Biden stacking hi-level positions in admin with Muslims & terrorist-apologists (updated)
Scroll to end for updates.
If you have more to add to the list please leave a comment here or on our Gab post. Maher Bitar - Sr. Director for Intelligence on the NSC
'Palestinian' Muslim deeply involved in Trump’s first impeachment
As Rep. Adam Schiff’s top legal adviser, he was deeply involved in the first impeachment of then-US President Donald Trump.
Maher Bitar, one of the executive board members of Students for Justice in Palestine, was one of the principal organizers of the 2006 conference which was being hosted by Georgetown University’s SJP hate group.
Tumblr media
Reema Dodin - Deputy Director of White House Office of Legislative Affairs
'Palestinian' Muslim who justified suicide bombings
During the Second Intifada, in 2002, Dodin spoke about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict with residents of Lodi, California, saying that “suicide bombers were the last resort of a desperate people,” according to the Lodi News-Sentinel.
...as one of two deputy directors of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs, she will be in a position to keep track of proposed or impending or about-to-be-voted on legislation about Israel, Palestinian Authority, Hamas, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the whole Middle Eastern works. She will know which Congressmen are “on our [Palestinian] side,” who can be persuaded to move toward the Palestinian position, who supports Israel and cannot be moved; she’s in the perfect place to inform or warn her allies in the pro-Palestinian camp of what’s to come, and how best to promote or stop it.

Sameera Fazili - Deputy Director at the US National Economic Council ('Kashmiri' Muslim) Source 1 + Bio
Update 1:
via: Biden’s Terror-Tied Appointee Sameera Fazili is a Threat to U.S.
via: Top Biden Economic Policy [Fazili] Adviser Linked to Kashmiri Extremists
Currently, Fazili is listed as Committee Chair of the Inner-City Muslim Action Network's (IMAN) Atlanta office, and she was previously listed as a director of IMAN's Chicago branch. Notably, two of IMAN's top 20 donors include the Barzinji Family Foundation and Mirza Family Foundation. These two organizations, in particular, are apparent successors to individuals and organizations associated with the SAAR Network, a web of businesses and charities accused of harboring numerous financial connections to entities involved with Al Qaeda, Hamas, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Uzra Zeya - Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights (Zeya was a key Obama advisor during Arab Sprint/Muslim Brotherhood uprising) + Source
More on Zeya:
Biden Pick for Human Rights Undersecretary Worked for Group That Claimed Jews Were Behind 9/11
Sean Durns, a research analyst at the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America, called the Washington Report a "fringe organization" that has "published content with anti-Semitic themes," including claims that the Mossad was behind the JFK assassination and the Sept. 11 attacks...
And on Zeya’s previous work:
"Ms. Zeya, a Muslim, will seek out Islamic groups seeking to work effectively within the American political system, and non-Muslim groups looking for authoritative speakers on Islam," reported the outlet. She published several book reviews in the Washington Report and was listed as "program coordinator for the American Educational Trust specializing in Islamic affairs" in March 1990.

Paul Abbate - Deputy Director of the FBI
9/11 mosque visiting, terror-imam praising FBI flack
…[as] the FBI’s #3 man, Associate Deputy Director Paul Abate, participated in a “love-fest” of sorts with Hamas/Muslim Brotherhood jihad Imam Johari Abdul-Malik at Hamas’ Dar al Hijra Islamic Center in Falls Church, Virginia.  See the UTT video HERE.
Tumblr media
Denis McDonough - Secretary of Dept of Veterans Affairs (VA)
Islamic terror supporter
McDonough has a long history of openly supporting terrorists/jihadis while in public office.
The counter-terrorism policies and strategies created under his watch as Deputy National Security Advisor and Chief of Staff under President Obama demonstrate his overt support for individuals and entities who openly call for the overthrow of the U.S. government and the destruction of liberty and innocent life.
McDonough’s seditious and unlawful actions are unprecedented in their brazenness and blatant violation of his oath and the law.
For instance, as the Deputy National Security Advisor to President Obama, McDonough went to the Muslim Brotherhood’s mosque, the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) in Sterling, Virginia with senior U.S. leaders including FBI, DHS, NSC, etc to PRAISE its Imam.
The ADAMS Center Imam is Mohamed Magid, a Muslim Brotherhood leader.
See the video of McDonough’s speech at ADAMS HERE.  (By the way, Denis McDonough lied when he said Thomas Jefferson held “the first Iftar dinner at the White House”)

Robert Malley - special envoy for Iran (Hamas supporter & Obama's Iran deal negotiator & failed ISIS czar)
... in 2008, when he was an informal foreign policy adviser for Obama's presidential campaign. He was forced to sever ties with the campaign when news outlets reported he had met with members of Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that the State Department classifies as a terrorist organization.

President Bill Clinton, left, meets with, from left to right, Palestinian negotiator Nabi Abu Rudineh, Rob Malley and Palestinian Chairman Yasser Arafat on July 17, 2000 at the Middle East peace summit at Camp David in Maryland.
Neera Tanden - Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB)
Clinton and Obama retread
Head of anti-American, Bloomberg-funded, pro-Sharia law think tank Center for American Progress that created an “Islamophobia” hit list and targeted those who warn about the dangers of sharia in the U.S.

Update: Tanden has withdrawn
Hady Amr - Deputy Asst Secretary of State for Israel-Palestine
Biden’s New Asst Sec of State Worked for Islamic Terror State That Funds Hamas
One year after 9/11 Amr stated “I was inspired by the Palestinian intifada” & called for engagement with Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood
... Over the past few years, Amr has repeatedly urged negotiations with Hamas. When the Trump administration unveiled its proposed peace deal, Amr co-wrote an article declaring that it should be scrapped in favor of focusing on a deal with Hamas. The article provides some insight into the policies that Amr may advance as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israel-Palestine.

Matt Duss - State Dept
Associate of Linda Sarsour & Islamophobia conspiracist at left-wing think-tank Center for American Progress

Update 2:
Ilhan Omar - vice chairwoman Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations
The anti-American, 9/11 victim-mocking, brother-marrying, fraud-committing, ISIS terrorist-supporting Muslim said she is excited to:
“play a leadership role in overseeing our international aid and foreign policy on the continent."  Source
In other words, Americans can expect more taxation for Islamization...at least it will be outside the U.S.

Namjoon makes sure that his polite smile remains on his face for the duration of the lecture.
