Go watch Journey to Bethlehem, here's why
These days, it feels like every movie that is released is unwatchable by anyone who seeks out good, clean, uplifting entertainment. These movies attack family values. Characters swear worse than any sailor I’ve ever met. The production companies look to the alphabet soup of “gender identities” when deciding which characters to include. Any man in a movie is either a weak punching bag or a…

A Christmas Horror Story (2015)
Tumblr media
Interwoven stories that take place on Christmas Eve, as told by one festive radio host: A family brings home more than a Christmas tree, a student documentary becomes a living nightmare, a Christmas spirit terrorizes, Santa slays evil.
Where to watch: Tubi
Rating: 5/10; but still delightful
Recommended by @adrainea
Me, halfway through: "Is this... is this a Christian movie?"
Seriously though, I had a blast watching this. It's so extra and ridiculous at time. Santa vs Zombie Elves was delightfully ultraviolent. The Changeling story is WILD.
The credit sequence is fantastic; just Shatner in this whole movie is a treat.
It's not something I would recommend to people looking for serious horror, hence the low-ish rating. But if you wanna have a good, holiday-themed time: this is your movie.

Christmas with a Kiss movie
Mona Sinclair, a social media influencer returns home in Milton to help with her family's Annual Christmas Carnival. Mona runs into an old friend and a few surprises. Mona lives in NYC and just had a 2nd date with a guy she met on a dating app. While she believes they had a strong connection and invites him to travel back home with her, he is left with this goofy look on his face and then surprises her with some shocking news of his own.
Mona was shocked, speechless and couldn't believe what she had just heard. LIKE, come again?!?!?! WHAT SIR
After that interesting encounter, Mona heads to her home town of Milton. A very small town where everyone knows each other.
The scenes in this movie are so beautiful.
The red, greens and gold colors throughout the movies reminds us its definitely Christmas season. Mona's family's home is Christmas cozy ready. Christmas everywhere. They went all out y'all! AND...we can't forget about Mona's wardrobe. LET's talk about it. Mona's wardrobe is elegant, red coats(I Love) - see pics for more of Mona's wardrobe
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pics via #Hallmark Channel
Mona's clothes are everything! Let me find out where I can get these items. AND her makeup is flawless, right??!??
Mona is happy to be back home with family. She runs into her ex-boyfriend(Fletcher) from high school as soon as she arrives. They are happy to see each other and already making plans to link up on a date. WOW, that was fast.
But hold on! Lets throw some curve balls in here, cause once Mona makes it to her family's home, she finds out a magazine reporter(Dez) is there to do a story on the family and family's carnival- and her sister already has ideas to fix Mona up with Dez. sigh
Dez is slick, tall dark and handsome. Mona is surprised how good Dez looks. But that doesn't stop the awkward meet up and perhaps Mona and Dez may have gotten off to a rough start here. LOL
Dez dosen't matter to Mona at this point, since she is falling for Fletcher all over again.
Dez can still impress Mona and the family as his dad is listed as high rank in the military. Mona's sister's husband is away in the military trying to get home. There's a connection here.
Let's get back to Mona and Fletcher. They talk about what happened in the past, and decide to move forward.
Mona's family not too thrilled with the reconnection with Fletcher & Mona...lol (isn't he the guy that stopped calling you??) Mona's family seems to likes Dez and he's really good with Mona's sisters kids. Could this win over Mona and the family??
As the family prepares for the carnival, mom and dad have a very special request for the sisters. Things get interesting from here on.
As Dez has his own reservations about what Mona's career is, he is starting to see the real in Mona and respect her work more and more. Not only that, but he sees something special with Mona. Could this be the beginning to a connection?? Welllll
I love how the sisters are so close and give each other advice. They have a great relationship and I'm glad to see it. Many times we see movies where there is all this drama amongst the family. Not the case here. Thank goodness....
It's interesting that when Dez is asked about the article he is writing he always have this weird look on his face as if he's hiding something. Curious to see what he's up to, cause he can't be this perfect....right?!??!
While Fletcher and Mona have seen each other a few times now, they can't seem to have that special moment. There are always interruptions. Could this be the universe trying to tell them something?
Dez and Mona are "getting to know each other" sort of. Dez is the family favorite, but Mona thinks he's a bit judgemental. Fletcher is not the family favorite, as they think he's still a bit flaky.
Let's talk about the star of the carnival - THE ANNUAL SINCLAIR DANCE. The dance is the last event of the carnival and it's where the magic happens. It's a tradition that love family friends and a touch of magic.
Will Mona have magic with either of the guys - Fletcher or Dez?
There are some twists here. Just when you think one guy has won over Mona, more disappointment comes around.
Will Dez and Fletcher show their true colors? Will Mona be able to see things clearly? Does she have her family's support and advice?
We can tell you this, the barn is so beautiful. That's where the Annual Sinclair Dance is held. It's magical! Mona is gaining a new appreciation for her hometown...thanks to Dez
The ending is the best, it's where all the magic happens: the Dance. As the story comes to an end, questions get answered, we find out more about mom and dad's request. Decisions are made. And in the same Milton carnival tradition that happens at the dance...magic happens. But with whom? Is this a true love story ? I think so
This is one of the best Christmas #HallmarkMahogany stories on Hallmark Channel. It has everything. Love, disappointment, lies, and magic, but no real family drama(which I'm ok with).
I whole heartily recommend this movie. It's the best Mahogany Hallmark Christmas 2023 movie I've seen. The writers and directors just get it right with the look and feel of the story. From the colors to the scenery and wardrobe. You will be able to feel the love Milton has for the residents and the grace and magic the story has in it.

