((It’s Spooky baby’s birthday💕))

Vincent was up bright and early. Not only was it the best holiday of the year, it was Jamie’s birthday. And like every year, she got spooky pancakes. She was turning five this year, a big birthday- that’s what Jamie called it at least.

Vincent heard the running footsteps before his now five year old jumped out into a Spider-Man pose, followed by a sleepy Johnny who picked her up to put her on a island stool. This year, Jamie was going as Spider-Man, and Vincent was going as Ghost-Spider. They had tried everything to get the other three involved, but Ted wanted to be Ghostface and Kerry and Johnny wouldn’t tell Vincent what they were scheming up. But Vincent wasn’t going to let his baby girl down. He had dyed his hair and everything for the occasion.

“I’m Spider-Man.” Jamie growled out, then started chugging her juice.

“That’s Batman voice, hon.” Kerry said as he lowered her up and reminded her to slow down.

Kerry was a saving grace in the mornings when it came to busy days and coffee. Halloween was basically first Christmas, running around to get everything perfect for Jamie’s birthday and trick or treating in River’s neighborhood. It was a lot and most of the time got overwhelming.

But unfortunately, work and school still existed and Halloween was a busy day for Vincent. Everyone wanted scary tattoos on Halloween. He understood, he got his skull on his thigh on Halloween. Didn’t make it suck any less when he couldn’t spend his day with Jamie and Ted.

By the end of the day, Vincent was questioning if he could give Ghost Spider justice, he was exhausted and ready to go to bed, or watch scary movies. But he had a promise to keep and a little girl to make happy.

He pulled into River’s driveway, seeing Mike holding Jamie outside in a cowboy get up. Vincent couldn’t help but smile as he got out, his little girl yelling for him excitedly in her Spider-Man costume. Vincent still had to get ready and had to eat before they went anywhere.

He had yet to see his husbands when he walked in, but didn’t question it with chaos around the house. He smiled at Ted and Dorian playing together, Ted wasn’t Ghostface though… he was in a Venom spider get up. Maybe he changed his mind last minute.

Vincent was a damn good Ghost-Spider. He loved it the second he put the suit on and Jamie squealed when she saw him, running to him. She babbled excitedly about her day and Vincent ate a slice of pizza while she talked, while also making sure Ted was ready.

“Where are your dads? They’re supposed to be here by now.”

Ted suddenly giggled, then covered his mouth. Okay now Vincent was suspicious where were those two? Especially when Ted ran away to avoid telling Vincent why he was giggling… then the front door opened.

And in walked Kerry and Johnny, as Spiderpunk and a weird Sci-fi version of Spider-Man for Johnny’s arm.

Jamie shimmed out of Vincent’s arms in favor of Johnny, who scooped her up and kissed her cheek. Vincent was close to tears, seeing his two ‘tough’ rockerboys dressed up like nerds for their daughter.

“We doin’ cake now or later- are you okay?” Kerry had come up close to Vincent to talk to him, but Vincent just pulled him in for a kiss, hearing several ‘ew’s and gagging noises from the kids.

“You two are sweet, you know that?”

“You know we have a five year old to keep happy? Did you really think we weren’t gonna do what she asked?” Kerry smiled, picking up Ted when Johnny and Jamie walked over.

“Cake!” Joss called out, carrying a homemade cake with Spider-Man themes on it. Jamie smiled big at the sight and the parents knew this was gonna be a long, sugar filled night. But they happily sang happy birthday to their daughter, Johnny kissed her cheek when it was done and she blew out the candles.

After they managed to get the kids to eat actual food, River and Mike (who were absolutely dressed like the guys from Brokeback Mountain), rounded them up for trick or treating.

Vincent watched them run off, laughs and excitement filling the air. Johnny came up behind him and wrapped his arm around his shoulder.

“Thank you…”

“For what?”

“For dressing up. I know it made her happy. Made me happy too.” What? Johnny looked good in a skin tight suit!

“Oh I’m sure it did.” Johnny was clearly controlling himself, especially when both of his partners were in skintight suits and looking fine as hell.

