Using Instructional Design to Improve Learning Environments
Photo by Kenny Eliason Using Instructional design to improve learning environments is a concept slowly becoming a requirement in education and industry. Although instructional design only recently becoming a phrase more widely used it has been a subject of discussion and study for many years. Visionaries? In 1964, Gene Roddenberry created Star Trek based on a society that had forgone currency…

HOW HAS YOUR JOB BEEN GOING SO FAR DEVIN? I KNOW YOU SAID YOU START TRAINING ON THE ....12TH?
YES OH MY GOSH
CHLOE
CHLOE
CHLOE
IT'S BEEN
IT'S BEEN REALLY WEIRD AND FUN AND SO TIRING
Okay, here's the thing, the first day was really great! I got to meet some members of the team I'm instructed to work with! I got really sleepy after my eight hours (I'm currently training myself to not rely on naptime in the afternoons anymore lol). But yeah, I got to see and interact with some of the kids!
Currently, I'm in a training center now (good for two weeks) and then I'm back in my center to shadow my seniors and actually start working with my kids.
Today was my fourth day at the training center and let me tell you, it's like being in school. It's all notes on powerpoints, group roleplay, quizzes, oh gosh! I know it's all in preparation for the certification exam that I'm supposed to take as soon as I finish a competency assessment at my center, but it can be so mentally taxing!
I'm glad that I have a psych background since it's been helping me out, but I looked ahead into future modules and we'll be delving into territory I'm not so familiar with. Everyone there goes to different centers (I'm the only one of my kind lol), but they're all so nice and friendly!)
Side note: You're talking to the King of Kahoot :D
Won 3 kahoots over the past few days!
Anywhoozles, I'm getting my first paycheck on the first (yes, the training is paid for heheh) and I can't wait to celebrate! :D
Thank you so much for asking! I'm glad that you remembered!

Evaluating fictional characters I suspect are autistic by taking self-assessment tests from their POV
The funny thing is when I consciously underplay my answers because "well, they wouldn't think this applies to them" and they STILL end up in the highest category of likelihood

in therapy today i just talked about the dark urge and astarion and my therapist was elated about it. it was fantastic. “wow you’ve really been using this story and those characters to process things. that’s amazing!”
the era of being ashamed of my interests is over. it’s apparently Cool and Healthy to use fiction to cope. i wish i could tell fifteen year old me about this it would blow her mind

What’s your occupation or career, area of study, and/or any topic(s) about which you have you have a lot of expertise??
Asking for fun and also to start a collection of miscellaneous field experts who can answer the random but highly specific questions a writer has when working on a fic/novel

it’s really difficult and frustrating when your doctors don’t quite know what’s mentally or physically wrong with you so you can’t get proper treatment

meds working is like. finding myself laughing at something. smiling big. crying easy cause i can feel again. anything beautiful or even vaguely sentimental sparks tears and sometimes it's such a ridiculous thing to cry at that i have to laugh again. not remembering the last time i felt really bad when i used to not remember the last time i felt really happy. saying that i'm doing alright and it's a good thing and not another way to say that i'm not doing well. things can be tough but overall i'm alright. things are alright. things are okay. driving with the windows down in late summer is fun and december's early nights are nice, actually, and maybe i just need to get out of bed and shower to feel less icky. i had a rough time today but it's not the end. happiness is not always transcendent. things are alright.

🤝 intern woes solidarity. We had one start last week who clearly does not want to be here—doesn't give feedback on what she wants to learn from the experience, doesn't try to engage with the process or ask questions, is just around to get credit for her program. Which, if she wants to waste her time fine I guess, but she Also is straight up afraid of our clients (I work at a homeless shelter) and it's like?? Girl why are you here learning nothing and making our clients uncomfortable. Either treat this learning opportunity as valuable or make someone else babysit you
YIKES!!!!!!! YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT'S NOT EVEN GIVING NET ZERO GIRL YOU ARE MAKING IT WORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am holding your hand.

anyway. nishiki and majima are both borderline and i could do a whole case study on either of them about it. send tweet
#im pretty flexible about most hcs regarding mental disorders and such but this take is one im like pretty fucking steadfast on#and I could write. an absurd amount about it. cause psychoanalyzing the shit out of characters is literally like. what I do for a living#and I have a weird special interest in abnormal psych and the dsm-5 in my closet and a psychologist for a mother and etc#but yeah so#inquire further at your own risk because I will talk. I will talk a lot#the only issue with majima is that I can’t evaluate his childhood and family life and just. his fundamental years of development in general#which is a pretty big deal when it comes to assessing for any personality disorder#nishiki oh yeah I absolutely can. but yeah we know basically nothing about majimas fundamental years. all I can really do is reverse#engineer so to speak based on how he is as an adult and what causes a person to do the things he does / be the way he is / etc#but of course that’d all be very very loose and hypothetical. FASCINATING to think about to me but obviously would have to be taken with a#huge grain of salt and be considered very very speculative#but I can say for sure that he didn’t have a stable and perfect home life/family life growing up I think that’s pretty safe to assume#anything more detailed than that is way more speculative but. yeah. I don’t think he was just. Normal. up until he was 20#his identity issues run way too deep for me to accept that concept#anyway I need to shut up#majima#nishiki#rambling
