Maneo Task: 006

· What is your muse’s full name and do they have any nicknames? Full name: Alexandre Jisoo Guerrero Moon Nicknames: Alec, AJ

· What do they look like? Alec is about 6’0 tall with tan skin and steel grey eyes. He has shaggy hair dyed a dark silver. While he is rather lithe and lean, he’s not scrawny by any means. He has a lot of lean muscle and the subtle traces of his muscles can still be seen under his clothes, even when he doesn’t dress to show them off. He has a tattoo on his inner right wrist that is indicative of his father’s pack, a birthright mark given to all of age wolves when they’ve earned their place and role within the hierarchy. Alec was given his mark when he turned 15. (ex. – 1, 2)

· Do they have any distinguishing features such as scars, unique birthmarks, etc.? Beyond the mark on his wrist, Alec has a vertical scar on the left side of his abdomen from a years old stab wound.

· What are your muse’s friends and family like? Who do they usually surround themselves with? Alec’s entire biological family was killed, but when his parents and brother were still alive, they were a very close-knit family unit. His father, despite being the one to get his sons involved with the cartel, did his best to protect them and train them to handle anything. He was very close to his younger brother and was very protective of him, which is a trait he continues to display with his friends. His mother was a loving, free-spirited woman who inspired a passion for food and cooking. Alec tends to surround himself with people he gets along with well and those he can provide for. Without a family of his own, he’s built up his chosen family with members of Venor he works with and has connected with another descendant of his father’s pack.

· Who would you consider the closest person to your muse? Probably Suwei. With Suwei, he has a connection to his father’s pack and is extremely protective over her. He spends an absurd amount of time worrying over her well-being and does everything he can to provide a familial bond for her.

· Where was your character born and what was their living situation growing up there? Alec was born in Acapulco, Mexico. His early childhood was pleasant and he spent majority of his time in the kitchen with his mother or running amuck in his father’s auto repair garage with his brother playing hide and seek, or pretending to fixing the cars. He was blissfully ignorant of his father’s involvement with the cartel until he was about 15. That’s when he realized what was really going on and when his father pulled him into fold. They lived modestly with the money his father made from his shop (and from embezzling money from the cartel), but never splurged. It was a comfortable life until his father’s greed got the best of him and resulted in the death of both parents.

· What is your muse’s biggest fear and does anyone know? If so, who, and if not, why not? One of Alec’s biggest fears is his past catching up with him. His father and brother’s mistakes led to their deaths and while Alec wasn’t directly involved in the embezzlement, he took what was left of it all and ran with it. He made a few mistakes along the way and he’s aware that while he covered his tracks to the best of his ability, both the cartel and the yakuza aren’t his biggest fans. He hasn’t told anyone this, primarily because he wants to bury the past and keep his slate clean in Seoul.

· Has your muse ever fallen in love before? If so, with who? Did it end well? Alec has never been in love. He’s only had a handful of hookups over the years, but hasn’t found anyone he’s connected with enough to say he’s in love.

· What would you find in your muse’s refrigerator right now? He loves to cook, mostly Mexican food, though there’s probably a small jar of Kimchi in there somewhere. There’s plenty of homemade leftovers and fresh ingredients for spontaneous meals. He’s stocked up on bottles of Corona with a couple limes in the bottom drawer, with a stray orange or two. There’s a carton of eggs, maybe a half carton of milk and a 12-pack of Pepsi. He also has a ridiculous number of takeout boxes, most of them half eaten and filled with Chinese leftovers.

· What does your muse usually wear? Alec generally lives his life in jeans and loose cotton shirts, both crew and V-neck. Working in the auto shop, he doesn’t have any use for fancy, expensive clothes given how dirty he tends to get and how worn out the fabric ends up. He doesn’t bother splurging when he knows he’s going to ruin most of his wardrobe. He tends to stick with darker colors like navy, charcoal grey and black because it hides the dirt and grease better and if it doesn’t wash out, it’s still not all that visible so he can get away with it. He sticks with sneakers, generally Adidas or Nike and leans more towards comfort over style. When he’s not working in the garage or working on his skills in the Venor training room, he’ll get a little more dressed up, but only if he’s specifically going out or spending time with someone. At home, he tends to just wear sweatpants or basketball shorts and if he gets cold, he’ll throw on a zip up sweater.

