Penelope does therapy… on Callisto
Callisto: so why do I have to do this?
Penelope: It’s to heal your inner child
Callisto: What’s there to heal?
Penelope looking at her charts: according to reports, you have large scale emotional outbursts, destructive tendencies such as mass murder, an inability to explain your feelings, and a fear of abandonment when it comes to your relationships.
Callisto: My outbursts are within the normal range, so what if a few kingdoms fell? That’s normal. Mass murder is not a destructive tendency, it’s a way of blowing off steam and a fun past time. Who needs feelings anyway? And what are you talking about? I feel no such sense of fear.
Penelope: So if I left and…
Callisto panics: What? Why are you leaving me? Princess, no! Don’t leave me!!! (Clings to her.)
Penelope: You were saying? I was going to say I was going to the Duchy for a bit.
Callisto: That’s mean! Why are you going to leave me?!?
Penelope writes on her chart: Yeah, you definitely need it.
-
-
Penelope: Okay, first close your eyes and focus on my voice, take three deep breaths.
Callisto, holding Penelope’s hands, tightly in fear, does as he’s told.
Penelope: Tell me one thing you smell
Callisto: Your scent
Penelope: One thing you hear
Callisto: Your heartbeat
Penelope: Huh? How?
Callisto: Dragon hearing
Penelope: Okay, moving on… one thing you feel
Callisto: Your hand
Penelope frustrated: One thing you taste
Callisto puts her hand up and licks it: You
Penelope: …
-
-
Penelope: That was a bust, lets try the next one, nurturing your creativity
Callisto: So why paints and paper?
Penelope: try them
Callisto hesitantly touches the paint: Eww
Penelope: What? You’re used to blood and mud but not paint
Callisto: But it’s wet and sticky
Penelope: So’s blood
Reynold walks in: Cool, paints! (Starts painting a stick man of himself standing over everyone as the supreme champion of all competitions and as the ultimate knight)
Callisto eventually gives in to Penelope’s look and draws himself standing over the corpses of his dead enemies and explains it. The other side of the painting is taken up with Callisto carrying Penelope with a whole gaggle of their children.
Reynold: That’s lame
Callisto: Oh yeah? What did you draw?
Reynold: It’s Super Reynold and his side kick spider donkey
Penelope as she watches them argue over who had the better painting: …
-
-
Penelope: How about you try collecting something?
Callisto: Oh, well, that’s easy, I already collect a few things
Penelope: Oh, can you show me?
Callisto: Well…
Callisto shows Penelope his collection of swords from his felled enemies, the collection of the flags of the kingdoms he’s defeated, and his Penelope collection, from strands of hair to gifts she’s given him.
Penelope: … no… just… no…
-
-
Penelope: How about we try visualizing things. Think back to your childhood, what would you think would be your ideal childhood
Callisto: Well, I’d have met you earlier as children.
Penelope: That’s sweet but I’d still be a baby, you’re five years older than I am
Callisto: Then, I’ll steal you away as my bride and lock you away from the world, I’ll take care of you of course. And then it would be better if I can sacrifice my half brother to a volcano. And then maybe feed my stepmother to some sharks… hmm… maybe I’d tear down Delman earlier and kill them all…
Penelope: this just took a turn…
-
-
Penelope: Okay, fine, let’s try some journaling
Callisto: Do I have to show it to you?
Penelope: No.
Callisto: I want to show you
Penelope: Okay
Callisto: Today, I saw Penelope again, she looked so pretty…
Callisto continues to wax poetics about her and she’s blushing: And just before I forget, I also executed some rebels and had so much fun.
Penelope: … you are hopeless.
-
-
Penelope: Okay, last one… let’s try playing
Callisto: Oh (Waggles his brows and tries to strip)
Penelope: What are you doing?
Callisto: You said we were going to play. You know, our code word for fun times in bed
Penelope: No! I mean we play with these children’s toys
Reynold who walked in: Wow! I remember these. (Proceeds to play with them)
Callisto: Why didn’t you ever try these on your brother
Penelope: You think he needs to work on his inner child? He never grew up. That’s his natural state. A perpetual child!

The multiple languages of love:
Callisto at one point sat down and learned on a whim how to say ‘I love you’ in 20+ languages to express his undying love for Penelope better, because simply put, one language isn’t enough to explain what he feels for her. He’s also aware of the fact that his wife is able to understand what he’s saying most of the times because she speaks a handful of languages, and the adorable blush that dusts her cheeks never fails to make him smile.
Penelope will never get used to Callisto’s incessant love-bombing, and the actual lengths he’d go to express how much he loves her, it tugs at her heart strings in the best way possible. It’s an indescribable sensation, but if she were to word it out, Penelope would say that it’s like a bunch of butterflies swarmed her stomach, alike the feeling when he first kissed her.
Callisto also took it upon himself to learn about flower-language, and what each color and flower represents.
First and foremost, the red roses are never missing, he likes to think that Penelope will always associate their color with his eyes.
This stems from one time when she left him a neatly written note in his office for their anniversary, where at the end there was the mark of her lips in red lipstick, with a rose of the same shade attached to the paper; Callisto kissed the mark left by her lips without hesitation.
Carnations of deep color are also very present, because while it is true that love is the sentiment that burns the brightest of them all, Callisto cannot help but feel a deep sense of admiration every time his wife takes the lead as Empress.
She has the final say in things, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He couldn’t care less about what other people think of him, but Penelope’s opinion is the one that truly matters. He knows she’ll always tell him the truth, no matter what.
Orchids bring back memories of the earlier stages of their relationship, when Callisto would shower Penelope with an endless pile of expensive gifts after learning that she had a penchant for jewelry and such.
The fine silks of the dresses he’d gift her were imported from different countries and manufactured with the outmost care, befitting the woman of his heart. In the box, on top of the silks, there would be two orchids of a color similar to the one of her hair, their stems tied together by a white ribbon with golden threads sewn in.
Their presence standing for luxury and refinement as well as a beauty unlike any other.
Even after their union as a married couple, when Callisto commissions new garbs for his wife, two orchids that are meant to symbolize the two of them are left on top of the garments as a callback to those days.
Later on, the number of the flowers growing with every addition to their family, increasing by one for each little miracle that blesses their lives, bringing them into parenthood and its joys.
After a while, Penelope taught Callisto how to make flower-crowns, and now every occasion is good to make them for her. Penelope is somewhat jealous because he shouldn’t be allowed to be this good at making flower-crowns, not better than her that’s for sure.
However she cannot stay irked for too long because the way he places the carefully made crown on top of her head with that specific gaze, where it looks like he just fell in love all over again, melts away all the previously built up irritation.
Later on Callisto will start making flower-crowns for their children as well, and Penelope can feel her heart swell the longer she watches them, especially when their kids try to replicate said flower-crowns.

Headcanon #2
After the hunting competition, Callisto desperately wanted to see Penelope every single day, talk to her, and just gaze at her beautiful face for long hour without end, so he secretly had the empire's best painters come to the palace and paint portraits of her, which he kept everywhere, being careful to order his servants to hide them every time Penelope visited his palace, and having them placed in a secret room in his treasury when she moved in as the empress after her studies were completed. He also kept things like the gloves he wore any time he held Penelope's hand, the piece of cloth Penelope ripped off of her dress when his arm was injured, the arrow that would have killed him if not for the amulet Penelope gave him at the hunting competition because he realized that she actually cared whether he died at that moment, a collection of crystal balls that can replay every moment he shares with her, no matter how trivial, which he has the imperial magicians make by photocopying his memories, down to the heads of all the people he killed for messing with Penelope as trophies and the dead skin of his lips that came off a few days after his first kiss with her.
After Judith grew up a little, whenever Penelope would visit the Eckhart duchy to see her father and second brother without Judy, Callisto would take her to the hidden room in the treasury and show his memories of Penelope and tell the significance of each of the objects, making her jealous that she couldn't live the moments he did with Penelope. Upon Penelope's return, Judith would take Penelope to her room, making sure her father can't come anywhere near them for hours and tell Penelope to shower her with more love than she's ever done for Callisto, consequently making him the jealous one.
Safe to say, Judith has tried to kiss Penelope on more than one occasion in her child days and Callisto has received a lot of scoldings, ear and hair pulling, and nights alone for teaching their Judy bad things.
She also has a secret collection of things that can remind her of Penelope, inspired by Callisto and known to only the two of them, although nothing is as particularly crazy as dead skin cells. This collection includes a mountain full of memories, Penelope's used perfumes, make up, accessories, pens, and other belongings that she thought she threw out (Judith and Callisto fight over these), spoons that she's eaten from (Callisto gets the forks), and even the dress Penelope was wearing while giving birth to her.
Penelope returns early on one day after her visit to the duchy and catches the two of them sharing one of those super cute father daughter moments where they treat each other like love rivals and Penelope isn't even surprised, but has them get rid of all the items. Judith confides in her uncle, Reynold, and the maids that were supposed to throw the things out transport them to Reynold's secret sea-side cottage (which I think makes sense for him to have), and Callisto does the same with Cedric (Reynold easily complies because his heart always gets the best of him and Cedric is threatened to). They do get to keep some of the things of their collection with them, though, after hours of begging and imploring Penelope to please let them.
ALSO!! Reynold attempts doing the same with Emily after hearing of Judy and Calli's collection from Penelope later on, but is caught while trying to add the very first item, and ultimately fails.
And I should also mention Callisto got the idea to start this collection from Cedric!
When Callisto used to ramble on and on about his times with Penelope to Cedric whilst he was working, Cedric once got annoyed and went "With how obsessed you are, I'm surprised you don't have magicians preserve every breath she exhales and the water she washes her dirty hands with!" At that moment Callisto jumps up from his chair, kicks the table he's sitting in front of, sending it flying, and darts out of the room at the speed of 100km/s to the imperial magicians and tries doing so right away. Unfortunately for him, they're not able to preserve her breath for real and he can't keep the water she cleans herself with because at the time she was still living with the Eckharts and trying to go back to her world, blissfully ignorant to everything happening at the palace. Callisto begins to fidget with his lips (and this is a few days after the first kiss) and a piece of skin comes off. His collection began with this, and poor Cedric, traumatized, never made sarcastic remarks within Callisto's hearing range ever again.

