They meet at farmer's market one day after David's been with Jake but before the general store closes. As the idea for RA starts to take shape, he talks it through with her and she helps with moral support, but Ray is the one who helps David get his store off the ground. They break up amicably as David gets busy with store after having been together for less than 6 months and never saying "I love you."

David meets Patrick when Patrick comes to do drop offs at RA one day: he has started working for Heather. He tells David he mostly helps with packaging and labeling and the business side of things. But David goes to farm one day and sees him in a t-shirt doing farm tasks, and David didn't think that a guy being all sweaty would do it for him, but when Patrick lifts the hem of his shirt to wipe his brow, David is done for.

Heather, of course, sees their chemistry immediately and doesn't let them be idiots and dance around each other for months. Their first date is that night.
