Anyways, anyone want a live reaction summary of that movie? Well here it is anyways
(Cw for mentions of all the stuff typical for a jumpscare horror movie)
They‘re unironically trying to sell the house of the first movie as a spooky lost place far off a spooky village filled with distrustful and unsettling people it. Such scary individuals like. A middle-aged lady looking at them though a window. Or five guys sitting on stairs. And emo teens. Spooky
The random old crazy guy who tells them it’s DaNgeRous here while laughing totally maniacally before going GET OFF MY LAWN because of course

Also, our characters: MC Arthur fanboy whose 18th birthday it is, MC‘s love interest who thinks MC should grow up, Logan Paul Hair and his bro Goatee guy, Token dark skinned funny guy, Glasses guy afraid of frogs who‘s kinda got the same outfit and speaking style to yours truly fr that’s just me, Glasses girl with camera, pretty blonde girl. Prediction: all of them except MC, Love interest and one of the bros die
Ok they arrived at the house, whimsical music plays as they look amazed at the trees blooming pink when it’s not even spring…only for the music to cut out when they see they’re made of plastic. Ngl that was kinda funny
Spooky black feather stuck in a secret small door leading to a basement that wasn’t part of the movie oOoOOoh
Now it’s dark, they’re making a bonfire outside, and there’s spooky Hippopotamus noises (that’s what they called them in the movie)
NOT THE MC GETTING NIGHTMARES ABOUT DEER AND FLASHBACK SCENES FROM THE FIRST MOVIE LMAO
There‘s hidden figures in the woods with lanterns and this dude calls the names of some dudes they saw a lost place video of that house of. And when they suddenly all vanish he just goes back to bed
The bros are going to a river and glasses guy got lost in the woods while ominous music plays, Oh they’re absolutely not coming back F to them
Spooky random hole that’s seemingly endless but makes spooky sounds, check
There‘s suddenly spooky fog out of nowhere surrounding glasses guy. He touched a weird tree that had moss all over except for a part that looks like the outline of someone hugging the tree, and got punched in the face. Meanwhile the bros chill until blood drops on the one guy, aaaaand the filter switched to grey! 50min of nothing and then it escalates completely. This movie is 1.5h long btw
Turns out they found one of the guys from the video hanging from a tree after not seeing he‘s there for like 20min, dude steps on a super obvious bear trap trying to get him, but ngl the actors are doing a good job at acting as far as I can tell with the dub.

Apparently the whole house is just built on random holes connected to slopes and LI happened to sit above one on a swing. SG cut the rope and she fell down, almost made it out, but then a spooky hand grabbed her down. Where did the rest attached to that hand go? Who knows, it’s SpoOky
omg. You know how in guardians of the galaxy and such that one character thinks he’s invisible because he’s moving so slow? And it’s played as a joke? Yeah they just did that unironically with a guy standing in front of a door all this time I can’t-

A bunch of teens meeting each year to role-play a new theme. The year before it was Batman. This year it was Arthur and the Minimoys. And they go kill everyone like this because of drugs. Doesn’t explain all the stuff that was going beforehand. Or the secret basement. Or holes. Or anything really
OoOOoh Spooky Hoodie Guy is still standing at the window
(Also what happened to the deer imagery? They set that up for half the movie but the moment the forbidden ketchup starts appearing they completely forget all of it. ALSO the trailer showed spooky versions of the Minimoys. Guess what never makes an appearance.)
Conclusion: would give this movie a solid 4.5/10 for two funny lines and the guys playing the bros doing a pretty good job at putting emotion in

Chapter 20 - Blood and Sacrifice
Warnings: couple curse words, death of non-major characters, discussions of blood magic, brief mention of the Roman Blood Eagle (not graphic), suggestive language at the end.
I think that's it. Let me know if I missed anything.
Summary: Two letters addressed to Y/N arrive at the Burrow on the last day of Spring Break, prompting a few interesting discussions.

