Y/N squirmed as she attempted to put on the gown for tonight. It was a black body con dress, not too revealing but giving her curves enough attention. It’s rare for her to wear dresses, but the idea sounded nice for a gala. A knock sounded on the dressing room door. “Come in,” Y/N said, figuring it was Jonathan. She fixed her hair as she looked in the mirror. Her makeup was perfect, and she loved the way her jewelry reflected the light. Jonathan approached her from behind. “Would you mind zipping me up?” She asked and he nodded, a frown on his face. After her dress was zipped, Y/N turned around to face him. His face lacked all emotion, and if anything he looked tired. “You look good tonight.” Y/N reached up and fastened his tie, hoping the compliment would brighten his mood. Jonathan’s face slightly twitched as he grabbed her hand and moved it down. “Y/N, what are we doing here?” She looked at his face with inquiry. “The gala? My friends insisted. You don’t have to stay if you don’t want to-“ Johnathan cut Y/N off with a snap of annoyance. “I’m not talking about the damn gala, Y/N.” Y/N swallowed and took in a deep breath, trying to keep composure. “Okay, what are you talking about then?”
“Us, we always struggle to make each other happy. Why are we spending all this time trying?” Y/N’s breath quickened. She feared what he would say next. “Because we love each other. That’s what you do when you’re in love, you keep trying.” Jonathan’s lip quivered as he tried to release his next question. “Then what does it mean if I don’t want to keep trying, Y/N?” Her mind flashed to the day where she caught Jonathan cheating on her with a coworker. She wondered if this was about her. Y/N tried to place her hand on his cheek, but he dodged his head away. “Jonathan,” a tear slipped from his eye. “Y/N, I’m breaking up with you. You don’t make me happy, and it makes me sad to see you keep trying. I care about you, but I don’t love you. You deserve this gala tonight. I hope it goes well for you.” And just like that, Jonathan stormed out of the room.
Y/N stood in front of the mirror, a tissue in hand to catch the tears running from her eyes. She couldn’t have another disaster with her mascara running. When she was finally able to calm down, she pulled out her note cards to practice her speech. She heard another knock at the door. “Who is it?” She asked, her voice slightly annoyed. “It’s Clara! Let me in.” Y/N rushed to the door and opened it, pulling the girl in. “Everything ok?” She asked, noticing the solemn look on Y/N’s face. Y/N shook her head. She couldn’t stop the tear that slipped out of her eye. “Jonathan just broke up with me.” Y/N sniffled as she worked really hard to swallow her tears. Clara pulled Y/N into a tight hug. “Oh babe I’m so sorry. What a jerk. He better be planning to quit his job at the compound, or else he’ll have to deal with my wrath.” Y/N giggled, pulling away from the hug. “I gotta focus on my speech. That’s what is important right now.” Clara smiled. “You’re strong Y/N. You don’t need him. You’re gonna rock that speech.” And that’s exactly what Y/N did. Her speech was very humble, focusing on thanking her colleagues who “all played in important role in the celebration we are afforded tonight.” She sounded just as intellectual and successful as she was.
Y/N descended from the stairs of the stage as the clapping dissipated and was replaced with music. She was instantly bombarded by many people, some acquaintances, but many strangers. After all the cliche conversations, Y/N moved on to get some water. Just as she finally got a moment to clear her head, a familiar voice filled her ears. “I must say I love what you did with the place, you can really throw a gala, Y/N.” She turned to my right to see Bucky, who looked dashing in a tuxedo. The sound of his voice brought relief to her ears. His buff physique was defined sharply by the black cloth. Y/N quickly shook the thought away. “You came. I’m glad to see you here.” Bucky smiled charmingly and looked off into the crowd of people mingling. He then gestured his head towards the crowd. “Would you like to dance? It’s almost as if this song is meant for you.” Y/N’s mind instantly went to worry about Jonathan, but she quickly remembered that she didn’t have to anymore. Bucky was right about the song, the tempo was perfect. “Sure.” Y/N put down her water and followed Bucky to the ballroom floor. He wrapped his arms loosely around her waist and hers laid over his shoulders. They swayed back and forth as they conversed. It was hard for Y/N to look at anything but him when they were so close in proximity. His aftershave was intoxicating. Feeling his touch reminded Y/N of the night they spent together in the common room.
“You know, I’ve been thinking about moving out of the compound.” Bucky’s blue eyes reflected the dance light so perfectly. Y/N got so lost in them that she almost forgot to respond to his statement. “Oh, why is that? Did you find a new place?” Bucky shrugged and avoided her eyes. “I just think I need something new, you know? Plus my neighbors are kinda noisy.” Y/N pretended to be offended by his statement. “Hey, I’m one of your neighbors.” Bucky laughed. “Of course not you. You and Jonathan are quiet people.” Y/N did not correct his comment about Jonathan, she thought it best to leave that topic alone for now. “Well I’m unsure if there’s any better place to live. I wish you luck on that.” Y/N felt a strange pang in her chest after thinking about the possibility of Bucky not living near her anymore. Bucky looked longingly at Y/N. She gazed around the room, making sure everyone looks content. Her eyes eventually found their way to meet Bucky’s. With their faces at such a close distance, an awkward tension grew. The song slowed to a stop. “Well, I would stay if-“ Y/N abruptly interrupted him and slipped her arms off of Bucky’s firm shoulders. “Thank you for the dance. I should go mingle with some more guests. Please help yourself to food and drinks.” She started to walk away, and Bucky tried to stop her by calling her name. Y/N walked too fast for him to catch up.
Y/N only talked with a few people before escaping the ballroom. She desperately needed a distraction, so she wandered the halls. She walked until she could no longer hear the music nor the voices from the ballroom. She was content when she finally found the library, which had a cozy ambiance. Y/N invited herself into the room. It was dark, the only source of light being a single lamp. Most of the books were antique and leather bound. Her fingertips traced the bookshelves until she found a familiar title. Her fingertips gathered dust on them, it seems that no one uses this room often. She pulled the book out of the shelf. She opened the cover and smelt the old pages. She sat down in the nearest chair and began reading.
The pages absorbed her attention within seconds, the nostalgia of the classic tale filling her mind. She was curled up in the chair, her tight dress making it difficult to be comfortable. Irregardless, she did not know how much time had passed as she read. She was shook away from the book when a knock prompted itself gently on the door. Y/N’s head snapped up. She saw Bucky peering into the dimly lit room. “You caught me.” Y/N blushed with embarrassment. Bucky’s face shown curiosity. It was difficult for Y/N to see him after what just happened in the ballroom. She was unprepared to confront the matter. She didn’t want him to leave, but she didn’t want to tell him that, either. She also didn’t want to hear the sentence he didn’t get to finish. Without him even saying anything, Y/N felt herself building up a wall against him.
Bucky takes a seat on the armchair across from Y/N. “Whatchya reading there?” He points to the book in her hand. Y/N brushed her fingers against the pages. She felt his strong gaze stuck on her. It was intimidating in the best way possible. “Just an old friend.” Bucky nodded and hesitated before speaking again. It was difficult for him to decide what to say when all of Y/N’s answers were lacking emotion. “Is everything all right? You seem a bit off today.” Y/N looked down to the book, her fiddling with the pages intensifies. “I’m ok. What about you? Are you having a good time out there?” Bucky nodded. “Yeah, it’s a nice event.” Y/N nodded. “Find any lucky ladies out there?” She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. Bucky laughed. “Yeah I actually think I did.” Y/N smiled. “Oh I’m so happy for you. If things go well you’ll have to introduce me to her sometime.” Bucky nodded and looked down to the glass of scotch in his hand. “I can’t help but think that you’re not doing as well as you say you are.” Bucky made eye contact with Y/N and her stomach twisted into knots. She didn’t like how he could read her so well.
“Yeah, um,” She stuttered as she struggled to decide what to say. The only thing that came to her mind was Jonathan. The expression on his face when he told her he didn’t love her anymore. The image flashed in her mind like a horror film. “I just, it’s just that-” Her voice cracked and her eyes glossed with tears. Tears were like a sledgehammer to the wall she built around Bucky. As soon as she felt her eyes swell, she knew the bricks would crumble. “Jonathan broke up with me, half an hour before my speech tonight.” She attempted to sniffle back tears, but one slipped out and fell onto the book. She watched the water spread into a small puddle on the page. Her eyes remained focused on the book, so she didn’t see Bucky tighten his jaw. “And I saw it coming, I knew he was unhappy. He just didn’t tell me why. Same with my past boyfriends, they never tell me why they don’t love me anymore. I just want an answer. What is so wrong with me that makes people want to leave?” She paused for a moment and felt an instant wave of regret for being so vulnerable to Bucky. She wiped the tears off of her cheeks. The two sat in silence for a minute.
“Can I tell you what’s wrong with you?” The look on Bucky’s face was solemn. Y/N looked up, confused but intrigued. “Yeah, sure.” Bucky paused for a moment and took a sip out of his glass. Y/N looked away as he took his sip. She cannot let herself see his lips curved around the glass, his jawline flexed by the upward position of his face, the neck muscles contracting as he swallowed. However, she shifted her gaze back to him as he spoke. “Tonight is a gala, held by people in honor of you and your work. The pretty flowers, the fancy dresses, the fine beverages,” he takes another quick sip of his drink. His eyes lock with hers. “They have their heads so far up their asses that you slip away to hide in here and no one notices. Your boyfriend broke up with you moments before you had to deliver a speech in front of hundreds of people. He didn’t even consider how it could ruin your enjoyment tonight. The problem is, that you are on such a completely different level than the rest of the world, they don’t understand you. And when people want to understand you, like Jonathan, their efforts drain as time passes. You are a wonder, Y/N, and the problem isn’t you, it’s this superficial world.” Bucky gulped down the rest of his drink, making a hiss sound as he swallowed.
Y/N choked on a lump in her throat as she tried to understand everything he’d just said. “Thank you. You’re a really nice guy, Bucky.” Y/N could tell he was disappointed by her response. The way he looked down at the floor, appearing defeated. “I can’t help but think that I already know the lucky lady you found tonight.” Bucky locked eyes with Y/N, cracking a smile. She stood up from her seat, straightening out her dress. Bucky watched the black fabric outline her curves. He licked his lips. Y/N walked towards Bucky, placing one hand on his shoulder, the other cupping his jawline. She bent over to kiss his cheek. Her breath tickled his skin, causing Bucky to burst with a new sense of anticipation. She could smell the alcohol reeking off of him. “I should go show face so that no one worries about where I am.” They both knew that situation was unlikely. Y/N straightened her posture. “We should get coffee sometime.” Y/N smiled and Bucky watched as she left the room.

"God-dammit!" Bucky exclaimed as the shower head fell to the ground, the water pipe spewing everywhere. He turned the nozzle off and sighed. He grabbed a towel, wrapping it around his waist. He grabbed his soap and left his room. He walked to the room next to his, knocking on the door. Bucky stood in the hallway, embarrassed. He hoped no one would walk by. Jonathan answered, chuckling at the shirtless dude in front of him. "Hey, can I use your shower real quick? Mine just broke." Jonathan squinted at him, skeptical of this request. "Sure. Come on in." He opened the door wider to let Bucky enter. The room looked identical to his, except it was more personalized. He could tell what areas had Y/N's stuff because it had character to it. The room smelt faintly of her. He followed Jonathan to the bathroom. "I have to head to a meeting. Just lock the door when you leave, ok?" Bucky nodded uncomfortably, thanking him. He hoped Y/N would be there instead. She would make the conversation easier.
Bucky showered quickly, noticing Y/N's soap on the shelf. He couldn't help himself but to smell it, the sweet scent. He smiled to himself as he placed the bottle back exactly where it was. He got out of the shower and used his towel to pat himself dry. He secured it around his waist and left the bathroom. "Hey neighbor!" Y/N was sitting on her bed, eating a snack. She noticed Bucky's exposed figure, his damp hair, the water droplets along his torso. She was glad she had food to help swallow the lump in her throat. She also used this as an excuse to lick her lips. Bucky's breath quickened. He was surprised to see her. She looked good even in her casual clothes. "Hey." Bucky said awkwardly. "My shower broke. Jonathan let me in." Y/N nodded. "I figured as much. Nice haircut by the way. Big change." Bucky smiled at the compliment, tightening the towel around his waist. "Thanks. I thought I should try something new." Y/N nodded, avoiding eye contact with him. What she didn’t know was that he also got the haircut to try and impress her. It was working. She hasn't seen him in a few weeks and this new sight was tempting her. "Are things better between you two?" Bucky asked, walking towards the door. "Yeah, things are better. I think we worked it out." She smiled small. "Well that's good. I'm happy for you." Bucky smiled back at her. Within this exchange of smiles, however, they saw a part of themselves that wanted a different reality. They both paused for a second. "Let me know if there's anything I can do for you, to return the favor." Bucky said as he left. Once she was sure he was gone, Y/N let out a deep breath she didn't know she was holding in. Damn, he looked fine.
_________
A few more weeks went by, Y/N's latest work project becoming a massive success. It was such a success that her friends were throwing a gala in her name. As another treat, Y/N was invited to another Avenger's meeting. Bucky watched as Y/N entered the room, glowing with confidence. She couldn't help but look at him too. She thought about the last time she saw him, shirtless with a fresh haircut. Natasha nudged Steve in the shoulder. He looked at the silent exchange between Bucky and Y/N. Steve was surprised. How did he not notice Bucky had something, even if it was a friendship, with Y/N? Well now he ought to get to know her. "No longer a rookie, huh?" Steve asked as Y/N sat in her chair. She laughed while clicking her pen. "It was a team effort." Tony sat down in the chair backwards, a toothpick in his mouth. "Shut up, Y/N. Don't be humble for once. Now let's get down to business."
After an hour of disputes between Y/N and Tony, the team finally came to a decision for the mission. It was entertaining for everyone to see someone challenge Tony so much. They all thought Steve was pushing it. Bucky especially liked watching Y/N at work. It was a refreshing sight. "See? Piece of cake. Now we can have lunch." Tony dismissed the group, most of the Avengers scattering immediately. Y/N stayed behind for a moment, taking a second look at her notes. "You gonna eat?" Bucky asked her, causing her head to pop up. She couldn't help but smile up at him. "Yeah. Yeah. Let's go."
Bucky and Y/N sat together at lunch, the rest of the Avengers giving them weird looks. "Ignore them. They can get cliquey." Bucky said as they sat down. "So your project, pretty impressive stuff." Y/N blushed. His compliments felt different, in a good way. "Thank you. You know, my friends and coworkers, they're actually throwing a gala for the project. A celebration, if you will." Bucky nodded. "Oh I didn't know about that. I did hear that they were throwing a gala for you, though." Y/N giggled through her nose. "It's not for me, I won't allow it. Anyways, you should come tomorrow night. I think you'd like it." Bucky shrugged. "Maybe. Parties aren't really my thing." Y/N nodded. "Fair enough. Jonathan's the same way." Bucky looked around the cafeteria, unsure of what to say next. "Speaking of which, how are you guys doing?" Y/N's face fell from happy to indifferent. "We're good." Bucky raised an eyebrow. "You sure?" Y/N fiddled with her straw. "Well if I'm being honest, things are a little stagnant between us. But I think that's just how he is, you know? He likes excitement in small doses. I'm trying to keep things interesting though. He lives practically the same day over again here in the compound, he needs some variety in his life." Y/N stared off into space. "I'm sorry, I'm rambling." Bucky smiled small. "Don't worry about it. I can tell you needed to get that off your chest." Y/N looked up at him, returning the smile. "Thanks, you're a good friend. What about Bucky's love life? Any fishes in the sea for you?" Bucky laughed and shook his head. "No, I'm focusing on my work for now. I'm gonna wait for something special to come around." Y/N swallowed her food. "Well don't wait too long, or you might miss the chance of having anything at all." Bucky nodded, thinking to himself that Y/N is the special thing he’s waiting for.
_________
After lunch, Steve met up with Bucky. "Man, you didn't tell me you had a thing for Y/N." Bucky tried to act confused. "What thing?" Steve didn't buy it. "I know you, Buck. I also was watching you at lunch. It's obvious. You should make a move on her. Word around here is that her boyfriend sucks. Apparently he cheated on her." Bucky shook his head. "I don't like her." Steve continued talking anyways. "You know, you should go to the gala tomorrow. Coming from you, I think it would impress her." Bucky listened to Steve's advice but continued to play dumb. "You deserve to be happy, Buck. The only thing in your way is yourself."
_________
That night, Y/N hung out with Clara in the common room, watching a comedy movie and drinking wine. Clara ended up getting drowsy, heading to bed early. Bucky walked by, noticing Y/N by herself. He entered the room, sitting next to her on the couch. "Hey neighbor." Y/N's words slurred. Bucky noticed the bottle of wine and the strong smell of Y/N's breath. "Hey, whatchya watching?" Y/N squinted her eyes at the television screen. "I don't remember." They both started laughing. "Want some wine? I'll go grab you a glass." Y/N hops off the couch and stubs her toe on the table on the way to the kitchen. "Ow." She hissed in pain and Bucky smiled at how cute she was. She shortly returned with another glass of wine and a package of crackers.
The two sat and talked for a while, enjoying each other's company. Bucky had just finished telling a funny story about him and Steve. "I know I'm drunk right now so I don't know if this makes sense..." Her eyes wandered to her jeans, where she rubbed her finger against a crease. "But I like you. You're a good person. Johnathan told me to stay away from you, but I don’t want to listen to him. He’s never even told me a story as good as that one. And he doesn't listen to my stories. He's just so boring." Bucky just sat there, realizing he's not nearly as drunk as she was. He didn't know if he should respond with humor or agreement. "I do so much for him, but I'm starting to second guess myself." She looked at Bucky, expecting a response. He didn't say anything. "I'm not making sense. I've had too much wine." However, it all made sense to Bucky. She put down her glass and sat back on the couch.
"Now, I have a totally random question. And excuse me if I'm pushing boundaries but, can I feel your metal arm?" Bucky laughed and nodded, reaching his arm out to Y/N. She glanced down as her hand smoothed over the metal surface. "It's beautiful. Probably hurts like a mother if you're getting punched with it though." Bucky laughed. "It's true. If you ever need me to punch anyone with it, just let me know." Y/N took her turn to laugh, resting her head on his shoulder. But Bucky was being serious, and he was talking about Jonathan. As she stopped laughing, Y/N looked up into Bucky's eyes. Their faces were close, they could feel each other's breath on their skin. Y/N brushed her fingertips over his cheek, a simple motion that caused Bucky an assortment of responses. His veins constricted, his heartbeat and breath quickened, his stomach did flips, his skin tingled, his jaw opened, his mind begged for more. Bucky gulped a swallow. Y/N's mind pictured him shirtless again. Y/N smiled and looked down, her hand and body distancing themselves from him. He understood how she felt, she couldn't do to Jonathan what he'd done to her, even if he deserved it. Regardless, Bucky felt immediate regret for not moving closer or pulling her in. That's the consequence of trying to relish the moment. "I should get some sleep. Big day tomorrow."

