Roy Thomas, Arnold Heck, Gary Friedrich, Archie Goodwin: Carol may be NASA chief of security, but she hates the military higher-ups' guts and will always put what she believe is right over their orders. Gerry Conway, Chris Claremont: Carol's first love is writing. She published a tell-all exposé about her experiences in NASA which pissed off the military higher-ups quite a bit. She's an hardass investigative journalist who has no problem going against the government and military. She has massive untreated PTSD from when she was in the military before that. She is an ally of the anti-government mutant rights movement and she happily hacked the Pentagon's central database to wipe out all evidence of both her and the X-Men's existence. She strongly empathizes with Mar-Vell's own rebellion against his military. David Michelinie, Kurt Busiek: Carol enjoys casually threatening to maim obstructive bureaucrats because she actively wants her identity and past to remain a secret. Brian Reed, Brian Michael Bendis: Carol tried to be the middle ground between the underground resistance and the government in the first Civil War, and even then only because the pro-Registration side was led by a friend of her. She kept angsting about her best friend Jessica Jones and her daughter (Carol's goddaughter) being in Canada due to it and she was relieved when it ended (even if it was due to the Skrulls invading). During Norman Osborn's dictatorship she was one of the most radical members of the underground resistance due to her strong anti-imperialist convictions borne out of her being tortured when she was 18 by CIA regime change agents. Christos Gage: Her House of M reality counterpart (representing her greatest wish and which she spent her entire second stint as Ms. Marvel trying to emulate because she has all her memories) was a double agent inside S.H.I.E.L.D. for the mutant rights movement and a key figure in overthrowing the right-wing anti-mutant Nixon-Trask regime. I feel like this interview is somehow the galaxy-brained missing key to explaining everything that’s happened to Carol since becoming Captain Marvel. (cc @chadfarsight @danzafila)

makes a new page for my blog and doesn’t want it to be empty so uhhh
Vizieran are a mish-mash of human / demonic / angelic traits (human being...obvious, demonic being animal-adjacent behaviours and appearance, angelic typically being longer ears and a non-animal tail), but are usually considered a sub-race of human with slightly specific needs
It isn’t unknown for human parents with latent vizieran genes to surgically alter their kids if they’re born vizieran, typically removing their tail and cropping their ears. If it’s done early enough and properly, it’s almost impossible to tell the difference on a physical level
However, it’s pretty unknown what the psychological effects are, since such children completely lose two specific, emotive body-languages (y’know, like how animals use their tails and ears to communicate with each other)
Tumblr media
Brian is a good example of this (on top of just, bad and very emotionally abusive parents, a lot of which was spurred by a fear of his now hidden vizieran nature which he was clueless about until his 50s / 60s). He is VERY stunted when it comes to being able to properly and safely express his emotions, he has no small outlet, his body and mind are constantly under unconscious stress because none of his subtle emotional cues get picked up on because he can’t make them
It leads, in part, to his explosive and unpredictable temper, where small stresses are suddenly overwhelming and all consuming
After finding out he isn’t, in fact, strictly human, he ends up getting a prosthetic tail to elevate some of that tension, and is shocked at how immediate the difference even after have been going to therapy for years at that point and getting the worst of his issues under control

I have not lived a spectacular life. But within my four-dozen-plus years, I’ve had many more hours to pursue that which I chose, instead of moiling over that which I detested.
I have coaxed many infirm clocks back to mellifluous life. Studied projective geometry, and built astrolabes, sundials, taught myself 19th-century electro plating, bronzing, patination, micro-machining, horology, learned piano. Read Poe, De Montpasa, Boccaccio, O’Connor, Welty, Hugo, Balzac, Kafka, Bataille, Gibran, as well as modern works by Mortimer, Hawking, Kuntsler, Klein, Jacoby, Heinberg, Hedges, Hitchings, and Rhodes.
But the best times of my life I realize were the times I spent in the forest and field. I have walked in solitude beside my own babbling creek, and wondered at the undulations, meanderings, and tiny atolls that were occasionally swept into its midst. I have spent time in idle palaver with violets, lyre leaf sage, heliopsis, and monkshood. And marveled at the mystery of monotropa uniflora. I have audited the discourse of the hickories, oaks, and pines, even when no wind was present. I have peregrinated the woods in winter, under the watchful guard of vigilant dogs, and spent hours entranced by the exquisiteness and delicacy of tiny mosses and molds: entire forests within a few square inches.
I have also run thrashing and flailing from yellow jackets. Before I could commence this discourse, I spent a few hours out under the night sky reacquainting myself with the constellations, like old friends. Sometimes I just spent hours playing my records. Sometimes I took my record players and CD players apart just to peek inside and admire the engineering of their incongruous entrails. Sometimes I watched Laverne and Shirley, or old movies, or Star Trek. Sometimes I sat in the dark and listened to the creaking of the old house.
I have lived on this blue orb now for about 17,600 days. And when I look around me and see the leaden dispiritedness that envelops so many persons both young and old, I know that if I die tonight, my life has been inestimably better than that of most of my compatriots. Additionally, my absence makes room, and leaves some resources for others, who deserve no less than I have enjoyed.
I would hope that all persons reading this can enjoy some of the aspects of life that I have enjoyed, as well as those aspects that I never will, and will take cognizance of the number of waking days he has remaining, and use them prudently.
To all that have given so much, much love and respect,
John B. McLemore
(except from suicide note)
