Hey, it's idvo! This is my new blog. I'm a geeky feminist with a critical eye that never blinks. If you want me to tag something, feel free to let me know.
Martin Luther King once convinced her to continue on as Uhura when she was about to quit. He told her how she was a role model for so many people and had to stay on. He rightfully recognized her as a trailblazer and the inspiration she continued to be.

I’m still thinking about what to do, whether to backup my blogs through wordpress or using the github method, but in all honesty I probably won’t do anything. My LJs are still there, but I’ve basically abandoned them at this point. And while I lurk on tumblr all the time, I rarely log in anymore. So yeah. If I do backup this blog and idvocative on wordpress I’ll let y’all know, but for now I’ll just keep things as there are and see what comes out of this whole mess.
From birth, boys and girls are taught and expected to despise one another, boys more so than girls. It's all "ew, cooties!" and other such (and worse, much worse) bullshit until puberty, when suddenly they're expected to now get along and date and all that. But, years of social conditioning don't go away with attraction, it only gets worse, because now they're expected to actively seek out the company of "the enemy." Girls are more likely to be open about liking guys than vice versa, but if a boy actually likes spending time with girls/his girlfriend? Well, there must be something "wrong" with him (read: gay). Years back, a couple of guys in my women's studies class told everyone how they were arguing about who was gayer because they wanted to spend time with their girlfriends (fortunately, they both realized how terrible that particular train of thought was).
This is also where all that friendzone shit stems from, because would a man spend time with a woman if not to eventually fuck her? So you get men who "befriend" women, not because they actually like them, but because they want to fuck them, and they get so angry when these women "only" like and appreciate them, as if genuine friendship and platonic affection are consolation prizes and not valuable on their own.
Then there's the issue of men not being emotionally open to other men, so they rely on their girlfriends to be their sole emotional support (so much so that a study showed that men often fare worse during and after a breakup than women, because they don't have the same emotional support network). This shit goes on and on and on...
But us queers? No, we didn't destroy marriage. We fixed it. We of course get these same misogynistic messages, and we're not immune from perpetuating them, but we're more likely to see through the bullshit. We don't have that stereotypical model of how a marriage "should" be, so we had to make our own. And ours is one based on love, not obligation.
I was lucky enough to have parents who not only deeply loved, but genuinely liked each other. They were best friends, and they stayed that way until my dad passed away. My mom and I miss him every single day, because she not only lost her husband, she lost her partner and companion, and my heart breaks for what she must be feeling with him not being here.
Anyway, I know what to look for in a relationship. And that isn't a man to trap and tie down, but a best friend, regardless of gender, who will love and appreciate me and who I will love and appreciate in return. And this is also one of the many reasons why I'm so proud and happy to be queer.
Protip for men: if marriage is a horrifying concept for you and you think it is an evil trap, do not buy a ring and ask a woman to marry you
Hey all! This poem is part of my chapbook Miss Translated, which I produced in a limited run as Town Hall Seattle’s Spring 2017 artist-in-residence. The main conceit behind this work is that to accurately portray my relationship with Spanish, I have to explore the pain and ambiguity of not speaking the language of my grandparents and ancestors. As a result, these poems are bilingual … sort of. Each one is translated into English incorrectly.
The poems I produced have secrets, horrific twists, emotional rants, and confessions hiding in the Spanish. It’s my hope that people can appreciate them regardless of their level of Spanish proficiency.
I hate to do this again since the surgery fundraiser with my oldest cat Josef, but I’m going to need everyone’s help again.
I’m an independent animation student attending Sheridan College, and my budget or my income isn’t at it’s best right now. I’ve already had trouble trying to pay for my bills, but I’d do anything for my cats right now, so I’m hoping to earn enough to save Rene’s life by tomorrow.
My cat Rene was just send to the animal emergency hospital tonight for his urinary problem. He was crying in pain before we brought him, but now he’s temporarily relieved. We have to rely on if he pees in the box tonight or not, to send tests. If he doesn’t pee, it’s a life or death situation for him, and he can die from a heart failure due to his bladder being filled up and blocked off by painful crystals clogging his penis if we can’t afford the procedure, which is where I need all the help.
Today I spent $300 dollars for the examination and his medicine, but there’s a possible chance that by tomorrow night we’ll have to pay almost $2000 for the procedure to save him. I want to have enough to cover any fees they’ll throw at us. I barely have enough money right now to even feed myself and pay my rent.
This is what I had to pay out of my own pocket
This is what I have to prepare for tommorow:
Rene is my youngest and also my precious son to me, he means a lot and I don’t want to lose him!
There are plenty of ways to help Rene out! You can REBLOG this or spread the word, or donate below!!
If you want to directly donate, you can do it HERE:

okay, so, I love all the posts that run off the assumption that humans are the most ridiculous sapient species in the galaxy
but what if it’s just the other way around
what if humans are notoriously straitlaced and obsessed with protocol. the bureaucrats of the stars.
which is obviously something we would constantly try to complain about and disprove only for some Alpha Centaurian to be like “Captain, your species formalized spirituality, repeatedly, and a recurring theme therein is that the heavens themselves are run as a bureaucracy. Even your rebellions and revolutions are meticulously planned.”
it’s not a bad thing, per se, to have a human on your team — analytical minds, good diplomats (if only because one human etiquette system can be more complex and even contradictory than the vastly varied customs of an entire species) — but be prepared for them to call attention to moral quandaries and loopholes that never would have occurred to you.
and speaking of loopholes, do be careful, because the only thing worse than a human armed with an ironclad system of rules is a human who’s found a gaping hole in them.