In spite of the lingering tension between Y/N and Mrs. Weasley, dinner on the last evening of Spring Break turned into a celebration with the arrival of two very important letters for Y/N. The first was from her grandma, allowing her to stay until August. The second was her acceptance letter from the Hemalurgy Apprenticeship Program, paving the way for her to persue her dream of becoming a researcher of magical blood diseases and blood curses.
"Tell me," Arthur asked as they gathered in the living room after dinner. "What prompted you to choose this particular career?"
"Friends," she answered with a sad smile. Fred reached out and patted her knee, while George put his arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer. They already knew this story.
"Wren and Rhys Taylor were twins. Sister and brother. They were three years ahead of me, both of them Pukwudgies, and two of the sweetest people I've ever met. They'd appointed themselves the unofficial welcomers for all first years; showing them around, answering questions, offering advice, those sort of things. Everyone who knew them, loved them." She smiled briefly, remembering.
"Unfortunately, they both suffered from blood malediction. Over the next couple of years, I became more and more determined to find a cure as I watched them slowly deteriorate." George gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze and she let herself melt further into his side.
"Near the end of their sixth year, their health took a nosedive. They were unable to get out of bed at times. We were all surprised when they returned for their seventh year. I think they were determined to graduate, even if it was the last thing they did."
"We're they able to? Graduate, I mean." Ginny's asked.
"Sadly, no. They could barely function most days. After about a month, they went home. Then, just before the Christmas holidays, we recieved word they'd both slipped into comas, passing away less than a week later. It's said their hearts stopped beating at the exact same moment."
Y/N fell silent, looking down at her hands. "Not a day goes by that I don't think about them."
"That's so sad." Ginny said. "They seemed like such lovely people."
Y/N looked up, eyes watery with unshed tears. "They were. We created the Taylor Welcoming Committee in their honor. Volunteers from all the houses join up every year. It's become a school-wide effort."
Mrs. Weasley leaned forward and patted Y/N's hand. "I think Wren and Rhys would be happy knowing the whole school comes together to carry on their kindness."
Y/N smiled. "Yes, I believe they would."

The conversation shifted to lighter matters for a time, allowing Y/N a bit of distraction, before their discussion returned to her future career.
"Other than finding a cure for blood malediction, is there anything else you want to research?" Arthur asked.
"Absolutely. I have a particular interest in lycanthropy. Did you know a werewolf bite and performing blood magic affect the body in a strikingly similar way?"
"No," Harry leaned forward, thinking of Professor Lupin. "How so?"
"In both cases, the magic fuses itself to the person's blood cells and everytime the cells regenerate, which around two million every second, the new cells carry the alteration. Their bodies become the physical manifestations of that particular magic. That's why the cure for lycanthropy is so elusive and it's also the reason most blood magic practicioners seek out sacrifices."
"Wait. I thought sacrifices were required for blood magic?" Arthur asked.
"That's the common belief. But, it's not true at all."
"So, why do people do it?" Molly asked.
"Blood magic, by it's very nature, is incredibly volatile and dangerous. However, when it works, the spellcaster gains unspeakable power, making them damn near unstoppable. When it doesn't work, well‐‐it makes the Roman Blood Eagle seem gentle and loving." Y/N paused to let her words sink in. The blood eagle was a horrific form of execution devised by muggles in Ancient Rome that eventually spread into the magical world.
"At some point," Y/N continued, "someone figured out how to transfer all the risk onto someone else, while the spellcaster obtains all the power. After that, blood magicians stopped taking so much care. Because, why would they? They were no longer the ones in danger."
"Cowards," Ginny spat. "Monsters."
"What are you babbling about Ginny? Those words don't even go together," Ron argued. "Monsters can't be afraid."
Fred chuckled. "Seriously, Ron? Are you that dense? Of course monsters can be afraid. That's what makes them monsters."
Ron stared at Fred as the room fell into silence. Any further questions were forgotten, swallowed whole by the raw truth of Fred's words.