Y/N lifted the covers and hopped into bed like a child, giggling. Jonathan sat, unamused, with his glasses on while reading from a manual. "You should stay away from that Bucky guy." He said without moving his eyes from the page. Y/N settled into her seat, confused. "Why do you say that?" Jonathan looked over his glasses at Y/N. "He's an ex-assassin. I don't trust him." Y/N shook her head. "If he was any threat he wouldn't be freely roaming the halls of the compound. Plus, I can't help who I'm assigned to work with." Jonathan furrowed his eyebrows. "I thought you were in charge." Y/N laughed. "Tony gets the final say." After releasing a "hmpf," Jonathan continued his reading. Y/N sat there awkwardly, unsure of what to do. "You know, I was thinking we could have a date night sometime soon." Jonathan looked up and smiled at Y/N. "I agree. Want to do a movie night on Thursday?" Y/N nodded. "Sure. First one to the common room gets to pick the movie." Jonathan sighed. "You know I'm never on time." Y/N smirked. "Exactly." Jonathan shook his head and placed a kiss on Y/N's lips. "Silly girl." He said before reaching over to turn off the bedside lamp. _________
The week passed quickly, Bucky doing his new training and Y/N starting on a new project with Dr. Banner. Y/N and Bucky only passed each other once in the hall. After saying "hey neighbor," she asked him how the training was going, and he replied that it was good. Something about the interaction, maybe her immediate smile, the way she swiftly stopped walking, or her light touch to his arm. Something about seeing her stuck in Bucky's mind. He liked to think about it at night, to distract him from other thoughts. He didn't care if he smiled like an idiot while thinking about it, she made it a point to talk to him in the hall.
——————
Y/N woke up early Thursday morning to help the Avengers get ready for a quick mission. Bucky watched her from his window on the Quinjet. The tired but excited look on her face as she spoke with a group of people. Afterwards, Y/N went back to her office where she spent the day typing out reports. She didn't check the time until her hand started cramping, which was at about 6pm. She clocked out for the day and wandered the halls of the compound. She walked past Jonathan's office, where she saw him talking to a coworker. Wanting to enter the room, Y/N put her hand on the handle. However, she hesitated. She saw the charming look on Jonathan's face, the woman next to him laughing. Y/N was familiar with the look he gave the woman, it was the same one he gave her when they first started dating. Feeling immediate jealousy, Y/N let go of her grasp on the handle and walked back to her room. As she showered, she also bathed in anxious thoughts. What if he skips our date night? What if he is cheating on me? What if he breaks up with me, for her? Nevertheless, Y/N put on a cute outfit and her sweet perfume.
She headed to the common room, where there was no Jonathan to be found. Y/N looked at her watch, 7:13pm. The latest Jonathan has ever been is 7:30. She decided to make popcorn and chose her movie. She sat on the couch and waited until 7:45, when she understood that he wasn't coming. Y/N took out her phone and texted her friend Clara, inviting her to watch the movie. Clara made her way down instantly and the two had a girls night. "You know, I found it odd that you wanted to hang on a weekday. You're usually up to your nose in work." Y/N nodded, finishing the bowl of popcorn. "I moved some things around my calendar this week. This time was supposed to be for Jonathan, but I think he forgot." Clara pouted and hugged Y/N. "Oh I'm so sorry. What a jerk, he can't even make time for you." Y/N laughed and shook her head, trying to deny what she saw in his office earlier. "I don't think it's like that. We haven't had a date in a while. It probably didn't work out for his schedule." Clara grabbed Y/N's hand. "I don't know why you always insist on giving him the benefit of the doubt. I know he's a great guy, but he doesn't prioritize you Y/N." Y/N said nothing as she stood up, taking the empty bowl back to the kitchen. "Well thanks for giving me company. I think I should go to bed now." Clara gave Y/N one last hug before heading back to her room. Y/N washed a few dishes, putting them promptly in the dishwasher. Alone with her thoughts again, Y/N felt a tear slip out of her eye. "Stupid." She said to herself as she wiped it away. "You're worrying over nothing."
Y/N returned to her room, but dropped her key on the ground as she approached the door. From the outside she could hear moans. Her heart skipped a beat as her eyes blurred. One of her hands covered her mouth to quiet her reactionary sobs. She crawled to the opposite side of the door, where she sat against the wall and cried. Her suspicions were right.
_________
Bucky was exhausted from his mission, desperate to collapse in his bed. He took a hot shower, put on comfy clothes, and even lit a candle for relaxation. Just as his eyes were about to close, he heard moaning from next door. He knew it was Y/N and Jonathan, and the idea of them together sexually really interrupted his sleep. What does she see in that asshole anyway? Bucky got out of bed and blew out the candle. He grabbed his pillow and left his room, a pout on his face. He closed the door behind him and turned around to see Y/N, hugging her knees to her face, quietly whimpering. Bucky clenched his jaw and his fist as he pieced together what was happening. He pulled back his anger as he approached Y/N, sitting next to her on the ground. She looked up to see Bucky, who gave her a sympathetic smile. Y/N wiped her tears with the back of her hand and sniffled. "What are you doing up?" Bucky shrugged. "Noisy neighbors." He said casually. Y/N nodded. "Where are you going?" She asked, pointing to the pillow. "Probably the common room. Wanna come with?" Y/N nodded as she stood up, walking with Bucky down the hall. "How did the mission go?" She couldn't help but ask. "It was good. We got what we needed and got out." Y/N smiled small. "Good. That's good."
Y/N told Bucky to choose a movie as she excused herself to use the restroom. She ended up crying in the stall for another ten minutes. She washed her face, her puffy eyes persisting. She grabbed the box of tissues from the counter and went back to the common room. Bucky was sitting on the couch, twiddling his thumbs and staring off into space. He spent the time relishing in anger. Johnathan better hope he doesn’t run into Bucky again. "Thanks for waiting. Sorry I took so long." Y/N said with a groggy voice. His head peaked up as Y/N sat next to him on the couch. "Take all the time you need." Bucky grabbed the remote, pressing play on the movie.
Y/N didn't watch the movie. Instead she thought about everything she did wrong that could've led Jonathan to cheat on her. She grabbed tissue after tissue to catch the tears she let out silently. Bucky knew this was all happening, but he was unsure of what to do about it. He wanted to comfort her, but he didn't want to overstep any boundaries. About twenty minutes in, he looked over to Y/N, who looked away in embarrassment. "I'm sorry you have to see me like this. I know it's killing the vibe." Bucky shook his head. "Don't you dare apologize. He's a jerk." Y/N looked down to her lap, she used to wonder why people told her that. "Is there anything I can do?" Bucky asked, handing her his pillow. "It's ok. Let's just watch the movie." She pressed a button on her side to recline her chair. Bucky did the same, not knowing that was what the button did. The two sat in silence as the movie played. Y/N drifted off into sleep, her head falling onto Bucky's shoulder. Bucky looked over to Y/N and smiled to himself. She was now close enough for him to smell her perfume. Eventually, Bucky also let himself fall asleep. During the night, Y/N wrapped her arm around Bucky's, their palms touching.
Bucky woke up at sunrise, when the light shown through the curtains. He blinked his eyes open and shifted slightly in his seat, causing Y/N to wake up immediately. As much as she enjoyed the comfort of his muscular arm, she slowly unwrapped herself from him. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean for that to happen." Bucky shook his head, his arm tingling from her touch. "No problem." He smiled. Y/N pressed a button to move her seat back from its reclined position. "Thank you, for um staying with me." Bucky nodded. "Of course. And not to sound corny but my door is always open if you ever want to talk about it." Y/N laughed, remembering the exact conversation Bucky was referencing. They both stood up from the couch. Y/N pulled Bucky in for a hug that lasted too short. She didn't realize how good he smelt until then. Bucky enjoyed holding her in his embrace. He felt an instant need to protect and care for her. She pulled away from the hug, handing Bucky his pillow. He smiled. "See you around Y/N." Bucky left the room before his excitement overtook him. Y/N sighed as she picked the loose tissues on the couch. She threw them away and headed back to her room to get ready for the day.
When she returned to her room, Y/N looked around, clothes and bed sheets scattered all over the place. She bit her lip as she held back tears. The shower was running and Y/N could smell Jonathan’s soap. Please don’t be in there together. She begged. Y/N got dressed for the day, deciding to skip the shower. Jonathan left the bathroom, his hair wet. “Where were you last night?” He asked casually. “I was in the common room. Waiting for our date. Then I came back up here and I heard, I heard-“ tears swelled in her eyes. "Babe, I can explain-" Y/N cut him off. "You don't have to explain! I know what happened!" Bucky could hear her yell from his room. He hated to hear how broken she sounded. "I'm sorry." Jonathan said, his eyes watery. He walked towards Y/N, but she took a harsh step back. "You're still the one." He tried compensating. "We need a break. I don't want to see you here when I come home tonight." A tear slipped from his eye. "Ok. I still love you, Y/N." He left the room and Y/N sat on the bed, crying.
Y/N took all of the bedding from her room down to hospitality services to be washed. After that, she had a long day at work, where she was stuck typing on her computer. She broke her focus when a knock sounded on her office door. She was pleased to see Bucky there, standing shyly. "Come in." Bucky entered and stood in front of her desk. "Are you doing ok?" He looked concerned. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a lot of work." She massaged the bridge of her nose. "Well I'm about to get dinner if you wanted to come with me." Y/N looked at the clock. She couldn't believe she'd been working nonstop all day. "Oh, um yeah sure why not?" She logged off her computer and walked with Bucky to the dining hall. She saw Jonathan sitting at a table in the corner of the room, staring sadly at his food. "Come on. Don't look at him." Bucky said, tugging her arm.
After getting food, Y/N also spotted Clara eating by herself. The two decided to sit with her and Y/N filled her in on what Jonathan did. Clara's face became red with anger. "Oh that son of a-" Clara stood up and looked around the room for Jonathan. Y/N reached to place a hand on hers. "Calm down. It's ok." Clara huffed as she sat down. "Ugh! So are you guys over now?" Y/N shrugged. "I don't know. We're on a break right now. I have to think about it." Clara shook her head. "I wouldn't stay with him. Can you back me up, Bucky?" Bucky's eyes widened. He was not expecting to be brought into the conversation. "It's not my decision to make." As much as he wanted to be with her, he did not want to sway Y/N's opinion only for his benefit. "I'm just looking out for you, hun. If you do take him back, at least make him pay hell for it first." Everyone laughed as they continued eating their food.
_________
The first night without Jonathan was lonely. Y/N spent many nights crying herself to sleep. She thought he was the one for her, why would he hurt her like this? Sometimes she thought about Bucky instead, how comforting it felt sleeping next to him. Bucky thought about this much more often.
After a week had passed since the cheating, Jonathan sat with Y/N at lunch. At first, he made his apologies. These lunches involved a lot of tears and no responses from Y/N. Bucky remembered Natasha asking him what happened between the two of them. He pretended he did not know, understanding how fast workplace gossip spreads. Next, Jonathan made his pleas. It was kind of pathetic to see him beg her so much to come back. Then he made his gifts. Teddy bears, chocolates, flowers, jewelry, letters. Most of it ended up in the trash. One day, however, something shifted. Jonathan must have said the perfect concoction of words because Bucky saw them kissing in the rain from his window. He felt his stomach turn. Since Y/N's promotion, she's been working on larger projects, giving her less time with the Avengers. Bucky has barely gotten to know Y/N and now she's back together with Jonathan. Bucky decided that it is time for him to move on from Y/N, and he should focus on more important things, like his missions.

"Y/N? Are you with us?" Y/N snapped her head up. She didn't realize she was staring off into space. The recent sleep deprivation has been costly. So costly that occasionally she sleeps with her eyes open. This meeting was important to plan the attack for the next mission. "Yeah. Sorry." She looked around the room, embarrassed. Bucky Barnes shifted in his seat. Y/N sparked his curiosity. He'd noticed her when he first entered the room, but he wasn't sure why she was there. Half of the room was filled with Avengers, the other half was experts and strategists. "Any suggestions?" Tony asked her, testing her attention span. "I'll have to think on it." Y/N said casually. "How about we take a lunch break. Clear our minds. Meet back here in 30 minutes?" Steve suggested. "Sorry, no one told me you're in charge of meetings now." Tony remarked. "Come on Tony. Look around. Everyone's tired. We'll figure it out after." Steve did have a point. Y/N wasn't the only one who looked drained.
During her lunch break, Y/N went back to her room, where she took a quick power nap. Bucky followed behind her, realizing his room was right next to hers. He wanted to know who she was, so he waited in his room until the lunch break was almost over. He left his room the same time as her. "Hey neighbor." Y/N said, looking refreshed. "Hi. I'm Bucky." Y/N shook his non-metal hand. "I know. I'm Y/N, I work in strategy." Bucky nodded, walking along Y/N's side in the hall. "Ah, that's why you were so tired. They overwork you." Y/N nodded. "Precisely. But I've never enjoyed a job as much as this one. I mean come on, I get free meals and lodging. Who'd pass that up?" The two of them laughed as they reentered the meeting room. "Y/N, welcome back. I'm ready to hear your ideas." Tony pressured her immediately.
_________
When the meeting finally ended, everyone left to grab dinner. Y/N sat with one of her colleagues, where they continued the discussion of the meeting. Her wandering glance noticed several times that Bucky was looking at her. He was sitting with the rest of the Avengers, who were talking about getting suit upgrades. Even though he couldn't hear her, he liked the way she talked with people. She seemed very enthusiastic and educated. "Oh, you like smart girl over there?" Natasha said quietly as motioned her head towards Y/N. Bucky shook his head, not realizing how long he'd been watching her. "No, I just didn't know who she was." Natasha smiled. "It's fine Bucky. You see him over there?" She pointed to a security guard in the corner of the room. He looked off into the distance to see the attractive man. Bucky looked back at Natasha, who wiggled her eyebrows. "We all have a normal person that we're interested in." Bucky looked back at Y/N and watched as a man approached her, interrupting her conversation. Y/N looked up at the man with a smile. The man bent down to give her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Natasha hissed. "Oh, she's taken. Sorry bud." Bucky looked down at his food, no longer interested in anything beyond his plate.
_________
The next day, the team had a successful mission. It did include some hasty improvising that Tony planned to discuss with Y/N about. He was still wearing his iron suit and had scratches on his face but he wanted to be sure Y/N wrote down his critiques. Y/N walked outside, seeing the Avengers standing in a circle, Steve and Natasha sitting on the ground. A medic cleaned up their wounds as Y/N spoke with Tony. Bucky watched the conversation keenly. Y/N took notes and was very receptive to the critiques. For a moment she seemed to be more patient with Tony than Steve was. That was, until she disagreed with Tony on something. Tony claimed that a mistake was due to her strategy but she believed it had to do with his suit. "Let's test it right now. Stand up there, fly down and blast that trash can." Y/N was confident. Tony did as she said, proving her to be right. "I'll let you get away with that for now." Was all Tony said before walking inside. Y/N scribbled something down in her notebook, smiling to herself. When she looked up, she caught eyes with Bucky, maintaining her smile before walking inside.
_________
The team split up for the next mission. Each strategist was assigned an Avenger to tackle individual weaknesses. Since Y/N showed up pretty well to Tony, she got promoted to Chief Strategist. Therefore, she was given the hardest team member to work with: Bucky. Bucky was only hard to work with because he doesn't engage with people often. He likes to have a plan and the less that plan involves other people the better. What Y/N would find, however, is that Bucky is easy to work with, so she didn't exactly understand what people meant by that.
Y/N entered the meeting room with a computer and notepad. Bucky sat at the table, relieved to see Y/N as his strategist. Y/N sat across from him and logged onto her laptop. "So, what do you feel is your biggest weakness on missions?" She stood up to plug her laptop into the projector. Bucky watched her as he tried to think of his answer. "I guess it would be that I can't fly so I'm always stuck on the ground. I rarely have a height leverage." Y/N nodded, sitting back down. "What if I told you that doesn't really put you at a disadvantage?" Bucky furrowed his eyebrows, confused. "I mean, if flying was the main priority for a mission, only half of the team would be going. After looking at some of Tony's footage, it looks to me that your main weakness is your range." Y/N played a clip on the projector that showed Bucky falling because he couldn't reach behind him. "That metal arm isn't so flexible, yeah?" Bucky sat, astonished. "Yeah, you know what, you're right. I never realized that before." Y/N nodded, typing something on her computer. "So I scheduled you some training sessions this week. They're gonna teach you some new combat moves and flexibility, so it shouldn't be as much of a problem anymore." Bucky nodded, content with the plan.
"Wow. That was easy." Y/N said. "They told me you were the hardest to work with but if I was with Tony I'd be in a meeting for hours." They both laughed as Y/N shut her laptop. "So how's the compound life treating you?" Y/N switched topics. Bucky shrugged. "I mean I can't complain. I've spent a lot of time living in torture chambers." Y/N nodded, understanding the seriousness of the conversation. "I read that in your file. Are you getting any help for dealing with that stuff? You know, mental health is just as important as your physical health." Bucky shrugged again, not really answering her question. "Well there's a lot of resources here so use whatever you need. Not to sound corny, but I'm also available if you ever need someone to talk to. You know where my room is. My door is always open, unless my boyfriend is sleeping, in which case I advise you not to come to our door." Y/N laughed, realizing the ramble she went on. “Wanna grab lunch? I’m starving.” Bucky took up her offer, walking by her side in the halls. Along the way, he got a whiff of her perfume, which was a pleasant and enticing scent.
“Are you single? I can hook you up with my friend Clara. She’s the sweetest person you’ll ever meet.” Bucky shrugged, taking a bite of his sandwich. “Thank you but I’m not interested in a relationship right now.” Bucky lied. To tell the truth he was lonely. To tell another truth he was interested in Y/N. “Understandable.” Y/N said as Bucky swallowed his food. “So what’s your boyfriend like?” Y/N bit her lip as she thought of the perfect way to describe him. “Jonathan works over in aircraft. He’s very logical, focused. He has big plans here.” Bucky raised his eyebrows. “What about you? Do you have plans here?” Y/N nodded, poking around at her side salad. “I do, but they’re not as ambitious as his, you know? I’m already Chief of Strategy so I’m not sure how much further I can go.” Bucky shook his head. “Don’t limit yourself. I can tell you got potential.” Y/N smiled at his compliment. “Thanks Bucky, you’re a nice guy. What about you? Do plan to stay here, work government contracts?” Bucky nodded. “For now. But I guess wherever Steve goes I’ll go.” Y/N awed. “That’s sweet. I love a good friendship.” They both sat in an awkward silence as they thought of something to say. “What do you do for fun?” Bucky scrunched his eyebrows. “I don’t do anything.” Y/N rolled her eyes. “Come on. You gotta do something. You like music? Movies?” Bucky shrugged. “40s music is nice.” Y/N's eyes beamed. "Oh you must know Frank Sinatra, yeah?" Bucky nodded. "Yeah he's all right." Y/N took a large bite of food. "Classic." she said with a mouthful.
"Well, well, well, if it ain't two troublemakers." A man approached the table from behind Y/N. "Jonathan!" Y/N said, excited. She pulled out the chair next to her and the man took a seat, plopping his food on the table. "As you may know, this is Bucky." Y/N tried introducing the two, and Bucky corrected her by saying "James" as he shook Jonathan's hand. Y/N's eyebrow wrinkled. "You do nice work out there, kicking ass." Jonathan complimented as he began eating. Bucky nodded and looked down at his food, no longer interested in conversation. "How's aircraft today?" Y/N asked Jonathan. "Stupid, as usual." Y/N playfully rolled her eyes, but Bucky took him seriously. "What's stupid about it?" Jonathan swallowed and wiped a crumb out of the corner of his mouth with a napkin. "Everyone is so caught up in team work when sometimes things could be faster if we just worked alone." Y/N chuckled to herself. "Easy for you to say when you know everything that goes on there. Not everyone is as advanced as you." Bucky held back an eye roll, growing a distaste for the way Y/N was feeding the man's ego. Jonathan caught onto this, sensing a feeling of disapproval from Bucky. "You'll see. Things will be better once I'm promoted to supervisor." No one replied, instead eating more food.
"So how did you two meet? Is Bucky not logical enough or something?" Jonathan tried cracking a joke. "No, we just split up into groups so everyone needed help." Y/N rebutted. Jonathan shook his head. "They just say that to make the weaker ones feel better. The airborne Avengers: Iron Man, Vision, Falcon, their combat is much more calculated, less error." Y/N smacked Jonathan's shoulder. Bucky expressed an eye roll this time. He didn't know why he was still sitting with this obnoxious couple. "Be nice. And that's not true. Remember when I told you I proved Tony wrong about his suit versus my strategy?" Jonathan shook his head, a confused look on his face. "Well anyways, that's how I got promoted. I'm at a higher rank than you now." She stuck her tongue out a Jonathan, who gave her a kiss on the lips, smirking at Bucky as he pulled away. Y/N regained composure, wiping a hand over her mouth. "I'm sorry Bucky. I promise he's nice when he opens up to you." She looked at her watch. "Shit. I have a meeting in five minutes. I'll see you guys later." Y/N quickly grabbed her bag, gave Jonathan a kiss on the cheek, and promptly left. The two men sat in an awkward silence. Jonathan swallowed the last bite of his food, glaring at Bucky.
"You don't go taking my girl, got it?" Asshole. Bucky nodded affirmatively, picking up his trash and leaving the table. ——————

