there are two things: either the girls break up from the group or they begin a long and indefinite hiatus. There is no difference between the first and the second however because they will become 1D 2.0 (we don't talk about impact) but they will say that they will return after months with a new comeback but this will not be true. Months will turn into years and each of the girls will do their own thing, just like the members of One Direction. Or if one of the girls decides to leave and the group remains with three members, in a few years the disbandment will be inevitable. What does this mean? YG is in total ruin and his company is now at the end of the line regardless of the decision made

But the thing that frustrates me about BLACKPINK and the way they’re managed by YG is that they have so many inconsistent comebacks like one come back in two years that’s crazy.

When you have the reputation and when you claim to be the biggest girl group in the world, you have to be consistent with your music and your fans. If you want to stay relevant, I mean how long is luxury brand endorsements going to help you stay on top or relevant?

Korean citizens don’t even care if the girls are not going to continue with being in YG because they said their comebacks are so inconsistent so hiatus doesn’t really matter to them. Nothing new to them because they always disappear for years after giving one song/or a mini album which sounds so repetitive. With the same repetitive choreography and the same shitty stupid lyrics.

And I am not blaming the girls for this. I am criticizing YG it’s strategy..

Hii :) I know you have probably talked about this extensively in the past and I don't know if you answer questions like it anymore (and if so don't feel pressured to do so.) I have read up on the Zayn leaving/fight stunt and all of that, but what I was wondering is: was the hiatus in itself also a 'stunt' do you think? As in it wasn't the boys who decided to do it but they were 'shelved' or whatever it's called by Simon/the teams. People have said it was Harry's idea but would he get to do that?

I think the hiatus largely corresponded with the end of 1D’s active contractual obligations with Modest/Syco (aka the number of albums they owed).  I would guess that the hiatus happened when it did in order to allow for the transfer of power to 1D’s new team.  However, it’s likely that 1D’s old team did everything they could to sabotage 1D and have clung to their control over 1D, potentially utilizing lingering contractual clause obligations to do it.  I’m not sure if that’s still ongoing or if at this point the main problem is getting all of their schedules to match up again now that they’ve all got solo obligations lined up.

There was at least one point where Niall felt comfortable enough in saying to fans that the hiatus could be as short as 6 months, which might have been optimistic even then, but it says to me that 1D never had the intention to be away for all that long.

By that point 1D desperately needed a break anyway, so I think it made total sense for them to agree to a temporary hiatus to get all of their business taken care of and to recharge.  I think they probably agreed to it under that impression, which is why they fought tooth and nail against the media representing the hiatus as a “breakup” pretty much from the beginning (part of their old team’s sabotage).  

And no, I’m positive that Harry had no unilateral ability to make that sort of decision on his own.  Despite the PR image of Harry that even fans who should know better have bought into, he never acted like a diva or as the leader of the band.  He always acted and was treated by the other members as an equal partner.

About the rad louies and stuff. I am a larrie, I love H&L but I wasn't expecting this level of stunting from Harry at this point and it makes me sad. This is kind of a cry for help because the last think I want is to think bad about Harry, but sometines I'm genuinely concerned... would he give up all of his creative ambitions just to be with him? i'm not mad! i don't blame you for being sad and confused. i'm not a discourse blog and i don't plan to become one (despite my last few posts, sorry!) but i want to answer this because this is such a hard time in the fandom and we could all use some comfort.

it's fair to say none of us were expecting this level of stunting after 2019 and 2020. but i think it is important to emphasize that just because he is no longer as tightly controlled as he was as a teenager, does not mean he likes stunting. this stunt was not his idea. he was not sitting in a board room going "hey guys what if i make out with olivia on a yacht, that'd be so fun!" he is a closeted gay man who has to do some ridiculous stuff to maintain his closet and to be successful in the music industry and now hollywood.

