“No, No- Soap! We’re almost back- No, Soap! Fuck!”
You’re dragged towards the wall with him as he leans on it for support, pushing yourself free as he bends down, retching. his vomit nearly hits your shoes as you stumble backwards.
“Ugh, gross, Johnny,” Ghost’s disappointed voice and Gaz’s laugh come from behind you as Soap chokes out the last of it.
“No, no, no, don’t pass out, cmon,” Your attempts to help him up are weak, he’s a heavy, sturdy man, and you’re pretty drunk too. “Come onn, we’re almost back,”
You’re basically carrying him with how much of his weight he’s put on you, feet dragging against the pavement. The alcohol in your system isn’t the only reason you can’t understand his unintelligible mumbling in your ear.
“I know, big guy,” you tell him soothingly, struggling to walk in a straight line.
“Will one of you- Help me for fucks sake!” You turn to the two unhelpful men behind you, who’ve just been watching and snickering. Ghost, who is likely the most sober, wordlessly walks over and effortlessly scoops Soap from your arms, throwing him over his shoulder before continuing to walk silently. You and Gaz make eye contact, then giggle as you stumble after them, almost having to jog to keep up with Ghost’s pace.
You help Ghost lob Soap onto the couch, throwing a blanket over him and leaving a trash can next to the couch. the adrenaline and energy from the night out has worn off now, leaving your brain feeling cloudy and a shooting headache making you wobble. the guest bedroom is all set up, but ghost takes it upon himself to walk you to your room anyway. you’re sober enough to walk on your own, but you lean on his arm anyway, relishing in the rare contact he wouldn’t normally allow.
you flip into bed and roll over, sighing in relief as the pressure is taken away from your limbs. Ghost is uncharacteristically careful, starting to tuck you in, making sure the blanket covers you.
“aww, you’re so caring, tucking me in?” you tease, rolling onto your stomach and looking up at him flirtatiously. he doesn’t answer you, your words making him step back and halt his movements.
“i was just teasing!” you sit up, grabbing at his arm quickly to prevent his leaving. neither of you say anything for a moment, but he lets you idly run your thumb over the tattoos covering his arm.
“will you… stay? with me?” you ask softly.
“you’re drunk,” he says flatly. what a gentleman.
“no! i don’t mean- like that, just…” you trail off, not sure what you’re asking for exactly. you just don’t want him to leave.
“…and i’m not that drunk,” you mumble.
when he reaches over and clicks off the lights, shrouding you in darkness, you expect to hear his footsteps receding. instead, his arm never leaves your hand, and he silently sits next to you on the bed. still in the clothes he wore out, he lays down next to you. not touching you, but he lets you keep hold of his arm, holding it against your body as you settle in.
your room’s bitter cold contrasts the heat simon is radiating, and if he’s overheating he doesn’t say anything when you cling to him for warmth. in the darkness, you cant see anything, but your eyes are wide open. this is… unusual. he’s laying unnaturally stiffly next to you, and you feel a prickle of guilt in the back of your mind for making him stay. you let your grip loosen on him as you settle in and get comfortable, only now processing the boundaries you’ve crossed.
his warmth is missing when you let go of his arm, leaving you to curl up on your side. suddenly, simon is on his side, too, pulling you against his body again in one swift movement. while both wide awake, neither of you say anything. your cheeks are burning hot, but you cuddle closer to simon anyway, desperate to feel his body heat. moments pass, and the drumming of his heart near your ear and steady breathing have lulled you almost entirely to sleep.
unbeknownst to you, your steadying breathing has done nearly the same for him. Simon hasn’t felt this relaxed in months, despite his uncertainty from moments earlier. he’s glad you asked him to stay, your body molded against his and your rhythmic heartbeat against his skin calming him in ways he didn’t know possible, years of high anxiety situations and stress beginning to melt away. he thought about how pretty you looked tonight, he’d only seen you in uniform previously, and while you do make it work, seeing your hair and makeup done for going out took his breathe away.
once he thinks you’re asleep, he leans his head towards yours, and hesitantly presses a kiss to the top of your head. he could get used to this, he thinks. the action makes you smile to yourself.

things that are apparently supposed to help with nausea
im writing this with the intention of it being used for sickfics or whatever but i guess it could also work if you just actually don't feel well
basically any food/drink with ginger because it reduces inflammation (i think??) mostly ginger ale and ginger tea are recommended for nausea because you're obviously not really gonna wanna eat if you're nauseous, but i think that ginger snaps are nice if you're nauseous and hungry at the same time.
peppermint because it also reduces inflammation (i think)! my personal favorite forms (for the purpose of making your character quirky and different and shit) are those little lifesaver mints, mint leaves, and copious amounts of peppermint tea.
the smell of lemon! apparently there was some sort of study done with this but ive never tried it.
smelling those rubbing alcohol wipe thingies! ive also never tried this one but ive heard that it works really well.
any non caffeinated soda. i think it's something to do with the carbonation and the sugar. carbonation always makes me feel a little better so 🤷‍♀️
that pressure point on your wrist! i think this is what those anti-carsickness bracelets do? idk ive only heard of them ive never actually seen them. i think this is supposed to be used more as a preventative thing and not a cure for nausea that's already happening.
deep breaths! i hate deep breaths! they kinda work tho
distraction! this one is just one that i do bc my nausea is 80% not caused by actual sickness so distracting myself makes me feel better.
an ice pack on the back of the neck. ive never tried this one but ive heard good things about it.
crackers! theyre supposed to like reduce the extra acid in the stomach which is supposed to make you feel better. in my experience they work especially well for when you're hungry and nauseous at the same time.
now for placebo things ive convinced myself help with nausea, because ALWAYS remember that your character can have remedies that don't scientifically make sense but it's a placebo effect so it works for them. these are just my personal ones, you can come up with basically anything for this category.
sleeping while sitting upright instead of laying down! i swear laying down makes me feel worse.
pacing! i actually stopped doing this one years ago because it's not really a good idea to walk around the house if i think i might be sick because like... i don't wanna do that on the floor
ive heard people say that sitting on the bathroom floor makes them feel better but i don't like touching the bathroom floor so i cannot confirm.
freezing! when im nauseous the first thing i do is shed as many layers of clothing as i can and then turn on every fan in the room and let myself freeze.
sitting in bed! not laying in bed, not sitting literally anywhere that is not my bed, it specifically has to be sitting in my bed! i swear sitting literally anywhere else makes me feel worse.