He goes through his slides at a leisure pace and stops when needed to answer questions about the lesson. His students are paying attention and taking dutiful notes, but Namjoon can't help that the joy of teaching no longer fills him with excitement and hope like it once used to.
He does manage to hold onto a tiny spark of amusement when he hands back the graded essays from last week and his students groan when they chance a look at their scores. Namjoon dismisses class after that and waits patiently by his desk for the students who have questions about their papers or why they got a certain grade and how they can improve their essay techniques for next time. Namjoon entertains them for twenty minutes and then reminds them of his office hours for that week if they have any more questions or need further help before he leads the way out for the next class to enter. He waves at Professor Min in the hallway and decides to ask Yoongi how the students in his women studies class are doing later in the week when they meet for lunch.
Absentmindedly, he weaves his way through the crowds of students on campus and makes a pit stop at the office he shares with two other English professors and revises his current lesson plan. Namjoon takes notes of the points he wants to expand on during the lecture next week and updates his version of the textbook he assigned his classes. He had done his best to find a textbook that wasn't so expensive but still contained the material that Namjoon would need for his students to get the most out of the money they would spend just to take his class. In his first year of teaching, he printed out a multitude of articles back when paper was still used and made his students buy a twelve dollar guidebook off amazon and almost had a break down with how awful his students were struggling to understand the concepts introduced in the guidebook because they were never explained on later in detail as they should have been.
After that, Namjoon did his research and found a relatively affordable textbook that would do the job just fine. He always gives his students at least three weeks to get the book after the term has begun just in case they need to pay bills first before they buy school books. He knows that even though they may reside in Washington, D.C, it doesn't mean that everyone who attends school in the area is rich. He struggled plenty with money and school books when he was a student himself and had often thought of dropping out, but there was always one reason he persevered through his hard times.
(He never said a word of it out loud, but having someone to talk to and help him study and just generally keep him company saved Namjoon more times than he would like to count during his college years. Somehow, Taehyung seemed to realized this anyway and teased Namjoon about it enough for the fondness he felt for his husband to override any negative feelings a younger Namjoon might have had.)
One of the other professors enters their office then, tearing Namjoon out of his thoughts. He smiles at them, making small talk before he packs his things up and clears out for their office hours once a student timidly knocks on the door. Namjoon taps his watch and sends a message to Alexa, the house A.I., that he is on his way home and to turn the heater on so that by the time he arrives, the house will not be freezing.
Back in the early 2000s, most of the Earth's environmentalists had warned everybody of the quickly oncoming effects of global warming while various governments downplayed their claims by distracting the general public with other less important issues such as national security that was not at any actual risk. Truthfully, global warming had been a rapidly rising problem ever since the ‘90s and ‘80s, but as far as Namjoon could tell, the general population only began to pay attention to it in the late 2010s. By then, it was too late because in 2022 the Earth's temperatures dropped seemingly “out of nowhere” and have remained there ever since.
Namjoon only knows about any of this in such detail because Yoongi's boyfriend, Jeongguk, and Jeongguk’s boyfriend, Seokjin, are two of the many scientists who are working on getting the Earth's temperature back to a normal state. They always complain about work on those rare occasions that they join Namjoon and Yoongi for lunch and bicker about their data results constantly. Namjoon was nervous the first time he met them, mostly because he had no idea how to treat them after Yoongi explained that Jeongguk is polyamorous while his partners are not and are okay with him dating them both, but Namjoon gradually relaxed as the meet-ups continued and he got to know all three of them better.
Seokjin is the eldest of them all and never acts like his age which is hilarious when Namjoon compares that to Jeongguk always listening to him with rapt attention whenever Namjoon is explaining something about his latest lesson. Their easy-going natures made it hard for him to remain reserved around the two new additions and soon, Namjoon found himself frequently at Yoongi’s home for dinner during the week and sometimes housing them at his own. Jeongguk had made the mistake of asking Namjoon about his wedding band during their very first meeting as well and Namjoon forced himself not to let his smile fall as he explained about Taehyung.
(Namjoon is positive that Yoongi purposefully changed the subject after that for his benefit and berated his boyfriend for the question in private afterward because no one ever brought it up again after that.)
The drive home is short and Namjoon stops by the mailbox to click on its screen to check for any new mail. Most of it is just bills, but there is also a postcard from Hoseok and Jimin included in the files. Namjoon syncs the mail to his watch with a few more taps then shuts down the screen with a dismissive swipe across it and walks leisurely towards his front door.
Thankfully, it is warm inside his home and Namjoon sighs as he kicks off his shoes and hangs his jacket in the hallway closet. He throws his keys in the bowl by the door and walks forward, tapping away at the face of his watch to check his other notifications. He pays the bills with another swipe and asks Alexa to play his welcome home playlist before he grabs the handle of the fridge and waits for the screen to tell him what he currently has inside the icebox and how fresh it currently is. He doesn't find much that he is in the mood for and grabs the freezer handle, smiling when he catches sight of the ground beef at 89% freshness sitting on top of an oven pizza Namjoon is saving for one of his very bad days. Today has been well and on top of that, Namjoon wants to cook something relatively easy, so the obvious choice is spaghetti.
Namjoon grabs the beef and goes over to the sink and fills it with hot water before he places the ground beef in it to defrost quickly, cursing the fact that he hadn’t set it out earlier before he left for his classes in the late morning. He knows what is in the pantry because he finished restocking it before he left for class and grabbing the package of angel hair off one of the top shelves is effortless. Namjoon sets the pasta on the counter and searches for a pot, checking all of his drawers individually when it would be much easier to pull up the kitchen manifest file he has downloaded and synced on his watch instead. Eventually, he finds a pot and fills it with water, asking Alexa to turn the stove on as he does. Namjoon hums along to his playlist as he sets the pot on the stove, looking over the stove's statistics before nodding his head in satisfaction and making his way towards the master bedroom.
The room feels bare with none of Taehyung’s clothes thrown carelessly everywhere and it is obvious that only one side of the bed is actually slept on, but Namjoon ignores the familiar ache in his chest and rushes to the closet. He finds a clean set of pajamas with blue stripes running down them vertically and an alien with a heart-shaped head scattered across the lines. It doesn't actually belong to him, but Namjoon ignores that fact and finds a clean pair of underwear before he takes his long-awaited shower of the day.
Namjoon still isn't used to the open shower in the bathroom and he knows that he most likely never will be. He powers through his shower anyway, drying himself off with a towel instead of the built-in blow dryers that retract from the walls because they always make his skin feel sticky afterward and changes into the pajamas back in the bedroom. He continues to ruffle his hair with his towel before he throws it into the hamper and with that done, Namjoon walks back into the kitchen to check on the pot of water he left to boil in his absence.