now, you say you "hate the ladies man he is trying to sell again." i want to be very clear here, he, himself, is not and never has tried to sell this. this image was pushed upon him incessantly at the tender age of 16 (when he was a LITERAL child) and he was buried deep in that image by 1d's team and the tabloid media for eight years straight. while in 1d he pushed back on this image as much as he possibly could. he hates this image and he had no choice in it. just listen to Don't Let Me Go, listen to Something Great, listen to Two Ghosts, and if you need further reassurance of something recent: listen to Falling!!!!! watch the Falling music video! what do you think he is talking about when he says "what if i'm someone i don't want around?" the image of "the drink in my wandering hands." i see Harry far more in his music than i do in his pap pictures or than i do in HSHQ. i cannot picture someone writing those songs who is not incredibly self-aware, good intentioned, and deeply deeply loving.

yes, we hate this stunt. yes, it is bringing back some of the narrative that haunted us during 1d of the womanizer. yes, we are all slightly confused as to why he agreed to it after what looked like a serious image rebranding in 2019. we do NOT have the answers. i simply don't know, anon. BUT i am not going to start questioning who Harry is and how he wishes to be seen. and, honestly, that takes some faith right now. especially after yachtgate 2.0. but i am happy to say it is not blind faith because Harry is still Harry. i am going to pull out the big guns and attach fimq's video "The Womanizer." perspective is important and it hasn't been a very long time in the grand scheme of things since fimq made this video. re-watch this or watch it for the first time and tell me who the real Harry is:

i think it's easier to vilify harry for rads because 1) his uber success and 2) he distanced himself very purposefully once the band went on hiatus. i highly suspect harry did so for his mental health and likely after working through some serious trauma in therapy. it's easier to think someone's a villain when you rely on tabloid fodder. i don't believe tabloid fodder about louis, so why would i about harry? just because i have less access to him, doesn't mean he's now a different person from the one i've grown to know.

harry's success means all the stunts are in your face but louis still has a whole ass beard and child. and he talked about that child and beard during promo in 2020! i don't think he is any less brave or good because of that. so it'd be cruel to say so of harry. closeting is never the fault of the closeted person. no matter how famous and successful.

and, finally, your question of would he still give up all his creative ambitions just to be with louis referencing what i said in my post which harkened to IICF. well, i think that question is moot. i think they likely determined a long time ago, 2015 or 2016, that both of them did not want the other to give up their ambitions for the other. and gladly so because that would not make for a very healthy or happy relationship. they decided they could stick together and still support each other's dreams; that they could survive the closeting if they had each other. it's a measure of love to say you would give up everything if they asked you too. but assuming louis loved/loves harry just as much, do you think he would even entertain the idea of allowing harry to give up on his dreams of singing, writing music, acting, being a gender-fucking fashion icon? nahhhh!!! would you let your partner do that? so to answer your question... i think harry still loves louis just as much as he did when he wrote IICF, probably even more now. do i think his ambition is a hindrance to his love for louis? no, not at all. i think louis is the biggest harrie there is, just like i think harry is the biggest louie.

okay, i think i've gone on long enough. i hope i've brought you some comfort in some way, anon. and i apologize to anyone who has to scroll past this fucking novel. but i think i needed this chat just as much as anon did. harry is a good and beautiful princess even when he is harder to access!

no worries, love! i think i've really only had one other ask on this (here) but it was more about why post-1d hiatus i still fully believe they're together! i also give some backstory on my time in the fanbase in the og days + coming back, so if you'd like to know anything on that i'd check that out too (and i give some examples of some post-hiatus moments that helped convince me, too!)