· What is your muse’s strongest memory that they carry around? Alec remembers vividly the sight of his parents’ bodies in the living room of his childhood home. It was an awful scene to witness and as much as he tries not to remember, it’s still his strongest memory to this day.

How old is your sim? 17.

When is your sim’s birthday? July 12.

What is your sim’s ethnicity? Uhhh... American? To be more specific, she has some Spanish, German, and Korean from her dad’s side of the family, and a lil Mexican from her granddad Max.

Does your sim have any nicknames? Eva.

Do they have a job? If so what is it? In the summer she works at a gelato shop on Malibu Pier.

Where does your sim live? Los Angeles, California, USA.

Who does your sim live with? Her home is with her parents and siblings, but she’s about to sorta live by herself in a university hall type environment.

What environment did your sims grow up in? (strict, loving, cold etc.) Loving, and quite free as well. Cherry kinda let the kids run around outside doing whatever, but if a scolding was needed Gabriel always stepped in, because the kids took him more seriously lol.

What are your sim’s favorite foods? Hawaiian pizza (fight her), acai bowls, campfire s’mores, summer fruits from the garden. She’s not picky as she both loves junk food and fresh vegetables/fruits.

What is your sim’s favorite drink? Caramel frappucino from Starbucks. Coffee, really.

If they have one what is your sim’s favorite color? Sea blue.

Does your sim believe in any clichés? (love at first sight) No, she’s a fairly practical person.

What is your sim’s sexuality? Straight.

Does your sim have a best friend? Counting all her siblings and cousins, she has 9 ‘best friends’, and has grown up super close with India. Later in the story she has a best friend squad that includes India, Piper Rozehart, Keanu Goldman, and a character called Sasha Copeland who I haven’t made yet.

What is/was your sim’s favorite school subject? When she was attending normal high school, music. Conversely, she absolutely hated maths and can’t do basic equations for shit.

Is/was your sim a high, mid or low achiever in school? Again, in normal high school she was a mid achiever; not super stupid but nowhere near as intelligent as her older siblings.

Are they planning to go or have they already been to college? If so, what would be or what was their major? She is currently at the beginning of a two-year pre-professional ballet programme at Los Angeles Academy of Performing Arts.

Does your sim have a favorite tv show (cable) and/or movie? She and her siblings are hardcore Marvel fans.

Is your sim a Netflix viewer? If so what are their top 3 shows. The Good Place, The Umbrella Academy, Stranger Things.

Does your sim like books? If so what’s their favorite one? Eva doesn’t read books very often, but Fawn made her read classics such as Harry Potter. She also likes the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series.

Does your sim enjoy video games, if so what is their favorite one and do they play on pc or console? Mario Kart competitions get pretty heated in the Kingston household. Wii Sports is also a favourite.

What is your sim’s personal style? Minimalist with a rough/sporty edge. Her staple outfit is a clean white tee, denim shorts, motorbike jacket, and white Adidas shoes.

What kind of music does your sim listen to and who is their favorite artist? Pop + hip hop + jazz, a real myriad, so she doesn’t have a fave artist. Anything bursting with energy and strong beats, easy to dance to.

What is your sim’s favorite type of weather? Hot, cloudless skies.

Does your sim prefer to start fights or finish them? Sometimes she does start fights, but tends to finish them, because she’s a kickboxer.

Does your sim have a dream job? Prima ballerina at a high ranking company.

What is your sims favorite hobby? Music. She plays guitar and can sing, and her siblings also play instruments -- Fawn + Santiago play piano and sing, Matias plays bass guitar and drums, Alec plays violin. They have a lil family band as a result. What else is to be expected from two musician parents?

What does your sim look for in a romantic partner? To not be a dick, I suppose. Eva has thin patience so she doesn’t spend much time thinking about romance anyway.

What is a flaw your sim has? She is extremely competitive and this can cause friction with *certain* people around her.

How do others generally perceive your sim? People generally tend to like Eva as she is friendly and optimistic. However, as with the last question, she can rub people the wrong way if they are also competitive or strongheaded.

Does your sim have a greatest achievement? If so what is it? Gaining a scholarship to the most prestigious ballet school in California.

If they have one, what is your sim’s greatest regret? Letting Matias name the puppy.

It was the third day in a row Alec gave you that reply when you tried to have dinner or lunch with him. Lately he had been way too busy fighting demons around NYC and although you understood the situation, it was still quite frustrating for you and it made you feel lonely.

“It’s not your fault, don’t worry” you said with a small smile.

