve opens the control panel.

"What's it look like in there?" Tony asks Steve.

"It seems to run on some form of electricity."

"Well, you're not wrong." Tony blasts his way through the metal debris and gets to where the blades are. "Even if I clear the rotors, this thing won't re-engage without a jump. You're up, Y/N."

"You're going to need to push it, Tony. I'll be able to use the wind you're creating to keep it going," you say and fly down to underneath the rotors where the blades are.

"If that thing gets up to speed, you'll get shredded," Steve says.

"Stay in the control unit and reverse polarity long enough to disengage mag--"

"Speak English!"

Tony sighs. "See that red lever?" Steve looks around to see a red lever across the wreckage from him. "It'll slow the rotors down long enough for me to get out. Stand by it and wait for my word."

You hear the hum of a fighter jet and look behind you to see one heading to the front of the ship where there is a huge glass dome. From where you are, you can see Thor and Hulk fighting each other. You'd help but you have more pressing issues than that. Tony uses his red laser like he used when fighting Ivan Vanko to break off the debris stuck between the blades.

"Tony, you ready?" you ask. Suddenly, you hear gunshots come from your earpiece. You've been hearing it since the explosion but this time is different because you can hear Steve's grunts. "Steve! Are you okay?"

"I'm good! Focus on the engine!"

You're not sure what is happening in there, but something causes all the engines to power down so that the huge helicarrier is now freefalling back down to the surface.

"Tony! Get that engine moving!"

You fly down far enough and raise your hands to the falling ship. Wind circles you faster and faster as you create a column of air to try and keep the ship afloat. It's going to take a lot more wind than what you're giving, but if you give too much then you'll start to create storms that will affect millions of people down below.

Steve is doing his best to keep Loki's men at bay by shooting at them using one of their own guns. One of the bullets from Loki's men flies past Steve and right at you. The bullet goes through your upper arm which causes you to jerk back in surprise.

"Fuck!" you gasp and look at your bleeding arm.

The men continue to shoot at Steve who backs up to try and avoid the bullets when he steps on a loose piece of metal. He loses his footing and falls backward into the open air. He gasps and grabs one of the thick wires hanging out of the ship to save himself but it slips through his hand.

"Y/N!"

You look over to see Steve falling without a parachute. In a flash, Steve becomes Bucky, and you're brought back to your past.

Bucky's hands are slipping off the metal bar he's clinging so hard to because he can't hold his own weight anymore. He's going to die in this moment, he knows. One of his hands slips off right before the other one does. You jump out of the moving car and fly down to him. He only falls a few feet when you catch him. He looks up at you with fear in his eyes.

"Did you really think I'd let you fall?" you chuckle.

You start to fly him up toward the speeding train but you're never able to get to it. Someone from either down below or in the mountains shoots at you with the same weapons as the mysterious man inside the train. You dodge one of them only to be hit with another one. You're forced to let go of Bucky's hand as you go crashing into the side of the mountain.

Your crash site makes a huge hole in the side of the mountain, and you weakly crawl to the edge to see where Bucky went.

"Bucky!!" you cry out.

You jump out of the hole and go flying down to the base of the mountain, but before you can get too far, more shots are fired at you. Whoever is shooting at you clearly doesn't want you to go down there. Bucky is most likely dead, and if you continue down there, then you will be too.

"Steve!" you gasp. You let the others fend for themselves as you fly down to save your best friend. You grab his hand and pull him up to you so that he is no longer freefalling. "I got you. You're okay. I got you."

You fly Steve back up to the falling helicarrier when Steve yells out in fear.

"Watch out!

You look up to see the glass cell Loki was in fall right toward you two. You immediately move out of the way so you're not hit by it, and you briefly make eye contact with Thor who is trapped inside.

"What the hell is going on up there?"

"Y/N! I could use a bit of air right now!" Tony says. "Cap, I need the lever!"

"You're gonna have to give us a second!"

"Lever! Now!"

"Get the lever! I'll get this guy!"

You practically toss Steve back onto the platform with the red lever while you use your air powers on the shooter. You sweep his feet right from underneath him and blast him back into the wall behind him. Steve yanks the lever down so that Tony is ejected from the engine below. Once he regains his balance, he flies up to you and Steve.

Loki is gone. The scepter is gone. Clint is back and is recovering from the mind control. Bruce is nowhere to be found. Thor may or may not be dead. They found out why the whole system was failing and got everything back online. The only good thing about all this is that the fight is over. You lean against the wall with a sigh and look at Steve who looks exhausted.

"Agent Coulson is down," Fury's voice comes through the earpiece. "Paramedics are here. They called it."

Tears stream down your face for your lost friend. The only ones left on the ship are you, Tony, and Steve. Natasha is taking care of Clint who is having a hard time coming back from Loki's mind control. Everyone is working to get the helicarrier back in working order while still giving you four privacy at the long table.