RAVENOUS
Relationship: Penelope Eckhart/Callisto Regulus | Rating: E | Word count: 7068 Warnings: smut (please read the tags on AO3 for more information) with plot, post-canon
Summary:
“Penelope Eckhart,” he growled. “Follow me to my office. Now.” Her skin tingled, thrilled she had finally managed to push him over the edge. Even before their busy schedules had kept them apart ahead of Callisto’s coronation, they had to be mindful of Callisto’s condition whenever they engaged in… physical activities together. Nevertheless, he had never left her unsatisfied. Penelope still felt bad, given how overworked and exhausted he had been. But tonight, Penelope would finally get Callisto’s unbridled self to pounce on her. Or: Penelope and Callisto enjoyed their engagement party, in more ways than one.
Read on AO3 here
A/N: Penelope and Callisto are currently giving us: greenhouse angst so I offer you: domestic fluff and smut.
I played a bit with the timeline concerning the engagement banquet and made it happen the same day as his coronation when in the novel, it likely took place a few weeks after his coronation (when Penelope had already left for her expedition) given the timing of Maryanne's first pregnancy.
I reread the novel to incorporate canon displays of affection between Penelope and Callisto and add more details to them, including: Callisto's ears turning red, kissing hands, Penelope saying he's handsome, her obsession with his hands, Callisto peppering Penelope's hair in kisses and hair pulling.
Concerning the scene with Reynold, I added it because I have a soft spot for him and to bring more closure (for now) indirectly between Penelope and the Duke. I found myself frustrated with their last dicussion before the 5 year timeskip, Penelope herself in the novel says that unlike with Reynold, there were many things she left unsaid.
I did my best to keep the banter even in their intimate moments (smut included) while also showing their mutual adoration for each other (“Let me worship you, be your devoted subject.”/ “I often find myself in awe in the presence of someone so divine,” he admitted in a labored breath. “I will spend the rest of my days worshiping you the same way you are worshiping me now.”)

Yandere Callisto Regulus
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
-> warning: yandere themes, maybe more violent compared to my others posts, callisto killing people, manipulation(?), threats ( not to reader), hit female reader(?) but it like one topic
->a/n: AHHHHH! I manage to post it today! A special yandere writing with one of my favorites male leads. i wrote this since i am obsessed with manwha, most specific with isekai where the protagonist gets the villain body and don’t want to die classic~ and since they don’t receive much attention, I decided to write myself a couple of them which will include others male lead ( and if u want the female lead too ). also, this will pass in a au where penelope has a loving family because i can’t handle her being mistreated.
Tumblr media
-> if one word could describe callisto as a yandere would be “protective” , he will do anything to protect you from the dangerous ( know as almost everything that exist ) people who try to take away from him
-> noble, commoner, don’t matter your social class, callisto will marry you and make you his significant other, having the greatest wedding in the century invite many people to see it happening
-> if you a commoner, he will make sure you receive proper education, learning math, writing and even more to make you a proper ruler to the kingdom
-> and your commoner family will be helped too! Callisto make sure to make them receive education and lands to get them in some business, even a title if they want
-> but if you are a noble, he would be careful, he knows how almost every noble family try manipulate their children like puppets to gain power, so he would cut the puppet master, leaving you alone without anyone but him
-> as his spouse, he makes sure of your security, having at least five knights if you leave the palace and your maids? Your personal maid? she tells him everything about your day, what you ate, where you wanted, what you did, everything
->maybe one noble, better, one of councilman will hit to the idea of callisto getting a second wife, and immediately, that nobleman is dead and no one try to say that idea ever again
-> in the rare times where he can spend time with you alone, probably night time and when you two go to sleep, callisto always keep a hand on your body, don’t matter where, he just need to feel you, to make sure you never left him
-> also, kids! he definitely look forward to have little versions of you two running through the palace, doesn’t care if you ended have a girl or a boy, or the numbers of children, as long you are happy and comfortable to have kids, he won’t say anything against
->overall, he is a seven of ten, only dangerous to anyone who threaten you but a sweetheart to his darling and future kids

If you had to write a fic shipping og Penelope x Derrick how would you write it with a good end and a bad end.
Would you ship cha siyeon and derrick.
Would Derrick even fall for cha siyeon if he knew she wasn't the real Penelope (canon seems to say yes).
Whould he be obsessed with her? Was Derrick even "obsessed" with og Penelope or was it just a simple attraction and he was a major asshole
And just a side note why was Callisto and iklies so obsessed with cha siyeon.
If you had to write a fic shipping og Penelope x Derrick how would you write it with a good end and a bad end.
for me Derrick x Penelope can only end in three ways 1. suicide 2. murder 3. stockholme syndrome. A plot about forgiveness and redemption wouldn't satisfy me. If I were to write a fic about them (hypothetical) then I'd write a darkfic where Derrick is manipulating and gaslighting Penelope into thinking that she loves him and that she wants this until she meets Iklies and realizes what Derrick has been doing to her. The fic would despict Penelope's struggles to break free from him and it'd end ultimately with Penelope murdering him violently. Maybe the first part of the fic would be from Derrick's pov and it'd trick the reader into believing it's an angsty romance about ~forbidden love~ but then it switches the pov in the middle to Penelope and the reader slowly comes to the realization that what Derrick has been describing as something sweet and romantic were just his own delusional thoughts sugarcoating the abuse, and everything he has done has been a pure nightmare to Penelope the whole time. I'd also love to read a bad ending fic where Derrick has Penelope successfully confined somewhere and she has succumbed to stockholm syndrome. I'm very interested in how the toxic nature of their relationship would affect any children that Derrick might have fathered.
I can also imagine a canon divergent fic where Penelope and Iklies have been lovers who were planning to elope but Derrick caught them and had Iklies executed. After that Penelope vowed revenge and her attempt to kill Ivonne was her revenge against the Eckarts (you took something I loved dearly from me and I will make you suffer the same pain) as well as a desperate attempt to escape Derrick even if she has to die by the hands of the executioner hated by the entire Empire.
2. Would you ship cha siyeon and derrick. I wouldn't ship Cha Siyeon and Derrick since I don't like Cha Siyeon and I don't like Derrick. As I mentioned before I'm also not a fan of a love interest who has been in love with the og villainess/ heroine falling in love with the girl who took over her body. Particulary if the love interest in question is meant to be read as a yandere and had been obsessed with her for almost a decade. He didn't even notice that the girl he has been living with for years has been replaced by someone else. It makes one question if his feelings for the first girl were really that deep when he could fall out of love so easily and then fall in love with someone who looks like his first love, while believing them to be the same person.
Derrick x Siyeon doesn't attract me the same way as Derrick x og Penelope does. Derrick x Siyeon's romance would be like one of those trashy manhuas where abusive CEO get reformed by the power of love, og Penelope x Derrick would be a horror story. Og Penelope and Derrick have a history, there is the age difference, a power imbalance, class struggle and pseudo incest. Shit this is what dead dove eaters consider a gourmet meal. Derrick x Siyeon would be abuse apologism which is meh. But Derrick x og Penelope started out so messed up that there is virtually no way not to despict it as something that isn't psychological horror.
3. Would Derrick even fall for cha siyeon if he knew she wasn't the real Penelope (canon seems to say yes).
I'm not too sure. All the male leads in the game fell for Cha Siyeon because she fullfilled the conditions of the game. You can argue that Derrick's feelings for og Penelope are more genuine (athough they were in no way pure) wheras his feelings for Cha Siyeon are artificial and depended on her choosing the right dialoge option/action. Cha Siyon had five men wanting her because she is now the heroine of the game but og Penelope was the villainess in Ivonne's route and had one man wanting her which is more realistic. And no matter how bad she was behaving and even when she was messing up so bad that she was to be killed, and even when Derrick was the one killing her it didn't change the fact that he was still in "love" with her from the moment they met.
I'd say if Cha Siyeon were another noble lady, Derrick would consider her as a marriage candidate. But it would have been a marriage of inclination and not a marriage of love. Derrick and Cha Siyeon seem to have a similar temperament. People say similarity attracts but in this case I disagree. Derrick strikes me as someone who wouldn't even like himself if he met his own clone. I don't even have any supporting evidence for this argument it's really just based on gut feeling. However if he was attracted to someone like og Penelope then I think that his taste in women is the exact opposite of what you'd expect from a man like him and definitely not what he'd claim his taste in woman would be. If you'd ask him for his type he'd probably describe someone mature and elegant but that's not who og Penelope was. Derrick is a control freak, someone who thought Penelope trying to learn something was silly because he thought she was a stupid woman. I don't think his pride could tolerate a woman who is as competent or even more competent than him for too long. I suspect he might be a chauvinist.
4. Would he be obsessed with her? Was Derrick even "obsessed" with og Penelope or was it just a simple attraction and he was a major asshole
Why not both? He was obsessed with her and decided to be a major asshole about it, because he felt ashamed and guilty. He was attracted to her but he barely knew her. What he saw of her was probably a distorted image. I (manhwa only) don't know enough of him and og Penelope to give a concise answer but I wouldn't trust in any statement he makes of og Penelope's character. This is the man who lusted after a 12 year old and kept victim blaming her for 6 years until her final death. He claims it was love. It's your decision to believe what you want based on the things that were shown. We can never hear the other side of the story because she is dead.
It is sad that the only information we have about og Penelope are the memories from her abusers and the projections of a woman who took over her body. We might never know what her true character was like. Who knows maybe there was a grain of truth hidden beneath the layers of rumors and character assassinations carried out against her.
If it wasn't just lust, then I want to know if Derrick has ever had anything positive to say about og Penelope's character.
5. And just a side note why was Callisto and iklies so obsessed with cha siyeon.
Iklies: My guess? Stockholme syndrome + the game system was basically brainwashing him. He couldn't feel true love for her because Cha Siyeon barely treated him like a human being and ignored his emotional needs most of the time but he was compelled to love her because she raised his affection artificially with gifts and gave the "correct" answers. She also presented herself as his only lifeline when everyone was his enemy.
Callisto: male lead syndrome + similar to Iklies his traumatic past and loss of loved ones might have resulted in attachment issues and overprotectiveness/possessiveness