Soon after, unable to revive any of their previous discussions, everyone either went to bed or wandered off elsewhere.
George and Y/N were lying in the field just outside the Burrow, stargazing, when they heard the crunch of footsteps on the grass. George sat up, turning. "Oh hi, Harry."
"I hope I'm not interrupting anything."
"No, not at all." George smiled and waved him over.
"We're just admiring the night sky," Y/N said, sitting up.
"Uh yeah, it's uh, it's beautiful." Harry's left hand twitched.
"You alright, mate?" George asked.
"I--uh--yeah. No, actually. No, no, not really at all."
"Can we help?" Y/N asked, patting the grass next to her and George. "Worried about the final tournament task?"
Harry sat. "No. Well, I mean, yeah. But, that's not why I'm here. I--I wanted to talk to you, Y/N, about the blood magic stuff."
"Oh, ok. What's on your mind?" she asked.
Harry picked at the grass for a minute before speaking. "Do you think Voldemort originally used blood magic to become so powerful?"
"Yes." Y/N said. "I'm certain of it. And I'm also pretty certain he didn't have the balls to take on the risks himself."
Harry nodded. "What spell do you think he used?"
"No clue." Y/N answered. "There are countless sanguine spells, most hidden away. I wouldn't even know where to begin looking. Sorry."
"It's ok," he said, giving Y/N a half-hearted smile.
The three sat in silence for a while. George and Y/N returned to their stargazing, while Harry continued to decimate his little patch of grass.
"Y/N?" Harry asked.
She and George turned back to face him. "Yes, Harry?"
"If Voldemort was so powerful, how did my mum protect me? Dumbledore said it was love, but after what you said tonight, I'm not sure that would've been enough."
Y/N took a deep breath. "Dumbledore told you the truth, just not all of it. Lily did use love to save you, but not in the way you think."
Harry's eyes bore into her own.
"Your mother's sacrifice was a form of blood magic."
Even in the darkness, George and Y/N could see all the color drain from his face. He swayed and George reached out to steady him.
Harry waved him off. "I-I'm fine," he stuttered.
George pulled back, but kept a keen eye on him, poised to move if Harry looked like he might collapse.
"What do you mean she performed blood magic? My mum wasn't--" Harry's words trailed off, unable to fathom the possibility.
"A monster? Evil?" Y/N asked. "No. What your mom did that night was as far from evil as a person could get."
Harry looked up at her. "But, I thought--"
"It wasn't sanguine magic in the way most people perceive it. Her actions were purely sacrifical, but also pure instinct. She probably didn't even realize the full measure of what she was doing." Y/N explained. "Because you and Lily share the same blood, she was able to infuse everything into you in that split second. Not just her love, but her power and her strength, and that of all your ancestors, magic or not. Voldemort didn't stand a chance."
"Purely sacrificial." Harry muttered. "That means she--"
"Did what any loving mother would've done," Y/N began.
"She took a bullet for you." George finished.
Harry lowered his head to hide his tears. "Thank you," he whispered, rising to leave.
"Hey, we're not letting you off the hook that easy!" George exclaimed.
"Wh--" Harry turned back, surprised to see their arms open wide.
"Group hug," Y/N said, her fingers motioning him back toward them.
Harry all but lept into their arms.

"I can hear you thinking," George said, as he and Y/N spooned in the guest bed.
"That loud, huh?"
"You're keeping me awake, love."
"Sorry sweetie," she said, rolling over to face him. "I just can't stop thinking about Harry."
George pushed her hair away from her face. "Poor bloke can't catch a break."
"That's the understatement of the decade," she said, giving George a small smile. "He's only fourteen. When I was fourteen, my biggest worries were the end-of-year-exams and whether or not grandma was going to let me visit Callie for a couple of weeks over the summer. I can barely comprehend the weight he carries."
"None of us can."
Y/N sighed. "I wish we could help more, ease his burden, somehow."
"We do," George said. "By just being his friends and being there when he needs us. I think tonight really helped. Well, at least, the group hug part."
Y/N giggled. "I suppose you're right. Who doesn't love a good hug?"
"Certainly not me." George pulled her closer. "You know, I think I might need some help falling asleep tonight."
"Again?" Y/N teased. "That's how many nights in row, now?"
"Lost count," he mummered against her lips, making her grin as he deepened the kiss.

