😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

Oh, 100%. It's my favorite hobby. I think one of my favorite examples is the entire concept of Remnant, in which the dondons flock to the Light Dragon - and Link has to wonder if they recognize the dragon as Zelda, or if they recognized Zelda as the dragon.

🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?

Zelda, 100%! She's my comfort character and one I usually relate to (and flood with headcanons). I would make EVERY fic from her POV if I wasn't worried about her internal monologue giving away all the plot. ':)

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

THEM JUST HOLDING HANDS AND SMILING AT EACH OTHER AND FINALLY FEELING SAFE... bonus points if they were just in a horrible situation.

💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?

That's a hard one, as all the really heartbreaking stuff is yet to come... but I'd say it's a tie between my first fic, Clumsy with Secrets, or Chapter 3 of Forget Me Not, and a few recent angsty one-shots of mine. My heart usually breaks more to write the bittersweet stuff, ironically... but if you are interested in heavy angst or doomed by the narrative, try Immortal Spirit or my Hylink series!

WIP Wednesday!

A sneak peek at Origin of Calamity this WIP Wednesday! If you liked my one-shot, A Glimpse into the Past and Future, you will like this one a lot (as well as the tie in one shots I have planned for it)!

With a twitch of her ear, she perks up. “There you are. Did you—?” Zelda’s voice trails off as it’s clear her attention rests on the three connected masks in his other arm. Not a moment sooner, she springs up to meet him. “Are these it?” “They’re haunted.” Link blurts, completely straight-faced. As soon as Zelda is about to respond, he interrupts to elaborate: “I’m serious! I promise!” Presenting the three Zonaite faces to Zelda, he lets his thoughts continue to spill. “It’s like it knows I was thinking about it! And that’s not even mentioning what I saw in the window last night—”

“You saw something in the window last night?” “It was—” He shakes his head. “You go first. I could tell you wanted to say something.” “Link—” Defeated, Zelda exhales. She squints. “Alright, but I’ll be bringing that up again soon.” She kneels down to take a closer look at the masks, although careful to keep a safe enough distance. “They look so identical, but they’re in perfect condition! I thought you fought Ganondorf with these equipped? Yet there isn’t a scratch!” Her eyes light up. “Haunted.” Link repeats. The structure around his right arm idly turns and clicks (something he has hardly cared to notice with all the mind-jumbling this magic stuff has been doing).

Straightening up, the princess gives a firm nod of acknowledgement. “I swear Sonia and Mineru and I spoke about these things at one point…” She couldn’t help herself, especially when she realized she was living in ancient history. “Hold on. Look!” Zelda yanks the Purah Pad from the hook on her belt, opening the archive she had uncovered from when the item was still in her possession over ten-thousand years ago. Upon finding what she’s looking for after a long series of scrolling, she practically shoves the screen in Link’s face— so close that he can’t really read it at all. “Ah— Sorry.” The Purah Pad is pulled back a decent distance. She reads bits and pieces aloud alongside Link’s own reading.

I was trying to channel the silly BotW dialogue options for this one.

Origins of Calamity is a fic I have in progress (I'm not posting just yet just to be sure it's PERFECT) that is meant to bridge the gap between BotW and TotK's histories. From the perspective of Link and Zelda in the present studying the Ancient Hero, they begin to uncover the memories of him and the past Princess Zelda in the aftermath of the Imprisoning War and the shadow of a looming Calamity. There will also be a proper fic showing the same discoveries in more detail from the perspective of the past Zelda herself following this one!

Sorry for the wait, @crazybananacakes! I absolutely loved your prompt and the angst potential - so much so that I ended up writing, like, 20 different outlines with different Zelinks and "what if" scenarios. I ended up going with Classic Zelink here for the anniversary today (38!!!), even if BOTW/TOTK Zelink was the obvious option... but believe me, now I have plenty of other angst and "what if" one-shots on the backburner. It's actually a little crazy. Here, both the Zeldas are one in the same - and there are plenty of other headcanons sprinkled in. I would love to make this a larger fic!

Sneak Peak

《 Mist coats the air in a suffocating serenity. The world, under pouring rain, wears a mask as if it were at ease— but the rushing of footsteps through growing puddles of mud urges it to wake up. Trickles of red drop down to stain the layer of water.

The storm thuds against the earth in a rage-filled song the further on this trail goes, washing it away with further ferocity by the minute.

Two silhouettes seek some illusion of refuge in the merciless weather. They are outlined only by the occasional crack of ruby lightning.

An identical scar marks their intertwined hands.

Both fight to take the lead— not with hostility, but desperation. The taller of the two, a young woman, pulls along her companion for the majority of the time despite his consistent (yet silent) protests.

Tears draw out thin strings of velvet and cling the curls of her hair to her face, pale with something reminiscent of illness. Her eyes— a dull, silver-blue— droop with the look of someone already long dead. She shakily gazes back to the stumbling boy she leads onward, but this lowers her guard just enough for her legs to finally give out beneath her. 》

Lake Hylia carries a light, cool breeze against the summer air. It rolls along the fan of a windmill, creating a faint rocking sound to those up close. As the grass brushes at their feet, two children stand in its thin shadow. One wears a soft pink dress and carries an easel under her arm— the other wears a forest-green tunic with a scarf of a darker shade. The boy in the Hytopian clothes, fashioned after the wear of the lost Kokiri, shifts uncomfortably on his feet.

“Don't give me that look… You're having second thoughts about standing still for so long, aren't you?” The young princess sets up her work all the same, intent on proceeding nonetheless. “I thought you were excited to model for me!” 》

WIP Wednesday! :)

For the first time in who knows how long, Link’s rest is nothing more than an empty void. The shadow clouding his mind seems to draw on for an eternity, but not once does it take the form of a nightmare— it’s almost peaceful, even while devoid of a beautiful ocean or infinite blue sky. Waking up comes by second nature all the same. No one can dream forever, after all. As his eyes slowly drift open, Link feels himself sunken into soft fabric. He can hardly bother to move, at first, from the otherworldly comfort he has found himself in— his arms remain asleep and unwilling to help him sit upright. The boy firmly shuts his eyes for a moment and forces himself to take a look around all the same. His hazy gaze meets intricate wallpaper, lamps lined with silver, and the curtains of the apparent canopy bed he lies in. Finally, this wandering stops on what little he can see of the face of a girl standing not far away; she speaks to an only slightly taller man in the doorway. He murmurs her name again under his breath. Perhaps the name was a little off, but his mumbling certainly catches the girl’s attention. She promptly drops her conversation and turns around. With a rush, she approaches and kneels at the bedside. “Link— It’s me, Zelda.” Link blinks. Is that not what he said? If not, then why does her expression spark with something like familiarity? “Link, are you okay?” The princess has to gently ease Link back into a seat when his response is just to try and stand. Although visibly wracked with worry, she narrows her eyes. “Please, be careful— You only just woke up.”

In case anyone missed it, the more recent chapter of my Marink/ALttP Zelink multichap Forget Me Not is based on this old work of mine:

Of course, I think I did it better in Forget Me Not - I had buildup this time around - but the writing isn't actually my concern as of now. It's the art! Should I give the fic some cover art like the one above? Perhaps a redraw is in order? If time allows, it's possible! >:) I have some better ideas for Zelda's dresses and such now, and some of the next chapter's events are very easy to visualize in my head. Hoping I can do it some justice!! :)

Link finally wakes up in this next part, maybe I'll share a brief WIP snippet today or tomorrow...