This is a horrible page, it's freaking amazing and all it makes me do is want to freaking read more Penny and Shrike all over again. (╥_╥) The world building you did was really good and the lore was sooo fascinating, I wished there was more. I just re-read Shrike becos of this and man, it's still as good as the previous 4 times I read it.
I can't wait to dig into more about Penny's past, her family and swordsmanship and more, I got a theory what happened to them but I don't wanna overthink it too much. I'll be honest, I loved the fact that the Duke was just (メ﹏メ) and (o_O) with the fact that Penny knows the Emperor. I can't wait to see Penny use the sword and fking surprise everyone.
I will say I like how you played around more with Vinter instead of making it straight up Callisto. I understand where fans love Callisto cos he really believes that he has nothing to live for when she dies, but he did kill Penny the most in the time loops and tried again in the beginning of the manwha version. Vinter also tried killing her for the first time when she sneaked in to play with the children but Penny's at fault there cos she trespassed while Callisto just was wary tho he had reasons. But I understand where Vinter fked up with his arc not trusting Penny cos of her power but man, he did so much for her in the end and I wanna cry cos he got disregarded as the second male lead. The part that made my heart throb was when he gave Penny the poison thinking that it was for Yvonne, but didn't care, was willing to cover for Penny and planned to never help Yvonne if it took away Penny's happiness, and trusted her immediately when she said not to trust Yvonne. (;´༎ຶٹ༎ຶ`) So I'm really happy with what you've done.
I love this page and can't wait to see where you'll head with this story. (≧◡≦) ♡
Thank you for reading Shrike, I'm glad you enjoyed it ^^ And don't worry, the slow pace is because I'm trying to sprinkle in lore liberally and adding double meanings to 80% of the chapter.
To be honest, I wanted to skip directly to the "Penny using a sword and surprising everyone" part but noo T-T
Thank you for your thoughts on Winter and Callisto :) I'm happy that you like me giving Winter a larger role in the story. To be perfectly honest, I only really like og!Penelope now(though once a Calliope stan) but the "obsessive, will kill for you" love that Callisto shows Siyeon in the manhwa is something that I felt was exclusive to Siyeon unless in extenuating circumstances. It was her "interestingness"(i gag) that drew Callisto in, how "she's not like other noble ladies" that dragged him in further.
Again, 99.9% of my stuff is for og!Penelope, so there would be a significant difference than if, hypothetically Siyeon was the protagonist of Shrike. There are also worlds of differences between how the MLs treat Penelope and Siyeon, so in the first place, interactions will be very different.
Winter operates on the "love interest that's too late and lost his chance" path in the greater meta, but I'm not gonna spoil anything further shhhh ( ̄b ̄)
I hope you continue to read and enjoy Shrike! It's my beloved baby, and I'm super excited every time there's a comment on AO3 or a tumblr ask :))