"These were in Coulson's jacket." Fury tosses bloody Captain America trading cards over to Steve. "Guess he never did get you to sign them." Steve picks up the cards with a pained look on his face. "We're dead in the air up here. Our communications and the location of the cube, Banner, and Thor are unknown. I got nothing for you. Lost my one good eye. Maybe I had that coming." You look at Fury who looks defeated. "Yes, we were going to build an arsenal with the Tesseract. I never put all my chips on that number though, because I was playing something even riskier." He walks around to behind you and places his hands on the back of your chair. "There was an idea, Stark and Y/N know this, called the Avengers Initiative. Tony is very upset over Phil and this whole situation so you and Steve follow him to the containment center where Loki once was. Instead of a glass cell, it's an empty room with a big hole in the ground. The rift is closed so it's eerily quiet in here. There is a bloodstain on the wall where Phil was murdered.

"Was he married?" Steve asks.

"No, there was a cellist... I think."

"I'm sorry. He seemed like a good man."

"He was an idiot," Tony scoffs, "for taking Loki on alone."

"He was doing his job."

"He was out of his league. He should have waited. He should have--"

"Sometimes there isn't a way out, Tony," Steve sighs. "Is this the first time you've lost a soldier?"

Tony sharply turns to Steve angrily.

"We are not soldiers!"

"I am."

"I am not marching to Fury's fife!" Tony shouts.

"Neither am I! He's got the same blood on his hands as Loki does. Right now, we've got to put that aside and get this done. Now, Loki needs a power source. If we can put together a list--"

"He made it personal," you cut Steve off.

"That's not the point."

"That is the point. I know Loki better than everyone. Think what you want about him but he is a major diva. He craves attention because he wants to be seen."

"She's right," Tony backs you up. "He hit us all right where we live. Why? He had to conquer his greed, but he knows he has to take us out to win, right? That's what he wants. He wants to beat us and he wants to be seen doing it. He wants an audience. Y/N is absolutely right. Loki's a full-tilt diva. He wants flowers, he wants parades, he wants a monument built in the skies with his name plastered..."

"Son of a bitch!" you and Tony say at the same time. "He's at Stark Tower. We need everyone we can on this. I'll get Nat and Clint."

You leave the containment center and head to the medical wing where Clint is receiving treatment from his best friend. You knock twice on the door before entering. Natasha is sitting on the bed. Clint is nowhere in sight but the sound of the facet running suggests he is in the bathroom.

"Hey, we gotta go. Are you okay?"

"Go where?" she asks, ignoring your other question.

"Stark Tower. We think that's where Loki is opening his portal. Can you fly one of those jets?"

"I can," Clint says when he walks out of the bathroom.

"Are you okay?"

"I guess," he shrugs.

"Listen, I've been messed with by Loki, too. Don't take it too personally."

hi i have an iterator oc to tell u about :0

she was a prototype made as a proof of concept for iterator technology.

she was made to the far north, in the middle of a winter wasteland, because the ancients thought "hey, snow can be turned into water for this thing, and theres plenty of snow near the poles"

her programming wasnt very well thought out because the ancients were still figuring shit out, so when they turned her on she um... lashed out and killed a bunch of them

to be fair, she was scared and confused and didnt know what was happening or who these people in overly ornate masks are, so she did the one thing she could think of

lash out and kill a bunch of them

they shut her off, placed restrictions, adjusted her programming, fixed bugs, and-- yeah no it didnt work

they kept trying and trying, but nothing worked to calm her near incandescent fury, so they just shut her off for good and left her there. why they didnt completely disassemble her and her Can to reuse the resources is beyond me, but whatever ill figure it out later.

some time passes, the other iterators are made, the rain gets worse and worse, 5p gets the rot, moon collapses, and by the time of... idk, before Artificer became the BOOM slayer, scavengers find their way to her Can through the underground subway system and populate it. one of them accidentally turns her back on and... well, the lights and heating are up and running, but not much else.

they soon discover her puppet chamber. her puppet is slumped against the wall, completely inert, and yet she can still speak to them and give them the mark.

which she does... for all of them.

she basically acts as a rage-fueled goddess to the scavs living in her Can, who are taught to slowly but surely repair the broken systems and exterior damage to her structure. they even get her puppet's control arm up and running

she hasnt been given a name in all her time existing, so she decides to name herself Incandescent Fury, after a comment she overheard one of her creators make during the many attempts to calm her down

i dont have a reference for her puppet, but its purple with bright pink eyes and has a sort of... holy seal or ward in the form of a mask strapped to its face.

the puppet itself is a lot simpler than Pebbles or Moons, basically just a crude animatronic doll with a plastic exoskeleton. again, prototype.
