In case anybody was wondering how tumblr is doing right now...

I've just had to explicitly tell this hellsite not to share my content with AI companies.

This is the same hellsite that primarily profits from unique skill and talent, usually manifested in fanart, fanfic, fandom inspired original creations, and whack job nuttery like the vanilla extract cake or Bendy Dick Cumber Bitch.

Only Real Human People make things like that. Or at least make them halfway decently, anyway. A lot of those Human People are queer, disabled, POC, or otherwise disadvantaged in some way.

So, go to your account settings, select "visibility", and make sure the prevent third-party sharing toggle is ON. It should be blue and/or to the right, depending on your system/app appearance settings.

One time during a school project the people in my group used AI to write a project for them, and despite my warnings that the teacher would be able to tell and we'd all be in trouble.

They didn't listen. The teacher figured it out in a heart-beat.

It may come as a surprise to some that the W.G.A. apparently never wanted, nor sought, an outright ban on the use of tools like ChatGPT. Instead, it aimed for a more important assurance: that if A.I. raises writers’ productivity or the quality of their output, guild members should snare an equitable share of the performance gains. And the W.G.A. got it.

How did it achieve this? In this case, the parties agreed that A.I. is not a writer. The studios cannot use A.I. in place of a credited and paid guild member. Studios can rely on A.I. to generate a first draft, but the writers to whom they deliver it get the credit. These writers receive the same minimum pay they would have had they written the piece from scratch. Likewise, writers can elect to use A.I. on their own, when a studio allows it. However, no studio can require a guild member to use A.I.

These negotiations were likely aided by the fact that studios have their own concerns about A.I. Material generated by A.I. cannot be copyrighted, which presents several challenges to studios, since they typically own the copyright on material from writers they’ve hired. By assuring that human writers will be involved in any writing that also involves A.I., the studios start to insulate themselves from those copyright concerns.

I support the WGA, overall, but this is bullshit.

AI is built on theft.

The lack of copyright for AI might be a key reason the studios even sat down with the writers again. Yet, the writers are willing to basically rewrite AI-generated first drafts. Drafts built on theft. How is that a good thing?

To use AI at any point in the process is to steal from fellow writers.

I recognize the WGA might not have achieved an outright ban, but I wish it had tried.

I have never felt more rage in my life than finding out that my old uni. A prestigious art school in my country is implementing AI into the art curriculum. I have left that school for about 2 or 3 years bug i have friends, who i know are extremely talented people, and they’re so frustrated because that school wants them to learn to use AI. Fuckin hell, they deserve better than this. People who make art for a living don’t deserve the bullshit treatment of corporations and society implementing artificial intelligence to recreate something organic.

Art is an expression of one’s feelings, desires and dreams and here’s our timeline, people wanting to manufacture it via robot. For fucks sake, art schools should protect its young up and coming creators not threatening their futures.

This is a big FUCK YOU to those very people. Fuck corporations and companies that don’t see the value of art because paying actual people is so fuckin hard. Writers, animators, graphic designers, you are all the backbone of modern day media.