Imperial Domesticity: Provocation and Conciliation
Many a woman had thrown themselves at the Emperor Callisto Regulus but none got under the skin of the Imperial family, or of the Empire as a whole so much as the nuisance of Nausica. The Nausica debacle as told from the eyes of the Crown Prince of Nausica and the perpetrator’s elder brother.
It took some time before Nausica truly felt the hit of the sanctions the Empire imposed on them. It started slowly, like a trickle, a small hole in a dam that gradually ate away at the integrity of the structure. But it all built up to the point where they were beginning to feel the squeeze.
The advisors all begged the King to send some kind of appeasement, an apology, for their Princess’ actions but he was resolute in it. The Queen felt her daughter had done nothing wrong while the Princess herself felt unrepentant and in fact felt slighted and wronged.
Both of the Princes had spoken against their father’s inaction because as much as they loved their sister, they knew that the Emperor’s actions were justified. The Emperor who, as they’d seen when they’d represented their small kingdom at the wedding all those years ago, was wholly and completely in love with his wife. No, it wasn’t just that. The Emperor, war mad and brutal as he was, was obsessed with the Empress.
The very same Empress who’d just given the Emperor two more daughters to the monarch’s delight. It was said that he’d had all the bells rung throughout the Capital and thrown a great celebration when the Empress had recovered. It was also said that the Emperor stayed by her bedside, leaving only for the most pressing meetings, or to entertain their daughters.
If that wasn’t an indication about how devoted a husband the Emperor was, they didn’t know what would prove it. The man spent every night in the Empress’ chambers, sought her at all hours of the day, and given how frequent they had children, there was no doubt that they were particularly amorous. And also… as pretty as their sister was, both Princes agreed that she was no match for the Empress’ ethereal beauty.
All of this should have meant that they’d tread carefully, common sense told them not to incur the wrath of the very Emperor who had crushed armies and levelled entire cities, tearing down kingdoms as the war changed from the retaliation of the smaller kingdoms’ attacks to a war of conquest and expansion.
Prince Julius still remembered the day their army was defeated. When his father had been forced to kneel in front of the then Crown Prince, who, at the age of seventeen had torn through the walls that protected their city and marched in to the palace.
The golden hair was dirtied with grime, flecks of blood on his face, red eyes cold and dark. He shivered at the thought. He’d been a child then. His younger brother, Vincent had only been four at the time, and mother had been pregnant with Bianchi.
When he’d seen the Emperor next, he was harsher, and quite proud of his triumph as he marched his army back to the Imperial Capital as a war hero. His brutal reputation had begun then. And then tales of his lover being the Mad Dog of the Eckhart had made it’s round, the way he reacted when she’d been poisoned, even almost forsaking his place as the heir to the throne so as not to leave her side. And then… then his coronation, his eyes were alive, warm and soft, eyes staring into the crowd. At the beautiful magenta haired woman who was apparently the Saviour of the Empire, Lady Penelope Eckhart.
After that, it was the Imperial Wedding. Five years after the coronation. The Emperor’s face was one of utter love struck devotion as she walked down the aisle. A look of jubilant love on the lady’s face as she practically glided through the halls, resplendent in her clothing, radiant in love, enhancing her already exquisite beauty transforming it into something so divine, he’d fallen in love (as did his little brother).
He remembered the grin on the Emperor’s face, his body leaning towards the Lady at all times, body touching her at all times even if it was a mere brush of skin. The way their eyes never left one another throughout the festivities, as they danced around the halls and never left one another’s side. The Duke was weeping throughout the night at his ‘baby’s’ wedding.
Both Eckhart lords were frowning, clear disapproval for the match. Disapproval for the Emperor that was apparently shared by the Duke who believed no man was good enough for his daughter. They wanted the Lady to be the Empress without an Emperor, or rather, be the Emperor herself.
All told, it was very clear that there was one thing that should never, ever, be harmed. The Empress and her children. The Emperor seemed not to care for others perception of him, but the Empress was not something to be slandered. And his little sister did just that. She’d offered herself up as a replacement Empress over the one she’d seen as ‘defective’ for her womb’s inability to produce a son.
In one letter, she’d done the remarkable thing of managing to insult directly and indirectly, the entire imperial family. And it had nearly come to war. A war that he knew they’d have no chance of winning. Peter Cook, their ambassador, had made that clear. It was only averted because of the Empress’ intervention.
Still, Father refused to punish Bianchi, refused to send an apology, even if it was merely lip service. His pride was large. And now, months down the line, their people were now suffering the effects as the supplies began to dwindle, as the economy itself began to fall without the exports and imports of certain goods.
People were beginning to grow anxious and dissatisfied. What were they going to do?
“Why don’t you send me, Father.” Bianchi suggested. “I’ll apologize in person.”
Julius watched her wearily, his eyes meeting Vincent’s. When their father approved. He felt some dread pooling in him.
“Let Vincent and I go along as well to act as her escorts.” He added, hands trembling at the thought that his sister was planning something. Thankfully, his father had agreed to it as well.
-
-
Now here he was. The Imperial palace drew closer and closer. Bianchi fixed her hair then began to fuss over her clothing. She spoke about seeing the Emperor, gushing about him and his achievements throughout the entire month long journey.
“Don’t get any notions.” He’d warned. “You’re here to apologize and nothing more.”
“Oh, of course, brother.” She said with a wave of her hand. “Besides, what kind of notions would I get?”
He remained quiet. It was clear that she was angling for a compliment and he didn’t bother to entertain such foolishness. The longevity, no not even that, immediate future of their Kingdom depended on this going well. “Be on your best behaviour.”
Perhaps he should have gone and ridden on the guard with Vincent. But it was too late now. And they were already at the Palace’s gates. When the carriage drew to a stop and they’d stepped out, he could see the visible disappointment in his sister’s face when it was the Emperor’s chief aide that came to greet them and to lead them to throne room. It wasn’t out of the norm. They may be the highest in their kingdom, but this was the Empire and they were little more than ants before the mighty war machine that was the Imperial Army.
As they walked through the grand and tastefully decorated halls of the Sun Palace, his sister looked around with covetous eyes. He had an inkling of what was going to happen and prayed that he was wrong. Surely his sister wasn’t so… so foolish as to try and flirt with the Emperor in front of the Empress while the man himself was still burning in fury. And yes, he knew the Emperor’s make, the man was the type to hold grudges.
When they were announced in, there was a slew of nobles gathered around the throne room. Whispers abounded. This wasn’t atypical per se, but there was a clear and heavy expectation. The golden Emperor sat on the throne with his beautiful Empress at his side, the customary gap in their thrones was absent, it was pressed up together and they held hands.
They bowed before the thrones as they said their greetings.
“Rise.” The Emperor commanded, voice strong and unyielding. His eyes took in their party.
Lord Peter Cook coughed nervously and indicated to the Bianchi with his eyes. His sister was staring at the Emperor hungrily while he stared back with barely hidden contempt. Brow raised as he tapped a finger on his throne. It was silent within the room, the only sound was constant and impatient tapping from the Emperor.
Vincent subtly elbowed Bianchi.
“Your Majesties,” Bianchi said, voice holding the slightest simper, “I apologize for the insult I gave towards the Empress and the Imperial Princesses through that letter I meant in jest. Please, forgive this foolish one, and spare my people your benevolent mercy.”
The Emperor looked unsatisfied and for a moment, Julius feared that he would decline it and order them all killed. Thankfully, the Empress turned to the Emperor, raising the hand that was entwined with hers and she kissed it, his face and eyes softened immediately as he turned to the Empress before he sighed.
“I shall accept that completely unsatisfactory apology and extend mercy upon the people of Nausica.” He declared. “Only because my beloved, darling Empress wished for it.”
He sighed, thankful to the Empress. His heart calmed in one way but was enflamed in another. The beautiful, kind, Empress was a woman of an ideal standard that was hard to find. Oh if only his sister had half of her sense then they wouldn’t be in this state.
-
-
His sister ranted when she’d been let into their apartment. “It was surely that the Empress had forbidden the Emperor from greeting me at the steps!” She declared angrily.
“And why?” His brother asked.
“Because she’s threatened by me.”
Vincent burst into peals of laughter. “What would she have to be threatened by?”
“Because I’m younger and prettier, my blood is pure and noble, unlike hers. And, I’m not a witch like she is.”
Vincent stared at her in disbelief. “Younger? Oh yes, you’re practically a child in comparison to the Emperor and Empress, but prettier? That’s debatable. And as for her blood… she is the last of the Ancient Mages, who, now that the Laila is gone, has been verified as the protectors of the Empire, and touted, traditionally as higher than the nobles, as per the tenets of the Empire’s founding. In short, she is higher in blood than any of us, save for the Emperor.”
Bianchi glared at them venomously. “I still maintain that she’s using magic to keep in her thrall.”
“Doubtful.” Julius said. “The Emperor spent days away from the Empress while she studied and got her degree, not to mention while she dedicated herself to research. Such magics can’t be sustained through such a long period of time and through such distance. Furthermore, the Emperor had been mad for her even when she was on the brink of death from the Laila’s poisoning.” He reasoned.
But she remained resolutely firm in her convictions.
-
-
There were many, many close calls after that. His sister was prone to vitriol and as the second highest ranking woman in the Kingdom, who would dare censor her for it? Certainly not their mother or father. But, as he’d pointed out time and again, this was not the kingdom.
He saw the way the Emperor’s nose flared, his hands going to his side and clenching nothing but air as his sword was nowhere to be found. In those moments, one of two things would happen. Either the Empress would appear or…
“Servant Emperor!” The almost eleven year old Crown Princess called out, flying through the air. His face immediately softened, the dark and dangerous look in his eyes nowhere to be found as a look of utter adoration crossed his face and he raised his arms to catch the child.
They were a tangle of gold as they hugged. Golden wings glinting in the light. No one reacted to the humiliating nickname the Crown Princess had used, that the other children had also used for their father. The Emperor seemed to have forgotten everything that had angered him, or rather, he’d forgotten the rest of the world as he walked away from the humiliating display that his sister had put on, and focused only on speaking with his daughter who chattered about the most mundane things, of bunnies found and bugs caught.
-
-
Other incidents happened, and other children came forth, distracting the Emperor. One time, it was the crying of his new born daughters that had the Emperor rushing away before his sister could even reach him. He carried both bundles in his arms as he shushed them.
“And why are my little stars crying?” He said in a gentle and soft voice. “This Papa will destroy anything that upsets you.”
It wasn’t meaningless and empty words. Those were words of a promise.
“And Papa will subjugate any that dares to cross you and your sisters. I’ll erase any unsightly thing you may encounter.”
He shivered at the dark promises.
“You really don’t hold yourself back on anything, do you? You should take care of what you say around the children.” The Empress’ voice rang out.
They turned around to see the Empress walking gracefully through the path almost as though she were floating on air, it was sheer elegance and poise. The Emperor immediately went to her side, pressing a kiss to her hair.
“My love,” He said, breathless. She took one babe into her arms while the Emperor remained holding the other, pulling her in close and escorting her away from them.
They were used to such things. The Emperor could often be found with the Empress, embracing her, touching her, clinging to her, practically attached to her.
(He didn’t know that at the end of the day, and sometimes even in between, the Empress would ‘reward’ the Emperor for another day without spilling the blood of the nuisance of Nausica. The Emperor, eternally hungry for his wife, complied with great difficulty.)
-
-
They were turned away from negotiations once more. Lord Cook had told him that Bianchi’s behaviour was putting the nobles off from any sort of agreements. And tensions were rising as his sister continued to toe the line between offence and decency.
“I love our sister.” Vincent said. “But…”
“But her behaviour has become so outlandish beyond any shred of politeness.” He finished.
“Yes, and we have to figure out a way to extract her from the palace before any truly lasting damage can be done.”
“Maybe sending her away for awhile, or… marriage to some lord.” He said thought it sat bitter in his tongue, he loathed the thought of marrying her off but the kingdom needed to come first. And he could find her an advantageous match.
As they passed through a corridor, they found the Emperor, he was walking quietly, almost as though he were creeping. They froze. And watched on as he approached the clueless Empress who was taking her tea while reading a book, all five of their daughters were scattered around her, sleeping on the picnic blanket. The Emperor immediately dropped behind her, a hand snaking around her stomach and the other going to cover her eyes as he dipped his head and pulled her back slightly until they kissed.
They were too far away to hear what was being said but the gentle smile on their faces said all that they needed to know. They turned and walked away quietly.
-
-
During the Imperial functions, the Emperor never left the Empress’ side. They danced together as many times as the Empress could take before retiring to their thrones. When they socialized with the other nobles, they were never too far away from one another. The nobles looked on with fond amusement.
“They truly are such a sweet couple.” One of the ladies said, gushing. “The Emperor’s love for the Empress had won her over eventually.”
“Oh, you mean the love triangle between Marquis Verdandi, Lady Penelope, and the Crown Prince.” Another had said.
“Yes, the Marquis’ reputation was so different from the Crown Prince’s but it seemed that he lost that race.”
He could see his sister perk up at the gossip. She listened on closer.
“The Crown Prince had been rumoured to stalk the Lady for awhile after their breakup, but eventually they got back together. Especially after her coming of age when the Laila poisoned her.”
One of the matrons reminded them. Adding to the gossip. “I remember that. It was such a beautiful ceremony until she began to cough up blood. And then the Emperor was by her side in a second, pulling her into his arms and begging her to stay with him. He’d also pushed Lord Derrick Eckhart from the Dias because he was in the way, staring on frozen.”
“Were it not for the horror of it all, it would’ve been romantic.”
“But it was a testament to his love for the Lady. He refused to eat or sleep while he remained at her bedside. And it was said that he’d even returned to wearing his sword so that he may follow after her in death should she never have awakened.”
That was… it was a horrifying thing to think of. To be so consumed by someone they would willingly take their life just to be with them again. Especially from someone like the Emperor who’d torn down entire kingdoms who refused to bend the knee.
They switched to different topics until it finally landed on Bianchi.
“How shameless the Princess is.” They said with conspiratorial voices.
Bianchi’s face became blank.
“To throw herself at a married man who is a devoted and loving husband and doting father. She really must be desperate.”
“A true embarrassment.”
Her face became red with anger. She stormed off.
When they caught up to her in the gardens, she was throwing things around. “How dare those… those lowly women say such things about me?” She spat out. “They’re nothing but nobles, I’m a princess.”
And then she went into a tirade about the women, the Empress, and the Empire at large, citing everything she would change once she was the Empress. Julius physically dragged her to their apartments, a hand over her mouth.
“Be quiet.” He hissed. “And don’t say such things out in the open.” He chastised her. “This isn’t the kingdom. Everything has ears here.”
-
-
The tea party that Bianchi attended was no better. The Crown Princess attended with her mother and aunts. Both from the maternal family, and her father’s cousin’s wife, Lady Alice.
The ladies were all having a good time, ignoring the pointed words of Bianchi who sat with Lady Cook and the other wives of the dignitaries when it happened.
Perhaps frustrated by the fact that she wasn’t the focal point of the tea party but the little princess was, she lashed out.
“Well, at least I’d never birth an abomination like her.” She said. The whole table fell into an eerie silence. The Emperor had been walking by with them when this happened. The Crown Princess looked as though she’d been struck, she shook beside her mother. “Those unsightly, demonic wings of her and that unnaturalness born from her magic. She’s a cursed child.”
Given their rankings, her other side was taken up by the Empress who stood she poured the warm tea on her, dousing her from head to toe before she dropped the tea pot, letting it shatter on the ground by Bianchi’s feet. She then reached her hand back and slapped his sister hard enough that her head turned sharply, the sound reverberated around.
“How dare you!” The Empress said, voice filled with venom. “How dare you say that about my child! You churlish, ill mannered, shameless hussy.”
She pulled Bianchi to her feet by the fabric of her dress, and despite being shorter than Bianchi, she seemed to tower over her in spirit.
“I’ve tried to be courteous and accommodating because the people of your kingdom are innocent of your actions, turned the other cheek when you disparage me, distract and temper my husband’s anger at your blatant disrespect of me. But you go to far with insulting my daughter.”
She pushed her to the ground, away from the shattered pot. Stepping on it purposefully and grounding it to dust. “I pity your citizens to have such a narrow minded, wanton, immoral, and immodest woman as a princess. An insipid woman who thinks herself clever and better than others by virtue of blood, when truly, you’re nothing more than a plain faced, foolish, dull witted child who wasn’t raised right. My daughters are far younger than you and yet they behave kinder and more modest despite their obviously superior bloodline and status.”
She leaned down, grabbing her face and making her look her in the eye. “I suppose I shouldn’t have expected anything more from you, ‘twas really my mistake that I had even any expectations that you weren’t as self absorbed and shallow as the rumours made you out to be. But it turns out you were nothing more than a vapid brat clinging to your daddy’s skirts and title, with an over inflated sense of self importance and a half baked idea that you were someone anyone here would look up to or welcome. After all, who’d want a woman so blatantly throwing themselves at another woman’s husband as their Empress? You with your so called superior blood who’s never worked a day in her life, never understood the real world, nor had any so called accomplishments will never be even a third of the woman my Judith will grow up to be.”
And then she let her go, walking towards where the little princess was crying in her father’s arms, as her aunts and the other ladies converged on her.
“Callisto.” The Empress said, using his name rather than his title.
“My beloved?” He asked as he stood up with Princess Judith in his arms.
“Tighten the noose. I want a full embargo on Nausica.” She said coldly. “I’m done playing nice. Let their people suffer for all I care. And if they try anything… crush them.”
“With great pleasure, Love.” And then he turned to them, face set in a black fury.
“Prince Julius, you have an hour to pack your things. Three to get out of the capital, and three weeks to make it to your kingdom. I want that filthy thing out of my Empire.” He said as he looked at where Bianchi was laying on the floor, her cheek red and slightly bleeding from a cut made by the Empress’ wedding ring.
The Empress spoke up again. “Lady Cook, owing to our acquaintanceship, you and the rest of our ladies may tell your husbands that you’ve two weeks to set your affairs in order.”
And then they walked off. The Emperor stopped briefly when he passed Bianchi. “You’re the type of woman I despise the most. Uppity, ignorant, brainless, shrill, egotistical, and useless. You are so much more, and none of them are good. Nor are you even half as attractive as my wife.”
And then they were gone. Every single one of the ladies clearly giving her the cut.

