I just did something quick (relativelly) to participate in @tolkienocweek challenge! I'm late... but then I'm always late. (And I should finish my Fëanorians - seven metals moodboards too..).
Anyway, here is my entry for Day 1: Diversity. The art in the top left corner is not mine, the author is Peter Mohrbacher.
Tumblr media
Erumorna, one of the characters in my WIP. She is the maia of the black desert, carrying the same name. We can argue she is the real main character, since she is in every scene and the story is centered around her. The name Erumorna originate in quenya, erume - desert and morna - black. The people of Harad have many other names for her, but I'm not sure about them yet. The picture by Peter Mohrbacher illustrate her non-human fana, she is rather lonely maia in no need of company, sarcastic and quick to anger, can be rather harsh and doesn't forgive easily. Yet she is fair and rightful. When she walks among the people of Harad she appears in a form of tall dark-skinned woman in white and red clothes. Other times you can meet her in the form of black oryx-like animal wandering alone.
Day 3: Gaps and Ghosts
Tumblr media
Another prominent character is Alatar Morinehtar, called Sik'tri in the language of Haradrim. Although she is known in history by male name, she isn't male. She prefer company of men and serve as midwife and funeral priestess, still working in the realm of Oromë. Bringing new life to the world and helping the dead to find the path beyond the circles of Arda. Sik'tri take part in the rebellion of free people against the forces of Sauron. I don't want to spoil anything... so I'll end it here. Bye. Next.
Day 4: Mary Sue
Well.. this is crossover and Arlette certainly fit some common tropes of Mary Sue, although I try hard to write her as interesting character. I think she has the right to be in this category simply because she fit the trope "modern girl in Middle-Earth", redhead, competent in work. She is warrior, although she carry little love for blood and she despise getting hurt. Somebody call it cowardice, Leta call it self-preservation. She is a loner, which is not a good trait in society oriented on team work. Rather arrogant and quite judgemental of people, but loyal and merciful. I tried to create her in Artbreeder, but I had problems with it, because it's very difficult to create somebody not conventionally attractive in Artbreeder. So take this as "painting by commisioned artist who made Arlette look better."

Alatar
The After-Comer
Alatar was a Maia of Osse and one of the two Ithryn Luin (Blue Wizards) along with Pallando. Alatar was the second Maia after Curumo/Curunir (Saruman) chosen to be one of the Istari and he chose to bring his friend Pallando, also a Maia of Orome, along with him. When they arrived in Middle-earth, they were sent into the east, beyond the borders of the maps that appear in Lord of the Rings, to combat the power of Sauron. It is generally believed that they were chosen because of their association with Orome, who would travel throughout Arda to hunt and was familiar with the even farthest places.
Tolkien’s perception of how successful Alatar and Pallando were changed throughout his stages of writing. In earlier drafts he envisioned them as failing, somewhat like Saruman, and instead either intentionally or unintentionally founding secret/magic cults. But later he changed this so that they were instead successful in leading some of the peoples in the east who didn’t worship Sauron to rise up against him. This is depicted as forcing Sauron to divert some of his attention and resources into the east, which helped make sure that the good peoples of the west weren’t overwhelmed by his forces. In these later drafts Tolkien gave the Blue Wizards new names, Morinhetar (Darkness Slayer) and Romestamo (East-Helper), though he doesn’t specify which name goes with which wizard.
Tolkien otherwise doesn’t write much about the Blue Wizards, so we don’t know very much about Alatar. At one point Tolkien had written Pallando as a servant of Mandos and Nienna, implying links with death and mourning, prophecy, hope, and cleansing, but he eventually changed this to make Pallando a Maia of Orome. Alatar was always associated with Orome, The Huntsman of the Valar, from the beginning. This would suggest that Alatar was probably a skilled archer, huntsman, and horseman. Since Orome is also the Lord of Forests, Alatar’s magic may have been connected to nature. The fact that the Blue Wizards are described as having cloaks of sea blue might also suggest a connection to water.

...The two who passed into the East had no names save Ithryn Luin "the Blue Wizards" (meaning of course that they had no names in the West of Middle-earth), here they are named, as Alatar and Pallando, and are associated with Oromë, though no hint is given of the reason for this relationship. It might be (though this is the merest guess) that Oromë of all Valar had the greatest knowledge of the further parts of Middle-earth, and that the Blue Wizards were destined to journey in those regions and to remain there...