Have You Ever Heart the Story of the FIRST White Christmas?
Renowned for their stop-animation classics, Rankin/Bass released "The First Christmas: The Story of the First Christmas Snow" in 1975. The story narrates a blind shepherd boy who aspires for a white Christmas, and his friendship with a girl named Louisa.
By the end of 1974, Rankin/Bass 17 TV specials in the span of 10 years; 7 of which were geared toward Christmas. Many of these specials becoming stop motion animated classics. Instead of resting on the reruns of beloved classics like “Frosty the Snow Man” and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” Arthur Rankin, Jr. and Jules Bass release “The First Christmas: The Story of the First Christmas Snow,”…

My Week(s) in Reviews: January 1, 2023
First and foremost... Happy New Year!!
Okay... now let’s get into it. I’m keeping these short because I have little to say about them or they’re going to be featured in My Best of 2022 shortly, anyway, so let’s just go with the old three things format for most of these, yeah? Good.
The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg, 2022)
Tumblr media
1. Wholly feels like the film Spielberg’s been working toward.
2. That final shot is the reason (as if I needed another one) why Spielberg is my favorite director.
3. I’m going to be genuinely shocked if this lands anywhere other than on top of my top films of 2022. - 10/10
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (Rian Johnson, 2022)
Tumblr media
1. What a cast!!
2. A ton of fun, and it chooses an approach and sticks with it. If you’re underwhelmed with the ‘twists’, that’s kinda the point.
3. Seriously, though... what a cast!! - 8.5/10
Babylon (Damien Chazelle, 2022)
Tumblr media
What a clusterf*ck…
It’s very clear Chazelle lost the thread about 40% in. Cutting that whole Tobey storyline would help. Also cut the opening scene, just start on the party. Tighten up Margot’s arc, we didn’t need that snake shit. Cut Jovan’s arc complete, there’s enough there thematically for a separate film. Give that to someone who can tell it in a way that’ll actually resonate. Leave everything with Brad Pitt alone. He was fantastic and his arc is the only one that felt like it progressed and ended naturally. Beautiful, tragic, interesting shit, right there. Actually loved the ending, but a bunch of other late moments for Diego felt sloppy/rushed. The phenomenal editing helps some of the more upsetting issues throughout, but can’t save the film from the total loss of cohesion in the those final acts. Despite all its many flaws, though, I still pretty close to loved about 65% of this film. - 6/10
Avatar: The Way of Water (James Cameron, 2022)
Tumblr media
1. Visually stunning. Probably the easiest VFX win since the last, right?
2. Someone should give Fincher the money for his 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea... if this film is anything, it’s proof the tech has reached the point where Fincher’s vision is not only possible, but feasible.
3. Has James Cameron actually ever heard two people talking to each other? My God, that dialogue is atrocious. (The screenplay all-around, really.) Yikes. - 6.5/10
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (Eric Appel, 2022)