“Steve?” Bucky turned around to give his friend a hug. It wasn’t the Steve that Bucky was used to seeing, that is the Captain America Steve. This was the scrawny man he’d known before the war. The Steve that picked fights he’d never win. “How you doing man?” Bucky gave him a hug, even though something about it felt weird. “Y/N, looking great as always.” Y/N smiled and thanked Steve. “Today’s a big day for a hero.” Steve said, shoving his hands into his pockets. Bucky was taken aback. Did Steve really just call him a hero? “Yeah, but he’s got this.” Y/N put a comforting hand on Bucky’s shoulder. Bucky stood clueless, waiting to finally understand what he did that makes him such a hero. “Of course he does, that’s Bucky! I’ll talk to you guys more at the reception later.” Y/N waved off Steve as he entered the building. As Y/N and Bucky approached the doors, Y/N stopped. “Wait.” She pulled the hat out of Bucky’s hand and fastened it on his head. “There we go.” As they passed through the doors, two teenagers handed them pamphlets. Bucky looked inside, searching for his name amongst many others.
Louis M. Arnold — POW and Army Medic.
Richard A. Barkley — Navy Lieutenant, saved 13 US ships from sinking.
James B. Barnes — Army Sergeant, rescued 5 American hostages.
Bucky’s eyebrows furrowed, knowing full and well that he never saved those lives. He folded the paper and put it in his coat pocket. Nerves ran through his body as he hoped that no one knew the truth. Y/N walked Bucky to the backstage area, where several other military personnel stood in a discussion. Y/N nudged her head towards them. “Don’t be shy. They’re your people. When you go on stage, just look at me, and everything will be ok.” She reached on her tip toes to give Bucky a kiss on the cheek before leaving him. Bucky looked around at all of the people, his nerves still persistent. He walked to the far corner of the room, where he found a door. “Hey, we’re on in two minutes.” A man grabbed his arm as Bucky started to walk outdoors. “Just a quick smoke. I’ll be back.” Bucky lied to the man as he left the doors, taking a walk down the street. He watched children ride on bicycles, their parents thanking him for his service. Bucky smiled politely while internally rejecting their kindness. He continued walking, no destination or plan in mind. Sweat droplets formed on his face, so he removed his hat. Bucky almost forgot about the beaming sun that shone in his eyes this morning.
A pit formed in Bucky’s stomach when he realized he left Y/N in the auditorium. I’ll just deal with the consequences later. Trying to shake his mind off of it, he grabbed a newspaper from the trash and entered a random coffee shop, where the server offered him a free drink. Damn, this uniform can get you anything. Most avengers aren’t even treated this good. Bucky sat and read the newspaper for a while, finding absolutely nothing about it entertaining. He decided to leave a little while later and found his way back home. He noticed the car in the driveway. Y/N’s home. Bucky swallowed a lump in his throat, unprepared for what could possibly come. He approached the door and opened it, just like how he did the day before.
“Good evening honey.” Bucky was greeted by a cheery Y/N, who was ironing his clothes. She looked exactly the same as she did yesterday, hair curlers and all. The house was the same, and Bucky noticed his uniform folded on his memorabilia shelf. He gazed down to see the same suit he wore yesterday. Bucky felt a wave of deja vu wash over him. “You’re not upset?” Bucky asked, causing Y/N to grow a confused look on her face. “Why would I be upset? Are you ok James?” She approached Bucky, giving him a peck on the lips. “Yeah, I’m fine, the um, the ceremony-“ Bucky was cut off by Y/N. “That’s right! Your ceremony is tomorrow. Don’t worry, I’ll have everything laid out for you in the morning.” That’s when he realized what was going on. Bucky was in some sort of time loop.
Bucky closed the door behind him, following Y/N to the kitchen. “Can I help with dinner?” Bucky asked shyly. Y/N smiled as she placed a pan on the stove. “Of course, but I don’t want your suit to get dirty. She walked briskly towards Bucky, pulling his coat off of his shoulders. She held the coat over her elbow as she undid his tie. Bucky watched intently as her soft hands twisted and turned. Bucky reached up and cupped her face. “How did I get so lucky to have you?” Y/N laughed. “I should be asking you that.” Her eyes met Bucky’s. For the first time in the last two days, he got to really look in her eyes. And the way she looked back proved that something about this world is too real. Bucky leaned in and kissed Y/N passionately. Y/N reciprocated, tugging his tie to pull him closer. The kisses intensified, and Y/N dropped his coat on the ground. She pulled away from the kiss for a moment, but Bucky pulled her back in. Bucky longed for each kiss, to feel her lips against his. He acted as if he was deprived of her. Bucky picked up Y/N, placing her on the kitchen table, a squeal escaping her lips. He leaned over her, her hands reaching up to his collar. Bucky saw the same longing he felt in her eyes. He brushed his thumb over her lips. He bent down and kissed her neck as her fingers twirled circles in his hair. “James.” Y/N sighed out a breath. The two were broken out of their kiss when water boiled over on the stove. “The pasta!” Y/N pushed Bucky off of her and ran over to the crisis. Bucky bit his lip and smiled as she watched her diffuse the chaos.
The two made dinner together, Bucky taking any spare second to kiss Y/N, squeeze her butt, or whisper in her ear. He was relieved that his mistake from yesterday was erased and he could start new again with Y/N. He promised himself he wouldn’t take her for granted this time. “You make me so happy.” Bucky said at dinner, causing her to blush. “I’m very glad to hear that. You make me very happy too. Are you nervous for tomorrow?” She asked, poking at her food. That was something she did when she was full but was waiting for Bucky to finish eating. Bucky took in a deep breath. “A little bit.” Y/N reached her hand over the table to hold his. “You’ll do great. I’m sure of it. After all, you’re a hero, James.”
After eating, Y/N and Bucky retreated to the bedroom, where certain activities were performed. They ended up cuddling and stroking each other’s hair afterwards. “You know, you can call me Bucky if you want.” Y/N laughed. “You’re kidding right? You only let Steve call you Bucky.” He smiled. “I know, but I like the way it sounds when you say it.” What he really meant to say was, I miss when you say it. Y/N gave him a kiss. “I love you Bucky.” They both smiled widely, feeling butterflies like teenagers again. “I love you too, Y/N.”
The next morning, they both got ready for the ceremony and drove to the auditorium. This time Bucky wasn’t as surprised to see Steve in a different form. Before departing with Bucky, Y/N gave him a kiss for good luck, the military men wooing for them. Bucky stood awkwardly amongst the men, unsure if he should leave out the door again. Before he had time to decide, a woman pushed him into a line and handed him a slip of paper. “Just in case you need some talking points.” The paper read: give thanks to family, friends, mentors, community. “Now remember everyone, after you finish your speech, exit the stage on the right and go sit with your loved ones.” Bucky put the paper in his pocket as the host on stage introduced the audience to the event. Bucky was third in line, a concept that gave him shaky hands. Before he knew it, his time for a speech arrived. The host mentioned how Bucky saved 5 hostages and the crowd went crazy.
Bucky walked to the microphone, swallowing before speaking. “When you’re in battle, all you think about is how you’ll get out. You think about who you have waiting for you at home.” Bucky glanced up at the crowd, easily spotting a teary-eyed Y/N. He kept eye contact with her as he continued his speech. “When I think about those hostages, I think about who was waiting for them at home. That’s what we do this for, our loved ones. We fight for you.” The crowd erupted in applause as Bucky stepped away from the microphone. “What a hero! Sargent James Barnes everyone.” Bucky sat next to Y/N in the audience, holding her hand for the remainder of the ceremony.
The reception was cute, coffees and cookies, with small talk, and many pats on the back for Bucky. People kept calling him a hero, and a few asked for a more detailed story, to which he declined and Y/N carried the rest of the conversation. Steve finally found them, with a girl wrapped around his arm. “I would like you to meet Sarah. She’s my girlfriend.” Everyone smiled. Y/N greeted Sarah warmly. “You two look like a happy couple.” Bucky added, to which Steve nodded. “Yeah. We are happy. We should go out to eat sometime.” Y/N became excited at the idea, leaving with Sarah to hash out details. Steve looked at Bucky, who was watching Y/N keenly. “What’s wrong, man? Are things not going well with Y/N?” Bucky shook his head. “No, in fact it’s going a little too well.” Steve laughed, patting Bucky on the back. “It’s ok to let yourself be happy, you know? I know the war was hard, but now you got a light at the end of the tunnel. You deserve it Buck.” Bucky looked down at his shoes and swallowed. It hurt him that this wasn’t his reality. He couldn’t actually have this happy life.
Y/N and Sarah returned with smiling faces. “I like this girl. Keep her around Steve.” The couple departed and soon after Y/N and Bucky went home. It was a peaceful car ride, but Y/N could see the wheels turning in Bucky’s head. The iron grip he had on the steering wheel, the focused stare. It was something Bucky always did when he was on a mission or reminded of something traumatic. “Something wrong Bucky?” Y/N asked, eager to help calm him down. Bucky clenched his jaw, tears forming in his eyes. All he thought about was how much he missed her, the real Y/N. The Y/N that understood his pain and didn’t have to ask about it a million times. He was so lost in thought he didn’t notice the car coming towards him head-on. “Bucky!” Was the last thing he heard before everything went black.
——————
Bucky opened his eyes and saw himself confronted with the house door again. He entered inside and saw Y/N, not injured, and perfectly fine ironing clothes. “Good evening honey.” Y/N said as Bucky closed the door behind him. Y/N stopped ironing as Bucky approached her, pulling her in for a tight hug. He felt a release from the both of them. It was almost as if something they both held back disappeared. As they detached from the hug, Bucky gave Y/N a kiss on the lips. “I miss you.” Was all he said before entering the kitchen.
Bucky made it through dinner, sleep, and the ceremony again. It was odd how nothing was different. They survived the car ride home, where Bucky put his uniform back on the shelf and changed into normal clothes. Y/N and Bucky sat on the couch, drinking beers and watching old television. “My hero.” Y/N said, resting her head on Bucky’s shoulder. She would never say that. That’s when the realization hit him. This is a dream. Bucky massaged the tension out of his nose and took a deep breath. “Everything ok?” Y/N asked, turning towards him. “You know, you can talk to me about the war. I know being a hero has its sacrifices-“
“This isn’t real! I was never a hero, stop calling me one. I’ve done horrible things, killed so many people. I never had a normal life and I’ve lived longer than I should’ve.” Y/N looked at Bucky’s face with disbelief. Not only did she not expect such an outburst, she thought everything he was saying was a lie. However, the look on his face convinced her otherwise. “And you’re not real. You’re dead Y/N! You died three months ago, in the twenty first century. You weren’t the type to cook and clean and socialize. You were a fighter, a superhero. You were never this happy when you were alive. But that was our thing, we were unhappy together. This whole week has been too good to be true. Even if you and I retired from the superhero stuff, we never would have lived a life as stable as this.” A tear rolled down Y/N’s cheek as she struggled to process this new information. “You’re just a figment of my imagination. I can’t get over you, Y/N. You were the love of my life. And now you’re gone. I don’t know what to do without you. So I guess I’m trying make up for lost time.” Bucky buried his face in his hands and cried. “I just want to wake up.” Bucky repeated as he hyperventilated. Y/N reached over and rested a hand on Bucky’s shoulder. “Bucky. Let me go. Let me go and you can wake up.” Y/N sat next to Bucky for ten minutes while he calmed down. Bucky looked up and glanced over at Y/N, soaking in every last piece of her fictional appearance. “I love you, forever.” Y/N looked at him, a bittersweet expression on her face. “And I love you, always.” Bucky leaned in for one last kiss, but missed the chance to find Y/N’s lips.
Bucky woke up in a sweat, in his bed, in his apartment. The digital clock glowed, the red numbers reading 4:36 AM. It was just a dream. A very long dream.

Bucky habitually opened the door in front of him, walking inside the unfamiliarly familiar home. “Good evening honey.” Bucky was greeted by a cheery Y/N, who was ironing his clothes. She was wearing powdery makeup, her hair was done with curlers, and she wore a vintage outfit. She also had a warm smile on her face, something Bucky doesn’t see often. Classic 40s music played in the background, triggering a feeling of nostalgia for Bucky. He gazed down to look at his clothing. He wore a respectable suit, and the hair under his hat was neatly combed. He looked at his hands, both of them compromised of human flesh.
Y/N approached Bucky, placing her hands on his shoulders, stepping on her tip toes to give him a kiss. As nice as the kiss was, Bucky looked down skeptically. Every part of him wanted to absorb her appearance, to spend time with her, but part of him felt as if he was in a trap. “Why the hard stare, James? Rough day? Were you thinking about the war again?” Y/N turned around, leaving Bucky with a confused look on his face. She always calls me Bucky. Bucky stood on high alert as he looked around the house. “Well, we’re having a nice dinner...” Y/N trailed off as she walked into the kitchen. Bucky followed slowly behind her. “Don’t worry, I won’t make you cook tonight.” She pulled a beer out of the fridge, cracking it open. “Go watch some television.” She pat his shoulder as she handed him the beer. “Go relax. I mean it.” Y/N gave Bucky a look he knew all too well. It was the look of: I’m gonna take care of you so you better listen to what I say.
Bucky followed Y/N’s orders, looking at all of the knickknacks as he made his way through the living room. He stopped when he saw a shelf with his military memorabilia on it. Except the fact that the only thing he has from the war are his dog tags. Bucky approached the shelf, looking at photographs of him and Steve. Bucky wondered if Steve was here too. He also glanced over to see a few medals. Bucky felt a pair of arms wrap around his waist from behind. “You’re a hero, Bucky. Never forget that.” Bucky shook his head and turned around to face Y/N. He searched her face for anything suspicious. She was extra happy but that was it. Y/N undid Bucky’s tie, allowing him to breathe better. She cupped his face with her palm. “I know it must be hard to move on, after all you’ve been through. You know I’ll always be here for you, right?” Y/N leaned in and kissed Bucky, the taste of beer spilling onto her lips. Bucky stood, entranced by her essence. “Well we should eat and get some rest. Tomorrow’s a big day for you.” Bucky furrowed his eyebrows. “I know you said you didn’t want to go but Steve and I think it will be good for you.” Bucky followed Y/N and the two started setting the table together. “You know, to see your old buddies, get recognition for your sacrifices. Maybe it will help you move on, so you can let yourself be happy.”
Y/N dished out the food onto plates, but she kept talking while Bucky ate. “You know, now that the war is over, my friends are excited to go to the beach this summer.” Bucky nearly choked on a piece of broccoli. “Friends?” He tried not to sound too surprised. “Are you ok James? Did you hit your head this morning?” Y/N rose out of her seat and walked over to Bucky, placing the back of her hand on his forehead. “I’m fine, doll. I’m just a little, distracted.” Bucky smiled as he took another bite of food. Y/N sat back down, continuing her story. “My friends, Jane and Linda. They’re the baker’s daughters. You know the place with the bagels you like?” Bucky nodded as if he understood what she was talking about. “Anyways, they’re excited for summer. We’re gonna be risky and wear bikinis.” Bucky was excited at the thought of seeing Y/N in a bikini, something he hasn’t seen in-well, ever. “I’m happy for you. That should be fun.” Bucky tried to sound as natural as he could, provided the disorientation the home is giving him. “We should find you something to do for the summer. You know, the school needs a little league coach.” Bucky laughed and shook his head. “That’s cute, but not for me doll. Not right now.” Y/N took a bite of her food, looking down at her plate with disappointment. “Hey,” Bucky said softly, causing Y/N to lift her head. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll find something to do.” Y/N smiled. “I just want you to be happy. Whatever you want to do.”
The two finished dinner quietly, Bucky taking the dishes to the sink and washing them. Y/N cleaned up a few messes before leaving the room. Bucky was startled out of his trance when Y/N knocked on the wall. “I got you all set up for tomorrow. Your uniform, medals, hat. It’s all here.” Bucky looked over to see his memorabilia hanging up. Suddenly, his stomach twisted into a knot. He turned back around to scrub the plate. “It will be hanging up in our room, I don’t want the shower steam to ruin the fabric. So all you have to do tomorrow is get up and put this on, ok?” Y/N placed the items down on the kitchen table, unsure if Bucky was listening to her. Y/N once again wrapped her arms around Bucky’s waist from behind. As she rested her head on his shoulder, her breath brushed past his ear. That was when Bucky knew, this is too real to be a dream. Bucky felt a small spot on his shoulder become heavy, then a dampness touched his skin. Bucky put down the plate, swiveling around to hug Y/N with his wet hands. She was crying the same silent cry that Bucky was used to. “Doll, what’s wrong?” Y/N sniffled. “I-I-you-you-“ the more she tried to speak the harder it became to form actual words. “Shhh baby doll. It’s ok. We’re ok.” Bucky held the back of Y/N’s head as she cried into his shirt. Bucky was unfamiliar with this feeling, with Y/N being unstable, in need of comfort. Bucky can only remember a few times were she was truly like this. Regardless, he likes to comfort her. “Can you speak now?” Bucky asks gently, pulling away from the hug. Bucky tried to wipe Y/N’s tears and ended up smudging her makeup in the process. “It just hurts. Every time I look at you. I feel your pain. I know I didn’t go to the war and I could never know what that’s like. But I just want to do the best I can to help you get better.” Y/N wiped her eyes, which were beginning to look like a raccoon’s. Bucky looked deeply into Y/N’s eyes, and came to a realization. She was tired. Bucky felt a wave of guilt wash over him. He doesn’t know how he got here, or how long it’s been, but he knows Y/N has been overworked. “As long as I have you, I am better. I mean it. You don’t have to do anything extra.” Bucky grabbed her hand, giving it a warm squeeze. “Now I’ll just finish these dishes, and I will meet you in bed, ok?” Y/N nodded, giving Bucky a peck on the cheek. Bucky watched her grab the uniform and walk out of the room before returning to his scrubbing.
Bucky walked upstairs to find the bedroom, making a quick stop in the bathroom along his way. He splashed cold water on his face, hoping to wake himself up. He noticed picture frames in the hallway. It was him and Y/N, in a pumpkin patch, on the beach, and at the altar? Bucky looked at his left hand, finally seeing the ring on his finger. He entered the bedroom, and looked at Y/N, who was already asleep. He changed his clothes and got into bed, unsure if he should hold Y/N. Every part of him wanted to feel her embrace, her silk touch. He knew she needed comfort after the vulnerability she exposed to him less than an hour ago. Something was stopping him, however. The part of him that rejected his search for happiness. The part of him that knew he didn’t deserve it. Alas, Y/N turned around, cuddling up to Bucky’s side. “Goodnight James.” She said peacefully. Bucky’s jaw tightened, as he was uncomfortable being called that name from her. “Goodnight Y/N.”
Bucky got little sleep that night due to the fact that he was searching his brain to try understanding how he got here. It was a fruitless effort, as nothing became clear to him. He woke up to Y/N opening the curtains, the sunshine tickling his eyes open. “Good morning doll.” Bucky said natural and gentle. Y/N smiled. She was all dressed up, looking ever so perfect. “Good morning James. I’m going to make us breakfast, you shower and get dressed.” Y/N turned on her heel and left the room, Bucky watching her walk away. Bucky showered and got dressed. He found it strange how easily he put on the uniform. Something about putting it on felt like he’d already done it a hundred times. Bucky entered the kitchen to see Y/N piling pancakes onto plates. Although she didn’t look up, she felt his presence. “Just in time.” She put the plates on the table and looked up at Bucky, a glimmer formed in her eye. “You look great honey.” She walked up to Bucky and cupped his freshly shaven cheek. She took in the scent of his aftershave. “You’re gonna do great today.” Y/N looked down to the medals on his coat, slightly adjusting all of them until they were straight. Bucky remembered Y/N doing that often. Whether it was a zipper, buttons, pins, or tie, she always had a way to make it look perfect.
After a pleasant breakfast, the two drove to an auditorium, where a veteran’s ceremony was being held. As they approached the building, Y/N grabbed Bucky’s hand. “Are you nervous?” She asked, noticing the weary look on his face. “Just a bit, don’t worry about it doll.” Bucky looked down to his shoes when a voice called his name. “Bucky!” It was Steve Rogers.

