Beach

Featuring: Kieran, Aaron, Kajij

Disclaimer: Aaron and Kaiji are not my characters. They belong to my friend, Anna. Also, I wrote this on a whim without really thinking too much about how it would turn out. If there are any typos or something that doesn’t really make sense, let me know!

The sun glared down at the trio entering the sandy area. Aaron let out a small groan, trying to impossibly hide in his white hoodie. His scarred hands tugged the hoodie further down his face. Kieran tried to keep his hopes up while he trudged in front of the others. He hadn’t expected it to be so hot today. Hopefully, the ocean would be able to cool them off quickly. Kaiji silently followed behind, showing no expression. Kieran turned his head and glanced back. Was Kaiji doing alright? Hopefully, he was. He looked forward again and spotted their umbrella they had set up the day before.

“Ahah! There it is!” He said, rushing forward.

“A-ah! Wait up!” Aaron shouted behind him.

“Finally…” Kaiji mumbled, keeping at his own pace.

Kieran quickly dropped their items in the chairs and sighed. They finally made it! Now, it was time that they relaxed and swam around. He opens their umbrella and takes out the sunscreen as Aaron and Kaiji catch up to him. 

“Kieran, you should wait for us next time!” Aaron says.

Kieran chuckled and lathered the sunscreen onto himself before offering it to the other two.

“Hey, guys, put on some sunscreen. You don’t wanna get burned! And, yes, Aaron, I’ll wait for you two slowpokes next time. No worries!” Kieran replies.

Aaron huffs and snatches the sunscreen out of Kieran’s hand. 

“You better! It’s tiring trying to try and keep up with you.” He states.

“Just hurry up with the sunscreen, would you? I’m trying not to turn into a french fry here.” Kaiji grunts out, finally saying something to them.

“Oh, shut up! You know you love us!” Kieran teases.

Kaiji doesn’t say anything and turns his head to the side, looking at the ocean.

“Kieran, help me put the sunscreen on my back, would you? Be careful around the stitches.” Aaron asked, taking off his hoodie. He handed the bottle back to Kieran.

“Yeah, of course. Kaiji, get over here. Might as well get you done while I do this.” Kieran says. Kaiji shuffles over and Kieran motions for him to hold his hands out. When he does, Kieran puts some sunscreen in his hand and turns back to Aaron. 

“That’s a lot of sunscreen, y’know.” Kaiji says, eyes flicking up to Kieran.

“It should be enough to cover your arms and chest. Now get to it.” Kieran says as he lathers sunscreen down Aaron’s back. He hums as he finishes and turns to Kaiji, turning him around. “Your turn.” He teases. He makes quick work of Kaiji and steps back.

“There we go! Time to swim, everybody!” Kieran says, rushing to take off his flip flops. He runs to the ocean while laughing along the way.

“Kieran! What did I say about waiting!” Aaron shouts after him as he tries to catch up. And Kaiji..well, he’s just there. Kieran shouts as he runs straight into the cool water. Once he gets far enough, he dives underneath. He quickly resurfaces and turns around, seeing Aaron almost caught up and Kaiji lagging behind.

“Come on, guys! The water feels amazing!” He giggles out. He makes his way to Aaron to pull him in. “C’mon, c’mon! Quickly, quickly!”

“Alright, I got it! I’m coming.” Aaron laughs. They both turn to Kaiji and motion for him to go faster. He barely speeds up to a jog and they have to wait a minute before he gets there. Once the trio is together again, Kieran grabs both of their wrists and drags them into the ocean.

“Hey wait! I’m gonna trip!” Aaron shouts out.

“Hgg--!” Kaiji grunts as he trips. He recovers quickly and tries to tug his arm out of Kieran’s grip. Once they’re far enough, Kieran does let go. He lets out a giggle and dunks his head back in the water. Aaron hesitates and prepares himself before doing the same. They both emerge to a still-standing Kaiji and look at each other. Aaron and Kieran give each other a look while Kaiji squints at them, feeling uneasy all of a sudden. Before he can react, the duo splashes him with water.

