Tips for tourettes pt.1: School

These are just some tips on how to deal with tourettes syndrome or any tic disorder at school! I hope this helps you out as much as it has myself!

• First off, we got the 504 plan! If you dont have one yet, please get one. I beggeth of you! 🙏 If you dont know what it is, its basically a plan that gives you a free pass for a lot of things. For me, my 504 plans consists of me being able to bring a rolling backpack to school because I have a tic where I drop or throw things and I have to carry a school laptop so... Y'know. I can also bring fidgets in class such as a fidget cube, or sensory toys. I'm able to let all of my tics out without getting in trouble, which is key! I am able to get out of my classes four minutes early, so I can get to my next class before the hallways fill up. When there a big crowd of loud people, my tics tend to get worse. I am now able to eat snacks in class because my tics get VERY violent when I'm hungry. The list goes on, so if you're school allows 504 plans, please get one!

• Aight, second, we got supportive friends! I mean the type of friends whom you can tic around without them babying you, or laughing at you, or saying they wish they had tics. The type of friends who you can count on to comfort you when you're having a bad ticcing day. The type of friend who will take the time to educate themselves of your disorder and take care of you without making you uncomfy.

• See, now its time for the third one. WRIST BRACES!! Now, if you don't have a tic where you bang your wrist together, hit yourself with your wrists, or hit your chest with your wrists, this doesn't apply to you. But if you DO, then these will be VERY helpful to you! They will protect your wrists, and bones in your hand and forearm, and of course, the place you're hitting.

• For the fourth one, we gotta knotted pillow! This is also a protective object in which you can use to protect yourself and others, but its not just used for your wrists!! It actually helps with autism, and ADHD because its a sensory item. I don't know if it works for Anxiety, but it might, so please go check it out!

So the CRAZIEST shit just happened, alright? So I'm driving my car down this sort of secluded area listening to BONES and somewhat enjoying my life; I look behind me and there's this weird.. Guy following me. Like, his car has these sort of strange lights on top of them, and they're really throwing me off, right. Like, this bitch is killin my vibe, I'm just tryna listen to music and have a good time. Anyways... I-I pull over and he gives me a FUCKING SPEEDING TICKET!!

*sobs* Anyway, if you can take anything from my story and possibly learn something from it, i would say *cries* don't drive on secluded roads and have a good time, because scary men will pull you over and YOU DON'T WANT THAT!!

TS is not “cute” it’s a nightmare. It’s physically and mentally painful. It’s exhausting.

I’m not sure if yours developed from childhood trauma like mine did, but people saying that to someone who literally developed a neurological condition due to being so severely abused and traumatized is awful. Like, my brain is broken because of what others have put me through and you WANT this??

hi to that last anon that said they wanted tourettes lemme give you an insight to what it’s actually like

- raw cheeks all the time bc you cant stop biting yourself and/or bite your cheeks too much to stop from ticcing

-loss of sleep bc you can’t stop ticcing or thinking about how bad you need to tic

-like sleeping next to people? they sure don’t like sleeping next to you when you kick their walls all night. can’t help it tho, bc that’s tourettes

-constant bullying. even into adulthood. doesn’t matter that you can’t help it. it’s funny to everyone until you do something weird.

-eyeliner? nigh impossible

-actually, makeup in general.

-my medication choices? sedatives. some of them addictive. a lot of them actually, at least the ones your doctor will want to give you. Tourettes isn’t very well understood and not a lot of physicians can help you

- want a specialist then? lol try getting a good one on any insurance

-medication free treatment? a bite guard that presses on a nerve in your mouth. doesn’t work forever though, if at all. also probably not covered by insurance either.

You felt your chest rise and fall at a quick pace. Just being face to face with her was enough to scare anyone. Those piercing blue eyes drilling themselves into your soul. Those scarlet red lips lifting into a scowl. It scared the hell out of you. SHE scared the hell out of you. The man chasing her around - her assistant- gasped loudly, making the scene ever so much more dramatic than it had to be.

You quickly wiped the tears from your eyes and held your bruised hand against your chest. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get caught in your way! I was just cleaning up and didn't quite see you coming-" You stopped rambling when you noticed her staring at your satchel in which you kept your sketches in. The sketches were now all over the floor. They must've fell out of your bag when you scrambled back because Cruella's heel made a sharp impact with the back of your hand.

She looked at the papers and then back at you. Quite frankly, you were terrified of what her reaction might be. She slowly picked up one of your favorite sketches and glanced at it. After looking back at you once more, she smiled. "Brilliant. What's your name?"

Your heart pounded against your rib cage and your stomach dropped. Was this actually happening?! Was Cruella REALLY talking to you?? "I-I'm Y/n! It's nice to meet y-"

"Y/n Darling, your sketches are quite extraordinary. How would you like to be my new assistant?"

You couldn't believe it. You never expected THE Cruella De Ville to hire you as her assistant, much less acknowledge your existence. It was all too much to take in. Her other assistant's jaw dropped. " B-but Miss Cruella, what about m-me?" He asked, eyes taking sharp glances at me.

"What about you? Ah, yes. You're fired! New girl, over here."

Without a second thought, you scrambled and rushed over to the Queen of black and white.

To say Cruella was mean would be a massive understatement, considering the fact that her name quite literally translates to 'Cruel Devil'. She was like a wildfire ready to trap anyone into her flames of RAGE. She was savage, and vengeful to anyone who may challenge her. You never really knew why this was, but you didn't DARE make her angry.

It was only your first week working at the 'Hell Hall' and you were already rethinking your decision. In your first week almost 24 people had gotten fired over the smallest things, Cruella lost her voice from screaming at the end of each day, and she had set several masterpieces of clothing on fire because they were hideous according to her. You had only known this because you over watched from your lower ranks as a janitor.

You were only there to keep the place tidy and neat. Whether that was scrubbing floors, cleaning toilets and walls, dusting vases, or cleaning designing rooms from top to bottom. You weren't exactly fond of your job, but you went home with cash for you and your mom and that was the only thing that mattered to you.

Despite your position, you LOVED fashion. You always kept a book for sketching your designs in by your side. It was your dream job to work alongside Cruella. She was drop-dead gorgeous, magnificent in every possible way, and her work was stunning. Her ideas were original and fascinating. Nothing could compare and she KNEW that. Despite her horrifying personality, you were STILL fond of her.

"I don't CARE if there is a meeting at 3 and its 2:30, I'm going to take a two hour nap. If you have a problem with that, you can suck it!" You heard a familiar voice snap. You looked up from scrubbing the floors, only to be met with a 6 inch heel against the back of your hand. With a pathetic, loud yelp you fell backwards to be eye to unforgiving eye with THE Cruella De Ville.