in general though....i think really it's a summation of everything from goings-on directly involving them and them alone (ie body language one on one, all those LOOKS, the gentle bickering and bantering and standing up for one another when being teased by the others, the two of them interacting together versus with the other 1d boys and even people we see them with now like harry with mitch or louis with his....lads pack? idk what we call them, lmao, but like ollie, stan at one point in time, calvin, luke (i'm not calling him hot luke ok i have seen much hotter men noah fence!!)...yeah, that crowd) to more external forces from coding/symbolism (the traveling fish and eroda and what we could have had with that!!, H shirt from december stream, the LT rubik's cube pre-harry shows, playing louis' songs at the fine line listening preparty, L's cover choices, uhh THE BEARS??) song lyrics (princess park? amsterdam without you? someday you'll be open? including lyric changes—since we were 18 (16!), i'm in love with lou, can't compete with my boyfriend, they're still together) and certain performances both in and out of 1d (b stage, anyone? 'i fell in love to this song'?, harry stops singing when it gets to louis' part of x song every time??, the 1d songs both pick to perform on their own?), implications from other band members (mostly back in the day though, idg why people insist on trying to ask any of them now, like obviously they're going to ignore it or say no??), and maybe most noticeably but in the worst way, the way their management decided to market them (posh harry and underdog louis) early on aided by stunting (harry's supposed womanizing with fans and randos to whichever celeb woman can benefit from hanging off his arm like.....you know who rn, me girlfriend eleanor 1.0 and 2.0, the ultimately very transparently fake but also very conspiratorial sounding babygate) thus pushing them further apart as time passed because they had to fit those molds, those alternate narratives, because teen girl doesn't want gay boy! let alone two gay boy! worst of all, two gay boy together! ew! no money for us because of the queers!!

(although we did get some larents renaissance moments over the years that very much so deserve more attention and recognition! and don't say they never fought their public images and stunts then or now!)

there's just so much, i feel with each passing year there needs to be a big collective roundup for what happened (actually happened, with certain receipts taken with a grain of salt unless hard evidence given, and not bringing back shit that's been debunked a hundred times to either negate HL or try to give it more reasoning post-hiatus) especially because back in the day, it was easier to be a larrie only by way of maybe becoming one, because they were always right there in front of you. now, unless you've been around or at least are aware of why 'larry' was/is a thing, or you do a big dig/catch up/research post-hiatus, being a larrie in this day and age can potentially have you come off as a bit of a conspiracy theorist....and more so than before, because we're not openly seeing them interact with one another.

(BUT, to be fair, the ones to blame for blacklisting and bullying of larries and all that bullshit is 1DHQ, and their legacy in that department has only been carried on and possibly further exacerbated by HSHQ 🙃🔪)

so tldr; it's everything wrapped up together, and that's how it was even early on for me. each additional thing that happens just further cements what i've seen, heard, and ultimately feel. there's not a doubt in my mind that those two are still together and happily in love, even if we don't see them standing side by side most nights like we used to, or interacting visibly on social media or in big hangouts where they can be spotted together, or with stupid and predictable stunts they give a half-effort to, still going on.

i kind of get it if you've joined the fandom after zayn "left" but also not really because people have no problem stanning four solo artists after 1d went on hiatus. well, actually they do because even ot4 stans don't exist anymore really, the majority of the fandom consists of larries who still pretend to be ot5 and ot4 fans . it's making me sad how differently the boys are treated, this includes: their song writing (for example writing songs about sex; when zayn and liam do it it's suddenly all they ever write about, when niall does it he's a "proud hoe", when harry does it it's fine because it's about louis?), their style (niall got drunk at a wedding, was suddenly shirtless and everyone cheered vs liam performing shirtless; when liam was experimenting with clothes vs when harry was finding his style, louis wearing athletic clothes vs liam wearing them), the reactions to photoshoots (very recently: harry for beauty papers magazine and liam posting the picture wearing make-up via mert alas; how people reacted to Liam's [nude] pictures for hugo vs harry's fine line nude, etc), how differently stunts get treated (for example: nailee, shiall, babygate 2.0, chiam, zigi; how most of them get ignored because either people don't care or don't think that not only harry and louis are having to stunt), the album promo (for example: compare Lewis Capaldi's promo with Niall's), the boys themselves (zayn only gets mentioned on march 25th and ignored otherwise; niall is only relevant when he's "captain niall", same with liam). in conclusion: this is for the most part not the 1d fandom anymore, but the "harry and louis" fandom and everyone who still pretends to care about Niall, Liam and Zayn better start acting like it

Do you feel like this was the worst one yet? I've been through all denials but this one really hit me. Louis said some odd stuff about his relationship with H and he's never talked about it like this before. he even talked about Harry with pride during BTY promo and tweeted about Robin when he passed. I just dont get it, do people tell him what to say? Even 3 years after 1D went on hiatus? Why can't he say no, enough is enough? I'm not blaming him, esp knowing he lied about E but I feel uneasy