The water is ready and Namjoon makes sure to measure out an appropriate amount of pasta from the package before he reseals it with the sealing machine found in one of their drawers and drops them into the pot. He checks on the ground beef and finds it thawed enough for his tastes. His watch has already alerted him where another pot can be found and Namjoon wastes no time in filling it up with water and setting it down on an empty burner beside the pot of pasta. He drains the sink and opens the shrink wrap on the ground beef, scooping his usual amount of it in his hand before he breaks the meat into pieces and starts rolling them into balls between the palms of his hands. Before long, Namjoon has five meatballs ready that he added a meager amount of salt to and carefully settles them into the second boiling pot of water on the stove.
Thankfully, the angel hair is only just beginning to soften so Namjoon grabs one of his spoons reserved for pasta and starts stirring, asking Alexa if there is any butter in the fridge. It is easy to settle into his movements then. Namjoon barely has to think as he grabs the butter out of the fridge and uses a spoon to scoop some out of the tub and mix into his pot of boiling pasta. He continues to stir the pot, keeping an eye on his meatballs as well while he continues to sing along with his playlist. Here Comes The Sun is currently playing and Namjoon can’t stop himself from swaying with the beat of the music.
He lifts a noodle up from the hot, boiling water and blows on it until it is cool enough for him to bite. He chews with no difficulty and smiles to himself as he asks Alexa to turn the first burner off. Namjoon checks the kitchen manifest for the strainer and pulls it out of a drawer he never would have guessed to look through before he sets it near the sink and checks on his meatballs. When he opens one slightly with a fork, the meat isn’t pink and the next one he checks still has pink when he breaks it open enough to peer inside, so he sighs and asks Alexa to lower the heat on the burner before he focuses on straining the pasta.
The last song on his playlist comes to end once the stove has been turned off completely and Namjoon is fishing his meatballs out of the pot and onto his spaghetti. After straining his pasta, he had poured tomato sauce over it while it was still in its pot and turned the other burner back on to heat everything up because he hates pouring room temperature sauce over his pasta. Now his meatballs are finally done, he resealed the ground beef before sticking it back into the freezer, and the plate of delicious-looking spaghetti before him is making his stomach rumble with hunger.
Namjoon moves his plate to the kitchen table and the pots into the dishwasher, asking Alexa to start the pre-soak and then wait for his signal to start the regular wash cycle again. He grabs a glass from the cupboard and takes the pitcher of lemonade he made yesterday out of the fridge before returning to the table.
“Alexa, play Taehyung’s playlist,” Namjoon murmurs as he sits, having poured himself a glass of lemonade and twirled his fork through his spaghetti already.
A soft jazz ensemble begins to play and Namjoon takes a bite of his food, doing his best to ignore the ache in his chest and the way his hands are beginning to shake. He forces himself to get through his meal, pushing away the lonely thoughts that have plagued him ever since Taehyung left as the music continues to play. Eventually, Namjoon has to stop once he realizes that the wetness on his cheeks isn’t tomato sauce at all but his tears instead.
“Alexa, play the last video message received from Taehyung.”
Namjoon ignores the fact that his voice is raspy and cracked twice when he spoke and instead focuses on the video that begins to play in the seat across from him that Taehyung used to sit in when they would have dinner together. Taehyung’s familiar face is blown up to fill the entire space allowed by the projected video and Namjoon grabs a napkin from the middle of the table to start wiping his face. He can clearly see black emptiness behind Taehyung and a green-blue glow lights up his face enough so Namjoon can tell that he is in his suit at that moment. Floating in the middle of space. Making his way towards Mars of all places. So very far away from the Earth and Namjoon in general.
He has been gone three years now and most likely will be gone for three more. Namjoon knows that if he had left for Mars any earlier, Taehyung would be out in space for over twenty years instead of the expected seven he was enduring now. Hoseok and Jimin were engineers and had worked for years on the rocket that Taehyung and a group of other trained astronauts would use to get to Mars and back with all of their new findings. Namjoon had met them when he swung by the base one time to bring Taehyung his lunch that he had forgotten and had not been able to leave until Hoseok and Taehyung both dragged Jimin away from pinching Namjoon’s cheeks any further. He still doesn’t understand the fascination, but Hoseok and Jimin are in the Bahamas for a long deserved vacation they were finally allowed to go on a few months ago and he is happy that they finally get to rest.
Namjoon became friends with Yoongi soon after his only other friends left the country for what they called their second honeymoon and he knows that he isn’t really alone. He knows that if he asked, Yoongi would invite him over to his place and ask Namjoon to spend the night so he wouldn’t feel so lonely in the dead of the night when he’s curled up on Taehyung’s side of the bed, failing to fall asleep yet again. He also knows that if he even let a hint of his unhappiness show whenever he video chats with them, Hoseok and Jimin would hop on the fastest porter and follow him around everywhere, refusing to leave him alone even for a minute. He knows this, but he would never allow himself to be so selfish either.
Yoongi has his own relationship to pay attention to and with the difficulty of it, Namjoon knows that his fellow teacher’s attention is spread thin at any given time. Hoseok and Jimin are so wrapped up in each other that he once had to stop them from having sex right in front of him. Plus, those two deserve their vacation. Namjoon doesn’t want to ruin that.
So he watches and listens to Taehyung’s video attentively, wiping at his face when Taehyung smiles for him and tells him that he loves him before the feed cuts off and Namjoon is left staring at the back of Taehyung’s chair.
He misses Taehyung more than words could ever say and he always finds himself spinning his wedding band around on his finger whenever he thinks of him.
He misses his husband, but he never would have convinced Taehyung to stay on Earth and choose a different career path instead. This is what he signed up for when he got set up on a blind date by his sister and his date never showed up, but Taehyung had pretended to be his date just as the waiter was swooping in to ask if Namjoon still wanted to wait after an hour had passed. Since then, Namjoon has never once thought of anyone but him and it was easy to ask Taehyung out on a real date since they had exchanged numbers on Namjoon’s botched one.
For Namjoon, his choice has always been Taehyung and always will be. No matter what.
He might miss Taehyung more than he ever thought he knew how to miss anybody or anything, but Namjoon loves his husband more than everything in this galaxy and he believes in him. He believes in them and that is why when he thinks of how much he aches for his husband to come home, he also thinks of how Taehyung is going to be the first man on Mars and make history.
