The End of the War !!
My codywan piece I did for New Beginnings by @thecodywanzine. Thank you for all the hard work!
(Actually, this was a re-drawing of a piece I did two years ago. I decided to draw this cuz I thought the end of the war is the beginning of their new days.)

Fic Writer 20 Questions
Thanks to @merlyn-bane for tagging me! <3
1.) How many works do you have on ao3
Currently 56!
2.) What's your ao3 word count?
183,482
3.) What fandoms do you write for?
At this moment, it's Star Wars all day every day. Specifically into the prequel era and Star Wars Rebels related stuff.
4.) What are your top five fics by kudos?
Twenty-Two - an Enjoltaire fic I wrote when I was 20 so let's not talk about that
it's a gift to be truly known - skybridger fic, I'm thrilled to see it this high :')
held like a dream - codywan, interesting it's done better than the others
Lost in the Supermarket - another enjoltaire from the wee age of 20, don't look at me
beholder - codywan, I do really really love this one
5.) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, mostly! I don't always because it gets mixed up with my anxiety and I feel overwhelmed and pressured. So I live by a policy of "respond if I am feeling it, if not nbd."
6.) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I genuinely can't think of anything that has an angsty ending. Angsty middles, sure, but I'm a happy ender. I guess it's like poetry, it rhymes (shatterpoint lineage fic) is a little bittersweet?
7.) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Hard to choose? I've written some pretty sappy fluff. I've decided on frame the halves, call them a whole (codywan) because you get a good, way pre-O66 fix it that means no one I like died PLUS force sensitive clones! :)
8.) Do you get hate on fics?
I don't believe I ever have!
9.) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Haha yes. It's generally queer and pretty tame in terms of kink.
10.) Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Nope, never have.
11.) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so! My fics are pretty mid-tier at their highest popularity so I don't think anyone really cares to lol
12.) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes and I'm still so, so flattered and thrilled by it. :''') I believe I had one (or even two???) old Les Mis fic translated before, but I don't see it linked on ao3. And then there's this absolute beauty:
Comme de la poésie, ça rime
13.) Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Not technically, but Haley and I have a draft we lovingly refer to as only fan-akin, doc titled (by Haley, credit where due) "the west wing but if sam married the hooker and became president instead of dropping that storyline and leaving after s3"
14.) What's your all time favorite ship?
Maybe probably Billy/Teddy from Young Avengers. They're my boys!!!
15.) What's a WIP you'd like to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Baby girl, I have WIPs you don't even know. I wish I could write the jedi temple epic I wanted to, but my thoughts and feelings have changed so much the whole concept has collapsed and what I have is too messy to use elsewhere. And then there's the courferre soulmate fic I dearly meant to finish and just never will since the interest dried up.
16.) What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue. That's the easiest part for me to write.
17.) What are your writing weaknesses?
Uh well first of all, actually getting myself to write is a big fucking challenge of mine. But really, the spacial stuff and descriptions kill me. Please know that if you ever read non-dialogue, non-thought parts that you like, it probably took me like 10 writing passes to get it just right. I live in a state of editing and reediting.
18.) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I just don't! I am willing to add in as much as I know or easy words-- like a bonjour or, if we're talking Star Wars, sprinkles of words like vode. But if someone is talking in sentences, I will straight up do "Sabine said something in Mando'a" or "Stop that, Sabine told him in Mando'a." Easier for me that trying to do bad translations.
19.) First fandom you wrote for?
Young Avengers!
20.) Favorite fic you've ever written?
This is ever changing. While I probably go back and read it's a gift to be truly known the most, I love a single slow desire for it being the best, biggest world building I've done. Plus it's f/f and I need more of that in my writing life
I think everyone ever has been tagged already, but if not! Tags for you: @afoundling @happybean17 @tired-bshocked @goddammitjim

From the same randomizer as the ballroom dancing ficlet, I was inspired to make an Old Guard codywan AU with these prompts! See below (and also posting it on AO3)
Ovens these days are such untrustworthy things. It takes them fifteen minutes of mixing ingredients to realise there isn't the tell tale hum of pre-heating, and Cody notices the dial got stuck halfway between fan oven and grill.
"Wouldn't get this with a clay oven," Obi-Wan sighs as Cody sets it properly and the fan clicks on. "There's either a fire going or there isn't."
"I think the neighbours might object," Cody says, but he tucks his hand on Obi-Wan's crossed arms as if he agrees: technology was supposed to be a marvel, a wonder, and now things just don't work properly.
When they met, the most advanced piece of equipment on the ship was one of the navigational devices, that measured water depth or current speed or something only three men on board the whaleship knew the workings of, until a struggle with one sperm whale in November of 1820 cut that down to two. He and Cody had slept in neighbouring bunks, swaying together across the waves, until the next whale finished the job and wrecked the whole ship. Drowning was not a death either of them wished to experience again.
