*A letter slides under your door. You break the badly and clearly homemade wax seal, and read the letter inside. It reads:
"I heard you were good. Some of my colleagues say the best. I don't believe anyone can be the best. So I present to you a challenge. None of my informants could find what I'm looking for. No matter what I try, Im left flailing blindly like an astronaut whose oxygen has just been cut. "
*It begins to rain heavily, you hear the guttering outside your window creek under the strain of the downpour. Really should fix that, one of these days.*
"Find me a post. The post in question features text and video. Describing a date where two people listened to the isolated vocals to the song "Eye of the Tiger." This post is vital to my operations. I have some powerful connections, and you will be substantially rewarded for your efforts."
The letter is signed "MCCWR" and contains a sigil you don't recognise. Better get on with the case, detective.
how interestin'... another mysterious letter. as a private eye, i had become accustomed to correspondence like these. but this one was intriguing me, mainly the signature. i'd be lyin' if i said i didn't spend some time lookin' for what "MCCWR" meant, but when that turned up blank, i started my research.
headin' over to the Search Bar, i asked Google for "tumblr isolated vocals eye of the tiger post" and was handed the exact link rather quickly, allowin' me to rush back to the office and file it away.
here you go, my mysterious client! i look forward to our next correspondence, as well as our meeting. until then, have a great day!

anyways i compiled some “getting into gamedev” resources together and figured i should share them here too in case anyone wanted them...?? most of these are specific to unity so if you were thinking about picking it up or wanted more resources on it well here you go (also heads up most of the youtube links have an autoplay video when you click on them!!):
game makers toolkit is just now starting a series about them learning how to make games as a complete beginner (at least on the technical side), if youve never made a game before but wanted to, following along with this might be a nice place to start since you’ll both be starting from the same place (theres also a ton of videos on his channel about the actual game design side of things)
brackeys is no longer active but they have a ton of great unity videos. has a few “build a game from scratch” videos that are great to follow along to just learn the workflow and get started
mix and jam takes things from other games and recreates them in unity and documents the whole process, a Really good way to learn things for me
ilheartgamedev pretty recently popped up, and their videos have been really good !
sebastian lague goes over some more advanced stuff but also documents and walks through everything really well, really great videos and fun to follow along even if you have no idea what hes talking about. he also has a few that are like “build a game from scratch”
gamedevguide is another good unity tutorial channel
catlikecoding is text based and has a lot of good unity tutorials
and these are more for the visual/shader side of things
harry avakis has a ton of good shader tutorials plus does a big collection of technical art and vfx every week
ronja does some reallyy great and comprehensive shader tutorials
minionsart has a bunch of little bite sized shader tutorials that are great to follow along with
simon schreibt has a huge collection of vfx resources and techniques across different engines
alan zucconi also makes great tutorials, some of them a bit more on the advanced side
making stuff look good in unity - channel about making stuff look good in unity

Birds of a Feather
For @notsafeformurphy who was having a day of it the other day and we got to talking and.... oops this happened. This honestly started out as a nature docu au and ended up a coffee shop au? Idk man.... Anyway, Shay I hope you enjoy this!
Also tagging @herostag since it was requested. and @jaskierswolf cause I think they’re gonna start yelling at me if i keep forgetting. Going to try to get my tag list back together if anyone is interested. <3 <3 <3 Hope yall enjoy Jaskier huffed as he flopped over again, his body refusing to just relax down into his mattress and let him sleep. It had been a stressful day and to make matters worse, it had been the third night in a row where he was simply unable to sleep.
Giving up, he reached for his phone, scrolling through youtube for a moment, looking for something that he could just zone out to for a little while. Usually he would put on music or white noise but even that didn’t seem like it would be helpful. He had to find something extremely dull and maybe a bit pretty.
He scrolled past a thumbnail of three large men in park uniforms. Two of them looked like they were at least somewhat interested in being there while one tall man with near white hair simply scowled at the camera.
Wild Wednesdays with the Rivia Nature Reserve the title read.
“Okay, I’ll bite,” Jaskier huffed as he rolled onto his stomach. He pulled the kickstand of his phone case out and set it up before pressing play and curling his arms around his pillow.
“This week, we’ll be talking to Geralt Rivia, our resident raptor specialist about what goes into rehabilitation efforts when it comes to conservation,” someone said off camera, cheerily. When the camera panned to Geralt Rivia however, he did not seem to share the narrator’s same upbeat tone.
For a few minutes, the narrator off camera seemed to try to ask Geralt about himself, only getting stilted answers and that same scowl that had been in the thumbnail. Jaskier snorted with a smirk.
“You’re not having any of this, are you? You’re gorgeous though,” he chuckled. He felt his back relax as he yawned, snuggling closer into his pillow.
And then it happened. From off camera, someone handed Geralt a leather glove that he put on easily before taking a cord. He clicked a bit and the scowl he had moments ago melted into a fond smile.
“And who is this?” the narrator asked. They clearly had picked up on the shift in Geralt’s demeanor as a small falcon took up perch on his forearm.
He actually cooed at the bird for a moment before holding it up for the camera. “This is Roach. She’s one of our recent rescues.” He smiled, a barely there tilt of his lips and his honey colored eyes softened. Jaskier got the impression on anyone else, it would have been a full grin.
“Oh, I like that look,” Jaskier murmured, feeling his cheeks heat up.
“And what is Roach?” the person asked off camera.
Geralt took a step back, turning his arm slightly, causing the bird to flap agitatedly at him as she kept her balance. “Yes, I know, but I have to show off how pretty you are,” he said to the bird, fond and warm.
“Oh no,” Jaskier whispered into his pillow. “He’s soft and hot.”
“Roach here is a red-tailed hawk. They’re pretty common through North America,” he explained, pointing out the red-brown of her tail. The hawk nipped at him as he got her to open her wings for the camera and he only chuckled. “She’s about six, the same age as my daughter actually. And,” he leaned in conspiratorially, “I’ll be honest with you, I’m not sure which one is less well behaved.”
Roach must have understood a bit of that because she gave a cry before nipping at Geralt’s hair, clearly annoyed.
“Listen, if you weren’t so hornery, I wouldn’t say it,” he said to Roach, pulling another scowl but there was clearly no heat in it.
This was not the same man from the thumbnail or the same man that barely gave answers about himself at the beginning of the clip. When that bird sat on his arm, he lit up and Jaskier was weak.
Geralt answered a few other questions about hawks and about the reserves program for rehabbing hawks, his voice deep and gravely. He would have sounded gruff if not for how much he clearly loved what he did.
Geralt looked at Roach a little sadly. “Unfortunately for our little lady here, she won’t be able to return to the wild. Due to her injuries when she came to us, she won’t be able to hunt on her own,” he gave her a soft smile before he petted down her neck gently.
Jaskier’s eyes were starting to feel heavy. He had turned into the pillow, letting Geralt’s voice wash over him with simple facts about red-tail hawks as he drifted off to sleep. It hadn’t been dull at all but there was something about the way Geralt spoke that just melted him into his mattress.
When he woke, his phone was dead, probably from being set to autoplay. As it charged, he looked at the videos that had played while he was asleep, most of them from the Rivia Nature Reserve. There were a few specials with other team members but Jaskier picked out the ones that mentioned Geralt Rivia directly.
It had become a near routine and soon, Jaskier found that he just slept better after watching those nature clips. Sometimes, Geralt wasn’t even on camera, simply walking through the process of population counting for the reserve as the camera panned around to different birds up in the trees. There were other videos featuring Roach the red-tailed hawk as well and it was clear that she was a favorite, not only of Geralt’s but the viewers as well.
Within three weeks, Jaskier had made his way through nearly the whole catalog of the reserve’s videos. He knew he would move on from tall, silver and brooding and find his next sleep fix but for now he simply enjoyed it.
~
He should have said no, he should have mentioned that he simply did not do morning shifts, and there was a reason for that, but Essi had been persistent, almost feral about him taking her shift.
“Please, Jask. I promise, you won’t regret it!” She grinned at him and there was something in her eyes that sent up a dozen red flags.
“What are you plotting?” He asked flatly, squinting at her over his glass of wine.
“Not a thing, darling, just trust me on this,” she giggled, sipping her own wine neatly.
~
It hadn’t been a terrible morning, though Jaskier was barely managing to stay upright by the the coffee grinder. He was used to staying up long nights and it hadn’t changed anything when he knew he would have to open.
His phone buzzed in his pocket.
I know you mentioned he had a kid, but he’s single. You’re gonna want to put a blueberry muffin in right now.
He blinked at his phone, squinting as he tried to decode just what the fuck Essi was saying.
What?
But he put in the blueberry muffin, his phone on the counter as he watched the three little dots dance where Essi was texting back.
You still owe me a no questions.
“What the fuck is she even-” Jaskier heard the bell above the door just as he set the timer for the oven.
“-and so I tell him that if he isn’t going to at least make an attempt to clear out the back trails, we’re going to find a new contractor.” Came a voice behind him.
Jaskier froze, his hand on his phone. He nearly threw it in a panic. He recognized that voice. He’d recognize that voice in the dark, though to be fair, he usually listened to it in the dark.
He glanced over his shoulder and sure enough, Geralt Rivia was standing at his counter with two others from the nature reserve.
“Be with you in just a minute!” he tried for cheery and landed firmly in panicked. He ducked behind the large coffee machine and shot a text back to Essi.
I haven’t decided on whether or not I love you more than anything or if I’m ever going to
speak to you again!
Have fun! ;)
That bitch. It had been a setup! He adored her, the meddling little sneak. He schooled his face the best he could, knowing full well that his ears were still the color of the strawberry frap they served.
