@smilesrobotlover @ladye-zelda requested Abel, so here's my favorite papa in the whole wide world <3 (tagging @telemna-hyelle and @marenwithanm because it's Abel)
Zora's Domain was a beautiful and ethereal place. It was vastly different from anything Abel had seen before. His mind thought of all the different points of entry that could cause trouble, as he and his men were stationed there to protect the diplomats who had come to the domain to establish a better relationship with the Zora. His heart, however, thought of how much Tilieth would love this place.
He bit his lip and shook his head to rid his mind of the worry that started to cloud it. Tilieth's deteriorating health was entirely out of his hands. All he could do was pray and help peripherally.
Such as ensuring that Link wasn't an extra burden on Til's parents as they tended to her. Which led him to his current predicament.
Zora's Domain had many nooks and crannies for assassins to hide, many entrances for beasts to enter, and entirely too many places for a four-year-old child to go exploring.
Abel clenched his jaw a little as he continued to poke around all the glowing corners of the beautiful city. The sun had set a good while ago, and he had only just gotten out of his duties as the meeting between the diplomats had taken far longer than expected. Not to mention he had been assigned to guard them during dinner, which he had reluctantly accepted - he'd already pushed his luck bringing his little boy on such an important mission, so he wasn't going to complain at whatever task he'd been given, even if it meant watching everyone else eat when he hadn't touched a morsel of food since before sunrise, even if it meant his son was left alone in their quarters for the entire day.
He was beginning to wonder if bringing Link had been a good idea. He was also beginning to worry that something was actually wrong and he might not find his son anytime soon.
A giggle quickly alleviated that concern.
Sighing, Abel slowly peeked around a spire to see Link chasing a frog in the shallow water that flooded the majority of the city. The little one was barefoot, his pants soaked at the ankles, his hair a mess, and he was crouched over in intense concentration at catching the amphibian.
"Link," Abel said softly, making his son jump. "I told you to stay in our room."
It was an unreasonable request and he knew it. The child was four. He couldn't expect him to stay in their room all day. But he hadn't expected to be away from before sunrise to after sunset.
Idiot, he scolded himself. There was no way he was going to make this work, but he had to make this work.
"Papa!" the child yelled in delight, running towards Abel and hugging him tightly. The knight sighed, crouching down to hold his boy, feeling wretched as he heard the child sniffle.
"Papa I didn't know where you were and I tried to stay but I missed you," Link said, his voice muffled in his father's uniform.
"Oh, Link," Abel sighed, kissing his boy's head. "My duty kept me busy. I'm sorry. But doing our duty is very important."
"But I missed you."
Abel hugged him tighter. "I missed you too."
The pair was quiet a moment as Link's sniffles subsided, and then the child pulled away excitedly. "This place is so big! And I wanted to find you, and then I saw all the stuff, and then there were lots and lots of people, and then there was a frog, and then another frog--"
"Yes, there are lots of frogs here," Abel interrupted good naturedly, directing Link towards the main plaza so they could make their way to their quarters.
"But look, I can catch them!" Link insisted, laying eyes on yet another victim. He crept relatively quietly for a child, though his feet sloshed clumsily in the water. When he lunged for the frog, he put his entire body into the maneuver, slamming nearly headfirst into the ground.
Abel rushed to the child quickly and saw that while Link had earned himself a scrape, he was no less excited about his adventure. The knight sighed in exasperation. "There are better ways to hunt things, Link. Ways that don't involve almost giving yourself a concussion."
"What's a conshion?"
"Concussion. It's when you hurt your head."
"My head's okay!" Link insisted with a high pitched chirp and a smile.
Abel's tiredness pulled at him, but the boy's shining face burned it away. He crouched down so he was at eye level with the child. "Well. You still need to learn how to hunt better."
With that, the knight playfully grabbed his son and rolled around with him on the watery floor. Link let out a squeal that echoed in the air, unnoticed by both participants as Abel wrestled with the child, blowing a raspberry on his belly. Link giggled, wiggling like a little worm, too breathless to protest but trying to do so anyway as his father started tickling him.
Footsteps shifted in the water, and Abel's laughter and cheerfulness subsided as he noticed a shadow move in the distance. Glancing up, he saw a small Zora watching them, half hidden behind a pillar. Abel caught his breath, pulling Link into his lap as he watched the Zora child. "Hello, little one. Aren't you out late? Where are your parents?"
He heard chuckling above her, and he belatedly registered with terrifying realization that she was not, in fact, hiding behind a pillar.
Looking up, Abel saw himself staring at the king of the Zora.
Spluttering, he hastily shot to his feet, Link tucked into his right arm (and somehow he was upside down now, laughing the entire time), thought better of the gesture, and genuflected instead as he would for his own king. He knew his cheeks were flaming red, he could feel them burning despite being soaked from head to toe after rolling around with his son.
"Your Majesty," he acknowledged shakily.
"You may rise, Knight of Hyrule."
Taking a steadying breath, Abel slowly straightened out, adjusting Link in his grip. His boy was still in a playful mood, so excited he tried to squirm out of the anxious knight's grip entirely, and Abel had to gasp, catch his son as he fell, and reorient him to hold him tightly in his arms.
"I noticed you had a child with you in your party," the king commented. Abel didn't dare speak, so the monarch continued, "I take it he is yours?"
"Yes, Your Majesty," Abel answered, keeping his eyes downcast. It would probably strain his neck to look up at the king's face anyway; the man was nearly twice Abel's height. It was honestly a little overwhelming how tall these Zora were. Rumor had it that the royal Zora grew to be enormous, though currently King Dorephan was only slightly taller than his subjects.