Most of all, he thinks of how happy and accomplished Taehyung is going to feel when he finally comes home.
Namjoon will wait for as long as he has to.
Tumblr media
     Taehyung double checks that his suit is still in working order when he takes the last few steps down the ramp and sets a foot down on firm ground, officially making him the first man to step on Mars.
The giddy feeling that spreads through him reminds him of his wedding day when he looked up to see Namjoon standing at the end of the aisle looking breathtakingly beautiful. Taehyung knows that he cried as Namjoon walked towards him and he is proud of that fact no matter how many times Hoseok and Jimin teased him for it when they saw his wedding video. Now they have it downloaded to their joint data bank and would constantly play the clip over and over again when he would swing by the R&D department to check out how the spaceship was coming along.
He can say that he misses the teasing now that he hasn’t been able to endure it for over an entire Earth year, but he is grateful for the technology that his friends crafted to get him where he is now.
His crew is quick to follow him and Taehyung smiles as Joshua plants the U.S. flag in the soil while their watches record the scene from multiple angles. Taehyung is mostly amazed that their smartwatches still retain their basic functions so far out of range from any kind of signal except for that of the ship, but he won’t start complaining about it any time soon. Their watches come more in handy than anyone would like to think.
Mars is dusty and a rich dark brown that almost looks red if he weren’t paying close attention to it. The dunes their old rovers took photos of for them two decades ago are more impressive in real life and Taehyung can hardly believe this is all real. But he has a mission, one specifically crafted just for him, and he cannot let himself fail it now.
Luckily, his target isn’t too far from their landing spot and Taehyung makes sure his camera is in working order before he trudges across the surface of Mars and kneels down before a very dusty and beloved rover. He wipes off the dust on the solar panels and cups what he has always thought of as something like a face while the robot begins to take in energy and charge up.
Joshua is still standing by the flag he made sure to stick into Mars’ land, but the entire crew is holding their breath, waiting.
They do not have to wait for long because soon enough the screen on the rover’s chest is flickering on and the rover’s face moves in his hands, leaning into Taehyung’s touch.
Music begins to play from Vernon’s watch and Taehyung almost cries when he realizes that it is Here Comes The Sun. It is Namjoon’s favorite song and just the thought of his husband alone and missing him back on Earth has Taehyung itching to snatch up the robot and book it for the ship, setting the fastest course for home so he can return as soon as he can to the one he loves and misses most.
Except this is important and Namjoon would understand. Namjoon has always accommodated him and loved him without fault. This time would be no different.
That all recedes to the back of his mind when the rover begins to move once more, treading forward slightly until it bumps into Taehyung’s knee. It stops and makes a noise Taehyung would assume is an apology but he is just too happy to care.
“Hello, Oppy. Are you ready to go home?” Taehyung asks, grinning as his crew erupts into cheers behind him.
The journey is now halfway over. He knows that the team will need to take multiple samples of Mars’ surface and conduct a number of tests, but his mission is finally complete.
Taehyung can return to Earth, and more importantly, he can return to Namjoon.

Last weekend, I braved the mobs, so you don’t have to! I spent a full day at D.C.’s convention center standing in line and squeezed into seats. I attended what may be the biggest free to the public book festival hosted by the Library of Congress.
According to the Library of Congress, their 18th annual festival included a diverse lineup of 115 authors featuring U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, eminent historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, acclaimed novelist Amy Tan, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, U.S. Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith, and two-time Newbery Medal winner Kate DiCamillo. As usual, I took another route with detours right from the start.
Entering the grand hall when the crowds were more manageable!
On my way to hear Dave Eggers, I could tell the crowd was growing and saw a panel on Spywork and John le Carré. The title sounded mysterious, and since my next novel will include some espionage, I ducked in to get a seat. John le Carré (real name: David Cornwall) wasn’t there. Authors David Ignatius (The Quantum Spy), Joseph Kanon (Defectors), and Adam Sisman (John le Carré: The Biography) with Pulitzer Prize-winning author and moderator for the panel, Kai Bird (American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer) chatted about le Carré spy stories and his influences on storytelling.
Afterward, I hustled down three escalators and over to the Fiction room to hear Jeffrey Eugenides (well-known author of The Virgin Suicides) and a new book, Fresh Complaint. After waiting over 20 minutes, we were complaining. Since he was running late, the event was canceled.
With time to kill, I slipped across the hall and heard the second half of murder mystery and spy novelist Hank Phillippi Ryan’s update on her new book, Trust Me. She encouraged fellow career changers doing this later in life. She didn’t start her writing career until she was in her 50’s. My husband asked me if Hank was a man. Her real name is Harriet, and Hank was a nickname from college. She has a definite edge since statistics say men writers sell more. Just look at J.K. Rowling: her new books are penned by Robert, not Roberta, Galbraith. A sad fact, since Joanne, of all writers, can afford to be a woman!
At the book fest, authors were grouped mainly by topic or type of book (history & biography, main stage aka big names, teens, poetry & prose, understanding our world – a catch-all mix, fiction, and genre fiction. A few I didn’t check out – two children stages, and a Library of Congress Hall. Each author or group had an hour to discuss their book with an interviewer and a few minutes for Q&A.
On the right, interviews for TV channels were conducted later:
I met my husband for a book discussion by David Ignatius for his spy thriller, The Quantum Spy, about the Chinese ruling the world via computer. David was part of my first lecture on Spywork. Besides being a novelist, he is a journalist and writes a column for the Washington Post. He might have noticed me if he’d learned from his characters. Spies supposedly watch their surroundings closely. But with the packed crowd, I blended in and was undetected. But just wait for my run-in with Security!
After another wait for lunch, I returned to the Fiction salon to hear Andrew Sean Greer talk about his novel Less. Less really means More since he won the Pulitzer Prize with his edgy modern travel love story. Congrats! And the award couldn’t go to a nicer guy. Andrew came across as laid back and friendly joking with the crowd. When he found out one of his teachers was in the crowd, he didn’t hesitate to get to the edge of the stage to hug her.
Now my plan fell apart, and I almost pitched my free book tote bag in disgust. I had hurried across what seemed like miles of convention room carpeting while dodging attendees who are either are from the UK or prefer walking on the wrong side of the hallways. I followed the signs to Room 146, but somehow, I’d left, without leaving the building, and had to ask a security guard for help.
After another delay with another security check and backtracking, I found one of the hundred plus Ask Me volunteers lingering everywhere. She pointed out the best route to the elusive Room 146. But when I arrived, many others had too, and a large line snaked around the corridor.