“Still” he sighed sitting on his bed. He had been dying to go and see you that day, but they had been alerted of some demons in Brooklyn and he just had to go.

He knew you understood his job perfectly, but it still worried him that someday you would get tired of waiting for him for so long. He always tried his best to make time for you but lately it had been a blur and a mess, making him feel awful every time you spoke on the phone.

“Alec, seriously” you repeated. “I understand, it’s okay” you added.

“I’ll try to take a day off alright?” He said. You had heard that so many times that it made you roll your eyes. He couldn’t take days off and you knew that.

“Alec, stop” you almost laughed. “It’s not the end of the world, it’s just a busy week” you reassured him.

Even though you kept on telling him it was okay, he just didn’t stop. You knew he felt bad for cancelling on your over and over again but you truly understood. But it looked like he didn’t believe it. When you hung up that night, your head was pounding slightly and you still had a lot to study. You sighed sitting on your chair and looked down at your notes. They made no sense at all. You were exhausted but you knew you had to pass this test so you went to make yourself a coffee and get ready to spend most of the night awake.

When Saturday came and your exam had been done, you still hadn’t seen Alec. You did talk on the phone every day but you were starting to miss him really badly and you remembered him saying he probably would be able to see that day. Biting your lip, you picked up your phone to check the messages but there was nothing from him so you called him but when he didn’t pick up you decided to call Jace.

“Hey (Y/N)!” He said on the other side of the line. “How are you?” He asked.

“Fine, thanks” you smiled and bite your lip. “Is Alec over there? He told me we could met up today but I haven’t heard from him”

“Oh I think he’s asleep” Jace replied. “We have spent most of the night out due to some demons messing up around Queens” he explained.

“Oh…” you mumbled sitting on your bed. That sounded like it was going to be another day without him.

“But hey! Why don’t you come over? We can spend the day here all together” Jace suggested.

“I thought mundanes weren’t allowed in the Institute” you laughed, but deep down you were excited.

“Yeah well, that’s the general rule but there are exception and I’m sure as hell you’re one of them” he replied, probably smiling. “C’mon, Alec has been dying to see you all week” he added.

“Really?” You asked with a huge smile.

“He’s been a pain in the ass” he admitted making you laugh. “So c’mon” he repeated.

“Okay” you nodded to yourself as you got up. “I’m going to get ready and tell you when I’m on my way” you stated.

“Good, see you later then” he said and hung up when you said your goodbyes.

Suddenly the thought of this Saturday was much brighter than before. With a huge smile you stepped into the shower with music playing out loud and started getting ready, exited to see Alec after a long week. Since you probably wouldn’t leave the Institute you decided to wear something simple: a pair of jeans, your white Adidas and a jumper. Then, you took your coat and bag and got out of your house, heading towards the underground while you texted Jace saying you were on your way.

Thirty minutes later you were standing in front of the ruins that actually were the Institute. A bit hesitating, you walked through the fences and soon you could see the huge place. You smiled as you saw Jace waiting for you at the door.

“It took you ages” he said after giving you a quick hug.

“Sorry I don’t have a portal at home” you said with irony as you two walked in.

When you looked around you smiled. The Institute was a place you loved, a place where you always felt safe no matter what. People used to be nice to you, despite you being a mundane. You had a found a family within those walls. As usual, you spot Alec looking at the screen, which made you smile. It didn’t matter that he had a day off, he was always ready for the fight. Meanwhile, Clary and Izzy was sitting on some stairs with a bag of chips. They were the first ones to see you.

“(Y/N)!” Izzy exclaimed getting up.

When Alec heard your name being called, he looked up confused and then looked at the door, a smiling immediately forming as he saw you hugging Clary. It had been a whole week since the last time he saw you, a long and rough week, but there you were. Alec looked at Jace, who winked at him and Alec laughed. He did was a really good friend.

Forgetting about the screens, he walked over you, not taking his eyes off you until you spotted him walking closer. The smile you had grew even bigger as you walked faster towards him. As soon as you were closed enough, he took you in his arms, kissing you like he had been waiting to do all week. You hugged him tight when you both pulled away and hid your face in his neck.

“I missed you” you whispered after he kissed your head.

“I missed you too” he replied looking down at you. “I’m really-“ he started apologising again but you stopped him.

“If you apologise again for being busy I swear I’ll shoot an arrow at you” you threatened him, making him laugh before hugging you again.