I haven’t listened to it yet, so I can’t say much, but BS 2.0 made Louis look like a blatant homophobe so that was pretty fucking bad. Regardless, I don’t really get the logic of people questioning WHY Louis ends up saying stuff like this when the main elements that we think have ALWAYS been responsible for Louis and Harry’s closet are still in the picture - Syco, Sony and SJPR. Louis has new management and a new label in the U.S., but this interview happened in the UK with Syco’s mouthpiece - the same mouthpiece that has gotten exclusives on the boys repeatedly for YEARS despite always being nasty about them and spreading easily disprovable lies about them all the time. If you thought that Louis was being coerced to say certain things (or to go along with things when they were tweeted on his behalf) and to act a certain way back when he was in One Direction and you think now he’s now somehow home free and anything he does is completely because he wants to and there are no contracts or other obligations at play when stuff like this happens, Boy Have I Got News For You. Syco, Sony, and SJPR always perpetuated this stuff and they’re still around.

Why is Louis’ team so keen on disproving Larry, even though they know they’re loyal Louis fans? Why do they want to break this intimate bond so much? Why is it so necessary? His team doesn’t make him any more famous than he was when he was in 1D. All Louis has is his fans, who are basically fed up at this point. Why is the PR directed against his fans? Why does his team want to measure the levels of patience of these loyal fans? This is not a social fucking experiment, nothing makes any sense?

I think you’ve answered the question. Disproving Larry, Eleanour, and BG are all ways to cut Louis off from his fans, who are his only visible support. His label and team do not support him, but work against him. Turning fans against him is part of the strategy. If fans believe he’s straight, he comes across as homophobic, the way BS 1.0 and BS 2.0 made him appear. If fans believe he’s not straight, then he appears to be closeting himself, alienating his fanbase. At the same time, his music drops off the face of the earth. He becomes a series of tabloid stories. This is their strategy. Louis knows this. He has been constrained since hiatus started. My question is... what’s happening now?

I’m a TRASH Pete Wentz/Mikey Way tinhat and I’ll admit that, but mostly it’s like. for fun? it’s all crack theory and people usually acknowledge there’s no certainty behind it? so that’s what I thought it was? Thank you for answering my question about the hiatus! I was wondering what are your views on 1D ever coming back?

My feeling is that the hiatus length so far has been determined by behind-the-scenes contract stuff such as lingering clauses that don’t allow the boys freedom of their PR images, etc.  

I remember Niall originally mentioning that the hiatus could be as short as 6 months and even though Louis reacted in a panicked kind of a “shut up, we can’t promise that sort of timeline” way, I don’t think 6 months would have been mentioned at all if they intended for the hiatus to last for 5+ years.

I think there were a lot of signs that things were loosening up around March of 2016, but then things took a sharp turn for the worse PR-wise and solo-career-sabotage wise.  That change may be indicative of the boys not having been aware of their old team being able to retain control over them via lingering clauses, then being blind-sided by it.

I don’t think the boys will come back until they can do it on their terms.  I don’t think they’ll agree to come back if they don’t have a certain amount of control over their images, creative output, and schedules.  It’s hard to know when the boys will be completely clear of their old team, but the closing down of Syco is a good sign.

I think it’s possible that there was a plan for a late 2020 or 2021 reunion that was then scrapped because of the obstacles coronavirus has created.  At this point, multiple boys have solo obligations such as tour dates running through the end of 2021 and maybe even into 2022, so I can’t imagine we’d see an end to the hiatus before those are done.

It should be obvious by what I wrote above, but I do believe the boys will be back.  I just think their original plans got scrapped and now it’s completely up in the air about when they’ll be free to reunite, when will be a good time, and how schedules will align.