“Morning, what can I get you guys?” He asked as he wet his lips, trying not to stare right into Geralt’s gorgeous face.
“Three coffees, a blueberry muffin warmed up and a plain bagel, untoasted,” Geralt said offhandedly as he looked around. “No Essi today?”
“Uh, no. I’m filing in this morning. Jaskier, at your service.” As he dipped his head in a mock bow he internally cursed himself. One day, one normal day, that was all he asked for. “Hope the bagel isn’t for Roach. I’m not sure she’d like it. How is she? We haven’t seen her much recently?” He shot off without thinking as he started to pour the coffees. He froze again as his brain caught up with his mouth.
Behind Geralt, both of the men snorted. “Looks like you’ve got a fan, pretty boy,” the darker haired one jostled Geralt’s shoulder with a smirk.
Geralt only stood there, tilting his head slightly as though he wasn’t sure what had just happened.
“Ah, I mean…” Jaskier fumbled, nearly spilling one of the coffees down his own front.
“She’s doing fine actually,” there was a soft smile on his face, the same he wore when he got to handle the birds directly and Jaskier could feel himself melt on the spot. “Naughty as ever. Learned a new trick to take a swipe at Lambert here if he’s holding the feed bucket,” there was a low rumble of a chuckle.
The dark haired one behind Geralt stopped laughing abruptly. “She’s a menace.” He growled, picking up his own coffee from the counter.
Behind Jaskier, the oven dinged. “Oh and your muffin!” He turned, letting himself have the moment his back was to them to silently scream. He had been tricked! He had been set up! He was going to try to get this man’s number and he would never hear the end of it.
“You already had it in?” Geralt asked, that smile still in place.
“What can I say, we make sure to take care of our favorite customers.” He was almost proud of himself at how smoothly that had come out as he turned to look back at Geralt. He should have been paying attention to the muffin as it dropped, missing the bag completely and splatting on the floor.
“Fuck,” Jaskier nearly cried. “I am so sorry. Give me, just a moment, I’ll get another one in for you.”
He watched as Geralt ducked his head, smirking. “Would you like to meet her?” He gave another tilt of his head, his eyes clearly looking Jaskier up and down.
He was sure he had died. This wasn’t real. This was the good place. Or the bad place. Either way, this place was the place his soul had clearly left his body. He stood there, cold muffin in hand as he gaped at Geralt.
“Uh-”
“You don’t,” Geralt cleared his throat, “I was just wondering since you seemed… to be a… fan.” His face slipped into a scowl and no. No that wouldn’t do at all.
“I would love to, yeah. I’m off at three?”
“Oh! Jaskier! Thank you for coming in to open. I can take it from here,” Essi slipped in beside him, taking the muffin from his hand. “Morning, Dr. Rivia,” she nearly sang, her face smug.
“Dead. You’re very very dead when I see you again,” Jaskier whispered to her though he couldn’t stop grinning.
“So you were saying?” Geralt asked, leaning against the counter.
“Turns out, I’m free as a bird, you’d say.” Jaskier chuckled as he slipped his apron off and made his way around the counter.
Geralt snorted and rolled his eyes but took his coffee and muffin from Essi. “You know that phrase ‘eat like a bird’ is really not that good of a way of saying that someone doesn’t eat much?”
Behind them, Lambert scoffed. “Here we fucking go again. I said I was sorry for bringing it up!”
Later that afternoon he found himself wearing a glove similar to the one he had first seen Geralt in, a small tawny owl bobbing on his arm as he looked on in wonder. He had met Roach and she had nipped at his hair and shirt, screeching when food wasn’t produced.
“Hmm, let’s get Scorpion. He won’t tear you to shreds,” Geralt gave Roach a fond little tap on her wing with the back of his fingers.
By the end of the day he left with a few knicks in his fingers and a phone number. He had never slept better.

I think you mentioned listening to podcasts? Do you have any favorites to reccommend? I've run out of content :(
that i do !
im not entirely sure what kind of podcast you'd be interested in but i'll throw out a few of the goodies in my huge library of stuff , i'll miss out a few of the HUGE podcasts that have been all over tumblr though
a LOT of it is true crime or human interest stuff , or history because im nerd ,, and a few of these dont have nearly enough attention so [shrug] i'll try to keep this short i guess lol this isnt EVERYTHING ive got in my library or listened series' by any measure
i AM gonna pop a shout to both Stuff You Missed in History Class and Stuff You Should Know from iHeartRadio because their HUGE archives have kept me from losing my mind many times over , and they cover a wide range of both important and wacky topics
BomBARDed (ongoing) this is the only fiction podcast i have happening right now really but its DAMN GOOD ONE .... it's an actual-play D&D 5E podcast in the DMs own musically-inspired world, focussed on a group of multiclass bards going to music school !! and all players (+DM) are members of the Texas band Lindby !! and they actually use and play music in the show with one original song an episode !! Kyle's worldbuilding and storycraft are truly incredible, and (Nick) Goodrich, (also Nick) Spurrier, and Ali's characters are in depth and interesting as well as an absolute powerhouse :') i actually made a piece for its first fanzine, Bardic Dreaming, which published earlier this year and is free to view now, all the players and the community are super wholesome its just very good overall 💙
History & Humans;
Fall of Civilisations (ongoing) legit one of my favourite podcast finds, im so glad my youtube autoplayed one of these ... it took me like 2 hours to realise it was 1) not the same as what was playing before and 2) had been on for 2 hours and wasnt near finished lmao. anyway, this is a series by historical fiction writer Paul Cooper, and is honest to all thats good one of the best documentary series ive encountered in years - and ive consumed a LOT of documentaries. it covered the downfall of various civilisations through history, and the episodes run from an hour to FOUR hours depending on the topic. its so chill to listen to and just get done, but over the pandemic all of the episodes have been given full movie-quality video versions too on youtube if youre more of a visual person.
Casting Lots: A Survival Cannibalism Podcast (on series break) yeah that says that lol ... its a SUPER niche topic but its very interesting and treated very well despite being kind of comical at times, the hosts are just naturally funny lol ... it delves around from the history of cannibalism in whole regions to specific incidents as recently as the 1970s, and of course the first episode is about the Donner Party, and it covers things ive never heard of despite being kind of important ?? anyway Alix and Carmella are good eggs
Sawbones (ongoing) i probably dont need to mention much here other than say that Justin and Sydnee saved me from being SO BORED sooo often, the history of medicine is wacky as hell and its what most of my history GCSE was on so [shrugs]
Cautionary Tales (on series break) this was a wild-card find lol ... it's by Tim Harford "the undercover economist" who writes for the Financial Times, and its topics kind of weave modern topics and science with how to learn from historical errors ... its a bit weird but well worth a go, also each series has a few celebrity guest voice actors which is pretty awesome
Ephemeral (ongoing) this is a very strange but thought provoking series about sounds and other things just barely saved. topics include the last castrato, the hello girls, hand-stamped records, the spread of kīkā kila music, and acoustic fossils of wild places.
Neat! The Boozecast (ongoing) history and bartending whats not to like lol ... hosted by Teylor Smirl and now their dad Tommy, they're just digging around in how important booze is to human culture
True Crime (white collar and weirdness);
Swindled (ongoing) this is an amazing show full stop. A Concerned Citizen details some of the most impactful and unruly things to happen in white collar and corporate crime. very factually accurate but given the sheer bullshit of the topics the deadpan snarking is [chefs kiss] absolutely warranted ..
American Scandal (on series break) this one is a series within a series type, and spends a few episodes at a time poking holes in some of America's biggest scandals, from a dramatised but fact-based point of view. such as what the hell was going on with Enron, how big tobacco was forced to own up to covering its own ass, how Iran-Contra happened, etc. it also now has a sister show called British Scandal, which does the same thing for British cases but with a slightly different format.
Missing in Alaska (finished) this was a fascinating series, a deep dive into what happened to two US government officials who disappeared on a small chartered flight in Alaska in 1972. it goes some really strange places, but it actually turned up a lot of previously unknown information through the audience. John Walczak's new series in a new feed is Missing on 9/11 which looks into what happened to Dr Sneha Philip.
Pretend (ongoing) Host Javier Leiva holds interviews with anyone living a lie, or who have been touched by them. con artists, snake oil salesmen, former cult members, catfishing victims, anyone and everyone.
Power: The Maxwells (finished) hosted by journalist Tara Palmeri, the story of media tycoon Robert Maxwell from nothing to empire to mysterious death and the scandals uncovered after he was gone.
Lets Talk About Sects (ongoing) Sarah Steele covering cults from around the world, in particular those in Australia - where she is from. She often has former members on the show to share their stories, and share knowledge of how they left. each story has the relevant content warnings at the start of each episode.
Brainwashed (finished) investigation of the CIA's covert mind control experiments, centred on the experiments performed at a hospital in Montreal, and its cultural impact.
Dr Death (2 series finished) two series investigating huge cases of fraud and medical malpractice, and how they were brought to a stop. series 1 covers Dr Duntsch and his horribly butchered neurosurgery, series 2 covers Dr Fata and his fraudulent cancer clinic
The Immaculate Deception (finished) untangling the weird and disturbing fertility fraud of Dr Jan Karbaat, who fathered children himself through his fertility clinic, and the impact of his deception. later episodes also touch on other similar cases.
True Crime (Violent/General);
The Casual Criminalist (ongoing) Simon Whistler of-the-many-youtube-channels cold reads a script about the case of the day, with some of his daft commentary thrown in.
Southern Fried True Crime (ongoing) Crimes from the American South hosted by Erica Kelley, she puts all the facts out there but refreshingly for true crime she doesnt hesitate to tell you if she thinks someone is human garbage lol
They Walk Among Us (ongoing) probably one of the most popular UK crime podcasts, very measured and well put together, not weird or annoying about it either.
