The fight between Laios and Shuro ending with Shuro reminiscing/fantasizing about Falin really did a great job of mirroring what happens in the real world with Autistic Men vs Autistic Women. In my mind, both Laios and Falin are autism coded, and Shuro fights with Laios over how much he hates the autistic traits that Laios has and how annoying he finds them, then immediately goes on to explain he thinks Falin is the most unique woman he's ever met and loves how her mind works. Autistic men are so often thought/depicted of as annoying/cringy/etc while Autistic women are often thought of/depicted as the manic pixie dream girl or the 'not like other girls' girl. It was such an interesting thing to have back to back, cause it really went 'whoa society do think like that so often'.

i wanna say fuck you to anyone who shame disabled, chronically ill & neurodivergent people, especially homebound folks, for "spending too much time on their phone/on the internet/etc." when it's the only (Somewhat) accessible way for them to experience the world. many people don't get to get out much even if they want to because of their disabilities. shaming someone for trying to connect with the world, make friends and engage with hobbies in ways that are accessible to them is beyond cruel and unnecessary

Copying over my comment from this post since the original now has reblogs turned off:
It's interesting to consider all of this in full context of how Toshiro is framed in the scene. The argument starts with Toshiro insisting that Marcille was wrong to revive Falin with black magic and that she should go back with him to face punishment from elvish society, then get their help in putting Falin to rest. Laios argues that they can actually help Falin, and that eating properly gives them the strength to pull it off, at which point Toshiro tries to shut Laios down by throwing his past frustrations in his face. When Laios eventually overpowers Toshiro, he attributes it to his party taking proper care of themselves, at which point Senshi shows up to offer Toshiro food. Meanwhile, Maizuru expresses frustration at Toshiro's behavior, and when Toshiro talks about his out-of-the-blue proposal to Falin, Mickbell questions why he would do something like that, while Chilchuck remarks that it's the kind of world he lives in. Every part of Toshiro's position here comes across as antithetical to the protagonists and the quest we're following them on. Even other characters present don't seem to think much of his behavior here. And, while playing that antagonistic role, we see him imposing those social standards on someone who finds them confusing and alienating. The result is that the primary lens through which the viewer is encouraged to see the scene is that of an autistic person being berated for not living up to a set of social standards, and in particular not meeting the standards of Japanese society. And while a Japanese audience might find it easier to understand why Toshiro thinks the way he does, the scene is very clear in sending the message that he is wrong and that, as previous comments noted, he's been stuck in a mindset that's hurting both him and Laios. The outcome of the fight suggests that Toshiro would benefit from learning to think more like Laios about food - and I think the audience is also meant to feel that Toshiro would benefit from learning to think more like Laios about people.
And the addition from @delvinanaris:
More than that, Toshiro’s last line of that scene—expressing his envy of Laios—suggests that he, too, feels that he would benefit from learning to think more like Laios about people.
Also here's the original tweet and a great comment on it:

15 year old google psychologist on tiktok: you HAVE to be PROFESSIONALLY DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM or else youre a FAKER whos STEALING RESOURCES from ACTUAL PEOPLE WITH AUTISM
psychiatrist: you dont act autistic. ok well i guess you acted autistic as a kid but not now so clearly something changed. whats masking?
psychiatrist: you experience a lot of traits of autism but you made eye contact with me for a bit so you cant be autistic
psychiatrist: you cant be autistic because youre too smart
psychiatrist: well you experience profound symptoms of autism but your brothers already diagnosed with autism and thats not possible for you both to be
psychiatrist: ok you seem autistic however youre a teenage girl. have you considered you might have borderline personality disorder/bipolar disorder instead?
*also when you get diagnosed*
psychiatrist: i cant advocate for your disabling ptsd to the government, i can only do autism. yes i know your autism isnt the actual problem here but have you considered that youre just being autistic about it?
psychiatrist: i cant write a letter of recommendation for gender affirming care because youre autistic. yes i know you work a full time job and live independently but youre not capable of making these decisions
psychiatrist: *doesnt try to treat/talk about anything but the autism*
the 15 year old again: i know you SAID youre diagnosed with autism but i dont believe you because anyone can say that, so im going to continue to harrass you about it anyway

Being asked to rate your pain on a scale as someone who has had chronic pain for several years is so difficult. Like how am I supposed to rate the pain I am experiencing from 1-10 when I have no idea what it feels like to not be in pain. Like what is 0? what is 1?? what is even 10???? What am I comparing it to???? My 5 can be someone else's 10 and their 10 can be someone else's 2, and how is a doctor or anyone else for that matter supposed to tell the difference? Maybe it's because I'm autistic and I'm just overthinking it but it literally makes no sense to me.

okay we all get that shuro hating laios and laios not being able to tell is a nightmare for all autistics but.
can we please talk about kabru?? like. so many people on here babygirl him but everytime hes on screen i just feel dread.
because he percieves laios as a THREAT. laios is being nothing but kind and helpful and kabru DESPISES him, actively percieves him as evil. (unlike shuro, who just dislikes him)
kabru is acting so kind, even encourages laios to talk about his interest, but inside he thinks hes evil, lame, and is interested in his interests only because he wants to analyze it and laugh at him in his head.
that, to me, is way worse. he is actively LYING to laios (unlike shuro, who thinks hes giving him hints that he doesnt like him), willingly manipulating laios with the goal of destroying him.
he reminds me of my middle school bullies, who would pretend to be my friends but then would laugh about my interests behind my back.
i dont get the ship and i dont get the love and i dont understand why the hate is only shuro-centric.

As someone who also has interacting with people as a special interest in the same way that Kabru does, I think his character is so important for autistic representation.
1) just point blank we need more autistic BIPOC in popular media.
But 2) it took so long for me to realize I was autistic because there is just no representation of autistic people who not only like being social, they’re GOOD at being social, like charisma is a genuine skill they have and rely regularly on.
And 3) idk how phrase this exactly but Kabru had what a lot of people would code as “girl” autism. Meaning he’s representation of a kind of unique thing I’ve seen from others in the neurodivergent community who are gender non-conforming in large part because of the ways they are neurodivergent. This is true of me too, I have “boy” ADHD and my brother had “girl” ADHD and we were bullied for this gender nonconformity despite the fact that my brother is completely cishet.
So like, yeah, the story centering women and a wlw love story, Fallin being consistently shown as attractive for her neurodiversity not in spite of it, Laois thriving and being the hero in a way no one else can because of his autism not in spite of it, these are all really really important to focus on in the fandom! I agree as an autistic sapphic myself!
However I hope no one is brushing away Kabru fans because he’s unique and really important!
I <3 this blorbo big time and I hope you can appreciate him too!