They'd dreamed about each other before then, though, Cody on the docks of Kororāreka where he was born and Obi-Wan travelling through Indonesia at the time. He remembers seeing Cody's face swim up through the darkness of night, shirt loose and drifting around his collar and scar arcing around his eye, and waking up in a jolt, sweat gathering under his limbs and at the back of his neck, muscles twitching to move. He'd taken a southbound ship just before dawn, with a surety of purpose he couldn't remember having in quite some years.
It's hard to compare that propelling force back then to his earliest years—his first life, as he's sometimes thought of it. Obi-Wan can only think hazily: of England becoming England, of the invasion of Ireland, of dragging himself out of a muddy mass grave in what is now likely great green pasture. Qui-Gon had found him then, drawn by his own dreams and explaining everything in that calm, soft voice, his hair long and clean and straight, beard greying. Sleep had felt impossible afterwards, not just in the days that immediately followed, but for the next three decades at least, and the memories of that time in Qui-Gon's company are hazier than anything that had come before it.
He's happy to let them go, though. He's happy to fill his thoughts now with chocolate—what a luxury, even when you can't get the good stuff. Milk and sugar and cocoa, all beautiful and precious things that would have upturned his little Anglo-Norman tastebuds if it had come over to Europe any sooner than it did. Cody steals dark shards from the bar he's chopping and feeds them to Obi-Wan, letting them melt in his mouth for a second before laying the knife down and dipping in for a kiss.
"There'll be none left for the brownies," Obi-Wan protests, but they both know it's an incredibly weak argument. Cody hums and eats a piece of his own, scooping the rest into the batter with the flat of the knife.
"Remember Belgium?" Cody says, and Obi-Wan instantly recollects the rich and velvety texture of the chocolate there, steering carefully through Liège and Brussels and Antwerp just before the first world war. But then Cody huffs a laugh and elbows Obi-Wan in the side to say, "Ah, Benoît, tu étais très charmant."
"Va te faire, chéri," Obi-Wan smiles, and slides the baking pan over. Coping with bastardized and shifting names was something quickly learned once one's expected lifespan lengthened so considerably. He's gone by Osbert and Benedict, and William was quite popular for a substantial time; combinations thereof dissolving chronological and geographical barriers to become Obi, Ben, Wallam. Too many other Will's and Ben's on board the whaler meant he met Cody as Obi-Wan, and Obi-Wan met Cody as Cody.
And for all Obi-Wan knows, Cody has always been Cody. He's never spoken of any former names, and likes it well enough when Obi-Wan whispers it into the skin under his jaw, right where the stubble comes in, scratching on his lips.
The brownies go into the accursed oven and for a time they become distracted with the temptation of dragging fingertips through the leftover batter in the bowl, standing with hips leaning on the counter until they move to the couch, and then dwell under the same blanket as they wait. The egg timer clicks away back in the kitchen—Cody says he prefers the mechanical sound of it rather than relying on something digital. "The noise is how clocks should sound," he says, like a true citizen of the 19th century. Obi-Wan, having lived for about 500 years before clocks would deign to become a household joy, obliges him in this.
He still has dreams about Cody, like the old ones on his journey to the South Pacific, even though they've never parted since the whaler. In 1895, just after the earthquake in Ljubljana, he'd dreamt of Cody's face swimming up towards him again, surrounded by sea water, and had catapulted out of the frighteningly empty bed only to find him blithely wrestling with the kettle on the little woodstove. Obi-Wan hadn't been able to explain himself then, laughing off the adrenaline but clinging onto Cody's shoulder throughout the day. After 128 years to ponder it, though, he supposes it might have been because the only other dream he'd had of Qui-Gon since his own first death was right before his companion's final one.
Coincidence, of course, just the same as how Obi-Wan hasn't managed to return to England in 800 years. He’s been elsewhere, helping other people, doing his duty and staying under the radar. Changing his name and, less frequently, his appearance, and occasionally wondering whether he might be the only one on the entire planet in his particular predicament. Cody’s existence had disproved this last speculation, and oh, what a beautiful contradiction to join paths with.
The brownies smell heavenly when the egg timer rings its alarm, and taste heavenly as well, too hot and dotted with melting chocolate chunks. They each eat a piece right there, hovering over the pan and silent in shared bliss. The silence extends to a casual and performative deliberation over whether a second piece is really necessary, after which Obi-Wan cuts a square in half and realizes the oven is still on, and Cody starts laughing too much for Obi-Wan to feed the piece to him.
Later, they fall into bed together as they have done for two centuries now, and when Cody starts to softly snore, Obi-Wan stills to hear the Winchester Cathedral chime the late, moonlit hour.

20 Questions for fic writers
Tagged by @barry-j-blupjeans (thank you!!!)
tagging @sgrumby and anyone who wants to play!!
1. How many works do you have on A03?
132
2. What's your total A03 word count?
568,150! half a million!!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Mainly TAZ Balance and Star Wars (Prequels/TCW era, mostly), but I've written a fair amount for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in the past, and I'll sometimes write a fic here or there for other fandoms.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
They're all Star Wars fics, which makes sense but makes me kind of sad because I love my other fics too. But oh well:
still much that is fair.
Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Jedi Code, and Other Things That Anakin Has Misunderstood
Take Two
brothers don't let each other wander in the dark alone
growing season (absolutely BLEW MY MIND that this one is in my top five now. It's a one-shot kidfic for a pairing I don't write often?? I'm not used to those getting notes. But I guess it is the Codywan era for prequels fans so I can see where it's coming from.)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to! But sometimes I don't have the spoons for it. But I love getting comments and want to show my appreciation!
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't usually write super angsty endings! I don't like them. Or, well, actually I do enjoy them sometimes, but IDK, if I'm writing a whole-ass fic, I usually want to make the ending happy!
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending
still much that is fair! which is wild because it has one of the angstiest premises I've ever written (suicide attempt that all loved ones believed to be successful, ends with characters giving each other hugs and 'love yous' and closure)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Rarely. Every once in a while. Sometimes people don't like me writing autistic headcanons or characters mentioning pronouns.
9. Do you write smut?
No. I'm not opposed to it in fic, but it doesn't interest me.
10. Do you write crossovers?
No, but I'll read them sometimes. I'm not opposed to writing them, but I've never really gotten an idea for one that inspires me.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of! I did once have someone warn me that my fic was 're-posted' to ao3 back in the days when I was still posting on both ffnet and ao3 with different usernames.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, actually, though I forgot about it until asked! It's not one I ever posted. I co-wrote a Maximum Ride fic with a friend in middle school, lol. But I'd love to co-write again in the future! It's fun to talk about ideas with friends.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
All-time favorite ship is SO hard for me because I'm a multishipper and I flipflop fandoms a lot, so I kind of default to my first (and still beloved) ship: Janeway/Chakotay from Star Trek: Voyager. I'm also gonna answer for my two main fandoms atm: Star Wars is Obi-Wan/Satine and TAZ Balance is Barry Bluejeans/Lup/Lucretia, because I love a good polycule. Also Barry and Lup on their own are great but they remind me too much of my parents to really go wild over them.
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Be My Brother's Keeper. A Darcy Lewis is Tony Stark's daughter AU. I love that one and I had PLANS for it, but my Marvel days are so long gone.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I'm good at coming up with creative, unique ideas and making them work!! People often say that they didn't expect to like my fics from the premise but enjoyed them anyway. :3 I'm also good at character interactions and emotions
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Describing things, mainly visual things that are happening. They're just there, in the fanfic, not in a physical location to me. Also staying motivated to finish writing and avoiding derailing my own ideas with wanting to include EVERYTHING.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I haven't done it before but I'm not opposed!
19. fandom you wrote for?
Like, first fandom? Nancy Drew. I wrote a Nancy Drew fanfic when I was eight years old on looseleaf notebook paper, before I knew that anyone else wrote fanfic. In it, Nancy fell down a hole, broke her leg, everyone who loved her thought she was dead and they were all soso sad, but then they found her and it ended happily. My tastes have not evolved much since, but my writing ability has!
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
Changes often! Currently it is The Parent Trap(ped in an Umbrella) but I'm also quite fond of Still Much That Is Fair and one more last try, I'm gonna get the ending right.

Alright so I now desperately want to see Cody dealing with Actual Fans when he starts competing again on the national level and Ben's reaction to that. So... one more snippet prompt for the road? From anyone's POV, doesn't even have to be the boys :DDD
Ben getting repeatedly reminded that his bf is Kind of a Big Deal will never not delight me. SO! Here is a little piece post-HotR. Codywan, of course!
~~~~~
Ben couldn’t go to all of Cody’s competitions. He had too much swirling through his life, too many responsibilities, to drive off to different states through the season. He watched the ones he couldn’t attend.
And, occasionally, he got to go along, to sit in the stands and watch, breath held in his chest. Usually, they hurried back to the hotel room Cody’d gotten after the events; Cody was generally in very high spirits after a competition.
Sometimes, they went out to eat after wrecking the bed.
They’d gone to some bar that was far larger than 79s for the evening, Ben too tired to really focus on the decor. The food tasted good, though, and the music was nice, not too loud, and Ben had been happily listening to Cody talk about each event when someone stumbled up to their table, almost falling against it before catching herself.
“Hi,” the young woman said, all dark hair and eyes, jeans and a blouse, blushing cheeks. “Hi, I’m - real sorry to interrupt, but I had to ask, because my friends--” she gestured over her shoulder, towards a table of women who waved, wildly “--don’t believe me, but, you’re him, aren’t you? Cody Fett?”
Ben blinked, watching Cody glance up at her with a smile, leaned back against the booth, one leg stretched out beneath the table so his ankle rested against Ben’s. He said, “I might be.”
“Oh, my God,” the woman breathed out, eyes getting impossibly wider, before she turned back to her friends and called, “I was right!” She whipped back around almost right away, going on, “Oh, my God, seriously, that’s--oh, my God, can I - I don’t know - buy you a drink?”