I always cough (sometimes a LOT) when I eat or drink anything, especially with drinking my juice.
I can't remember if this is whole life, but it has happened for quite a while, it is not new.
It is very irritating and often it hurts or feels uncomfortable. I just want to eat and drink without have to cough and cough afterwards to try "clear" throat. It never fully clears.
I also have a lot of congestion (mucus) most of the time, I wonder if it is connected. I get much more mucus in my throat and sometimes nose during and after I eat or drink.
Sometimes I also get "sick" with juice, if I drink big mouthful some will come back up and have to re-swallow down. Not nice :/.
I don't know why 🤷🏻‍♂️ but I don't like it ☹️

(who my childhood bestie barfed orange crush and ketchup chips on several years later and had to be thrown out due to the horrible neon orange tinge she took on and i will never forgive him for this)
but as many know, its far more simple to replace a habit than break one which is why i instead began chewing on my fingers
anyway i wanted to make a post about how often i look down at my hands and think to myself "what the fuck when did i bite my hand. why are the multiple bite marks" and decided it needed context so here it is post over 👍

hi there, i want to thank you for talking about gastroparesis and sharing your experiences with tube feeding. i may or may not have gastroparesis as well, my gastric emptying test was inconclusive, but my stomach issues are pretty disabling and i have wondered if tube feeding might someday be necessary for me. hearing about your experience makes it a lot less scary sounding! i wonder if you would be comfortable sharing a little more about how tube feeding has improved your health, and impacted your daily life (for better or worse)? are there things you can do now that you couldn’t have done before tube feeding, or vice versa? feel free to take your time answering, or not answer at all if it’s too personal. either way, i appreciate you!
I'd love to talk more about it!
I can empathize with your GES results. They can just end up being just a snapshot of your entire experience, and unfortunately they can just catch you on a "good" day where your emptying times are better. I know some people will intentionally trigger flares to get more accurate numbers on their study.
I'll preface with a little more information about me. I was misdiagnosed for 16 years with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome and dealt with that and other vague GI diagnoses like GERD and IBS-D episodically and it gradually got worse over time. I was never given a GES until 2022. After I got pregnant and gave birth in 2020 I drifted into this pattern of daily morning vomiting, then I went into a flare last August that I never left. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis in Nov 2022, caught covid for the first time at the end of Nov, and got my tube Jan 2023.
Tube feeding has significantly improved by health. I was slowly dying from starvation ketoacidosis in December 2022. But even when I was eating orally I struggled with severe gastric malabsorption for years and often felt symptoms of malnutrition and saw minor malnutrition on labs and never understood why because I was eating, but because of fatphobia I was never given a GES and I was never taken seriously until I lost a significant amount of weight. In the most severe moments I was having constant diarrhea and vomiting and I've had so many hospitalizations due to dehydration and vomiting alone when I was eating orally.
I'm about 7 months in and I'm getting about 1300-1500ish calories a day, which is not my goal and it needs to be increased. But the difference with it being in my jejunum is that I'm absorbing 100% of those calories and it has helped my energy and my immune system so much. I've been able to significantly slow the weight loss while we investigate the root cause of my gastroparesis, as well as test for intestinal dysmotility. My hair is growing back, my nails are stronger, and I'm having general improvement of my IBS-D.
That being said, being on feeds and fluids, especially continuous feeds, it does impact my lifestyle a lot. I need accommodations at work. I can't let my feeds get over room temp or fluctuate temp too much. When my bags are full and it's in my backpack I'm carrying 2L of liquid and a pump, plus an additional medical bag with supplies. I even have to sleep at an angle to prevent aspiration. And the fun of stoma care. Cats also seem to have a taste for formula and tubing, which has banished my fur children from our bedroom at night. My medical supplies take up half of my dining room. It's certainly a major life change.
But without all of that, I would be dead. For a lot of us, being without alternate nutrition means either death or severe suffering from symptoms of gastroparesis. This is my symptom tracker for vomiting over the past year. You can see the stark difference between July-December and January-now.
Tumblr media
This alone was enough for me to justify for myself that a medical device was necessary. Even without the starvation, I still have two hernias from vomiting and developed chronic gastritis secondary to the GP.
The one thing with tube feeding is that your digestive system is like a muscle. If you don't use it, you lose it. And I've definitely noticed a decline in my capacity to tolerate anything in my stomach for long, even liquids. I'm grieving this and learning how to live with this because there isn't an alternative for me at this moment. I'm still trying, I use the gastric port to drain a lot just to keep what little of my stomach's function it still has.