After a steamy shower together, Y/N and Bucky went out for a small breakfast in the morning. Bucky kept making playful eye contact, wiggling his eyebrows every once in a while. Y/N blushed, remembering the heated events of the night before.
The two then returned to Bucky’s hotel room, where Sam was waiting, watching television. “Well look who it is! I was wondering where you were.” Sam said as Bucky entered the room. Sam’s eyes widened when he noticed Y/N behind him. “Oh, I see what’s going on. Hello Y/N.” Sam got up to give Y/N a hug. “You ok girl?” Sam asked. As he pulled away from the embrace he noticed the hickey on her neck. “Yeah, I’m good. How are you holding up?” Sam put his hands on his hips and sighed. “Well, we’re doing good, considering. You still got that necklace?” Y/N reached for it instinctively. “Yeah, I uh, Dr. Strange taught me how to use it. Nothing to worry about anymore. I’m here to stay.” Sam looked at Bucky as a final confirmation. “Well, welcome back to the team! We have your stuff. Bucky made sure to take care of it for you.” Sam walked over to Bucky’s bed and handed Y/N her bag. Y/N looked inside and saw her dress, remembering the night at the club. “We have a mission tonight. Y/N are you up for it?” Sam asked and Y/N nodded, pulling out her combat clothes. “I’m just gonna go change real quick.” Y/N left to the bathroom to get dressed, Bucky watching her as she walked past him. As this happened, Sam watched Bucky, a smirk on his face.
“What are you looking at me like that for?” Sam raised his eyebrows, speaking low. “You got yourself a little slice of Y/N last night didn’t you? That’s why you look so happy today.” Bucky smiled shaking his head as he sat down. “I can’t just be happy to see her?” Sam shook his head, laughing. “No, I know that look. It’s the- I haven’t had sex in decades but I just got laid last night -look.” Bucky bit his lip, staring off into the distance. An image of Y/N pleasuring him crossed his mind. “I’m happy for you both. You need each other. But I think it’s about time we start getting separate hotel rooms.” Bucky nodded in agreement. Y/N exited the bathroom, looking as good as ever in her outfit. “Ready to go guys?”
——————
The mission was intense, a mixture of super soldiers and civilians in the same area. Y/N did what she could to keep as many innocent people safe as possible. She would open the door to a restaurant, move multiple inside at once, and cast a temporary spell on the door so that no one could get out. This was oftentimes interrupted by the super soldiers, who Y/N would fling into walls. Y/N noticed Sam and Bucky struggling in a crowd, multiple people with guns. She closed her eyes and felt for the vibrations around her. When the guns fired, Y/N stopped all of the ones coming from the super soldiers, leaving them without any ammunition. Y/N opened her eyes again, looking at her surroundings. A little girl sat on the side of the road, grasping her stomach and taking slow breaths. Y/N ran over to her and noticed the bullet wound. Y/N reached out her hand to and heal the wound. It’s too fatal. I can’t save her. Y/N wasted her powers nonetheless, a green light covering the girl’s abdomen. Bucky was running to check up on Y/N when he saw the scene. “Where’s Mommy?” She kept asking. Y/N swallowed back her tears, knowing the young girl’s fate. “She’s on her way. She’ll be here soon. Just close your eyes.” Y/N sat as the young girl took her last breath. Y/N let the waterworks pour onto the sidewalk. Bucky struggled to watch her be in pain. A super soldier ran up behind Y/N, and before she even got close, Y/N flung the woman in the air, landing two blocks away.
Y/N wiped her tears and stood up, making eye contact with Bucky. Y/N ran over to him and wrapped him in a hug, crying into his arms. Bucky kissed the top of Y/N’s head as police arrived. Y/N unlocked the civilians, most of them unharmed. Then, she went over to the little girl and picked her up, holding her safely in her arms. A worried woman ran her way. “I’m so sorry. I did everything I could.” She cried as the woman took her child in grief. Sam returned, noticing the dead child. “Oh shit.” He said and Bucky clenched his jaw. “We have to make sure she doesn’t beat herself up over this.” Sam said, patting Bucky on the shoulder. Y/N makes her way over to the two men, her face solemn. She places her hands on each of their shoulders, healing all of the wounds in their bodies. She avoids further eye contact with them as she walks away.
Y/N is stopped by a blonde reporter and cameraman. “What’s your name?” Y/N furrowed her eyebrows, not in the right headspace for this. She was shocked by the microphone shoved in her face. “The people here would like to know who saved them.” Y/N shook her head. I didn’t save everyone. Sam interrupted, pulling Y/N’s arm lightly. “Sorry ma’am. She’s not ready to go public yet. Come on, let’s go.” Sam led her out of the street, away from the lights and people. Bucky followed behind them. “Look Y/N, I know we lost someone-“ Y/N interrupted him, tears filling her eyes. “I lost someone, a kid.” Y/N started walking away quickly. “Y/N hold up.” She didn’t listen to Bucky’s command. Bucky chased after her, doing a light run. “Damn you walk fast. Y/N wait.” Bucky was inches away from grabbing her arm. “Y/N stop!” He finally caught up to her, stepping in front of her to stop her in her tracks. Bucky cupped Y/N’s face with his hands. “It’s not your fault, Y/N. You did what you could.” He could tell Y/N wasn’t listening, as her eyes closed. “You know what would happen if I found the kid? I don’t have the healing powers to even try and save her. Y/N it’s not your fault.” He caressed her cheek with his thumb. “Y/N please look at me.” Bucky pleaded. Y/N opened her eyes. “It’s not your fault. Ok? It’s not your fault. Don’t blame yourself for this.” Bucky said, his voice cracking. Y/N let out a heavy breath, a tear rolling down her cheek. She nodded, grabbing ahold of Bucky’s arm. “Ok.” Her gaze shifted down, causing Bucky to lift her chin back up. “Promise me, you won’t blame yourself for this.” Y/N nodded. “I promise.” Bucky placed a kiss on her cheek. “Let’s go get some food, yeah?” Y/N nodded, holding hands with him as they walked.
The team ate a silent dinner, allowing Y/N to have a clear mind for the night. After that, they went right to sleep. Y/N cuddled up next to Bucky, fiddling with his dog tags as she replayed the events of the day in her head. Bucky stroked her hair, allowing her to calm down her racing thoughts.
——————
The next morning, Y/N quietly got up to shower while Sam was on his run. Bucky, accustomed to old habits, woke up and went to the bathroom, walking in on Y/N. His eyes went wide as the steam hit his face and he realized Y/N was in there. She had a towel loosely wrapped around her body, her wet hair dangling. Bucky swallowed thickly as Y/N looked over at him. “Sorry doll.” Bucky said awkwardly, beginning to close the door. Even though they already slept and showered together, the last thing he wanted to do was make Y/N feel uncomfortable. “Wait. Come here.” Y/N said, inviting Bucky back in. Y/N met Bucky half way, reaching up to kiss his lips. “How’d you sleep?” He refrained from putting his hands on her hips. If the towel got pulled any lower her breasts would be exposed. Bucky took a quick glance at her necklace. “I slept fine.” She smiled small. Bucky’s expression remained slightly tense. “Is something wrong?” Y/N asked searching for the answer on his face. Bucky rubbed his eye. If only Y/N knew how much seeing her sad broke his heart yesterday. “No, no. I just want to make sure you’re ok.” Y/N cupped his cheek. “As long as I have you, I’ll be ok. I love you.” Y/N gave him a peck on the cheek. “I love you too, Y/N.” The two were startled when Sam knocked on the door. “You two ready? It’s time to get to work.”
——————
The next few weeks went pretty smoothly. Y/N was able to recover from losing the little girl within a few days. Bucky and Y/N started sharing their own hotel room together, allowing for certain activities to be performed. Y/N started getting experimental, using her powers to make things more interesting in bed. The subsequent missions were all successful, and the team closed in on the super soldiers. Throughout this timeframe, Sam got to watch his two friends fall in love, something that reassured him in leaving Bucky to go back home.
After a night of celebration, Y/N woke up to the sound of Bucky breathing heavily. He’d been having nightmares lately, but this was the worst Y/N had seen yet. Bucky was startled awake, and Y/N wrapped one arm around him, the other stroking his hair. “Shhhh. It’s ok. You’re safe, Bucky. It was just a nightmare.” Bucky held Y/N close to him, feeling the security in her embrace as he caught his breath. “If you want to talk about it, I’m here.” She offered just like how she had every other time. However, Bucky never spoke about it until that day. “I keep having this dream about when I killed someone. I haven’t made amends with his family yet, so I think that’s why it still haunts me. It’s awful to keep living with the things I’ve done.” Y/N looked up to Bucky, wiping the tears off of his cheeks. “That wasn’t you, Buck. That was the Winter Soldier. You had no control over that. Like how I didn’t have control over the little girl. Do you blame yourself, Bucky?” Bucky looked down and Y/N grabbed his hand, squeezing it tightly. “Promise me, going forward, you won’t blame yourself for this.” Bucky looked into her eyes. I could never say no to her. “It’s not that easy, Y/N.” Y/N nodded. “Do you think Sam blames you? Do you think I blame you? I can assure you we don’t because we know you’re better. You’re free Bucky. You’re in control. Once you make amends with who they turned you into, you can finally be the Bucky you’ve always wanted to be. After everything you’ve been through, you deserve inner peace. And I’ll be here every step of the way, that is if you want me to.” Y/N kissed their hands and looked back up at Bucky. Bucky cupped Y/N’s face. “I want you to. I don’t think I could live without you.” A tear slipped down Y/N’s face. “Me neither.” Bucky leaned in and gave Y/N a passionate kiss.

Y/N approached the brick building with hesitance, the sound of a crowded city surrounding her. This better be the right place. Y/N knocked on the door. After a few minutes, the door opened to show two men wearing fantasy-like clothing. “I’m here to return something.” Y/N said, gesturing to her glowing red necklace. The two men let her inside. Y/N sat down for a cup of tea and gave one of the men her necklace. The man inspected it and then placed it on the table. “What’s your name?” Y/N placed down her cup. “Y/N.” The man nodded. “I’m Dr. Strange. This is Wong.” Y/N nodded even though the necklace already told her that.
“How did you get this necklace?” He asked. “Five years ago I was kidnapped and my kidnapper had it. I pulled it off if him a few weeks ago and he died immediately. Then today I was stuck in a room full of runes so I put the necklace on to use my powers. But I don’t like using it, so I asked the necklace where I could bring it safely, and it told me to bring it to you.” The man smiled. “Well the necklace isn’t wrong. Do you know how this thing works?” Y/N shrugged. “Most people who put it on have to join something called the collective and then if they take it off they die. But apparently I’m a chosen one so that doesn’t apply to me.” Dr. Strange and Wong exchanged a look. “Y/N, the safest place this necklace could be is with you. There are dark forces behind the powers in there and you’re the only one who can use them for good. If anyone else gets ahold of this necklace, especially our enemies it would be catastrophic.” Wong explained. Y/N sighed looking at the necklace. “We can teach you how to use it, though. Maybe you’ll find that you like it.” Wong added with a smile.
——————
Bucky slammed his fists on the table, anger and confusion running through him. “I should’ve taken that necklace from her. What if she turns evil now?” Bucky wiped a tear from his eye. “Calm down, Buck. I’m gonna have redwing track her.” Sam sat on the hotel bed and dialed a number. I hate redwing, Bucky thought to himself. The phone call went smoothly and Bucky fiddled with his hands while he waited. “We got it on the lookout. Now all we do is wait. I’m going to go grab us some beers. Don’t do anything stupid.” Sam left the room. Bucky walked over to his bed, where he saw that Y/N left her bag. Inside was a book and her clothes. Bucky sorted through the items and sighed. He just wanted Y/N back. He pulled a crumpled piece of paper out of his jacket pocket. Bucky furrowed his eyebrows as he reread the conversation he and Y/N had at the club.
——————
“Bucky wake up.” Sam lightly slapped the man’s face. Bucky groaned, fatigued from the previous mission. He had fell asleep the night before reading Y/N’s book. “They found Y/N in New York City. They saw her go to a sandwich shop and walk back to the building Dr. Strange lives at.” Bucky fluttered his eyes open, confused. “Dr. Strange?” He sat up. “Yeah that wizard guy who helped us fight Thanos. She’s with him.” Bucky rolled his eyes. “He’s not a wizard.” Sam ignored his comment. “We should head over there now. I already packed our bags.” Bucky hurried out of bed and rushed out of the door with Sam. The past few weeks have been difficult without Y/N. Missions are more taxing, he gets lonely at night, and he has nothing to distract him from his thoughts.
——————
Y/N took advantage of Dr. Strange’s hospitality, spending weeks reading countless books and refining her powers. Her time there was spent relatively uninterrupted. A knock sounded on Dr. Strange’s door. His cape flew and planted itself around his shoulders. He looked through the peephole before opening the door. “Hello uh- Dr. Strange. I’m Falcon and this is the Winter Soldier. You can call us Sam and Bucky. We’re here to see Y/N.” Dr. Strange had a skeptical look on his face. “I don’t know a Y/N. Sorry to waste your time.” Dr. Strange tried closing the door, but Bucky used his metal arm to keep it open. “Can you help us find her? We were told she was here.” Dr. Strange shook his head. “I’m sorry, that’s not what we do here with the mystic arts. I hope you find her.” Bucky looked disappointed, but walked off with Sam. “He must be lying, right?” Bucky asked. “Of course he is. If a stranger came to my door asking where you were I wouldn’t tell them.” The two men crossed the street. “So what do we do?” Sam sighed, knowing Bucky won’t like his reply. “We wait for her to come to us. At least we know she isn’t a bad guy, since she’s with Dr. Strange.”
Y/N was immersed in a book when a knock was placed on the door of her study room. “Y/N, two men came here looking for you today. They go by Bucky and Sam.” Dr. Strange said, watching for Y/N’s reaction. She cleared her throat. “Did you send them away?” She asks and Dr. Strange nodded. “Are they something to worry about?” He asked. Y/N shook her head. “No, they’re family. I’m just not ready to see them yet.” Dr. Strange took a seat across from Y/N. “I think you are ready. You’ve become very impressive with your powers. Now it’s time to take care of you. You’re always welcome back, I know we have more books you’d like to read.” Y/N smiled and stood up, giving Dr. Strange a hug. “Thank you. For everything. I’ll leave tomorrow morning.”
——————
Sam and Bucky traveled around New York on more missions, Y/N following them. They’ve changed so much since I last saw them. Bucky has a different look in his eyes. He’s more aggressive when he fights. Y/N longed to properly see them again. To hear Sam and Bucky’s witty banter. To eat greasy meals together. To sleep wrapped in Bucky’s arms. Amongst the fantasies, Y/N also had her doubts. What if they hate me for running off? What if they don’t trust my new powers? What if Bucky found someone else? These were the thoughts that kept her awake at night.
As usual, Y/N spent her days at coffee shops between missions. She remembered seeing Bucky once, and she hid behind a plant as he looked around the room. Bucky always did that at coffee shops, bookstores, and bars to see if Y/N was there. He did have luck one day, however, when Y/N was so lost in her reading that she didn’t even notice Bucky walk into the shop. Bucky stood, frozen in place when he saw her. A million thoughts and a million emotions swirled in his head. He gave her a longing look before quietly ordering a coffee. He slowly walked over to her table. Y/N finally looked up when Bucky took a seat. They both had the same expression on their face, relieved but also hurt. “Hey you.” Bucky said softly. “Hi.” Y/N closed her book. “Are you ok?” Bucky asked, touching her hand. “Yeah. How are you?” The small talk was painful. Y/N just wanted to skip over it and fast forward to when things get better. “I’m fine.” Y/N gave him a look of disbelief. “I’ll admit, I’ve been following you guys for a few weeks. You don’t seem fine to me, Bucky.” He clenched his jaw and swallowed, afraid that Y/N cracked him. Y/N cupped his cheek with her hand, feeling his familiar scruff. “And it’s my fault. I’m sorry.” A tear rolled down her cheek as she saw the pain on Bucky’s face. She removed her hand from his cheek to wipe her tears. “I was gonna come see you guys sooner. I just don’t know how to make things right. And if you don’t want me to stay, I’ll leave.” Y/N didn’t even move, but Bucky grabbed her arm as if she was trying to leave. He wanted to say, No, stay. I miss you doll. I can’t lose you again. But he thought that would be better left unspoken. All the tension was released from Bucky’s shoulders when he came to understand that Y/N was ok. Bucky looked into Y/N’s eyes as he pulled her into a passionate kiss, weeks of loneliness and stress melting away. Something they’ve both been craving for so long was satisfied in an instant. Bucky pulled away first.
“We would like an explanation though.” Y/N laughed, the kiss making her giddy. “When I put the necklace on, it had these loud whispers that I couldn’t turn off. I communicated with them, asking for a place I can safely return the necklace, and they led me to Dr. Strange. He taught me how to use this with good intentions. I even healed some of my past trauma. I can have conversations with people now.” Y/N played with the necklace as she spoke, Bucky watching her intently. “I’m sorry, I should’ve called and told you guys I was ok. But I’m here to stay, if you guys will have me.” Bucky nodded, any anger he felt towards her diminished. “We’d love to have you.” They both smiled.
Y/N and Bucky went for a walk around town, sipping their coffees, holding hands, and catching up. As the sun started to set, they realized how much time had passed. “It’s getting late. Where are you staying?” Bucky asked. “At a hotel a few blocks from here.” Bucky nodded. “I’ll walk you back, then.” Y/N took up Bucky on his offer as they walked back to her hotel. The closer they got, the quieter they became. The two stood in front of the hotel entrance. “Thank you for being so cool about this.” Y/N said, turning to Bucky. “I’m just glad to have you back.” Bucky pulled Y/N in for a sweet kiss, unleashing a new craving from her. She pulled the collar of his shirt, unleashing a new craving from him. “You can stay with me tonight if you want.” Y/N made her infamous goo goo eyes. Bucky bit his lip at the temptation. “Sure. Why not?”
Bucky followed Y/N up to her hotel room and their lips instantly reattached when they closed the door. Bucky pulled Y/N’s waist close to him and she ran her hands through his hair. Y/N slipped her tongue into Bucky’s mouth, causing him to smile into the next kiss. Bucky started walking backwards, crashing Y/N against the wall. He lifted her leg to press himself against her as he left a hickey on her neck. This, combined with the fact that Bucky was turning hard, melted Y/N into a puddle of moans. Their breathing became incredibly fast. “Doll, how about we finish what we started?” Bucky whispered his hot breath into hear ear. Y/N nodded. “Let’s do it.” Y/N kissed Bucky as she pulled off his jacket. They got off of the wall to remove their clothes, the two of them standing in their underwear. Bucky became short of breath at the sight of Y/N half naked. Her breasts, her curves. She was perfect. Y/N thought the same thing about Bucky’s muscles and build. Bucky walked slowly towards Y/N, leaning over her. They were both filled with anticipation. Bucky cupped Y/N’s cheek with one hand, the other stroking her hair. “You’re so beautiful doll.” They started kissing again, slowly this time. Bucky bit Y/N’s lip as he unclipped her bra. He grabbed her breasts and kissed them, causing Y/N to moan. Y/N’s red necklace laid just above her breasts. The two started walking towards the bed, Bucky hovering over Y/N as they kissed. Bucky fiddled with the lace on her panties using his metal hand, giving Y/N shivers. He moved his hand to lay over her warmth, feeling her damp panties. Bucky started rubbing her slowly, giving her a tease. He eventually broke the kiss to pull off her underwear, exposing her lady parts. “Still want to do this?” Bucky asked. “Yes, please.” Y/N said without hesitation. Bucky licked his lips, ready to attach them to her slit. Y/N reached over to the back of Bucky’s head and helped him go down on her. As he ate her out she begged, “Bucky please don’t stop.” while between moans. Y/N then came into Bucky’s mouth, the intensity of her orgasm enchanting. Bucky made his way to Y/N’s lips, spreading her juices on her mouth. Y/N then reached for his underwear, tugging it below his hips. Bucky got off of Y/N for a second to take the underwear off of his legs. Y/N then used her powers to push him up against the headboard, a wild look in her eyes. Bucky’s member grew even harder, now standing straight in the air. Y/N took her turn to lick her lips before leaning over and taking his member into her mouth. Bucky banged his head against the headboard in response to his pleasure. Bucky was on the verge of coming when he stopped Y/N. “Y/N. Wait. I want to come inside you.” Bucky pulled Y/N back underneath him and placed his hands on her hips. “You ready?” He asked, holding his member in his hand. Y/N nodded, squeezing her breasts. Bucky inserted himself in Y/N, waiting a few seconds for her walls to adjust. Bucky started slowly thrusting his hips, the two of them becoming a mess of moans. As Y/N’s moans escalated, so did Bucky’s. “I’m gonna come.” She said, running short on breath. Y/N began digging her nails into his back. Bucky was ready, just holding back for her. “Come for me doll.” Bucky said as Y/N buckled her hips, the two of them orgasming together. After riding out the high, Bucky slowly pulled out and placed a long kiss on Y/N’s lips. Y/N reached down and smothered the sensitivity on her clit. Bucky laid over on Y/N’s side. Y/N turned her head towards him.“I love you Bucky.” She said. Bucky smiled widely. “I love you too, Y/N.” They enveloped in another series of kisses. “I’m gonna go clean up. I’ll be right back.” Y/N got out of bed and Bucky watched her naked body walk to the bathroom. When Y/N returned, the two cuddled up with each other until they fell asleep.