All Crime No Cattle (ongoing, feed slowed down for now) specifically about crimes from Texas, hosted by Erin and Shay, they're very sensitive hosts and a lot of the cases they cover shed light on why the Texas criminal system is how it is or show an impact at a national level
Canadian True Crime (ongoing) Canadian crime from an Aussie who's lived there for a decade, Kristi is again a sensitive and measured host covering some important topics
True Crime (Violent/Deep Dive);
Hitman (finished) journalist Jasmyn Morris digs around in the sticky tangle around a book published by fringe publisher Paladin Press, and its apparent use as a blueprint in the killing of a mother, her friend and her 8 year old boy for financial gain.
Camp Hell: Anneewakee (ongoing) this series is exploring how a wilderness camp "correctional facility" was endorsed by the Georgia care and juvenile reform system, despite widespread abuses and shady practices the whole time. warning for csa and child cruelty throughout.
True Crime Bullshit (on series break) this one is a huge huge rabbithole but a very interesting one where the host Josh Hallmark has spent years digging into the life and potential crimes of Israel Keyes. Keyes is often mentioned as a serial killer with no pattern, but in picking it apart thats not quite true, and has sparked some re-evaluations of missing persons cases and stumbling upon information the FBI has redacted organically. there's also a series in the middle looking into the crimes of Kelly Cochran
Forgotten: Women of Juárez (finished) this series looks into the huge numbers of missing women of Ciudad Juárez, the strange circumstances surrounding them, and the potential cover-ups and corruptions on both sides of the border, trying to give a voice to all of the forgotten women and girls and their families without answers. the series itself is finished, but a spanish language edition is being released every week now.
aaaaaand i'll call it there before i list everything lol, i hope you find something to plug your boredom hole with !!

A television show (often simply TV show) is any content produced for broadcast via over-the-air, satellite, cable, or internet and typically viewed on a television set, excluding breaking news, advertisements, or trailers that are typically placed between shows. Television shows are most often scheduled well ahead of time and appear on electronic guides or other TV listings.
Livestreaming, what’s in it for us? Technology has advanced significantly since the first internet livestream but we still turn to video for almost everything. Let’s take a brief look at why livestreaming has been held back so far, and what tech innovations will propel livestreaming to the forefront of internet culture. Right now livestreaming is limited to just a few applications for mass public use and the rest are targeted towards businesses. Livestreaming is to today what home computers were in the early 611110s. The world of livestreaming is waiting for a metaphorical VIC-110, a very popular product that will make live streaming as popular as video through iterations and competition. Shared Video Do you remember when YouTube wasn’t the YouTube you know today? In 11005, when Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim activated the domain “www.youtube.com" they had a vision. Inspired by the lack of easily accessible video clips online, the creators of YouTube saw a world where people could instantly access videos on the internet without having to download files or search for hours for the right clip. Allegedly inspired by the site “Hot or Not”, YouTube originally began as a dating site (think 110s video dating), but without a large ingress of dating videos, they opted to accept any video submission. And as we all know, that fateful decision changed all of our lives forever. Because of YouTube, the world that YouTube was born in no longer exists. The ability to share videos on the scale permitted by YouTube has brought us closer to the “global village” than I’d wager anyone thought realistically possible. And now with technologies like Starlink, we are moving closer and closer to that eventuality. Although the shared video will never become a legacy technology, before long it will truly have to share the stage with its sibling, livestreaming. Although livestreaming is over 110 years old, it hasn’t gained the incredible worldwide adoption YouTube has. This is largely due to infrastructure issues such as latency, quality, and cost. Latency is a priority when it comes to livestreams. Latency is the time it takes for a video to be captured and point a, and viewed at point b. In livestreaming this is done through an encoder-decoder function. Video and audio are captured and turned into code, the code specifies which colours display, when, for how long, and how bright. The code is then sent to the destination, such as a streaming site, where it is decoded into colours and audio again and then displayed on a device like a cell phone. The delay between the image being captured, the code being generated, transmitted, decoded, and played is consistently decreasing. It is now possible to stream content reliably with less than 5 seconds of latency. Sub-second latency is also common and within the next 110 or so years we may witness the last cable broadcast (or perhaps cable will be relegated to the niche market of CB radios, landlines, and AM transmissions). On average, the latency associated with a cable broadcast is about 6 seconds. This is mainly due to limitations on broadcasts coming from the FCC or another similar organization in the interests of censorship. In terms of real-life, however, a 6 second delay on a broadcast is not that big of a deal. In all honesty a few hours’ delay wouldn’t spell the doom of mankind. But for certain types of broadcasts such as election results or sporting events, latency must be kept at a minimum to maximize the viability of the broadcast. Sensitive Content is Hard to Monitor Advances in AI technologies like computer vision have changed the landscape of internet broadcasting. Before too long, algorithms will be better able to prevent sensitive and inappropriate content from being broadcast across the internet on livestreaming platforms. Due to the sheer volume of streams it is much harder to monitor and contain internet broadcasts than it is cable, but we are very near a point where the ability to reliably detect and interrupt inappropriate broadcasts instantaneously. Currently, the majority of content is monitored by humans. And as we’ve learned over the last 50 or so years, computers and machines are much more reliable and consistent than humans could ever be. Everything is moving to an automated space and content moderation is not far behind. We simply don’t have the human resources to monitor every livestream, but with AI we won’t need it. Video Quality In the last decade we have seen video quality move from 7110p to 60110p to 4K and beyond. I can personally remember a time when 4110p was standard and 7110p was considered a luxury reserved for only the most well funded YouTube videos. But times have changed and people expect video quality of at least 7110p. Live streaming has always had issues meeting the demands of video quality. When watching streams on platforms like Twitch, the video can cut out, lag, drop in quality, and stutter all within about 45 seconds. Of course this isn’t as rampant now as it once was, however, sudden drops in quality will likely be a thorn in the side of live streams for years to come. Internet Speeds Perhaps the most common issue one needs to tackle when watching a live stream is their internet speed. Drops in video quality and connection are often due to the quality of the internet connection between the streamer and the viewer. Depending on the location of the parties involved, their distance from the server, and allocated connection speed the stream may experience some errors. And that’s just annoying. Here is a list of the recommended connection speeds for 5 of the most popular streaming applications:
Facebook Live recommends a max bit rate of 4,000 kbps, plus a max audio bit rate of 61111 kbps. YouTube Live recommends a range between 6,500 and 4,000 kbps for video, plus 61111 kbps for audio. Twitch recommends a range between 11,500 and 4,000 kbps for video, plus up to 660 kbps for audio. Live streams are typically available for those of us with good internet. Every day more people are enjoying high quality speeds provided by fibre optic lines, but it will be a while until these lines can truly penetrate rural and less populated areas. Perhaps when that day comes we will see an upsurge of streaming coming from these areas. Language Barrier You can pause and rewind a video if you didn’t understand or hear something, and many video sharing platforms provide the option for subtitles. But you don’t really get that with a live stream. Pausing and rewinding an ongoing stream defeats the purpose of watching a stream. However, the day is soon approaching where we will be able to watch streams, in our own native language with subtitles, even if the streamer speaks something else. Microsoft Azure’s Cognitive Speech Services can give livestreaming platforms an edge in the future as it allows for speech to be automatically translated from language to language. The ability to watch a livestream in real time, with the added benefit of accurate subtitles in one’s own language, will also assist language learners in deciphering spontaneous speech. Monetization One of the most damning features of a live stream is the inherent difficulty in monetizing it. As mentioned before, videos can be paused and ads inserted. In videos, sponsored segments can be bought where the creators of the video read lines provided to them. Ads can run before videos etc. But in the case of a spontaneous live stream sponsored content will stick out. In the case of platforms like YouTube there are ways around ads. Ad blockers, the skip ad button, the deplorable premium account, and fast forwarding through sponsored segments all work together to limit the insane amount of ads we see every day. But in the case of a live stream, ads are a bit more difficult. Live streaming platforms could implement sponsored overlays and borders or a similar graphical method of advertising, but the inclusion of screen shrinking add-ons like that may cause issues on smaller devices where screen size is already limited. Monthly subscriptions are already the norm, but in the case of a live streaming platform (Twitch Prime not withstanding), it may be difficult for consumers to see the benefit in paying for a service that is by nature unscheduled and unpredictable. Live streams are great for quick entertainment, but as they can go on for hours at a time, re-watching streamed content is inherently time consuming. For this reason, many streamers cut their recorded streams down and upload them to platforms like YouTube where they are monetized through a partnership program. It is likely that for other streaming platforms to really take off, they would need to partner with a larger company and offer services similar to Amazon and Twitch. What Might the Future of Livestreaming Look Like?
It is difficult to say, as it is with any speculation about the future. Technologies change and advance beyond the scope of our imaginations virtually every decade. But one thing that is almost a certainty is the continued advancement in our communications infrastructure. Fibre optic lines are being run to smaller towns and cities. Services like Google Fiber, which is now only available at 6 gigabit per second, have shown the current capabilities of our internet infrastructure. As services like this expand we can expect to see a large increase in the number of users seeking streams as the service they expect to interact with will be more stable than it currently is now. Livestreaming, at the moment, is used frequently by gamers and Esports and hasn’t yet seen the mass commercial expansion that is coming. The future of live streaming is on its way. For clues for how it may be in North America we can look to Asia (taobao). Currently, livestreaming is quite popular in the East in terms of a phenomenon that hasn’t quite taken hold on us Westerners, Live Commerce. With retail stores closing left and right, we can’t expect Amazon to pick up all of the slack (as much as I’m sure they would like to). Live streaming affords entrepreneurs and retailers a new opportunity for sales and growth. Live streaming isn’t the way of the future, video will never die, but the two will co-exist and be used for different purposes, as they are now. Live streaming can bring serious benefits to education as well by offering classrooms guest lessons and tutorials by leading professionals. Live streaming is more beneficial for education than video as it allows students to interact with guest teachers in real-time. The live streaming market is waiting to be tapped. Right now there are some prospectors, but in North America, no one has really found the vein leading to the mine. So maybe it’s time to get prospecting. The 2019–20 network television schedule for the five major English-language commercial broadcast networks in the United States covers the prime time hours from September 2019 to August 2020. The schedule is followed by a list per network of returning series, new series, and series canceled after the 2018–19 season.