“That’s alright,” Cody said, with a little shake of his head, opening his mouth, but most of the rest of the woman’s party swept over at that point, jostling closer, calling congratulations on his placement, one sliding to the front with her phone out.
“Can I get a picture?” she asked, pretty dress swaying as she sat on the edge of the booth seat.
“Sure, of course,” Cody said, smiling when she leaned back with a happy noise, phone held up to capture them both. And there was something...odd, about how evidently normal this apparently was to Cody, who didn’t seem disoriented or taken off guard by having five people rush his table to offer him drinks, take pictures, or ask for autographs.
“I’m so sorry,” the woman who had gotten the picture said, standing again, “I didn’t even introduce myself. I’m Jeanne.” She gestured around, introducing the rest of her group in rapid fire, Cody nodding along while Ben leaned against the booth and took the entire situation in, content to watch.
Until she finished, and Cody said, “Pleased to meet all of you,” as he reached across the table, snagging Ben’s hand, fingers threading together, “this is Ben.”
“Oh, hi, Ben,” the first woman - she’d been introduced as Millie - said, dropping down onto the seat beside Ben, “isn’t he great?”
Ben blinked at her, mouth twitching, and said, “Oh, I think so, yes.” Cody squeezed his fingers, gentle, and Ben shot him a smile. This was all...quite unexpected, but--
Someone cleared their throat, loudly, at that point. Ben looked over to find the people at the booth behind them rising, looking over, and figured that they were - perhaps - tired of their evening getting disturbed.
But, instead, the man leaned over the back of the booth and said, offering out his hand, “Good to see you out there again, man, read that article about what happened with your dad.”
And that was...just how the evening went, until they finally made their way out - to a chorus of goodbyes - and back to their hotel room. Ben’s head was buzzing faintly - he’d drunk more than he usually did, because everyone had kept insisting on buying rounds for Cody and - when they realized he was with Cody - for him
He leaned against the wall as they made it through the door, the lights still off in the room, and said, considering all the noise and excitement, “Well, I’m pleased to see you’re not hurting for company when you’re out here.”
It felt like an adjustment to his understanding of Cody’s life. He should have already known; Cody was very good at what he did, at everything he did, and so of course people noticed, and--
“I don’t want their company,” Cody rasped, cutting into his thoughts, warm in the dark of the room, hands settling on Ben’s sides, pushing him more firmly against the wall.
“Oh?” Ben asked, breath catching, processing temporarily set to one side as Cody leaned bodily against him, slanting their mouths together, and just like that it was just them again, the rest of the world falling away.
My Top 10 Ships of 2020
It's been a weird year but I've seen other people doing this. Plus this year I've been way more into gen fics (love a bit of found family especially in clone wars and marvel) than anything shippy. So I genuinely don't know what imma put on here aside from two ships for sure. Sorry this post is super long idk how to do the below the cut thing and I've had this app for 5 years...
10) Viktor Nikiforov and Yuuri Katsuki - Yuri!!! On Ice
It was a real toss up between this, supercorp, kanera and wolfstar cos they're all very integral ships to my fan heart but this son because of the Yuri on Ice fandom's rebirth this year. I've never stopped shipping this, never stopped reading fanfic of them for any extended period of time, they're still my most bookmarked ship on ao3 (although I think now star wars - all media types may have overtaken them for fandom). They were one of the first things I watched where the queer ship I loved became canon and I can't wait for the film (and hopefully someday a season 2). Heck I even made my mum watch Yuri on Ice with me so I think that says it all.
Tumblr media
9) Edelgard Von Hresvelg and female Byleth - Fire Emblem: Three Houses
My first fire emblem game was fates when I was like 14 (and finally gay awake lol). I was so disappointed that I had to be with a guy character because the only female option was kinda creepy and also I wouldn't get the character of kana. So when three houses came out I was so happy because finally there were beautiful incredible female characters my female byleth could romance (I'm so sorry mlm you deserved so much more than you got). I got the game as soon as it came out (had to search a lot of shops let me tell you) and started on black eagles. I was actually kinda disappointed back in 2019. I didn't like the explore the monastery bit (still find it kinda tedious) and the battle mechanics weren't quite the same as fates (no pairing up?! Aka my main battle technique for protecting the weaker units). So I got like 20 hours in and put it down. Came back to it in lockdown and finally finished it! I'm so proud of myself I virtually never finish games. And I fully fell in love with the useless lesbian edelgard in the process. When I started back playing in 2020 I was like eh I wish I'd picked a different character to romance (like shes an emperor that's morally very shady) but then the romance stuff started with edelgard and I fell the heck in love.
