Jangan jadikan uang sebagai orientasi/tujuan. Nasihat yang dulu kujawab dengan bebal ini berangsur bisa kupahami. Seiring waktu berjalan, dari yang dulu single dan sekarang berkeluarga. Kalau dihitung sekali jalan perlu 4 tiket jika pakai pesawat / kereta. Sekali menginap langsung booking 2 kamar. Rasanya kalau kekhawatiran soal uang dan materi apalagi jadi tujuan / orientasi. Aku akan diselimuti kegelisahan sepanjang waktu karena takut kekurangan, berpikir bahwa uang/materi adalah satu-satunya pembebas biar leluasa ke sana kemari dan ngapa2in. Lupa bahwa rezeki itu sudah diatur, sudah dialokasikan sama Yang Maha Pengasih. Apalagi setelah berkeluarga, saat kebutuhan tak lagi soal diri tapi sudah merambat ke biaya pendidikan, properti, dsb. Pasti ada jalannya, ada rezekinya, yang penting terus berikhtiar sebaik mungkin.

Belajar lebih tawakal. Stres di tahun 2023 dipikir-pikir karena ingin sekali mengendalikan banyak hal. Ingin semua hal bisa berjalan dengan baik, tapi ternyata tidak. Ada hal yang akhirnya eror, tidak berjalan sesuai rencana, tidak bisa kukendalikan. Akhirnya stress. Belajar utk lebih berserah pada hasil setelah berusaha. Ada Allah yang mengatur segalanya, kita tidak perlu pusing untuk memikirkan semuanya. Apalagi terus berharap bahwa apa yang kita usahakan, selalu berhasil sesuai yang direncana. Nanti jadi mudah kecewa.

Komunikasi adalah kunci dari kelanggengan relasi. Baik itu dalam pertemanan, pernikahan, pekerjaan, dsb. Belajar untuk lebih komunikatif, lebih banyak mendengar, dan juga belajar untuk berkata yang baik-baik. Berhati-hati dengan lidah yang tak bertulang, yang berpotensi menyakiti orang lain - fitnah - dan berbagai hal yang bisa jadi keluar darinya karena tak mampu dikendalikan. Yang berakhir pada hilangnya kepercayaan, kesempatan, bahkan hubungan.

Jangan ragu untuk memutus pertemanan yang tidak sehat. Belajar untuk lebih dekat dengan lingkaran-lingkaran kebaikan, yang mengajak pada hal-hal baik, yang mengingatkan pada hal-hal baik, yang semakin dewasa ini sangat dibutuhkan banyak sekali nasihat ketimbang haha-hihi. Apalagi lingkaran-lingkaran salih yang membuat kita lebih dekat dengan Sang Pencipta.

Lebih banyak menerima feedback. Meski terdengar tidak nyaman, tapi kita sangat memerlukan kritik dari orang lain. Alih-alih denial, coba resapi bahwa bisa jadi ketidakpekaan kita selama inilah yang menghambat diri untuk berkembang. Karena diri menolak untuk dinilai dan dikritik. Tidak mendapatkan evaluasi, tidak mendapatkan saran untuk hal-hal yang perlu dibenahi, bersembunyi dibalik kata-kata mutiara "Aku memang seperti ini, kalau gak suka ya gak apa-apa, aku mau jadi diri sendiri." Apakah benar menjadi diri sendiri itu artinya tidak mau berubah lebih baik lagi atas sifat-sifat buruk yang dimiliki?

POV Orang Tua, anak-anak di masa kecilnya hanya akan terjadi sekali. Jangan sampai lalai dengan urusan pekerjaan dsb yang menyita waktu hingga tidak ada waktu untuk menjadi orang tua yang utuh, yang hadir, yang dengan segala keadaan yang nanti terjadi, tetaplah hadir sebagai orang tua bagi anak-anak.

Jangan memelihara rasa benci. Jangan memelihara pikiran yang picik. Jangan terus menerus berpikir buruk tentang orang lain dan juga diri sendiri. Apalagi memiliki sekeciiilll apapun buruk sangka kepada Allah - jangan sampai terjadi.

2023 in photos. i can't recall a year i felt this unsettled. more often than not, i was in a state of detachment—from places, from people, from myself. i went on a solo trip to belgium and france in march, quit my 9/5 job in july, moved to the us of a to pursue a master's degree in august, taught professionally for the first time the rest of the year. i wrote a novel, then i wrote it again.

i was self-conscious, then i was self-confident. i was full of love, then i was full of grief. it was magical and it was exhausting. everything i lost, i gained in another form. i can only hope to embrace 2024 like this. thank you to those who followed my journey, helped me when i was overwhelmed and needed advice, sent messages of support and kindness. i'm so happy to have found you in this corner of the internet. <3 happy new year x

2023 recap! It feels weird to say I didn’t craft that much this year, when I also graduated law school, took (and passed!) the bar, moved across the state, started my dream job, and got engaged to my best friend.

In truth I worked on a few bigger projects, like my Iceland EPP quilt and the red churn dash quilt. I am a very slow sewer but I don’t mind it.

I hope 2024 is kinder, slower, and full of joy and creativity for us all <3

2023 Knitting Projects

This was my first official year of knitting and I had so much fun learning new techniques and skills

I completed a total of 8 projects (one was a christmas present so its not in this picture). It is really incredible to me that I started this year just wanting something to do while I recovered from surgery and it turned into such an important part of my life.

My first project! These shorts were surprisingly easy for a first project although I definitely made some mistakes.

Both of these are the step by step sweater by Florence Miller. For the gray sweater I used some cable patterns from the Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible by Hitomi Shida.

The Salty Days Sweater by Kutovakika (I wear this one all the time!)

The Skeleton Top by Betty Maeva (with a lace panel from the Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible by Hitomi Shida)

Two different Sophie Scarf by Petiteknit (the one of the left is alpaca and silk and the one on the right is wool).

And finally the Columns of Valhalla Pillow by Drops Design which was knit as a christmas gift for my sibling's spouse. For some reason it looks gray in this picture (probably because I finished it late on Christmas Eve lol) but it is a denim blue color.

I really had a fun year of knitting and I already have so many future knits planned