The team took advantage of the day off, and slept into the late morning. Y/N was the first to wake up, and she went out to get the guys breakfast. Y/N struggled with leaving Bucky alone in the bed. She just wanted to stay there with him forever. But at least now he’ll know how she felt the other day, waking up without him beside her. She came back to the room to find Sam and Bucky laying in their beds, watching television. “Food!” Sam said happily. Bucky smiled charmingly and gave Y/N a wave. He remembered how perfect last night was. The simple kiss on the cheek drove him wild.
“I didn’t know what you guys wanted…” Y/N trailed off while the two men came and rummaged through the food, taking what they liked. Y/N took the leftovers and ate it, quickly getting bored of the television. She grabbed her book and left the room. The door reopened behind her. “Y/N, where you off to?” Bucky asked. Y/N raised her book, signaling she would be reading. “Do you mind if I come with you? Maybe you can find me a book I’d enjoy.” Y/N accepted his invitation by motioning her head forward. Bucky followed Y/N like a puppy as they walked to the nearest book store. They were greeted by a cashier and Bucky gave them a small wave. Y/N walked to the classic novel section and chose the most boring book she could think of and handed it to Bucky. Bucky tried to be polite but as he flipped through the pages he realized the joke. “I get it because I’m technically a hundred years old. Funny stuff.” Y/N took the book hunt seriously now, heading for the fiction section. She grabbed a book that was about a war, betrayal, and friendship. Bucky seemed very interested when reading the back cover.
They purchased the book and found a park bench to sit at and read. Bucky was immediately sucked into his book, impressed by Y/N’s sense of judgement. He couldn’t help himself, however, from letting his eyes wander from the page to look at her. The way she focuses on her reading, he’s never seen anything like it before. She’s in her own little world. I want to be part of that. “Hey, Y/N.” Y/N broke from her trance and looked over at Bucky, who was so lost in her beauty that he forgot what he was going to say. “I um- I-“ Y/N smiled, realizing the situation. She closed her book and turned towards Bucky. She placed a hand on his shoulder, giving him butterflies, a feeling he thought he was too old to have. “Sometimes things are better left unspoken.” Y/N leaned in and kissed Bucky, their lips molding perfectly together. Bucky cupped Y/N’s face as he kissed her more passionately. The two rested their foreheads against each other and smiled like idiots. Y/N turned back to her book, wrapping her arm around Bucky’s and resting her head on his shoulder. Bucky smiled and returned to his reading.
——————
Y/N and Bucky walked home near sunset, holding hands the whole time. Sam questioned about where they were all day. Bucky simply said they went reading. Sam could tell by the look on Y/N’s face that unfortunately that was true. “Don’t you guys want to have fun?” Bucky chuckled. “Says the guy who stayed here and watched tv all day.” Sam laughed. “Touché. I guess I should do something today. I’ll go fetch us dinner.” Sam got up from his bed, grabbed his keys, gave Bucky a wink, and left.
Y/N stood awkwardly, not knowing what to do. However, she knew exactly what she wanted to do right now. I just want his lips on mine. Bucky thought the same thing. Unsure of who would crack first, Y/N sat down on the bed. Bucky looked at her sitting there, looking perfect. He couldn’t stop himself from biting his lip. Y/N took note of this and shifted uncomfortably in her seat. Bucky also sat on the bed and remembered Y/N’s advice from earlier. Sometimes things are better left unspoken. But Bucky doesn’t want to leave it unspoken how amazing Y/N looks. He turned to Y/N and leaned in for a kiss. Y/N hovered her lips over his, teasing him a little before meeting his parted lips. The kisses quickly escalated. Y/N’s hands found their way into Bucky’s hair and she lightly tugged him. Bucky’s hands rested on her hips, squeezing them every so often. Bucky slipped his tongue gently in Y/N’s mouth, earning a moan from her. The moan gave Bucky a rush, pulling Y/N closer to him. “You’re so beautiful, doll.” He said in a raspy voice. Y/N was now sitting on Bucky’s lap, where she could feel his member harden. Y/N broke the kiss to leave a trail of kisses along his neck, earning a grunt from him. “We should stop.” Y/N said in between breaths. Bucky’s lips found their way back to Y/N’s. “Yeah, we should.” But neither of them could detach from the other. Suddenly, the two hear keys jiggling in the door. Y/N squeals as she jumps off of Bucky. The two sit a few feet apart, obviously out of breath. Y/N makes a last minute run to the bathroom to fix her hair. Bucky grabs a pillow and places it casually over his crotch. He runs a hand through his hair as Sam enters the room with a bag of food. “Thanks for helping me in by the way. The stupid lock is broken.” Bucky smiled softly, the only thoughts running through his mind were of Y/N. He didn’t know if he could keep it together when he sees her again.
Y/N comes out of the bathroom, looking normal and relaxed. She comes over quietly and grabs some food, avoiding eye contact with Bucky. Bucky watches her every move, finding perfection in all of it. Sam sat, clueless of how to understand this interaction. Y/N sits next to Bucky, resting her head on his shoulder as she ate. “Oh so you two are a thing now?” Sam asked. “Now you see that makes more sense why you’re being so weird today. I’m happy for you guys.” Bucky smiled and placed a kiss on top of Y/N’s head.
Before sleep that night, Bucky whispered in Y/N’s ear, “We’ll have to finish what we started sometime.” Bucky nibbled Y/N’s ear and placed a kiss on her neck before falling asleep.
——————
At the next mission, the team had to go indoors and split up to find the super soldiers. Y/N made it to them first, but she quickly felt her powers wipe away from her body. She entered a room with runes on the walls. Y/N looked around to see who might’ve done it, but she couldn’t imagine any of the super soldiers being capable of this. Y/N pulled her torturer’s necklace out of her pocket, securing it safely around her neck, the red light beginning to glow. While Y/N’s physical body remained standing where it was, her spirit temporarily transported to a different realm. “Are you joining the collective?” A voice whispered to her in the dark. “No. I just need to get out of here, away from the runes.” Y/N tried bargaining with the spirit. “Tsk tsk tsk. We only let you use the power if you join us. That is the price you pay.” Y/N looked around her, seeing only an abyss. She tried feeling her powers, they had returned. “And what if I don’t listen to you?” She said with a new confidence. “Then you’ll have even more people after you. Brutal people who want justice for the powers of the collective.” Y/N used her senses to feel around. There was something that she could grab onto with her telekinesis. She pulled the object closer to see a frail old woman in a robe. The woman had a look of shock on her face. “You’re not like the others. You looked behind the curtain. You must be one of the chosen ones. We permit you our power, you don’t have to join us.” The old woman bowed to Y/N, her weak legs kneeling on the ground. Y/N was incredibly confused but delighted to get this haggling over with.
Y/N was brought back to reality, where only a few milliseconds had passed. With her newfound powers from the necklace, she destroyed the runes by crumbling the walls around her. The super soldiers stood in shock. “That wasn’t supposed to happen.” One said to the other. “What will we tell him when he gets here?” Y/N started attacking the super soldiers that came after her. Sam and Bucky followed the noise and joined the fight. Bucky noticed that Y/N was wearing the necklace and her powers were different. He stayed close by her as he fought.
Y/N left in the middle of the fight, running out of the room. “What the hell?” Bucky yelled. Y/N climbed to the rooftop, where she felt a formidable presence. “Well, well, well. Look who it is.” A man Y/N remembers from her captivity unleashed sparkles from his hands, casting runes on the ground. Y/N destroyed them at the blink of an eye, and that is when the man recognized her necklace. “You’re with the collective?” Y/N shook her head and the man looked worried. “Call for backup.” He spoke to his servant. Y/N and the man began fighting, and she had him pinned down before the super soldiers had arrived. The man tried reaching for the necklace, but Y/N twisted his arm tighter. “What are you waiting for? Kill me.” The man pleaded. Y/N grew frustrated. “Wait, you can’t kill me? What a twist!” He laughed hysterically. “Y/N!” Sam and Bucky yelled running towards the scene. “We need to take care of this guy.” Y/N said. The message didn’t get through to either of the men. “Little miss powerful doesn’t have what it takes.” The man smirked. “You. With the blue eyes. Kill me. Do it. You’ve done it hundreds of times before.” Bucky looked at Y/N reluctantly, and she looked down. Bucky aimed his gun at the man and fired, knocking him dead. The super soldiers and servants scurried away like mice. “Y/N, who was that?” Sam asked gently. Y/N couldn’t hear anything over the whispers from the necklace. She still held on to the dead man’s arm tightly. “Y/N?” Sam and Bucky looked at each other in worry.
Bucky pulled Y/N’s arm off of the man. “Y/N?” Bucky cupped Y/N’s cheeks with his hands. The look in her eyes was desolate. “Y/N snap out of it. God damn it.” Bucky walked away in frustration and kicked his gun. “Y/N!” Sam yelled her name louder. Y/N heard his voice faintly. She started to control the voices much like lowering the volume on a remote. “I have to go.” Was all she said before she jumped from one rooftop to another. Bucky started to chase after her, but Sam blocked him. “Don’t do it Buck. You won’t make it.” Bucky ignored him. “Bull shit. I did that all the time when I was the Winter Soldier.” Sam fought harder to keep him back. “You’re not the Winter Soldier anymore. I couldn’t even chase her right now if I flew after her. I’m sorry Bucky. We have to let her go.” Tears formed in Bucky’s eyes. Sam brought him into an embrace. “I don’t understand what happened to her.” Sam held back tears. “Don’t worry. We’ll find out. I’ll be sure of it.”

Y/N looked in the hotel room mirror, flattening the wrinkles on her new dress. She put on some light makeup and volumized her hair. She left the bathroom and saw Sam and Bucky all ready to go. The two were taken aback from Y/N’s appearance. “Wow Y/N you look great.” Sam said and Y/N blushed, looking down. Bucky was thinking the same thing, amongst other thoughts. Sam was dressed in a suit and Bucky was wearing more casual clothes, all black as usual. Nevertheless, they both looked good and the three of them rode in style on their way to a club.
“Clubs aren’t really my thing.” Bucky said near the entrance. “You’ll have fun. Come on, let’s get a drink in you.” Sam pat his shoulder before entering the building. The lights were bright and flashy, people were everywhere, and the place reeked of booze. Amongst all of the distractions, Y/N fell behind Sam and Bucky’s trail. When Bucky looked behind him, he saw Y/N about 15 feet away. “Y/N, over here.” Bucky called out. Y/N looked over and met his gaze. She caught up to them and followed them to the bar. Sam ordered them a round of beers and they made a quick toast. “To the team.” Sam said cheerfully before swallowing a gulp of his drink. “Now I’m going to find some ladies who want a little piece of Falcon. Text me when you guys want to leave.” Sam disappeared into the crowd, leaving Bucky and Y/N to stand there awkwardly. The music was so loud, even if Y/N wanted to talk there’s no way Bucky could hear her. Y/N spontaneously left and walked towards a table, Bucky following suit. Y/N slid into the booth, pulling her new book out of her purse. “Bold move.” Bucky said, laughing. The two sat at the table and had a few more drinks. Y/N’s reading was interrupted when Bucky slid over a piece of paper and a pen. “Hi.” was written on it. Y/N chuckled to herself. What a dork. “Hello.” She slid the paper back to Bucky. “How’s the book so far?” Y/N struggled not to write down too much on the page. “To say the least, I am enjoying it. Thanks again.” Bucky and Y/N exchanged a smile.
“You look great tonight.” Y/N felt butterflies roaring through her stomach, her cheeks getting warm. “Thanks, I’d say the same about you.” Y/N’s hand accidentally touched Bucky’s as she passed over the paper. She was reminded again of how much she craves his touch since the night before. “Can you tell me about your life? Before we met?” Bucky knew this was a risk to ask, but since he saw Clint earlier he wanted to know more. Y/N fiddled with the pen in her hand. Her drunkenness made it increasingly harder to read the words on the page. Y/N cleared her throat.
“I got my powers when I was a toddler. I don’t know where they came from. My parents tried to keep it a secret, since people with bad intentions wanted to use me. She always told me, don’t talk to people you don’t trust.” Bucky realized that this meant Y/N trusts him. He felt his breath hitch in his throat. “So I spent most of my childhood running from bad guys. And just when things started to calm down the blip happened. Shortly after, I was kidnapped for five years until Clint saved me. I was tortured, I had people in my mind…” Y/N trailed off as a tear ran down her cheek. Bucky was surprised that Y/N spoke, and so much at that. But he listened intently to every word she said, soaking it in. Bucky didn’t know how to respond, so Y/N switched topics. “How about you?” Bucky sighed. “Well I had a normal life in the 30s until I joined the war, where I was taken prisoner and lost control over my mind. That’s when I did the bad stuff I told you about.” Y/N looked over at Bucky, his face solemn. “How did you get out, from the mind control?” Bucky took a swig of his drink. “My friend Steve, he got me out. I went to this place, Wakanda, where they helped me for a bit. But then Thanos came.” Y/N smiled small. “Looks like we’ve been through some shit.” She says and they both laugh, clinking their glasses together. “Thank you for trusting me.” Bucky said, causing Y/N to look up. “Because of my past, some people think I’m still that person. That I can’t find a way to move on from what I’ve done.” Y/N placed her hand on Bucky’s arm, looking sincerely into his eyes. “I can tell you have good intentions, Bucky.”
The two were interrupted by Sam approaching the table, a gorgeous woman wrapped around his arm. “I’m gonna head out with Angela here. Is it ok if you guys take a cab back to the hotel?” Bucky smiled with enjoyment and nodded. “Yeah, go have fun.” Sam left as prompted, giving Bucky an obvious wink on his way out. “Did you want to stay?” Bucky asked. Y/N shook her head. “Good, me too.” Y/N slid out of the booth while Bucky folded the paper they were talking on into his pocket. The two walked outside. Bucky called in a cab and Y/N leaned against a brick wall, noticing the detail in her fingernails. “It’ll be about ten minutes. Want to get something to eat? There’s a burger joint right across the street.” Y/N shrugged, feeling slightly nauseous. She should’ve ate the crackers or nuts they offered before drinking. “I’ll take that as a yes.” Bucky and Y/N start walking towards the restaurant, where they order burgers and fries to go. They eat in the cab ride back to the hotel. “Mmm so good.” Bucky said in between bites. Y/N found it amusing how fast Bucky ate the burger. Bucky must’ve caught her watching because he asked, “What?” with a mouthful of food. Y/N just smiled and shook her head.
When they arrived back at the hotel, Y/N and Bucky took turns using the bathroom. Y/N read while she waited. Bucky left the bathroom and glanced over at Y/N. She’s so beautiful just sitting there. Her dress fitting her in all the right places. Y/N got up and grabbed her change of clothes. She looked at Bucky, who was already watching her. He was in an undershirt and sweatpants. Y/N nearly drooled as she walked past him. It was then that Bucky understood the goo goo eyes Sam was talking about.
When Y/N was changing in the bathroom she tried convincing herself that her sudden feelings to get Bucky in bed were just a product of the alcohol, even though she knew that was far from true in her sober mind. She brushed her teeth and wiped off her makeup. She left the bathroom and saw that Bucky turned the lights off and was already in bed. Unsure of what to do, Y/N walked towards Sam’s bed. “You can sleep with me, if you want.” Bucky offered. You said exactly what I wanted you to. Y/N climbed into Bucky’s bed, his arm immediately wrapping around her torso. Bucky let out a sigh, his breath tickling her neck. “Bucky?” Y/N said his name for the first time. “Yeah?” He answered immediately. “Thanks for taking care of me.” Bucky looked up to Y/N, seeing the outline of her face due to the streetlight coming in the window. Bucky tucked a strand of hair behind Y/N’s ear, resting his hand to cup her cheek. His thumb moved back and forth over her smooth skin. “I’ll do anything you need, Y/N.” Y/N felt comforted by his touch. She decided to take a risk. “Can you kiss me?” She asked. Bucky leaned in closer to her, his breath now soothing over her lips. Y/N bubbled with anticipation. “I can do that.” He said with a smile as he pressed his lips onto Y/N’s for a deep kiss. He tried pulling away when Y/N put a hand on the back of his neck, keeping him close for a few more kisses. The strong mint flavor of Y/N’s toothpaste shortly disappeared. When they finally pulled away, Y/N let out a small giggle. “Goodnight Bucky.” Bucky tried to hear anything other than his racing heart. “Goodnight Y/N.”
——————
The next morning, Y/N got up early and showered the club off of her. While she was mid-shampoo the realization hit her, she kissed Bucky last night and she talked to him! What if he doesn’t remember? What if the kiss was just a drunk decision? What if he doesn’t actually like me like that? Anxious thoughts flooded Y/N’s mind.
“Where’s Y/N?” Sam asked putting his keys down on the table. “In the shower.” Bucky replied, wiping the sleep from his eyes. “You have fun last night?” Bucky asked with a smirk. “Hell yeah.” Sam replied. “Anything happen last night with you two? I set you guys up well didn’t I?” Sam wiggled his eyebrows and Bucky shook his head, slightly disappointed. Bucky felt his lips buzz at the memory of their kiss. He wanted to feel her touch again, her sweet lips on his. He decided not to tell Sam about the kiss, just in case Y/N forgot. “Come on man, that was the perfect opportunity.” Bucky shrugged. “We were both drunk, it didn’t seem right.” Sam rolled his eyes. “Better not wait too long. She could move on from us after these missions.”
——————
The team went on another mission today, however, it wasn’t successful. It’s probably because they were all hungover. They ended up chasing the super soldiers for miles until they couldn’t keep up any longer. “You guys want me to keep going?” Sam asked from above. “No we should stay together.” Bucky said. Y/N watched Bucky as he tried to catch his breath, the running took a toll on him. The two have had yet to talk today, and the amount of awkward glances they shared were insurmountable. “Sorry we’ll have to walk back. There’s no cabs out here.” Sam said, walking in the opposite direction. “You’re joking.” Bucky said in disbelief, preparing his legs for more torture. Y/N didn’t want to gloat but she felt perfectly fine.
The group walked and talked about the super soldiers’ motive until the sun went down. Then, they heard a rustling in the trees. “Oh hell no.” Sam said, stopping in his tracks. A stick flew out of the forest and onto the road, landing perfectly in front of Sam’s feet. Sam turned on his flashlight and approached the source of noise. Bucky cocked his gun, a steel look on his face. A pebble is then thrown into the road. Suddenly, something furry flies towards Sam’s face. Sam was startled and wrestled with the object just to find out it was a pile of ferns. Y/N let out a small giggle. “Ha ha. Ok you got me. Good one Y/N.” Bucky relaxed and looked over at Y/N, who stood looking proud of herself. “Let’s keep moving.” Sam said in all seriousness. Bucky gave Y/N a fist bump, rewarding her for her prank.
Along the route, Y/N used her telekinesis to pick up flowers on the side of the road. After a while, she had a cute little bouquet in her hands. Bucky slowed down his walking to distance himself from Sam. Y/N found this odd, but naturally she followed him. “Are we gonna talk about last night?” Bucky asked in a low voice. Y/N shrugged. “Do you remember everything?” She asked. Bucky nodded. “Yeah, do you?” Y/N also nodded. “It was nice. We should do that more often.” Y/N smiled. “And by that you mean…” Bucky wanted to clarify. “Hang out, get to know each other.” Y/N didn’t want to be the one to talk about the kiss out in the wide open. Y/N fiddled with the flowers in her hand. “Right yeah, I agree.” Bucky said awkwardly.
The team went out for a late dinner at a restaurant that was open 24/7. They ate lots of food to replenish the calories lost from the day. “We should take tomorrow to rest. I’m sure the super soldiers are doing the same.” Sam suggested. “Sounds good to me.” Bucky added. “I enjoyed watching you almost piss yourself today. Who would’ve known? The Falcon’s biggest fear is a pile of ferns.” Y/N snorted out a laugh, causing her to choke on her water. Sam grew tense, unhappy with Bucky’s smug look. “Just wait until it’s your turn. We’ll see who’s laughing then.” Sam pointed at Bucky. “You are going to prank him at some point, right Y/N?” She looked up from her plate, Bucky giving her a pleading look. “Of course.” She said, making Bucky nervous. Sam sat with content, finishing his food. “I look forward to that day.”
Upon arrival at the hotel, everyone showered and got ready for bed as usual. However, this time Y/N asked, “Does anyone have any injuries?” Sam shook his head and looked at Bucky. “I have some small bruises but it’s no big deal.” Y/N approached Bucky, examining him. “Let me fix it.” She said. Sam made his way to the bathroom. Bucky smiled. “It’s ok, Y/N. I’ll be fine.” Y/N pouted and looked at him. “Tell me where it hurts.” She insisted. Bucky pulled up his pant leg slightly to reveal bruises. Y/N knelt down on the floor and pressed her hand to his wounds, healing him completely. Bucky took in the sight of her below him. If only she was doing something else at that level. Y/N stood up. “Anything else?” She asked. “I have a small headache, I don’t know if you can help that.” Y/N put her hands on Bucky’s temples and closed her eyes. She felt Bucky relax to her touch. “I think it worked.” She said, opening her eyes. Bucky smiled. “It did. Thank you.” The two stood there, staring into one another’s eyes. Y/N felt her breathing become irregular as Bucky’s hand gently brushed her arm. Bucky licked his lips, while moving his eyes down to Y/N’s lips. Y/N felt intense temptation plague her mind. Nothing’s even happened yet but her head races with thoughts of what could be. The two were broken out of their trance when the bathroom door opened. “There you go. All healed.” Y/N said, stepping away.
Y/N slept in Bucky’s bed that night, and Bucky’s arm instinctively wrapped itself around her waist. “Goodnight Y/N.” Bucky whispered in her ear. Y/N turned her head, placing a kiss on Bucky’s cheek. “Goodnight Bucky.”

