Quit w/ the MIND-FUCKING
Did you know that your brain’s storage capacity is considered virtually unlimited? I like to think that I have a pretty exceptional brain…Really, WE all have exceptional brains. The brain itself is an EXCEPTIONAL muscle. Rhetorically speaking, I have a question for you all…When your kid does something 100% down-right-stupid, how many of you (you = parents) respond with something along the lines of “WHAT IN THE H.E.L.L. WERE YOU THINKING?!” AND how many of you follow that initial response with some kind of knee-jerk-reaction kind of punishment, such as, “YOU ARE GROUNDED” or ”GET TO YOUR ROOM”? Let me tell you a fun/little/fact about the way our brain “grows up” with us...
Your brain isn't fully formed until age 25. Brain development begins from the back of the brain and works its way to the front. Therefore, your frontal lobes, which control planning and reasoning, are the last to strengthen and structure connections.
Keep it real with yourself…and I will keep it real with you. My oldest kid is 5 and there are so many times I find myself asking him the “what are you thinking” question. And 10 years from now, when he is 15, I am sure I will find myself yelling (or at least wanting too) those exact same secondary thoughts, MY thoughts turned reaction, AT him. Before we go any further, I am going to share one more fun fact with you -
One of the biggest differences researchers have found between adults and adolescents is the pre-frontal cortex. This part of the brain is still developing in teens and doesn’t complete its growth until approximately early to mid 20’s. The prefrontal cortex performs reasoning, planning, judgment, and impulse control, necessities for being an adult. Without the fully development prefrontal cortex, a teen might make poor decisions and lack the inability to discern whether a situation is safe. Teens tend to experiment with risky behavior and don’t fully recognize the consequences of their choices.
My point is, we all have expectations. And we all have some SERIOUS expectations that we raise GOOD/SOLID/SMART members of society before we release them into the wild. But - that isn’t, or shouldn’t, be the point. I mean - yes, it should, BUT, people & kiddos make SOLID FUCKING MISTAKES sometimes. And sometimes, they need more than a SOLID PUNISHMENT. Sometimes, they just need us to listen and understand. And BE FUCKING REAL…you made the same damn mistakes when you were their age too. And if you didn’t turn out okay, it is most likely because you made a different choice NOT TO TURN OUT OKAY.
We need to break this down more as parents. Or at least take more of the responsibility for the shit that is going on in our world right now. We need to understand that what we “do” to our kids at home, is taught and instilled in their itty-bity-less-than-full-grown brains and then they take that “behavior” to school and out with their friends. Kids don’t typically just become bullies. They don’t typically just show up to school with a gun and decide to end another’s life. Kids are born good/solid/smart human-beings and it’s our behavior, and less than mature selves, that mold them.
Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying ignore the bad moments and let the kids rule the world by doing whatever-da-fuq-dey-want. All I am saying, is that sometimes, punishment and discipline isn’t the answer. Sometimes, the bad behavior, is caused by mental health issues - aka issues within the brain. To be blunt, I am saying, sometimes, you need to shut the fuck up at home and listen to your kids. Ask your kids different questions. Raise them to be kind, rather than smart. Mold them to be strong themselves, even when they fuck up. Prepare them to “fly” for when it comes time to let them.
GET REAL - We don’t need more brains in this world. We need more KIND H-E-A-R-T-S.

"Most people do feel a deep connection with animals, but we end up making eating animals abstract by calling it meat and dairy, by wrapping it in a clean packet, and by marketing it in the way we do, equating it to all kinds of ridiculous things such as masculinity, social status, and family values. And this abstraction is the best way to hide the cruelty, the best way to lose the connection that we all have with animals, and the best way to lose the connection we all have with the planet."