“The fuck are we just standing here for? I didn’t dress up for people to not see me.” Kerry walked out, looking between the two in confusion, then raised a brow.

“Okay no, we can wait until she goes to moms this weekend.” Vincent pulled back, hearing Johnny huff with a grin…

His announcement could wait, it was Jamie’s day.

Kakashi rubs at his tired eyes, his hands trembling despite the time he'd taken to recompose himself before the bathroom mirror. The nightmares came and went as they pleased, often triggered by the slightest hint of an attachment to his painful past. A familiar smell here, a double take towards a face or voice there, and he'd landed right back in his own pit of misery.

He hadn't meant to wake Itachi or otherwise bother him in the middle of the night, but with sheltering in a small room together, the ragged breathing from his panic would have woken any shinobi (except Gai perhaps).

"I can. Just...need a minute." He sighed as he settled back in his bedroll. "If you were sleeping, I'm sorry."

Guess who just realized they never properly introduced Gabby on this blog ? Backstory under keep reading ;)

Gabby is the great-grandchild of Antonio Luccessi, the man who founded Militech. With this name came immense wealth, and lot of pressure that she slowly caved under. Starting in her teens made to compete with her twin without ever coming on top, and continuing into adulthood when Gabby quit school with a mere master in sociology at age 21, while her older siblings all got at least one PhD.

Since Gabby didn't want to study anymore, she was made to work for Militech. She wasn't as strong as her older brother, as clever as her twin. All she had to stand up from the rest was her natural charms. She was quickly trained to become a double agent, and infiltrated the Arasaka HQ in Night City in late 2077, using the mayhem caused by an attack on the tower to get in easily.

Except, Gabby didn't take her job seriously. Spying was boring, and the connections she made served a different purpose. Gabby played the naive novice to her superiors, who quickly became sugar mommies and daddies, sharing with her secrets that had little to do with their corporation.

Her family eventually realized her lack of commitment and fired her. It was one too many disappointments for the Luccessi family. Her father, leader of Militech, revealed to Arasaka they had a spy, fully aware of what would happen of Gabby.

Arasaka assassins hunted Gabby down the streets of Night City and let her to bleed out and drown in Del Coronado Bay.

But Gabby survived. She regained the shore without a single wound on her body, all cuts healed up as if nothing had happened. She tried to walk home, but met with local thugs hoping to get some eddies of the corporat. Mentally weakened, Gabby decided to fight them, getting stabbed and shot in the process without dying, without being harmed in a way that mattered.

Realizing she couldn't die, Gabby found a way to get the attention she so dearly craved, found something she was better at than anyone else : being an XBD actor. Starting independently under the name Venere Di Luce (Venus of Light), her snuff films caught the Death's-Head Moth's attention. They found in her a reusable toy, one that wouldn't break as easily, and Gabby found an ever-growing audience of sick yet devoted fans.

She never questioned her almost immortality, opting for the theory Militech might've experimented on her as a kid to strengthen the one Luccessi child that never did well enough. She doesn't know about the pact her mother made to marry her "father", Antonio Luccessi. She doesn't know she's a cambion.

Her disturbing XBDs are greatly enjoyed in Maelstrom circle, who welcomed her into the Totentanz with opened arms, free drinks and the hope she'd agree to reenact her most famous scenes with them (which she sometimes would). All eyes are on her when she makes an appearance at the club, to the growing annoyance of Maelstrom leader, Royce.

The video begins pointed at the ground. It pans quickly up and settles on Lil crouched over a wild Watchog, which is crying out in pain. It has been caught in a snap-trap.

"Lou, are you getting this?"

"Yeah! You need help?"

"No, I've got it. Just keep your eyes peeled and stay low."

Lil speaks soothingly to the Watchog. She then gestures to Lyze, a Hisuian Decidueye, and Simba, a Luxray, to help her. The three of them manage to break the trap and free the Watchog.

Lil and her Pokémon back up.

"Okay Lou, you're up."

"Right!"

The camera shakes before a hand holding a Pokéball comes into view. Lou explains to the wild Watchog that he's going to catch it so they can get it help. The Watchog clearly doesn't put up any fight. Lou throws the ball and moment later it clicks, indicating a successful catch.