Here’s why. Room 146 had a captivating title: Understanding Our World. So necessary anytime, but perhaps mission critical if you live in DC. I knew I wouldn’t hear any of the Conversation: Americas Great Struggle for Racial Equality featuring Brooks D. Simpson and Isabel Wilkerson.  But it was the next event that was on the top of my wishlist: Conversation: Sea Creatures.
What would the authors share with us on behalf of these creatures from the ocean and 70% of planet earth‽  (The ‽, a question-explanation mark combo called an interrobang, is official and grammatically correct. I couldn’t resist using an interrobang for the first time in such a deserving situation.)
The sea creature conversation included an interview with Sy Montgomery, the author of a book I loved: The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness. Who knew octopi have such personalities and are as smart as a whip‽Times eight, of course. Sy has a new book: Tamed and Untamed Close Encounters of the Animal Kind. Juli Berwald’s book also sounds fascinating. Spineless: The Science of Jellyfish and the Art of Growing a Backbone.
I hate to admit with these long afternoon lines; I’d lost my can-do festive mood. Instead, I found a seat and watched the long line hover and grow resembling the long leg of you know what. My seat buddy, armed with what looked like an ordinary cane, told me about the good old days in D.C. when it was a two-day event held on the Mall under massive tents. She lamented how much easier it was to see inside and hang around outside the tents if the seats were full. And except for the possibility of rain and mud, or scorching heat and humidity, book lovers managed just fine.
Right next to us, the doors opened for the next session in Poetry & Prose with a short and manageable line. So I went high-brow listening to the panel on Literary Lives with authors Mark Eisner (Neruda: The Poet’s Calling) and Kay Redfield Jamison (Robert Lowell: Setting the River on Fire” A Study of Genius, Mania and Character). Fiona Sampson, the author of In Search of Mary Shelley: The Girl Who Wrote Frankenstein, was ill and couldn’t leave the UK. Her book was of particular interest since Mary Shelley and Frankenstein are in my second still to be published novel.
My sixth and final event was again in the Poetry & Prose room: How Writers Think and Work. So apropos since I’m a novelist. I continually compare notes with the experts. But from what I’ve learned in writing, there are no rules, and if there are, no one agrees. Some renegade writers even urge you to break any you happen to find.
This last discussion included authors Lorrie Moore, See What Can Be Done: Essays, Criticism and Commentary, and Richard Russo, probably best known for his novel and TV show, Empire Falls. His recent book, The Destiny Thief: Essays on Writing, Writers, and Life was another book I had read. Two, out of about 200 new books, isn’t too bad.
The book fest ended for me since I lacked the energy for the last few lectures scheduled elsewhere. Isn’t this blog exhausting? In the Amazon carousel below, I’ve added a link to some of the books by the authors I heard speak, including one from yours truly.
[amazon_link asins=’1521210519,0393254151,0765393077,031631613X,1451697724,1524732486′ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’karenstensg01-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’128fc14f-b47e-11e8-8899-c9d48c37cf6b’] P.S. If you were hoping to see another library blog, here is a photo of the beautiful Carnegie public library at Mt. Vernon Square across from the convention center. Since it looks like a beautiful spot, when the renovation is done, I’ll be back. And here’s a photo of me with an adorable portable library on the way to H Street behind Union Station and my favorite D.C. restaurant, Ethiopic.
Get an insider's view of Washington D.C.’s 18th Library of Congress National Book Festival. Last weekend, I braved the mobs, so you don’t have to! I spent a full day at D.C.’s convention center standing in line and squeezed into seats.

The bout will set the tone for the show, which will debut Oct. 2 from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
Cody announced Monday he would be part of the first AEW on TNT match, but it wasn't until Tuesday that his opponent was revealed.
It is fitting that Cody is in the opening bout since he was one of the main catalysts behind the creation of AEW. Along with The Young Bucks, Cody helped promote and produce last year's All In event, which was essentially the forerunner to AEW.
Cody, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega are all executive vice presidents of AEW, and they will have a significant hand in how the product is booked and presented on TNT every week moving forward.
Meanwhile, Guevara is a somewhat surprising choice since he isn't a well-known name to casual wrestling fans. The 26-year-old Guevara is a skilled high-flyer with experience in companies such as Lucha Underground, Lucha Libre AAA World Wide and Major League Wrestling.
Guevara also had a solid bout with Kip Sabian on the Double or Nothing pre-show and teamed with MJF and Shawn Spears to beat Darby Allin, Jimmy Havoc and Joey Janela at Fight for the Fallen.
The 34-year-old Cody is the son of the late, great Dusty Rhodes and has been a workhorse for AEW since its inception. It can be argued that he has been part of the best match at each of AEW's three events thus far.
At Double or Nothing, Cody beat his brother, Dustin Rhodes, in a match of the year candidate. Then, he fought Darby Allin to a time-limit draw at Fyter Fest and teamed with Dustin in a loss to The Young Bucks in the main event of Fight for the Fallen.
At All Out on Aug. 31, Cody will face Spears in a grudge match. While Cody and Spears are longtime friends, Spears betrayed Cody at Fyter Fest when he hit him in the head with a steel chair.
The result of their match at All Out will go a long way toward deciding who is better positioned for a run toward the main event scene when AEW debuts on TNT in October.
Whether or not that is Cody, he will have the distinction of being in the first AEW on TNT match, which speaks to how important of a piece he will be for the company as an on-screen performer moving forward.
Meanwhile, the fact that Guevara is being placed in the first-ever match of AEW on TNT suggests that there are big plans in place to push him provided he impresses during the showcase.

The reason I’m petrified for both C & D.
RM/EP/BS/MM - that crowd is bad news. Toxic.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following was written by @rougedraconteur (was on a post I’m unable to reblog)
I know I am poison to you folks now, because I refuse to swallow the blue pill that is being sold to us, and just shut up, but this is something I have been following for years, and partly why I hate and will always fight RM.  yes, I have an agenda, but it is not against D or C or their relationship, whatever it might be either now, in the past, or in the future, or their careers and how and with whom they “choose” to work, or for what reasons, although I am allowed to be disappointed, at what seems to have transpired, and express that.  What mature and knowlegeable adults do in pursuit of their careers is their business, IF they do that of their own free will, without blackmail or coercion, but children and youth should be protected, even from their own naive ambitions.  Others in this fandom that have been dumped on lately, unfairly IMO, saw this quite early on, as well, and were very troubled by the association, especially for C, who had seemed to make an effort to break free from the worst effects of this group, having seen and suffered enough.  Co/ry, who had suffered a troubled childhood, and was still struggling with the same demons and being victimized because of it by RM, seemed to support C in this, being present behind the scenes when C was “outed.”  But something, or someone, pulled C back in, perhaps and most likely unwittingly, perhaps thinking they could control the situation they had both been thrown into. Bless his heart, love is hard sometimes, people are sorry they cause suffering to those they love through the mistakes they make.  The heart wants what it wants.