"My daughter, Mipha, noticed him too," the king said, and Abel saw him motion to the little Zora girl behind him.
Ah. So that was the princess. Great. Abel had talked to her like she was a normal child. He sincerely hoped he hadn't offended the king, damn it all, I came here for a diplomatic mission and have already made it impossible for Link and now I've ruined--
"She wanted to say hello," King Dorephan continued. "She heard you two out here."
"I-I'm terribly sorry for the noise, Your Majesty, we--"
"Nonsense, it's perfectly all right!" King Dorephan interrupted with a laugh. "Would it be acceptable for her to meet your son? She's never seen a Hylian child before."
Abel blinked, finally looking up at the king to see him smiling down at him. He... what?
Well... okay then.
"Of course," Abel answered. It wasn't like he had a choice in the matter - the last thing he wanted to do was offend the king. Besides... maybe...
He couldn't expect Link to befriend a princess. But... at least the boy could meet another child.
Slowly, Abel lowered Link to the ground as the king gently guided his daughter into the plaza. The princess approached slowly, hands clasped nervously in front of her.
"Hello," she said quietly, looking at Link.
"Hi!" Link said cheerily. "You look funny."
Abel choked on his spit. Goddess Hylia above, just kill me now, just put me out of my misery.
"Oh," Princess Mipha said, a little taken aback. "Well... I... you look... oh! You're hurt!"
Abel looked down at Link automatically and then remembered the scrape the boy had gotten. The princess approaced his son quickly, and Link watched her curiously as she hesitantly reached her hand towards his face. Abel felt his hackles raise a little - he wasn't sure about Zora culture, but physical touch was not condoned between strangers. They were children, but he still didn't like it.
Suddenly, the princess' hand started glowing. Abel's eyes widened, alarmed, as he watched her touch Link's chin. His son watched her in wonder, eyes wide.
There was a brief moment where she paused with her hand aglow and a strange, gentle hum reverberated through the air, and then she pulled away with a little smile.
"All better," she said, taking a step back. Abel looked at his son once more and saw that the boy's scrape was gone. Link's hand went to his face, tracing along his chin, and he gasped.
"Papa! Papa my ouchie's gone! Papa look!" he announced, grabbing Abel's trousers and tugging at them as if his father hadn't seen what had just happened.
The knight glanced uncertainly between his son, the princess, and the king, uneasily going down to one knee to placate his child.
"My daughter has healing magic," King Dorephan explained with a proud smile. "It's a rare and treasured gift among my people."
Abel held Link, letting his boy excitedly bounce and talk to him about his newly healed scrape, his eyes never leaving the king. Then he looked at his boy's glowing face, his own hand tracing his chin, and he whispered, "A gift indeed."
He should probably thank the princess. He definitely should thank her. Even if she'd been a normal child he should thank her. He looked up and noticed that she had retreated to her father, a shy smile playing at her lips.
"It's getting late," the king remarked. "But... if you like, I'm certain the children of the Domain would love to get to know your son. You should bring him with you in the morning. My attendants can help look after him."
Abel struggled to catch his breath. "Your Majesty, I could never ask for such a favor--"
"It isn't a bother at all, Sir...?"
"A-Abel, Your Majesty. Sir Abel. And this is Link."
"Sir Abel," King Dorephan said, his gentle smile returning. "Princess Mipha and I would be happy to see both you and Link in the morning."
With that, the king bade them a good night and guided his little daughter up the stairs towards the palace. Abel shuddered, the tension leaving him as he collapsed onto the ground, Link on his lap.
"Papa, she made it go away!" Link announced again, tapping Abel's face to get his attention. "It felt funny."
The knight huffed a tired, weak laugh, kissing Link on the nose. "Did it? I imagine so. Come on, Link. We both need to sleep."
His son thankfully didn't protest, and the pair made their way to the area set aside for the Hylian delegation. Abel nearly passed out before he'd even gotten to the bed, the encounter having sapped the last of his energy. Link snuggled in beside him, and Abel tucked him in and rested his chin over the child's head as he uncertainly drifted off to sleep.
By the goddess, Link, you're going to be the death of me.

Writerly Thought Exercise: How I'd Edit "The Sandman"
The other day I made a post about how I'd love to clean up some flaws in The Sandman story that I believe are owed to Gaiman's relative inexperience when the story was first written, specifically some little tweaks I'd make to the Sandman (TV) story if it were mine. These would not necessarily make the story better, sometimes cleaning up a story is just sanding off the rough edges that make it interesting, but I wanted to take a moment to articulate some structural changes I'd make were it my story (fwiw)
1:
Establish that Dream was unequivocally a good ruler before he was captured, but he was also a control freak. This flaw was forgivable since Dream held himself to the same rigorous standards he held everyone, but it made him inflexible, and gained him enemies like Desire. However, as axiomatic as he was, Dream was an indisputably benevolent ruler who would never harm his own subjects. As it is in the show, this is implied but often contradicted by the actions Dream takes on-screen. Canonically, Dream shows many moments of poor leadership and casual cruelty that undermine the idea that his subjects were loyal to him out of love rather than fear. I personally believe the causal chain of Dream's emotional arc would be stronger if it was clear that he was a good ruler before his imprisonment, but Burgess's torment made him go dark. What this changes: When Dream unmakes Gregory, we get mixed signals about how typical this sort of action was for him. My edit would be to have this moment as completely unprecedented for the Dream his subjects knew. This would better explain why Cain, Abel, and Lucienne are shocked into paralysis by his actions when he kills a beloved member of their community. If Dream's been nothing but a good, generous, but inflexible king before this, then they'd be held back by the fact the Dream they knew would never do something like this if it wasn't absolutely life or death necessary. But here's the thing, after being imprisoned for over 100 years, Dream is deeply traumatized, erratic, and lashing out while trying to keep a veneer of his old self-control. This isn't the Dream they knew. Related story changes: - Nada isn't imprisoned because she rejected him, but because she broke an old law that Dream would have held himself to as well had their positions been reversed. - Dream's humiliation of Lucifer is also out of character for who he used to be. The old Dream would have been wise enough not to toy with such a powerful being. The new Dream is grasping after lost control, not realizing he's acting erratically because of his trauma. He just wants to feel powerful again against someone. He just chooses the worst, most dangerous, self-destructive target for this need to lash out. His subjects are once again caught off guard by this erratic behavior, but begin to realize they might need to intervene before things get worse.
