Little worldbuilding notes

• Currency is the Shell, though real shells fell out of fashion centuries ago. Now they’re made of bronze and silver in the shape of a shell. One silver is worth 10 bronze shells.

• Horses have gone extinct only fifty years ago. Now, transportation is done by giant moa, though domestication is a long process that has yet to wield fruitful results.

• Dragons have been extinct for over a century, as have the people that worshipped them. The evolutionary cousins of dragons, Pterodraconids, are still around.

• Milk is harvested mainly from goats, as aurochs have not been domesticated. Instead, wild cows are seen as spiritual wanderers, and are revered.

• Getting a cat to follow you is a sign of good luck. They are fairly tame, but still wild animals. Having one choose to stay in your home is seen as a blessing.

• Clovers are associated with birth, and weaving them into the hair of those that have just given birth is traditional in elven culture.

• Magic exists, though it is not entirely understood. Practice of it is very limited.

• There are many villages and hamlets that dot the land, though the continental map does not usually mark them. It is customary for each city-state to have local maps that supply their locations. Each town has at least one Lorekeeper.

Kris: Despair

- The tunnel never had a light. You wish for nothing because you know you'll receive nothing, and your hopes died out long ago. The only thing that keeps you going is the thrill of emptiness you feel when things don't turn out your way. It's bitter. It's proof. Proof that you don't feel this way for nothing.

Dah’ni: The Blackhole

- There's a hole where your heart used to be and nothing is filling that hollow void. You could drown in a world curated for you, and still nothing seems to fit. It eats you alive knowing you're unsure how to satiate the hunger of your soul. It's barely hunger, it's more like a blackhole.

Yugo Nora: Yearning

- The pain in your chest bubbles knowing that what you want may never be yours. You're lost in a fantasy world, or consumed by what you wish you were or had as opposed to what you do. It's hard to appreciate what's around you when you're appreciating the hope of what could be instead.

Vivi Skarsgård in the Yugo Nora universe

I saw the call by @cruisingheightswithdragons and @yugonora-comic and decided to recycle my baby girl, Vivi, for this world. She is repurposed from the Metalocalypse Siren!AU in which she was a siren hiding among humans as a land barmaid. I'll be taking some parts of her lore in that AU and bring it over to the world of Milo. The above pictures are some references for Vivi's human form because I got zero art skills. Anyways, let's go!

Vivi is a human who runs a tavern on the coast of Tailwind and also makes their own wine. Specializing in dry wines, both red and white, she is a motivated business woman determined to celebrate the fruits of her hometown's labor. Her tavern, The Siren's Song, is an odd establishment being that most of the grapes that come in from Lough are meant to be processed and exported to Yellow City. Thanks to some personal investments and proper saving, Vivi was able to secure a supply line from an independent vineyard. The citizens of Tailwind enjoy her products, but they still treat her as a bit of an outlaw.

Along with a lorekeeper, Tailwind has other forms of bookkeeping. This is to keep record of imports, exports, wine manufacturing and overall inventory. Not only does Vivi maintain her own records, she has also been appointed to monitor and document the incoming grapes. Making sure they get to their right locations, the correct amount has been shipped and quality control before manufacturing begins. Her attention to detail has kept that part of Tailwind's business fluid and functional.

In the past, Vivi would be more hands on with the process. There was an incident on the beach where a sea monster breached the surface and attacked her. She survived, but injured her leg badly. Because of the nerve damage and muscle atrophy, Vivi requires the use of a cane to keep stable. She will have days where her leg causes too much pain and she wouldn't be able to get much done. Although her life has been altered, she does not have any hate toward monsters. Instead choosing to focus on her work and her community.

That's what I got so far. More might come later on, but this seems like a good base.

I feel like every single primordial eliatrope has a curse they have to deal with whether they realize it or not.

It was obvious with Qilby’s case, but with the other primordials, not so much. Maybe it’s because Qilby’s curse outshines them all which is why we don’t really realize what the others might be dealing with.

Glip’s gift: Gifted with the will and dedication to teaching the history of the eliatropes to the next generation.

Glip’s curse: His copious source of knowledge for the Eliatrope children has to be studied and memorized and repeated over and over again so he can transfer it again and again, essentially teaching the same thing for eternity.

Mina’s gift: Gifted with the wisdom to solve all the quarrels that could divide their people.

Mina’s curse: Has to constantly solve the problems of others no matter how small it may be in her eyes.

Yugo’s gift: Gifted with the heroic passion to adventure, travel, and protect his people.

Yugo’s curse: Constantly lives in danger. He can never rest from it all because his warrior spirit cannot allow it.

Nora’s gift: Gifted with innocence and being free-spirited. To preserve these feelings and spread them to the people.

Nora’s curse: Innocence easily gets ruined.

Chibi’s gift: Gifted with the brilliant mind to invent.

Chibi’s curse: All inventions made for his people rest on his shoulders. One fatal mistake and everything crumbles. He has to be careful if the invention properly works.

More Info about Vivi in Milo

I've been referring to her as Yugo Nora!Vivi to keep myself on track. I was talking with @cruisingheightswithdragons about her life in the world of Milo and other features of the trade towns. Wanted to drop some short story bits related to @yugonora-comic

Bonus tavern references

~ The Siren's Song's wines range in price. Bottles can be sold for as low as 10 silver shells. The most expensive wine they make, Coral Dream, is a spring seasonal and the only sweet wine they sell. It goes for 300 silver shells due to the limited amount of grapes they have to make the wine with. It's been told that it tastes like cotton candy.

~ There is a rumor in Tailwind that Vivi is actually part sea monster herself due to the fact she is unstable on her feet. Her attack caused her nerve and muscle damage which affects her balance and gait. Vivi shakes these allegations, but does take comfort in being near the water. She wears thick, supportive boots to hide her injuries.

~ Vivi is part of a economics council. She has two main colleagues. Alice who takes care of exports and Stefan who takes care of the internal economy of Tailwind. All three of them work with Lord Blodogtårer. They report their findings to him and do their best to fulfill any of his requests. The Lord is a progressive Lord and knows they need to make agreements with neighboring towns in order to expand their manufacturing. Has some questionable ideas, but his thought process is only for the betterment of Tailwind.

~ Each night, she prays to the god Nydal and drinks chamomile tea with honey in his honor. In hopes that his spirit will heal her or ease her symptoms enough to get through the next day. Vivi has done this for so long and deep down she doesn't think it will ever work. But it has become her nightly routine.

~ Vivi supports the proposal for trade routes with Stone Yard. She's looking to update her infrastructure but the contractors do not have enough resources to go around. In order to have some extra funds, Vivi makes it a point to crack down on overspending and overstocking in the imports department. That way they have some money to put down should it be needed.

~ Her lover is a traveling musician. A blonde, blue eyed man with guitar skills who is adored across the land. She doesn't see him much, but bore his child anyway. Their son, Anders, is around Yugo Nora's age and helps his mother around the tavern. He aspires to be Tailwind's next lorekeeper.

~ Some citizens of Tailwind do NOT support the trade route with Stone Yard because they believe it will destroy and change their idyllic community. Vivi makes little points to reason with her neighbors like pointing out collapsing roofs and rocky roads. A few change their mind, most are set in their ways.