Tumblr media
1. This is not only the perfect approach to a Weird Al biopic, I’m pretty sure it’s the only approach to a Weird Al biopic.
2. Very funny if you’re familiar with Yankovic as a person, downright hilarious if you go in only knowing his music.
3. Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna... I repeat, Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna. My God! - 7.5/10
Emily the Criminal (John Patton Ford, 2022)
Tumblr media
1. Aubrey Plaza is really damn good.
2. So is just how terribly things go in that third act.
3. The rest... not so much. I really don’t get all the hype. - 5/10
Black Adam (Jaume Collet-Serra, 2022)
Tumblr media
1. This is a very bad movie. Very easily one of the worst of the year.
2. Any promise Dwayne Johnson had every shown has been tossed in the garbage for terrible line delivery and tough-guy stares.
3. Pierce Brosnan deserved better than this. An interesting character and perfect casting completely wasted in favor of whatever this shit was supposed to be. - 2/10
The People We Hate at the Wedding (Claire Scanlon, 2022)
Tumblr media
1. Not a good movie by any stretch.
2. But Kristen Bell.
3. And Allison Janney. - 5.5/10
A Christmas Story Christmas (Clay Kaytis, 2022)
Tumblr media
1. Corny as f*ck.
2. But the type of corny I can get behind.
3. And that Christmas morning was the obvious tear-jerker material I’m a sucker for. - 6/10
The Shop Around the Corner (Ernst Lubitsch, 1940)
Tumblr media
1. James Stewart really is one of my all-time favorite actors. Just always so damn good.
2. Love me some Lubitsch, yet for some reason I have so many blind spots with him.
3. I know we live in completely different times, but even looking through the scope of the time, that ending seemed a bit forced. Still a delightful film overall, but she must’ve been really desperate to let the shit he pulled go. - 7/10
Elvis (Baz Luhrmann, 2022)
Tumblr media
1. Significantly better than I expected. But painfully overlong.
2. Austin Butler is fantastic. Tom Hanks is (somehow) borderline awful.
3. Baz Luhrmann’s direction is god-awful. But there’s a shit-ton of it, so I guess the Golden Globes look at Directing like the Academy does editing, now. - 5.5/10 (Almost all of those 5.5 are for Butler and the early performance sequences only.)
Enjoy!
-Timothy Patrick Boyer.

My Personal Movie Review 3
Title: A Christmas Story Christmas
Synopsis: Follows Ralphie, now adult, who returns to the house on Cleveland street to give his kids a magical Christmas like the one he had as a child, reconnecting with childhood friends, and reconciling the passing of his Old Man.
Genre(s): Christmas, Comedy, Family
Personal Rating: 10/10
Opinion: This was amazing! It was hilarious, heartfelt, and captured the same magic A Christmas Story had. I loved the returning cast from the first film, and I loved they all, especially Ralphie, still had the quirks they had when they were children. Ralphie and his family definitely stole the show for me. I actually didn't have high expectations for this film, since a lot of sequels had been rather lackluster recently, but I think this was a film even those with high expectations would've greatly enjoyed. Highly recommend, watch it when you can!