I agree that El 2 was always planned. The press round with the party stuff and after the baby was announced made that SO clear by the way they emphasized Louis supposed true love for Eleanor. But can you work out why they went for a baby if they intended to bring her back? Why wasn't a GF enough? An engagement even, if they wanted to try to finish Larry and closet Louis as deep as they could? Why this long grand plan with a baby? It suggests they never intended an early BGend anyway, or any end?

Hi anon! Yeah, i think El 2.0 was planned all along, or at the very least i’m sure Louis and Eleanor broke up for Louis to be a single dad. Otherwise (even if El was willing to play along) a kid narrative with a longtime girlfriend would have been a nightmare to manage (and, above all, to end it in future)

As for why they deemed necessary for Louis to be a dad, i’m not sure. I think the timing is very telling, though. The hiatus started in December 2015, and soon after Freddie was born, so my feeling is that they went for a baby (poor kid) to boost Louis’ image, to have something to talk about during the hiatus (and, what a coincidence, to justify his trips to LA, where Harry had a house). Or maybe they knew that during the hiatus they were going to have less power over Harry, so they tried to cover their asses, i don’t know. (In any case i’m sure they have to keep on fulfilling their obligations about the media image as 1D members, even during the hiatus - and that’s why i hate the hiatus, all the contro without a single pro-)I also wonder if it’s just a revenge against Louis (here there are some of my theories on Louis’ horrible image, and sabotaging Louis is one of them)

As for the timing of a BG end, i have only a thing to say: End it.

OT4 Hypothetical: Rebrand and a Four Part Narrative

So, come with me on a journey. Bear in mind that I absolutely want OT4 back together post haste and I am prone to trying to see if I can make a case that what I want COULD happen. As always, I have no insider information and like to put together what if scenarios.

I’m going to start with the things that just don’t make sense to me:

This Town was promoted like a lead single of an album. Niall was everywhere. There’s no album announced, just an enigmatic Summer 2017 thought.

Just Hold On is being promoted as a lead single as well. Also no album in sight.

Liam has been talking about an album for ages but hasn’t dropped anything.

Unsubstantiated rumors after unsubstantiated rumors about Harry dropping a solo album. And when I say unsubstantiated, I mean, if he signed a $80M deal with Columbia, why didn’t they put it in their shareholder letter at the end of the year?

For a band on hiatus they’re all in the media A LOT.

So, I started thinking. They’ve had coordinated promo all year. They are taking turns. One of them is always in the media. I’ve thought for quite some time that they were working on a Four Part Narrative. What if that Four Part Narrative IS the Rebrand? What if they’re meant to come out the other side being recognized as “serious musicians”? And, I’d argue that they’re aiming to be the Heir Apparent to the Beatles (more on that later).

Come with me on this. When they went on hiatus at the end of 2015, who were the “weakest” vocalists? Understand I do not mean actual weakest, who were perceived as the weakest? Niall and Louis.

So, first we get Niall in September with a surprise release of This Town. Surprise to us and it felt like surprise to him. Niall goes on Ellen, James Corden, Jimmy Fallon in sort order on top of running the radio show gamut. But HE DOESN’T HAVE AN ALBUM. The level of promo for this town is on par with what the boys did for full albums, and what we’ve seen from Ed Sheeran most recently. And, to date, we don’t have an album name or release date other than the enigmatic, Summer 2017. It’s worth noting that Niall spent the better part of his promo fielding questions about 1D and their return. To which he says, they’re FOR SURE coming back and that they’d be silly not to.

In the same vein of singles promoted without albums, Louis released Just Hold On with Steve Aoki in December 2017. Now, I would argue that this wasn’t supposed to come out that early (based on what Louis & Steve have said) but that it was rushed in a failed attempt to release it before Jay passed. That notion breaks my heart, but it doesn’t make it less true. Again, we’ve got an X-Factor performance, Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show, James Corden, and the radio gamut.

Now we’ve got the two “weaker” vocalists out there getting significant radio play and press about their creative process.

Liam announced that he had signed with Capitol Records in July, the first of the boys to actually announce anything publicly. He’s been involved with Cheryl since before that. We’ve had baby rumors for longer than it was possible to be pregnant (based on her supposed due date). And we’ve seen Liam in studio and showing small bits of track. Liam has never had to prove his worth as a vocalist, which is perhaps why we don’t have a full album from him yet. Or even a single.