❏ STREAMING MEDIA ❏
Streaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being delivered by a provider. The verb to stream refers to the process of delivering or obtaining media in this manner.[clarification needed] Streaming refers to the delivery method of the medium, rather than the medium itself. Distinguishing delivery method from the media distributed applies specifically to telecommunications networks, as most of the delivery systems are either inherently streaming (e.g. radio, television, streaming apps) or inherently non-streaming (e.g. books, video cassettes, audio CDs). There are challenges with streaming content on the Internet. For example, users whose Internet connection lacks sufficient bandwidth may experience stops, lags, or slow buffering of the content. And users lacking compatible hardware or software systems may be unable to stream certain content. Live streaming is the delivery of Internet content in real-time much as live television broadcasts content over the airwaves via a television signal. Live internet streaming requires a form of source media (e.g. a video camera, an audio interface, screen capture software), an encoder to digitize the content, a media publisher, and a content delivery network to distribute and deliver the content. Live streaming does not need to be recorded at the origination point, although it frequently is. Streaming is an alternative to file downloading, a process in which the end-user obtains the entire file for the content before watching or listening to it. Through streaming, an end-user can use their media player to start playing digital video or digital audio content before the entire file has been transmitted. The term “streaming media” can apply to media other than video and audio, such as live closed captioning, ticker tape, and real-time text, which are all considered “streaming text”.
❏ COPYRIGHT CONTENT ❏
Copyright is a type of intellectual property that gives its owner the exclusive right to make copies of a creative work, usually for a limited time.[1][2][3][4][5] The creative work may be in a literary, artistic, educational, or musical form. Copyright is intended to protect the original expression of an idea in the form of a creative work, but not the idea itself.[6][7][8] A copyright is subject to limitations based on public interest considerations, such as the fair use doctrine in the United States. Some jurisdictions require “fixing” copyrighted works in a tangible form. It is often shared among multiple authors, each of whom holds a set of rights to use or license the work, and who are commonly referred to as rights holders.[citation needed][9][10][11][12] These rights frequently include reproduction, control over derivative works, distribution, public performance, and moral rights such as attribution.[13] Copyrights can be granted by public law and are in that case considered “territorial rights”. This means that copyrights granted by the law of a certain state, do not extend beyond the territory of that specific jurisdiction. Copyrights of this type vary by country; many countries, and sometimes a large group of countries, have made agreements with other countries on procedures applicable when works “cross” national borders or national rights are inconsistent.[14] Typically, the public law duration of a copyright expires 50 to 100 years after the creator dies, depending on the jurisdiction. Some countries require certain copyright formalities[5] to establishing copyright, others recognize copyright in any completed work, without a formal registration. It is widely believed that copyrights are a must to foster cultural diversity and creativity. However, Parc argues that contrary to prevailing beliefs, imitation and copying do not restrict cultural creativity or diversity but in fact support them further. This argument has been supported by many examples such as Millet and Van Gogh, Picasso, Manet, and Monet, etc.[15]
❏ GOODS OF SERVICES ❏
Credit (from Latin credit, “(he/she/it) believes”) is the trust which allows one party to provide money or resources to another party wherein the second party does not reimburse the first party immediately (thereby generating a debt), but promises either to repay or return those resources (or other materials of equal value) at a later date.[1] In other words, credit is a method of making reciprocity formal, legally enforceable, and extensible to a large group of unrelated people. The resources provided may be financial (e.g. granting a loan), or they may consist of goods or services (e.g. consumer credit). Credit encompasses any form of deferred payment.[2] Credit is extended by a creditor, also known as a lender, to a debtor, also known as a borrower.

Kpop “sampling” 101
Okay I’m really heated about this and this is a topic I’m super fucking passionate about so HERE GOES. Hopefully this will clear up a lot of issues.
WHAT EXO FANS ARE TRYING TO SAY HAPPENED IS BASED OFF OF MISGUIDED KNOWLEDGE FROM PAST OCCURRENCES IN THE KPOP INDUSTRY AND THE CONCLUSIONS DRAWN FROM THOSE ARE WRONG
Under the cut cause it’s long and filled with videos
Exo is from the company SM Entertainment and SM is fucking NOTORIOUS for this. So. Back in the early 2000s and hell up until the early 2010s there was this huge trend of producers (American, Swedish, etc) creating melodies and then selling the melodies to different artists from different countries because at the time the internet wasn’t as global, and trying to access anything that wasn’t in your native language was virtually impossible. The Korean industry at the time was in its infancy and was trying desperately to rise up to Japanese and Chinese levels of popularity. SM’s CEO Lee Soo Man trained in LA and he was obsessed with westernizing his artists because he believed that could help them become global leaders in music.
I don’t know the full legality of how this went but the best I can equate it to is like region coding DVDs (do people remember that it was a fucking bitch i really fucking hated being in kpop fandom in the early 2000s). Songs were sold to certain regions and legally weren’t allowed to be released in other regions at the time. A few (of the many) examples are as follows:
youtube
youtube
BoA’s version isn’t a cover. They are two completely different songs. The melodies were bought by both artists and the lyrics were written. My CDs are all packed up somewhere but BoA’s version credits the original composers and even gives a shoutout to Luis’ song in the album credits. Because it was a song that was bought legitimately by SM from the producers and used to make Spark. All legal all cool.
youtube
youtube
Corbin’s version of this song was released in 2007. This was roughly around the time Kpop started becoming more global with the introduction of youtube so a lot of the rules of buying melodies started to get muddled (we’ll get to that in a minute). But it’s the exact same thing as with BoA’s song. This isn’t a cover. SM (and Jonghyun) wrote new lyrics and just used the melody. It was properly credited from the beginning and hell it was marketing tool because SM was fucking basic as hell and trying really desperate to use western songs to make them appeal to the American industry.
Sometimes SM managed to release their version first!! (the hilarity of the top comment on SNSD’s video)
youtube
(Oh man I’ve hit the embed limit so I guess we’re just linking videos now)
Demi Lovato’s Mistake
Again. Producer sold the melody. Two different countries (in this case SNSD’s version is in Japanese but regardless). Two different artists. Two very different songs lyrically.
IS ANYONE NOTICING A TREND WITH THE VIDEOS I’VE LINKED SO FAR? YOU NOTICE HOW THEY ARE ALL BASICALLY THE EXACT SAME MELODY THE WHOLE VIDEO THROUGH??? AND HOW THE PROPER PRODUCERS WERE CREDITED FROM THE BEGINNING???
One more because I hear this song all the time and I get stuck in kpop panic.
SNSD’s Dancing Queen
Duffy’s Mercy
iirc this is actually the song that started there being a mess in the whole “same melody sold to different artists” that led to it not be so common now-a-days. Both SNSD and Duffy recorded the song in 2008, Duffy’s version came out first it was a HUGE HIT and basically SM got tied up in some sort of legal battle and weren’t allowed to release their song until 2012 because Duffy’s label didn’t want there to be any sort of competition/infringement. And SM did it! Because they had legit bought the song and it felt until the contract use of the melody I’m guessing.
Once again. Same exact melody. Totally different lyrics. The SM version is not a Korean/Japanese cover of the song. Proper credits out the gate.
Have we figured out the difference yet between all of these perfectly legitimate examples of SM buying melodies from western producers and making songs that seem to “copy” a western song? What happened with Back to You is in no way shape or form the same thing I don’t care what the LoveShot producer apparently said. All these songs have these things in common:
The whole melody is the same
The original producers were credited from the start and in most cases SM came out from the gate and said “this is based off of this western song” as a MARKETING TACTIC
NEITHER OF THESE HAPPENED WITH LOVESHOT. There are only two possible explanations: 1. intentional plagiarism 2. accidental plagiarism. As I am not a lawyer and I sure as hell didn’t sit in on these probably boring fucking conversations that went something like (”This section sounds like BTY” “What section? This section?” “Yes give us credit or we’ll take you to court” “Hmmm that sounds expensive and will away from our valuable exploiting our artists fund hmmmmm we’ll give you the credit” “Thanks”) SM crediting Louis and the writers of BTY now and not from the get go means they recognize the similarities regardless of the intent. That’s it.
Round up: the thing that Exo fans said happened (The producers sold two versions of the song to two different artists and Louis just released his first) does happen and quite frequently!! Enough that for awhile we’d play the game of “what song is this” before it dropped so we could hear what the song would sound like! But! This is not one of those cases. This is way too different from what that actually looks like.

Look at what I found.
Last I heard, YouTube had gone on a hunt for these types of videos after they started getting talked about. Even stranger, was that this popped into from autoplay after watching a good 20 kill la kill videos. I thought it was halerious, so instead of just doing the basic "why is this in my recommendations" comment and leaving the video before I've even seen five seconds; I watched The whole thing. . . Yea. . .
Tumblr media
It was basically what I expected a Little animated story with bootleg Minnie mouse+children while two random and completely unrelated to the video, songs play: that "are you sleeping" one and Mary had a little lamb to be exact.
