I don't think you did anything wrong. When a story is being written, there are a lot of different ways to adress and express something and maybe that's why you're being misunderstood. I think there are just too many things to adress in this story that maybe some people will get when these things are implicitly implied and some people will not. So when a breaking point comes, they'd think it came out of nowhere. You can see this with the amount of asks you receive asking you often the same thing.
Does that mean it's wrong? Ofc not! I myself was a little bit confused with Frisk's reactions and conduct in general until you explained it in your recent asks, and I thought man, that was what I was missing!
Now, yes I believe some parts of the story could have been explained in a different way, because in my opinion there's a lot to read between the lines. If you don't try to understand the characters, you'll clearly be confused as hell. But that's why I love this story! As you said before, there's nothing meant to be black/white coded, and I really appreciate the world and the character's complexity in general. You don't have some of the answers in hand, an that's when you have to analize! (At least that's what I do haha)
I also really felt like telling you something I've been relating to, so I'm putting the respectives tw if someone doesn't want to keep reading (TW: Suicide mention).
In the DW Arc, when the Christmas and Feylow stuff happened, I realised through Chara that I was doing the exact same thing with a friend of mine. He was going through a lot of stuff, and tried to commit suicide multiple times. I was focusing a huge amount of energy on him because I was afraid to lose him, and when he suddenly stopped talking to me so he could take a break, I felt really lost. Because he was the person I talked with the most, one of my dearest friends, and the idea of losing him and not being there to stop it made me insanely anxious, because that used to be the situation most of the times. Now it's been a year since he's stopped talking to me, and I don't exactly know the reason. But I couldn't keep running behind someone who didn't seem to keep wanting me around. And if it wasn't for you, I couldn't have realized how much this was hurting me.
And now, as much as it hurts me to see him acting this distant and cold with me, I'm okay with it. I really am. Because I now have the tranquility to see him continue, even when things are not okay. I can't force a friendship and I really needed to understand that back then. I trust him as much as he trusts me.
I really wanted to thank you for writing this story because it has helped me in a way I didn't expect, and I'm sure it will help a lot of people too! I'm even learning from your way of taking and discussing things haha.
I just wanted you to have this tranquility I have with this story because I trust it'll work out and explain itself once it's finished. And I just can't express how thankful I am to be reading your story.
Thank you again,
I'm looking forward to more of your work and please, take care! Don't stop doing what you enjoy! 🦋
putting it under a readmore because of how long the ask/response is, sorry!
i’m at a loss of words because wow, this ask really hit in a way i’ve never really could of anticipated. when writing AFR, i write a story about things I felt. I’ve been Chara, I’ve been Asriel and Frisk at points in my life. I write because I need to tell their stories and make it real, specifically for my own sake of getting through my own pain and to tell the world this is who i am and that I will be ok, there is hope in this world. It’s a selfish desire for me, but ultimately that’s what art is i feel. I couldn’t draw this much and put so much time and effort into something without it being meaningful or personal.
but art is communication, and when I write to be seen and to be heard, I know there’s others who are reading and are connecting with the work. (otherwise, I wouldn’t be getting asks right? its a lonely process, i forget there’s the second half of the equation -you guys) and i’ll do my best to make sure people are accommodated and can experience this story without hurting in a way that’s past enjoying a emotionally gripping piece of media. i don’t want people to be upset or hurt for my work, and I want to ensure I can make this without hurting others.
I try to leave a lot of ambiguity and room for people to interpret stories and I don’t mind people missing the point or interpreting things vastly differently than what I intended. that’s fine, that’s what art is all about. i don’t want to hold people’s hands and tell them what’s happening or what they should feel -i want them to choose and decipher and think things over. stories should be stimulating and thought provoking, and i can’t decide what those thoughts are. I wouldn’t want to. Personally, if it means people become more confused and lost over the story -well, that’s a trade off I have to take. if it means the story is more up-to-interpretation, than it’s worth it to me.
i do regret with how fast and punchy the arc ended up, and I feel my hints may have been too weak. asriel/flowey has been bluntly surprised/asking to be killed twice, he hasn’t felt like himself since dying and has lost his support systems ect. as a person who’s Been Through Shit, I thought it was as obvious as the sun what was to come but thinking on it now?
with how distance asriel is, how limited the perspective is to chara (who hasn’t known Asriel has been going thru the same depressive/suicidal thoughts as they have this whole time) it was a shock to the system. and in a way that’s fine in my eyes if the reader was completely shocked as you can emphasize more with chara that way... but in the same sense its horrifying for them, it must be for the reader as well.
and I do feel I should of thought of a way to handle the scenario to where it was less in your-face with Asriel’s decent into desperation and attempts. I don’t want to ever show it on screen, I don’t want to ever go into detail and make it any sort of fun for the viewer. it’s supposed to be disturbing and painful and I tried to show how greatly painful it was affecting both chara and frisk. Suicide victims are victims and everyone involved suffer from it. It’s ugly and never something one should be anything but ugly.
that is my intent for it be that, but as I’ve heard from people it’s still a shock and went too far. Authorial intent doesn’t matter when people react to your stories. yes, the context can be good to have, but people’s feelings and reactions mean the world more. I hope with the added context of the complete story that helps it in the long run, but as it is I’m very unhappy with how I tackled it and I don’t really have a good answer to how I should of gone about it. but at the end of the day that doesn’t matter as it happened and I can’t change it.
i’m sorry about your friend and i’m sorry for the pain you’ve experienced as well. it’s not easy being in that position (nor is it for ur friend as well of course) and it’s perfectly fine to feel hurt and to take time for yourself to address those feelings. You, as a person, matter and your feelings are justifiably important as well. nobody asks to be mentally ill and your friend’s choices aren’t fully theirs because of that, but it doesn’t change how it’s affected and hurt you. Losing someone’s friendship has always been a painful and inevitable experience people must go thru in life. I’m sorry that you’ve gone through that, but I’m glad -so happy that my story has helped you in any amount. I sincerely wish you both the best and to heal, I’m proud of you anon for getting through this.
I can’t really express how much it means as a writer to see how my work helped you. Like I mentioned before, I write and feel like it’s by myself that makes this work but it’s a 2 way street -you guys contribute to the story and the story only exists and is perceived by you. without an audience, it really truly is just me here. what you gain and experience within a story is just as important as the writing of the work itself and I often forget that.
Thank you. This was a really nice and eye opening ask and it’s going to be on my mind for a while, haha. I hope once the story is done and I can post-correct how I handle the story, people can learn and gain meaning to it like you have. Sorry if this was a bit rambly, I’m very thankful for your response (as well as everyone else who’s messaged!) and I’m very happy and excited to continue and to do my best. Thank you all so much.

