Adhd ppl should have adhd friends where you just go and clean each other's house/room for them bc its easier to tidy up someone else's place than it is to tidy up my own

I don't know if this will help others, but I can be stuck all morning and be completely unable to do any of my chores that I need to do (laundry, washing up, tidying my room).
I put on music? And I'm up! I'm on the move, I'm so capable of getting things done.
Without music? Never gonna happen. I'm sat down for hours, stuck on my phone.

I'm genuinely so scared for the Palestinian people. We're about to watch a genocide, live from our PHONES and no one is going to save them.
Televising Vietnam literally lost so much US government support because people started to see what was actually happening.
Now its doing fucking NOTHING. Our leaders aren't be challenged, our leaders are backing the genocide, our leaders won't listen to us.
If now is a time a riot, it's now

okay. hi. *breath*
i've always hated being called normal - but now when i look at myself i am thinking - is that because i'm not? - i show 'symptoms' (sorry but i kinda hate that word) of autism and adhd, but nothing major???
short attention span on certain topics, easily distracted, bad time management, i can zone out doing a repetative task/motion for 10/20 minutes (playing with figit toys and simular) or just staring into space - which i find oddly calming and helps me to zone out. i take stuff very literally and people tell me i take it personally, i don't think i do, i just don't understand them. this happens with certain peolpe more than others and alot though text messages. i don't like noisy areas but can cope most of the time. i get angry if i am asked (by close family members) to do a task i am already doing/do regularly every day without fail, but it also depends alot on tone of voice. i get upset very quickly and find it hard to control my emotions alot of the time. i find that stimming (though voluntary, something i conciously start and can stop) relaxes me and helps me focus. i am a visual learner and can take a long time to complete tasks, and sometimes just loose interest altogeather.
sorry for rambling, just hoping for some help, i have suggested i have mild ADHD to my dad who instantly told me not to start feeling pressurised to label myself and that it's okay because i'm totally normal...
thanks
j.
Lets go bit by bit. I don't think a lot of people like being called normal because it equates to being called "boring" or if you have idk, a "normal music taste" it means mainstream. Generally people don't like being seen as the same as everyone else, imo but then again, I live in an echo chamber filled with very interesting and different people who in some way or another, don't fit into "normal".
Secondly, a lot of what you shared are traits of autism/ADHD, quite likely you have both but I wouldn't use me as something to go by. I recommend doing the RAADS-R test for autism and there are questionnaires that are used in adhd diagnosis appointments online that sort of gage if you are. Also helps to read experiences people have online, especially those diagnosed with one or both later on (teens to 20s) and their day to day experiences and their schooling experiences. And then, if (when) you can or want to, start seeking out a dx from doctors.
Also, just an FYI, stimming is a voluntary action. If it was uncontrollable, it would be a tick. Stimming is usually fueled by a very strong desire to do xyz action in order to calm down or show excitement etc so it seems like it's uncontrollable. But myself and many others have repressed the urge to do so around certain people or at work or school bc masking. And part of unlearning the masking is to let yourself/choose to stim

I've left crisis friends (and partners) and I've been the crisis friend. If your crisis friend doesn't listen to you tell them that they need to start looking into therapy and ignores you when you say that their mental health is starting to affect you because they refuse to take accountability for their own well being, you can leave. Someone else will step up and take your place as their helper friend. Maybe they'll do a better job than you will because they're not burnt out yet. Maybe they'll leave too. But you did your bit
Your crisis friend will be fine without you and will find someone else to latch on. I've left crisis friends and I've been the crisis friend. Except, I put the effort in to make myself better before it got to the point where my friends wanted leave.

Having free healthcare is good and all but it's so unbelievably underfunded. Trans ppl aren't seeing doctors for years after making a referring to GICs, ik ppl waiting a year or more for treatment for physical health problems. And since starting my own personal ADHD process back in march/April 2022, I had my QB test in February 2023, and the lady on the phone told me that it's likely I won't see someone for the final appointment until march 2024. And that's not even considering how long it would take to get on medication or anything.
I blame my government, I really do. If they funded it correctly and effectively, put more money into young ppl going to uni for medical and nursing degrees, they'd have more staff and the wait times would be cut in half at least. This is ridiculous

As it was requested by @peculiaroptimism, I made a diagram showing the overlap between Autism, ADHD and PTSD.聽
( I was so surprised to realise that PTSD and Autism don鈥檛 have any overlap that isn鈥檛 also shared with ADHD! )
( Click here for more diagrams )