After just enjoying the weird ness of it all, I was gonna just leave and forget I even saw the video. However one little silly thing caught my eye. The baby alien had an ID. It was a pointless detail, but one that got me thinking about what even was this video. And now, I was invested.
Going skin deep.
Tumblr media
So, looking at the video you can see the description is just the title with the last word at the begging instead. I decided to translate the title.
Tumblr media
Cool. We know that it's arabic now. Also we can assume that Mickey Mouse + baby Mickey Mouse are just there to generate clicks and that jazz.
Who needs to pass preschool if that's your audience.
Next we move on to the next most easy thing to do # 31. So we know that in this case the hash probably means N.O. rather than being a tag, so I went to the channel and saw that ever video had the same title, but the number.
Tumblr media
(Yes the one up top was the one that went on auto play, I know what it looks like but I swear) so every one of their 25 videos are like this.
Yes 25 videos, as I counted through the channels video I saw that they didn't match up in most places. The count of videos would increase by 2 rather than 1 every once in a while and sadly my only explanation is that Kiko toon Didn't know how to count.
Jad does weed.
So you can imagine the next thing i did was straight up open crome And look up Jad and Osoumi bud paradise. Quiet a fruitless search, unless if your looking to grow cannabis. Obviously just searching for bud paradise just ended in the same effect
Searching more.
After bud ruined my search history morethan I thought possible, I looked for just Jad and Osoumi, but ended up with french records.
Tumblr media
With that useless knowledge I moved onto searching Jad and Iyiad on the cromes, and I finally found something. Jad and Iyiad where child performers that seemed to sing songs on TV for children' s entertainment. With birds of paradise being an album or the name of the show.
Tumblr media
Doing the obvious next step, I searched them further (went on Wikipedia) and found something interesting.
Tumblr media
Jad and Iliad were indeed child stars in toyor al-janah, but KiKo toon was not related to them, big shock.
So now, for the why.
You may be wondering, why? why go through the effort to figure all this nothing out? And so am I, probably because the only thing I've Posted recently is shit. But it is besides the point. What matter right now is what happened to the twins. And what happened to them is not much actually.
Jad an Eyad (as he seems to prefer to be called now) are running a perfectly fine YouTube channel with 8 million subscribers, and toyor also seem to be doing fine on the YouTube side.
However, looking at the videos posted by farmer Mack, we see that these videos with the more finger family style of content has all been deleted leaving me to come up with this idea.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What do I think happened?
So keeping in mind that a I know is from a small amount of time that I spent to dive into the topic of arabic kids YouTube & tv here is my best guess.
So Jad and Eyad would make videos on toyor, in the style of those finger family videos, but at some point, YouTube tightening on that content. Causing vids to disappear.
Jad & Eyad make their own YouTube channel as their content started getting removed. This causes other youtubers to Pickup on the the lack of Jad content. Some of them get affected like Jad, but some survived and got left now forever stuck using old child stars names for vews.
If anyone actually knows anything about this for real tho, that isn't sleep deprived rambling, cool. I guess.
Do tell me tho, I am curious.

HOW TO AVOID INFINITY WAR SPOILERS: Avengers Infinity War is around the corner, and before you know it, everyone will be going to see it on day of release, spewing their thoughts and views all over the internet with little regard to those that were not fortunate enough to see it right away for whatever reason. Even so, the red carpet premiere is a few days before, and there's opportunities for things to leak out from that... so in a way, no one is safe, regardless of when you're planning on watching it! I've decided to make a list of "How To's" below for those with little willpower, or for those that simply can't even scroll through an app without seeing something new about the movie. The world is a dangerous place... but the internet is far worse! I hope this 'guide' (for lack of a better word) helps... 1. Minimise your social media intake and output: Seems obvious right? Just get the hell off the internet! Easier said than done... besides, you should be entitled to scroll through your apps if you want to! Unfortunately though, Marvel promote their movies on every social media app there is - Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter to name a few. Not only that, but if you search certain hashtags regarding the movie, you're bound to see the latest news and spoilers. If you're following nerd pages (like this one), there's a chance that they'll be posting spoilers on there for that "fresh scoop" content... and yes, most will warn you with a spoiler alert, but what's the say your will is strong enough to overpower your intrigue? If spoilers are there, your fingers and thumbs are itching to see them. Other than that, comment sections are a mine field during this time. You could be passively reading what other people have to say on a particular post, then boom, they've spoilt something! Whether they did it carelessly or they intentionally trolled, the spoiler is there, you've read it, and now you can't delete it from your brain! (I do not recommend self-induced amnesia). So, to avoid these things, 'mute' what movie pages you have at your disposal either now or closer to the time, and only check the comment sections on posts/videos if they're completley unrelated to Marvel and Infinity War (though sometimes trolls dump spoilers in random places, so be very aware). 2. Stop watching all the unnecessary footage: If you haven't noticed already, Marvel like to post at least a trillion different 'TV Spots' (quick, mini trailers) and clips a day leading up to the movie's release. Though the new footage they show doesn't tend to be spoilery, one may think that they'd be better off seeing said shots and snippets in its entirety, when you go to see the movie for the first time. Yes, it is a long film... and we've probably only seen 0.3% of it via trailers and TV spots, but it adds up, and over time, it diminishes the value of the full movie. Be patient! The two main trailers are enough hype, you don't need anymore, you're being greedy! Trust me, it'll be worth it. If you see one autoplaying as you're scrolling, keep going! Think ahead to your amazing cinematic experience and how satisfied you'll feel, knowing you didn't give in! Again, if you do happen to cave (shameful behaviour!), steer clear of the comments section; keen eyes may have noticed spoilery content within the footage that you hadn't picked up on yourself. 3. Go to 'Super Shutdown Mode' closer to the date: This is it! Battlestations! The movie is in a couple days and heavy spoilers could be lurking in every direction! Early screenings have been and gone, so there's a hefty handful of people that will have seen it with loose lips. What do you do?! Easy: Get off social media, period. Okay, I'm being dramatic, but seriously, if you really want to stop your movie-going experience from being contaminated by selfish people, stop yourself from going on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. If you're on your phone, you can still use the Facebook Messenger app to talk to friends without having the full Facebook interface open at the same time. If anyone at work/school has seen it, tell them to keep their mouths shut... and if they still persist, run away. So far so good, but when you walk through those cinema doors, there could be people walking out of the viewing before you! What if they're talking to their friends and their voices are dangerously loud?! Head down, earphones in, grab your ticket and popcorn and run! If it seems pretty over the top it's because it is, but that won't stop me doing it! If you're struggling to live without a heavy dose of Internet, watch some movies (make sure you're all up to speed with the MCU), and if you need your daily fix of Infinity War, just jump onto YouTube and watch the first two trailers over and over again until your heart rate goes back to normal. 4. Don't spoil the movie yourself, and make sure your friends don't do the same: Perhaps the most important rule of all. You made it! You managed to watch the movie, laugh, cry, have expectations blown through the roof, all without having anything spoilt for you - well done! Admirable work! However, the hard work has only just begun. You've just seen the biggest and best movie in history and it's all you want to talk about in person and online. There will be places for you to discuss spoilers - don't be one of those people that publicly announce the happenings of a movie inside and out, especially when said movie has only just released. If you and your friends have seen it and want to discuss in person, be wary of people around you. If you're in a busy place like work or school, would it be too dangerous to talk about it? Can it wait? If you can't help it, keep your voices low! Don't come barging out of the cinema bawling your eyes out in awe, screaming "OH MY GAWD, I LOVED THE PART WHERE **** did **** and then ****. I CAN'T BELIEVE **** HAPPENED!" Shush... just shush! If you have children with you, ensure they do the same or ground them for life. Imagine someone trying their hardest not to hear anything about the movie, then reading or hearing something against their will? It's unfair... but you can help prevent that by lowering the percentage of inevitable spoilers. How you ask? Zip it! If you would like to leave your verdict online, please keep it vague, keep it spoiler-free, and don't mention actual parts of the film in detail. This is a worldwide event, and everyone in the world deserves a spoiler-free experience. So there you, I'm actually using this plan for myself... I just thought I'd share it with you all so everyone enjoys Infinity War as much as possible! I for one won't be as active on this blog until I see it on the 26th, just in case you start to wonder. After that, I will be posting like normal, along with a SPOILER-FREE review... emphasis on the "SPOILER-FREE" part. As a whole, don't be worried about spoilers here on my blog, as I will not post anything spoilery, from the heavy, to the slight. Though be warned, I can't control what comments I receive, so if you wish to comment yourself, refrain from reading other people's until you've seen the movie yourself! (I also won't be reading any messages or comments I recieve until after either). Anyway, thanks for reading and good luck with your spoiler prevention quest. Be cautious and be respectful.. but most importantly, enjoy Infinity War! Joe (SuperMovieManiac) ❤

Why Web Accessibility is an Important Ingredient to your Content Curation Strategy
Content curation isn’t merely about plotting out various audiences or researching about your users’ interests. There’s a ton more to content curation. And web accessibility for all users is one of them. That means taking into consideration the 1 out of 6 visitors to your website with disability. Read on to find out why it is essential to do so.
Improves conversion and bounce rates
More than 71 percent of users with disabilities will leave a site that is not accessible to them. The result is an increase in bounce rates and an obvious loss of money-making opportunities on your website. In fact, an analysis by the UK government in 2016 found that websites lost a whopping £11 billion annually from bounce rates associated with people with disabilities.
As such, infusing elements accessibility into your content curation strategy can go a long way in helping you reduce bounce rates.
Leads to increased traffic to your website as a trusted source
Most people say that you have to earn trust. These words have never been more accurate. By making your website accessible, you show your users that you care for and appreciate them. It would be best if you used web accessibility to build trust with your users.