Y/N wakes up the next morning with an unsettling feeling in her stomach. She tried running to the bathroom to see if she’d get sick, but her stomach was empty. “You ok Y/N?” Bucky asked when she left the bathroom. “You look pale.” Bucky reached a hand out to touch Y/N’s forehead. Y/N’s stomach ache was temporarily replaced by butterflies. Please leave your hand there. His touch was calming. Bucky removed his hand. “Hmph. You seem fine. Are you still up for today? I can tell Sam if not.” Y/N gave Bucky a small thumbs up.
Today’s fight went similar to the others, that is until an unknown force threw a stop sign in Y/N’s direction. “Y/N was that you?” Sam asked and Y/N shook her head. “Hello old friend. Did you miss me? Thought I was dead huh?” Y/N’s torturer crept out of the shadows. Y/N felt anger boil inside her. Before the man could keep talking, Y/N threw the car back at him and lunged towards him. Sam and Bucky continued fighting the super soldiers, but Bucky kept a close eye on Y/N.
Y/N wrestled the man while he made comments about her torture in attempt to make her vulnerable. All this did was feed her rage. He almost snapped her out of it when he said, “Who’s Bucky?” She forgot this man could hear her thoughts. When Y/N finally tackled the man down, she lifted the swords out of the super soldiers’ hands and stuck them through the man’s shirt, pinning him to the ground. Not only did this leave the super soldiers defenseless, but she got the torturer right where she wanted him. Y/N yanked his necklace off of him, the glowing red light dimmed. The man quickly became short of breath. “I hope you’ll wear that someday.” He said before closing his eyes for eternal sleep.
——————
After the successful mission, the three celebrated with Chinese food. No one talked about the mission, however, and Y/N’s expression made it obvious she was going through something. Midway through eating (and by eating we should say picking at her food), Y/N stood up, grabbed her coat and left the hotel room. Bucky stood up to go follow her, but Sam stopped him. “Let her leave. She needs time alone. It’s cute that you care though. I’ve never seen you do that for anyone else.” Sam takes a large bite of lo mein noodles. Bucky tenses up as he remembered her nightmares. “I just understand what she’s going through. How angry she looked today. It’s hard not to…” Bucky trails off and goes back to his food. “You think you like her?” Sam asks further. Bucky chuckles. “I know as much about her as you do.”
Y/N walked to a bar, where she ordered a few beers with her book money. She stayed and drank until she got buzzed. She fiddled with her torturer’s necklace. She could feel the power radiating from it. Why did he die when I took it off? Eventually, a creepy man came and tried to talk with her, and that’s when she left. When she got back safely to the hotel room, Sam and Bucky were asleep. Y/N quietly snuck in, but ended up waking them both up. Y/N took off her shoes and went to Sam’s bed. Y/N went right to sleep with the help from the alcohol, however, she woke up from a horrible nightmare. She got up and went to the bathroom, cleaning the sweat off of her forehead. She exited the bathroom and heard Bucky’s snore. Half drunk, Y/N decided to slip into Bucky’s bed for the night. Y/N was about to fall asleep again when Bucky rolled over. He woke up when he realized Y/N was next to him. He smiled to himself and put his arm around Y/N’s torso. He smelt the alcohol from her breath, she forgot to brush her teeth. Y/N also smiled and felt relief wash over her body. She hasn’t been held like this probably since she was a baby. The two of them slept well that night.
——————
The next morning, Sam woke up and got ready for his early run. On his way out, he saw Bucky and Y/N cuddled up and smirked. Looks like someone’s gonna wash the laundry.
Y/N woke up next, but she didn’t want to wake Bucky so she went back to sleep. Half an hour later, Bucky woke up and looked over at Y/N, deep in a peaceful sleep. This was in great contrast to the night prior, where Bucky could clearly see the tension on her face. Bucky fiddled with a strand of her hair for a moment. So soft. Bucky then decided not to be a creep and slowly got out of bed. He went to the bathroom and the click of the door woke Y/N again. She felt the warmth of the bed next to her, where Bucky just was. She instantly craved to have him hold her again.
Sam came back from his run and Bucky left the bathroom at the same time. “Looks like it’s laundry day. Buck, you’re up.” Bucky looked confused for a moment, but then the realization hit him. “Oh yeah, right.” Sam pulled out a small bag of clothes and handed it to Bucky. “Be careful, this is polyester.” Sam smirked as he teased Bucky. Bucky gave a mocking face in return. “Y/N is that the only clothes you have?” Y/N nodded to Sam. “Ok, um- we’ll just have you wear a robe for now so Bucky can clean your clothes. After that we can take you out to get more outfits.” Sam problem solved and grabbed a robe from the bathroom, handing it to Y/N. Y/N quickly changed and gave her clothes to Bucky. She was slightly embarrassed that she only wore one set of clothes, but they didn’t seem to judge her.
When Bucky was washing the laundry, he was surprised to see Y/N’s underwear. He tried not to look at it, he tried not to picture her wearing it. He could not help himself. He bit his lip in frustration, hoping to find a distraction. After a while he tried rationalizing it. He slept next to that woman for two nights in a row after physically draining missions and she didn’t smell at all. I wonder if part of her superpowers is no B.O. Bucky joked to himself.
While Bucky was gone, Y/N and Sam watched the television. “I think Bucky likes you.” Sam blurted out, getting no response from Y/N. The two just watched Family Feud without any other interruptions.
Bucky returned in the afternoon with the clean laundry and a grocery bag. “What’dya get?” Sam asked. “Besides getting your polyester ruined, I got us some healthy snacks.” Bucky chuckled as Sam ran to the laundry bag. Bucky looked at Y/N and winked. Y/N felt shivers down her spine and tightened her robe. Bucky swallowed a lump in his throat that formed when he saw Y/N’s exposed thigh peeking out of the robe. Sam dug through the bag to find his clothes in perfect condition. He glared at Bucky. “Don’t mess with me like that.” Sam went to put his clothes back, and Bucky approached Y/N, his voice low. “I uh- I got you something.” He reached in the grocery bag to pull out a book. He handed it to Y/N and their fingertips brushed. “I didn’t know what you liked, but I grabbed something similar to what you were reading before.” Y/N smiled as she flipped through the pages of the book. What a nice gesture. Maybe Sam’s on to something. “Thank you.” Y/N said quietly. Bucky smiled widely, beginning to blush. He was happy to hear her voice. Sam mustn’t have heard because he interrupted the conversation loudly. “Y/N want to go shopping for some clothes now?” Y/N got up and put her shoes on.
——————
The three of them went to the mall, Sam giving Y/N a debit card and sending her on her way. Bucky expressed his discontent once she was out of earshot. “Let her have her girl time.” Sam said. “What if she needs to communicate with a store clerk or something, what if she needs us?” Sam gave Bucky a side eye. “You know she lived a life before she met you. Seems like she knows how to get around. Even in the worst case scenario we would be needing her help.” Sam copied Y/N’s hand motions she does when she uses her telekinesis. Bucky sighed, giving in. “What are we going to do while we wait?” Sam pointed to the game store in front of them. “I want to see if they have any old baseball cards. Maybe they’ll have something from your days.” Sam pat Bucky’s shoulder as they walked in the store.
Y/N sighed as she looked in the dressing room mirror. Sam told her to get three outfits: two for combat and one for special occasions. The combat outfits were easy, practical. A nice outfit though? She had no clue where to start. Y/N left the dressing room with a handful of dresses and not a single winner. “Do you want one of our associates to help you find something?” The dressing room attendant asked. Y/N wrote down a ‘yes please!’ on a piece of paper.
The associate was very kind, and helped her find the perfect dress. Nothing too fancy, but enough to make her feel good wearing it. “So mystery girl. Do you have a special guy you hope to see you in this dress?” Y/N blushed at the question. “I take that as a yes! Well, you look absolutely amazing in this, he’ll be an idiot if it doesn’t work out.” Y/N genuinely smiled as she looked in the mirror. Y/N bought the dress and was still $50 under Sam’s budget. Y/N continued strolling around the mall until she found Bucky and Sam, who were chatting with a familiar face.
“Ah Y/N there you are! This is Clint Barton, AKA Hawkeye.” Sam introduced them. Y/N saw the man standing with three kids and a woman. “I’m afraid we already know each other. Good to see you, Y/N.” Clint reached his hand out and Y/N shook it. “Wait- how do you guys know each other?” Bucky asked, looking a bit tense. “I saved her from captivity a few years ago. Quiet as a mouse. But you boys be careful around her, she’s pretty powerful.” One of the Clint’s boys laughed. “Silent but deadly.” Clint rolled his eyes. “Ignore my kids. Well, we better get going but again, good to see you.” Clint exchanged hugs with Bucky and Sam before heading off with his family.
“Did you find clothes ok?” Bucky asked and Y/N nodded swinging the bags around. Y/N handed Sam the debit card, quietly saying, “Thank you.” Sam’s eyes widened. “You spoke! God that’s so cool! You’re welcome, Y/N. Now come on, we’re going out for a celebration tonight.”

While Y/N was in the bathroom, Sam and Bucky had a conversation. Although they tried to keep their voices hush, Y/N could hear mumblings through the wall.
“How did you get her to stay?” Sam asked. “I don’t know, I was rambling for a while and she just wrote down on paper.” Bucky said. “Are you ok?” Sam asked. “Yeah, she just reminds me a bit of myself when I was recovering.” Sam nodded. “Maybe she’s been through some shit-“ Y/N opened the bathroom door and the conversation stopped. “So Bucky did you finally decide what to eat?” Sam recovered quickly so Y/N didn’t raise any suspicion. “Uh I guess I’ll get the parm.” Bucky said. “I’ll call it in. Be right back.” Sam left the room and called the food in from outside. Y/N sat down on a bed, pulled out her book and started reading. “Um- that’s Sam’s bed. I don’t know what we’ll do for the sleeping situation tonight.” Bucky said awkwardly. She gets up and sit in a chair instead, continuing her reading.
When Sam returns he finally breaks the ice. “The food should be here in half an hour. So do you want a bed to yourself or do you mind sleeping with one of us?” Y/N ponders for a moment. It would be nice to avoid any awkwardness and sleep alone. Plus it seems the two could use some bonding. Something about their friendship seems off. On the other hand, I feel like I can trust Sam. Y/N points to Sam’s bed. “I already told her it was your bed.” Bucky points out. “Are you ok with that?” Sam asks and she nods her head. Sam and Bucky exchange silent glances. Sam’s was a look of victory, he got her to nod. Bucky’s was a look of jealousy. Sam tried half as hard and got more communication from her.
Y/N read some more, but she finished her book. Since she only carries one with her at a time, she was at a loss. “Good book?” Sam asked. Y/N handed him the book and he flipped through the pages. Y/N looked over at Bucky, who was looking back at her. Unable to handle the queasy feeling, she immediately looked away. “Hmm seems interesting.” Sam handed the book back. Y/N grabbed the remote from the desk. How are these dudes just sitting here? Don’t they want something to pass the time? Y/N turned on the television and flipped through the channels. She decided on the sports channel, something she thought the guys would enjoy. They sat and watched the game until a knock sounded at the hotel room door.
Sam grabbed the food and paid the delivery guy, who spent his time looking at Y/N in the background. Bucky caught wind of this and tightened his jaw at the sight. Bucky felt a wave of overprotection wash over him. He didn’t know why, but Bucky didn’t want to think about Y/N being with someone. Bucky shot a death glare at the delivery guy, who started to look a little worried. When Sam finally shut the door, eating time began. The hotel room was silent as everyone enjoyed their meals. Y/N didn’t want to look too desperate, but this salad was the largest meal she’d had in days. Y/N is not good at prioritizing her money, she spends it all on books and coffee. Sam noticed that she finished her salad within minutes. “We could have gotten you something else if we knew you were that hungry. Want some money for the vending machine?” Sam offered as Y/N looked up at him. Without prompt, Sam grabs some money out of his bag. “Go crazy girl.” He hands her two dollars. Y/N leaves to find the vending machine.
“Dude, did you give the delivery guy one of your stone cold stares? He looked like he was about to piss himself.” Sam said, laughing. Bucky avoided eye contact as he took a bite of his food. “He was staring at her. The look in his eyes just gave me a bad feeling.” Bucky defended himself but Sam could see right through it. “You know she looks at you, right? When you’re not paying attention.” Sam added. Bucky shook his head. “I doubt it. If anything she likes you.” Sam put down his fork. “That’s where I disagree. She trusts me more, but she likes you.” Sam paused but saw no reaction from Bucky. “Fine, want to make a bet? If she likes you, you have to wash our laundry for the week.” Bucky shoved another bite of chicken parm in his mouth. “How would we know if she likes me?” Sam huffed a smile. “You mean besides the goo goo eyes she’s been giving you? I don’t know, maybe if she makes a move or something.” Bucky sighed. She doesn’t even talk to me, she barely gives me any sort of acknowledgment. I’ll win this bet, easy. “Fine, we have a deal.” The two men shook hands.
After walking around for a few minutes, Y/N found the vending machine in a hidden corner. Her eyes widened at the sight of a candy bar. Y/N ate the chocolate on a bench outside, not wanting to interrupt the guys. She comes back inside to see the two finished eating and getting ready to sleep. The room smelt strongly of Italian food.
“I’m going to shower real quick.” Bucky announced, not knowing Y/N was in the room. The tone of his voice is different. Y/N made a mental note. Y/N took off her shoes and approached Sam’s bed. “I’ll keep this between us but, can you tell me your name?” Sam asked. Y/N contemplated. Ah screw it. I’m feeling generous today. Y/N took the hotel notepad and wrote her name down. She folded up the paper and handed it to Sam. “Y/N. What a pretty name.” He said with a smile. “I promise I won’t tell Bucky.” Y/N got under the covers and turned off the lamp next to her. “Goodnight Y/N.” Sam said and got into bed.
The two slept with their backs towards each other, however, that gave Y/N a direct line of sight to Bucky’s bed. When Bucky got out of the shower, the bathroom light shined in her face. She saw his damp hair, he was only wearing boxers. Y/N got a quick peek at his abdomen. Bucky smirked at Y/N when he noticed her look. He slept facing Y/N, hoping to get a glimpse of what she looks like asleep in the morning.
——————
Bucky was the last to awaken in the morning, Sam getting up for an early run and Y/N taking a shower. Bucky finally got out of bed when he heard the bathroom door open. Y/N’s hair was wet and she smelt fresh. Bucky awkwardly got out of bed and walked to the bathroom. Y/N watched him from behind, subtly checking him out without him knowing. Just as Bucky finished getting dressed, Sam came back. “I’ll meet you guys for breakfast I’m just gonna shower real quick.” Sam said, short of breath.
After breakfast, the three went to scope out their next mission. They had intel about the position of the super soldiers and it appeared to be correct. “Let’s go in, while they least expect it.” Sam said. “Wait, what if there’s civilians in there?” Bucky asked. “Well I have yet to see a single one. Even if we just start from outside we can get them.” Bucky contemplated for a minute. “Ok, what do we do with her?” Bucky gave Y/N a side eye. “She helps us out, yeah?” Y/N nodded in Sam’s direction. “Sounds like a plan. Let’s get in there.”
There turned out to be more super soldiers than originally expected, causing the team some struggles. Y/N was a big help, moving large objects to thwart groups of them. However, there came a point where the three of them were encircled by the soldiers.
“Y/N look out!” Sam yelled and Y/N stopped a flying sword that was coming after her. Bucky stopped in his tracks. “Y/N, hm that’s her name.” He mumbled to himself. However, he didn’t have much more time to think about it because another super soldier came running at him. Y/N grabbed the sword and started fighting soldiers with combat as well. Y/N heard a gun click and turned her head to see it was pointing at Sam and Bucky. When the gun fired, Y/N made the bullets fall to the ground. The soldier wasted an entire round of bullets.
The soldiers ended up giving in, but running away as a group. Sam chased after them, but to no avail. Bucky looked to be in pain, as he was crouched on the ground, groaning. Y/N approached him and saw his hand covering his shoulder. It looks like he was stabbed. Y/N reaches her hand out and heals the wound, Bucky’s breathing slowed. Y/N also healed the cuts on his face and arm. Bucky watched in amazement as Y/N used her powers to heal him. He liked the feel of her gentle hands on his skin. He looked into her eyes, “Thank you, Y/N.” Y/N nodded and helped Bucky stand up. She liked the sound of her name coming from his mouth. Sam returned appearing unharmed. “Let’s get our stuff, they’re heading north.”
Another night another hotel with only two beds. This time felt different, though, now that Bucky’s wounds are healed, he doesn’t have to take this time to recover from them. He was excited to get a good sleep. “How about we take turns yeah? Y/N can swap between beds so that way it’s fair?” Y/N shrugged as if she didn’t care. However, she was excited to share a bed with Bucky.
That night Bucky and Y/N also slept with their backs facing each other. Bucky was awakened in the middle of the night by some murmurs from the other side of the bed. Bucky turned on the light and looked over to Y/N. She was having a nightmare and talking in her sleep. Bucky turned off the light and settled back into bed. Her voice sounded so vulnerable and desperate. It made him sad that he had to hear her voice for the first time like that, but there was nothing he could do about her nightmare. He wondered if Sam dealt with the same thing the night before. It was hard to fall back asleep because then Y/N started to quietly whimper. When the whimpers stopped Y/N woke up. She slipped out of bed and went into the bathroom, teary eyed. She washed up and brought herself back into reality. It was just a dream. I hope I didn’t wake anyone else up. Y/N would be embarrassed if they knew.
Y/N went back to bed, and Bucky whispered her name, “Y/N, is everything ok?” He obviously wouldn’t be able to tell in the dark so he turned on the lamp. He turned towards Y/N, who had wrapped the blanket around her, her eyes red. “You know I, I get nightmares too.” Bucky sat up, close to Y/N, his voice barely a whisper. Y/N’s heart started racing at the thought of him hearing her dreams. “For a while I wasn’t a good guy, I was under mind control and torture. I did things, horrible things you could never imagine.” Y/N watched him as he spoke, while Bucky stared into the distance. “I’m still not over it, but it does get better. I promise.” Bucky slowly moved his arm to rest on Y/N’s blanketed shoulder. “If you ever want to talk-or I guess write about it, I’m here.” Y/N liked the sound of his voice, soft and comforting. Bucky looked over to Y/N to see her looking right back at him. Y/N felt her embarrassment wash away. She gave Bucky a small smile, which he returned. I guess he’s different than I thought. Y/N laid down and faced opposite of Bucky, ready to go back to sleep. Bucky reached over and turned off the light. “Goodnight, Y/N.”