Poppy Fanfic: “Ask Her”
For context: This is a fanfic I wrote in order to join the Poppy Milk dev team and show off my writing skills. Since the callout at the time said we’d need to write a lot of sidequests, I wanted to ask the question of what a Poppy-centered side-quest would be like. I got the idea that it would be from an Asker’s perspective, and everything sort of came naturally after that. Even though I’m on the dev team right now, it’s not canon to Omega Timeline: Poppy’s Story and even has some inaccuracies that contradict canon. With that said, please feel free to read the story below the cut.
---
You noticed something very different inside your room when you woke up. The lights were off and the sun hadn’t yet risen, but there was a certain… aura, coming from your door. You were filled with a certain trepidation, but… you approached it. It was hard to see in the light, but it looked… grey.
Swallowing the lump in your throat, you stepped through...
...and found about the last person you would’ve expected. The spitting image of Frisk - CORE!Frisk, that was, looking up at you, in the middle of a white void.
“Wh- You’re real?!” you asked, dumbfounded.
“Of course I’m real. Have you been taking all this multiverse stuff for granted? Everything is real somewhere,” Core answered, simply.
“I… I don’t… and you, me…” you panted, starting to feel a small panic attack coming on.
“Focus,” Core snapped their fingers, grounding you back in reality. Okay, this was happening now.
“Let’s get down to business. Simply: you don’t like me. And I don’t like you. But we BOTH like Poppy. Poppy, my dear, sweet angel… has unfortunately recently come to the realization that Askers ALSO exist in the multiverse. And now she wants to do a ‘meet n’ greet’ with one of her fans. Trust me, I TRIED to talk her out of it, but she can be darn persuasive when she wants to be. And as you’re now realizing, that’s where you come in.
“I wanna make you a deal. You play along with whatever Poppy wants until she gets bored of this. If you’re on your best behavior - and that means, don’t give her anything bad, don’t tell her anything you KNOW she shouldn’t know, don’t use any magic, and be a general good influence - if you play nice, in exchange, I will allow you to hang out with ANY resident of the Omega Timeline.
“Want to spend a day full of wacky hijinks with a Papyrus, or even an Underswap Sans? Consider it done. Want to know how Deltarune Chapter 2 plays out ahead of time? I know a Susie with your name on it. Whatever you want, so long as you play by the rules, and don’t ask for anyone obviously ridiculous. So… do we have ourselves a deal?”
You contemplated that offer, and everything that was happening, trying to suppress your inner urge to geek out for just a few moments. The Omega Timeline, Poppy, and all the AU’s you could think of and more were real. And you just got an invitation to visit them.
“Yeah, of course!” you nodded excitedly, though your enthusiasm only seemed to make Core more anxious.
“Don’t make me regret this…” Core sighed, as the whiteness seemed to melt away into a cozy-looking house with wooden floors and lime walls, where you were standing directly outside of a white door. Core seemed to have disappeared.
Technically, there was nothing stopping you from exploring. So you did just that. You walked up to a shelf with some family photos. One was a photo of Poppy, Core, Dusted and Rust all together, in some meadow, looking happy. At least, you assumed Dusted and Rust were happy, they didn’t show up well on camera. There was another photo of Poppy alone, looking somewhat younger than she did on the blog, seated on a chair in a photo that looked far more staged. She held an actual poppy flower in her hand and smiled brightly.
You opened the cabinet doors, curious of what knick-knacks you might find in there. Some crayons, a few random glass cups, some art by 3-year-old Poppy that was so poorly done its meaning was hard to decipher, and a locked box. You reached for the box--
“Getting a bit sidetracked, aren’t we?”
You jolted up, and faced Core behind you. Even though they were child-sized, they crossed their arms with the poise and authority of a stern parent. You laughed anxiously. “Ahahaha… ahaha… ha……..”
“...Strike one.” Core said, and vanished. The meaning of that was all-too clear. Deciding not to dilly dally any longer, you went to the room you suspected to be Poppy’s, and knocked.
“Just a sec!” Poppy said, and opened the door. She looked up at you, and gasped. “Wow, Granpa really did come through…!” She twirled excitedly. “You must be my adoring fan, aren’t you?” she asked.
You stared down at the girl in stunned silence.
“To be honest, I kinda figured you’d be some gray guy with sunglasses, but that’s kinda silly in hindsight. How you doin’?” She asked that last line in a mock accent as you continued to stare.
“Baby,” you said.
“What?”
“Nothing,” you quickly tried to change the subject. “Yeah, it’s… y’know, it’s great to be here…” You clasped your hands together, biting your lip. You were in an Undertale AU, faced with the AU granddaughter of another AU character. You still weren’t entirely over that. Was this fever dream? Fandom heaven, or fandom hell?
“I know! Once I heard you guys weren’t from the Omega Timeline, I realized I hadn’t met even ONE of my fans… even if you guys are super annoying some of the time.”
“Uhhh, yeah…” you wondered if you should apologize on behalf of the askers who put Poppy in the hospital that one time. Then again, it seemed kind of awkward, and it might have been best not to bring that up while Core was watching, which was always. Looking down at the cutesy girl, it was almost tempting to pull her into a hug, but you managed to keep your composure.
“I wanted to do something a little more special than just some sorta interview, though, because you ask me questions all the time anyways,” Poppy said. “Granpa said you’ve never been to the Omega Timeline before, so I wanna give you the big tour!” Poppy went to the door. “I’m gonna be outside when you’re ready!” She left the room.
Seeing the empty room in front of you, you were tempted to snoop again, but you’d learned your lesson after last time. You headed straight out after Poppy.
You couldn’t help but gasp in awe of the serenity of the great outdoors as you were beckoned to it. You’d been outside before, obviously, but everything just looked so… nice. The blue sky, the grassy grounds, the ornate buildings… you’ve seen this place in pixel art and a couple drawings before, but seeing it with your own eyes was another story. And the next thing for you to nearly faint at was seeing the Undertale characters running around, Sanses, Undynes, Frisks, even goat moms.
Poppy smiled. “...It’s nice, isn’t it? I KNEW taking you on a tour was a good idea.” She smirked. “Now remember, just because this is a meet-up doesn’t mean it’s free, and there WILL be a fee at the end of our ride.”
“...Uh… I left my wallet at home,” you said, patting your pockets, “And I don’t have any, uh... ‘G,’ I think. Unless the G stands for ‘Gratitude,’ amiright?” you did finger guns.
“G stands for Gold,” Poppy corrected you bluntly, unamused. She returned to her chipper attitude just as quickly, though. “Now, let me show you around!” She led you down the street.
Walking with her, seeing so many versions of your favorite characters in the flesh, walking around… well, the temptation to talk to SOME of them was irresistible, Core be damned. You did resolve not to go too far off-track, but you shared some words with the folks you passed by, Poppy thankfully stopping each time you did. You met two Frisks - one boy, one ambiguous - an Underswap Undyne, a human version of Toriel, and surprisingly, a version of Princess Peach.
You and Poppy approached an elegant fountain, stood upon proudly by a statue of a mustachio’d CORE!Frisk. “This is the Timeline Plaza! It’s sort of the local park, where people meet up to do... stuff. Just hang out. Make a picnic. Play ball. All that good park-y stuff, y’know? And there’s stores in all directions, so it’s pretty good.” She proudly showed off her home to you, with a smile.
