i'm totally with you re: zutara. i love aang, i really do, but his relationship with katara is soooooo one-sided.
genuinely it would have made for a better coming of age if he learned to move on/realized he loved her for the projection she put up (everyone's carer and mom-friend) rather than who she was a whole person (he often didn't like her when she broke 'character' from that persona!).
There's nothing wrong with that, but part of growing up...is navigating that kind of thing. It felt like the narrative just handed her to him as part of the prize.
Also...from a story point of view it was unsatisfying after all the hints that turned out to be red herrings about her ending up with Zuko. Not to mention him and Mai was...Yikes.
My mom (least fandom person I know) actually said something once about shipping that changed my perspective forever, but about a completely unrelated story: "Why does she have to end up with one of them?" SHE DOESN'T. We could have seen Katara go back to one or both of the Water Tribes to train more or even teach too. Start a school for girl benders at the North Pole. Finally live a life for herself, and learn and grow on her own without having to look after others for once. BUT IF SHE WAS GOING TO BE WRITTEN OFF FOR ONE OF THEM, LET HER HAVE THE EMO BOY, OR AT LEAST SOME OTHER GUY. At least it would have felt like she choose him rather than the other way around.
imagine you have squirrels in your pants and instead of helping you, a bunch of strangers start spitting absolute bars about it and making your pain into a breakdance. i’d be inconsolable.
I do not trust all the millennial women who still have a crush on Peter Pan, you should’ve outgrown that and developed a crush on Captain Hook like a normal person.
"Smile and circulate," Irene said through gritted teeth, drawing her skirts back from the blood that had spattered by her feet.

Three Sentence Review: This was another great story from The Library, although I didn't think it was quite as good as some of the previous installments. I had a hard time keeping track of the large cast of characters, especially because I was listening to this as an audiobook. But I'm anxious to see where the secret dragon history plotline is going!

i am the happiest creature in the world. perhaps other people have said so before, but not one with such justice. i am happier even than jane; she only smiles, i laugh.
