what finally got you out into queer spaces? i want to get out there but am struggling. how'd you personally go about it?
This is a great question in my opinion. And it can be difficult and different based on your own situation. For me I just really was sick of not having friends who could relate to my experiences and that was my final push to get out there more.
There’s a couple of things you can do that I would suggest. If you’re out, or are not in a situation where it would be risky to be outed to people in your life I would say try and find local queer groups or GSA (gender sexuality alliance.) clubs through google, or social medias. It’s a totally different world when you’re in a room of people who you can relate to in some way. For me, there’s a queer roller skating group and a gay film club nearby that I go to. However if you are in a remote, or conservative area this isn’t always an available or good option.
This is when the grand land of ✨social media✨comes in. There’s thousands upon thousands of discord groups for different ages groups, locations, and identities. Anything you can really think of. For example I’m in a discord server for LGBTQ people in my state who like alternative fashion! I’ve met many people this way, and it’s easier to find exactly what you’re looking for this way. It can also be nice from a social anxiety perspective, or for those who cannot leave their home for one reason or another.
Also surfing tags here on Tumblr and even instagram and TikTok can be an option to find friends and mutuals. But just be careful there as always with being on the internet.
At the end of the day, the only person who can make the decision to take the leap and look for groups and peers is you. No matter how much advice you get, it’s still your choice and action. I wish you luck.

This was a traditional drawing I did for a friends band album cover that wasn’t used. So now it lives here.

The midnight gospel is one of my favorite shows of all time. And both Pendleton Ward, and Duncan Trussel have been on my bucket list of people to meet one day for a long time. Very influential people in my art, and life.
