Some of 2022 pumpkins! I must say the powdery mildew was horrific this year and I can't even tell you how many plants it destroyed of mine! Even after spraying it with DIY & purchased sprays still the mildew showed no mercy! Post Covid harvest! Been gone for a minute because someone decided that it was ok to still go to work after testing positive for covid.... But I made it through it! Still have some after effects but those will shortly go away! This was in dire need of harvesting... all I could think about was my garden and thinking there's got to be a ton of fruits that needed harvesting! I was right and this isn't even all of it! Some will stay @ my home & some will be donated to community pantries and just other people! These 2 fruits, cantaloupe & watermelon went bad or was going bad due to accidentally cutting & cutting the vines back due to powdery mildew! Don't do what I did lol! Anyhoo... since these would go bad or has gone bad I wanted to cut them open to see what it looks like inside @ this stage! The aroma is is phenomenal... I have some more that I am growing right now from Spring & I am keeping the seeds from the cantaloupe also! The seeds in the watermelon aren't yet fertile so unable to keep those for anything... but I have more green manure for my compost! This is my other source of therapy... its quite amazing how her & our other pup help so much with mental & emotional health! If only there were more humans like them... Thoughts, seeds, & veggies are just a few things that get collected in this little sacred place of mine! I needed to find a space & place that I could call my own, to get my shit together, & to neutralize & transform the negative energy (if any) into something positive! I really feel like this Grafitti cauliflower was much easier to grow than Snowball cauliflower! Graffiti cauliflower is a very pretty shade of purple… I have never tasted it yet but will be making a post of my thoughts on this kind! Anyhoo… I have to always try new things no matter what it is. Hand pollinating since there’s apparently a shortage of 🐝 🐝 🐝… However, there’s definitely not a shortage of male flowers! Are your allergies killing you like mine are? The reason allergies are so bad right now is because there are lots & lots of male flowers which means a shit ton of pollen just sitting there… going in the air with every single breeze or wind! Anyhoo… this is me hand pollinating my zucchini plants! Sometimes you just have to get old school on it & do it manually! With the shortage of bee’s & nothing but male flowers, & a shit ton of humidity & heat… my garden has had it rough this year! I can only do so much on my end but luckily most have produced, it may have been slow but they produced & it was 😋! Sometimes you just got to do the job yourself if you want it done & done right! Lol No seriously tho this is a good way to make sure those female flowers produce… they won’t produce if the pollen isn’t there! This looks like Brown Bead… a condition in broccoli that is due to temps being too hot, poor growth or disease! My guess would be from extremely hot temperatures… the humidity & temp has been horrid here! Again I shouldn’t have planted these just yet… you know the same situation as the lettuce! If this bolts I will be waiting for it to flower so I can harvest broccoli seeds! Composting what I have left over after harvesting broccoli & their seeds! Anyhoo… if I want a better earth I have to participate in the helping of Mother Earth! The tallest is @ 11’6” right now… last year my tallest was a little over 14’ tall, not sure if I will get another 1 that tall or taller… we’ll have to wait & see! Well this 2nd storm of the week in a row has made well known it was here! Another uprooting, broken, & leaning/bent over for my plants planted in my garden! But as always it’s fixable & im grateful that even if it did ruin a couple plants (maybe) I’ve got more where that came from! I think it’s time I harvest, blanch, & freeze more kale! If you’re not familiar with blanching it is necessary to be able to freeze certain veggies! This not only good for softening leaves or veggies, but also to keep the flavor, vitamins, & texture in tact! These were 2 of my plants that I was growing vertically however, the containers/pots I have them in are too small for them @ this point! I could still grow these vertically if I hung the bigger pots I have however, I don’t want to do that so I ended up putting them in a single container! They should be ok to produce fruit in these containers but we will watch & see! As with life plants may need a change in their environment & that includes the container/pot, the soil, or even the weather…it could be too hot, too cold, windy, rainy, etc… they’re in! A change in environment could mean much more progression in the growing process! We are (to a point) a product of our environment regardless if we’re in a good or bad place in life! It could ALWAYS be worse & ALWAYS be better! There’s alwYs going to be someone doing better or worse than you… this should have no bearing on what we do or how we live life! Things don’t grow in toxic environments & usually do some major/minor damage @ the end of it all! Be choosy with who you surround yourself with, who you give energy to, who we put in time with, & what our environment looks & feels like! We attract to things that we like, things/people that/who interest(s) us, those who resonate with us or share similar feelings & opinions or any common ground, you get it! What always feels good doesn’t mean it’s mean for us… it’s just an option!
