One time me and my friend were sitting right next to each other and not saying anything but we both wanted to talk. I started with literally, “so are we gonna talk?” And they said they had literally no idea how to initiate the conversation. Mind you, usually I’m the one who does it but our conversations are nowhere near normal. Usually it flips from danmei to the space time continuum to the projects we’ve been working on. Sometimes all of these in the span of about an hour or less sometimes all each individual conversations. So I just said “just say something. Doesn’t matter what because either way the conversation is eventually going to get so derailed that neither of us will remember where it started.” And so we started talking about danmei. Sometimes we sit next to each other and listen to our own music while working and sometimes we blabber on about anything and everything to the point that sometimes the people around us get concerned for our mental well-being. If you’re being your own weird self I don’t think there’s a wrong way to do a conversation. And it’s not like you can’t ask “am I talking too much and do you want me to stop?” I’ve done it several times with several people I know and usually they do want to hear what I have to say but sometimes they need a minute. And if you don’t want to talk, don’t! It’s harder if you force yourself to talk. One of the best qualities in a person can be the ability to just be in each other’s company. Not necessarily talking and possibly doing two separate things but just enjoying someone close by. If you can’t be yourself around your friends, are they really your friends? Then again, this is coming from someone who only has a few friends. And I like it that way. Less drama and more good vibes.

Just a random addition nobody has to take seriously:

The hanahaki is very annoying and often grows faster than he can realistically expel it most of the time so half the time he just… doesn’t talk. Uses sign language or whatever else to communicate because it’s easier than hacking up flowers 90% of the time. Plus his throat is pretty wrecked from all the flowers. Obviously he cuts them back every now and then because it’s uncomfortable and often inconvenient but for the vast majority of the time he’s just silent because he has other things to attend to.

Additionally if Hua cheng is a sort of “patient zero” there’d probably be more than a few silent ghosts a bit like him who are still around due to unfinished business with the ones they get hanahaki for.

Lovesick

I enjoy the thought of a hanahaki au where Hua Cheng developed hanahaki disease before he died, but instead of ridding himself of it after death, he allowed it to progress far past what a living being could ever survive. I think he'd be really, really into such a physical embodiment of his adoration for Xie Lian!

I also like to think that in this au Ghost City is full of lush flower paths and gardens, and every single plant was grown from cuttings or seeds from Hua Cheng

Imma be blunt in my opinions on this poll. It’s 100% Lan wangji. No contest. Because this man has done several things to break MAJOR lan clan rules while not giving a single shit and still somehow having a great reputation. Fought 33 elders and was whipped 33 times only to go pick up his crush’s child (who he got whipped for) and proceed to wait 13 years for him to come back and continue to break every rule in the book for him the second he gets back. Man regrets absolutely nothing and will gladly continue smuggling alchohol for the rest of his life for his husband. Lan Xichen’s rule following ass can’t beat that!