2:
No one magical could see or hear Dream inside of Burgess's prison, including Jessamy and Death herself - what this means is that Dream did call for help, but his cries never escaped his prison. When Jessamy attacked his prison, it's because she was convinced he was in there, but she couldn't see him. Hence why she didn't speak to him when she got there. Death, when she came to collect Jessamy, couldn't see him either nor could he see her. His other subjects have searched Burgess's house and found no trace of Dream. Since Jessamy was with him though when he was captured, she is the last holdout who refuses to believe he was moved from this location. What this changes: Dream is no longer too proud to call for help, but calling for help didn't work. One inherent contradiction in the story as it is canonically is that Dream would call out damage to himself as "hurting the dreamers" and yet not do everything necessary to help the dreamers himself in another scene, when the only apparent thing holding him back is his pride. This makes him a bit of an unforgivable asshole (which can be interesting, I don't think all these changes are guaranteed improvements) and it undermines later claims that he is or ever has been a good ruler. Related story changes: Dream's trauma is deepened. He was truly alone and had no control over his situation, rather than that he could have escaped if he'd just gotten over his pride at asking for help. His story is a survivor's story, this centers that fact for the show. Dream is a person who once thought himself powerful, untouchable, who has to come to grips not only with his trauma but also that he was helpless to prevent his trauma. That something bad happened to him that irrevocably hurt and changed him from the person he was. And when he first gets back to the Dreaming he is unwilling to admit this. The trauma leads him to him unmake Gregory in a desperate bid to regain a scrap of his old identity and control as quickly as possible, even if it means long-term danger to himself (getting the Fates involved) and patience would have been a safer route. His actions are not just implied to be a red flag, but fully signaled as such, in the story, by those who love him saying that this out of character for the ruler they once knew. As it is, Dream's past behavior as an asshole undermines moments that would support this reading. Also: we no longer need to question if Death is a good sister or not, or if Dream's subjects are incompetent. If the summoning circle that was intended to bind Death also keeps even Death from seeing that Dream is captured, Dream's isolation is absolute and we don't have to come up with complicated meta reasons why no one helped him (or if they were just jerks for not doing so, or if he was a jerk for being too proud to ask for help, etc etc).
3:
The Dreaming is tied to Dream's mood, not his presence or absence - When Dream says that Roderick and then Alex Burgess are causing damage to their world, it's not because Dream was kept from his realm. The idea that his absence hurts the Dreaming creates a plothole where we must wonder why then he would ever leave it; unless he's a bad ruler willing to risk the world just so he can go out sometimes. But if capturing and torturing Dream impacts his realm (effectively making him resonate with another mythological figure, the Fisher King) then he's not being petulant when he is furious with them for hurting him. He is furious on behalf of his subjects. It means his subjects can be terrified for him, knowing something awful is happening when they watch the realm crumble around them, knowing it means Dream is suffering, but they are unable to find or help him. Instead of Dream's realm crumbling just because he's not there to do maintenance, it becomes a metaphor for the loss of his self-control, of his old self, under the relentlessness of his torment. Even the strongest of us can break. It also makes the healing metaphor stronger. Dream doesn't just fix up the house like a handyman, he fixes up his realm by finding peace and healing, becoming a better person towards his loved ones.
4:
Nightmares and Dreams are incapable of walking in the real world on their own. Desire released the Corinthian. It was not random chance. (This might be canonical to the comic, I don't remember it's been years since I read it.) This sets up a clear causal chain: Desire released the Corinthian so Dream would go to the real world, where Desire's trap would spring as Burgess cast the ritual and imprisoned Dream. This is all part of Desire's plan for revenge. Dream, being inflexible, often thwarts Desire, and finally, Desire had enough. (Heck, perhaps it was Dream's imprisonment of Nada that set all of this off in the first place, then at least the punishment would fit the crime.) What this changes: Lucienne's "presentament" that something bad could happen to Dream if he leaves his realm is no longer random clunky foreshadowing, but very well informed. If Nightmares like the Corinthian can't leave, then something feels deeply wrong if one does escape. Her instincts are correct: this is a trap. However, Dream can't delegate recapturing the Corinthian, because as their creator and because he is a good ruler, he wouldn't entrust this task to anyone else, because it would be dangerous to them but not to him. He too can suspect something suspicious is going on, but as a control freak feel he is the only one capable of handling the situation. Then, when he is captured, the tension would skyrocket because it was a trap and it becomes clear that all of these events were put into place by an unseen, powerful puppet master. No one, including Dream or Lucienne, would be laboring under the impression that this is all random chance. They'd be anxious to figure out where the vendetta is coming from starting from the beginning of the story. Other changes: Desire is the one who tells Burgess how to lock up Dream, not the Corinthian. This cleans up the causal chain and gives the audience an early glimpse of who is really pulling the strings. Desire also makes more sense as the being that would know how and where to find Burgess: He is ruled by his desire to resurrect his son Randall. That would make him a beacon to someone like Desire.