I first noticed C’s melancholy when he was Esquire’s Man of the Year for his birth year, for their huge Anniversary Issue, and he expressed some very dark musings that seemed to reflect something going very wrong.  After that, I soon  saw C, with W, at a fund-raiser for Pus/sy Ri/ot, hosted by both Emmer/rich and Sin/ger.  the rumors were already out about the two and their underage parties, and it troubled me to have C there, openly, with W, smiling and mentioned in their article about the event, with photographs.  This was a children’s book author, with suspected child molesters, willingly being photographed, and C’s team would NEVER let that happen.  So, why did it?  Because C ALLOWED it, for some reason.
D’s latest movie director Em/merich is a close friend of Sin/ger, also, as is RM.  They host and frequent the same “parties” for up and coming young “actors,” often arranged by MM, with the help of all those he hustles. I think this is the way the “gay mafia” does business, after watching this “pattern” for so long.  CH pretty much confirmed it, when he came out, and others in the industry have said it made life even harder for all these closeted actors in “Camp Podwall” or in connection with these power players, instead of better, after that all came out. CH would not shut up, he thought things would change, if people would listen and respond in strong measures.  But it didn’t work out that way.  The whole operation clamped down even tighter on their people, and ramped up their abuse, as punishment for anyone daring to step out of line so openly.  D and CH had a confrontational conversation during that time that CH was so troubled, or so it appeared in one series of photos they shared at a fashion shoot.
The rule of thumb seems to be you pay if you want to play, the older folks in power call all the shots, they shape your career, who you connect with, how and why, what parties you attend, and with whom, what roles you take, and when, or they blackball you out and shut you down.  If you play the game, stay in line, you are “allowed” to progress in the industry, move up the ladder, gain power and control over your own life and protect your loved ones life, but it’s a rough ride.  It’s a control game, all the way, vicious and dangerous.  The folks at the top (Gef/fen, Dil/ler, their close associates, with RM moving up with his latest deal) are just too rich and powerful to be brought down, it seems, although Sin/ger, MM, and some other more well-established actors seem to be in danger of exposure and ruin, one with a new movie coming out this holiday season.  Thes higher ups will protect them until they can’t, then cut them off rather than go down with them. An expose story with a major magazine seems to be in the works, again, but it appears to have been slowed, if not shut down completely.  This could topple some big names, and could have forced some gay bigwigs into “playing nice” with some of their people to keep things quiet.  But fandom and social media, with their spending habits supporting their shows, concerts, movies, artists, was always an unpredictable and uncontrollable curbing agent and pushback against these folks, and somehow, through paid social media bots, they have been able to mostly shut us down, too.  Like the free press, we have been severely compromised, using various tactics, much as they do their actors, in order to control us.
There have been lots of blinds lately, you can believe them or not, but they explain a lot of questionable things I have seen since 2012 with MM, his parties, and his small group gatherings, well-documented with photos, of Glee actors, including Co/ry and Ma/rk, Har/ry and Ch/ord, as well as D, during Glee, around Hollywood and NYC, at London locations, foreign tropical locales, and showing up in Washington, D.C., with his “parties” during the Washington Correspondent’s Dinner.  He and EP are very close.  There are other Camp Pod/wall regulars, such as J.C. Cha/sez, and my warning sirens go off around them, too.   Recent rumors connected D romantically with JC, in his early years in Hollywood, and C with RM.  those were not removed, as any good PR team would do, such as C’s.  I know C has admitted more than once that 2012 was a very difficult time for him. His second book was written that year, and reflects that mood.
Whenever I see MM, or EP, around either of the two, or RM or Goopchuk, with them, it creeps me out.  The worst was one photo, maybe during Hed/wig?  MM has D in a tight hug, and he is grinning, although I would call it leering, and directly addressing C, using his name in the text, as in, look what I have here.  While lots of folks in the fandom saw it as a confirm, and cute, and those in the other fandom saw it as a rebuke, here’s the real star, D, you are not so great, C, I saw it as a threat to C. Don’t make trouble, don’t make waves, do as you are told, or someone gets hurt.  So, yeah, if you take the red pill, these are all crazy talk, and ridiculous, when we just want to be happy and like things and be fans.  Most folks do not want to go that deep, and it is easier and a lot less scary to just call people like me crazy.  But we once had a part to play that posed a threat to those powers.  Those people have mostly left the fandom, shut their eyes and swallowed the cough syrup, or yes, became fierce C stans, because he seems to be a fighter like us.  I love D, he is amazing and talented beyond belief, but I would walk through fire for C.
I think you might be right that they are using these two and KM, allowing two “out” actors to use their social media narrative to push back against the “forced closeting” rumors, and using them to “clean up” their image, and protect the predators.  But perhaps a mutually beneficial deal HAS been negotiated, by D and C, and KM as well, who knows all the Gl/ee secrets, as all parties know too much, and have some leverage there.  But these are very bad people, criminals, surrounding them, forcing their hand, using them in many cases and involving them in suspect activities, and while I will continue to support these two every way I possibly can, I cannot and will not add  to the cheerleading, praise, financial support, and widespread whitewashing of these awful people and their projects with D, and C if it comes to that,  thus allowing them to continue unabated and unrepentant.  People brutally burned Ma/rk for his dark side, but these guys, because they are powerful and influential, are okay and get not just a pass, but a love fest, from the fans?  Hell to the no.
Ask Darren Criss how it feels to return to San Francisco, his hometown, as a newly anointed Emmy Award winner for his startling and spectacular lead performance as  murderer Andrew Cunanan in “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.”
“Well,” Criss says, “it feels better than last time I was there as an Emmy loser.”
Criss received his first Emmy nomination in 2015 for writing music and lyrics for “This Time,” sung in the series finale of his breakthrough gig, “Glee.” The tune was sung by his friend Lea Michele, who will reprise the song in San Francisco when she and Criss bring their LM/DC Tour to the Masonic on Monday, Oct. 29.