“Ah--! Hey! Stop that!” Kaiji says, futilely trying to stop them. “That’s cold!”

“That’s the point, loner boy! Let loose and have some fun!” Kieran retorts, continuing his antics. Aaron just laughs and tries to make bigger and bigger splashes. They eventually stop once Kaiji is fully drenched and coughing a little. Kieran and Aaron are heaving as they continue to laugh. Kieran closes in on Kaiji and moves some hair out of his face.

“There. Now you’ve been initiated into the fun that comes with going to the beach.” Kieran sighs out. He takes a step back and slicks his own hair back so it gets away from his eyes. “Well then, let’s have some fun!” As he says this, bigger waves start to hit the trio. Kieran stumbles a little, not noticing them. Aaron saw them earlier.

“The bigger waves are coming! This is going to be so fun!” Aaron exclaims, rushing out further into the ocean. Kieran and Kaiji follow along, not wanting to miss out. For the next half hour, they spend their time swimming and playing around. The waves seem to be perfect for their day out. Eventually, they end up just messing around.

“Ahh.. today was perfect for the beach.” Kieran hums, swimming on his back.

“It is pretty nice out today.” Kaiji juts in. He seems to be inspecting something in the water.

“Right! We should do this again sometime.” Aaron says.

“By the way, do you guys wanna get something to eat after this?” Kieran says, standing back up. He quickly stretches his arms out and faces the other two.

“What would you want to eat?” Aaron asks.

“Well, there are a few ice cream stands. I also saw a few small restaurants.” He replies. Unknowing to them, a big wave was coming up behind them. With all of them immersed in their own thoughts, they didn’t see it coming until it was too late.

“Oh, those sound--! Ugh--!” Aaron says, getting cut off.

“Wh--!”

“Oh shi--.”

The wave sends all three of them underwater. They quickly try to resurface, only to be pushed down by another wave. Aaron and Kaiji wait it out while Kieran foolishly tries again, only to be shot back down. Aaron and Kaiji get up, Kieran following them. Kieran starts to cough violently while Aaron tries to get his hair out of his face. “Are-are you alright, Kieran?” Aaron asks worriedly.

“Ugh--” He coughs, “Yeah, I’m alright. What about Kaiji?” He says, looking up. They both look over to Kaiji with his head facing the ocean and his back facing them. His hair was covering his face. Kieran raises an eyebrow while Aaron cocks his head to the side. He seemed to be..looking for something?

“Kaiji, dude, what’s wrong? Did you lose something?” Kieran asks, moving towards him.

Kaiji moves his hand under his hair and moves it back. He turns to them with a stone-faced look. “Have either of you seen my mask?” Aaron and Kieran freeze in place. Their eyes seemed to be scanning Kaiji’s face. This was the first time they’ve seen his face without his mask. Kaiji grows uncomfortable under their gaze.

“What’s up with you guys? Is there something on my face?” He asks.

“Well..it’s more like what’s not on your face.” Aaron chuckles.

“Wh-- Oh. My mask is off. Right.” He says, turning back to the ocean.

“Dude, you’ve got a pretty face,” Kieran states bluntly. Once he realizes what he’s said, he slaps his hand over his mouth. Aaron laughs at him for this.

“Ah, okay. Have you seen my mask though?” Kaiji says, nonchalant.

“N-no, sorry. I’ll help you look for it.” Kieran says, punching himself on the inside. They all eventually find it a little bit away from them. Aaron’s stomach growls and they’re all reminded of their previous conversation. They trudge out of the ocean and decide to get food. Kaiji decides to keep his mask off since it’s fully drenched with water now. They dry off and eventually find a nice little restaurant to settle down for the day. Kieran and Aaron end up making jokes throughout the meal while Kaiji sits there, silently suffering. Their beach day ends perfectly and they end up leaving with wonderful memories.
