I'm currently writing Yva, a wip that has a bunch of ghosts, a sentient ship, a wandering library and one very tired villain who just wanted to make some quick money but ended up becoming the guardian of a little girl
The wip Tag is wip: yva
It's unfinished as of now but work has been busy and my two daughters are constantly sick since may, so writing time has been sparse
it's summer and it's time for me to explore and read more wips. i'm not picky, i'd like to have a taste of them all, but i will say that i'm currently most drawn to fantasy wips.
so please like / reblog with a description of your wip in the tags, including genre(s), name, and preferrably your wip tag too, and i'll have a look!

Writeblr Pick A Card 5/15
a haunting debate - do they act on the call? Ignore it? How solid is their reluctance to the call of the inciting incident?
Instructions:
Take a look at the three drawings in the picture above
decide which one you feel more drawn to and go with it
Check for the corresponding text below. Each text will provide a mix of things, take what helps your story or made you have an idea and leave whatever doesn't fit
Group 1
Your character is haunted by the whole thing that went down and disrupted their life. They can't tell up from down, around every corner there seems to be bad news waiting, and wherever they go, someone's eyes seem to be on them, watching their every move.
Pressure is high for your character; the decision is urgent and they are already stalling just by taking a breath. Scared to disappoint, overwhelmed, and scared of what is to come, they wish to hide away, go to sleep, and wake up without that burden upon them.
While your character certainly is being crushed by the expecations on them, they are likely not crushed enough. Pressure is high, but it needs to be higher for them to take the stand and rise to the challenge presented to them.
Lots of sneaking around, hiding away, avoiding places and people. There is whispers and letters, messages, calls, people hammering on a door, door bells ringing. Days are long and the nights where everyone is gone and live is calm again are way too short; like a blink they pass your character, leaving them in much disarray and increasingly bad mood.
Their final reason to give in and accept that this is their challenge to overcome? Who knows, but it's not happening anytime soon.
Group 2
Head held high, your character marches towards destruction. Thinking they've got all they need, are prepared as best as possible, and are as talented and lucky as anyone could be, they walk straight into a fatal situation.
Unwilling to listen, they ignore patient words and calls for a more humble approach, certainly digging the hole for their own fall.
Riding on high horses is much an understatement; they just know no bounds when it comes to their pride of being the chosen one.
Soon, the trumpets serenading them will turn to laughter of the ones your character will have to best to declare victory. They are not ready to take the challenge, they are vibing to wing it.
It's almost comedic tragedy to watch them and their high nose and even higher head, but they will learn a lesson urgently soon and perhaps after that they will know to treat this challenge with the respect it deserves.
Twice fallen and thrice rising, a saying goes and certainly, your character is about to make this their credo.
lions and high heels, long dresses, dark marble, grass that is so green that is seems black at night, teeth, whiskey and knives.
Group 3
There is much to say and even more to think of for your character. Luckily, they are a good listener. As reluctant as they are and as big and scary as the task at hand might look, it is clear that this is a matter of high caution and even higher planning.
Together with their trusted people, they sit down and talk about the options, their viewpoints, and generally about how each and everyone sees the matter at hand.
Careful however, you never know the full history of a chair you find on the street and that is likely the case with the people you invite into your life as well.
Someone is not being true to your character but your character is unaware and will remain so until later in the story.
For now, three younger people and three people (likely older or even dead) only the character knows and confines in know of the pending choice that is to make.
Atmosphere is calm and comfortably, they are somewhere cozy and safe, their life is still calm and somewhat unchanged, however, it's turning up like the year's worst thunderstorm out of season.
Babies, angels, dreams, and pillowcases. Golds and reds, babyblue.

after a long time of being too busy to write, I actually got another chapter down; excited to share a tiny bit of it today 🥰
“What’s that for now? Why bother making such a fuss, Mitrik. How’d we even get here, mh?”, he asked with a smile that wasn’t anything like one. It was a threat, Mitrik knew, but to be fair, he knew a lot more than that. “We got here, captain, because you struggle with the responsibility that comes with your father’s pet, because you underestimate the results a good steak can bring about, and because you love to reduce humankind to dumb bags of meat running around thirsting for all the things they can’t have in life.” Dropping the ice back into the crate, Mitrik gave him a quick glance, expecting some sort of tantrum or mocking reply but there was only silence. Oh well. He wouldn’t be the one complaining about that. “If you excuse me now”, he said in the same monotonous tone, “You ordered me to take care of the girl, which, if I may say, definitely included making sure she won’t be murdered by a hungry hellhound. And it is either her or these steaks once he wakes, and I am sure even a servant from hell would prefer a handful of good steaks instead of a small human with barely any meat on her.” And with that said, he made his way out of the storage room, past the snoring guards, and towards the stairs, however, just as he stepped on it, he stopped and turned to look at Yekarov once again.
“Oh, and the biscuits you are looking for are on the right shelf, top row, in the box labeled pastries. Wonder how your superpower magic did not catch that and instead had you look where the meat and produce is stored.” This time it wasn’t difficult for Yekarov to spot what tone his right hand man was having with him. And boy did he not like it.

