Crono Crusade manga ending thoughts
Honestly I almost wish I could say that Chrono is not dead but considering he said like 50x to Aion in the final volume that they're on opposing sides because Aion has never cared or bothered to walk and live and emphatize with humankind and Aion himself strongly feels like Chrono's relationships with humans are a mistake and contradiction that needs correcting so Chrono can come back to him after "coming to his senses" that the human world is not where he should be and will only lead him to make the same mistakes and suffer... I find it's extremely aberrant to have Chrono implied to ditch Joshua, Azmaria and whatever descendants they had or even the former Apostle children because he apparently only cares about Rosette and doesn't value Joshua and Azmaria or his relationship to them as much that he'd seclude himself from them like that. All the probable reasons why he wouldn't live on with Joshua and Azmaria at least for a decent amount of time are either extremely cynical about humans (such as Magdalene order prosecuting Chrono and they apparently have no allies to help cover up or throw off attention), or betray that Chrono apparently learned nothing from Rosette and chooses self-isolation and entombment in his guilt *again* in response to grief. If he lived "happily" with the remaining Sinners it would prove that Aion was literally 100% accurate correct and infallible in his belief that Chrono doesn't belong with humans and would be far happier without having any relationship with any human at all. In fact, what are the implications behind Aion saying he's interested in Rosette because he's curious if she will become like what Mary was like to Chrono? Saying Chrono "made the same mistakes all over again"? So it comes off as very aberrant and even a regression of Chrono's character to me if he "chose" to hide even though Azmaria considers him a precious friend and that this would allow him and Joshua to reconcile/share each other's grief. Like, him fucking off to a random forest somewhere for a temporary nap after refusing to prolong his life the way Aion had offered him (nor is he interested in cutting his life short either - just that whatever happens will happen) and inadvertently succumbing to his injuries (he is hornless again after all) is still better to me than implicit "Oh yeah Aion was totally justified and right about Chrono after all." What was even the point of Chrono getting kicked out of Eden then? Nothing, apparently, since Aion was right all along.

It’s a godless wasteland, except for old Aion of course, keeping it real out there for us sinners.

Romans 12:1–2 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of YAHUAH’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrificed , holy and pleasing to YAHUAH —this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what YAHUAH ’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” As followers of MASHIACH, we are not to be conformed to this world’s pattern.
In Romans 12:2, Paul has a “don’t” follow by a “do.” The negative command is to not conform to the pattern of this world. As the J. B. Phillips Bible translates it, “Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould,” which is what the Greek term for “conform”—syschēmatizō—means: “to form according to a pattern or mold.”
The same term is found in only one other place in the New Testament, which is 1 Peter 1:14: “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance.”
What exactly do Paul and Peter mean by telling Followers of the Way to not conform to the world? Followers of the Way and the world are not to be “like-shaped.” That is, we should not allow ourselves to be pressed into following the corrupt customs, ungodly principles, or evil plans of action promoted by worldly men. The blessed man, according to Psalm 1:1, resists being conformed to the pattern of the world:
“Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers.”
Just as a boat is in the water, but not of the water, Followers of the Way are in the world, but not of the world. Followers of MASHIACH pattern their lives after their ADONAI (see 1 Peter 2:21), not according to the principles of the world, which the Bible says is controlled by the devil, the “elohiym of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4).
The reference to “world” is not the physical world, but rather the aion or age. The Bible says that Followers of the Way are delivered from this present evil age (Galatians 1:4), which Satan oversees and which is marked by idolatry, fleshly lusts, and rebellion. The believer lives by the powers of the age to come (Hebrews 6:5), even while residing in this world.
The key to escaping the world’s grip of conformity is the metamorphosis (rendered “transformed” in Romans 12:2) of the Believer’s mind. This is accomplished through YAHUAH’s gift of the Holy Spirit who is working to change believers’ hearts and minds from within, so that their obedience to YAHUAH might be natural and immediate (see Romans 7:6; 8:5–9; Jeremiah 31:31–34; 2 Corinthians 3:6–7; Ephesians 4:22–24).

chrono crusade for the fandom ask meme!!
THANK YOU for letting me gush about Chrono Crusade this is the best day ever!! <33
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most):
- I think Chrono and Rosette both occupy this spot?? When I first read the manga (yeeeeears ago) Chrono was like, my Number One Blorbo of All Time, but my love for Rosette has grown exponentially over the years. Plus they seem like such an inseparable pair in my brain at this point, usually if I'm thinking about one of them it's in reference to the other. My poor, poor blorbos....
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
- This is also Chrono lmfao. I wanna squish his cheeks!! He can be aggressive and scary but he never WANTS to be, he's so shy and brooding and kind and sad and I think he just needs some hugs tbh. He is a powerful inhuman entity but also needs to be protected at all costs and I am ready and willing
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
- Shader!! I could take or leave a lot of the Sinners if I'm being honest but I've always really liked Shader. She just seems like she'd be super fun to hang out with. And she's a hacker demon (?) alien (?) with cat ears like what's not to love???
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
- Elizabeth.... from that one flashback chapter.... idk I really liked her journey from antagonistic and judgmental to accepting. And when she came back at the end as Rosette's doctor...!! It really just shows how Rosette and Chrono's determination and kindness and friendship have positively shaped the people and attitudes around them. ;A; Plus I think her interactions with Rosette are funny and love the idea of them being better friends in AUs and such
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
- I know Joshua kind of sucks but I do genuinely like him, idk what it is... watching him be so carefree and innocent while he's actively destroying shit and making things worse... cuz all he wanted was to get better and be together with his sister... everyone in CC is tragic but idk my heart hurt a little anytime he was in a scene.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
- I wanna preface this with the fact that I do actually like Aion as a character, BUT!! I would love to see him at the mercy of a plinko. I just think his ego might need to be............. taken down a peg (ha!)
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
- Genai. At this point I literally don't even remember my exact reasons for hating his guts but here we are lol