Lil goes about disassembling the trap.

"HEY! WHAT DO YE THINK YER DOIN?!"

The camera pans over to view 2 burly looking men with equally burly Pokémon. A conkeldurr and a throh.

"Poachers! Are you the ones that set these traps?"

The men ignore Lil, until one notices Lyze.

"Dats it! Dats the one we were tryna catch!" The poacher says, frantically gesturing at Lyze.

"Excuse me? You set all these traps because you were trying to catch my Pokémon?! And you hurt my other Pokémon not to mention all the wild ones!" Lil is visibly growing furious, as are Lyze and Simba.

"Ah, shut up, you stupid kid. Get the overgrown hoothoot thing and let's get outta here!"

The poachers' Pokémon spring into action. Lil reaches for another Pokéball of her own.

"Simba! And Bub-OOF"

The throh dodges Simba's attack and back-hands Lil. She goes flying and crashes into the brush.]

Skye’s PGTE Read-A-Long Book 1 chapter 1: Knife (part 1)

“How many Praesi does it take to change a lantern’s wick?

We have our first chapter with it all being in Catherine’s POV, all chapters will be from her point of view unless they are the prologue/epilogue or interludes.

We open with Cat fighting in the Pit. Specifically the moment when she gets a black eye from her opponent, Fenn. Since he’s a lot bigger then our girl so she wants to end it fast, because he has her beat in both strength and endurance. While we get descriptions of them circling each other, a few punches thrown, and the cheering/jeering of the crowd Fenn mocks Cat by asking if she’s going to throw this fight as well. Cat admits in her internal monologue to the audience that she had in fact thrown the last fight, as betting on herself was beginning to lose it’s profitability due to her winning streak. And that after this win she’ll be able to afford a semester at the War Collage.

She also notes to us that if he think that’s trash talk, he’s bad at it. She asks if he’s scared of “a girl half {his} size” and that he should get his manhood checked which gets the reaction she wants out of him. A few more punches are exchanged before Cat gets a good kick to his gut, knocks him over and then a brutal stomp on his ankle. She has a twinge of guilt but, this is the Pit, so no mercy. She gets ready to do another stomp,to the ribs but Fenn concedes before she actually does. Cat climbs out of the pit and gets some congratulations before heading over to Booker, who is not Named but it’s what everyone calls her. Catherine notes to us that there is no glass in the windows due to having glass being too expensive with the latest tax hitch. The amount of winnings Cat collects from Booker is also smaller than it is supposed to be due to the taxes. Those winnings are usually paid imperial coins called denarii, which Catherine says makes the whole situation more wretched.

Booker makes a comment about making “the old country proud” before giving Cat her money, since they both have Deoraithe ancestry. Neither have gone to Daoine (the duchy Deoraithe come from) but the ethnicity has a reputation for being good fighters, which is how Catherine was able to argue her way into the fights. Daoine is also the only part of Callow that doesn’t have an Imperial Governor placed in charge of it.

We get some expination about how Mazus, the imperial govoner for Laure, is constantly raising taxes. How he made what in his last term were temporary taxes permanent. And how he is generally bad for Laure.

After talking with Booker Cat goes and see’s Zacharis, the mage that the Pit and Booker keep around to heal the fighters. He is the only one who refers to Catherine by her first name instead of as Foundling, him doing so annoys her. He is a drunk, and gives Booker a significant portion of the money for the healing he does in exchange for a lot wine. He is just sober enough to heal, to keep him focused Cat brings up the topic of the difference between the healing a mage does vs the healing a priest does. He says that “priest cheat” just praying and it fixing, whereas mages have to know what they are doing otherwise the person they are healing might wind up more hurt then when they started. When she gose to pay him Zacharis gives her back 2 of the 7 coins she gives him to pay for the healing. Noting that since she’ll be 16 soon, she’s going to get kicked out of the orphanage she lives in.