the inciting incident
Instructions:
Take a look at the three drawings in the picture above
decide which one you feel more drawn to and go with it
Check for the corresponding text below. Each text will provide a mix of things, take what helps your story or made you have an idea and leave whatever doesn't fit
Group 1
A king is tired of his castle. At night, the king flees, taking only what he can carry, leaving his castle in the hands of three strangers. Aries is up in the moon while the other stars have fallen dark. Thinking the castle lies fully abandoned, the three strangers move in, unaware of the presence that has been left behind much against their will.
If you're stuck with this, have some options to think about:
Your character is one of the three strangers
Your character is presence left behind
Your character seeks shelter for the night in the abandoned castle, noticing the presence and promising the presence to reunite it with the king
Your character is hired by the three strangers to do something about the presence
The presence seeks out your character for help to find their "home" aka the person that left them
The castle is only visible at night once specific conditions are met, prompting rumors to make their way across the world. Your character is there to see about the rumors themselves
The king leaving has been far in the past, now where once was a castle, there is now a shop or a house and your character works/live in it, causing them to witness odd things happening until they are drawn into the history of the house/store
Group 2
Your character has always been fascinated with chemistry, magic and cooking. They just love to mix things together and have been doing it from an early age. Yes, they started with soup made from mud and twigs, progressed to cooking early, until chemistry crossed their path at school. They love books and reading. One night they play pretend again, mixing various ingredients, having fun but it doesn't stay with play pretend. They discover something, create something, and it changes their current life completely.
Or, your character has a family member who loves doing so and they play pretend together, mixing and having fun, following recipes from fairy tales and old books found at the library sell. Things happen, and everything changes for them.
Or it's about a character unknown to your protagonist. They explore a city, find a cute little antique store and bring home knick-knacks, old books, or decorative vials. The vials steam and foam at night, they glow, there is a scent lingering with them; they do something and your character gradually finds out but it really hits them when it is too late. They may try to find the shop again and start a wild goose chase to have whatever happened reversed by the store owner who's nowhere to be found and everyone your character asks about them doesn't know what store or person they mean.
Group 3
Two powerful people come together to make plans that are supposed to bring forth a solution. At the table, there are six beings involved: three men, a woman, a dalmatian, and a tucan with a tail made of snakes. They get together behind closed doors, unknown to anyone but rumors happen.
Your character might be one of the ones at the table
Your character might be the caretaker of the animals who love your character dearly and warn them or share the secret with them somehow
Your character might be the one they conspired about, having a bad gut feeling upon discovering the closed and locked doors to a room that has never been locked before
Your character might not have been involved at all with anyone of these 6 people and still somehow know about what happened; either through dreams or gossip
Your character may know because they watch the stars at night to cartograph their movements and their equipment helped your character to figure out something is going on behind these locked doors