Wait a minute... I read a post somewhere that said Satella and Fiore have a demon relative. Is that actually true???
Yes! This is one of those things that the manga is vague about and that lead to a small translation error, so it's easy to miss (I think I missed it on my first read), but it appears that their mother is actually a demon, and the Harvenheit sisters are half demon. This is why Chrono is a little confused when he first sees Satella using her jewels, since he's only seen demons use jewel summoning before, so he's surprised that a human knows jewel summoning.
The place where this is revealed is in Fiore's flashback right before she fights Satella in volume 7--Aion introduces himself to Florette as a "distant relative", and then when talking about the fight that broke out, he mentions that the person he was there to see was the Sinners's "superior" so he assumed that they would agree to help them. (The fan translation leaves this word as "senpai", so I think the implication is that Aion is saying they defected from demon society before the Sinners did?)
This is where the ADV translation slipped up--it uses the pronoun "he" to address the "superior" Aion was asking for help, but I've checked with a friend that's fluent in Japanese in the past and she confirmed that Aion actually addresses them with a gender-neutral term.
Satella mentions when she takes Rosette and the gang to her mansion that her father's family (the Harvenheits) are art collectors and dealers, and when her mother married her father, that's when her family started dealing in gems. Satella's mother is also who teaches Satella how to jewel summon in flashbacks. So their mother is probably the demon Aion came to see, and ended up fighting.
So to sum up what the manga seems to be saying: a female demon (name unknown) who knows how to jewel summon defects from Pandaemonium, eventually meets a man from the Harvenheit family, and starts a family with him. They have two daughters, Florette and Satella. Aion somehow finds out about "Mrs. Harvenheit", devises a plan to replace their horns with human souls trapped in jewels, and goes to her with the plan, assuming that she would happily join the Sinners. When she refuses, Aion ends up fighting her and kills the entire family except for Satella. Since the ability to jewel summon is apparently genetic, Aion hands the dying Florette over to Shader to "make useful", which leads Florette to becoming Fiore.
It's likely Florette/Fiore knew who her mother was, but Satella seems to have not been told (too young, maybe), so Satella has no idea about her heritage and blames demons for the death of her family, hating them--not even knowing that she, herself, is half-demon. (Although she may have started to put the pieces together--she notices that Pandaemonium (the ship) looks a lot like one of her summons...I think what's being implied is the creatures she's summoning are demon souls.)

Quote
The Devil is associated with flesh, the death, and this world, all of which obstruct the kingdom of God. Two Greek words have been translated as “world” in English Bibles: one is aion, used by Paul; the other is kosmos, used by John. They have similar meanings, and the Devil is called both lord of the aion and lord of the kosmos. The kingdom of the Devil, which is this world, is contrasted to the kingdom of the Lord, which is not of this world. Since the moment of original sin; the Devil has been increasing his power over this world, until now, at this latter day, his sway has become nearly complete. But now God sends Christ to break the power of the old age and to replace it with the new age, the kingdom of God.              Although the meaning of “the kingdom of God” is unclear, what is meant by “this age” or “this world” is clearer. Kosmos can mean the natural world; it can mean human society; or it can mean those people who are sinners. Aion can mean the time allotted to the material world; the material world itself; or the present, sin-ridden time as opposed to the kingdom of God to come. The Devil is lord of the natural world in his power to cause death, disease, and natural disasters; he is lord of human society because of its tendency to sin. It is in the sense of sinful human society that the terms kosmos and aion were most often used, for the New Testament emphasizes the problem of moral evil more than that of natural evil.

chrono has so much fucking empathy even before he meets mary and rosette and lives among humans. you can see it during the war how much the probably hundreds of people died because of them and their war. but that's not even what really sets him off. he's upset over the body count, but it isn't until he had a child's dead, limp body in his arms that he really loses it. he literally slaughters one hundred of the most powerful demons singlehandedly. aion, the other sinners and demons might think that chrono's empathy is what makes him weak but it's what makes him the strongest. even without his horns and using as little of his true power as possible to protect rosette's life span he is still pretty powerful in his more humanized form.

Aion, modern au style. Perhaps if he's reincarnated, or survived the battle and took a younger form, he'd start dressing in grunge fashion.