I know it's spoilery but can you please tell us what you have planned for the second and third books? Will there be more murders in the museum or will we finally be able to get out?
Well screw it, I rarely keep with my plans so why not?
You will absolutely not be stuck in the museum by the time of Cantarella 2: Malediction. In fact, the last two books of the trilogy will take place abroad and you will have the opportunity to uncover two historical mysteries.
MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW BECAUSE I'M FEELING GENEROUS
Malediction is set in Egypt and revolves around Smenkhkare, a mysterious pharaoh that may or may not have been a legend. Dr. Jackson gets to help Riordan explore a tomb that has just been uncovered that bears Smenkhkare's name.
The final book, Vindication, is based on a project I did for college based on the idea that Alexander the Great was reburied in the tomb of a Catholic saint in Europe. There's a lot of action in this one and Henry romancers will really be fed well.
At least, those are my current ideas. Who knows what can happen between now and publication, especially since I only have scene snippets right now.
Other potential ideas I have that could replace these include:
Tracking down the tomb of Cleopatra and Marc Antony in the sunken city of Alexandria.
Was there a real King Arthur? (this is a nod to @kal-down who writes @the-kingshound. Check it out if you haven't already!)
Who was Jack the Ripper?
The Man in the Iron Mask that some believe was the twin brother of the King of France.