Catherine make’s her way to the Rat’s Nest. This is the bar that she works in. As she goes there we get to learn about the owner and his son. The owner, Harrion, doesn’t approve of Cat’s fighting in the pit, but since it’s the end of the month and should be a slow day she is likely to get Leyran as company in the main room. Cat doesn’t have a high opinion of him, calling him a layabout and saying that he believes he is the most charming man since the Shinning Prince from before the Conquest. She describes her reflection while she washes the blood and sweat off of her face and neck before switching into her other shirt (which is her nice one) and heading out from the back room. She describes how the main room looks with rickety wooden walls and a dirt floor. She also describes the minstrel, a girl named Ellerna, who has decided to play to her audience of mostly legionaries by playing “The Legionary Song” which is a song about the legions going to attempt to conquer Callow again, from before they succeed.

 Before she can get started on working Leyran waves her over and says that his father want’s to speak with her before she gets started. She heads upstairs where there is two rooms that Harrion and his son live in and two rooms that he rents out. Catherine note’s that it is to early to be going over the accounts, and that a big reason she was hired was for her ability to read and wright. Harrion asks her to read something for him,which is a letter saying that all establishments that serve liquor need to join with the guilds or get a tax hike. The guilds are already expensive and since the Empire has taken over the city not very effective as anything but a protection racket. It is made clear that either way, Harrion will not be able to keep her on as regularly as he does now. Neither of them are happy about it but Governors only answer to the Dread Empress, who Cat doubts cares about “her buddy Mazus being a robber baron” so far from her. They agree that Cat will stay on until the end of the month, with the empty gesture that Harrion will try to find a way to keep her on long term, since he knows she’s saving up for something. She heads back downstairs to do her shift and finish out the night.

And that is where I will cut for this part, because I forgot how long these chapters are. On to the changes made between drafts:

The quote goes from being “Overheard in a Laure tavern” to “Popular Callowan Joke, circa 863 A.D.” Her opponents reaction to her adding a spring to her step to see if he’d flinch goes from “serene as a pond” to a preist. His trash talk also gets a descriptor change from swinging at steel to a scarecrow. We get Booker’s name a lot sooner in the new draft, Catherine mentioning her in the internal monologue during the fight instead of when the fight is over. As well as the implication that  Booker might had paid her to throw, as opposed to it just being about the odds.

Fenn is also referred to as a boy in the new version, where in the first draft he was refereed to as a man. There are explicitly youth matches now. The Wall that the Deoraithe have held for centuries now is called the Grass March. The imperial governor’s name got changed from Mazus to Kojo.

 We get mention of the Hedge Guild, a mages guild that get’s brought up later in the first draft, with note that he’s not there because of his drinking. This is where it is revealed that Catherine is a year older than in the first draft, being almost 17. As she leaves the Pit for the Rat’s Nest is where the new draft splits the chapter, with the first one being “Knife part one” and the next being “knife part two”, which does not have a quote of it’s own. We get more world building about the Silver Lake that most of the large cities of Callow had been built around.

In Knife part 2 we get the mention of The Eyes, which is Black’s spy organization that we will hear about in draft 1 in 2-3 chapters. We also get mention of the pre-Conquest ruling family, the Fairfax, and how they likely didn’t really care about the common people no matter what the older generation says.

We get more mentions throughout this second section of the chapter about her desire to fix her home through going to the War Collage. We also get more of a timeline for when she needs needs to leave for the Collage. And find out where it is sooner (the capital of the Empire Ater). Draft 2 has added that she was learning how to use a sword for two years before the story starts. Which in chapter 3 of draft 1 is when she actually starts learning with Black.

My opinion time, because there is a lot of changes. I don’t get the point in changing the governors name, it just seems silly to me tbh. Also, a change in the descriptors of Fenn during the fight are, weird imo. The addition of having youth matches is neat. I really like how we establish some of the things that come into play, like the Hedge Guild, the War Collage, and the Eyes, early. Also, she already knows some sword fighting now, which I really like, though her determination to get good quickly in version 1 was interesting, so I can’t wait to see how that is handled.

Also, sorry that getting this out took weeks, I got a new job that has been kicking my ass with hours. I’ll hopefully get the rest of Knife out quickly.