If the 31-year-old Criss seems a little low-key about his Emmy win, it’s probably because he is, as usual, juggling a million balls and spinning a million plates.
It has always been this way. Shortly after graduating from the University of Michigan, he and a group of friends created Starkid Productions and created and produced a series of musicals inspired by the Harry Potter books, with Criss taking the starring role.
From there, it was a quick hop to sudden stardom as gay, bow-tied high schooler Blaine Anderson in “Glee” and then to movies, TV and Broadway (“How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”). In his spare time, Criss has founded a Broadway musical festival called Elsie Fest, formed a band with his brother, Chuck, called Computer Games, released EPs of his own, gotten engaged to Mia Swier and, with Swier, opened a piano bar in L.A. called Tramp Stamp Granny’s.
“I’m a chaos junky,” Criss says on the phone from his L.A. home. “I thrive in the chaos.”
Last week, for instance, he wrapped shooting on Roland Emmerich’s World War II drama “Midway” in Montreal, and the minute he landed at LAX, he headed off to the valley to shoot a Christmas special that he can’t really talk about.
“The juxtaposition of being in World War II to wearing a Christmas sweater and caroling with some absurdly fabulous people illustrates what my life is,” Criss says. “I go from thing to thing to thing, with no real idea of what I just did or where I’m going. People say, ‘What are you up to?’ I don’t even know.”
Criss also has a penchant for saying yes to things, which means that following the Christmas gig, he had to put together 18 Katy Perry songs for a six-minute medley and was asked to perform at a tribute to the singer who helped him make an impression on the “Glee” fans with her song “Teenage Dream.” Then he filled in on guitar for a friend doing a benefit for GLAAD on Spirit Day.
“I can’t say no,” he says, “especially if there’s music involved. I’m a funaholic.”
He’s also an incredibly hard worker. Take the tour with his pal Michele. They had talked for years about making their love of performing together official with a tour. “It was never a matter of if but when,” Criss says. “Over the years, aside from ‘Glee’ we had performed a lot together, and it’s really fun when our powers combine. It just came down to scheduling.”
The first leg of the tour earlier this year stuck to the East Coast, and now the duo head west for a show that allows each singer time in the solo spotlight as well as plentiful duets on “Glee” favorites and show tunes (“Falling Slowly” from “Once,” “Suddenly Seymour” from “Little Shop of Horrors”).
“The through line for both me and Lea is ‘Glee’ and musical theater, but there’s so much musical variety in our backgrounds,” Criss says. “We basically take people on a journey through music we love and ground it in our relationship with each other, our friendship forged over the years. It’s like an intimate hang in the living room. But bigger.”
The show’s set list includes songs the fans expect, but there’s also room for surprises.
For instance, in each tour stop, Criss likes to learn a song by someone famous from that city. In Washington, D.C., it was “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” in tribute to Duke Ellington,” and in Durham, N.C., it was James Taylor’s “Fire and Rain.”
So what will the San Francisco native sing at The Masonic? One of his own songs perhaps?
“No, probably not me,” he says. “There’s no shortage of great singers from San Francisco and no shortage of songs about San Francisco. I don’t usually decide the song until a few hours before the show. I learn it in a hurry.”
Even with all he has accomplished, Criss seems in a hurry to accomplish more.
“I shoot for a lot of targets and don’t necessarily hit all of them,” he says. “I have an insatiable desire to try and connect as many human beings together as possible. I want to elevate the experience of everybody in the world. To break it down into some bigger M.O., I have this undying love for the human race. I love human beings. Any chance I can get to make their experience, our experience, more connected, more enjoyable, more considered, I will do it.”
Michele and Darren Criss: The LM/DC Tour: 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29. $45-$99.50. The Masonic, 1111 California St., S.F. 800-745-3000. www.livenation.com
Snoop Dogg Clears Up Rumors After Lil Kim & Mase Deny Involvement In Festival
Hip hop and R&B fans were floored on Tuesday (February 18) when a flyer for an upcoming concert began to circulate on social media. The Lovers & Friends Festival popped up on Instagram and for their first post, they uploaded a flyer that has caused quite a bit of controversy in less than 24 hours. According to the information provided, the Goldenvoice presented show will take place on May 9 in Los Angeles at "the grounds at Dignity Health Sports Park." However, there have been a few hiccups as both artists and fans have called out the alleged promoters for misinformation.
Artists reportedly performing at the one-day event include Lauryn Hill, Usher, Ludacris, Lil Jon, TLC, Jhené Aiko, Summer Walker, Megna Thee Stallion, Nelly, Sean Paul, T-Pain, Brandy, Monica, Ja Rule, Fat Joe, SWV, Saweetie, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Ginuwine, Dru Hill, Next, 112, Mario, Twista, Eve, Trina, Tweet, Amerie, Mase, Cam'ron, Mike Jones, Montell Jordan, Umi, Jon B, Baby Bash, Frankie J, and Nina Sky.
This lineup is every 1990s and 2000s hip hop and R&B fans' dream, but all may not be what it seems. Initially, Twista insinuated that he hadn't been paid for the show, but later he confirmed that he'd be playing all of his hits. Lil Kim reposted the flyer on her Instagram Story with a message written over it that read, “This is SO FAKE! I am not a part of this.” Mase simply commented, “Best of wishes on this show but pls take my name off this flyer.”
Fans have been voicing their confusion in the comment section as they've stated that although T-Pain is scheduled for Lovers & Friends Festival, he's reportedly also supposed to perform at Rolling Loud the same day. Some also stated that Megan Thee Stallion is supposed to be performing at another event in Washington, D.C. that day, as well, but Broccolli Festival shared that she's scheduled for both events.
Some people have expressed that they're feeling "Fyre Fest vibes," but all id legit, according to Snoop Dogg. The rapper made a brief video where he shared that he was one of the booking agents for the concert and verified that everyone is confirmed. He stated that he thought he was speaking with Lil Kim's representatives when booking her, but if not, he told the Queen Bee to DM him so they could officially add her to the roster.
How to Celebrate the Moon Landing, From Coast to Coast
Tumblr media
It was one small step for man, and … well, you know. This summer marks the 50th anniversary of mankind’s giant leap, and NASA centers, museums and even entire cities are gearing up to celebrate, planning late-night moon parties, symphony performances and alien autopsies.
Here are eight standouts to help you get your moon magic on this summer.
The cities that got us to space
Cities in the United States where rockets were built, astronauts were trained and spaceships were launched are pulling out the stops to celebrate the men and women who got us into space, and back again.