Christmas 2023 - Day 1 - The Mean One (2022)
On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...
A man dressed like a furry!
It's Dec 1st which can mean only one thing, it's time once again to lament on a not so 31 day filled Halloween marathon and shift to anticipating the arrival of a jolly fat man in an red costume. What better way to do that than with another round of holiday related media? And, being the purveyor of Grinchly related matters that we on this here blog, we're looking at a certain release from the space year 2022. "But Ellis…" I hear you cry as you erect your evergreen tree based shrine to capitalism, "it's day one. You only watch horror related Christmas movies on day one, right? Surely this is some sort of mistake…"
There is no mistake, friends.
For what we have here is one in a growing trend of cheap, 'no copyright intended' spins on popular franchises in an effort to make a quick buck on shock factor alone. I say trend, it's realistically only one other one given The Banana Splits Movie was licensed, as was 'Arthur, malediction' which I'm just learning about which is a spin off of the Arthur fantasy novels which were adapted into animated movies in the late 00's. The other big knock off children's horror is the infamous Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, which I think is able to delve deeper into the actual characters because it's dealing with a property that, at least in some part, had just entered into the public domain. Here, they skirt around the stuff that's liable to lead to litigation with such lines as "His name is The Gr…" "FINCH, ORDER FOR FINCH!" which leads to our villain being referred to simply as 'The Mean One'. But they're quite happen to revel in some of the key points of previous iterations, such as our protagonist being a girl named Cindi and existing dialogue, such as when Cindy is studying a sketch of The Mean One and wonders if his evil is because his shoes are tied to tight or whether his head isn't screwed on quite right.
The film starts out innocently enough with Cindi (no Lou), who is way more than 2, finds a shadowy figure in her living room that appears to be stealing their Christmas related paraphernalia. She hands him her necklace as a gift and he scampers off into the night, only, this story doesn't quite play out that way, as the scene suddenly shifts to Cindy's mother confronting the intruder, only to get knocked to the floor and finds herself impaled on an errant nail on the floor that goes through her neck and kills her.
A young Cindy is asked to draw the intruder but leaves police puzzled when she draws a green, furry Santa. He looks surprisingly happy here, it's kind of a cute drawing if it wasn't tinged with the reality of bloody murder.
Twenty years later, she's back in 'Newville' and looking to deal with her traumatic past at the behest of her therapist. She and her father roll into town with their car decorated with reindeer horns and a shiny red nose, only to get pulled over and told such things are illegal within city limits. Apparently it's too distracting for the other drivers. Honestly, Frank Costanza has the same problem with tinsel.
Things only get stranger for Cindy and her Dad when they go to find decorations to spruce up their place for Christmas, only to find no store in town sells them. But no matter, Dad is able to find some old ones knocking about the place and promptly sets them all up.
But celebrations are short lived when a rampaging beast breaks into their home and attacks daddy, finishing him off by pinning him against the front door and driving a pointed candy cane through his skull and out of his eye socket. Tony from Hack the Movies would not be thrilled.
The movie hints at a few different things from here, with Cindy having a psychotic episode on account of the same green monster killing both of her parents some twenty years apart, staring at her bloody hands like she's New Generation Bob Backlund after choking out someone with the Cross Faced Chickenwing. You've got her trying to look for answers while a suspicious police force keep an eye on her and a frustrated mayor is on the scene trying to cover everything up Jaws style because she's worried about how the bad publicity will affect her attempts at re-election.
And it's here that I feel the movie starts to fall short. We come to learn that The Mean One is alerted to all things Christmas and will come murder your ass if you so much as hum Jingle Bells to yourself so pretty much all mention of the big C has been eliminated in the town of Newville. But this movies feels so small that it's never able to fully run with that concept or show the ramifications of that. There's some obvious recency bias here but looking back at something like Halloween Ends, and the whole trilogy, I obviously waxed lyrical about how those movies really looked at the town of Haddonfield itself and focused on how the actions of Michael both 40 years ago and through to the present day shaped the town itself and it's inhabitants. But here, there's such a small cast of characters that we never really get to see how the townspeople have been affected by this or how they react to outsiders coming in. Even when Cindy and her Dad are after decorations only to find no one sells them, that all happens off screen. It would have been much more interesting to see the shopkeepers being nervous or even hostile to the idea of these two mentioning the word Christmas, alluding to some conspiracy as to why the town keeps the whole thing under wraps. Show, don't tell.
I think that could actually be a neat concept for someone to explore, Christmas is obviously such a ubiquitous thing in society and something that brings joy to so many, why wouldn't you want to go spread that with everyone? Wouldn't it be weird if you turned up somewhere and everyone was against it? Actually, to dip back into one of my ongoing tropes, this would actually be a really cool stealth 'War on Christmas' horror movie. Someone feels they're being persecuted in not being allowed to celebrate Christmas and goes to great lengths to break the rules of the town by putting up displays, playing music etc but is actually doing more harm than good as their actions bring this evil force into play and puts peoples lives in danger.
That's not to say that the movie is without it's charms, if you want gratuitous gore than it has that, specifically a scene where The Mean Ones slaughters a bunch of drunken revelers dressed in festive costumes. The Mean One is played by David Howard Thornton who also plays Art the Clown in the Terrifier movies which actually makes a lot of sense when looking back at this one scene because it's very Art like in the way he does this almost theatrical routine in front of his confused would be victims before starting his slaying. The movie isn't quite as cheap as I was expecting and I felt pretty engrossed throughout, it only takes a bit of a dive at the end as it really ramps up the stock footage and phoney looking news reports which very much smack of 'let's get one of my mates in a cheap suit and stick them in front of a green screen'. Maybe I'm too used to these big Hollywood movies that shell out to have respected news presenters like Sophie Raworth show up to tell us that the world is ending.
The acting feels pretty lame all round and, surprisingly, the whole thing is played way more seriously than I expected. I did like Doc Zeus actually, partly for his odd name and also for being somewhat convincing as a grizzled, old hunter who is out avenge his murdered wife who was chopped to bits by The Mean One. The movie doesn't really venture into the silly buggers territory until two thirds of the way in when it abruptly turns into Home Alone meets Terminator where Cindy goes all Sarah Connor and has a Rocky-esque montage to become skilled in all manner of hand to hand combat and firearms, before setting up her house with bear traps, machine guns and bauble based explosives to help her in her final showdown with The Mean One.
She definitely paid $5 for the Festive Gun Skin DLC though.
And SPOILER WARNING, I do kinda dig the anticlimatic ending somewhat where Cindy has The Mean One beat but hesitates in pulling the trigger on getting her revenge, that whole 'if you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you' thing and actually forgives him.
This causes his heart to grow three sizes that day, only in the Moe Szyslak 'this is a serious medical problem' sort of way and his heart promptly explodes 5 seconds later. Huh.
The whole ending is another sign of them not having the scope to deliver on their ideas because they try to get across in flashback that The Mean One didn't mean to kill Cindy's mum, that he was horrified by his actions and Cindy's reaction to him after initially being so welcoming to him tipped him over the edge and made him into the monster he would become. Which, again not wanting to sound like 'let's just turn this movie into Halloween Ends', would have been an interesting thing to see play out. If you had The Mean One be at least semi-sociable like the 2018 Grinch that would be out and about in Whoville, only this accident makes the town ostracize him like Corey Cunningham in Halloween Ends, you're actually developing that sense of sympathy over the course of the movie instead of trying to humanize him with a 10 second flashback right at the end.
So in a lot of respectives, this is a pretty lacklustre movie but I have to at least give it some credit for seeming like it had some decent ideas that it wasn't able to execute. I was going in expecting full on cheap explotation to come out somewhat pleasantly suprised is at least something. The costume on The Mean One is pretty good too. They put some effort into the mask and it helps sell the scary factor. The movie is just an odd curiosity and I can imagine some people might get some mileage out of it, if you just want a Christmas gorefest or a novelty piece of subversion on a childhood classic, it's got that going for it.