You talked to more on the way to the next place. An Inverted Fate Papyrus. A weird Ralsei who said his name was “Noyno.” An Asgore wearing a hoodie, who you assumed was swapped with Sans. (Poppy did scold you a little bit for this, telling you that just because someone has a hoodie you shouldn’t assume they’re swapped. You apologized.)
“This is Grillby’s! One of them, anyways. The nearest one to my house. It’s pretty good if you want an OK burger. Sanses love the place, though. It’s… kind of unhealthy. And a little gross.” Poppy said. “Especially when they just drink… raw… ketchup.”
“Can’t handle a little ketchup?” you smiled mischievously. “We drink it by the gallon back in my universe,” you lied.
“...I really hope you’re joking,” Poppy said, alarmed.
“Am I?” you smiled brighter.
“...W-well, we’re not going in there, so you can FORGET about drinking that much ketchup!” Poppy said, afraid of the sheer power of your ketchup-drinking.
You and Poppy moved onto the next spot. You met an Underswap Alphys who seemed to be trapped in a red-and-gold palette. You met a robot dressed as a circus ringmaster, who claimed to be a Chara. You met a Dummy dressed in a Frisk shirt. (You didn’t assume it was swapped with Frisk this time, which turned out to be a mistake, because it was.) Poppy stared at you awkwardly now, wondering why you were talking to all these random strangers. Finally, you and Poppy reached your next destination.
“The theater! Where we show off all the greatest hits! Including MY movie, which, not to brag, but it’s--”
Except, you’d been distracted by a hyperdeath Asriel, and were ignoring Poppy for the moment.
“...” Poppy spoke up. “That’s what I don’t get about you.”
“Huh?” that seemed to wake you up, and you looked at her.
“Everytime it’s always, ‘have you met Underswap Sans,’ or ‘have you met JangoTale Frisk,’ or some other weird thing. You always ask that. But… they’re just people. Why do you always assume I know some random Sans or Frisk or someone?”
“I…” you were a bit taken aback. “...I don’t… we don’t assume you know them, they’re just… they’re just important.”
“Important?” She asked. “...I-I mean, yeah, EVERYONE’s important, but, I don’t really get what you mean…”
“They’re all--” You paused, trying to collect your thoughts, think of everything you knew from the blog, and tried to actually talk to her. “...They’re like friends to me. Kinda.”
“...You guys are friends with them? I thought you were stuck in your world…” she frowned.
“No, it’s like-- I’m not ‘friends’ with Underswap Frisk, or-- or Storyshift Frisk, or Shifty or whatever, I’m just friends with… Frisk.”
...Poppy stared at you like you just said the ground was turning to jelly, or something equally bafflingly inane. “...I… think you’re confused. Look, sometimes newcomers struggle with this. Your Frisk isn’t the only Frisk--”
“I know! It’s… You don’t get it. This world, these worlds are so special and creative, and they mean a lot to me. I know we can be really edgy, and I know we ask weird questions about Dusted and Rust, but that’s all because… because...” you paused.
Poppy looked, seeming upset about hearing her siblings mentioned in the context of ‘edgy’ questions, not seeing what you were seeing. Core, standing behind her, holding up a hand signal.
The number two.
You were getting carried away. You overstepped.
“...Um… I’m sorry.” You pulled her into a hug as Core vanished. “There’s really no reason for us to ask those questions. We can just be dumb sometimes.”
“...” She hugged back. “Yeah, it’s okay. I knew you guys were super weird and dumb before I convinced Granpa to let you in here, so I guess I should’ve seen this coming,” Poppy smiled, regaining her confidence as you did your best to not be offended at being called weird and dumb.
“Okay! I think I have just one last stop in mind to cap this tour off on a high note! Literally, hehehe…” She giggled mischievously. This time, you didn’t stop to talk to others, following her directly as you approached a peak overlooking the town. For yet another time, and probably the last, you couldn’t help but ogle at the town’s beauty. “Pretty good, right?” She sat down.
“Ha… with all the climbing, I was worried we’d fall down a mountain,” you joked. Poppy seemed to roll her eyes, as you sat beside her. “...I guess I get how you can call this place home. I mean, once I stop nerding out, anyways. You don’t see stuff like this in my… reality.”
“Just gallons and gallons of ketchup, huh?” she commented. You couldn’t help but laugh.
“Yeah.”
And you two just stared into the distance for a while. ...She wasn’t just a character. She was a human being.
...Or, technically just a ‘being,’ scratch the human part. Still, you felt a bit desensitized to all this. And so did she. You related in that way.
“I can’t say you exactly passed with flying colors, but you fulfilled your end of the agreement well enough.”
Without any warning, you were back in a white void with CORE!Frisk, just like before. You almost forgot about the deal you made, what with all the time you spent with Poppy. You stood.
“Uh… yeah. So, my reward…” you drifted off, remembering the offer Core gave you. The chance to meet just about any AU character of your imagining… or at least, any that would be peaceful enough to be in the Omega Timeline. Which still left a WIDE variety of options…
Who did you want to see? What mattered most to you?
...
Thinking deeply… you told Core their name.
“...Oh. Really? Well, I guess it makes sense for you that you’d want to see them,” Core remarked. “I can’t guarantee they’ll give you what you’re looking for, but a deal’s a deal. Let’s head off.”
You and Core went somewhere else.
---
And that’s all she wrote! If you read this far, thank you. Working on the game since then has been fun, and I think you’ll like what we have in store. Until then, ciao.

since tomorrows shinobus bday then maybe a scenario or sth how he and his friends would celebrate it...? if ur too busy then its ok too. its always fun to read your matchups and other posts, theyre really good! i actually feel like if you would make a personality quiz for enstars charas it would be the most accurate quiz ever :0 have a nice day @all mods!
Wow I hadto whip something up so fast ! birthday requests are so cute, but they have tobe written as soon as I see the request asdfg it was fun though !! I includedthe transfer student as the 2nd person POV and i changed it a bit from shinobu celebrating his birthday to shinobu’s friends making sure he celebrates his birthday~ but as you specifiedfriends I kept it friendly~ I love writing platonic stuff too !!! and thank youso much for the nice words, they mean a lot ♥ ♥ - mod mademoiselle
beware, for i accidentally wrote 4000+ words of nonsense, including Ryuseitai silliness, sashimi, a shameless Naruto ripoff, a lot of “de gozaru”, heartwarming friendships and cake. (especially cake)
To be fair, you didn’t really know why you’d agreed to this, but Chiaki’s eyes weretwinkling happily, so maybe it was worth it in the end… You were currentlycrouching on the ground, hiding behind thick bushes near the school’s gymnasium.Tetora was periodically making sure no one was looking your way, while Kanatawas just humming faintly. You and Midori shared a knowing glance. You faintlyfelt this impromptu “emergency meeting” was going to turn out weird, andjudging from how tired Midori already looked, he felt the same.