Writeblr Pick A Card 3b/15
part 2: supporting characters and how they think they will fix the characters life
Instructions:
Take a look at the three drawings in the picture above
decide which one you feel more drawn to and go with it
Check for the corresponding text below. Each text will provide a mix of things, take what helps your story or made you have an idea and leave whatever doesn't fit
Group 1
There's a group of three somewhat ruling over your character's life. Not in an ill way, but they have adapted to making the decisions and phrasing it in a way that the character things it was their own idea or decision. While there is manipulation involved and your character needs to grow out of it and learn to make their own decisions, the three do not have ill intentions and simply think what they do is the right thing to do and that it is covering everyone's best interest.
Two of the three argue a lot, mostly because they have very different decisions they would like the character to make, the third one is somehow always the one who manages to reason between the two so that they can bring forward a "good" choice.
These three characters are valued by your character and seen as sources of trust. They do not doubt their words or intend to do so whatsoever as of yet but they will have to.
The three characters are pulling the chariot, so to speak, and your character sits inside and stirrs the wheel accordingly once they start pulling the chariot into the direction.
While the three characters think they know what it takes to help your character achieve their goal, their actions and decisions bring them further and further away; this may be known to the three or not. In the case of the first, they will keep it a secret, in case of the latter, they will find out together with the character.
Group 2
These supporting characters are strangers. Your character has never met them before, has no relations to them or is otherwise connected to them. However, that doesn't stop them. Four keep showing up randomly, two others always seem to instantly know what your character needs.
Your character feels overwhelmed with their constant presence and moves homes a lot, hoping to get rid of them but wherever your character goes, they seem to follow suit.
While they know absolutely nothing about your character and investigation never brings up anything they could want of your character, they just won't leave them alone.
The six of them, unbeknownst to the character, want to do one good thing since for most of their lives, they have done others bad. Making someone else's life less painful, less taxing and draining is their last chance at something they want desperately and for whatever reason, they picked out your character to do just that.
Problem is, your character rather not has total strangers mingle with their life so delivery of these good things they need to do has been difficult.
Group 3
This supporting character connects with your character on a business level. It is someone who has done business with them for a long time and they know them even longer, probably since childhood.
It may be an accountant, someone that helps them with educational matters, but in any way, this supporting character is scary on the outside and the softest bean on the inside.
They have gone through a ton of hardship and damaging lessons, they have made all the mistakes and they would love nothing more than to protect your character from the same fate.
Too bad that your character is a bad listener.
While the supporting character does not like seeing these known mistakes happen, they do not lecture or brag about having been right. They simply help your character back up once they hit the ground and support them so that they can try again.
However, all kindness aside, it's probably what further destroys your character. They need a lecture, a serious word, a scolding, even, but the supporting character -having had all this when they were making these mistakes themselves- feels like doing so would only drive your character away further, hence why they do not do what the character needs most.
They are reduced to sit by and watch how one mistake after the other is made, losing your character piece by piece. To fix their path, they need to involve themselves much more but that is quite unlikely at this point.
Maybe, one might think, they do not care as much about your character as they make it look.

Writeblr Pick A Card 3a/15
part 1: the protagonist’s life and their outside world
Instructions:
Take a look at the three drawings in the picture above
decide which one you feel more drawn to and go with it
Check for the corresponding text below. Each text will provide a mix of things, take what helps your story or made you have an idea and leave whatever doesn't fit
Group 1
Your character is one heck of a quick-judging fella. They walk their daily paths in the shadow, watching, observing and judging the people around them. Not necessarily in a bad manner or with ill-intention, it stands to reason that they are just curious and people-watching might be one of their favorite hobbies. Being rather introverted, their social life isn't the most exciting and they get to spend a lot of time with themselves and the things they enjoy doing. Your character has a particular affinity for water; be it rivers, ponds, lakes, or the ocean, so that is where they go to when life gets a bit too extroverted for their taste. Watching other people so frequently, they learned to see through everyone's bullshit just fine, making them one hard to fool or trick.
Looking at them from the other side of view, however, these qualities don't come out much to other people since your character tends to be socially awkward. There is an air of distance even for the closest friends and no one really knows much about your character. They have set times where they appear in certain places, for example the coffee shop down the street where they get a snack and their beverage of choice after a draining day at work or in the park by the lake in the early morning before work.
People are genuinely curious about your character, however, your character doesn't notice or misinterprets their social hints.
Overall, your character's life is quiet and their outside world watches them as much as your character watches them. Somehow, though, they always pass by each other, not really managing to connect, perhaps, causing feelings of not belonging there or at times being lonely.
Group 2
Your character has it all: courage, cuteness, the element of surprise. They are favored among their peers, a joy to have around, and generally popular with people really really fast. Socialities are the air they breath and spending time alone is the bane of their existence.
Being a busy-bee and always involved with someone elses life, your character lacks self-knowledge but they have not noticed that yet. Thinking they have got all their ducks lined up at the shore, they go about their days, laughing and having fun and mingling with everyone who hasn't disappeared by the count of three.
However, looming in the distance is something else. Your character's outer world is about to change and they may not be prepared for it since they lack a decent amount of self-knowledge and a firm understanding of what they like and value on a personal level rather than a peer-directed one.
They probably work a busy job with lots of social interactions and etiquette, unspoken social rules and there is always the pressure of needing to live up to people's expectations.
Although your character personally wouldn't have it any other way, their little fortress will come tumbling down sooner rather than later, changing the ways they interact with people considerably.
Group 3
Your character walks through life with what seems to be an army of guardian angels by their side. Nothing ever goes truly wrong for them, although things aren't looking really good.
Or more like, they aren't looking good in people's eyes. In your character's eyes, things couldn't be any better.
Not having a job, they spend their time as they please on the road. They explore cities and villages, beautiful landscapes, and generally, they go wherever they feel drawn to be.
Connecting with the people in various places can be difficult, mostly because society doesn't hold a good opinion of people like your character but that doesn't stop them from being kind and friendly with anyone they come across.
Cooking over campfires, they will often invite strangers to sit and eat with them because at the end of the day, your character prefers to have a meal with someone rather than alone.
They aren't really sure what they are looking for or what these places are lacking for them to stay and settle down, but things seem to stay that way.
While they encounter situations that might seem unlucky or disatrous at first, your character somehow never fails to find the good in it, often coming out of it in an even better state than they were in before.
Being lucky and adventurous is one thing, however, your character slowly wonders if there might be something wrong with them or the places they come across since none seem to be what they are looking for. No luck in the world seems to be able to change that for them.