Basically, I find the idea of Dream's arc being around trauma and healing to be one of the most resonating aspects of the story. I'd want to bring that into sharper focus by giving Dream more of an arc, and the above tweaks are where I'd begin.

Hi! I was that corinthiel anon from before and i since i got your permission here are some headcanons i have for them:
Theirs is a long slow burn/office romance/psychological horror/fantasy epic that takes many mini get togethers/break ups and self discoveries until they an official couple
Early on in Danny’s reign, he isn’t quite accustomed to his powers and thus many hijinks/misadventures ensue. Also he pushes himself too hard and can fall into this ‘torpor-like’ state where he passes out and becomes mostly unresponsive to regain energy. The first time it happens Cori panics and refuses to let anyone else carry him back to the castle to recover, growling at anyone who comes close. The Dreaming as a whole still works, but everything ‘slows’ down and dreamkin feel kinda tired themselves.
Tons of roleplay in their more sensual scenarios, letting them both play out narratives that suit their respective fantasies and kinks.
I have tons others but I’ve clogged your asks enough right now, ahah. Of course I’d love to hear if you have anything else to add or your own headcanons!
@pickurpoisons-blog These hc are so good I want to devour them!!!
I especially adore this one
He pushes himself too hard and can fall into this ‘torpor-like’ state where he passes out and becomes mostly unresponsive to regain energy. The first time it happens Cori panics and refuses to let anyone else carry him back to the castle to recover, growling at anyone who comes close. The Dreaming as a whole still works, but everything ‘slows’ down and dreamkin feel kinda tired themselves.
It's so beautiful and has something almost fairytale-like to imagine the Corinthian watching over Daniel's body as he recovers his strength. The Dreaming is covered in snow, and it's cold, but not a cruel cold: it's a gentle winter that happens whenever this torpor descends on the King of Dreams. Yes, everything is slower and sleepy: Mervyn naps in a corner of the throne room instead of putting up the curtains, Lucien has to resort to his special supply of black tea to stay awake, Cain is too sleepy to inflict the punishment that Abel deserves, and Matthew plays with other ravens with snowflakes. Only the Corinthian remains alert and awake, in the farthest and most inaccessible room of the palace, and to make his Lord's rest even safer he creates a complicated tangle of corridors and rooms, and access to Dream's private chambers becomes a labyrinth of which the Nightmare alone knows the right way. No one can approach Daniel, unless the Corinthian wants to. Every time he awaits his King's awakening and does not let even light disturb his rest: silently, he gently brush Daniel's cheek with his fingers, in a caress more delicate and discreet than a whisper. In the absolute darkness of the room, the body of his beloved appears to the Corinthian as white and precious as a pearl....
....but I also imagine a more funny situation, where Daniel suddenly falls asleep in the most inaccessible and dangerous places of the kingdom, and the Corinthian punctually has to go and retrieve him amidst a thousand difficulties :D
* Cori in the middle of a nightmare, gutting a poor dreamer *
Matthew: Boss is asleep again! The Corinthian: the fu…where this time?! Matthew: in the Box of Nightmares
* unspeakable curses and swearing as he runs off to retrieve his Dream *
The first time it happens Cori panics and refuses to let anyone else carry him back to the castle to recover, growling at anyone who comes close.
Cori bringing Daniel in bridal style to the palace? You made my Monday radiant <3 One of my most cherished fantasies is to imagine:
the Corinthian carrying Daniel in bridal style, both handsome and elegant as in a Pre-Raphaelite painting or Daniel carrying the Corinthian in bridal style, both in their gigerian nightmare form (still beautiful and elegant....in their own way :D)
Tons of roleplay in their more sensual scenarios, letting them both play out narratives that suit their respective fantasies and kinks.
Ohohoh, we're on the same page! One of my favorite hc's is that often in their intimacy they both like to 'pretend' to be human and that playing 'being human' is one of the things that they enjoy the most: Daniel specially creates eyes for the Corinthian for the sensual and perverse pleasure of extracting and devouring them, just as his lover taught him (which excites the Corinthian terribly, by the way). I am working on a story about this, I hope to finish soon ^^
Another thing that excites both is when between the two of them it's only Daniel who pretends to be human, almost as if they both take pleasure in a sort of reversal of roles in which it's the Corinthian, as a Nightmare, who has more power and therefore Daniel, as a 'human', finds himself at the absolute mercy of his lover. The Corinthian savors the pleasure of having total control, Daniel the pleasure of having none.
Theirs is a long slow burn/office romance/psychological horror/fantasy epic that takes many mini get togethers/break ups and self discoveries until they an official couple
Ahhh!!! but now I'm curious: how do you think it all started? :)

REASONS TO LOVE Netflix’ The Sandman series
WARNING!!!  If you haven’t watched it (particularly if you haven’t read the graphic novels, although it’s not essential for enjoying it) there are potentially some serious spoilers coming up here, so be warned ...
...
...