We have also discovered that by the time you took Lady Tinni away with you per your last visit, you buried grenades in Her Ladyship's former room, now converted into a powder and lavatory room by the duchess.

My good man,
I believe you may have mistakened me for none other than my own Lord Cousin and your lady’s betrothed, Prince Julius. A common mistake really, as though he is shorter than I am and whose hair color matches the preposterous illustration General Liza had received, we do share the same preferred barbershop.
Opening the gas valve of the house? Playing scary tricks on others? Could be nothing more than my dear cousin Julius reliving his childhood days from when he and my uncle’s family lived in Castle Velthomer. I am sure you are familiar with the gossip that goes around at the royal court, no? Of how mischievous the future emperor was back then, whose to say he isn’t now too? I would reckon these maledictions are simply part of a test so to speak, to ensure that the dukedoms my Lord Cousin will lead do not falter to the whims of royal tomfoolery.
As for the incident in my aunt’s room, I suppose the Prince wanted to renovate it to his own liking. It was too grand of a room compared to the others and what came after the event you described was simply the right call of the Prince. The only event which I had taken part in was relocating Lady Tinni to Silesse, something that had consequentially been easier to achieve thanks to Prince Julius’ antics. Although I’m sure she would not be missed by my aunt nor be of any use to my uncle anyways.
I ask that you revaluate your investigations again, lest the whole family mistakes the Prince’s visits to that of a scoundrel’s. Treachery of any sort will not be tolerated by our house, afterall.