The day you spent there at the Institute was the funniest and more relaxed you had in a long time. You were so happy every time you were around them and you actually wished you could just live there. But, as a mundane, you knew it wasn’t possible for you. Nevertheless, you were happy with being able to come and go anytime you wanted.

“I’m hungry” Jace mumbled when you finished watching a training session between him and Alec.

Alec went immediately to your side and kissed you softly, making you smile and blush lightly. Izzy was a few feet away training with Clary and when they saw that the guys had stopped, they did the same and joined you.

“We should have dinner” Clary said taking a bottle of water that Jace offered her.

“I don’t feel like cooking” Izzy mumbled taking a seat next to Alec who nodded in agreement.

“Maybe we can go out and buy something?” Jace suggested but they all groaned, not feeling like going out.

“Maybe I can cook something for you” you shrugged with a smile. Your cooking skills weren’t that good but they were useful enough to serve some dinner for four friends and your boyfriend.

“You can cook?” Izzy asked surprised.

“Don’t be so shocked” you laughed leaning against Alec.

“She’s good actually” Alec informed while rubbing your arm up and down.

“I’m in” Clary shrugged. “What can you do?”

“I don’t know…burgers? Omelette? Grilled cheese sandwiches?” You said as you thought of the fastest things to do.

“I’m in for a grilled cheese sandwich to be honest” Jace nodded with a small smile.

Everyone seemed pleased with that option so with a shrug you got up and they guided you to the kitchen, where they showed you where everything was and immediately offered their help. Eventually, it was only Alec and you cooking. It was enough for you. While you made the sandwiches, he was in charge of making a salad, requested by his sister who had gone, like the others, to take a shower.

“You know you can go and take a shower as well right?” You told Alec.

“I have time for that” he shrugged. “Now I want to be with you as much as I can” he added making you smile.

“You’ll have plenty of me” you said. “You’ll be sick of me in the end”

“That’s impossible” he smiled at you before moving closer. “You’re too good to get sick of you” he said before kissing your head.

“It’s the hunger talking” you teased him.

“Shut up” he laughed pushing you with his hip, making you laugh.

You spent the whole time cooking messing around. Sometimes he would through a piece of lettuce at you or you could through some cheese at him, until you both ended up in the middle of the kitchen, you against the table and Alec in front of you while kissing you.

“Over the food, really?” Jace said walking in. You pulled away laughing.

“Jealous” Alec said in your ear, making you laugh even more but you forced him to move away so you could finish the only sandwich left.

“Set up the table guys, this is almost done” you informed.

Immediately, they did as you were told and by the time the sandwiches were all done, the table was set. So you put the plates with the food in front of each one of the chairs, just when Izzy and Clary walked in the kitchen.

“Smells great” Clary said taking a seat. Izzy went to the fridge to grab something to drink before taking a seat as well.

“Thank you so much (Y/N)” Izzy thanked you with a smile.

“You can come and cook anytime you want” Jace winked, already taking his sandwich.

“Jerk” Alec laughed and looked at you. “You can come anytime you want” he shrugged.

“Thanks for inviting me” you shrugged with a big smile.

Dinner passed by full of laughter and jokes, most of them were just to tease you which ended in you saying how much you hated all of them. Alec changed your mind in no time, making everyone tease even more. When you finished, Izzy said she had some report to fill, Clary and Jace stayed cleaning up while you and Alec walked out of the kitchen hand in hand.

“I should get going” you sighed looking at him. It was getting late.

“I was thinking…” he bit his lip. “The subway will be closing soon…maybe you can stay over?” he proposed shyly.

“You…want me to stay?” You asked blushing.

“Of course” he shrugged. “I want to spend the night with you” he admitted pulling you closer to him. “I want to wake up next to you” he shrugged and moved his mouth towards your ear. “And I want to make you mine” he whispered, sending shivers down your back. You bit your lip and looked at him.

“I…” you laughed nervous all of sudden and decided not to talk, instead you stood on your toes and crashed your lips against his.

He chuckled against the kiss and pulled you closer, taking your action as a yes. He pulled away and looked down at you before taking your hand and taking you to his room where you would disappear for the rest of the night and a big part of the next day.

After they've finished eating, Roy and Alec invite Anita and Renee to join them on the lounge. The resident pianist is playing some jaunty jazz tunes and several diners have migrated to the stage to dance. Alec buys Anita a Simsmapolitan and Renee a piña colada from the Hot Bartender, which Anita accepts with a flurry of giggling protestations.

