The Day I Met Neil
It’s been 15 years now and I still remember this gorgeous day at the 2008 National Book Festival. @neil-gaiman had a new book coming out (The Graveyard Book) and the crowds for him were overwhelming. Neil spoke, read an excerpt from the new book. It was lovely.
Tumblr media
I believe Dan, the web goblin, said there were over 5,000 people waiting in the signing line. It was intense. But this guy, my favorite author, the master of words and worlds, had the patience of Job. He signed every. last. thing. that people brought him. My copy of Fragile Things received my name in big letters and a huge exclamation mark!!
Tumblr media
I had read that he was searching for a copy of a rare book of etchings and prose by James Branch Cabell called Music From Behind the Moon. I happened to have a copy in excellent condition, including the protective case that I had enjoyed for years. Of course it made sense to me to gift it to someone who had gifted me so much through his amazing literary work.
Tumblr media
It’s not hyperbole to say that Neil’s writing changed my life, just the way good writing should. I can never repay that. Even in that moment, with the overwhelming crush of the crowd, he made me feel seen. And I was so honored that he loved my gift.

Anyway, 15 years! Wow! Meet your heroes 💕

National Book Festival
For the first time, the National Book Festival was held inside the air-conditioned confines of the Washington Convention Center. In recent years, the Festival was held on the National Mall, at the height of summer, in various hot and humid pavilions. The National Park Service thought that these and other events were causing too much damage to the Mall, and have asked event organizers to pick…

National Book Fest 2022 Recap
National Book Fest 2022 Recap
Sometimes I wish I could just travel around the country going to all of the different book festivals and conventions. Alas, I have limited funds and plenty of responsibilities here at home. But luckily I do have a twin sister who can attend some events in my stead! You may remember reading a guest post from Carly back when she first created her own book blog in 2018. While she no longer maintains…

I went to the National Book Festival for the first time today. It was pretty cool! I went to a couple author talks and was blown away by how insightful and expressive authors can be.
I also bought and started reading Last Night At The Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo. I’m not very far in but I love it.
It’s a lesbian coming-of-age romance novel set in 1950’s San Francisco with a Chinese American protagonist who falls in love with an Italian-American. I’m already loving the description of the Chinese American experience during that era. And I’m really excited to read about the Italian American experience from an outsider’s perspective. As an Italian American, I’m excited to see what things Lily finds strange or what things I don’t know about.
At this point I can think of a couple different ways to interpret the title. My initial reaction was that Last Night refers to a final night at the club, but now I think it could also mean simply the night before instead, a reference to yesterday as opposed to an ending.

Did anyone else have these growing up?
There were like 4 books for each element and t had snippets from the episodes and stuff about the culture of each nation and everything. I was only able to get fire and water. Bought them during the scholastic book fair when I was in elementary school. (the back even says "this edition is available for distribution only through the school market- scholastic" so idk if you can find this exact versions now unless through second hand or something idk! I dunno, someone correct me if I'm wrong)

These are so beat up. The water book has a page missing in the back that looks like it was cut up with a scissor 😭😩

I ATTENDED MY FIRST PHILIPPINE BOOK FESTIVAL! 📚✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is probably one of the happiest I've been as of recent.
Today, not only did I get to go on a friendly date with a good college friend of mine, but I also got to buy books and artworks from local writers and artists, attend seminars, watch shows, see fellow book club members, eat good food, document life as it happens, and just have some downtime from work to really live life. I needed this, and I'm glad I attended. This is what life should be about.
Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng taong nagtulong-tulong sa pag-organisa ng PBF 2024 at sa lahat ng publishers, manunulat, mangguguhit, at mga maliliit na taong bumubuo nito. You are doing an important work. 🌻

The Ark brought to the Temple
1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers’ houses of the people of Israel, before King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Zion. 2 And all the men of Israel assembled to King Solomon at the feast in the month Eth′anim, which is the seventh month. 3 And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark. 4 And they brought up the ark of the Lord, the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought them up. 5 And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who had assembled before him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered. 6 Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place, in the inner sanctuary of the house, in the most holy place, underneath the wings of the cherubim. 7 For the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, so that the cherubim made a covering above the ark and its poles. 8 And the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the holy place before the inner sanctuary; but they could not be seen from outside; and they are there to this day. 9 There was nothing in the ark except the two tables of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the people of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. 10 And when the priests came out of the holy place, a cloud filled the house of the Lord, 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.
12 Then Solomon said,
“The Lord has set the sun in the heavens,    but has said that he would dwell in thick darkness. 13 I have built thee an exalted house,    a place for thee to dwell in for ever.”
Solomon’s Speech
14 Then the king faced about, and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood. 15 And he said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying, 16 ‘Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city in all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.’ 17 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 18 But the Lord said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart; 19 nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’ 20 Now the Lord has fulfilled his promise which he made; for I have risen in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 21 And there I have provided a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.” — 1 Kings 8:1-21 | Revised Standard Version (RSV) Revised Standard Version of the Bible, copyright © 1946, 1952, and 1971 the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America. Updates 9/20
You might be wondering what I’ve been doing recently: 1) I decided not to attend the National Black Book Festival this year since its date conflicts with my niece’s birth and other challenges. 2) By the end of October, I expect to complete The Village Hidden in The Vale (Oracle, Book 2). I made a lot of progress on it in recent months–look forward to more on this novel soon. 3) This November,…