Neil Gaiman basically shepherded the whole thing in, so this is VERY MUCH EXACTLY what he always intended a Sandman series to be.  Long may he remain on the show, because this is about as perfect as a TV series can get, especially an adaptation of SUCH A BELOVED PROPERTY as this ...
Tom Sturridge is PEAK casting genius.  Not only is he spectacularly spot-on with Dream’s speech and mannerisms, but he just LOOKS like the character stepped right out of the comic pages.
But I also love how, while the series IS about the Dream King himself, he’s not necessarily the main, DOMINANT character here.  Sure, in the first half of the season (essentially adapting volume one, Preludes & Nocturnes) it’s very much about his imprisonment, escape and the subsequent battle for him to regain his powers and kingdom, but EVEN HERE there are times he’s more like a supporting player in his own story, letting other characters into the spotlight, especially in the second half when the show adapts volume two (The Doll’s House), when it becomes far more about Rose Walker ...
Speaking of which, Rose is FANTASTIC.  Kyo Ra is a sweetheart and her Rose is adorable and lovely and just the purest cinnamon roll and must be protected at all costs.
Matthew the Raven.  OMG Patton Oswalt.  I knew right away he was gonna be great in this but he surapassed all my expectations as one of my very favourite characters.
The relationship between Dream and Lucienne is PERFECT.  She respects her boss immensely but is not prepared to put up with his shit for a MICROSECOND, and if that means letting him dangle to prove a point she’s gonna do it.
So what if John Constantine is genderbent?  Jernna Coleman’s always AWESOME and she just GOT the character.
Episode 6, The Sound of Her Wings.  Sweet mercy that is a PERFECT HOUR of television right there, completely flawless.  In a season that’s already pretty legendary in its faithfulness, this note-perfect transplant of Gaimain’s flawless writing is a solid gold JOY to experience.
Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death ... OH MY GOD.  My girl was brought to life with flawless perfection, I’m a happy puppy after this.
The Corinthian.  Boyd Holbrook’s another example of perfect casting here, and the rogue nightmare is a PERFECT Big Bad for this first season ...
Lucifer ... yeah, I love Tom Ellis in the show as much as anybody, but Gwendoline Christie is GOLD.  She just GOT the role, clearly.
The duel in hell is AWESOME.  Perfectly done.
Merv Pumpkinhead!  Mark Hammil ladies and gentlemen!  The man can do no wrong.
The Diner Experiment in Episode 5 gave me CHILLS.  That was as close to the perfect nightmare that scenario could have gone, but thankfully without going QUITE as far as it did in the comic.  THAT might have been a bit TOO MUCH.
While we’re there, David Thewlis’ John Burgess is a fantastically complicated and enjoyably HUMAN supervillain, and you’re never quite sure if he’s ENTIRELY WRONG, which worries me greatly.  As it should ...
Also Charles Dance once again proves he’s incapable of delivering a bad performance.
Cain and Abel are a darkly comic delight.
Stephen Fry as Gilbert!  YAY!!  Love that man in everything, he was born to play Fiddler’s Green in human form.
I loved how they got the motley collection of misfits in the Cape Kennedy B&B absolutely right.  Hal, Barbie and Ken, Chantal and Zelda, I love you all, you’re adorable.
Yay!  Martin Tenbones!  Looking forward to seeing him again when they do A Game of You in one of the later seasons.
The “Cereal” Convention.  Haliariously funny in a jet black way guaranteed to get your skin crawling too ...
Desire and Despair.  Sure, they’re only in this a little bit, but like Death I’m looking forward to seeing more of them in the future, they’re both spot-on.
The Gault and the way she protects Jed despite being a nightmare, that’s so wonderful.  I love the idea that a constructed creature can try to be something other than it was intended to be, just like the rest of us.  Gaiman is so spectacularly deep.  And then we get that beautiful payoff at the end of the season where Dream’s learned his lesson and lets her change for the better ...
This whole season is just pitch-perfect in the visual effects and the sound and the music and the design and the wayit’s shot and cut.  It’s a feast for the eyes and I’m glad Netflix were willing to spend the money to let Neil realise his vision without restraint.
Netflix, this is PERFECT.  Give us a full series, let Neil do the entire story through to the end, no matter if it takes more than your holy three seasons to do it.  This is TOO GOOD for you to NOT let him do it ...

Matthias is such a well written character- kudos for the compelling backstories and generally amazing story!! This game is absolutely addictive!
There’s something about the juxtaposition of Lincoln’s obvious anger with Matthias, while knows everything he did for Abel (and mc’s own complicated feelings) that utterly fascinates me
why thank you so much! I find him to be an extremely interesting character as well, and his dysfunctional relationship with Lincoln is very intriguing to me as well. McQuoid family drama my beloved... as long as rowan stays out of it if yknow what i mean 👁

Yeah. Like I watched seven episodes the first day (so six after I initially sent you the message) and finished it the next. Like I wanted to get to Lawless’ episodes because I just wanted to know what he sounded like and then the episode ended with a small bit of him and I just needed to watch a bit more but after episode 7 I knew I could take a break. I just couldn’t stop because of how much I loved it  and wanted to see what would happen next. I see. I might be wrong here since I still haven’t touched the manga and have only watched the movie today but from what I saw on the wiki and in the movie, it seems like the movie takes place after the events of the 12th episode but covers events that happened before the Greed pair appeared (like it literally says it covers those events on the wiki so I’ll see for myself at some point). So it’s a bit different. But either way it was a really good movie and I definitely enjoyed it and hope you do as well. And that’s totally cool. Like I also took days to respond last time because I wasn’t able to find the time before then. And I sent so many messages this time, with sure some images but it’s still *a lot*. And thank you for saying that 😊 It also takes me really long so don’t feel bad  about it or anything. Take all the time you need.