Writeblr Pick A Card 2/15
a hint at what the protagonist will learn before the end of the story
Instructions:
Take a look at the three drawings in the picture above
decide which one you feel more drawn to and go with it
Check for the corresponding text below. Each text will provide a mix of things, take what helps your story or made you have an idea and leave whatever doesn't fit
Group 1 Growing up knowing everything is planned out for you already is far from convenient. Your story teaches your character that plans made and plans made are two different things. Needles, thread, paper, pens, ink by candle light, flickering lights on the dark streets, whispers at odd hours in the living room, serious faces by the fire, winters in the library and summers spent running away - your character doesn't quite get it yet. While they follow the map that has been handed to them from an early age, they do find little nooks and crannies, hidden unmarked paths, and secret hide-outs which slowly gain more and more space on their map; tearing the carefully prepared thing apart, much to the dismay of their family.
Group 2 You can't wander through a herd of horses trying to spot a unicorn while keeping everyone's respect on an adequate level, but your character is doing it. Seeing only the good things of situations, they have grown blind to risks and limits. Surely, their merry-go-round is one of a kind, but with each turn on it, the dark things catch up faster and faster. Your character might know and not care, or care and not know; however, on their chase after whimsy and wonder, they hardly stop to listen to voices of reason. If they listen at all, it is mostly to the whispering voices in the fire and the cackling laughter of the stars in the odd hours. Your story will teach your character to listen and to listen well, however, it can not force them to pay attention to what is said.
Group 3 Sometimes, the exact measurements are necessary, sometimes they reveal how much one can spare comfortably (or not), and sometimes, the exact measurements one stuck to troughout their lives turn out to be wrong. In your story, your character will receive hints of wrongdoing, of ill purpose and bad luck; plain ignorance and an inability to set things right. Drawing circles in the sand, your character calculates the perfect amount of steps necessary to get them what they desire, but sand is a fickle thing, and so is your character. Twisting and turning, never really having a starting point and an ending point, your character seems like a clock that runs and runs and runs but never chimes. Who knows if they even can chime. After all the careful measuring and adjusting, they might have lost themselves a little and forgot about what they were going after.

hi viska! first of all, congratulations for passing! Good job!
Will you post the next PAC today? Since it's a Sunday and you mentioned you'll post one each weekend, not trying to push! I'm just super excited for the next part!
Thank you!
And yes, it'll be posted sometime today, probably in the evening though, because I'll be visiting my grandmother with my daughters and since they don't get to see their great-granny often, we'll try to stay as long as possible

Different flavored popsicles fix various writing problems/mistakes (change in tense, spelling, forgetting small details, etc). What flavor is the problem you eat the most of?
This is very specific but I have this problem that each word has to fit the melody that I am following while I write? Like, i look at a sentence I wrote and then one word "sounds" too high or too low or it changes the melody in a way that doesn't fit the rest of the melody in the sentence and I know this probably doesn't make any sense at all but I need a popsicle for this haha

the PCA starts out strong! I'm loving it, thank you so much, I'm looking forward to the rest of the series! I hope it's okay to ask but I have a character in my main project that has a choice to make but I have no idea for a choice & this is my first draft and I was thinking if it is possible to just get two choices and I'll take one and if it needs adjusting in the second draft, I'll do just that? i love pick a cards & i did not know i needed one for my writing projects this is amazing
Glad you like it, hope you will like the other posts as well but if there is one that doesn't fit your writing, don't forget to just leave it be. It's all about prompting ideas :)
Choice 1 - your character needs to be patient and wait but they decide to confront someone about something and not in a nice way; they are thinking full argument, opinion clashes, chewing someone out. To find the best way of confrontation, they sit down and analyze the information they have about the person. Their sour face and thin-line lips make everyone avoid them, only worsening your characters mood.
Choice 2 - your character decides to do what is best for them (and them only). Their goal is to make themselves happy, to achieve what they are working towards and while they do care about others, they still aren't stopped by that from stepping over a few bodies. This is about them and them only, they are the one everything should be about and they will do what it takes to get the spotlight. They may not be doing what was initially (and carefully) planned but they do what they think is right for them and if that brings a handful of downfalls and risks, well, then it's like that.