Tumblr media
8) Cory Matthews and Shawn Hunter (and Topanga Lawrence) - Boy Meets World
Disney+ was released in the UK this year and I finally got the opportunity to watch boy meets world in its best quality (aka not on YouTube). I watched it back when I was like 12 or 13 and it's such a nostalgic show for me. Watching it again I still absolutely adore it (and my bi ass was low-key crushing on Shawn especially in chick like me - I'm 18 btw and I got so scared for a sec but rider strong was 18 when chick like me came out so it's fine woah). And of course now I see the possibilities of the beautiful Cory and Shawn relationship like they were so bromance it was basically romance and throw in topanga it's the perfect ot3 (but I'm also fine with just Cory and Shawn or just Cory and Topanga). Read some good fanfic for them this year. My favourite was one about Shawn stealing makeup and stuff and exploring gender (need more fics like this I'm biiii).
Tumblr media
7) Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes - Marvel Cinematic Universe
I rewatched all the MCU films this year too. And got really into Peter parker whump and irondad. Plus my eternal obsession with identity and relationship reveals of course led me from Spiderman identity reveals (and found family cuteness) to stucky coming out. Especially when it involves the internet and social media. Not my favourite ship but it's been significant to my year due to the sheer amount of marvel stuff I've read.
Tumblr media
6) Satine Kryze and Obi Wan Kenobi - Star Wars
I rewatched clone wars in prep for season 7 and wow Satine's death was sad and sudden. She first appeared in S2 E13 I think and just the sheer sexual tension of their bickering. "The sarcasm of a soldier. The delusion of a dreamer." Just ugnnhhh my bi ass can't take much more of this. And Anakin just sipping his wine in the background grinning. And I fully believe korkie is a Kenobi.
Tumblr media
5) Commander Cody and Obi Wan Kenobi - Star Wars
I am very much an Obi wan multishipper. I don't really have a favourite but I fully believe he was with satine and Quinlan in his life. I don't think be would've actually done anything with Cody because of the whole superior officer thing. And this probably isn't even my favourite Obi wan ship - that honour probably goes to quinobi or obitine. However the most popular ships in the fandom are codywan, quiobi and obikin. No offence to anyone who ships these they're just personally not to my taste, but I can't stand quiobi, and obikin I find only slightly more tolerable and I think that's just because there's so much obikin content so if I like the concept of a fic that happens to be obikin I'll read it. I'm just not a fan of the mentor/student relationships. So I generally favoured the codywan fics when there was shipping involved meaning I read a lot of them this year. Needed that nice fix it content post season 7.
Tumblr media
4) Zuko and Katara - Avatar: the Last Airbender
Again I am a multishipper I have nothing against zukka it's cute. But I'm a zutara shipper first and foremost because when I first watched avatar I was like 13 and denying my gayness and gayness in general so I shipped the straight things and the straight things only. Most of these ships I stopped shipping - dramione, spuffy, some my little pony ones which we don't talk about. Zutara stayed. (I have nothing against any of the things I used to ship I just stopped shipping them so much/shipped new things more). I've continuously shipped zutara since I first watched avatar even if I didn't necessarily spend that much time on it it has always been here as one of my favourite ships. It has such good fanfic I swear including my favourite ever fanfic from any fandom - love thy enemy. Plus like the black games (reread this for the millionth time this year), a delicate subterfuge (which I read for the first time this year and damn it's so good) and so many more. With the avatar resurgence this year I haven't actually rewatched avatar aside from my normal random episode every now and then when I feel like it. But there's been a lot of avatar on my dash from people I follow getting into it and people I followed for avatar returning so naturally I returned to the fandom and read quite a lot of fanfic. I also read just a lot of avatar gen fics which were great at the whole found family thing I've been so obsessed with this year.
Tumblr media
3) Catra and Adora - She Ra and the Princesses of Power
Catradora is canon! They kissed! What more is there to say. Arguably they should've been top but I never shipped them that much since I was always very much a multishipper when it came to she ra so yes I was very happy it became canon because we actually won for once but also I've never read much fanfic for them etc. But they are very much a dynamic I love and watching she ra all again in prep for season 5 I really enjoyed the build up of their relationship. The other two only go above because Buffy is my favourite show ever and damn there's some good fuffy fanfic and Aphra and Tolvan is both fresh in my mind and star wars owns me. Would love some catradora fic recs btw if anyone has them tho.
Tumblr media
2) Buffy Summers and Faith Lehane - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
I didn't realise it was last year that I got super into them but according to my ao3 bookmarks it was lol. 2020 I swear it's lasted an eternity. I got into them about a month before lockdown (which feels like another lifetime). I've loved Buffy since I first watched it when I was 13. It's arguably still my favourite TV show. I've been through a lot of ships for Buffy - bangel to spuffy and now fuffy. I still think angel and her were a beautiful ship back in season 2 and especially in the angel episode I will remember you. But faith and Buffy had so much chemistry in season 3 - she would've been a fresh start for Buffy and the amount of fix it fics I read I swear. My favourite has to be one where they met in LA during Anne and how that changed everything feat Buffy's internal homophobia.