“Alright, looks like the field is clear… !” You and Tetora quickly shushed the boisterousRyuseitai leader, worried he’d attract attention on you. He did seemintent on wanting to hide, after all. He seemingly took the hint, as hecontinued slightly less loudly than before. “I had to reunite my brave fellow Ryuseitai members again for avery special occasion ! Sorry if you had something to do today.” Chiaki laughedembarrassedly, stroking the back of his neck. Midori just shrugged, obviouslynot pleased by this sudden outcome.
“it’s‘fine’, it’s for a ‘special occasion’ after all…” You nodded at Kanata’s words, even though you were getting a bit confused. Did they already know why Chiakiwas suddenly fired up ? Well, it wasn’t like he needed something big to get allexcited, though. Tetora probably sensed your confusion, as he sent a boyishgrin your way.
“I guess noone told you, but it’s Sengoku’s birthday soon !” Oh. That certainly explainedwhy he wasn’t there with you.
“And by‘soon’, he means tomorrow”, Midori added with a sigh. That wasn’t evensurprising to you. Chiaki’s pretty bad at planning things through, after all.
“So, what’sthe plan ? Did you guys want to do something in particular ?” They all noddedto your question, although Chiaki was the one to engage in a lengthy (anduseless) speech again.
“Of course! What allies of justice wouldn’t celebrate their dear comrade’s birthday ?There’s nothing like a powerful symbol of friendship to revive everyone’sburning spirits ! A friendship forged in fire such as ours deserves to be—“Chiaki kept getting excited in the background, but your focus shifted on Kanatainstead.
“chiakisaid he wanted to hold a ‘surprise birthday party’ for him…” That actuallysounded like a reasonable plan. You turned to look at Midori and Tetora, feeling a bit giddy at the thought of being part of a surprise party for one ofyour friend’s birthday.
“That’s agreat idea ! Did you start planning it already ?” Tetora just grimaced as ananswer, while Midori looked pointedly to the ground. … Why did you have a badfeeling about this ?
“Uh,actually, we wanted to ask your help about that. I mean, we don’t really knowhow to do that… Maybe you can help ?” Tetora suggested, fiddling with histhumbs.
“I don’twant to be alone with him. If youcould help…” Midori never finished his sentence, but you could see all hissuffering and desperation in his eyes. You briefly wondered if Chiaki reallywas that terrible… Then again, he was still talking to himself while no onepaid attention. You dutifully waited until he was done with his little speech, already thinking about how you should prepare the birthday party.
“Alright, Iguess we’re going to need to work in teams. Since it’s tomorrow, we don’t havethat much time, right ?” They nodded with varying degrees of enthusiasm. Midoristill got closer to you to whisper in your ear.
“I don’twant to be with Leader…” You laughed awkwardly as Chiaki looked at the two ofyou with a big smile, as oblivious as ever.
“Uh, I’lldo my best so that you’re not together.” You added a bit louder, for everyoneto hear : “Okay, we’re going to need, um…” Their suggestions were pretty quick.
“A cake !” “ ‘gifts’…”“People, I guess… ?” Well, they weren’t wrong.
“We’ll seeabout that after we’ve found where to hold the party, okay ? Does anyone knowwhere we could do that ? Maybe at someone’s place ?” Chiaki immediately put ahand on Midori’s shoulder, and you distinctly heard him groan.
“Takamine-kunlives close to the school, what a perfect coincidence—“
“Pleasedon’t let him come to my house”, Midori immediately cut him off, not even botheringto lower his voice. Chiaki just laughed at his comment, patting his shoulderwith so much force it was probably going to leave a bruise.
“How aboutjust holding the party in an empty classroom ? Wouldn’t it be better, since wedon’t have to go to someone’s house ?” Tetora suggested, throwing a hesitantlook your way. He seemed relieved when you nodded.
“Yes, let’sjust do that. It’s simpler for everyone that way. Alright, we need people tofind, um… Shinobu’s friends ?” You stopped a moment. Did he even have friends ? You quickly brushed thethought away, as everyone was listening intently to you. “And also a cake, anda gift, as you suggested.” Phew. So far so good. Everyone was nodding eagerly.
“I can takecare of the food !” Tetora was bouncing happily next to you, but you were quickto shake your head.
“Literally anyonebut you.” He hanged his head dejectedly, mumbling about how he greatlyimproved his cooking skills recently.
“Well, Ican go and find a gift for Sengoku-kun !” Chiaki suggested, and you noddedafter a moment’s reflexion. It didn’t seem like he’d break anything or cause anaccident, so you were fine with it.
“Alright,we trust you with the gift then ! Do you need someone to come with you ?” Youweren’t even done with your question when Chiaki turned to Midori, giving himhis brightest smile. Midori’s eyes were throwing daggers at him.
“No way.I’m staying here… it’s less troublesome this way…” You nodded again, lost in your thoughts. It was going to be hard to get Midori to move…
“i willmake the ‘decorations’…. an ‘empty classroom’ is too ‘bare’…” Kanata washumming happily again, already looking in his bag for fabrics and a sewing kit.You just looked at him confusedly before getting a hang of yourself.
“Oh, um, ifyou want, yeah. That’s a good idea !”
Midori waslooking at Kanata with bright eyes, especially when he got a paper covered insea animals’ drawings from his bag. “Kanata-senpai, are you going to sew these…?”
He justnodded in response, smiling faintly to his junior. “you can ‘watch’ if youwant…”
Midorididn’t really need more to throw an imploring look your way .“Can I stay withKanata-senpai… ? His plushies really heal me…” Well, you didn’t really have achoice, did you.
“Yeah, ofcourse. So the two of you will work on decorations. What about you, Tetora ?”He was still pouting from before but quickly forgot it as you looked his way.
“Since youwon’t let me cook, I guess I’m going with Leader to find a gift ! I’m friendswith Sengoku so I might find something he likes.”
“It’s notthat I won’t let you cook, it’s just that…” Although you were quick to answer, you couldn’t bring yourself to tell him you wouldn’t ever let him alone in akitchen for the rest of his life under threat of putting everyone in thesurroundings in danger. Fortunately, Chiaki patted your shoulder vigorously, offering you an easy way out.
“What aboutyou ?” he asked. Now that you thought about it, there was still the cake to buyor make from scratch, but finding Sengoku’s other friends seemed even moreimportant. Nothing would make him happier than celebrating with his friends, right ?
“I’m goingto tell his other friends about this ! Let’s meet up once everyone is done, alright ?” You quickly checked the time before getting up. Classes had stoppednot so long ago, so you still had most of the afternoon.
“Let’s dothis ! Good luck, everyone… ✰” And with those words of wisdom from Chiaki, you and the boys each wenton your way.
