Defining what a man is

An oversimplification for my explanation for what a man is; is that the definition of a man is whatever you want it to be. I heard a quote that goes “define yourself before the world does it for you”. I took that quote and modified it to “define yourself, words, dynamics,holidays , and everything around you before the world does it for you”. We are Born into a world where things have already been defined for us by culture, family, religion, society, media depictions, mainstream ideals, and by miriam and webster. At this point we define things around what was already appointed as the standard instead of coming up with an idea for ourselves with a blank slate.

There are over 8 billion people in the world, so that should mean there should be at least 8 billion different ideas and definitions of what a man is because through individuality the term “man” is relative. So when you release yourself from herd mentality and start thinking for yourself; make your own idea of a man.

After you deconstruct and define what a man is; you give yourself a blank slate. Like a collage start with nothing and add what you want and meld them together until you create the beautiful piece of art of what a man is. Take aspects of what a man is from different areas like other cultures, fictional and non fictional depictions and other areas of life and culminate them together and create your own concept. You can intertwine feminine energy with a masculine way of navigation as long as you define it yourself and stand strong behind it and Don’t worry about what other people think. There are plenty of men in the world who paint their nails or accentuate anything else seen as feminine and still present themselves as a man and that’s their way of navigation that they fine tuned for themselves. But what do you want a man to be.

A man and or other gender identities are whatever you want them to be, and with age and maturity that idea will change and you will see that it can become and ever evolving concept by adding, dropping or reequipping ideals as you go through different life experiences.