Tumblr media
1) Cheili Lona Aphra and Magna Tolvan - Star Wars
I read Darth Vader (2015) and Doctor Aphra (2016) for the first time at the end of 2020 (got a comic subscription which has served me very well already I've nearly finished the star wars canon comics). Just to see canon queer ladies in star wars was so magical for me as a queer lady. I didn't think star wars would be so overt yet as to have a queer kiss in canon (even if it's in the comics) and especially not with the main character of arguably their main comic series. Now we just gotta hope that we'll get it in live action someday soon. They weren't the ship I consumed the most content of in 2020 but they were the highlight of my 2020 because star wars did that and I finally found out about it
Tumblr media
Honourable mentions: Vivian and Elle - Legally Blonde, Candace and Vanessa - Phineas and Ferb, Stevie and Alex - Wizards of Waverly Place, Xander and Spike - Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I actually don't ship this but damn some authors are good - this was the ship that made me realise I don't need to like a ship if the author is good enough to write it well), Eli Vanto and Mitth'raw'nuruodo - Star Wars (started reading the books last year but finished this year and only started with fanfic this year), Villanelle and Eve - Killing Eve, Kanan and Hera - Star Wars, Barriss and Ahsoka - Star Wars, Remus and Sirius - Harry Potter, Kara and Lena - Supergirl (let's hope this becomes canon next year!) (Those last four are ones I've shipped forever some of my og ships but nothing particularly big has happened for me this year with them so)
I got Disney+ this year so rewatched a fair few things from my youth and though hey my obsession with that character may have been a little gay.
creator appreciation tag!
I was tagged by @nerjetii thank you very much!!!!
RULES: It’s time to love yourselves! choose your 5 (ish) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works.
aight, here we go! These are in no particular order.
Somehow, We Found Each Other
I chose this one because it was one I didn’t expect to write multiple chapters for, but I was very happy that I did. It was fun to explore a universe where Obi-Wan wasn’t a Jedi but Cody was still in the GAR. I love this ship and I love exploring different AU’s for it and this one was one that I didn’t think I was going to have an amazing time writing, but I totally did.
So Will I
Why this one? It’s not done! Well, this one was picked because it started out as a very self-indulgent fic. I wanted to combine my favorite things into one fic and So Will I is what came from that. I didn’t expect it to get as many people’s attention as it did. Like I said, it started as something I wanted real bad and knew that no one else was going to ever write it lol, so I was surprised to see how many people like it. Is it the bane of my existence right now? Yes. Does that mean I hate it? Nope. It’s just a nice, fluffy fic.
Melt Your Headaches, Call It Home
Listen. Post-Zigoola fics are some of my favorite fics to read and I had to write one for myself. This is what came from that need. It was the first time I tried writing certain characters and I was insanely nervous about it. I just wanted Obi-Wan to be cared for and loved and I think it turned out alright. I really liked this one and it’s companion piece as well.
Five Winters
So, this was actually supposed to be my secret santa fic, but the person I was giving to wasn’t a fan of modern au’s lol. So, yeah. I really liked writing this fic. You all know I’m a sucker for Codywan and modern au’s and fluffiness in general. I was happy that people liked it. It’s always a nice thing. To see that people enjoy reading something you’ve written.
I Am Just A New Invention
This is definitely a fic that not a lot of people enjoyed. It was, again, for my own personal enjoyment, so I don’t mind. I wanted to explore an Obi-Wan that went through something not great at a young age and see him grow up with that. Though, yes, we don’t see that in this fic. But it was eating at my brain and I needed it, and again, no one else was going to write it, so I did lol. (yeah, i have more planned for this too, but those might just hang out in my notebook lol)
oof ok! That was fun!!!!
thank u for the tag @maderilien !! i don’t know many fic writers that haven’t already been tagged by mutuals lol so tagging @neverfeedthesarlacc and @cwosshair and @catboycrosshair and @milfsue and anyone else who wants to do this :)
1. how many works do u have on ao3?
22 :)
2. total ao3 word count?
44,531!
3. how many fandoms have u written for and what are they?
erm uhh uh let’s see--star wars (the mandalorian, prequels, tcw), marvel comics / marvel’s daredevil (i write an unholy amalgamation of comic daredevil + show daredevil lol), dc comics, vertigo comics, and some unpublished overwatch fics ... so five? ish?
4. top five fics by kudos?
to sleep, to swim, to dream (dinluke mer au); bleed-through (codywan fix-it); my heart bleeds gold (mando obi + cody au); coming full circle (codywan 5 + 1 fic); good enough for you or me (The Sandalwood Fic aka superior iron man / daredevil ... thing)
5. do u respond to comments? why / why not?
yes, always! comments are literally like heroin! i appreciate them so much! i always try to comment on fics i read if i can so i try to let people know i appreciate them :)
6. what's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
i don’t like sad endings but uhh ... of dying dreams the undead sing doesn’t have a happy ending, if that counts? it’s just a character study for king chimera (my FAV vastly underrated shitty white man of last year; was in the JSA for like ... three issues before disappearing without a trace) but he’s not a happy character, so
7. do u write crossovers? if so what is the craziest one you've done?
