It's been ages since I read this trilogy, so sadly, I've forgotten a lot of details, so I would need raincheck to come back to it once I refresh my memory. Also, given that the fandom for these novels is so small, I have no way to know of headcanons or opinions. 🤷♀️

💛: What is a popular ship you just can't get behind, and why?
One that I can't really wrap my mind around is Wuko. I just can't see it. Mako spent his childhood and adolescence caring for his brother, and that's perfectly fine because Bo is his little brother and the only family he has left, so he did what he did out of love. But to saddle him with a needy boy king , it's just unfair. I get Mako isn't the most liked character by fandom, but he deserves better than this.

Kuvira. Hers is a cautionary tale on what happens when you have a well-meaning but misguided individual who buys on her own hype and gets intoxicated on her own hubris.

Maybe this is my Lin loving bias talking, but I think Suyin isn't as morally good as she would like us to believe.

💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?
I get she's a major antagonist, and all (that we could argue might've been "hit with the villain stick" for plot purposes, but that's a conversation for another day) but I do feel her character arc gets truncated when fandom focuses solely on Book 4, erasing and willfully ignoring the fact that she used to be on the heroes' side on Book 3. Her heel turn can be construed as a tragic one, especially when she's the only villain who ended up surrendering.
💖: What is your biggest unpopular opinion about the series?
And speaking of antagonists (because he should be regarded as one), Varrick got away with a lot by the series and never had to face consequences of his actions, but instead was rewarded. I can see why he's a fandom darling, but I don't like him, and it's irritating how he got better treatment than even Lin.

Although I've read all three novels, I haven't dove deep enough into fandom waters to get an impression on their interpretations of the characters aside from the massive, unavoidable Gideon/Harrow shipping that seems to filter through every corner of Tumblr 😆
📖: If you had to remove one book from the series, which would you choose?
I don't think it would be possible to remove a book because a lot of context would be lost. From what I've gathered, some readers didn't like the second due to the change of POV, at least initially, but that's exactly what makes the revelations so impactful.

💖: What is your biggest unpopular opinion about the series?
Varrick gets a big pass from the series and from fandom. Heck, he even got a happy ending with a wedding and everything. Compare that to how Lin found out the identity of her biological father, and it's evident Varrick was a series darling who got away with a lot of shit.
💕: What is an unpopular ship that you like?
Rarepairs are my jam, so any of them could be unpopular compared to the fandom darlings, but I think Linvira and Kuvirasami, in particular, could be deemed "problematic" by some fans.