I love how you’re surprised by Lawless since for me loving him just made sense. Me too when it comes down to Mikuni. Like the movie revealed some stuff about his past and even though it answered some things, I’m still really intrigued about him and just want to see his full life and how he got Abel. No. For a change you’re absolutely wrong. It’s Lawless’s constantly caring and protective side even though I know he doesn’t always say the best things (and can be quite merciless at times). Also like, he’s the only one who disagreed with all of his siblings about that thing in the past after the vote had been then so it shows how good his heart is. Licht is just not my kind of guy and he’s just far too aggressive towards Lawless at times for my liking. Like even if Lawless wasn’t one of my faves, I’d still think that. But I do really like their song. And yeah. Like I loved his voice first and then him. Which was a bit unfair but it is what it is. I love that the opening is so inspirational to you.
I think the anime might’ve gotten ahead in some ways but yeah, I’ll see. And it’s nice to hear that the manga is just as enjoyable. I don’t know when I’ll get to it, maybe in a few weeks or so, but I’ll definitely let you know then.
Thank you so much for the last bit of your message as well.
Also, on an entirely different note I wanted to check your fandom list to see whether there were any other anime I might liked and went to look up ‘Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun’ since that’s one of the first ones on your list. Upon seeing the poster and images, I was like “Too colourful for me” but I still scrolled down to see which voice actors it has and Lawless’s voice actor voices a main character (Alice Asmodeus) so I’ll probably also try to check that out and some point. Not only that but Hugh’s voice actor (who does Hinata in Haikyuu!!) is the main main character so yeah, no chance of resisting that.
C
So, because I don't know if C is actively keeping track on the replies, and to kind of group everything into one post to make it easier for them to read it, I'm going to group the replies on the post, the ones that came via inbox, and this reply to them into one big post! I hope nobody minds and that it all makes sense to read!
So, to start replying to C! I'm so glad you enjoyed the anime enough to speed through it like that. I love also that wanting to hear a particular voice actor in their part made you so excited for the upcoming episodes and I really enjoy how much voice actors work means to you, how you have all these favourite voice actors and really recognize and respect their hard work in bringing these beloved characters to the screen or their work in making these characters so beloved. I know there are active fandoms out there for particular voice actors, but I still always feel like they're a little underloved and not as recognized as they should be within fandom as a whole, so your excitement and love for them is great to see. As more of a manga reader myself, like I've said, I honestly don't know a lot of the voice actors as well as you do, but even I have my favourites (just as I have my favourite podcasters, because their voices soothe me and make me feel comforted). And I will definitely look forward to watching the movie then and am glad you enjoyed it!
And thank you, as always, my dear, for being so chill and patient when it comes to me taking a bit to reply to our messages. It's very appreciated, and please don't worry about taking your time to reply last time too, I knew you were celebrating with family and busy with holidays and really was surprised with how quick you had replied, considering it was the holiday season and I knew you had family around (and while I'll talk about it in our messages, really hope the trip was super fantastic).
And I was surprised! I love the fact that you surprise me, even as well as we've gotten to know each other. And I will guarantee that the manga goes more into Mikuni and Abel and it's really lovely (and some beautiful manga panels just artistically speaking, just giving my opinion here). And see, I think that might be another way the anime really differed from the manga, in reagards to the vote, because there were multiple siblings in the manga for sure who had been against it. And that is interesting to read, your views and interpretations of both Licht and Lawless so thank you so much for sharing that! It was a great read!
Lastly, before we get into the other messages and really getting into what thoughts people had on Servamp anime versus Servamp manga, I'm going to answer C properly on her last paragraph. Again, I'm trash with recognizing different voices (and do watch Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun dubbed, sue me, it's easier to do as I often sit and do my embroidery with the episodes) so I hadn't realized they shared a voice! Or that Hugh was also Hinata! That was cool to learn. I will say I love Alice and definitely think you'll enjoy him if you do end up trying Iruma-kun, though I'm actually making a pretty solid bet that he won't end up being your absolute favourite, even with the voice being an actor you love! Just not enough in common with your normal favourites, and I do think at least one of the staff will be among your favourites lists. I do see your 'very colourful' comments on Iruma-kun, but honestly, it's one of the more recent anime/mangas that really remind me of the classic Big 3 (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece) that were huge throughout the time I was coming into fandom proper and even being new, it has this great nostalgic vibe to me probably because of that. I would really recommend it to anyone who loves any of those.
Now into the actual comments and views on the manga versus anime for Servamp! Like I said, I don't know if C saw these on the actual post, so just reposting them here to make sure they do!
Tumblr media
And this one came through the ask box!