erm no but i have Always wanted to do a pacrim au for literally any fandom lol. i also have the vaguest stirrings of daredevil but make him a star wars character. im not a big fan of crossovers themselves but din / matt is uh. a crackship that i subscribe to sometimes. crossover aus, however ... <3
8. have u ever received hate on a fic?
i have not and i think if i did i would just laugh. idk just something about it. like ik hate upsets ppl and rightfully so!! that’s super valid!! but ur gonna come to MY house and tell me that my fictional brain interpretation of Some Guy who doesn’t exist is wrong and / or that you don’t like it, totally unprompted? i mean, come on! (insert “get a load of this guy” pic)
9. do u write smut? if so, what kind?
i have written (published) smut one (1) time for codywan week and it was fluffy and not too wild. i think sex scenes have good potential and can add good development etc etc but i haven’t really gotten around to a project where i’ve thought. hm! i might add some sex here! i got close on tststd and ultimately may end up publishing a separate work in the same series with cutaway scenes / extras (that will contain smut) but it’s up in the air rn
10. have u ever had a fic stolen?
not to my knowledge! im really just getting into fandom (especially star wars!) and tststd (published june) was like. baby’s first foray into Real Fic Writing lmao
11. have u ever had a fic translated?
nope!
12. have u ever co-written a fic before?
yes :) all of my wonderbeast (hank mccoy / simon williams) fics are co-written with @/milfsue :)
13. what's your all time fav ship?
ough. idk. i jump ships a lot ... non-ocs, i think my top ... five? five, in no particular order, are cody / obi-wan, superior iron man / daredevil (it can work!! they can make it work!! maybe), dc’s obsidian and his normie husband (<3), din / boba, annnnnnd gideon / harrow (from tamsyn muir’s locked tomb trilogy) :) honorable mentions are wonderbeast, pynch, sarchengsey, and harper row / cass cain
14. what's a wip that u want to finish but don't think u ever will?
i have a lot of ideas but not a lot of time OR gumption and a lot of the time i end up running out of steam. i don’t like writing projects off (like maddie said) so it’s more of a sneaking suspicion than anything else. but. pacrim daredevil au, ocean’s eleven codywan fic extension (???), and this uhhh ... this space opera bullshit thing. it’s very self-indulgent and set in the tcw universe / era and it’s less of a “i don’t want to finish” and more of a “this is non-linear and i just keep adding shit as i see fit” bc it’s like my therapy fic :)
15. what are your writing strengths?
i love characterization!! love developing gay little men. i’ve also been told that my dialogue is very lively and realistic :)
16. what are ur writing weaknesses?
exposition and plotting my beloathed </3
17. what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
im korean and semi-bilingual and the first time i saw korean in a book (alcatraz vs the evil librarians by brandon sanderson / the raven king by maggie stiefvater) i started vibrating. im also a linguistics nerd so i love including other languages and i do it all the time so overall. thoughts: good! i try to include interpretations or cues along with them so the reader isn’t pulled out of the story :)
18. what was the first fandom you wrote for?
i wanna say either dc or marvel. if it wasn’t a daredevil fic, it was a batman fic. ao3 says batman character study but i FEEL like i was writing dd fic before i wrote batman fic, despite being a batman fan for ... way, way longer
19. what's your favorite fic you've written?
i have a VERY large soft spot for The Sandalwood FicTM (linked above) because it’s the first one i wrote that wasn’t just an aimless character study and i just love writing daredevil because all the crunchy extra sensory description. a close second is to sleep, to swim, to dream, though; specifically the first chapter
for the fandom ask thing, q, s, x, and z (choose whichever ones you actually want to do)
Tumblr media
Q: I’ve cooled off on a lot of my early het ships, realizing they’re oftentimes hetero- or amatonormative and I can think of better options for the characters now. Pretty much all my Warriors and PJO/HOO ships are good examples of this. Prime Elena of Avalor example is older!Gababel: Gabe has so many potential partners his age with good chemistry, and I don’t really ship Isa with anyone anymore. Also the age gap is a lot weirder to me now, so.
S: A few hot headcanon takes for Elena of Avalor:
Carla is Ash’s biological daughter but not Victor’s. Adopted family rights
Elena, Esteban, Victor, and Felicia were all close friends for years, but kinda split off as teenagers, so Victor was “Esteban’s friend” and Felicia was “Elena’s friend”
Naomi’s paternal extended family is Jewish, but her father is non-practicing and the Turners follow Norberg customs as a family
Gabe has an older sister estranged from the family because someone in this show needs to have siblings besides Elena lol
Esteban can eventually learn to teleport without the staff but only himself, it takes the staff to teleport other people/things
Fiero gets unstoned during Elena’s big forgiveness magic reversal and just chills and goes on classy old man adventures with that seagull
X: Three OTPs from three fandoms:
...is it still Eleteo? It’s still Eleteo. Although Polyamigos is really giving it a run for its money. From Elena of Avalor of course
Codywan from Star Wars
uhhh what even counts as an otp for me honestly
Connverse from Steven Universe, Lumity from The Owl House, or Entrapdak from She Ra
I: The ATLA fandom is so annoying honestly because no one will shut up about how woke and deep and well thought out it was. People need to realize half of their analysis is them projecting extremely hard, which is valid but don’t praise the writers for that. The show is clearly written from a place of privilege and they honestly don’t treat the female characters all that great. Also no one in the fandom can handle criticism of the show and no one knows how to draw East Asian people that don’t just look white.