The Transformative Power of Words
Our words possess an incredible power that can shape perceptions, influence emotions, and impact relationships. The Bible often emphasizes the importance of our speech, cautioning against gossip, slander, and false accusations. In Proverbs 18:21, it states, "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit." This verse underscores the profound impact our words can have, both for good and for harm.
When someone close to us spreads false accusations or gossip, it can be deeply hurtful and challenging to comprehend. It's a betrayal of trust and can leave us feeling wounded and misunderstood. In such moments, it's essential to remember that often, those who engage in such behavior may not fully grasp the gravity of their actions or the harm they cause. They might be driven by their own insecurities, misunderstandings, or misguided intentions.
Navigating through such situations requires strength and grace. It's crucial to resist the temptation to retaliate or engage in similar behavior. Instead, choosing to respond with patience, forgiveness, and understanding can help break the cycle of negativity. Ephesians 4:29 advises, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." This verse encourages us to use our words to uplift and encourage rather than tear down.
While it may be challenging, finding compassion for those who have wronged us can be a transformative act. Recognizing that their actions stem from their own struggles and shortcomings can help cultivate empathy and foster healing, both for ourselves and for them.
Ultimately, being mindful of the power of our words and the impact they have on others is essential. By speaking with integrity, kindness, and wisdom, we can contribute to the creation of a more compassionate and understanding world, where our words serve to uplift and unite rather than divide and harm.

The Sustainability of Leather: Myths, Facts, and the Future of a Durable Material
Leather – the soft, supple fabric conjures images of luxurious handbags, stylish jackets, and comfortable shoes. It's a material deeply woven into human history, used for millennia for its durability and beauty. But in recent years, leather has faced growing scrutiny over its environmental impact, sparking debate about its place in a sustainable future.
In this blog, we'll delve into the complex topic of leather sustainability, dissecting the myths, presenting the facts, and exploring the innovative solutions shaping the future of this popular material.
Myth-busting and Fact-finding:
Myth: Leather is inherently unsustainable because it comes from animals.
Fact: While animal agriculture does have environmental challenges, leather production can be part of a closed-loop system, utilizing the by-products of the meat industry and reducing waste. In fact, not using these hides would contribute to even greater environmental impact through landfill disposal.
Myth: Leather production harms water resources.
Fact: While traditional tanning methods can be water-intensive, sustainable tanneries are adopting innovative processes that significantly reduce water consumption and utilize eco-friendly chemicals.
Myth: Leather is bad for animal welfare.
Fact: Responsible sourcing is key. Look for leather certified by organizations like the Leather Working Group, which ensures ethical animal treatment and traceability throughout the supply chain.
The Future of Leather:
Innovation is paving the way for a more sustainable future for leather. Bio-based tanning agents, recycled leather options, and even lab-grown leather alternatives are making strides towards minimizing environmental impact. Consumers can also contribute by:
Investing in quality: Opt for well-made leather products that will last for years, reducing the need for replacements.
Caring for leather: Proper cleaning and conditioning extend the lifespan of leather items, keeping them out of landfills.
Choosing responsibly: Look for certifications and support brands committed to sustainable practices.
The Bottom Line:
Leather sustainability is a complex issue with no easy answers. While challenges remain, the industry is evolving towards more responsible practices. By understanding the facts, making informed choices, and supporting sustainable initiatives, we can ensure that leather continues to be a part of our world in a way that respects both animals and the environment.

Turning Bullying into Strength: My Journey Towards Becoming a Better Person
Bullying is an experience many of us have faced at some point in our lives, and I want to share my journey of how it made me a better person.
At the time, it felt like the world was against me. The words, the taunts, the isolation – it hurt. It cut deep. But, as I reflect on those challenging times, I realize that those painful moments became the catalyst for my personal growth.
Bullying forced me to confront the darkest corners of my own soul. I had to dig deep to find strength, resilience, and courage I didn't know I possessed. It pushed me to examine my values and beliefs. I realized that I never wanted to be the person who caused someone else that kind of pain.
I discovered empathy, and it changed my perspective. I realized that every person is fighting their own battles, and we often don't know the burdens others carry. Bullying made me more compassionate and understanding, and I vowed to be there for those who needed support.
It also led me to a deeper understanding of the importance of kindness and inclusion. I committed to creating an environment where everyone felt valued, appreciated, and heard. I learned to stand up for those who couldn't stand up for themselves.
Bullying made me resilient, and it made me passionate about fighting against cruelty and injustice. It made me want to be part of a world where people lift each other up instead of tearing each other down.
So, in an unexpected way, bullying made me a better person. It pushed me to embrace qualities like empathy, kindness, and strength. It's not a path I would have chosen, but it's one that ultimately led me to a brighter, more compassionate, and empathetic version of myself.
I share this not to dwell on the past but to remind us all that, in the face of adversity, we have the power to turn pain into strength and become advocates for a more compassionate and understanding world. 💪❤️