So I came across this awesome fashion post and was reminded of dress robes...so here we have a 25-year-old Carewyn Cromwell as the lawyer in charge of prosecuting Dolores Umbridge for her crimes during the Second Wizarding War. She got her hair cut, as you can see! In the 90′s, when the original books are set, there was a lot less of the “big hair” popular during the 80′s, and short, more modest hairstyles became more common. Think of this as a #Future!MC Challenge? 8D
More Future!Carewyn lore under the cut!
The Second Wizarding War was...difficult for Carewyn. Although she had so much baggage with Dumbledore, she agreed to join the Order of the Phoenix, but only on her own terms. Carewyn never attended any of the Order’s meetings in person, preferring to stay in touch solely through her old friends Tonks and Jae, so as to stay at an advantageous position within the Ministry without Fudge suspecting her of associating with known Dumbledore allies like Professor McGonagall or the Weasleys. Even if she wasn’t very active on the battlefield against Voldemort, Carewyn nonetheless provided quite a bit of covert support to them by silently sabotaging Fudge and the Death Eaters at the Ministry. It was a struggle to stay silent and composed in the face of the Death Eaters’ tyrannical takeover of the Ministry and persecution of Muggle-borns and political dissidents, but Carewyn knew she had to strike at the proper moment, if she had any chance of delivering a fatal blow to someone as powerful as Voldemort. This doesn’t mean it wasn’t very, very hard for her not to lash out violently in defense of the people the Muggle-Born Registration Commission hauled into court on trumped-up charges. She was able to smuggle intelligence out to other Order members who helped with rescuing some of those prisoners or protecting wanted fugitives, but Carewyn never forgave herself about the many people she was unable to help.
Meanwhile Carewyn’s brother, Jacob Cromwell -- now a rather prominent Cursebreaker and traveling magical researcher -- helped the Order by hiding Muggle-born fugitives in a secret room he’d constructed in his flat. Even though Ministry officials searched his home multiple times, Jacob’s combination of both magical and Muggle tricks kept the families in his care from being detected every single time.
When the Battle of Hogwarts began, the Minister and his entire support staff left the Ministry to either join their true master Voldemort or (in the case of Percy Weasley) join the Order. Carewyn -- realizing how dangerous it would be to leave the Ministry unprotected when Voldemort and the Death Eaters were still at the height of their magical power -- instead stayed behind, incapacitated the head of the Muggle-born Registration Commission Dolores Umbridge, put her under citizen’s arrest, and took temporary charge over the remainder of the Ministry’s staff. Carewyn sent the majority of them either home to their families or to Hogwarts as reinforcements -- the few employees who chose to stay behind then helped Carewyn with securing the Ministry against a possible assault by the Death Eaters in case they returned and with starting the process of rescuing the Muggle-borns and political enemies imprisoned in Azkaban and its related camps. By the time the Battle of Hogwarts was over, the Death Eaters had lost everything -- their leader, most of their members, and all the power they’d accrued over the Wizarding World.
After the Battle, Carewyn arrived at Hogwarts, seeking out Jacob, who’d gone to fight in her stead, as well as Percy, who at that point would’ve been the legal successor to the role of Minister. While there, she learned of the deaths of Tonks, Lupin, and Fred. The three deaths, on top of the past deaths of other dear friends like Rowan, Cedric, Kyril @kyril-hphm, Moody, and Dobby, were too much for Carewyn to bear. Even now, years later, she resents herself for not having been able to take care of and protect her friends the way she thinks she should have.
Since Percy had resigned as Junior Undersecretary mid-battle, it was decided that an election would have to be held very quickly -- in the meantime, Kingsley Shacklebolt took on the role temporarily, with Carewyn, Arthur Weasley, and Percy serving as support. (Shacklebolt would go on to be nominated and elected Minister for several terms.) Carewyn specifically almost singlehandedly took on the task of bringing everyone who had aligned themselves with the Death Eaters to court to receive proper justice. Fortunately, unlike Barty Crouch, Sr. during the First Wizarding War, Carewyn never railroaded her defendants or lost sight of who she was getting justice for. Every time she faced an accused Death Eater or Voldemort sympathizer, Carewyn felt the presence of her friends in that courtroom with her. And when she looked into her defendants’ eyes and -- through her Legilimency -- saw no sincere love in their minds or souls, the lawyer once called “Cursebreaker Cromwell” became all the more convinced that love was the strongest magic of them all.
Interestingly, although Carewyn prosecuted all three Malfoys, she actually offered relevant evidence and testimony she came across in her own investigations to the defense attorneys assigned to Draco and Narcissa Malfoy. She never let go of her dislike for Lucius Malfoy or his wife, but perhaps because of her sympathy for Draco Malfoy’s position as well as her having met him when he was a kid, Carewyn didn’t express vocal disappointment when the Wizengamot pardoned the Malfoy family after the War. In Draco’s case specifically, Carewyn believed that he, unlike his parents, had the potential to reform himself. She even visited Draco after he was released from custody and -- reminding him of what he’d said to her before they’d parted ways so many years ago -- challenged him to a friendly duel.
Carewyn Cromwell’s name never became world-renown, but the cases she was involved in, both regarding the War and not, became her legacy. Thanks to her efforts, countless Death Eaters were arrested; victims of the Muggle-born Registration Commission received proper compensation and justice; the Statute of Secrecy was relaxed so that Muggle spouses of witches and wizards were allowed to know of their partner’s magical talent before having children with them; and the High Inquisitor position was dismantled so thoroughly that no similar position could ever be created again.
