Instalation Presentation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
12/04/19 - Final Presentation
Our final instalation worked perfectly to plan ! Everyone in our group brought there piece if artifact that created the babel. I brought my comic book and a extra illsutartion that was projected onto the wall of the pod. Adam created a Radio interview that was played and created a surround sound effect to make the audience feel more apart of the instalation. Greta brought examples of the artifact made from recycled materials. Xhanluka and Venessa brought a instruction manual they found that explained how it works.
I felt that the instaltion spoke very much for itself and there was little for us to say when presenting our instalation to our audience. I just personally wish I had some more time so I could have made the projection into an animation or something or maybe even had more time to explore other sizes for the book to see what worked best.

This shows you my Photoshop process to making sure the layout is correct and will print the right way round on the acetate. Also acetate is a expensive material so I really dont want to mess up. My Process in Photoshop:
( BEFORE STARTING: make sure all images are VECTORISED and IMAGE SIZE is at 148mm X 210mm )
1st - Insert A5 Image > Canvas Size... > Set to A4 ( I will be printing on a4 acetate to then fold to make an a5 book )
>set that canvas to one side then click okay
2nd - Go to Image > Transform > Flip Image Horizontally ( remember one side to the a4 needs to be a flipped image because when it comes to folding the image witll then be revealed to be the right way round )
3rd - insert 2nd image onto page
4th - Check composition before saving as a PNG ( this keeps your image vectorised for when it comes to printing)
5th - Print !
To help make sure I printed the papers correctly I created two dummy books: one to oragnise which page I needed to photoshop with the corrosponding one ( for example: page 1 & 14 needed to be photoshoped on the same page ) The second dummy book was printed with the images so I could scan them to onto the acetate.

05/03/19 - Creative Prod. Review
So today the group reviewed the illustrations I did, I had kept the group posted through whatsapp of the making of each of the drawings. Now they got to see it printed on a varity of different papers/textures to see which one they thoguht best.
After having a review with one of the tutors we discovered a Japanese Book will illustrations screen printed onto clear acetate. This made the book look like it had come from a different world, the way it was printed and bound. It made me think that I didnt consider the impact of the surface choice could have on the ‘age’ of the book.
We also decided as a group it would look more ‘layered’ if we combined all three zines together-using this new media of printing on acetate it would create a more create visual represenation of the ‘layers through time’. Refering back to the artwork I did when we deconstructed Carnaby Street. we will show more litteral layers by using the acetate as a media to print on.
For this I need to go back to all my illustrations and vector all the images so that the white will not print onto the acetate as thats the section we want clear (so we can create this effect).
I THEN need to photoshop the correct layout so all the pages are printed the right way round and can be composition to be seen through each layer.

21/03/19 -Creative Prod. Drawing the Zines
It took me a few full days to complete 14 illustrations for the 3 zines, some illustrations have other illustrations within them to as you can see. I drew each page out using Pro Create on my iPad Pro using the apple pencil. Here are each of the illustrations for each page:

22/03/19 Creativie Production
So after our research we have started to form more visuals about how our exhbition/instalation will be layed out.  We initally thought about creating three Zines/Comics showing how to use our artifact. We had also decied to make the artifact but recycling old technology, manipulating it to make it look brand new.
Each comic would represent a layer of Palimpset, a layer in time. To show how our artifact grows and develops in the environment and socail changes in the future. Here you can see a rouogh concept of how we wil represent or space. We hope to use one of the Shed areas above the libary.
( Will be presenting 4 layers - one will be displayed by projector onto surface )

Here are screenshots of a powerpoint I created of research looking at films that have explored viusal future possibitities refecting back to Carolines ‘Popular Futures’ lecture. I developed futher research apon this. I also in the powerpoint looked at other artefacts that explored language, such as my favourite artefact in the natural history muesum the Rosetta Stone, hieroglyphics has always been a fasination of mine and is a particular good example of langauge seeing as the stone itsead displays three different languages on it as explained in the powerpoint. I also looked at future technologie, porducts and fashion and explored a timeline much like the one we where aiming to explore in our last lesson.