Because it has to be said. I'm not a professional. I started this blog while I was hyperfixating on ADHD, making memes on what that's like and talking about my personal experience. Then I reconsidered that I have ASD bc I have been told constantly that I have it for over a decade. Everything here is just based on my own meandering experience.
I'm not even a psychology student. I just graduated in History and I'm about to do a classics masters by research on Ovid's Metamorphoses. So if you want accurate information on LGBT people in the past, I'm your bitch.
So, don't be a Facebook mom and take what you see online as The Truth. My aim is to get ppl thinking and do their own research. ADHD and ASD are highly comorbid. But maybe you don't have both, maybe you have ADHD and something else. I am not a doctor. Nor am I Google.

hello! i just wanted to thank you for that post about how adhd and autism diagnosis criteria dont overlap - it's been on my mind since yesterday and uhh. im Realizing Things. 馃槄 the thought has been at the back of my mind for a while now due to my communication issues but i dismissed it with 'i got a little autism sprinkled into my adhd thats normal tho, they *are* on the same spectrum after all" but uhh. yeah. i think its gonna be more than that 馃槵 anyway, im gonna reevaluate my life further ig, thank you again and have a lovely day 馃挒馃挒
Hello! I'm glad to be of help! There's a few people in my comments saying that there is an overlap but there isn't! Depending on the study, around 50% of people with ADHD also have autism. Sometimes the %age is a little higher or a little lower.
Over stimulation isn't technically an ADHD symptom. Neither is struggling with eye contact, special interests, struggles with social cues, needing things to be done a certain way. Highly recommend this quiz, the RAADS-R test which is a professional diagnostic test that may be able to help you get some ideas in order. I strongly suggest doing this with a friend because evaluating yourself is hard and others will be more aware of how you come across.

There's ppl in the tags asking if this is true and have fact check it but just Google the DSM-V for the criteria. You'll see that ADHD HAS NOTHING about stimming, repetitive behaviour, problems with communication, sensory issues. Similarly, the ASD criteria has nothing about feeling like you're on the go, or struggling to pay attention during class, or waiting your turn to speak.
Do you have ADHD (diagnosed or not) but also have symptoms of autism? You simply believe that there's an overlap! You couldn't possibly be autistic!
The diagnostic criteria for both ADHD and autism do not overlap at all! So if you relate to the criteria for autism, you may wanna do some research because you probably have both autism and ADHD bestie

Which diagnostic criteria are you referencing when you say that ADHD and autism don't have an overlap? As far as I've seen, they do: sensory issues, perception, executive function issues, and so on.
I have two answers for you. The short answer is:
That is simply not true at all. Two Google searches ("autism DSM-V criteria" and "ADHD DSM-V criteria") can easily disprove that.
The long answer is as follows:
I saw you got diagnosed with ADHD recently and congrats! idk about your assessment, but mine didn't ask me about my sensory issues. Nor do they ask about my perception on social cues, or the way I understand things. Most of the questions were geared towards executive dysfunction, how my life has been affected BC I get distracted or the things I struggle with or questions about being hyperactive and impulsive.
Because those questions get the answers needed to see if someone meets the ADHD criteria. The only time they did ask questions about social cues, imagination, sensory issues etc etc was on the pre-assessment questionnaire I had to fill in, there was a part for an autism study,,, it wont even be used or brought up my assessment, it's just that some dude is working with the clinic doing a study.
The overlap that ppl are seeing/report on is more than likely due to the fact that ADHD and autism are comorbid and there are a lot more ppl who have both rather than one or the other. Some countries and areas will only give ppl the diagnosis for one of these and not let them get tested for the other. Other countries, such as Wales, won't let autism folks get annADHD diagnosis because the NHS there sees ADHD as a stepping stone to an autism diagnosis. Some healthcare systems only believe you can have one not both.
Outside of that, there will be people who are more affected by their autism than their ADHD and vice versa and don't realise they have both. So, for eg, when they see autistic people saying "oh, I have autism and I experience these things" and they relate to it,,, they assume it's because there's this massive overlap. But if the overlap was that great, it would be much harder to diagnose ppl with one or the other. It's more than likely that they need to do some research into autism away from the idea of "it's similar to ADHD" and see if they relate to it.
There are a lot of ppl with ADHD who refuse the idea of having autism BC deep down, they have a lot ableist beliefs about autism and it's time for the ADHD community to stop doing that.
TL;DR: ADHD and autism have two very distinct lists of criteria that don't overlap. Even the testing doesn't really focus on (if at all) the criteria for the other dx. Most ppl don't know they have both or think that it's a possibility BC they are (unknowingly) ableist towards autism, haven't read into ADHD properly, their healthcare system doesn't allow for both dx, the list goes on.