Y/N walks out of the metal doors, the sun closing her eyes to a squint. It’s been a while, she thought to herself. After being held captive by a terrorist group for almost five years, Y/N was rescued by Clint Barton. Since the blip, crime has been on the rise, which ultimately led to her kidnapping. The tricky thing about this group though, was that they knew magic, and held her in a room decorated with runes that rendered her powers useless. Clint destroyed the walls with an explosive arrow, freeing Y/N, allowing her to once again move objects around with her mind. However, one of the leaders got away and the thought of it nagged Y/N.
“What’chya gonna do now, kid?” Clint asked Y/N before departing. Y/N’s eyes adjusted to the light outside, something she hasn’t seen in years. She didn’t like how he called her a kid, she’s probably only five years younger than him. “Do you want a ride back to America? I’m taking a plane anyways.” Y/N picked up a handful of dirt from the ground, crushing it in her palm. It’s so smooth, kinda chalky and cool. “Kid, do you speak? I’m trying to help you out here.” Y/N let go of the dirt and patted her hands dry. Clint started walking away and like a lost puppy, Y/N followed.
Y/N boarded Clint’s plane and sat across from him. “You wanna tell me your story? Who you are, where your powers came from, how you got kidnapped?” Clint received no response, Y/N simply looked down at her lap. Damn I need a shower. “Well at least a thank you wouldn’t hurt.” Clint mumbled under his breath. Y/N looked up at Clint, his face scratched. She rose from her seat and pressed two fingers to his forehead. Clint grabbed her wrist. “Woah woah woah. You’re not using any magic on me.” Y/N moved her free hand to touch his forehead again, using her powers to heal his wounds. Thank you. Clint let go of Y/N’s wrist and stared at her in amazement. Y/N sat back down and looked out the window for the remainder of the flight.
——————
Y/N ended up back in New York, where she spent a few months by herself. She got a small part time job in an office, where they’re cool with her not talking. She spent her free time refining her powers, since she went so long without them she was a bit rusty. She remembers the fateful day where people started reappearing out of thin air. Looks like the blip is over.
Y/N was walking to work one day when a white van slowly followed her from behind. When she turned the corner, the car stopped and three men hopped out, chasing after her. Y/N flung two of the men back, falling on their asses and groaning on the concrete. Y/N started running down the street, causing a scene amongst the everyday people on their commutes. Y/N flung back the items that were thrown at her, the villain obviously capable of telekinesis.
When Y/N rounded the next corner, she met a cold dark alley. Shit. She turned around and moved a dumpster to block her like a shield. “You can’t hide from us forever, Y/N.” A soda can hit the dumpster with a clang. How does he know my name? “I can hear your thoughts. You don’t remember me?” Y/N peeked around the side of the dumpster to see who she was talking to, her torturer. Y/N felt a wave of nerves and trauma rush over her. A man with a gun stood in the background, but Y/N thought nothing of it so that he didn’t hear. “You know, we had some good times together.” The man chuckled as he threw a gardening tool through the dumpster. Y/N rolled her eyes as the tool almost pierced her face.
“We have a lot in common Y/N-“ the man was cut off by Y/N tossing the dumpster forward, knocking him to the ground. The man laughed and lunged the dumpster into the air, Y/N pushing it to the back of the alley. The man levitated Y/N towards him, his hand grasping her neck. “Look into my eyes. Look into them! You see-“ A gunshot fired from behind. The man tried moving it away, but Y/N moved it right back into the same direction. The bullet went straight through the man’s skull. His grip released on Y/N’s neck and she looked at the alley’s entrance. “Who are you?” The man who shot the gun asked. I could ask you the same. Ignoring his question, Y/N walked briskly out of the alley, hoping to avoid the police. “Hey wait up, you didn’t answer me. What was that back there?” The man followed Y/N from behind. She walked very fast so it was hard to keep up.
The man wouldn’t give up so when they passed a bookstore, Y/N flung open the door to hit the man in the face. He blocked the door with his arm, shattering the glass. Y/N turned around, puzzled. That wasn’t supposed to happen. He’s not a normal person. Y/N kept walking anyways, the man still following. Y/N detoured to a coffee shop. She decided she wasn’t going to show up for work today so she wouldn’t put her coworkers in the danger of any creeps. Y/N pointed to the menu for the barista to get her a coffee. She sat down and started reading from a book she had in her pocket. The man followed suit, taking a seat across from Y/N.
“I’m the Winter Soldier. You know the Avengers?” Y/N turned a page in her book. At this point, she’s just gonna wait him out, he’ll eventually get tired of hearing himself talk to a blank wall. The Winter Soldier paused and took a sip of his coffee. “I can’t tell, are you rude or shy?” Y/N smirked. “Rude it is. Listen, what you did back there, your powers. The Avengers need that.” He scribbles on a napkin. “Call us if you want to join. We have a mission on Friday we could use your help.” The Winter Soldier leaves and Y/N continues reading her book for a few hours, tossing the napkin in the trash on her way out.
——————
“Watch out on your right!” Falcon yelled to the Winter Soldier as he dodged a bullet. The pair was fighting a group of super soldiers in the street. To say the least, the two were struggling on their own and they had no backup. Y/N watched them from a under a lamppost a block away, her arms crossed. They call themselves Avengers? This should be easy for them. Y/N walked up the street and hid behind a small ledge. At the right moment, when the superheroes were prepared for defeat, Y/N moved a truck to crash into three of the soldiers. Everyone looked around, trying to find the source of the incident, but Y/N remained hidden. The Winter Soldier knew she must’ve been here though, which distracted him immensely. One of the super soldiers managed him into a chokehold. With their positioning, there was no way she could safely use her powers from a distance. She ran into the fight, pushing the super soldiers’ bullets back in the directions they came from. She flung the person off of the Winter Soldier and they hit a brick wall. “You came.” The Winter Soldier’s raspy voice spoke. He stared in wonder as Y/N kept moving objects around every which way to defeat the group of enemies. Falcon helped from above. Once things calmed down enough, Y/N reached out her hand to the Winter Soldier. He took her hand to help him stand up.
Y/N started walking away when the Winter Soldier grabbed her arm. “Not so fast.” Falcon landed. “So this is the badass chick you were telling me about. It’s nice to meet you. I’m Sam.” Y/N shook his outstretched hand and released herself from the Winter Soldier’s grasp. “And hey, I don’t blame you. I wouldn’t want to talk to this guy when I first see him either.” He smirked as the Winter Soldier yelled, “Hey!” from behind.
“Now what’s your name?” Sam asked. Y/N looked around, avoiding eye contact. “Okay that’s cool. Just let us know if you’re gonna join us more often. We could use your help.” Sam was about to walk away but Y/N stopped him by placing her hand on his arm. She walked closer to him and noticed a deep cut on his forehead. “Uhhh-“ Sam said awkwardly. Y/N placed two fingers on his forehead to heal the wound. Sam smiled. “Well thank you ma’am, now I don’t need to get stitches.” Y/N turned around to leave. “Hey, um, I’m hurt too!” The Winter Soldier called out and Y/N ignored him as she kept walking. “Ha! She doesn’t like you.” Sam laughed and the Winter Soldier rolled his eyes.
——————
Y/N kept a close eye on Falcon and the Winter Soldier, following them on a few missions, but they never needed her help. She took this traveling opportunity to sit in coffee shops and read books. All was fine until the Winter Soldier stumbled upon her one day.
“I thought I recognized you. What are you doing here?” Y/N didn’t look up from the page and the Winter Soldier sat next to her. “Are you following us? Anyways. I think we got off on the wrong foot. My real name is Bucky. It would be nice to know who you are.” Y/N continued reading. “I get it. You’re a tough egg to crack. Are you mute? I have a pen...” Bucky scrambled to pull a spare napkin from his pocket. He set the napkin and pen on the table. “You could write on this if you want.” All Bucky received was silence. “Look at me.” Y/N didn’t obey the command until the book was taken from her hands. “You know there’s another world going on around you, right?” Of course I know that dipshit. Y/N was slightly taken aback by the man’s sudden aggression. Bucky sighed as the two seconds of eye contact were insufficient.
“I’m sorry, I’m short tempered.” Y/N smiled to herself. She loves how people react to her not speaking. People feel like they have to overcompensate for the conversation and end up revealing things about themselves they might not otherwise. “If you’re following us you might as well stay with us. You’re not scared to fight and you have more power than Sam and I combined. And you won’t have to be alone. I know what that feels like.” Bucky looked down to his coffee, his finger tracing circles on the cup. He remembered the times when he did not have control over his mind and he did his horrible missions alone. Y/N took the pen and wrote down “fine.” Bucky smiled and handed Y/N her book back. “Finish your reading. I’ll take you back to our place when you’re done.” Bucky sat with a sense of accomplishment. He convinced her not only to write down on paper, but also to stay with him and Sam. At this rate, I could get her to talk in a year’s time, he joked to himself.
Y/N finished her reading early, figuring that she could continue when she goes back to the place Sam and Bucky are staying at. It was a dingy hotel, but still better than where she was staying at. The room only had two beds, something Bucky didn’t realize until they entered the room. “Hey! Welcome to the team!” Sam welcomed Y/N. Bucky excused himself to the restroom. Y/N nodded and looked around the room, ensuring there weren’t any traps. She admired the Falcon suit, which was propped up on display. “You like it? Tony Stark made it for me, when he was alive- rest in peace.” Sam looked up to the ceiling. Bucky exited the bathroom in a new change of clothes. Y/N glanced at his exposed metal arm. She swallowed a lump in her throat that formed when she realized how muscular he was up close. Sam made a mental note of this.
“Make yourself at home, Y/N. We’re ordering takeout if you want anything.” Sam handed her the menu to a pizzeria. Y/N’s eyes glossed over the menu and pointed to a salad. “Sure, one salad coming up. Buck what do you want?” Bucky shrugged and fumbled with some items in his backpack. “I’m not that hungry.” Sam shot him an admonishing look. “If you don’t eat now you’ll regret it in the morning. We’ve been through this before.”
Y/N stood up and entered the bathroom, not having the patience for the conversation. When she looked in the mirror she realized the sticky situation she was in. When she followed Sam and Bucky, she watched them fight. She understands their expert level of combat training. However, time and again Y/N would find herself drooling over Bucky, his defined muscles, his swift movements, his hair, his handsomeness. It was almost overwhelming. And now here she is, writing things down on paper for him, making eye subtle contact, and sharing a hotel room with him. What’s next, Y/N? Marriage? Control yourself.

I walked down the halls of the palace in a hurry, trying to get away from Y/N. She’s just one of my royal friends, no big deal. We grew up together, and I’ve played a lot of pranks on her. Her reactions were always so priceless. The way she would scrunch up her nose and chase after me while yelling my name. It was just like she did today, but for serious matters instead. As we grew older our professions separated us, but we still made time to catch up every once in a while. She’s been different lately. She has a different glimmer in her eye when she smiles at me. When I say certain phrases she blushes. She always greets me with chipper excitement. I saw her and her friends talking and giggling about something as I walked by. All I did was call her and ask if she wanted to meet and talk. I just don’t think about her that way, and I don’t want her to get the wrong idea. I think she’s a stunning woman with great talents but I know I’m not good for her.
Y/N is angry at me today because I have been ignoring her ever since I gave her that phone call. Sure, it was a dick move for me to call her asking to meet up and then never follow through with it. I just didn’t want to fuel her crush on me any further, so when she confronted me about it, I told her the truth. She didn’t like what I said, but it’s for the greater good. “Im not in love So don't forget it.” Sure that was harsh, but it ripped off the band aid. What makes me even more of a dick is that I knew when she started crushing on me, and started leading her on a bit. I mean, who doesn’t like it when they know someone has feelings for them? It’s a good boost to the self esteem. But what I did to Y/N, this wasn’t my normal mischief, this was just rude, and I beat myself up about it too.
“Why don’t you love her? She’s an amazing person?” I asked myself, looking in the mirror. I avoided eye contact with myself and massaged the bridge of my nose. I thought of many pathetic excuses, but shook the thoughts away. I couldn’t think of a single reason why I turned down Y/N. I got angry, threw a lamp at the wall, and yelled. I curled into a ball on the floor. I tried, and tried, but could not convince myself that I don’t love her. I ridiculed myself for getting so emotional over this. I ended up falling asleep there on the floor. When I awoke, I freshened up and tried to go along with my day as usual. Then I realized how I planned my routine around seeing Y/N. Morning coffee. Before meetings. In the halls. The library. I realized how much I went out of my way to see her. But today I did not bear the fruits of my schemes because Y/N looked absolutely miserable today. All throughout my day I had a reminder of what pain I’ve caused her. All I’ve wanted to do was reach out to her, apologize, and make things better. That doesn’t mean I want to be with her romantically, though. Or does it? I don’t know.
After a stressful day, I went back to my quarters of the castle. I sat down at my desk and read my book. After not being able to concentrate, I looked up to the wall and saw the picture frame I put up of the two of us. I originally put it there to hide a stain on the wall and forgot about it. Y/N asked for it once, knowing that it didn’t mean much to me, but I lied to her saying that I lost it. I glanced over the picture for a while. We were in a side hug and the picture was candidly taken as we both looked at each other. The glimmer in her eyes, a glimmer of admiration and joy. It also shown through my eyes. A tear slipped down my cheek. Damn. I fucked up big time.

This one is much longer than stuff I usually write.
Enjoy :)))