PALISOR REGIONS MOODBOARDS - [XV] Lurs Vorganis
Covering much of the northeastern part of Endor's East-plain, Lurs Vorganís was the homeland of the Vorgani, a Tyran-speaking tribal confederation renowned for their ability to exploit and slaughter vast numbers of large game. Huge herds of grazing beasts lived throughout the region.
For more information about the Vorgani folk, check this post.

WIP intro: Shades of Blue and Green
Tumblr media
Title: Shades of Blue and Green
Genre: Fanfiction (Harry Potter)
Status: Outline/First Draft
Synopsis
Alatar Sauer was born to muggle parents and assumed that he knew everything about his world. Then a Hogwarts professor showed up on his doorstep on his eleventh birthday, and he was introduced to something new: the wizarding world. Coming from a background where he had every advantage in his favour, he now needs to be able to let go of what he thought he knew and adapt to a new place.
Evanora “Eva” Osborne is the most recent witch in her family to bear her name - and the curse. But she’s lived all her life with it so far, so there should be no reason as to why she can’t go to school with it too. Still, even though she takes every measure to break family traditions, it feels as though fate is forcing her into her mother’s shoes. She needs to break out, or else join the history of mistakes made by her family.
Together, this unlikely duo have to survive First Year together, make some more friends, definitely make some enemies (glares at Alatar), and maybe find their way in this world together.
They both agree that most of the Gryffindors are dicks though.

Pallando
The Far One, Darkness-Slayer, East-Helper
Pallando was a Maia of Oromë, a member of the Istari, and one of the Blue Wizards along with his friend Alatar. In Tolkien’s early drafts, he associated Pallando with Mandos and Nienna, but eventually changed this to make Pallando a Maia of Oromë, the Vala who had traveled and hunted with his retinue throughout Arda prior to the Awakening of the Elves. Because of this, Oromë had the most knowledge of the lands of Arda, including those to the east of the lands where The Lord of the Rings takes place.
When the Valar decided to send a group of Maiar disguised as old men (the Istari) to Middle-earth to help its peoples resist Sauron, the first one chosen was Curumo, a Maia Aulë of who later became known as Saruman. The second chosen was Alatar, and a reluctant but obedient Olorin (who became known in Middle-earth as Gandalf and Mithrandir) was chosen by Manwë and Varda as the third. Alatar brought his friend Pallando to Middle-earth with him, while Curumo grudgingly took Aiwendil (Radagast) with him to please Yavanna. Alatar and Pallando are sent into the lands east of Mordor that don’t appear on maps of Middle-earth to contest the will of Sauron. In early versions of Tolkien’s writings the Blue Wizards fail in their tasks, similar to Saruman, but in later writings they are successful in forcing Sauron to divide some of his attention and resources to the East, thus helping the peoples of the West win the War of the Ring. In these positive writings Tolkien gives Morinehtar (Darkness-Slayer) and Rómestámo (East-Helper) as names given to them by the peoples they interacted with, but doesn’t specify which name goes with which wizard.
Tolkien doesn’t give us much detail about Pallando and Alatar’s personalities, powers, or appearance, beyond their association with the color blue. If we at  Oromë ‘s only other named Maia, Tilion, we can guess that Pallando and Alatar were likely skilled hunters whose skills translated to battle as well. Like their Vala, they may have been associated with forests and forest creatures. Oromë also had an association with horses and was greatly revered by the people of Rohan, so they may have been skilled horsemen as well. Their dominant color of blue might indicate an additional association with water as well.
Tolkien’s earlier association of Pallando with Mandos and Nienna might give us other clues to his character. Mandos and his people were associated with prophecy, usually regarding negative events, so Pallando may have had some ability to see or predict the future. He may also have had some skill as a healer, as Nienna was associated with cleansing evil and filth due to her tears and the role they played in the plotline of the Two Trees of Valinor in The Silmarillion. Both Mandos and his sister Nienna are associated with death, so Pallando may have had an understanding of and respect for death, which would have been important since Sauron frequently capitalized on humans’ fear of death and the unknown. He may also have had some ability to communicate with the spirits of the dead. These skills in healing, prophecy, and necromancy would not only make sense because of an association with the aforementioned Valar, but also because they are skills associated with many wizard characters in the fantasy genre.