Fixing the Story: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
Fixing the Story: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
In this new series, I’m doing something a little different than my usual reviews. Rather than just talking about the good and bad in a story, I’ll be going a step further to present possible ways to fix a story that’s lacking. My goal? To help us practise how to pinpoint issues in a story and problem-solve them, a skill that we can use with our own stories! Synopsis Young Clara needs a magical,…

A Christmas Story (1983)
Tumblr media
A Christmas Story so perfectly captures what it’s like to be a kid around Christmas time it's become a classic. Even if you’ve never had to bundle up to go outside in the cold and your father didn’t curse like a sailor growing up, you instantly “get” what this movie is talking about. Hilarious and memorable, it sometimes feels more like a trip through your family's photo album than a movie.
Narrated by Jean Shepherd and told in flashback, the film is set in a nebulous era in the past (looks like the 30s or 40s). For Christmas, nine-year-old Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley) wants nothing more than a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and a sundial. Unfortunately, his mother, his teacher and every other adult around dismisses his wish as a bad idea. They all say the same thing: “You’ll shoot your eye out.”
The plot at the center of A Christmas Story revolves around Christmas and that Red Ryder BB gun but the movie frequently branches off. The neighborhood dogs, the school bully, the “major award” Ralphie’s father (Darren McGavin) wins, the malfunctioning furnace… each one of these has an equivalent in your memory. Everyone remembers the first time they were truly disappointed by a toy. For me, it was in 1993. I had seen commercials for the Mighty Max toys - small horror-themed playsets featuring a cool teenager battling hideous monsters. In the commercial, the children would close the toy and thrust their hands toward the screen. Instantly, bolts of energy transformed their hands to match the ghoulish designs of Kingdom of Gargantua, Skull Dungeon or Wolfship 7. On my birthday, I received Doom Dragon. I couldn’t be more excited as I grasped the toy in my hand, punched the air and… nothing. Had a camera been on my face at the time, it would’ve held the same look as Ralph’s when his reality comes crashing down.
A Christmas Story gets all the details right and the period-piece setting makes it feel authentic. “The details are fuzzy” it seems to say “but it went something like this”. The results are warm and nostalgic but also darkly comedic. We’re looking back at times when disaster was narrowly avoided or when things got so bad they'd be traumatic if they weren't so funny. You recognize yourself in Ralphie, which is why the film is consistently hilarious. Over and over, you’ll feel compelled to pause the movie, turn towards the people watching it with you, and tell them how your version of these events went but that would ruin the flow of things so your recollections will have to wait.
Even the names are spot-on. They don’t match the ones from your childhood exactly, but they’re not that far off. Funny how things work out that way sometimes. Director Bob Clark (also responsible for one of my other favorite Christmas-themed movies, 1974’s Black Christmas and the lump of coal that is Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2), along with co-writers Jean Shepherd and Leigh Brown have crafted a picture that’s destined to endure.
A Christmas Story is filled with memorable, quotable moments that will bring the whole family together. It’s a must for the holidays. (On Blu-ray, December 22, 2019)

The narrative style reminds me a lot of A Christmas Story. Not as good but still good when it’s good.
Love the Coopers (titled Christmas with the Coopers in the UK and Ireland) is a 2015 American Christmas comedy-drama film directed by Jessie Nelson and written by Steven Rogers. The film stars an ensemble cast, including Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Ed Helms, Diane Keaton, Jake Lacy, Anthony Mackie, Amanda Seyfried, June Squibb, Marisa Tomei, Timothée Chalamet, Olivia Wilde and features the voice of Steve Martin.

This was a really cute read. I loved getting to see all my faves having a great little holiday. I particularly liked the little reunion between Ash and Dan. They got to have a little hallmark movie moment at the Christmas market! Also their holiday traditions seemed really fun and I would absolutely die to see fanart of Ash in the Christmas onesie. This is getting a four out of five stars.

EXmas: Movie Review
I’ve always been a fan of Leighton Meester and I really like Robbie Amell so when a friend from London told me that there was a Freevee original featuring these two, I knew I had to take it to the top of my priority list. EXmas did not disappoint. Synopsis: Ali (Leighton Meester) and Graham (Robbie Amell) are an estranged couple who find themselves accidentally spending the holidays together…