As you wandered down the school’s hallways, you wonderedif you’d ever seen Sengoku hanging out with someone other than the Ryuseitaimembers. You were about to head to his club, the Ninja Association, when yousuddenly remembered he was the only member in it. Dammit. Fortunately, hewas also a part of the broadcasting committee, which you decided was a goodplace to start. Only Makoto and Nazuna were inside the school radio’s studio, which was definitely a good thing.
“Oh, that’s you. Did you have business with us ?”Nazuna smiled at you amicably and invited you to sit with them, as Makoto evengot some tea ready for you. You didn’t even have time to refuse : there was asteaming hot cup right in front of you and Makoto looked very pleased withhimself. You quickly explained the whole surprise birthday party thing, mentioning that you’d like to invite Shinobu’s other friends too.
“I see, that’s really kind of you ! Good kid.” Nazunagrinned and started petting your head reflexively.
“Sengoku-kun and I are not exactly the closestfriends, but he’s a nice kid ! I’ll come tomorrow, if you don’t mind me… ?”Makoto asked, visibly relieved when you shook your head.
“It’d be nice if the two of you could come ! I’m surehe’d be happy”, you answered, looking at the two of them. They shared a glance, then smiled at you.
“No problem,I’m coming too ! It’s the job of a senpai to make his cute kouhai happy, afterall~” You smiled in your turn, feeling a bit relieved. It wasn’t going to be ashard as you thought, actually…
“Oh, by the way, do you know if he’s especially closeto anyone ? Maybe someone in his class ?” Makoto shrugged at your question, whileNazuna looked deep in thought.
“Well, I can tell the kids from his class about theparty. Makoto-chin will help me too, right ?” Makoto nodded happily, which madeNazuna grin again. “Don’t worry about that, I’ll tell everyone he knows ! Iguess you must be busy with other stuff you need to prepare, after all.Nii-chan will do that for you~” You could only thank them and hastily drink thetea Makoto poured for you, before you quickly went to the cafeteria’s kitchens. There was still the matter of the cake left, and it certainly wasn’t going tobake itself.
Honestly, you didn’t know what you were expecting tofind in the kitchens, but it was certainly not Souma cutting fresh fish. Thesmell had invaded the entire room, and you struggled to keep concentrating onthe flour you were trying to measure.
“What are you doing exactly, Souma ?” You eventually gave in to curiosity and turned your head his way, all while whisking theingredients in a bowl. He did the same, a little smile on his lips.
“I thought I would prepare fresh sashimi forHasumi-dono and Kiryu-dono. They have been working very hard for my sake lately.Fresh fish is quite delicious, and is excellent for your body too. Do you wantto try some ?” He handed a piece of raw fish your way, and you shook your headas politely as you could.
“I’m good, don’t worry. Besides, I’m cooking too.” Henodded, taking a break in his own cooking to come and look at you for a moment.
“If that isn’t too rude, may I ask what you are bakingthis cake for ?” You smiled at his question, adding melted chocolate to thedough.
“It’s for Shinobu’s birthday. We’re having a surpriseparty for him tomorrow.” You suddenly thought he might want to be invited too,and quickly added “You can come too, if you want.”
Souma was looking at you mixing the ingredientstogether, seemingly deep-in-thought. “I am ashamed I didn’t know about thisearlier. I would be delighted to join you on your celebration. Let me preparesomething as a gift for him.” You happily grinned, glad you found one morefriend of Shinobu’s.
“Do you get along with him ?” Souma nodded, back tocutting his sashimi.
“He is a promising ‘aidoru’. He even taught me theninja run. I am forever grateful to him.” You tried to picture the ever-dignifiedSouma running like Shinobu often does and couldn’t stifle a little laugh. Thefishy smell quickly brought you back to Earth though.
“By the way, what are you preparing for tomorrow ?”
Souma’s answer was as quick as his knife on the board.“Sashimi, obviously.”
Once the cake (and sashimi) were taken care of, youwent back to the school’s main building to join with everyone else. It wasalready getting pretty late, and you still didn’t have news from the otherboys. You were checking your phone to see if no one tried to call you while youwere busy when you heard someone running your way.
“Ah, here you are ! I’ve been looking for you, actually.” You quickly looked up : it was Yuta, not even out of breath. Youwere slightly surprised to see him running in the hallways, as he seemed moreprone to respect rules than his brother, but as he got closer you noticed helooked unusually excited.
“A senpai from the broadcasting committee told me youwere planning a surprise birthday party for Shinobu-kun, so I came to let youknow I’m coming too.” You found yourself smiling. The “guests” part of the planwas going great, so far !
“That’s good ! You’re friends, aren’t you ?” Now thatyou thought about it, you did often see them hanging out with each other. Yutahappily nodded, and you added : “Then I think he’d love to see you there too !Thanks for coming, Yuta.” He fidgeted a bit when you smiled to him, looking bothhappy and embarrassed.
“I can also tell Sora-kun and Mitsuru-kun from ourclass to come, since they’re good friends with Shinobu-kun too. Besides, Ialready bought a gift for him, so I’ll be giving it to him there.” You wereabout to answer when your phone rang, and you quickly took the call. Tetora’spanicked voice was so loud you had to put the phone away from your ear a bit.
“We’rehaving trouble~ ! I made the mistake to bring Leader in the DVD aisle and nowhe won’t move from the tokusatsu section ! What should I doooo~ ?! ” Yeah, you figured these two would mean trouble at some point.
“Tetora, did you find a gift yet ?” You could barelyhear him, as Chiaki was blabbering happily in the background.
“Uh,actually, I also wanted to ask if you had an idea, because Leader’s really sucks.”Dammit. An idea suddenly came to mind and you put thephone away to ask Yuta :
“If you don’t mind telling me, what did you buy forShinobu ? You mentioned buying a gift for him, didn’t you ?” He nodded, lookinga bit confused at how Tetora was still shouting in the phone.
“Yeah, I bought him a keychain of his favoritecharacter from that famous ninja anime he likes.” Great. You smiled at him tothank him and put the phone back to your ear, wincing when you realized howloud Tetora was really being.
“How about buying him a DVD ? Yuta just told me helikes this famous ninja anime.” Tetora’s answer was pretty quick.
“Ah, yeah, I liked it too as a kid ! Yeah, they havethe latest volume here. It even comes with a rare poster, apparently… Do youthink he’d like that ?”
“I’m pretty sure he’s gonna love it.” You and Yutashared a grin. So far, so good.
Everyone seemed pretty pleased at the recentdevelopment of events. Thanks to Makoto’s help, Mao had agreed to come too andeven managed to secure a classroom for the party. He somehow was Shinobu’s idolafter all, so everyone agreed he’d be happy to see him there. The cake wassitting in the cafeteria’s fridge, Chiaki and Tetora had brought back the giftin cute wrapping, Nazuna had bought little party hats and party crackers, andKanata made a lot of sea animal plushies, which everyone was kind of puzzledabout. Oh well. As long as he had fun. Yuta, Sora and Mitsuru even made a cutebanner, which read “Happy Birthday Sengoku-kun”. Really, everything was readyfor the D-day.
