Is it just me or does having a positive interaction with a stranger scratch a very particular itch? I think it's the reassurance that the world is not split solely into people who already love you and people who never will.

So when people say that poetry is a luxury, or an option, or for the educated middle classes, or that it shouldn’t be read at school because it is irrelevant, or any of the strange and stupid things that are said about poetry and its place in our lives, I suspect that the people doing the saying have had things pretty easy. A tough life needs a tough language – and that is what poetry is. That is what literature offers – a language powerful enough to say how it is. It isn’t a hiding place. It is a finding place.
Jeanette Winterson, from Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?

reminders for writers
yeah, we all need reminders once in a while (write these on a sticky note)
1. stop comparing yourself to other writers, it’s not going to get you anywhere except a pit of despair.
— rather, look up to other writers! study their style how they work implement it into your lifestyle
2. you’re still learning, writing & literature are vast you can’t know everything you’ll get better.
— according to me, you never stop learning new things, its be because writing encompasses everything i can think of
3. your writing style is going to be different.
— and you should let it differ from other styles because it’s you.
— again feel free to adapt bits & pieces of other writing styles but don’t lose yours in the process :(
4. not everyone will like your book.
— but some will <3
— a novel is like a refined version of a person. do all the people who know you admire you? nope
— same for your novel only some people will enjoy it, relate with it so be grateful for those people, do better for them.
5. talent & skill
— skilled writers differ from talented writers (i’m not saying either sides lack skill/talent but one of the features is recessive)
— for me? im a skilled writer i learned writing for my own reasons and i do still compare myself to a lot of talented writers because words flow like a river in their minds, i envy it.
— however both are equally important <3
6. the real world? yea, that exists…
— so sorry to disappoint you guys but its not just dragons and wizards. we have an actual sky get out of your houses
7. balance!
— food, water, school and your job
— writing is addictive, you can say, “it’s like your own personal brand of hër0!n”
— you’re dutiful to your passion but you also need to focus on your responsibilities and priorities them!!
[p.s: totally didn’t tag edward cullen—]
