I’m writing to urge you to reject the Kids Online Safety Act, a misguided bill that would put vulnerable young people at risk. KOSA would fail to address the root issues related to kid’s safety online. Instead, it would endanger some of the most vulnerable people in our society while undermining human rights and children’s privacy. The bill would result in widespread internet censorship by pressuring platforms to use incredibly broad “content filters” and giving state Attorneys General the power to decide what content kids should and shouldn’t have access to online. This power could be abused in a number of ways and be politicized to censor information and resources. KOSA would also likely lead to the greater surveillance of children online by requiring platforms to gather data to verify user identity. There is a way to protect kids and all people online from egregious data abuse and harmful content targeting: passing a strong Federal data privacy law that prevents tech companies from collecting so much sensitive data about all of us in the first place, and gives individuals the ability to sue companies that misuse their data. KOSA, although well-meaning, must not move forward. Please protect privacy and stop the spread of censorship online by opposing KOSA.

It's crazy how kosa will affect the entire internet and yet there's barely enough of anyone speaking out about this. If you can raise awareness and spread the word, you should do it to the best of your ability. When the internet is a means of communication for so many people, it's unfair not to take action. I've seen people who thought it was dead just because we stopped talking about it! Don't just reblog posts or whatever, tell those in your actual personal life. Contact your senators and make your opposition known. I know they bring this back every year, and it's tiring, but don't give up now. We need to try all we can to prevent this from passing.

‘a little life’ by hanya yanagihara book review

this was my first read of 2024 and i actually really enjoyed this book but i can totally understand why people didn’t like it. it was definitely intense. i don’t think i would reread the entire thing but there are parts that i would go back to. i loved jude so fucking much and i also really liked how realistic the relationships felt, especially jude and willem’s. their relationship was not perfect and they both had their faults, but you could tell that they genuinely loved each other. i will say though there were times when i got lost when it came to the timeline of the events and a lot of the chapters were pretty long (but that’s kind of expected). i do feel like malcolm was overlooked a bit, especially when he died (though sophie’s death was probably the most overlooked), but again it makes sense that willem’s death had a bigger impact on jude than malcolm and sophie’s. this is a good book to read if you liked the secret history. i found myself kind of relating some of the characters to each other (*cough* jb and bunny). same thing goes if you’re a maruaders fan. i saw someone say that this was a modern day marauders au and i can’t unsee it. i’m not one to usually cry over books, however jude’s backstory and jude post willem’s death almost brought me to tears. i needed to take a day to process this book after i finished (i also had to make a playlist) so, if you were going to read this book, i would say to proceed with caution.

p.s. i know that there are so many more amazing characters like harold and andy and julia and richard but i don’t feel like i have the words to do them justice. and i think i would have to do a whole separate post about jb and jude’s relationship. especially when it comes to how much they remind me of henry and bunny.

After getting over the initial shock and heartbreak of this tweet and this reply, it hit me that (and I don't know if this is a cultural thing here in the middle east or an Islamic one)

A child has to be named even if they're stillborn.

For a child to not be named, that means there's no one left to name them. They were killed along with their entire family.

I hoped I was wrong, but I checked the list of victims of Israeli attacks and found this:

Israel has ended 47 Palestinian bloodlines over the course of this genocide (or perhaps more), so you might think that this little detail isn't that important, but I don't think we should get used to cruelty of this proportion, no matter how consistently Israel commits it.

The number of victims isn't just a number. These are people with full lives and hopes and dreams.

It's enough of a disaster that these families were wiped out, but in murdering them, Israel didn't just deprive them of their lives, hopes, and dreams. It deprived them of even the dignity to name their children.

It continues to deprive the remaining Palestinians of their most basic human rights.

What did the Palestinians do to not deserve food or water or electricity?

What did their *newborns* do to not deserve lives or at the very least names?!

This is the most harrowing form of terrorism I can think of. The genocidal Israeli occupation is the most despicable terrorist organization the world has had the displeasure of knowing.

The whole world should be deeply ashamed that it's not only allowing such heinous war crimes to be committed, but in a lot of ways, it's enabling them.

I don't know how anyone can be neutral about this.

Stand with Palestine, stand against the occupation. Against genocide.

i’ve seen so many turn a blind eye to the genocides happening in the world right now in order to “protect their peace”. i just don’t understand how in a time of MULTIPLE GENOCIDES where THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE are getting MURDERED on a daily basis there are people who only care about their own peace. i am all for prioritizing your mental health however in times of GENOCIDE, actively refusing to speak up or help in any way (like petitioning or sharing a post) just screams ignorance. there are so many influencers and celebrities who’ve said stuff like this and it baffles me every time. i mean how can you only care about yourself when there are hundreds and thousands of innocents, most of which are children, dying in such horrid ways everyday?