Also the fandoms for shows I actually dislike, notably Tangled and ML, for talking over fans of color nonstop and plugging their ears and complaining about “drama” when people bring up the myriad problems. It’s a whole lot worse for ML because the fandom’s huge and the show’s actively a trash fire, but the Tangled fandom thinks they’re so slick by acting like an uwu tiny fandom where they’re all one big happy family.
Z: Seriously, I have grown up on Elena of Avalor. It’s been part of my life for five years and it being over is wild. I have changed so much as a person in that time, and EOA is the biggest constant. It is not the best show I’ve watched (that honor would go to Steven Universe), but it’s my favorite and it’s been living in my head rent free since the finale. The characters, the relationships, the lore, the magic, the worldbuilding, the animation, the themes, everything. I’m excited to rewatch it in the future and keep making content and enjoying other people’s content and talking to people about it, because it’s so good and I love it so much. Viva la Reina, our Elena.
....this is....difficult for me, but i’ll try! fics listed in no particular order, but probably chronologically from when I wrote them.
“Like Real People Do” - it took me roughly two years to finish writing this fic, which has just... so very many Obi-Wan Kenobi clones in it. I still feel bad for Once and Ben, so, you know. There’s that. SO MANY PAIRINGS in this fic, starting with Obikin and Codywan, though, of course, they’re all not really those pairings, since they involve clones.
“First Sight” And my first full Codywan fic! Which very nearly had a much sadder ending, I’m just.... so very weak for happy endings, even if we have to go through Order 66 to get there.
“A Slow Fall Towards Grace” I couldn’t leave off the slo!au! I really am very happy with how it came out, for the most part, even if it ended up so much longer than I planned. Codywan, ABO, so much sadness, additional warnings apply.
“A Treatise on Breaking and Repairs” Or the oof!au, which I actually picked more as a representation of the fact that I finished whumptober this year. And.... more than half of the whumptober prompts are in THIS FIC. It’s incredibly dark and full of pain, but also hope and healing. Warnings for torture, non-con, oh so much more....
“Flotsam and Jetsam” My end of the year mer!au baby! Technically, the sequel is on-going, I know. BUT f+j is completed and was before the new year, so it counts as a 2020 piece of fiction, I think.
AS FOR TAGGING I’M.... not sure exactly who has done this yet but i don’t think i’ve seen anything from @adiduck or @levitatingbiscuits. ALSO anyone else who would like to play, I would love to see it!
thank you for the tag @kckenobi !
I Am Just A New Invention - A fic in Qui-Gon’s point of view after and during the rescue of his Padawan.
I actually really like this fic (even if so many didn’t lol) and had a great time writing it. I like trying new things and this fic felt like I definitely stepped in a different direction in terms of writing style. Maybe. I don’t know lol. This one was fun, is all I have to say.
Magical Curse - In which Obi-Wan knows that he’s cursed (with infinite sadness) but no one believes him.
What can I say about this one? It was different, again. I took another different approach and it came out really well. I really enjoyed tackling this one. Lol I’m no good at talking about why I like the things I like
Melt Your Headaches, Call It Home - A post Zigoola fic where Obi-Wan heals under the watchful eyes of his friends.
I absolutely loved writing this. I love post Zigoola fics and I love recovery fics so when I finally got the idea for this fic, I was ecstatic. It was a really fun one as well. I love Obi-Wan being cared for by his friends. It’s a nice thing to read.
So Will I - An arranged marriage fic between Obi-Wan and Cody.
This is my second multi chapter fic that is codywan. There’s this weird little headspace I have to get into to write this fic and it’s kind of difficult to write. However, it’s my pride and joy at the moment. I love this fic. The chapters are slow to be written, but I don’t regret writing it or starting it. I really just wrote the fic for me. I wrote it to combine my favorite things (arranged marriage, fantasy, magic, blind obi-wan, codywan) and didn’t think anyone would really care for it lol. I was wrong. But this one is really fun to write.
Somehow, We Found Each Other - Where Obi-Wan never becomes a Jedi, Cody still fights in the war, and they still find each other.
Ok listen. I know I should have put this one at the top. It’s actually my all time favorite fic that I’ve written. I loved this one. It started out as a oneshot and then people wanted more and I said, “why not? could be fun.” and it was. It was so fun and it was wholesome and fluffy. I really loved it. I really did. I was sad to see it end, but I’m happy I got to do it. It’s a fic that I constantly want to revisit. I always want to add more to it. I don’t know. I just really loved this fic.