The next day finally came, but went by at an agonizinglyslow pace. So naturally you found yourself being pretty excited once the bellrang. Souma and Makoto gave you a little smile as you got up, taking your bagwith you and hurrying to the classroom Mao had reserved for the party. You weresurprised to find Tetora and Midori already there, busy plastering Ryuseitaiposters on the walls. When Tetora saw you, he waved so enthusiastically healmost fell from the chair he’d climbed on.
“ ‘Sup ! We’re finishing up the deco ! It looks nice,right ?”
“Yeah, you could say that ? Was that Chiaki’s idea ?”You were fairly sure he was the one to come up with it, but you still asked, hoping for a miracle.
“Yep ! He said it would brighten things up a bit !”Right. Someone had also put cute little sea animals plushies here and there, making you suspect a certain sea-loving senpai was also somewhere in the room.
“Is Kanata here too ?” you asked with a smile, pickingup a cute octopus plushie. Midori turned to nod faintly, even smiling a bit.
“He’s just over there.” And indeed, Kanata came backfrom under a desk, hair a bit disheveled and holding several more plushies, including one covered in wrapping.
“Hello everyone~” When Yuta entered the room, alongwith Sora and Mitsuru, you smiled and waved at them.
“We brought candy !” Mitsuru happily exclaimed, whileSora was busy emptying a bag full of candy on a desk. Yuta was already busyhanging their hand-made banner with Midori and Tetora’s help.
“Hey~ Is everything going well ?” Mao came in the roomin his turn, Makoto hot on his trails. You nodded, busy helping Kanata findingthe best place to put his plushies.
“Yeah, we’ve got the gift, the, uh… plushies, andSouma went to the kitchens to get the cake and the… uh, the sashimi.”
“Sashimi ?” Makoto laughed, shaking his head. “Hey,that’s not surprising at all actually ! As expected from Kanzaki-kun !” SaidKanzaki-kun promptly came as well, holding a plate in each of his hands. Nazunawas with him and opened the door as well as he could, considering he wascarrying a bunch of cans of juice and soda.
“Hi guys ! I suddenly thought we were going to bethirsty, so I ran to the vending machine and got juice for everyone.” Hegrinned as Mitsuru rushed to jump on him, threatening to make him drop all thecans.
“Nii-chan came too ! Waah, this is like a real party !”Mitsuru shouted, as Nazuna was trying to put the cans on a desk withoutdropping either them or Mitsuru. Souma was busy cutting the cake with a knifehe thoughtfully got from the kitchen, as Midori was watching over his shoulder, shooting you a little smile.
“You baked it, right… ? I didn’t know you could cook, senpai…♪” You justsmiled proudly at him, trying your best to look cool. Of course, he didn’t knowyou struggled and worried that you might have ruined the entire thing becauseyou put too much milk, but it seemed to have turned out pretty good. Andtasty-looking, judging by the expression on everyone’s face. You couldpractically hear stomachs growling already.
“Hey, the party’sway better than I thought it would be !” Tetora was smiling widely as Kanatawas putting a party hat on his head, and you couldn’t help but find his enthusiasmcontagious. It did feel pretty nice. Maybe because there was cake. Yeah, onsecond thought, cake seemed to make everything better. Your thoughts quicklycame back to the party, though, and especially its missing organizer.
“By the way, where’s Chiaki ?” you asked, looking at everyone assembled in the room. He didn’tseem to be there… Kanata beamed at you, waving a lobster’s plushie right infront of your face. It did strangely seem to evoke Chiaki’s image to your mind.
“he went to get‘shinobu’… they should be ‘back’ soon…” You were about to answer when you heard Ryuseitai leader’s boisterous voice in the hallway, and everyonequickly hid wherever they could. You felt a hand grip your sleeve and tug it,making you hide under a desk. The culprit seemed to be Mao, who sent a grinyour way before to put his index in front of his lips in a meaningful gesture. The room was now eerily quiet, even though you could feel everyone’sexcitement. The atmosphere was almost electric.
“… and I don’tmean to make you afraid, but there’s something extremely important waiting for you in this room !” Yep, that wasChiaki’s voice alright, and you were pretty sure he was speaking extra loudlyto make sure everyone heard. You saw Midori roll his eyes, hiding under thedesk next to yours, and you stifled a laugh. Mao shushed you, but you could seethe corners of his lips tugging into a smile too.
“I-Is that so ?Did I perhaps do something wrong de gozaru ?” Oh no, poor Shinobu was gettinganxious…
“I can’t tellyou, you have to open that door by yourself.” Chiaki’s voice sounded graverthan usual, and everyone was holding their breaths. You were getting ready toget out of under that desk yourself, making sure your legs weren’t numb. You werestuck in a pretty weird position, after all.
“I-It is as yousay, Leader-dono… I should be a proud man and face every danger de gozaru !”The door suddenly opened, revealing a livid Shinobu, and you suddenly felt Maodragging you upwards again. You think you accidentally stepped on his foot, butit didn’t really matter since all the party crackers in the room were beingpopped and everyone suddenly started shouting.
“Happy birthdayShinobu !” His eyes (well, more like the only eye you could see) fell on thebanner, and he stayed silent for a moment, eyes (eye ?) wide and mouth hangingopen. It took Chiaki violently clasping his shoulder (and probably leaving abruise, again) for him to start remembering how to talk.
“Everyone…” Heabruptly stopped, sniffling loudly and looking away. Chiaki didn’t really needmore to lock him in a bear hug, laughing brightly.
“Don’t cry,Sengoku ! Laugh with us, just like me… ✰” Surprisingly, Tetora rushed to jointhe group hug, then Kanata, and even a not-so-reluctant Midori. The others werequick to join them, and Nazuna even took your hand with a smile.
“Aren’t you theone who made all that possible ? Come on, you deserve it too ♪” Before you knewit, you were stuck in an ocean of arms, hugging whoever was in front of youtight and laughing along with everyone else, as Shinobu’s face peeked fromunder Chiaki’s form.
“Thank you somuch, everyone…”
The party wasas successful as an improvised birthday party could have been, everyone loving thecake and showering Shinobu in affection. He got, as planned, a keychain fromYuta, the DVD set from everyone and a cute frog plushie from Kanata. Once thecandy and soda stock had been thoroughly depleted and the sugar rush started tokick in, Shinobu even gave ninja running lessons to enthusiastic Tetora andMitsuru, and a not-so-willing Midori. They even sang “happy birthday” in unisonas loud as they could, and obviously Keito came to scold everyone for making aruckus. Eventually, it was time to call it a day and everyone helped clean up the room.As you were slowly going out of the school, with the boys still laughingloudly, you found yourself with the Ryuseitai members, surrounding a veryhappy-looking Shinobu.
“Really, youall have my sincere thanks… ! I truly enjoyed myself, de gozaru… ♪” Chiaki pathis shoulder again, probably leaving even more bruises in his wake, as Kanatasmiled happily.