Judith was ensconced in her parents arms as she cried. Mama was running soothing circles on her back, caressing her wings, and humming gently.
“I’m a-an abomination.” She said through her snuffles.
“You aren’t.” Servant said fiercely. “You’re our perfect little girl. That filth was the abomination.”
“Bu…but…”
“My little baby.” Mama said softly, reassuring. “You are a perfect little dragonling, a special existence not seen in thousands of years. A child whose existence was so precious and important, I dreamt of you even before you were born, I dreamt of your beloved self even before I’d truly grasped and confirmed what it was. And I’ve loved you from the moment I found out about you.”
“I did too. From the moment your mother told me she was pregnant with you, you became another focal point in my life. My little stars and planets that orbit my beloved moon.” Servant told her. “My little girl who made me a father and taught me so many things about love that I’d only begun to learn from your mother. You showed me an entirely new side of myself I didn’t even know existed.”
“And what if… what if I don’t want to be some special dragon who’s supposed to achieve the great success?” She asked hesitantly through another wave of tears as her mind spun around those awful words.
“Then you won’t and you can become whatever you want.” Servant reassured her.
“Your father and I will do anything for you to be able to live the life you wish, to chase whatever passion and dream you and your sisters have.” Mama swore.
The door banged open and they all startled. Uncle Reynold came in with the rest of the family.
“Have you truly been raised in a barn? You should knock first.” Servant said dryly.
“I don’t care for that right now, I was told that the bi…tter witch insulted Judy!” He declared.
Judith nodded. “She said I was an abomination because of my wings and my magic.”
“An abomination?!? You aren’t an abomination! You’ve been perfect from the moment you were born. Just like your sisters. Which is surprising given your parents.” Uncle Reynold said passionately as he swooped in and gave her a bear hug that Roxanne and Diana joined in on.
“Your uncle is right. If anything, that woman is the freak of nature to be so spiteful.” Grandpa said. “While you are a perfect, sweet, and beloved little girl.”
And then she was engulfed in another hug filled with aunts and uncles, and parents, and sisters, and even grandpa. Gradually, her heart began to feel better, even if those words still remained trapped in her mind. (It would be for years, some self doubt coming back from time to time but pushed away by her family’s love.)
-
-
Bianchi snapped to her senses when he and Vincent had roughly thrown her into the carriage.
“Why didn’t you speak up?” She demanded, nursing her cheek. “How dare you let them disrespect me thusly? You saw that she clearly assaulted me!”
“ENOUGH!!!” He roared, his patience had run out. She flinched, shrinking back. “Have you any idea what you’ve just done?”
“What I’ve just done? I’ve done nothing wrong. We should send word to father to ready the troops and…”
“And get laughed at by everyone. The generals will all commit mutiny if father even so much as hints at attacking the Empire. Especially after what you’ve just done to our people.” And then he wrenched back the curtains and showed her the rest of the entourage. The Eckhart Dukedom had joined the Imperial Soldiers in escorting them out of the Empire, setting a brutal pace for them.
“The Eckhart Dukedom alone has twice if not more than that in terms of soldiers. We’d be crushed by them alone. If we even manage to survive the coming winter without enough food and medicines, hell, without enough winter clothes and other such supplies coming in from the Empire.” And then Julius hardened himself to the tears that were about to leak from her eyes.
“I expect you to be silent and repent for your actions for the duration of our trip. And I will speak to father personally about what shall be done with you.”
-
-
The embargo was in full effect by the time they had arrived. Their trade was effectively shut off, and for a kingdom locked within the land and surrounded not by harbours but by other smaller protectorate kingdoms of the Empire, they found themselves unwelcome by all of its neighbours.
Father had received a scathing letter from the Emperor before they had even reached the castle and he’d been incensed. It was truly the first time he’d yelled at Bianchi, the first time she’d ever been punished, and all of her demands met. Mother had begged and pleaded, trying to cajole father into letting up on her confinement within her room, but he wouldn’t budge.
But there was nothing to be done as the days began to turn, growing colder and shorter. Fall had arrived and winter would be here soon after. They needed the Empire’s goods if they wished to survive, and they needed to offload their own goods.
It led to the necessities rising far beyond what their people could afford, a famine truly beginning to seep in, and their own goods flooded their market squares going for cheaper than they were being produced. Their land was largely unsuited to farming, only small pockets had soil fertile enough to produce a small amount of crops.
The people’s dissatisfaction grew by the day, the streets poised to riot at the smallest spark. A council was called daily but no clear resolution was given, at least none that father was satisfied with.
“There is no appeasing the Emperor now that the Empress herself has declared that she was done with us. The Empress is thick skinned but as a mother, she clearly drew the line on who such words could be directed to.” Lord Cook said from where he sat. He had the most insight to the Imperial family.
“Then what would you have me do? Banish my daughter? Strip her of her own title?” Father asked sharply.
“Yes.” Lord Cook said firmly. “She caused this, and, short of execution, that may be the only way to appease them. Marry her off to a noble man of low rank, a baron at the most, or an untitled gentleman, one who’s loyal enough to take care of her, and with at least some modicum of means that she won’t starve. But they need to be someone who’s firm enough to take her in hand and curtail her behaviour.”
“You.. do you even know what you’re saying?”
“I do.” The man said, not even flinching. “I’ve seen the Empress, met her. I know she hates the thought of bloodshed, but if it were for her children’s sake, she’d gladly permit the Emperor to wage war.”
“You speak as though the Emperor was beneath her.” Lord Garth said shrewdly.
“Not beneath her.” Lord Cook corrected. “But her words are the only ones the Emperor needs to make a decision, his love and respect for his wife supersedes anything.”
Father sighed. “She’s my little girl.”
“She’s a liability whose behaviour was never corrected.” Lord Sheen said.
“Your majesty, it’s either this or the gallows. And this way she’ll live. This way, we can avert the revolt that seems to be brewing on the streets. Our very survival depends on this.” Lord Marshall said as he gave Father a piece of paper. “We can’t even muster any troops. It seems that the Eckhart army and the Imperial army have begun to station men around our borders in case we get any ideas. This may end up far worse than what happened with the Delman’s revolt.”
Father swallowed thickly. “Have you a groom in mind?”
“Baron Tavin.”
He winced, the old general was kind and spirited despite his injury. He was a war hero and one who had a small and profitable land. But he was almost twice his sister’s age, with a scarred face. He was gruff and brusque, tough but fair, and not likely to take any of his sister’s tantrums.
“Very well.”
-
-
Mother had shrieked and begged and pleaded that Bianchi would be spared such a fate but Father had stood his ground. Even when Bianchi wailed about the unfairness of it all, he didn’t falter.
“This is a consequence of your own doing.” He told her coldly, his tone that of a king about to pass judgement. “You will come with me for a quick trip to the Empire where you will apologize, and then we will leave within the hour. You would then be brought in to wed the day after we arrive and leave for your new home the day after.”
He knew it was hard for father to do so, but it couldn’t be helped.
When Mother had collapsed on the ground, Father looked at her with some remorse. “I made a choice, and that was to make sure the kingdom would be around for Julius to inherit.”
Before all of this, his sister could have married a prince or king of one of the protectorates, but now, her prospects were gone, her future sealed into one unalterable path.
“It was this or death.”
-
-
He went with Father and Bianchi as they returned to the Empire, finding nothing but cold disdain from the people once they discovered that his sister was with them. Already, the sordid tales of her unsavoury and wanton behaviour had spread far and wide. The way she’d thrown herself so immodestly at the Emperor, the way she insulted the Empress, and the way she had disparaged and slandered their innocent and beloved golden dragon who was said to be the one fated to lead them into another era of peace and prosperity.
When they arrived at the Palace, there was a stony silence as the nobles began to turn away, one by one as Bianchi passed. She stood behind them as they walked, and though her face turned red, she remained silent.
The Emperor and Empress’ eyes were filled with icy venom.
He and Father immediately knelt, the two of them dragging Bianchi down within them when she remained standing.
“Please, please, have mercy on my people. Please forgive my daughter’s words and any injury done by her words and deeds.”
“…”
Neither of the Imperial couple spoke.
Father continued. “We’ve already decided on a punishment for her.”
Still, they were silent.
“She’ll be wed to a Baron twice her age, one who’s firm and won’t bend to her whims. She’ll be sent off to the mountainous region of our kingdom, and she’ll lose her title.”
“Has she nothing to say?” The Empress asked, voice soft but powerful.
He dug his nails into his sister’s arm when she huffed. She hissed, glaring at him.
“I apologize for what I’ve said about the Princess, it wasn’t fair or kind to her.” She said. Refusing to add anything more to it.
The Empress’ eyes narrowed. “I think, to add to the punishment… Miss Bianchi shall not only lose her title, but her claim to the throne. No descendant of hers shall ever inherit the throne. Nor should she receive any money from the Royal family. Any money given to the Baron would be for the Baron and his lands, not for her.”
“And…” The Emperor said as he braced his chin on the palm of his hand. “As her behaviour isn’t fit for anyone who’s been considered ‘out’ yet, she’ll be confined to her husband’s lands for a period of three years, and unable to leave the region, save for an emergency, for a period of no less than ten years. The only other time she’ll be able to enter the capital in those ten years will be if she were to attend a funeral of a close kin, and that’s it.”
There was a stunned silence at the severity added to her punishment, and while he felt bad for his sister, he was thankful they weren’t forced to pay monetarily as well or by sacrificing their already limited fertile lands to the Empire as reparations.
“You may take your leave.” The Emperor said as he stood, helping his wife up to her feet as well. “Lord Therocy will act as a witness to the wedding and to make sure that the marriage was properly consummated the next day. You may return here, Prince Julius, along with the dignitaries sent away earlier to begin the negotiations to lift the embargo and return to trade.”
“Yes, your majesty.” At least they’d gotten what they came here for.
As they passed by, the doors were opened and the telltale sounds of children’s laughter could be heard. He saw the Crown Princess running down the halls with a smile on her face, chased after by her nannies.
Honestly though, I had intended this to be Callisto’s pov originally, but I guess I wanted to show the way the princess’ behaviour had impacted an entire nation instead. And as for Bianchi and getting away with everything… she was your, I don’t know, typical spoiled brat who got away with everything. I mean, OG Penny suffered from abuse inside and outside of the Duchy and was punished quite often, even if her behaviour was frequently swept under the rug by the Duke bribing everyone. But Bianchi was a true princess, they couldn’t even say anything against her, and… she was the golden child.