Tumblr media
I think I'm realizing that I'm actually probably really lenient on what I consider a good adaptation, haha, but maybe that's because I've suffered through some really terrible adaptions (2016 Berserk, which remains one of the worst I've ever seen, Deadman Wonderland's anime adaption which turned a largely horror based manga to kind of straight shounen, Bleach where the anime was at least a good 40% filler and which really did water down a lot of the battles, the dub of Ghost Stories which like…it's so bad it's funny and I honestly do feel bad for anyone who wanted and still wants a good dub of that, the Junji Ito anime collection which was doomed from the beginning because I really don't think there's a good way to properly translate Ito from page to screen, the way Soul Eater ended makes it to me a horrible adaption because fuck that ending, Saiyuki in a way because even though I do love the anime I'll admit it severely watered down a lot of things and did censor a lot to make it suitable for broadcast, the reminder that the 4kids dub of One Piece exists, Eyeshield 21's anime). So maybe I have been too forgiving because the general consensus does really seem to be that the manga and anime diverged greatly and that the best bet is to read the manga from the beginning to really get the full story. And, since I admit to being mostly manga now on that, though I do enjoy watching the anime every now and then, I do get and appreciate everyone's views on that! Thank you so much for everyone who chimed in on that, and I'll ask C, if they start the manga and decide to read it through, to let me know through ask box so all those fans who took the time to weigh in can know how C likes it and if they agree on the manga versus anime!

bracken i hardly go there re: gomens but i’m so excited for the aro crowley fic <333 srsly so awesome can’t wait to readdd
literally my influence (has said absolutely nothing about the content of the fic except to declare that i'm losing my mind)
no it's gonna be so good though. gonna be my pride and joy. my doctoral thesis in fandom. all the excatholic girlies are gonna be obsessed with it all the aspec good omens fans are gonna be delighted. i'll start posting excerpts on here at some point and not just dming them to people haha. just for you <3
genuinely though so funny how i went "yeah quick fic! he's so aro haha" and wrote a little vignette about his plan with the rain and now i've covered adam and eve and cain and abel and gender roles within romance (<— barely scraped the surface so far. much more yet to say) and transgenderism in shakespeare and the difference between the way that god loves and the way that humans love and an angel's implicit capacity (or lack thereof) to love and what the central conflict and nature of aziraphale and crowley's relationship really is and i haven't even talked about them as nanny ashtoreth and brother francis yet. which. talk about gender roles.
anywayyyyy it's 5k already. so. only up from here <3
little excerpt for you my darling my dear my most beloved:
“Do you think we’re capable of love, Angel?” he asks Aziraphale, on another of his ill-advised nights. The alcohol makes a good excuse for nights like these. “Not just you and me, but all the angels, and the ones who…” he waves a nonspecific hand. “Were. Before.”  “Demons, you mean?” Aziraphale has an uneasy tilt to his words.  “That. God loves, and humans love, but… were… we? Built for that?” And he’s edging too close to the things they don’t talk about, asking questions like these. Calling them a we. He’s practically got a foot over their unspoken wall already. He redirects as best he can. “Do you think you have love?”  Aziraphale looks at him oddly, and a strange aspect comes over his expression, a wash of pity that immediately has Crowley tense and edging away. He doesn’t like being pitied. Doesn’t think it’s good for him. Aziraphale looks at him, pitying, perplexed, and asks, “Do you think you might have lost it?”  Crowley presses his mouth closed, as if his jaw were a snake’s again and his tongue a mouse, and sobers up. He stands. He leaves. They don’t see each other again for a good while.
He can’t explain why he’s feeling… scratch that. Scratch it out completely, with claws and teeth and black ink and whatever might suffice. He can’t explain what he’s feeling. Something roils around in his brain at that thought: that maybe he had a love before, something like God’s, or the humans’, or something entirely different, and he lost it as he fell.  He practically falls in front of a mirror, splaying his hands on either side of it to keep him upright, and he can’t tell if the image in front of him is swirling and swaying because his form has once again taken on the state of his mind, or because there’s something like moisture in his eyes.  Not tears. He wipes them savagely on his sleeves. He throws an empty clay pot at the wall. The shatter is satisfying, but it doesn’t stop the feeling that’s clawing around the edges of his chest and squeezing at everything inside it. It’s the feeling that’s unbearable. He can’t stand feeling. Things are so much easier when he doesn’t.  And, the feeling whispers, traitorous and echoing sinister in his ears, sounding like his own snake-voice, is it easier if you don’t feel love? Have you driven off this feeling, too?

Skyrim music always is my go to for relaxing.
The world was hidden in a curtain of grey and white. The sound of heavy rainfall echoed in the air, water pelting his skin as he sat on slick stone. Whether it served to bring him to reality or help hide him from it was another matter, but his mind was certainly lost to the white noise.
Abel stared tiredly ahead. The rain brought life to Hyrule, promises of renewal to a land scorched by evil. He hadn’t thought much of it in the past. There was nothing to be renewed for him. He’s lost nearly all he knew and loved, and he’d tried desperately to hide what remained from the malice that had claimed everyone else.
Lyra never listened though.
Every raindrop felt like a bite, promises of renewal felt like a cruel joke.
Tilieth had always loved the rain. Link had never been a huge fan of it.
“Sir Abel?”
He barely heard the words. It wasn’t until the fourth call, with a gentle hand on his shoulder, that he turned. The Lurelin teenager looked back at him, eyes worried.
“She’s going to be okay,” the swordsman said earnestly. “The healers even said it.”
The rain was deafening. He didn’t register the words. He still saw his boy, bleeding and broken, skin charred, bone exposed, all washed away in the torrential downpour as golden light shone from the castle.
“Sir Abel?”
Ice hovered near him, it seemed. His right side was freezing. The swordsman, on his left, looked behind him as if asking someone something, but no one else was there.
She’s going to be ok, the wind seemed to whisper.
“We’ll destroy it,” the new Hero assured Abel. “I promise… we’ll get it right this time.”
Abel came to life in an instant, eyes sharp as he glared at the boy. “No.”