“it’s ‘nothing’,really… we’re ‘glad’ we did it too…” Chiaki nodded firmly at Kanata’s words, now clasping Midori’s shoulder for some reason. Midori obviously wasn’t pleasedwith this.
“He’s right !It’s what friends do for each other, you know !”
You saw Shinobu’seye widen a bit, before he shyly murmured : “Friends…”
Tetora grinnedin response, throwing an arm around the self-proclaimed ninja’s shoulders. “Yup,that’s right ! Friends ! Right, Midori-kun ?”
Now that Chiakihad removed his hand from Midori, he looked a lot happier and even gracedeveryone with a little smile. “Right.”
Shinobu didn’tanswer at first, instead looking down at his feet, smiling bashfully. Hischeeks were getting pinker and pinker with each passing second, and youexchanged a smile with Chiaki. This whole birthday party plan seemed to be ahuge success, and Shinobu was quick to confirm it by himself, wiping a straytear from under his eye.
“Right now, I’mthe happiest ninja on this Earth, de gozaru… ♪”

Total Eclipse of the Heart -Chapter 1
“Well... this is a nice change in scenery.” You sighed quietly in a mocking, falsely-cheerful tone, halfheartedly stumbling into the shed you were being, rather forcefully, led into. Despite the fake happiness you'd attempted to inject into your voice at the sight of the shed, your face mirrored just how impressed you really were with your current predicament.
You weren’t very impressed at all.
“This is a prison cell.” A gravelly voice deadpanned behind you, the sound harsh on your ears that had heard too much of that voice already. Already you found yourself cringing away slightly upon hearing your captor, turning around with an icy expression frozen in your eyes, while plastering on a fake, sickly-sweet smile, being sure to make it as sarcastic as you possibly could.
“Oh, really? I never noticed, it just looks like a trash pile to me,” You replied, ignoring the deadly glower you’d received a hundred times already within the half an hour you’d known the stupidly tall skeleton who now held you as his prisoner, “The only upside to this all is that it’s about 2 degrees warmer in here than outside.” You mumbled to yourself, ignoring the urge to rub your hands over your forearms in an attempt to gather the slightest bit of warmth in the icy town you’d found yourself in, knowing it was impossible with your hands bound as they were. Heavy metal cuffs held your wrists tightly together crudely, parts of the metal bent and dented, as if someone had thrown them against a brick wall, and the wall had won.
“You should be grateful, cretin,” The skeleton growled, picking you up by the back of your shirt collar, dragging you unceremoniously across the dusty concrete floor with little effort to free yourself from you, before dropping you into the corner, a ratty blanket and pillow barely breaking your fall, “I could have killed you the moment I saw you, taken your soul. You are, after all, the last soul needed to break the barrier. Someone as valuable as you are, yet I found it within me to show you some respect, allow you to retain just a bare sliver of dignity.” He said, looming over you threateningly with a strange expression, as if expecting you to get on your hands and knees and thank him for being so decent as to not kill you. In your current state, any more movement felt pretty impossible. Your body had certainly seen better days, and while you were sure that your captor would love for you to bow down to him and feed to his already over-inflated ego, you feared that your body would fall apart at any more sudden movements. Or just... movement in general.
Falling to your untimely death, while not actually causing death, had certainly left a fair share of bad, and horrifically painful injuries. You were fairly certain you’d broken your ankle, and your right arm had barely any feeling in it, apart from an oddly intense yet dull pain that you’d begun to just ignore. Your face had been burned both by fire and by the cold sting of ice as you laid in the snow outside of that crazed goat lady’s home. You also hadn’t eaten or had any water for something like two days, though keeping track of time underground with no sense of day or night made it a little tricky to know for sure. No matter how long had passed, you were beyond tired, and beyond the reasonable definition of weak.
You were... Ultra-Weak. Likely the reason that you’d been found by the edgy-ass skeleton while you laid, half conscious, in the snow, clothes both soaked through and with still-smoking burns strewn across them.
“So why exactly didn’t you kill me, again?” You questioned after a moment of shifting, by now just sick of this charade, wanting it to be over if that was how this was gonna go down. The skeleton seemed to falter at that, before narrowing his eyes and straightening up, puffing out his chest slightly as he glared down at you.
“Just because we need your soul doesn’t mean I have no sense of chivalry,” Wow, really? You could sure argue against that, “You were lying there in the snow, with absolutely no chance of fighting back! It would have been less than sporting.”
“...You make it sound like you're gonna try nurture me back to health so you can kill me with a slightly clearer conscience.” You stated with a slight roll of the eyes, struggling to pull the barely held together blanket over you without ripping it, already fraying the ends you were holding thanks to your handling of it.
“Precisely!” He replied, oblivious to your struggle and how you froze up in slight surprise at his honesty... Not that it put you much at ease about anything.
“You’re more of a psychopath than I first thought. Congrats, you managed to surprised me.” You sighed after regaining the composure you'd lost for a moment, shuffling back into the corner and drawing your knees up to your chest, trying to maneuver yourself so you didn’t disturb your injuries too much. At this point, knowing that you were now just up for slaughter once you healed up just sort of made your pretty dreary outlook on this situation feel horribly worse. What was the point of getting better if it just lead to your death? It was sort of a sucky end-of-the-line, when you thought about it. Murder, and you'd barely be able to stop it. What if he just killed you in your sleep or some creepy-ass shit like that?
Well fuck, guess who's not gonna be able to sleep tonight. Or ever again. Your mind was forcing you into thinkingof all the twisted ways this skeleton could possibly kill you, mind straying to thoughts of the fire magic that Toriel had possessed when fighting you.
The Goat woman you had met in The Ruins, as the place was so aptly names, seemed to have gone insane over time, refusing to acknowledge any other beings that dared to move near you, calling you names like ‘Chara’ and ‘Asriel’, sometimes acting cheery, happily cooking away in her run-down kitchen, other times bawling her eyes out at a mere mention of something as trivial as snails (which had accidentally come up while you were browsing her bookshelf, there being a rather large array of snail-related books). But other times, she just got angry. Like when you decided it was definitely time for you to start getting a move on in finding your way outta the hellhole you’d found yourself in. The fire that had eaten away at parts of the flesh on your face like burning tongues, starved of nutrition for as long as they could remember, still felt as if it was burning on your face, and many a time had you startled after a moment where the bright, sparking pain of the fire registered in your mind, you doing your best to get rid of it before remembering that it was just a reminder.
After a run in like that, with someone far less insane, or so it seemed, who’d likely have more control than someone like her...boy you did not want to be on the wrong side of him until you really had to be. And sleep also just sounded like a bad idea in general here. You didn't wanna get shivved in your sleep.
Seeing you curl up, your body leaning onto one of the cold, metal poles that made up a crude, and somewhat insulting ‘cage’ with bars meters apart, the skeleton seemed to remember something, making a motion that looked like blinking , despite his being a skeleton, before turning to one of the many cabinets that haphazardly found themselves across different parts of the room.