{Mild rant moment}
I need to get this out of my system, after a talk I had with some mutuals of mine (happy to say we all agree on this), and it contains novel spoilers, I warned you. No this post does not contain humor or jokes like my usual posts, it is just me giving a take on what exactly is going on in the Vadd fandom because some people seem to be reading a completely different novel/manhwa than most, like @seirclys mentioned, and I couldn’t agree more.
I often see people defending Ecklies, (or whatever the hell you wanna call him), saying ‘but he’s innocent/ poor baby🥺👉🏻👈🏻’ sis- this man is anything but innocent/innocuous/oblivious , this man is SMART.
I’m not saying this as a compliment, he is smart because you see how well he hides his real intentions and twisted nature, from when he literally betrayed his fellow people; brought Yvonne (aka Leila) back to the duchy after everything Penelope did for him, effectively backstabbing her, because he wanted to make her solely depend on him, (obsessive nature).
He tried to kidnap Penelope when she turned down his offer to ‘run away together’ and decided to ‘follow Leila’ (kinda?) so he could have Penelope by his side
Still like @seirclys mentioned in a similar post to this, do you really think that Leila would’ve let Penelope live when she is the only one that can actively stop her schemes and defeat her? Not a chance, keep dreaming.
Also- another thing I see, that makes me want to violently bang my head against the nearest solid surface for the sheer stupidity of it, is ‘he has wasted potential/the author did him dirty/ the author made a mistake-bad choice when they made Callisto the male lead’
1. What wasted potential are we exactly talking about?? Where? Please enlighten me.
•Every story plot is thought through before being published or written. Every character has their role, and in his case, Ecklies was designed to be the ‘twisted/ dark/ obsessive character’ (kinda like an antagonist) from the very start. Otherwise we would’ve seen a very different outcome, don’t you think?
2. Stop saying that the author did a mistake or a bad choice! That’s disrespectful.
•The author has put in much work in the novel, and then someone random comes and takes a shit on that. Literally one of the most disrespectful things I’ve seen people comment. The author made that choice, respect it. You don’t like it? Don’t comment and move on, or write your own original story- Wattpad and Ao3 are free, who knows maybe a lot of people will like your story.
3. Callisto was created to be the male lead. Every character fills their purpose and role.
•I know I jest around a lot when it comes to Callisto, but jokes aside, he really did do some fucked-up shit and his ways weren’t really ‘it’ the first time he interacted with Penelope, but we see him have a growth (humanly speaking), and we learn why he did what he did, can’t say that I approve of some of his ways, but he actually had a motive. He also has something called character development, what some like to ignore completely.
Another good example of character development we see in the story is Reynold, who might not be the best, but he has a nice redemption and growth throughout the arc of the story. That is how you make a character redeemable. (Can’t say I forgive his actions, but at least he tried to make amends for the shit he has done).
What makes me really laugh is seeing ‘Ecklies is innocuous baby and Callisto is the bad guy’. Again- are we even reading the same story anymore?? Ma’am- Ecklies makes Callisto’s crazy moment look innocent. What are you talking about?? At least Callisto didn’t try to kidnap Penelope, nor did he backstab her. Need I remind you that Callisto was literally on the verge of death but he still put Penelope first and was willing to let her go because that’s what she wanted?? Now THIS is real love.
-And reminder that Ecklies followed/stalked Penelope around for three years (in the side stories) because he wanted to kill her:
Tumblr media
How can you really say that he’s the good guy after this??
And for the ones who keep on insisting that it was Penelope’s/ Syieon’s fault because ‘she used him’ you selectively decide to remember that. Ecklies also used and tried to manipulate her.
They used each other. With Syieon choosing to raise his favorability because he was the apparently ‘easiest target’ out of the five morons that are the male leads, to Ecklies that hated everything that Penelope/Siyeon was and wanted to make her rely on him only so his twisted tendencies could thrive. You see how toxic all this trash-fire is? Would you honestly like that?
I say that Penelope did a good choice when she rejected him, I would too. Ecklies scares me shitless and in her place, I would be terrified of him. He literally can kill her at anytime even without meaning to. He just needs to lash out ONCE, even unintentionally, and it’s game over for Penelope.
I know that people like it because it’s fiction, but there is something that attracts/appeals you for you to like it, and this brings me to the question- would you really like to have a relationship like that? Please stop romanticizing toxic/abusive relationships, be it fiction or not.
I also noticed that there are a ton of other different manhwas that have the male lead do similar things to Callisto, however people seem to fly over that completely. Why is that you may ask? I’ll tell you- it’s because Ecklies is good looking, and appeals aesthetically to the reader. His good looks can’t compensate for what he did.
DISCLAIMER: I don’t care what you ship, just stay out of my little bubble and keep your hate and spite to yourself. The real problem manifests when:
-people romanticize toxic/abusive/obsessive relationships and push it onto others, sometimes actively being rude to other people for the ships they like.
-go out of your way to make a good character look bad only to make your favorite pass as ‘baby/cute/innocent’ (who is considerably worse). And politely, stop looking for excuses to make a character look terrible just because you dislike them.
-take a shit on the author’s hard work; again, go write your own story if you don’t like it.
-spread misinformation and false spoilers that mislead others.
Yes, this is absolutely a *side-eye* to someone. Idc.
With this I conclude my rant for the moment- might update later.