Space Center Houston in Houston, Tex., (one of the 52 Places To Go in 2019) has celebrations planned starting July 16 — Apollo 11’s launch day — through the 24th, when the astronauts returned home.
The festivities center around NASA’s Johnson Space Center, and a fully restored, Apollo-era Mission Control room (down to the original polyester on the chairs), which will open to the public in June. Highlights in the roster of events include a ticketed dinner with former flight director Gene Kranz (who was portrayed by Ed Harris in “Apollo 11”) on Friday, July 19; a festival on July 20 with live music, STEM activities for children and a New Year’s Eve-style countdown to Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon; and a 1960s-themed Splashdown party on July 24th. Find details and tickets on the Apollo Anniversary Celebration website.
Apollo 11 launched from Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island, Fla., and the team there will be paying special tribute on July 16, along with a moonwalk celebration on the 20th. Details are still being finalized, but expect employees in period outfits, Tang to drink and a real-time re-creation of the launch morning in 1969. More event details to come.
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala., (another of this year’s 52 Places) is keen for the world to remember its role in getting a man on the moon — Huntsville developed the Saturn 5 rocket that got the Apollo missions off the ground. It is celebrating the achievements by simultaneously launching 5,000 model rockets at 8:32 a.m. on July 16 — a new Guinness World Record, assuming the launch is successful. Other festivities include an Apollo-era car show on July 13, an Apollo 11-themed beer garden on July 18, and Rocket City Summer Fest on July 20, an outdoor concert taking place “in the shadow” of Huntsville’s Saturn 5 replica. Find details and book tickets here.
Flagstaff, Ariz., is already in the midst of a year-and-a-half long moon-centric celebration; “Flagstaff’s Lunar Legacy” highlights the region’s role in training astronauts to go to the moon. Events include organized hikes to historic sites, like the United States Geological Survey’s simulated moon field and an all-day celebration at the Lowell Observatory on July 20th. Look for details on specific events and participating sites on the city’s website.
Celebrations from coast to coast
The Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum in Washington, D.C. will begin its festivities on July 16 with the unveiling of Armstrong’s newly conserved spacesuit. Other activities include “Discover the Moon Day” on July 19, which offers visitors chances to chat with museum scientists one-on-one about moon-related projects. A day-and-night celebration on July 20, that will run until 2 a.m., concludes the celebrations. Look for more details on the week’s events here.
San Francisco’s Exploratorium has organized a “Moon Month” with special exhibits, programs and more. View an installation from the Museum of the Moon (a large-scale model of the moon), tune in for a livestream of the July 2 solar eclipse in Chile or stop by for space-themed, adults-only “After Dark” events on Thursday evenings. On July 20, the museum will stay open until midnight and feature newly restored footage of the moon landing, Apollo-era music and costumes, and an after-hours dance party. Find Moon Month details here.
For an artistic take on the space race, head to Denver, Colo., for the Colorado Symphony’s Lunar Landing 50th Anniversary Celebration. The program, organized by the music director and self-described “space kid” Brett Mitchell, will feature renditions of John Williams’s scores from “E.T.,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and “Star Wars.” Two contemporary pieces from the composers Mason Bates and James Beckel will also be played. Expect sung and spoken-word accompaniments, references to John F. Kennedy’s 1961 moon shot speech, archival footage and a special surprise encore. Get tickets and details here.
To the moon … and beyond
No series of space celebrations would be complete without mention of Roswell, N. M., the self-proclaimed “U.F.O. capital of the world.”
The city’s annual U.F.O. festival, from July 5-7, will shine special attention on the moon landing in its roster of events. In addition to a parade, costume contests for pets and humans and “Men in Black”- themed flash mobs, attendees can catch moon shows at the Roswell Planetarium and watch an alien autopsy courtesy of the New Mexico Museum of Space History’s Mobile Museum. Get details and a schedule for the festival here.
A Kansas City radio station found a delicious way to throw shade on Mike Pence.
Mike Pence said he plans to be in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 11 to boast about the GOP's tax law that largely benefits the 1%.
Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images.
Not so coincidentally, a "sausage fest" was planned to take place in Kansas City the same day — right across the street.
Yeah, people are (literally) cooking up some good old-fashioned trolling of the vice president.
Again.
Local radio station 96.5 The Buzz is throwing "The Mike Pence Sausage Fest" and giving away free hot dogs at Barney Allis Plaza — right across the street from the downtown Marriott hotel where Pence is scheduled to speak.
"Pence is no fan of the LGBTQ+ community," the station tweeted on July 9. "And we’re no fan of his."
Mike Pence is coming to Kansas City this Wednesday. Pence is no fan of the LGBTQ+ community, and we’re no fan of his. So we’re throwing The Mike Pence Sausage Fest across the street at Barney Allis Plaza starting at 11a. Stop by and get a free hot dog while we have them! pic.twitter.com/nqWz1ZFnSQ
— 96.5 The Buzz (@965TheBuzz) July 9, 2018
It's admittedly pretty fun to troll Pence when it comes to LGBTQ issues.
Lots of others have done it.
His neighbor in Colorado hung a "Make America Gay Again" rainbow flag on a pillar near the VP's driveway in January. In March, John Oliver published a kids' book, "A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo," telling the tale of Pence's supposedly gay rabbit (proceeds benefitted an LGBTQ nonprofit).
In January 2017, when then-vice-president-elect Pence was making the leap from Indiana to Washington, LGBTQ advocates threw a "queer dance party" outside his temporary residence near D.C. (I'm not sure what would be more fun: free hot dogs or a #Resistance block party?)
— Left Wing Queen of Battle (@CrappyMovies) January 19, 2017
Laughs aside, though, Pence's egregious history on queer issues is downright scary.
At one point, Pence supported gay conversion therapy — a fact he wholeheartedly disputes to this day despite evidence to the contrary.
As governor, Pence effectively legalized discrimination against LGBTQ patrons in Indiana businesses with his religious freedom law. (Backlash to the draconian legislation was so swift, Pence was forced to carve out an amendment clarifying that the law couldn't be used to target the LGBTQ community.)
In the past, he's fought marriage equality, criticized the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and slammed the Obama administration for passing guidelines to protect transgender students in school.
For LGBTQ people and their allies, Pence may be the perfect motivation to throw a sausage fest — but he's still nothing short of a nightmare.
Learn more about and support LGBTQ groups — like GLSEN, Lambda Legal, The Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, The Trevor Project, and others — fighting back against the Trump-Pence administration's attacks on queer people and protecting those who are most vulnerable along the way.