"Thank you Alec, but please don't buy me any more drinks after this," she says. "I'm already feeling quite woozy from the champagne."

"You will have as many drinks as it takes me to get Hot Bartender's phone number," says Alec. "That's the deal. And it is not open to negotiation."

"Let's hope he's playing hard to get, then," says Renee, raising her glass.

"Speaking of hot bartenders, did Joël tell you he quit working at The Grind?" says Anita to Roy, who isn't drinking because he has an important meeting to attend in an hour's time.

"Yeah, he texted me yesterday," says Roy. "He said he's going to be a stay-at-home-dad. And that you were going back to work full-time. Is that true? Or was he just yanking my chain?"

“S’ true,” says Anita. “I was upset at first, but I’ve accepted it now. And I have to admit that he’s much better with Alice than me. I mean, she still wakes up two or three times a night and he always gets up and settles her with no complaints whatsoever. And he reads and plays with her for hours…I mean, after ten minutes of playing with the xylophone or building blocks I’m bored out of my wits. So it kind of makes sense that I should go back to work.”

“Joël is an absolute saint,” says Renee.

“Please never tell him this, but I’m kind of envious of him, to be honest,” Roy says to Anita. “I really miss my kids since I moved back into the apartment. Just living in the same house, seeing them at breakfast, helping them with homework, tucking them in at night…it was magical. It’s something you should never take for granted, Neets.”

Anita takes a long sip of her drink while she searches for a response.

“Are you sure you wouldn’t like a drink, Roy?” she says. “I’m not used to hearing you sound so…so serious.”

“I’m fine,” he says. “I have to make tracks and get back to the office for this meeting, anyway. It’s just….Jesus. Alec, what are you doing?"

While he and Anita have been talking Renee and Alec have been getting very cozy, his arm around her shoulders.

“Would you like to dance, Madame?” Alec asks Renee. “I think it's time I showed Hot Bartender what he's missing out on."

“I thought you’d never ask,” giggles Renee, her fingernails scraping his thigh.

ethnicity: white (dad is american & mom is swedish)

eye color: grey/blue

hair color/description: close cut strawberry blonde hair, quite thick and will start to curl if let grow out.

skin (color, blemishes, tattoos, ect): he’s pretty pale and he’s got a heck ton of freckles all over his face and body, primarily his back. he’s got quite a few scars, mostly small and unnoticeable, except for a nasty gash that stretches across the entirety of his lower back and a long, slim scar down his arm that he got from a childhood mishap. as for tattoos, he has two, and they’re kept pretty well hidden. he’s got two intertwined snakes, one black and one white, in between his shoulder blades (this is what i imagine it to look like). and then on the left side of his ribs, he has a relatively small and simple bow and arrow tattoo.

misc physical attributes: has a simple woven black bracelet that he refuses to take off. also lives that ath-leisure aesthetic life. he loves those space adidas and nike looks.

relationship with alec & sibling (do they get along? ect.): deimos’ relationship with his dad is pretty damn strained, something they’re kind of both at fault for, given their inability to actually talk to each other. alec expects a lot from deimos & in turn deimos is terrified in letting him down and tends to distance himself on purpose. he’s a lot closer to his mom, freja, because she’s pretty damn awesome & he feels like he isn’t weighed down by her expectations for him. as for skadi, deimos loves them and would follow them to the end of the world. they never really fought, even though they’re nearly polar opposites. they’ve always trusted each other the most and confided in each other.

projected bff (the squad mate who isn’t bae but you always take): i think he’s really going to appreciate Liam’s combat experience and then fall into friendship because of how different they are and how he kind of reminds Deimos of Skadi.

dreams/hobbies/likes: he’s super into retro stuff. old movies and books and games. he like, probably owns an ps3 lmao. he also big time loves space. he’s the kid that claims he say bigfoot in his backyard. he also LOVES flying. it’s own of his favourite things to do when he needs to get out of his own head. even if its just running a simulation. it makes him feel calm and grounded, ironically.

fears/dislikes: his biggest fear is probably letting down/disappointing his family or letting them get hurt. he’s also not a big fan of huge bodies of water. he doesn’t like the cocky types of leaders who are all talk. not a huge fan of winter and the cold. not that into being casually touched by people.