Welcome to the Last Part of the Incomplete Tour of the Eckhart Estate!
I finally have a chance to gush on and on and on about their greenhouse hehe. Not going to hide any of my obsessiveness, jealousy, or other dark emotions any longer! I've warned you!
The greenhouse is freaking huge and simultaneously the most amazing thing I've ever seen?! It has a strict competition with Derrick's study and I... I think... I might actually like the greenhouse more...
I mean here, look for yourself!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
OMG
It's outline is gold and silver and it's got a holy amount of light, ok? And look! Look how bright it is even when it's raining out! There's actual chandeliers hanging from the greenhouse roof goddammit, butterflies and wildflowers live here, and as if the flowers and greenery from the garden inside it and the nature it's surrounded by on the outside wasn't enough, they even have shelves lined neatly with the PERFECT AMOUNT of flowers in pots to enhance the look!
Tumblr media
Whoever the designer of this estate is in that world is my one true love. Goodbye, Callisto. I'm so done here.
LIKE
EVEN THE DOORS TO THE GREENHOUSE MAKE ME UGLY WITH JEALOUSY!!!
Tumblr media
WHO?!
WHO NEEDS DOORS THAT HUGE?! EVER?! IS THERE ANY HUMAN DOUBLE PENNY'S SIZE WHEN THE CALLISTO REGULUS ISN'T?!
Hnnggggggg I hate being jealous. MOVING ON!!
Can we talk abour how Penelope glows here, even when she's fake smiling? How she looks even more gorgeous than usual? Absolutely swell? And how so necessary it was for Callisto to meet her in the greenhouse and see how beautiful she looks for himself too?
LO AND BEHOLD PENNY! IN THE GREENHOUSE EDITION!!
Tumblr media
Of course Callisto proposed to her a second time seeing her here and asked her to move into his palace with him immediately. Anyone would.
Of course Duke Eckhart handed her a mine after seeing her in the greenhouse too. He probably wanted to see her covered in riches like all of us do. Anyone would.
Of course Derrick and Reynold didn't scold her for being late again to lunch like they did the first time they had lunch together. It makes sense that they remained shut up. Anyone would.
Of course Eckles couldn't hold back from reaching out and trying to touch her face despite knowing his place and full well that it wasn't something he should be doing. Anyone would.
Of course I just decided that I'm going to never stop talking about this from now on. Anyone would.
NEXT
Tumblr media
Looking at the floor here, it doesn't look like the dining table was placed on the Duke's orders for that one lunch, meaning that the greenhouse is large enough to have a garden, a full-fledged dining area, and a lawn and making it the largest greenhouse I have ever seen in any manhwa. I have 710 bookmarks at the current moment, so that's a HUGE achievement and really, really impressive.
On another note, look at Reynold in this picture. What the heck. Why does he look cute here too. Probably a greenhouse thing.
Also, look at the detailed design of the glass doors, the jewels hanging from the chandelier, the outside view, and how bright it is and the shape of the structure. It's just so beautiful that no matter how much appreciation I give it, it's not going to be enough.
Tumblr media
And counting the butterfly above, which is also behind the speech bubble that says "yes" in the image below, the butterfly behind the pot of flowers on the shelf and the faded orange-ish one on the left, we already have three different species of butterflies, but notice there isn't a single fly or ant or anything us humble earthlings have to deal with in our lives.
Tumblr media
The last thing I want to mention is that there's also floor lamps placed out here (one can be spotted on the left in the image of their dining table) along with the chandeliers and undoubtedly more as well, right? Just imagine how the greenhouse would look at night with all of them on!!! Hopefully we get to see it...
Anyway... That concludes everything I have on the Eckhart Estate! I would love to see the entire estate someday, even if it's just the exterior of the building -- the FULL exterior -- with details of the front and back and the path to the drill hall and the exact location and setting of the greenhouse shown as well.
If I made any mistakes anywhere, feel free to correct me!