You sighed as you flipped through another stack of papers, your nondominant hand massaging your forehead. You’re a lawyer, and as much as you enjoy reading paperwork, it gets convoluted sometimes and stresses you out. You’re currently reading a contract, has something to do with a man by the name of Tom Hiddleston and a movie production. Before you could pour your coffee, your boss handed you a large stack of papers along with a package of highlighters and sticky notes (lord knows those will run out quick). It was interesting to learn how Disney forms its contracts, as well as all the legal loopholes that this contract allows them to make. It took you a week of constant reading to finally understand all of the jargon. Every time you saw something that might be of interest, you noted it, and made a list of concerns for the client, Mr. Hiddleston. Little did you know, you would be meeting with him today to voice those concerns to him. Your boss entered the room and you stood up from your chair. She escorted him in and introduced the two of you. You took in his wonderful presence. His full beard, long blonde hair, fresh blue eyes, glasses that make him look intellectual, a nice suit that fits his form perfectly. Ah gosh, his form, his lean and muscular fit. You stopped yourself from thinking any further. “Nice to meet you, Ms. Y/L/N.” You shook his firm hand. “Nice to meet you as well Mr. Hiddleston.” He smiled charmingly and you smiled back. Your boss left the room and closed your office door. “Take a seat. I’ve got lots to cover with you today, and I know your time must be precious.” You both sit down. You motion to the big stack of papers. Tom’s eyes go wide. “Now, I’ve marked down every little thing in these papers that might be a concern to you. But I’ve sorted all of them from high priority to low priority. I suggest that if something is a high priority, that you and your lawyer meet with Disney’s lawyers to negotiate that.” Tom nods and adjusts his glasses with his middle finger and thumb. Damn that was hot. You try to shake the thought away. He’s focused on the task at hand. Why can’t you be? You always keep steady professionalism amongst clients. You continue on for an hour, reading him the list of clauses and loopholes in the contract. And he continues on, doing normal things that appear attractive to you. He played with his beard as he listened to you read. It made you want to feel his beard scratch against your skin. He stared off into the distance as he proposed thoughtful answers to your questions. Every once and a while he would straighten out his suit and his posture. After one of your side comments to the contract Tom laughed “ehehehe.” You smiled because you like his laugh. Little to your knowledge, you were doing a few things Tom found attractive as well. Your pantsuit fitting your form perfectly. Your hands fidget with the highlighter and your fingers rubb the top corner of the paper. It made him wonder how your hands would caress his body. How you bit your index finger when you were perplexed with thought. It made him want you to bite his lip, and other places. The way you glanced up from your desk to make eye contact with him while reading. How you tucked your hair behind your ear. The way you slightly licked your lip before beginning to read a long passage. The way your eyes glistened when you heard his laugh. But, he acts for a living so he’s obviously better at hiding his attraction.
“I think we’ve reached a good stopping point for today, Mr. Hiddleston.” You said, feeling a longing inside. “I will fax these annotated papers to your lawyer. It might take an entire shift to do it though.” Tom laughs at your joke as you put the papers back in a neat stack. “It was a pleasure working with you Ms. Y/L/N.” Tom reaches his hand out towards you and you shake it. “And you Mr. Hiddleston.” You both smile at each other. You get out of your seats and walk towards the office door. You grabbed your coffee mug so you could go refill it in the break room. He walks in front of you, he puts his hand on the door handle, but hesitates before opening it. He turns around to look at you. “I have one last question Ms. Y/L/N.” You nod. “Okay. What is it?” You hold the mug handle with one hand and cup the bottom with another. “Why didn’t my lawyer just read the contract for me? Don’t get me wrong, darling you’re a fantastic lawyer, but why isn’t he doing his job?” You smiled at his compliment and how he called you darling. “He was busy, I suppose. My boss just tasked me with reading your contract with no explanation.” Tom nods. “Interesting. I’ll be back tomorrow if you want to go over some more of this.” He motions to the papers. “Yeah absolutely.” He smiles at you before opening the door to your office and walking out. You follow behind and part your ways. You watch him walk out the door to the firm, as well as the trail of eyes following Tom as he walked. He is quite the stunning man.
The next day, you met with a client quickly before Tom showed up. He knocked at your open door with the knuckle of his index finger. “Come in.” You said without looking up. “Good morning Ms. Y/L/N.” Tom said as he entered, closing the door behind him. “Ah, Mr. Hiddleston. Very nice to see you again.” His appearance was breath taking. He looked so sophisticated and handsome in his new suit. You stood up and shook his hand. “Now let’s get down to business, shall we?” After a while of talking lawyer stuff, you both got bored. “Want to take a coffee break?” You offer. “Ah yes that would be lovely, darling.” You both walk out of the office and into the break room. “You’re technically not allowed in here, but I’ll allow it.” Tom laughs. “Do you have the authority to allow it?” You chuckle. “No.” You both laugh. You brew some coffee and it takes a while, so you both chat while you wait. You ask him a few questions about what it’s like being a movie star, and he asks you about being a lawyer. You talk a little bit about your hobbies too, and that’s when the coffee finished brewing. You pour each other a steaming cup and walked back to your office. Tom enters forst, and you closed the door. “Ready to get back into it?” You ask. “Yeah, about that, what if we didn’t?” You look at him, confusion written on your face. “What do you mean, Mr. Hiddleston?” Tom looks around, but you weren’t sure why. “I mean I like talking with you, about stuff that makes my brain hurt less.” You laugh. “Me as well, but that’s not what I’m being paid for.” Tom smiles. “Touche.” You walk back to your desk and take a seat. Tom sits down also. “I guess no one will know if we chatted for a little while.” Tom smiled with delight. “But that means we actually have to get work done one of these days.” Tom agreed to your deal and you both got to chatting immediately. You realized you both had a lot in common, despite your different professions. You had the same sense of humor, hobbies, interests, and world views. It was refreshing to socialize outside of work. Tom complimented you a few times, and it made you blush. The way he talked, how he got so focused and his words were slow and thoughtful, yet he had a quick wit at the same time. You had the most fun time in a long time. You were glad you gave into his charm. It became time for your appointment to end and you walked with Tom towards your office door. “Unfortunately, our time is up, Mr. Hiddleston. It was a pleasure.” You reach out your hand to shake his. “Indeed it was. I won’t be back here until next week, but um- perhaps I could get your number so we can chat until then?” You smile. “I don’t know if it is professional to give my personal number to a client. But I guess I can make an exception.” You pull your phone out of the pocket of the pantsuit that fits you so well. Tom took this as a window of opportunity to give you a quick once over. You hand him your phone so he could put in his number. You step closer to him. “Don’t tell my boss.” You whispered. Tom looks up at you, smiles, and winks. You felt like your legs might melt into ooze. He handed you back your phone and his fingertips brushed slightly over yours. Tom takes a step closer, invading your personal space. You both smile at each other. “I’ll be expecting your text, Y/N.” He says your first name for the first time. “Goodbye.” You say as he opens the door. “Goodbye.” He replies.
A week was a long wait, but at least you got to text him a few times.
You: Hello this is Y/N.
Tom: Hello Y/N. This is Tom. How are you today?
You: Ah same old same old. How about you?
Tom: Same. And I can’t see you :(
You: I know. The office is soooo boring. Our chat is the most entertaining thing that happened this month.
Tom: Well, maybe next time I visit we can make things a little more interesting.
You: How do you propose we do that?
Tom: You’ll see ;)
Underneath the intellectual glasses is quite the cheeky flirt. You were left intruiged for the rest of the week as to what Tom had in mind. When the time for his appointment finally arrived, you tried to get right down to business. “Good morning Mr. Hiddleston.” You reach out to shake his hand. “Good morning Y/N. You know you can call me Tom, right?” He closes the door. “Sorry. Force of habit. Today’s our last meeting. Now we have to do some catching up because-“ Tom interrupts you. “We lost a week of getting to know each other, I agree.” You shake your head. “I meant because we didn’t do any work at our last meeting.” Tom rolled his eyes. He walked closer to your desk. “You faxed these papers to my lawyer, right?” He touches the stack of papers on your desk. You walk towards your desk. “Yeah, but-“ Tom remained hovering over your desk. “So he’ll figure it out. Relax, Y/N. We have some catching up to do.” He turns around at you, and notices something different about you. “What is it?” He asks, placing his hands on your shoulders. You felt tingles from his touch. “I’m just not in the mood for getting fired today, is all.” Tom laughed. “You won’t get fired. Because no one will know.” He takes his hands off your shoulders, walks to the office door and locks it. “I don’t know Tom. This contract is important for your career.” You lean against the desk, so you’re half sitting on it. “I told you. My lawyer will take care of it.” Tom sits on the chair in front of you. You sigh because of his irresistibility. “Fine. What would you like to do for the next hour?” You ask. Tom plays with his beard as he thinks. “We can chat.” He says simply with a smile. So the two of you chat about your likes and dislikes, pasts and futures, which made the hour go by quick. Your watch beeps. “Oop. Looks like our time is up, Mr. Hiddleston.” You return to your professional disposition. You both stand up and start walking towards the door. Tom stops in front of you, making you stop too. He turns around to face you and invades your personal space. “It’s a shame. I was having a good time.” You could see his blue eyes glimmer from up close. Your breaths got shallower as his presence hovered over yours. You swallow your nervousness. You pout. “Me too.” Tom nods. “Keep in touch, yeah?” You nod. “Will do.” Tom smiles and turns around and opens the door. “Goodbye.” He looks at you one last time. “Bye.” You say. You wished that you had more meetings with him so that this wouldn’t have to be the last one. The two of you stayed in touch over text for about a week, and then you both faded out of each other’s lives. You thought about him every once in a while, how pleasant his voice sounded, and how attractive he looked in your office. How quickly he had a hold over you. He convinced you to do things that no one else could. How he chipped a crack in your professional wall.
Today is a normal day at the office, about one month after Tom last visited. You have your usual coffee, a meeting with a client at 11:00, and your lunch at noon. You finished typing up the report when you recieved a knock at your door. “Ms. Y/L/N, your 11:00 is here.” Your assistant says. “Ah Mr. Greenwood how are you?” You shake the elderly man’s hand. “I’m well darling, thank you.” When he said darling it reminded you of Tom for a short second, but you quickly shook the thought away. About halfway through your meeting, you see a familiar figure through your office window. You felt bad because Mr. Greenwood was talking but you weren’t paying attention. He wouldn’t know the difference anyway, he tends to ramble. You were astonished. It was Tom freaking Hiddleston talking to the service desk. “Excuse me Mr. Greenwood. The business outside is distracting me, I’m just going to close the windows. You can continue talking.” You get up from your seat and he starts talking again. You approach the window and hold the string to close the window shades. Tom looked so good, it made your heart pang with hurt. You see Tom make eye contact with you, give you a reactionary smile, and you immediately close the shades. You finished your meeting, but Tom’s presence distracted you. When Mr. Greenwood left, you grabbed your lunch and started walking towards the door. Tom beat you to it, though. He entered and blocked the doorway. “Y/N!” You look at him confused. “Tom? What are you doing here?” Tom steps further into the room and quietly closes the door. “Are you not excited to see me?” He asks. “No, I am, I just thought-“ Tom interrupts you. “I should have kept contact with you. I’ve been thinking of you a lot this month.” He takes a stride forward. He grabs your hand. “Would you like to catch up?” You smile and scoff. “You seem to come at the most inconvenient times. Always invading my workplace.” You pull your hand away and look down. “Let me just punch out for my lunch so my boss doesn’t get mad. Stay here.” You put your lunch down on the desk and leave. You take a few minutes to breathe in the break room and come back to your office, closing the door behind you. You twisted the lock. Tom was standing there, waiting, his hands in his pockets. You took in his form, recognized how good he looked in suits. He turned around you face you and you walked towards him. “I’m sorry for not contacting you before I came here-“ You interrupt him by pulling his tie to close the gap between you and engaging in a passionate kiss. You wrap your arms around his neck and his hands fell on your waist. You pull away, out of breath and shocked about what you had just done. “Mr. Hiddleston. You have no clue how long I’ve wanted to do that.” You both smile and continue kissing. Tom adds some heat to the kiss by pulling your body closer to his and slipping his tongue in your mouth. You press his bicept to feel what you’ve been missing out on. You start walking forward, making Tom walk backwards until he is against the wall. Your lips momentarily depart. He runs a hand through your hair as you kiss down his neck. Tom lets out a shaky breath. “Ms. Y/L/N, getting very seductive, I see.” Tom says quietly and you smile against his skin. You press your hips even closer to him and he lets out a subtle moan. You reattach your lips to his and Tom squeezes your breast, which caused you to moan against his lips. Tom starts walking forward, pushing you back. You kept your lips connected as you moved across the room. Tom squeezed your butt along the way, making you giggle. You stopped when you were pressed against your desk. Luckily, it was pretty clean so you didn’t have to move stuff out of the way. Tom kept pushing you down and down until you lied on your back on the desk, your legs hanging off the edge. Tom hovered over you and kissed you from above, your tongues battling for dominance. His won, but you think it’s because he was above you.
Tom left kisses down your neck, and you told him not to leave a hickey, but you could feel that he definitely did. His crotch was pressed against yours, and you could feel yourself getting wet, and him getting hard. When your lips reconvened, you pushed yourself and Tom up from the desk. You were now sitting on the desk, kissing. Tom had his hands on your hips and you cupped his cheek with one hand, played with his hair with another hand. You gradually slowed down the kisses and pulled away. You both tried catching your breath, looked at each other, and laughed. You straightened his tie, and Tom grabbed your hand and left a kiss on it. You looked at your watch. “My break ends in five minutes.” You say, still out of breath. Tom smirks. “Well then, it’s five more minutes for us to kiss.” He says, kissing your lips. “Mmm. But I think we should use the five minutes to straighten ourselves out so no one knows what’s happened in here.” You say, placing your hands on his chest. “Fine.” He pecks your lips and backs away from the desk. You straighten out your pantsuit and fix your hair. You take your emergency foundation out of your desk to quickly cover up the hickey. Tom smiled with pride about that. “See? Aren’t you glad I suggested we freshen up?” Tom adjusts his coat. “Yeah good call.”
Tumblr media
You kissed Tom one more time, as slow as possible, before you left to punch back in. When you came back, Tom was nowhere to be seen. But a note was left on your desk saying: Meet me at my hotel tonight. I will text you the address. -T.H. You laughed out loud when you read the note, and continued on to your work. When your shift finally ended, you went home to eat dinner and freshen up. You showered, changed into some more seductive clothing, and bought a bottle of wine from the liquor store. You didn’t bother to cover up your hickey, in fact, you admired it in the mirror for about five minutes after your shower. You drove to Tom’s hotel and arrived at 8:30 pm. You knocked on the door to the room number he gave you. There was a momentary pause before the door opened. “Ms. Y/L/N. Very nice to see you.” Tom opens the door wider. He hasn’t changed from the outfit he was wearing earlier. “Mr. Hiddleston, it’s my pleasure.” You say, entering the tidy room. Tom closes the door behind you and you put the bottle of wine on the nearest counter. You turn around and see Tom standing over you. You tug on his tie and smirk. Tom smiles and leans down to kiss your lips. The two of you picked up from where you left off. You started loosening his tie while taking off your shoes. Tom starts pulling your shirt over your head. You quickly break the warm kiss to pull off your shirt. Tom took off his tie. As you kissed more, Tom squeezed your breasts, which were held by a fancy bra. You worked on unbuttoning his shirt. Tom plopped his shirt on the ground and you started playing with the buckle on his pants. You pull off the belt and pull away from the kiss. You crouch down to your knees to pull down his pants and underwear, exposing his hard member. You look up at Tom and start giving him a hand job. When Tom’s moans escalate and you see cum starting to spill, you start sucking on his member. Tom cums in your mouth, and his moans fill up the hotel room. You stop sucking and pull his member out of your mouth. You stand up and kiss Tom on the lips so he can taste his cum. Tom plays with the waist of your pants and you grab his hands to help him pull them down. You step out of your pants and Tom says “jump so I can pick you up.” You do as he says and Tom holds you up with his arms under your thighs. You now get to kiss him from above and challenge him with your tongue. Of course, you win. Tom walks over to the bed and places you down gently. He pulls down your panties and puts them aside. He looks around to the floor and picks up his tie. “Want to be tied up?” He asks. “Sure.” You say and put your hands together. Tom ties your hands and puts your panties in your mouth. “Our safeword can be...” he looks around. “Shoe.” He smiles. He kisses your lips over the panties and leaves a trail of kisses down to your pussy.
He starts to play with your pussy, and then starts eating you out. Your moans built as his tongue circled around your clit. He then put two fingers inside you and fingered you. You were just about to reach your climax, when he suddenly stopped. You tried talking through your panties. “I’m sorry darling, what was that?” He takes the panties out of your mouth. “Hey, I didn’t do that to you!” Tom kissed your lips and you tasted the flavor of your salty juices. “It’s because I have more for you.” He kissed you some more. He untied your hands. “Now, should we use protection?” He asks. “No, we’ll be fine.” You say. You both reposition yourselfs on the bed and Tom slides himself in you. You moan and grip his arm. Tom starts thrusting, and then he goes harder and faster. You were in a fit of moans, and your hips thrusted to try and get his member to go deeper inside you. Finally, you both climaxed and held onto each other as you rode the high down. When you finished, he pulled out, kissed you on the lips, and plopped down beside you on the bed. He reached his arm over pull you closer to him. He kissed you on your forehead. You both layed in each others arms until you caught your breaths. You spent the rest of the night talking to each other, about anything and everything until you both fell asleep. In the morning, you woke up to the feeling of kisses on your shoulders. “Good morning, darling Y/N.”

—————
You walked in the bar, it was unusually quiet for a Friday night. But the night is still young, so who knows what may unfold. You take a seat on a bar stool and order a cold beer. The bartender places the cold beer down and you take a swig. A nice refreshing drink after a long week of work. You savored the flavor. You scrolled through your phone for about five minutes until you noticed more people entering the bar. A group sat at a table and ordered drinks. You swiveled your bar stool around to look at the group real quick and then you turn back around. A few more people enter the bar, and someone sits next to you. He orders a beer and has his arms folded over each other on the bar. The first thing you noticed about him was his long hair, then his beard. The bartender places the beer down and the man thanks him. He takes a sip of the beer and places it down on the counter.
“You look familiar, where have I seen you before?” You say. “I’m an actor, I play Loki in the Marvel films.” The man says quietly with a british accent. “Ah yes that’s right. Well you’re a great actor, it’s nice to meet you.” You reach your hand out to shake his. “Well thank you, I’m Tom, Tom Hiddleston.” You nod. “I’m Y/N Y/L/N.” You take a sip of your beer. “So what do you do for work?” He asks you. You tell him about your typical job at the office, the mundane 9 to 5, the stale coffee. You laugh it off though, so it doesn’t sound too depressing. The two of you keep talking and get to know each other more. When the conversation goes quiet, you look around the bar and see a familiar face enter. It was your ex, Josh. The two of you had an awful breakup after a series of arguments. He scared you when he was angry, it’s why you took self defense classes after you separated. Your body tensed up and you turn quickly to Tom. “I know you barely know me, but I need your help. My ex just walked in and I...” After noticing your nervousness, Tom placed a hand on yours. “Don’t worry about it. I got you.” He smiled reassuringly and you calmed down a little. You took in a deep breath then drank from your beer.
Luckily, Josh left you alone, but he did come up to the bar at one point to order a drink. You tried to be absorbed in conversation with Tom, but you couldn’t help but see him from the corner of your eye. You almost forgot about Josh being there because of Tom’s funny jokes and sweet stories. You excused yourself to the bathroom, and spotted Josh sitting by himself drinking on the opposite side of the bar. He had that glossy look in his eyes, he was already drunk. You were a bit buzzed yourself, but Josh can drink faster. You go the restroom and when you come out, you bump into Josh. You say sorry and try to squeeze past him. He grabs onto your arm tightly. “What are you doing out with him?” He growls. “None of your business. Now let me go.” You try to shake free, but he doesn’t let you go. Instead, he drags you towards the door of the bar. He brings you outside and keeps dragging you until you’re down an alleyway, where he lets you go. “What the hell Josh? You’re drunk. Just go home.” Josh shakes his head. “No. You’re mine, Y/N.” He reaches to grab your arm again, but you sucker punch him in the face instead. You hiss in pain, as your hand hurt. Josh groaned and covered his face with his hands. As you ran out of the alleyway, you saw Tom exit the bar. You hold your hand, which was bleeding. “What happened? I never saw you leave.” He looks down to your hand and steps closer to you. “I can’t explain right now but I think we should leave.” Tom nods and you bring him to your car. You speed off to your house. The adrenaline kept you from thinking about your hurt hand. It was only a five minute drive to your house and you were too concentrated on driving to explain to Tom.
When you got to your house, you got out of the car and Tom followed you inside. You fumbled with the keys in your hand. “Here. Let me help you.” He grabs the keys from you. “It’s the gold square key.” You tell him and he unlocks the door for you. You walk in and immediately head to the bathroom, Tom following suit. You look through the cabinets for your first-aid kit. You pull it out and start opening it. “Y/N. You need to sit down. I can patch you up.” You shake your head. “No it’s okay, I got it.” Tom gently places a hand on your unhurt one. “Y/N I insist. Now would you please sit on the counter?” You nod and do as he instructs. Tom takes the washcloth off the counter and runs warm water over it. He gently washes the blood off of your hand. “Do you mind me asking what happened?” His eyes look up to meet yours. You let out a shaky breath. “When I got out of the bathroom, Josh, he was there waiting for me. He grabbed me and pulled me outside into an alley and then I punched him in the face.” You say and wince as he rubs a cut. He apologizes and you tell him it’s fine. “Has he done something like this to you before?” He asks and you shake your head. “No. He did get angry sometimes, just not this angry.” Tom puts some healing cream on your hand and rubs it in. He opens a bandage and starts wrapping it around your hand. “How long ago did you break up?” You shrug. “Probably about two months ago.” Tom pushed up his glasses. “There you go. Your hand is fixed.” You look at your hand. “Thank you Tom.” You look up at him, he smiles. “I’m glad you’re safe, Y/N.” You smile back. Tom tucks some of your hair behind your ear and leans down closer. “Y/N, can we kiss?” You say yes as you use your free hand to pull his face closer to yours. His lips were sweet and soft, and made you feel safe. You felt his beard scratch your face and you giggled because it tickled.
You pulled away from the powerful kiss and quickly licked your lips. You both laugh. You hop off the counter and put the first-aid kit back in your cabinet. “Would you like to stay? Have another drink?” You ask casually. “I’d love to, but unfortunately I have work tomorrow.” Tom says. You pout your lips. “Me too.” You walk out of the bathroom and Tom follows you. You walk to the front door. “I’d like to see you again this week, though.” You smile. “Me too. Want to exchange numbers?” You ask. Tom nods and pulls his phone out of his pocket. He slides through his phone and hands it to you. You put in your name and number and hand his phone back to him. His fingers brush yours as he takes his phone back. “Do you have a ride? Or do you want me to drive you?” Tom puts his phone back in his pocket. “I can call my driver. But thank you.” You both smile at each other. Tom cups your cheek and pulls you in for another breath-taking kiss, this time his tongue slipped over your lips. “Just something to remember me by until we see each other again.” You smile and feel a little warm in your belly. “Goodbye Y/N.” He says charmingly. You smile. “Goodbye Tom.” Tom leaves and closes the door behind him. You clutch your hand and blush as you think about how you can’t wait until the next time you see him.