Writeblr Pick A Card
I have recently been asked if I'd bring these back; last time I did one was at least 2 years ago so have a quick explanation:
You'll see three things in the picture below
decide which one you feel more drawn to and go with it
Check for the text below the picture but make sure it is your group's text. Each text will provide a mix of things, take what helps your story or made you have an idea and leave whatever doesn't fit
I will make this a 15-posts series, following the Save The Cat Beat Sheet. Each post, you get to pick one group and use the information given to write a story. It's a fun little excercise I like to do while writing on my projects but you can also use this to generate plot ideas or character development ideas for your existing stories. Tweak away, you can take and leave whatever you need. So if that sounds like something you'll have fun doing, have a try! If not, don't worry, sorry to have crowded your dash 🙂
Posts likely will be posted every Saturday or Sunday.

Writeblr Pick A Card 1/15 - a “before” snapshot of the protagonist
Group 1
Your character has just returned home from their hero's journey, their life is different now, their values and goals changed, dreams have been forgotten and others have been found. However, they return to their little house where everything is just the way they left it. Unopened mail scatters around the mailbox, the inside stuffed full with even more mail. Newspapers of days far in the past, articles with faces they once knew. The telephone on the counter by the door blinks, indicating that there are messages waiting to be listened to. Pressing the button, they wander around, picking up things, leafing through mail, sorting out stuff but it gets them itchy in a way they can not describe at first. They feel out of place and restless, the voices on the answering machine echo; some even have no distinct face to them anymore. However, something catches their attention.
Group 2
Your character went out of their way to get here. It's a calm place, they have to admit. One full of gentle nature, entertaining opportunities, and cozy architecture. Fishermen sail every river and lake, it's almost impossible to find a speck of water without one. Standing at the edge of a small wooden dock that reaches so far into the lake that they can barely see the shore behind them, they hold up a small painting and compare it to the lush greens and the rippling water around them. After a bit of thinking and comparing, they are confident in their opinion: this is it, the place they have been seeing in their dreams whenever they got off their medication. A flock of birds scatter as a handful of boats draw closer, waving at them, greeting in a matter that lures a smile on their face. Folding the paper with the painting and putting it back into their hidden chest pocket, they wave back, ready to dive right in. They'd find out. And no one would know, right? They had taken measures after all to throw them all of their trace. They would have never believed them when they'd told them where they were going, what they were trying to find. But they'd done it, and now they would learn the truth. Barely having said that, the first boat anchors by the little dock, reaching for their hand.
Group 3
Hurrying through the narrow street, your character hastily closes their worn bag. Lanterns flicker on, and some turn right off as your character races past. From other streets, quickly approaching steps echo across the plaster. It's not one pair of feet, but a dozen that hurries along the very same street. Dressed in black; all carrying the same worn out bag that they try to hasitly close as they run as if the devil himself is after them. Your character crosses a bridge and sprints down several winding roads until they finally seek shelter underneath a wooden bus station stall. The light flickers once, twice, thrice even, and then there is no more noise. Cars and busses drive past, all minding their own businesses, but in the midst of them, a black carriage approaches. And again, everyone minds their own business. No one stops, no one even looks at it; almost as if it isn't there. And when it stops by the bus station and the door opens, a hand reaches out, ready to take the bag. However, your character hesitates. They clutch the bag tightly against their body but the hand grows impatient, motioning for them to hurry up. In the end, your character hands over the bag. The door closes and the carriage drives away. Soon, the noise is back. There are no more cars and busses now, no more hurrying feet, no more shoes clicking on plaster. Your character glances up with a heavy mind and an even heavier heart, looking for comfort in a sky full of thick smoke but there is none anymore. The sky is clear and as beautiful as they remember it. "Good for you", a voice croaks behind them and when they turn, something hard hits them over their head and everything turns dark.

"You will find, Captain, that humans come with a different capability than angels or demons. We do not have magic and curses to cheat us into a better starting position. Surely, some may have ancestor wealth doing that for them but most humans start with nothing and go from there. We travel and discover and learn because we want to; not because we are bored. And we are very well equipped to take on the risks that come with our steps.” He nodded at the meat he had lifted on his shoulder while he had been speaking. “If you excuse me now, you ordered me to take care of the girl, which, if I may say, definitely included making sure she won’t be murdered by a hungry hellhound. And it is either her or these steaks once he wakes, and I am sure even a servant from hell would prefer a handful of good steaks instead of a small human with barely any meat on her.”