12/03/19-IS THIS TOMORROW? EXHIBITION
Today I decided to join Interdisciplinary practice on a gallery trip to the Whitechapel Gallery in Aldgate to see and exhibition called ‘Is this Tomorrow’, I had heard about this exhibition and thought it would be perfect for our group project looking at future of language. This was also my first trip to Whitechapel gallery so I explored the rest of the building and installations and felt hugely inspired. The exhibition ‘Is this Tomorrow’ was a group of 10 different artists and architects to collaborate and share each other concept ideas of what the future holds? From what I experienced with the layout and visuals, whats that our future makes us feel like human cattle in a bizarre world of genderless beings chained to the little green life left on earth. Forced to keep reproducing to keep humanity alive.
I loved the layout and the mixtures of materials. My favourite part was the TV cave where the cave was made out of polystyrene with plastic succulents all sprayed black to make the tis look seamless. The 8 TV were imbedded into the cave walls all in sync some sharing the same screen others suppling text and narrative explaining the digital animation. Behind was also a large projecting spread across the entire wall showing a variety of animations that linked with the TV in the caves.

08/03/19-GROUP PRESENTATION
Today we discussed our group project created mind maps, research and initial sketches of what we could explore as an artefact for our project. We came up with this concept to look at Language as our artefact, this might develop into a physical product or become just a verbal presentation of what the future of Language is. We set goals individually to explore our own cultures seeing as we are quite an international group. We all come from different areas so we want to explore our cultural language (mine being English).
We went away separately to explore the future of our languages and how these will be represented in the future. Visually I thought about creating a layered animation, aided by a voice recording in our different tongues but the same text, talking and saying the same thing.

Deconstructing Carnaby
22/02/19
After walking aorund Carnaby Street the group rejoined in lecture room at Regents. We overlooked the images we had collect as a whole. I came up with a visual representation of how we could represent each layer of palimpsest. (Social, Commercial, Political, Cultural). In my sketchbook you can see a rough illustration of how I visualised this piece.
Deconstructing the Carnaby Flag photo I took, and creating a coding system. What I mean by this is we can select curtain photos to edit (or highlight the key colour connected to them) in each layer of the flag that makes the full England Flag.
RED = Politics
BLUE = Cultrual
WHITE = Social
CARNABY FONT =Commercial
All of these layer build up to create the whole England Flag. This sort of represents the layers used to build Carnaby Street up to what it is today. By picking apart and coluring the layers helps illustrated to the audience what parts of Carnaby is Commercial, Political, Cultural.
These are rough sketches that we presented as a group as well as a Powerpoint made by Greta showing examples of the all the groups pictures.

PALIMPSEST
22/02/19
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today we explored Palimpsest As Metaphor, as a group we deconstructed Carnaby Street in London. We explored a variety of different layers within Carnaby and photographed these hidden layers to take back and explore further. I created this initial concept of representing each ‘layer’ of history imbedded in Carnaby. Focusing on the Carnaby Street England Flag Sign, as people know the Flag sign looks compelled from the front but as you walk closer towards it you see that it is made up of layers. This gave me an idea to draw/photoshop these inidivual layers made up of photos or illustrations of the images we collected from Carnaby Street today.
I created a initial sketch explain the idea further and that each of the England Flag colour links to the four layers we were told to explore: Social, Political, Cultural and Commercial.
I then continued this after we had received brilliant feedback from the class and tutors, to develop the drawings further. This has been one of my favourite concepts created so far for Pop Goes the Now.

Final Development
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After making some initial ideas and observations of the people in the Tate modern. I became more aware of people’s relationship with pop in everyday life. So for my piece in response to I wanted to do a merge of an icon art piece revamped to a ‘modern pop’ for this I looked at brands people where representing and wearing around the Tate; Coca Cola, Champion, Addis, Calvin Kelvin and Vans. I recreated the Virgin Mary by Sassoferrato, 17th century. People wear brands like it’s there religion. A way of life.
Piece 2 was a pop art comic sketch that I also created on pro-create on iPad Pro of a simple monty python phase that was on someone’s shirt which sums up the words ‘individual’ which I contstantly relate to and try to portray in most of my work. These where conversations I heard when people where commenting on a Gorillaz Girl piece that was pure text on canvas. It inspired me to create this pieces in a pop art way.
They way I recreated the pop art aesthetic was by using the Benday Dot technique similar to Pointillism. This is a technique I really want to explore digitally and test a few prints done digitally or by screen print.