You can drive more traffic if your site is authoritative and accessible to all users. That overlaps with other suitable practices such as usability, SEO, and mobile web design.
It makes it easier for disabled persons to do business with you
At least 82 percent of disabled persons agree that they will spend more on an accessible site. That is regardless of the cost of services or the price tag behind products. That’s because they can do business with ease. They can also access the information on the site and make informed decisions.
An accessible website breaks the barriers of audio, visual content, and print using web technologies. Regardless of the type of disability that a user has, it will not hinder them from interacting with your website.
youtube
A strategic way to prevent ADA lawsuits against your site
While it’s easy to assume that only the government or big businesses need to make their websites more accessible, small businesses must fall in line too. It doesn’t matter whether you are running a charity website or a public or private one. The fact is failure to comply with the provisions of the ADA may land your business in trouble with the law.
Over 2000 cases of ADA lawsuits are reported yearly. To prevent your website from being a statistic, ensure that it’s ADA compliant. That will save you the headache of dealing with lawsuits and both time and money.
Gives your business a social impact
Running a business is not just about driving traffic and chasing leads. It’s also about making a difference in the community and those around you. And what better way to do that than to join the fight towards equal opportunities and access.
Your website can be an excellent place to start. That way, your users with disabilities can participate more actively in society.
How to make your website more accessible
youtube
Making your website accessible is not as challenging as it may first appear. With the right tips and tricks, you can improve accessibility for your site. Here are some of the steps that you should take.
Use descriptive link text
When curating your content, always ensure that you add descriptive texts to the links. Sure, adding color to it and underlying the links is important. But what about your audience with poor vision, color blindness, or those in poorly lit areas who can’t tell the link has color?
Descriptive texts like ‘Watch YouTube Video’ are easy to understand since they go straight to the point. Your audience does not have to wonder where the link is taking them. Plus, if your link requires the audience to download the link, you can let them know by clearly stating what they are to download.
Also, since most people use screen readers, avoid writing out the complete URL as the link text. It’s frustrating, looks clunky, and undoubtedly annoying (the screen reader will read it letter for letter).
Use simple language
One most valuable content curation strategy is using short, simple sentences. A lot of people only skim through content. So make it as skimmable as possible. If you have a problem with keeping your text short, you can use simplifying tools.
These tools replace complex vocabulary with simple ones and help you summarize your text. That way, anyone can understand your content, including people with cognitive impairment.
Format your content for access
Laying out your curated content in a clear and intuitive way can make it more accessible. That way, people can flow through it naturally and connect different sections of your content seamlessly. You can achieve all these by using simple formatting tips.
For instance, using straightforward and easy-to-read Non-Serif fonts can make a whole load of difference. Plus, you can use large, easy-to-click links that spell out the action the reader is taking by clicking.
Additionally, you can add as much color and contrast to your content. That way, people with limited vision or in low light won’t struggle to access it.
Source
Use clear hierarchy
If anyone in your audience uses screen readers (which is more than 4.4 million Americans), they depend on a clear hierarchy to understand the content. That’s why HTML tags in hierarchical headings that clearly show subheadings and titles are essential.
Make accessibility easy to find
When you add an accessibility feature to your website, the goal is to help users quickly navigate your site. But what use is it if they cannot find the feature? For instance, instead of having the accessibility page tacked away and only accessible when someone searches on Google, you can make it available on the main page.
Let users know where to go if they need to activate (or turn off) a specific feature. Ensure that the page spells out every single essential information.
Caption and transcript your videos
Tumblr media
Source
Currently, video content is popular due to its engagement levels. However, a disabled user who is hard of hearing will have trouble accessing your content. No, subtitles don’t do the trick because the design was for people who can hear but are noisy or do not understand the language. It always leaves out some of the primary audio information like car honks, among others.
Captions, on the other hand, capture even the little audio details. That way, users can access the information better and completely. Transcripts also allow the same level of access without neglecting anything.
Simplify essential tools
Tools such as autocomplete for filling forms should not be too complicated. Instead, the user should only need to take the necessary steps to complete the action. For you to accomplish that level of functionality, you need to understand each user.
For instance, for a visually impaired user to access the tools on your site, you can include a reader. That way, they do not need to worry about typing. Even so, you may not get the tools right on the first go. But with more iterations and improvements, you can fix as many bugs as possible.
Enlarge the clickable areas
Some of the visitors to your site may have a combination of disabilities and may fail to navigate the site if everything is small. That is where the real challenge begins. The goal is to enlarge the size of your content and clickable links without making the site less adaptive.
You should ensure that your site is adaptive while increasing the hyperlinks’ size to cover more text. Users can then comfortably navigate the site regardless of their limitations, physical or otherwise.
Tag buttons, graphics and images
Tumblr media
Source
A lot of users turn to voice assistance to navigate your site. However, for the visually impaired, voice assistance is crucial. Without it, they can’t access any of the necessary information. These users listen to every element on your site, and if you include untagged visual content, they will not know it’s there.
Allow them a chance at interacting with you by tagging your visual content like graphics and images. That can be the difference between a well-informed user and an unsatisfied one. Additionally, ensure that the captions are readable, clear, and concise.
Add turn off features on video and GIF content
Web accessibility encompasses all users. It would be best if you considered your epileptic users who are sensitive to flashing content. The last thing you want is your content triggering a seizure. Users should be able to access your content without worrying about getting an epileptic attack.
A turn off feature can allow users to turn off flashing and moving visual content while surfing the web. The autoplay video feature is also a no go. Let the user decide whether they want to play the video or not.
Create an inclusive user experience
At least 90 percent of users will refrain from going back to a website with poor customer experience. Nothing spells that out more than inaccessible websites. Creating an inclusive design for your website is taking accessibility to the next level. It entails coming up with a universal design that considers all users regardless of race, gender, and age.
Final thoughts
Web accessibility is vital and beneficial to your business. The more your site and content is available, the better chances at improving your conversion rates and driving traffic. Without forgetting the ADA compliance lawsuits, an accessible site is key to staying on the right side of the law.

Writing Music
This week I realised that some of my music is available as score-following videos! (I knew that this would happen, just not when). I’ve linked both of these at the bottom of this post. These are not new pieces, but they are ones that I like, and benefit from including some lovely performances as well. It was hard for me to choose pieces to do this with, not least because linearly following a score isn’t a key feature of a lot of my most recent music, but I like the score-following aspect of it. Even if someone does not read notation, I think these videos give a great idea of what a performer interacts with during a performance, what they see, and a visual link is created between the sound and notation.
This last part is - in part- what has also inspired this post. Because I did not notice the videos straight away, a few people had been able to watch them before I did. On one of the videos there is a discussion of the use of handwritten notation. I have no desire to weigh into the discussion there, not least because it became a general discussion about notation, but I decided I might want to share my thoughts about handwriting stave notation here. My aim is not to convince anyone to do as I do, just to reflect.
In the bad old days, when I studied my undergraduate degree, not everyone had a computer. I did not. It seems unfathomable that such a time existed, but somehow this was manageable. When I needed to do work on a computer I could use one in the library, or one of the many computer rooms the campus had. I won a place on a Sibelius summer course and the department lent me a laptop so I could take part in it (three letters were missing from the keyboard). In my final year, my parents gave me a family desktop computer that they had eventually replaced. It could not connect to the internet. It did not have/could not run Sibelius; it could barely run MS Word. Yet, I finished my degree. I did not have a personal copy of any notation software until I was able to buy a laptop with my first AHRC grant payment for my MMus degree.
This isn’t intended as an example of how terrible things were for me: I suspect that most people my age probably had a similar experience. Nor is it intended to explain that I used handwritten notation out of necessity. But rather, just an explanation of how notation software was not a ubiquitous part of my education. I was very influenced by what I did learn as part of my degree. In my first year, I remember being shown an example of James Dillon’s handwritten notation. Even the staves were written by hand. This really impressed me: the care and attention given to the music, and its appearance. For a long time I also drew staves by hand. This certainly wasn’t a necessity: if I didn’t have a computer I certainly had plenty of manuscript paper. I’ve given up drawing the staves now, but I think the experience of doing that was important to me.
There are two things about writing music by hand that are important to me: the first is the relationship that I feel that there is between sound and writing. Being able to think of a musical idea and immediately write it down—or being able to read written music and hear/imagine its sound—is something I personally feel is important. Sometimes students treat this as a magical or unachievable feat. But rather, I think it is a consequence of writing a lot of notation as I was learning. Just as one can think of a sentence and write it, or rather “hear” the sound of something being said that is written down, this is possible with notation as well. I personally think that while notation softwares offer advantages to students in terms of the speed of producing scores, the ability to quickly change aspects of the music, etc., perhaps they also prevent some people from developing this link between written notation and audiated sound that I really value.
The second important thing to me is the relationship between notation and making. This is a huge part of my practice now, where I often use graphic, unconventional and experimental notation. In a lot of my work I think about this tactile practice of making. But I can also trace these experiences to the time spent drawing staves as a student. So I also have this tactile and aesthetic connection to the handwritten stave notation I use as well as to the graphic and more experimental pieces. I’ve seen people express concern about performers reading handwritten notation but I think this is misplaced: for many centuries all notation was handwritten! And there are lots of contemporary music performers used to reading handwritten scores—Feldman’s works in their first editions, for example—to whom it isn’t a barrier that not everything looks like it was produced by a notation package. I’ve spoken to performers who have described feeling differently connected to handwritten scores because of what they reveal about the person who wrote them. This is also probably quite a personal preference.