Then we have Harry. Harry started the hiatus on a yacht. In the stuntiest of all stunts. But outside of that, the boy has been a ghost almost. He filmed Dunkirk but never spoke of it. Harry’s costars have done nothing but talk about how giving and down to earth he is (which we know). Then, also in September, he breaks his internet silence and shows the Another Man covers on his instagram. He attends the Another Man launch party, but says nothing about it. After July of 2016 Harry tweeted 6 times (3 of which were the Another Man covers). All year there have been rumors of Harry with Kendall or not with Kendall. Then recently, we have Rob Stringer talking about Harry’s “almost finished” album. But again, no confirmation. We do have the filing of Erskine Touring by Harry Styles.

Could Harry be about to drop a solo album on us in the middle of the night? Sure. But I got to thinking, if I was going to hide an OT4 album and tour plans, I’d hide it behind a Harry Styles Solo Album.

Because here’s the other thing, what do we see from them the MOST at this moment (other than babies)? We see all four of them writing. We aren’t seeing Harry writing. But we’re hearing about it and seeing songs being listed in his name. That doesn’t even account for the million nautically themed sappy love songs that have to be written under pseudonyms. Niall is even writing with JULIAN. Louis is writing. Liam is writing. Harry is writing.

Imagine this: we get to April/May (yet another enigmatic date) and the signs are all pointing to a Harry Styles Solo Album drop in the middle of the night. But instead of that, we get an OT4 album. The PR would be brilliant. It would be all about how they spent the year pursuing solo endeavors but that nothing is as rewarding as working together. Harry in particular would be out front discussing how great it is. They’re signed with Capitol Records. And everyone is heralding them as the Second Coming of the Beatles. Complete with the same record label.

When 1d come back are you gonna support them bc it feels like you hate all of them

Good morning dearest,

I don’t know how I feel about the band after this fkn mess. Let’s be honest, the PR for them is just a huge tangled mess && as a fan it’s insulting. I don’t understand why go through all these hoops? Idk if you’re aware but I don’t follow pop. 1D was the first pop group I ever bothered with since I was a kid. I come from the rock underground scene where fandoms are not like this. The music is just that, music. There are no PR gymnastics for bearding, stunting, or these ridiculous tactics that the Mainstream music follows. For instance, the kind of drama I’m used to is trying to figure out if Radiohead will release Cut a Hole? will it be in the 20 yr anniversary Kid A box set that will hopefully be released? 

I don’t hate 1D, personally because I don’t know them. I can’t even have an idea of who they are as people bc their teams have made it hard for me to distinguish their real personality from the image they have to sell. I want to erase everything after MITAM promo && will remember them like that. I enjoyed watching them && even if it was an image they had to sell, it’s one that I would gladly buy. They were sweet, charming && endearing. I think the only one that hasn’t shot himself in the foot from OT4 is Niall. His promo I like && he’s been very diplomatic && avoiding drama.   

Also, I came into this fandom a bit late. I did enjoy 1D as a group. Their music is alright. I think FOUR && MITAM are my fav albums bc their sound was more my type than the previous three as a whole. Although, I do like songs from the previous three but not as much as the last two. Frankly, if you have noticed my blog && noticed the music I post for my “song of the day” project or just general tunes I share, my music taste is VERY different to 1D’s sound. Lyrically && musically speaking, 1D is not that astounding to me, but I like them. Thus, it’s been very easy for me to step back && went back to my scene. 

Ok, this got a bit long but, I don’t hate them personally. I just don’t like the image they’re selling as individuals (this is about Liam && Harry). Niall has been great in my book so far. Louis has been MIA so I can’t even make a decision about him until his solo!Louis rolls out but so far it looks like another smear campaign so that sucks. If they ever get back together, I’ll cross that bridge if I ever feel the need to. Who knows what will happen by then but it’s safe to say that the hiatus, BG, BG 2.0 are in for a loooong while && I’m not here for that.