The boy flinched despite how quietly the command was spoken. It held such strength and bite to it, he might as well have screamed it.
No one else was going to get hurt. He would face the Divine Beast alone.

finally watching the Sandman wehehehahhehehehhuhuhhu
so far I get the idea that they’re doing as well as they did w Umbrella Academy
giving the characters more humanity and depth while keeping what made them great
Episode 1 review : love what the did w the Corinthian, really excited to see how it’s going to go w him, very much loving what they did w the old man and his son whom I already forgot the names of it was a little boring in the comics but I could genuinely watch an entire season of them, absolutely LOVE what they did w Lucien like not to be homosexual on main but oh my god Lucienne my beloved, we saw a glimpse of Merv and I can’t want to see him, if I’m right it was Caine and Abel showing in the preview of the next episode, very very excited can’t wait to see Death and the other Endless I know Destiny Destruction and Delirium won’t show this season but I’m very excited now hell fucking yeah show me Death and Despair already where are my girls at Desire can stay too I guess
great casting, great acting, great great costumes and backgrounds hell yeah
I’m going to tag further reblogs about the show as “the sandman” and my own rambles as “devy watches sandman” this was an obsession of me for two entire years and it’s coming back full force I’m going to be absolutely annoying about it cheers

Ok so today is Friday the 13, and I absolutely adore this day. And because of this I am gonna make this post dedicated to the conspiracyingly (I don’t care if that’s not a word it’s my word ha ha) history origin of Friday the 13.
Yes yes I knoooow I’m supposed to be Greek mythology and stuff, but like come ooooon this is interesting stuff I’m actually considering making this blog dedicated to Greek myths, Norse myths, folklore, etc etc I just really think that would be super cool (maybe I’ll do like each month a different mythology)
Anyways let’s get arolling
Norse mythology might have something to do withe it.
So fun fact the name of Friday derives from frigga, who was the allmother of gods wife to Odin.
So we all know the tale of baldir and the mistle toe? (Well if you don’t that tale is definitely coming in December because it’s sorta Christmasy)
In viking myth, 12 gods were having a banquet in Valhalla. Unbeknownst to them though, there was a 13th uninvited guest. This uninvited guest was…LOKI!!
I love Loki so much I could dedicate a whole blog about just him. I love him just as much as I love hades they be my favourite gods.
So Loki (who is the god of mischief for anyone who doesn’t know) arrived and was all like blergh it’s me, then deceived Hodr (who is the blind god of darkness) into shooting Baldir withe a mistletoe tip arrow, thus killing him.
And yes yes I know it’s a very vague description of the myth but this post isn’t dedicated to the myth only the context.
And frigga was heartbroken from the death of her beloved favourate son.
And since Friday was named after frigga, and the 13th person killed who she loved dearly, Friday the 13 is said to bring bad luck and sorrow.
Another story that could have contributed in Friday the 13 being ya know, bad luck, is in the Christian era.
So again a dinner party, the last supper, which if you don’t know what it is it’s basically the last supper Jesus had before his arrest and it was when he showed his followers he would be the Passover lamb of god (aka what he was about to do for the behalf of mankind). If you want more information just look it up, google probably explains it better.
So Jesus and his crew of the 12 disciples were seated at the table. And the 13th person to sit down was Judas, who is the disciple who betrayed Jesus, and a big contributor to the crucification. It is also believed that the crucification happened on Friday the 13, but it isn’t stated specifically, it only states that his crucification was on “Good Friday”
Oh and still staying in biblical terms, even further back was withe Adam and Eve. It is believed that they ate the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge (not to be confused withe the tree of life) and were kicked out of the garden of Eden on Friday the 13, ANDDD even moreso was supposedly the day Cain murdered his brother Abel.
Now that we sorta understood why Friday is unlucky, we can now go onto specifically the number 13. So one of the reasons why 13 might be seen as unlucky is due to it coming after 12
12 is considered a complete number, withe there being 12 months in a year, 12 hours on a clock, 12 signs of the zodiac, 12 Olympians, 12 tasks of Hurcles, 12 stations of the sun and moon, etc etc.
So 13 is considered erratic and unlucky.
And obviously modern culture hasn’t really helped either, withe the movies and books about how unlucky and horrory Friday the 13 is.
So yeah, there’s probably a lot more reasons for this, but in all honesty, there is no reason but moreso reasonS. Seriously, lots of reasons why Friday the 13 could be considered unlucky.

Pe Specialist Faces Eight Sexual Misconduct Complaints
It is how we select to face those obstacles, which will predict our true success. The Kingswood Debating Teams engaged in an epic K-Day Debate on Tuesday evening. We faced groups from both St Andrew’s and DSG, and held our own admirably. The Kingswood 1st team hockey girls had their annual derby in opposition to DSG on KDay this previous weekend. The ambiance was electrical with an enormous crowd to help both groups. According to the household, Hough was a ‘skopper’ (loan shark). The hearing, nevertheless, failed to start as an HPCSA council member was not available to sit in on the hearing. It will now start right now, when a minimal of four former sufferers who have been allegedly sexually assaulted by Hough are anticipated to start their testament. Eight former sufferers of a Port Elizabeth medical specialist have laid legal complaints against him – six of sexual assault and two of rape. We'd respect as much information as potential, nonetheless only an email tackle is required. Hough, who has been living in Pietermaritzburg since November, listened to the sentencing proceedings just about last week. He leaves behind a legacy as a gentleman and absolute mensch.