skin (color, blemishes, tattoos, ect): same as Deimos, they’re pretty pale but definitely have a bit more colour to them and a fuck ton more freckles overall but especially on their face. have a lot of scars too, even though they’re work isn’t as dangerous as Deimos’ but they do spent most of their free time doing things like mountain climbing, bungee jumping and sky diving, so they’ve collected their fair share of cuts and bruises over the years. nothing major though.

misc physical attributes: Skadi has a lot of piercings. nine in their ears. three lobes on each side, two cartilage piercings on the left and one on the right. once upon time they had a bellybutton piercing but took it out a few years back. their latest are nipple piercings.

relationship with alec & sibling (do they get along? ect.): Skadi’s relationship with alec isn’t really much to talk about. they get along alright enough, though the relationship has been strained lately because of everything with Deimos. they’re a lot closer to their mom, Freja, given their shared interests in the sciences. Skadi would die for Deimos’, is literally going to follow him across the universe. he’s their best and closest friend and Skadi takes it on themself to look out for him and protect him.

projected bff (the squad mate who isn’t bae but you always take): Skadi is generally fast friends with most people, so i imagine they’ll get along with everyone to some extent. i imagine they’ll really like fucking shit up with Drack.

dreams/hobbies/likes: Skadi’s favourite hobbies are anything that will give them an adrenaline rush. so most extreme sports. they’re also super into to plants and sports in general, both watching and playing. their dream is probably to continue their studies and get themself a phd in their field. or to make some ground-breaking discovery that would change what people knew about astrobiology or botany.

fears/dislikes: Skadi doesn’t like to sit still and really, really doesn’t like to be forced into small spaces. prefers cold weather to warm weather. a really picky eater which will probably make life in adromeda a little difficult.

other (what else should we know about your ryder?): Skadi is just, full of love. they care so much about people and want to help in anyway they can. for them, andromeda proves the perfect opportunity to do this.

For answers, we turned to four culture makers across the US—New York Nico, Kyle Ng, Joe Freshgoods, and Alex James — on how they meet the demands of staying productive in our new reality. Having grown up in Union Square and gone to school in the Village, he’s dedicated his project to capturing all the indispensable local characters who make up the quirky flavor of the ever-changing NYC. So when Covid hit the city, claiming the lives of tens of thousands and forcing countless others out of their homes, Nico immediately went to work to help save a part of the city that was vanishing before his eyes. Catapulting off of the viral success of his Instagram — which has 472k followers, attracting attention from the New York Times and celebrities like Alec Baldwin and Chloe Sevingy—Nico launched contests such as Best New York Mask, Best New York Photo, and Best New York T-Shirt, that raised nearly $300,000 for charities such as God's Love We Deliver, Color of Change, and The Campaign Against Hunger. Since the pandemic, Nico launched the #MomNPopDrop hashtag for quirky and iconic small businesses that were struggling to stay open. He started with Army & Navy Bag on Houston Street by going down to the store and taking a photo of its owner. Then for the next week or so, lines began forming outside his shop. “When I saw the response to that, I was like, holy shit. These posts are making a huge impact,” he said to Elle. For Highsnobiety, Nico photographed, as an extension of his practice, various scenes in the daily life of New York City: dog-walking in the streets, vendors, business owners. An ATV driven by a Chucky doll. All photos were shot on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, which was convenient enough to take with him for unexpected moments on the go that, with a clunkier machine, he would have missed just seconds later. And what moments these were — a testament to what keeps New York strong, the New York that he loves, which he believes will survive the pandemic.

“The best t-shirts are ones with an approach, a perspective, and a culture already around it,” he went on. Simultaneously, the t-shirt for Ng is a signal of individuality that defines itself as part of a collective and a cultural context. This year, when the Black Lives Matter protests began in Minneapolis and spread around the world, Ng had the idea of making none other than a t-shirt to both commemorate the moment, and raise money for the Movement for Black Lives. He contacted Dev Hynes of Blood Orange, and designed a shirt in two hours, putting it for sale the next day. It made $500,000. Ng did what he does best: putting the times in a graphic. Brain Dead is celebrated for immersing itself in the cultures of post-punk, skateboarding, and underground comics. Comfortable with collaborating, Ng has worked with brands such as The North Face, Levi’s, and even Shake Shack. Yet as international as his brand’s reach is, he is still attuned to LA at the local level. As a research practice, Brain Dead works with the people involved in a particular culture, which makes fashion and community organizing one and the same.