Rating: 4.5/5
Book Blurb: “I don’t want to live like this either, only ever being despised.” Life in hard mode for “villain” Penelope Eckhart means with every step forward, she’s shoved five steps back. Just when things seem to be stabilizing between her and the brothers, she finds herself coming to blows with Reynold, who insists on dredging up the past―an affront Penelope refuses to take lying down. To make matters worse, she’s forced to attend the hunting tournament hosted by the crown prince…and Callisto + weapons = a recipe for DANGER!
Review:
Penelope Eckhart’s adventures in surviving the game she’s stuck in continues as she navigates difficult family relationships and the attentions of a very deranged prince. This book focuses on Penelope dealing with the difficult relationship she has with her brothers and father, especially with how they had treated her in the past and how she has to improve the relationship. Penelope already has so much on her plate especially with the new hunting event coming up and the fact that she has a new bodyguard who’s affections for her are starting to become obsessive. Can she continue to survive and what will she do when she is face to face with the most volatile character of the game who just happens to taken an interest in her? I’ve been having fun with these books, I have already read the story in the korean novel version but its great getting to read it in english and in graphic novel version. I always feel so bad for Penelope, having to deal with so many curve balls and difficult situations that are literally life or death if she fails. I adore Callisto and getting any chance to see him is fun ( ya’ll can’t even begin to believe how amazing he is, until the next novel!).

the younger sister pt.2
Tumblr media
-> warnings: yandere themes, platonic relationships, obsession, manipulation, derrick, many others things
->request by anon! Could you maybe make a part two of the younger sister ? I would greatly appreciate it if you do
->a/n: yes I can do it anon! going to be honest, i didn’t expect to anyone request a sequel so soon? But no worries sweet, not only I loved the concept that was gave to me, it enjoyed writing this one! so I hope you enjoy as well! link to part one
Tumblr media
-> it’s been a quiet time since she first got here as penelope and yet, she already loves to you like the original always did and promised to take care of you this time, promising to stay at your side til the end.
-> siyeon deeply care about her choices knowing that you are probably going to affected as well, so carefully she began to find a way to survive this life without dying and resulting you living that horrible way in every end. Firstly, she began to try eckles route while trying her best to teach you how to control your powers.
-> she thought to call winter to teach you about your magical abilities, but she knows better and since you deeply don’t like anyone ordering you most of the time ( she recall how you scared the many tutors in the routes ) and will never obey someone like winter, since the man himself fears you, but sometimes you okay with the others children.
-> when she moves to a better room in the main part of the building, penelope make sure to your bedroom being closer to her. She has to keep her eyes on you while doing anything else at the same time, she adores you of course, but she knows how you will do if anyone dare to hurt her. You once throw a bucket full on ice on Derrick and she knows you will do it again sometimes.
-> when the family is invited to the Impedial Palace, the Duke make sure to you act better than the usual ( “ don’t try kill anyone, specially the royal family” ) and to stay at his side no matter what not penelope, since he is afraid to what you might do under her eyes. With this, penelope had time to met callisto and to the event take place and you didn’t get hurt in the end.
-> soon the hunt competition happens and once again you are separated from penelope, this time staying with alice, a noble lady who don’t hate her and being in a closer age with you, alice easily befriend you, that’s good, but would be better if callisto hadn’t met you before they leave to hunt.
-> the crown prince got impressed with your magical abilities and request if he could get to see a little demonstration which you make a normal flower become a golden one, shocking and impressing him at the same time. You gave him the item as a charm and told him to take care of penelope in the meanwhile.
-> callisto become intrigued with you and your abilities, he saw many sorcerers, but none of them had such powerful abilities like you and he knows what adults are capable to get their hands on something like this. He then promised to penelope to take care of you if allowed, he fears that people will try the worst to get their hand on you, but he is a little relieved knowing that the Duke let you use your power without restrictions most of the time.
-> what penelope wants was peace, but ended being accused of murdering the prince and all that drama making her life going really bad. when locked inside that prison, you frequently visited her to tell about the accusers and update her in anything she desires. Derrick once show up and told you to stop penelope, but you ignored him, saying he is a fool to think he has control over your actions.
-> the trials made almost everyone against penelope in the beginning, but not you. You stay at her side and said your sister is innocent, speaking that someone else is behind of this messy, probably glorian and her family, but none dared to believe you, only the Duke and Reynold believed on you.
-> in the end, penelope was proved to be innocent and glorian and her affiliates were guilty by their actions, making you happily… even with your sister lying about her relationship with callisto. You were surprised when she said it during the trials, but she assured you that was all fake to create a good excuse to help her innocence, she let you visit callisto when he woke up.
-> seeing someone like callisto talking with you is a gentle breath to penelope. Not only you and the crown prince look good friends, interacting with the man who almost kill her is almost laughable. And she adores the Duke reaction when you told him that you are now friends with callisto, the man almost passed out.
-> she is happy knowing how drastically the future changed with her actions and that you are looking more alive than before. Penelope’s plans to level up eckles favorite seems to be working, yet he still has difficulty to approach you. according to him, he feels that you don’t need his protection compared to her. That’s quite interesting, but she didn’t question him why of that, after all not only that sound an awkward interaction with him, but also lowered his favorite by eleven points.
-> after so much, Penelope managed to a properly time with you without risking your or her life at all. eating sweeties, watching you using you abilities and of course, teaching you about archeology when you questioned her about it ( she is so happy when you keep your full attention on the subject when she is explaining it ), penelope wishes to her life be calm like this and not anyone daring to approach both of you.
-> however, there is a feeling that the sweet peace won’t last forever. After all, the system might try something soon and she is ready to protect you from everything and everyone.

I can't see a future for myself and that scares me
I haven't taken my meds in over a year I want to be loved for me, not the sedated version of me
Me/Jordyne:

Should morals be dictated by fear of punishment?
They all had opinions of how the serial killer should be killed, and seemed to feel pity for his victims. I felt nothing, once again. I acted like I had a bit of an opinion but I really didn't. It felt the same as hearing what was for breakfast.
Why do you look like you just killed something?
I feel repulsed by my own body which somehow seems to be oozing germs, when there really isn't anything there. I wanna skin myself., claw my skin up and scrub underneath it so I'm clean. This is what it means to be sick, means to be constantly obsessed.
I love books that are
They just don't give out lobotamies like they used to anymore
(I'll say it to your face. Go fuck yourself.)
I've never felt romantically or sexually attracted to anyone before. I don't feel anything, including those things.

You can justify anything if you do it poetically enough.
...You can only subject people to anguish who have a conscience. You can only punish people who have hopes to frustrate or attachments to sever; who worry what you think of them. You can really only punish people who are already a little bit good.
These were good people and they had been good to us and we had therefore had a good time. To conclude otherwise was frightening, raising the specter of some unnameable quantity without which we could not abide, but which we could not summon on demand, least of all by proceeding in virtuous accordance with an established formula.

Why does my throat burn when I drink energy drinks?
If this happens to you, caffeine could be a culprit. "Caffeine relaxes esophageal sphincter, which allows acid to come up in the throat,"
2. You’re peeing orange
Urine that is dark yellow or orange is a telltale sign of dehydration. "Coffee is actually a diuretic that can lead to dehydration by increasing the amount you urinate so you lose too much body fluids," says Amy Gross, MPH, RD, CDN and a clinical dietician at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Caffeine usually doesn’t trigger dehydration until after you’ve had about 500 mg, so you should be safe if you stick to a cup or two of coffee a day.
"They love without measure those whom they will soon hate without reason."
It is not that [the sociopath] fails to grasp the difference between good and bad; it is that the distinction fails to limit their behavior.

Most days, it feels like I'm eating my own heart
I thought I needed to get worse before I could get better
Mother's often have nowhere to put their rage. More times than not, it gets directed towards their daughters, because they are a clear image of what they could've been. An unmoulded version they could make into something to feel as if they have accomplished something themselves.

The truth is cruel. The people we love don't really love us back.
I cannot understand this feeling, and there's no way to explain it
Unless you are constantly exposed to a certain amount of pain, you will be afraid of it
Sometimes I wonder if there's something waiting for me in life. If maybe I'll wake up one day and suddenly want to live it.
You can't save me, and I'm afraid I'll drag you down with me
The side of me that was lovely, the side of me that cared about others. It made me sick to think that it was all a lie.
My mother tells me "Don't bleed on my floor," but she's constantly cutting me.
You told me you loved me my whole life, yet I never felt a thing
When the only emotion you ever showed me was anger, I welcomed it with open arms. I wanted you to feel something for me, even if all that was is rage.
In your eyes, what do I look like? Am I as bad as I make myself seem?
I had nowhere to put this sadness, so it turned into anger
A lifetime of sadness turns a person angry
I sat with my sadness long enough, until it became anger
