HOLY SHIT, WHY IS THERE A DETCO REFERENCE IN MY URUSEI YATSURA??

Anyway, this reference is really funny and cute (and I think some episodes ago there was another reference but I'm not entirely sure for that one) since Detco also has a bunch of references to UY as well (this how I discovered Detco in the first place btw), so it's kind of like the UY remake is returning the favor :)

This is only one of them, there's a whole section in the UY wiki which lists most of them (which you can find here).

The gist is this:

Mitch (our Gordon-inspired protag of the story) is a 25-ish guy who hasn’t seen his friends and hasn’t been doing well for a WHILE. Mitch was followed home by an entity and is paranoid he’ll die if he leaves his apartment. He and his three friends (Mill, Tex, and Laís) decide to play a video game and chat to take their mind off of it and reconnect.

They play a Half-Life 1 inspired game entitled “Epicenter” and pick characters from the 4 unique classes they offer (soldier, security officer, CIA agent, or scientist). It is all dandy until the game starts glitching. Instead of a resonance cascade inside the game’s plot, it’s more like the entity that followed Mitch home caused a resonance cascade to the game as a whole and utterly fucks it up! Also, Mitch and his friends are transported into the game. They’re all stuck in the game with mild amnesia and tasked with getting to the end. A 5th player appears to be there too… The cast fill out the class roles they picked at the start, which forces the cast into a tense alliance as they stick together through the science facility. Through near-death experiences and one on one moments, the friends slowly piece together what happened to them and how they knew each other before shit hit the fan. They also piece together that the 5th player, Baxter, isn’t one of them… 👻 ohhh scary

The story is a WIP and I don’t intend it to be anything fancy. I just like Half-Life and I can appreciate the foundations of HLVRAI. I wanted this story to be something for me to chew on while I’m fixated on HL.

I never wrote about winning the cosplay contest at STSF (lol wild), but here's the prize certificate:

On the one hand, I (almost didn't enter and) didn't think I was going to win, but on the other hand, they kept talking about a cash prize. And ok, cash prizes have weird legal issues or whatever, but this certificate is bound only to the Creation merch tables, where they sell t-shirts and bags with AI art on them. I asked what I could use it for and the lady said "maybe" I could put it towards a photo op, but it also says no tickets, so that's still up in the air.

That night, Eugene Cordero was hanging out with us at the afterparty (lol hey Rutherford (!!!???) you're super chill) and someone mentioned I'd won the contest/I probably said something about my $500 worthless prize. So he signed it to make it worth "less"

ANYWAY, all this to say

If I can use it towards a photo op (doubtful), and there is a group Voyager cast shot (cause hello expensive and I am, how you say, not formally employed), I think it'd be hilarious to do Threshold mutant Tom Paris

It seems highly doubtful, but it's a thought that at least keeps me quite amused

#still undecided if partially transformed or fully #either way #in my mind it is the height of hilarity #but I high key doubt they'll let me put it towards a photo op #if not I'm just gonna have actors keep signing it at creation events #I am amused at the prospect #like confused and less than thrilled at the prize lets be honest #cause I don't want $500 of AI art shirts when they can't even pay an artist #and the ones that don't sell are probably going to the Atacama desert anyway #I probably could've used $500 actual dollar bucks #especially when the guy on stage keeps repeating cash prize #going to actually make the other cosplay post but this thought occurred to me #also maybe need to learn to keep my mouth shut cause was vocally criticizing the prize in earshot of creation employees lolol #there's the autism #cosplay updates #like I didn't do it for the prize I genuinely had a great time making and wearing the costume and just cosplaying in general #and I liked being on stage (lol I love public speaking) but the prize was like... ok #meanwhile my ex getting married and people in my life being full adults with responsibilities and I'm over here like #I'm unemployed and played dress up for a niche nerd ref from 30 years ago and now I have $500 I can't really use anywhere #melts into oblivion #every day is threshold day

"Thank you guys. You did great," Sun says with a smile as he gives each of the hardworking monkeys their treats. "Hope Monkey King doesn't mind that I borrowed you guys." It's safe to assume that he wouldn't.

"I think this is it." he exhales as he looks at the tables full of different kinds of food. There won't be a lot of people, but he still went a little overboard with the food. No matter, if there's still a lot of leftovers he can save them (or eat them all himself.)

The tree house isn't quiet. Thanks to the monkeys, there's a lot of noise going on just outside. He can see them, from his window, swinging on tree vines, jumping from one tree to another, chittering and chattering with each other. It really feels like home. It may not be on the mountain with his trees and his flowers and his everything else, but it's still reminding him of home just watching these monkeys enjoy their surrounding.

The sound of the clock ticking turns his attention to it and...

"Shit. I haven't gotten dressed yet." And it's only a matter of time before anyone starts showing up. He's quick to hop in the shower, get his hair fixed (the monkeys helped), and dress comfortably.

AND NOW he waits.