Over the years I have of course had a lot of feedback from performers about notation. I’ve changed things in relation to this. Certainly, readability is important and I think (I hope) I have got better at making digital copies of handwritten scores so that they can be easily read. For some specific projects I’ve used a software package, usually to match the expectations/stated preferences of certain performers, or for speed where necessary and related to certain types of music. And there are definitely composers whose handwritten scores are much more neatly and beautifully produced than mine. James Dillon is one, Brian Ferneyhough is another although his publisher has started to typeset his work, Mathias Spahlinger a third. But many composers who did used to handwrite now have copyists, except in cases where their notation cannot be easily translated into music software. And some composers who I know used handwriting extensively in the past have also moved on to other means of making music: devising, making, or other non-notated practices. I feel sad that the idea of handwriting a score is something that is becoming thought unusual, quirky, or even undesirable.
In teaching composition, my preference now would be to start without using any notation package for at least a portion of time. I remember that this was in fact a requirement at the University of Huddersfield when I taught there for one year. This would have to mean that composers think about the presentation and appearance of notation, but also their preferences for the communication of sound and ideas: I don’t think such an approach would have to mean only using stave notation. Everyone could start with their preferred method of graphic notation, stave notation, written instructions or maybe even something else. Such an approach would mean that the expectations and norms of software packages (…choose a key and a time signature before you’ve written any sound ideas! …hear the music played back even if it is impossible …see the music highlighted in red when the package doesn’t like it, even if there are performers who can play that!…) would not necessarily have to be part of the formative experiences that composers have in their practice.
Anyway, these are my thoughts about handwriting: it’s important to me as a personal practice as well as a means of communicating my compositions.
And here are the score-following videos, where you can consequently see my notation:

The nightmare videos of childrens' YouTube ? and what's wrong with the internet today | James Bridle
Tumblr media
I’m James. I’m a author and artist, and i make work about technology. I do things like draw life-dimension outlines of navy drones in city streets all over the world, so that individuals can start to feel and get their heads round these fairly really hard-to-see and difficult-to-believe-about technologies. I make matters like neural networks that predict the outcome of elections centered on climate reports, on the grounds that i am intrigued about what the precise prospects of those bizarre new applied sciences are.Last 12 months, I built my possess self-using auto. But for the reason that i don’t really trust technological know-how, I also designed a entice for it. (Laughter) and that i do these matters almost always when you consider that I to find them entirely fascinating, but also for the reason that I feel once we speak about science, we’re mostly speakme about ourselves and the best way that we have an understanding of the arena. So this is a narrative about science. This is a "shock egg" video. It can be sincerely a video of any individual opening up lots of chocolate eggs and displaying the toys inside to the viewer. That’s it. That’s all it does for seven long minutes. And i need you to realize two things about this. To start with, this video has 30 million views. (Laughter) And the other thing is, it comes from a channel that has 6.Three million subscribers, that has a complete of eight billion views, and it can be all just more movies like this — 30 million folks looking at a guy opening up these eggs.It sounds lovely bizarre, however if you happen to seek for "shock eggs" on YouTube, it should let you know there is 10 million of those movies, and that i consider that’s an undercount. I believe there is manner, far more of these. In the event you keep searching, they are endless. There’s thousands and hundreds of thousands of these movies in more and more baroque mixtures of manufacturers and substances, and there is increasingly of them being uploaded day by day. Like, it is a strange world. Right? But the thing is, it is no longer adults who are watching these movies. It is youngsters, babies. These videos are like crack for little kids. There is anything in regards to the repetition, the steady little dopamine hit of the expose, that entirely hooks them in. And little kids watch these videos over and over and over again, they usually do it for hours and hours and hours. And in case you try and take the display far from them, they are going to scream and scream and scream. In case you do not think me — and i’ve already obvious folks in the viewers nodding — when you don’t suppose me, find any person with young children and ask them, and they will be aware of in regards to the surprise egg movies. So this is where we start. It can be 2018, and anyone, or lots of individuals, are utilising the same mechanism that, like, facebook and Instagram are making use of to get you to keep checking that app, and they’re utilizing it on YouTube to hack the brains of very young children in return for advertising income. At the least, i am hoping that’s what they’re doing. I hope that is what they’re doing it for, because there’s less complicated ways of making ad earnings on YouTube. That you would be able to just make stuff up or steal stuff. So if you happen to seek for rather popular children’ cartoons like "Peppa Pig" or "Paw Patrol," you’ll be able to in finding there is hundreds of thousands and thousands of these online as good. Of direction, most of them don’t seem to be posted by the usual content creators. They arrive from loads and loads of extraordinary random debts, and it can be not possible to understand who’s posting them or what their reasons probably.Does that sound type of acquainted? For the reason that it can be exactly the identical mechanism that is taking place throughout most of our digital services, where it’s unattainable to know where this know-how is coming from. It’s in actual fact fake news for youngsters, and we’re training them from delivery to click on the very first link that comes along, regardless of what the supply is. That is does not appear like a very just right idea. Here is one more factor that is fairly huge on children’ YouTube. That is called the "Finger loved ones song." I simply heard anybody groan within the viewers. This is the "Finger loved ones tune." that is the very first one I might in finding. It can be from 2007, and it only has 200,000 views, which is, like, nothing on this recreation. However it has this insanely earwormy tune, which i’m not going to play to you, due to the fact it will sear itself into your mind within the equal way that it seared itself into mine, and i am now not going to try this to you. However like the surprise eggs, it is got inside of kids’ heads and addicted them to it. So inside a number of years, these finger loved ones movies begin showing far and wide, and also you get versions in distinctive languages with trendy youngsters’ cartoons utilising food or, frankly, utilizing some thing variety of animation factors you appear to have lying around. And once once more, there are thousands and hundreds of thousands and hundreds of thousands of those videos on hand on-line in all of those variety of insane combinations. And the extra time you start to spend with them, the crazier and crazier you to think that you just possibly. And that is where I form of launched into this, that feeling of deep strangeness and deep lack of information of how this thing used to be built that seems to be awarded around me.In view that it’s impossible to understand where these matters are coming from. Like, who is making them? A few of them appear to be made of groups of legit animators. A few of them are just randomly assembled via software. Some of them are quite wholesome-looking younger youngsters’ entertainers. And a few of them are from folks who particularly naturally shouldn’t be round kids in any respect. (Laughter) And once once more, this impossibility of finding out who’s making this stuff — like, it is a bot? Is this a character? Is that this a troll? What does it imply that we cannot tell the change between these things anymore? And once more, would not that uncertainty think form of familiar right now? So the principal approach humans get views on their videos — and consider, views mean money — is that they stuff the titles of these videos with these popular terms. So you are taking, like, "surprise eggs" and then you add "Paw Patrol," "Easter egg," or whatever these things are, all of these phrases from other popular movies into your title, until you become with this kind of meaningless mash of language that doesn’t make experience to humans in any respect. Considering the fact that of course it is simplest quite tiny children who are gazing your video, and what the hell do they recognize? Your actual audience for these things is application. It’s the algorithms. It is the application that YouTube makes use of to decide upon which videos are like different movies, to make them fashionable, to make them encouraged. And that’s why you emerge as with this form of fully meaningless mash, both of title and of content material. However the thing is, you must remember, there really are still individuals within this algorithmically optimized system, men and women who’re kind of more and more forced to behave out these increasingly bizarre combos of words, like a desperate improvisation artist responding to the combined screams of 1,000,000 children at once. There are actual individuals trapped within these methods, and that is the opposite deeply unusual factor about this algorithmically pushed culture, on account that despite the fact that you’re human, you have got to turn out to be behaving like a computing device simply to outlive. And also, on the opposite part of the reveal, there nonetheless are these sons and daughters gazing these items, stuck, their full awareness grabbed with the aid of these weird mechanisms. And most of these kids are too small to even use a website. They may be simply type of hammering on the screen with their little arms. And so there’s autoplay, where it simply keeps enjoying these videos over and over and over in a loop, without end for hours and hours at a time. And there is a lot weirdness within the process now that autoplay takes you to some pretty strange locations. That is how, within a dozen steps, that you could go from a lovely video of a counting educate to masturbating Mickey Mouse. Yeah. I’m sorry about that. This does worsen. This is what happens when all of these extraordinary keywords, all these different pieces of awareness, this determined new release of content material, all comes together into a single position. This is where all those deeply weird keyword phrases come house to roost. You cross-breed the finger household video with some reside-motion superhero stuff, you add in some weird, trollish in-jokes or whatever, and all of a sudden, you come to an awfully bizarre position certainly. The stuff that tends to upset mum and dad is the stuff that has variety of violent or sexual content material, correct? Kid’s cartoons getting assaulted, getting killed, bizarre pranks that sincerely clearly terrify kids. What you’ve gotten is program pulling in all of those unique influences to routinely generate youngsters’ worst nightmares. And this stuff particularly, rather does affect small children. Mothers and fathers report their kids being traumatized, fitting afraid of the darkish, becoming frightened of their favorite cool animated film characters. If you take one factor far from this, it can be that when you’ve got young children, preserve them the hell away from YouTube. (Applause) but the other thing, the object that particularly will get to me about this, is that i’m now not definite we even really understand how we received to this point. We now have taken all of this impact, all of those things, and munged them together in a way that nobody quite intended. And yet, this is also the way that we’re building the whole world. We’re taking all of this information, quite a lot of it unhealthy data, plenty of old data filled with prejudice, filled with all of our worst impulses of history, and we’re constructing that into colossal information units and then we’re automating it. And we’re munging it together into things like credit reports, into coverage premiums, into things like predictive policing techniques, into sentencing recommendations. This is the