As you looked around the shed, really, for the first time, you began to realise just how scary this guy might be,  even without thinking about magic, considering the amount of weapons and torture devices that sprawled across the walls. Knives, swords, strange twisting metal contraptions that you couldn’t begin to try identify, lots more stabby things, stuff that looked like crude, medieval tasers, or something of the sort, the list of strange devices seemed to have no end as you glanced around, feeling more dread enter you as you sighed, curling up into yourself as you winced at the twang of pain it caused you, ignoring the musky smell that had been invading your senses. As the slight adrenaline rush you’d felt while being dragged here finally seemed to wear off, the hunger, thirst and tiredness was finally truly consuming you, and the effort of keeping your eyes open was getting to be a bit much, no matter the terrifying thoughts running through your mind. Humans did need sleep, maybe just closing your eyes for a minute while your captor had his back turned would be the only time you could rest for a while. You had to take the chance, didn't you?
As you let them drift closed, thoughts of the edgy bitch that had caught you dulled just slightly and you felt your shoulders and the muscles in your back relax enough for you to calm into a slight doze. Sadly, Mr Edgy Bitch himself quickly interrupted the moment of reprieve as you felt a boney hand forcefully seized hold of your chin, startling you awake enough to try swat them away, no matter the pain it caused your injured arm, or how useless it was with your hands in chains. Despite your efforts, you quickly found your hands completely immobile and held firmly before you by an unknown source, unable to move no matter how you struggled. Your hands and arms glowed slightly, a reddish colour engulfing your limbs and holding them like a vice. Confusion seemed to be a worthwhile distraction for the skeleton as something was swiftly clipped around your neck before you could struggle any further against him. As you spotted the chain hanging before you in the skeleton’s grasp when he moved away, you realised with embarrassment that it was some sort of collar.
Why.
You felt your hands fall limply into your lap as they were released from the near invisible grip, holding in a pained noise as your injured arm came in contact with your knee, opting to instead suck in a sharp breath in an attempt to dull the pain. The skeleton showed about as much care as you expected, tugging the chain hard, making you topple slightly as he tied the chain around the pole you were leaning against. You watched in slight interest, only because you were unsure as to how it would stay there when he’d merely tied it as if he were tying a shoelace
The burgundy red coloured aura that emitted from his hand, surrounding the chain, was certainly unexpected, even if it was the same colour as what had held you still mere moments ago. What was even more surprising, however, was the sharp electric shock you received as the coloured current travelled quickly into your collar from the metal, making you yell out from the pain that seemed to travel through your entire body, tears quickly appearing in your eyes as you screamed.
It felt like far more time had passed than a few seconds, but that’s all it had been before the skeleton moved away from the pole, the electricity running through you leaving quickly, leaving you not only exhausted and in a higher amount of pain than before, but feeling barely coherent, like you were about to pass out.
“There, now that should stay in place, and unless I do it myself, both the chain and collar are unable to be removed,” The skeleton said triumphantly, as if this feat were something to be celebrated, “Now, you dim-witted imbecile...” You barely had the consciousness to look up when you were referred to, eyes glassy as tears poured down your face, more unconsciously than anything. You were having trouble stringing together even the most simple of thoughts, but you were able to register confusion, at least, on the stupid skeleton’s skull.
“The hell is wrong with you? It was barely a shock at all! You should have been more prepared.” Wow, you sure hoped this guy wasn't some sort of personal motivator for some poor soul. The grating voice of the skeleton was loud enough to penetrate your scrambled mind as you squinted up at him. You felt a vague sense of anger run through you, but not enough to truly be able to act on it in your state. You managed a faint growl of annoyance, trying to sit up, but failed, slumping against the pylon beside you, resorting to just flipping the bird at the asshole.
Seeming amused, if anything, at your attempt at retaliation, the skeleton kneeled down in front of you. You felt your adrenalin spike for a moment. After that crazy-ass display of his power, you certainly didn't feel like being withinclose proximity with this guy.
“Do you fear me?” He asked, grabbing your collar tightly and pulling your face closer toward him, the only thing you felt able to see properly were his glowing red eye-lights, doing nothing to shine any light within the seeming void that was the inside of his skull.
“Excuse me?” You faltered, uncertain why he would ask something like that, trying to weakly struggle out of his grip.
“Do you fear me?” He asked once more, far more forcefully than before. His grip on your collar tightened, balling the fabric of your shirt up with it and forcing you ever closer to his freakish features.
You shook your head slowly, trying to keep your expression even as you watched him, mind still hazy enough for everything to feel somewhat dream like. Probably why you were acting so calm at the moment.
The look of shock, then of pure rage, certainly sent an icy stab of apprehension through your heart, that you couldn’t deny. But fearing him? No, not yet. You were sure that this creature wasn’t as horrible as he tried to be, surely. Even as you thought that, you considered that maybe you were being a little too optimistic. After all, he had electrocuted you (said electric shock probably fried your brain a bit more than you thought if you were looking at this guy in any sort of positive light), and it sure seemed you weren’t gonna last long in this world you’d fallen into with this skeleton dead-set on murdering you once it was ‘chivalrous’ to do so.
“No?” He questioned with a growl after a moment of seeing if you'd change your mind, but when you didn't, he seemed to become even more enraged. He stood up without warning, throwing you uncaringly back to the floor, you feeling the back of your head come in contact with the hard metal pole behind you as he did. Groaning out in pain, you could feel your head throbbing, wanting to rub it to ease the pain, but not able to with your hands in chains.
The skeleton stormed away a few steps, the uneven lighting in the room making his skeletal figures seem even more sinister than before, casting dark shadows across his face.
“No is not an answer, you ridiculous, pathetic twit. You will fear me, no matter what it takes. The Great and Terrible Papyrus doesn’t hold such a prestigious title for nothing.”
You watched him as he stood in the middle of the room for a moment, your breathing slightly more breathy than usual as you attempted to say something in return, but nothing came out. As silence well and truly filled the room, the skeleton, or Papyrus, as you now knew he was called, huffed angrily, his dark red boots stomping against the hard, cold ground as he stormed his way out of the shed, slamming the door noisily behind him and startling you. The sound rattled the shed noisily with the force of him closing it as hard as he had, and you found yourself questioning the structural integrity of the prison you now found yourself in.
You sighed, at least slightly relieved that the creature wasn’t in the same room as you. Your breath clouded before you, just proving how cold it was in the hellhole you’d fell into. The snow from outside had managed to slip under the barely attached shed door, and you just hoped that when it melted, you wouldn’t find yourself in a puddle of melted ice. With how steeply the concrete floor tilted down to your side, you didn’t doubt that you would indeed find yourself in that predicament.
You glared daggers at the door, slumping before curling up into yourself to provide what warmth you could in your thin, not-made-for-winter clothes.
In that moment, shivering and in pain, simply awaiting the next move of your captor, you knew you had to escape. Escape the shed. Escape this town. Escape the Underground. Even if the skeleton had to go down first.