way in which we’re sincerely establishing the sector today out of this information. And that i have no idea what’s worse, that we developed a system that seems to be fully optimized for absolutely the worst features of human conduct, or that we appear to have achieved it by chance, without even realizing that we have been doing it, on the grounds that we didn’t particularly fully grasp the programs that we had been building, and we did not fairly realise find out how to do something otherwise with it.There’s a couple of matters I think that relatively appear to be riding this most entirely on YouTube, and the first of these is advertising, which is the monetization of attention without any actual other variables at work, any deal with the individuals who’re simply establishing this content material, the centralization of the power, the separation of these things. And that i suppose nevertheless you feel about the use of advertising to kind of aid stuff, the sight of grown guys in diapers rolling around in the sand in the hope that an algorithm that they don’t really realise will provide them cash for it means that this mainly isn’t the article that we must be basing our society and tradition upon, and the way where we will have to be funding it. And the opposite thing that is sort of the important driver of this is automation, which is the deployment of all of this science as quickly because it arrives, without any sort of oversight, after which as soon as it can be available in the market, type of throwing up our palms and going, "hello, it is now not us, it is the technology." Like, "We’re now not worried in it." that’s no longer fairly excellent sufficient, on the grounds that this stuff is not only algorithmically ruled, it’s also algorithmically policed. When YouTube first started to pay attention to this, the very first thing they said they’d do about it was that they’d set up better computing device studying algorithms to average the content material. Well, desktop studying, as any knowledgeable in it’s going to inform you, is basically what now we have started to name software that we don’t rather understand how it works. And that i believe we now have enough of that already. We is just not leaving these things up to AI to decide what’s appropriate or not, considering the fact that we know what happens. It should begin censoring other matters. It would begin censoring queer content material. It should censoring legit public speech. What’s allowed in these discourses, it is just not anything that is left as much as unaccountable techniques. It is a part of a discussion all and sundry must be having. But i’d depart a reminder that the substitute isn’t very high-quality, both. YouTube additionally introduced just lately that they’re going to release a version of their kids’ app that will be entirely moderated by using people.Fb — Zuckerberg stated a lot the identical factor at Congress, when pressed about how they have been going to average their stuff. He stated they’d have people doing it. And what that really approach is, as an alternative of having little toddlers being the first man or woman to peer these things, you are going to have underpaid, precarious contract staff with out proper mental wellbeing help being broken by means of it as well. (Laughter) and that i feel we can all do relatively much better than that. (Applause) The inspiration, I feel, that brings those two things collectively, fairly, for me, is company. It is like, how so much can we really recognize — with the aid of company, I mean: how we know how to behave in our possess satisfactory pursuits. Which — it is virtually impossible to do in these programs that we don’t rather thoroughly appreciate.Inequality of power continuously leads to violence. And we can see inside of these systems that inequality of understanding does the equal factor. If there is one thing that we are able to do to to strengthen these systems, it can be to make them more legible to the folks who use them, so that every one of us have a long-established working out of what’s clearly happening right here. The article, although, I feel most about these systems is that this isn’t, as i hope I’ve defined, quite about YouTube. It’s about the whole lot. These disorders of accountability and company, of opacity and complexity, of the violence and exploitation that inherently results from the concentration of power in a couple of palms — these are so much, so much larger disorders. And they’re problems no longer just of YouTube and no longer simply of technology in most cases, they usually’re now not even new. They’ve been with us for a while. However we finally constructed this approach, this global method, the internet, that is truely showing them to us on this exclusive method, making them undeniable. Technological know-how has this individual capability to both instantiate and proceed all of our most amazing, most commonly hidden wants and biases and encoding them into the sector, nevertheless it additionally writes them down in order that we are able to see them, so that we are not able to pretend they don’t exist anymore. We have to stop desirous about technological know-how as a solution to all of our issues, however think of it as a guide to what these problems virtually are, so that they can begin enthusiastic about them thoroughly and to address them. Thanks very much. (Applause) thank you. (Applause) Helen Walters: James, thank you for coming and giving us that talk. So it’s exciting: while you feel in regards to the movies the place the robotic overlords take over, it is all somewhat more glamorous than what you’re describing. However i’m wondering — in these movies, you’ve gotten the resistance mounting. Is there a resistance mounting in the direction of these things? Do you see any constructive signs, inexperienced shoots of resistance? James Bridle: I do not know about direct resistance, considering I think this stuff is tremendous long-time period. I suppose it is baked into culture in rather deep ways. A friend of mine, Eleanor Saitta, always says that any technological problems of sufficient scale and scope are political issues to begin with. So all of those matters we’re working to deal with within this aren’t going to be addressed just with the aid of building the technological know-how better, however surely with the aid of changing the society that is producing these technologies. So no, correct now, I feel we now have received a hell of a long solution to go. However as I mentioned, I suppose with the aid of unpacking them, with the aid of explaining them, by speakme about them super actually, we will truly start to at the least begin that system. HW: And so when you talk about legibility and digital literacy, I to find it tricky to imagine that we ought to place the burden of digital literacy on customers themselves. But whose accountability is education on this new world? JB: again, I feel this responsibility is variety of up to each person, that the whole thing we do, the whole lot we construct, the whole lot we make, needs to be made in a consensual dialogue with every body who’s warding off it; that we’re now not constructing programs meant to trick and surprise persons into doing the proper thing, but that they are absolutely concerned in each step in instructing them, given that every of those programs is academic. That is what i’m hopeful about, about even this fairly grim stuff, that if you can take it and look at it adequately, it can be genuinely in itself a section of schooling that allows for you to start seeing how problematic programs come together and work and perhaps be capable to use that skills elsewhere in the world. HW: James, it’s such an main discussion, and i know many humans listed below are really open and prepared to have it, so thanks for establishing off our morning. JB: Thanks very a lot. Cheers. (Applause) .

Apple previewed iOS 13, introducing a dramatic new look for iPhone with Dark Mode and new ways to browse and edit photos, sign in to apps and websites, and navigate the world with an all-new map. iOS 13 is faster and more responsive with optimisations across the system that improve app launch, reduce app download sizes and make Face ID even faster.
Here are all the features you need to know about the new Apple iOS 13:
Dark Mode
A new dark colour scheme that works system-wide and across all native apps to deliver a great viewing experience, especially in low-light environments. Dark Mode is available to third-party app developers for integration into their own apps and can be scheduled to turn on automatically at sunset or at a certain time.
Easier Browsing and Powerful Photo Editing Tools
Photos curates the entire library to highlight the best images, automatically hiding clutter and similar photos to showcase significant events from the past day, month or year. Photos and videos are intelligently organised, making it easier to browse, discover and relive favourite memories, with autoplay videos to bring the library to life.
Photo editing is more comprehensive and intuitive with new tools that are easier to apply, adjust and review at a glance. With just a swipe, effects can be increased or decreased to create the perfect look, providing photographers with more creative possibilities and control over their images. And in Apple iOS 13, most photo editing tools are now available for video editing, making it possible to rotate, crop or apply filters right within the Photos app.
Portrait Lighting adjustments can be made right in the Camera app to virtually move the light closer to sharpen eyes and brighten and smooth facial features or push the light farther away to create a subtle, refined look. A new High-Key Mono effect creates a beautiful, monochromatic look for Portrait mode photos.
Private Sign In with Apple
Apple is introducing a more private way to simply and quickly sign into apps and websites. Instead of using a social account or filling out forms, verifying email addresses or choosing passwords, customers can simply use their Apple ID to authenticate and Apple will protect users’ privacy by providing developers with a unique random ID.
Even in cases where developers choose to ask for a name and email address, users have the option to keep their email address private and share a unique random email address instead. Sign In with Apple makes it easy for users to authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID and has two-factor authentication built in for an added layer of security. Apple does not use Sign In with Apple to profile users or their activity in apps.
All-New Maps
After driving 4 million miles to rebuild the base map from the ground up, Apple is delivering a new Maps experience with broader road coverage, better pedestrian data, more precise addresses and more detailed landcover. The new map is available now in select cities and states and will roll out across the US by the end of 2019 and to more countries in 2020.
Powered by the new base map and high-resolution 3D photography, a new Look Around feature delivers beautiful street-level imagery of a city with smooth and seamless transitions. Apple iOS 13 brings additional new features to the Maps app, including Collections to easily share favourite restaurants, travel destinations or places to shop with friends, and Favourites for navigating to frequent destinations, such as home, work, the gym or school, with a simple tap from the launch screen.
Additional Apple iOS 13 Features
Reminders has a new look and offers intelligent ways to create and edit reminders, with more ways to organise and keep track of them. The quick toolbar makes it easier to add times, dates, locations and flags, or add attachments. With deeper integration with Messages, it’s easy to tag someone in a reminder so that it surfaces when the user messages with that person.
Messages can automatically share a user’s name and photo, or customised Memoji or Animoji, to easily identify who is in the Messages thread. Memoji is automatically made into sticker packs built into the iOS keyboard, so they can be used in Messages, Mail and other apps. Memoji also features new hairstyles, headwear, makeup, piercings and accessories.
Siri has a new, more natural voice, and Siri Shortcuts now supports Suggested Automations that provide personalised routines for things like heading to work or going to the gym.
CarPlay gets its biggest update ever with a new Dashboard to view music, maps and more in a single view, a new Calendar app and Siri support for third-party navigation and audio apps.
HomePod can distinguish voices from anyone in the home to deliver personal requests, including messages, music and more. Live radio gives Siri access to over 100,000 radio stations from iHeartRadio, Radio.com and TuneIn, and a new sleep timer turns off music after a set amount of time. Handoff enables users to easily move music, podcasts or a phone call to HomePod when they arrive home.
With AirPods, Siri can read incoming messages as soon as they arrive, from Messages or any SiriKit
