"Tha's a fair noggin on you for a wee amount of thoughts," The man leans against the bar with a smile, you pull your shoulders closer to your ears, try to hide the shiver his voice sends down your spine, the way you can hear his smile through the low rumble of his tone, "Nah, ahm only jokin'."

He leans closer, settled heavy on his elbows. You do your best to ignore the way his biceps flex, bigger than you could wrap a hand around and straining the fit of his tee. He's the sort of guy you would have avoided in high school, the sort that absolutely would not approach you for anything less than cold hard cash. You wonder if he's got friends somewhere in the bar keeping an eye on him.

"You're not English are you?" He asks after a moment of watching you. Your eyes dart to him, meet a brilliant blue that lights up excitedly when your eyes touch his. You're quick to look back at your game, clearing another line as you creep closer to your high score. "Too quiet to be English," He surmises. You raise your brows, shaking your head at your phone. This man really isn't getting it.

"Can ah kiss yer face then?" He pivots abruptly. It's unexpected enough that you misplace your next piece and have to rush to try and recover, swearing up a storm as you fail your marathon. He gives a low whistle, and you feel your cheeks burn. "What a mouth ya got on ya-" you close your phone and stare at the bar, "-and such a bonnie accent."

"Are you done?" You ask, finally breaking under his smile, "Just go tell your buddies you did whatever you said you were goin' ta do and leave me alone."

"What is that?" The guy tips his head, "Texas?"

"Tennessee," you correct, wincing at how quickly your retort comes, and how wide his smile grows. Folks in the UK always guess Texas, doesn't matter how different your accent is, or how much you try to hide it. You'd bet he was hoping you'd correct him.

"What a tidy thing ya are," He shakes his head, like he can't help the movement of it, slow and imploring, his fingers find their way over the small of your back and you stiffen, "cannae help wantin' a bite of ya." He cages you against the bar, heat radiating off his broad chest, his brows drawing down as he looks over you, like you're a meal waiting to be served.

"What I wouldnae give tae be between yer thighs, bet ya squirm don't ya hen?" He murmurs, drawing you close with the hand on your back. Warmth rushes over your body. Somehow you're less confident he's been put up to this. Most guys don't go so far as to... well you're hesitant to say proposition you when he mostly just seems to be giving you a wish list, but you have never been on the receiving end of this sort of attention. Then again, usually you're out with your friend, serving as the buffer between her and the men that paw at her.

"That's not funny," You tell him.

"Ahm nae laughin'," He responds easily, his voice a purr above the crowded bar, "Ah've got a nice job, ya could come home with me, be mah little wife. Ah'd take care of ya."

Something in the way he says it, the tip of his head and flint in his eyes, when he leans close you tilt your head for him. The brush of his lips against your neck send goosebumps over your skin, you can't help the little shiver it pulls from you. You're better than this, better than falling for some pushy asshole with an accent, get it together. You settle your hands on his chest --you don't admire how solid it is, don't give his well muscled pecs a little squeeze, don't consider running your fingers down his front to feel if he's got abs to go with those-- and push him back.

"I'm alright on my own thank you," You tell him, "but you can go ahead and pay my tab for botherin' me." You hop off the stool and head for the door, listening to the warm chuckle that sinks into the background of the bar behind you. Somehow you don't doubt that the man, whoever he is, will pay your small bill. You do doubt you'll ever see him again.

He's the first person you're introduced to at the faculty meeting.

"Dr. John Mactavish," The dean introduces with a smile. Dr. Mactavish holds out his hand with a wolf's smile, and you take it with a glare. He wraps his calloused fingers around yours and doesn't let go after the quick shake you give him. In fact his thumb rubs over the back of your hand, and you again have to suppress the shiver he sends through you.

"Johnny," He tells you, "you call me Johnny."

"Dr. Mactavish," You insist, and he tips his head, his smirk making heat drop into the pit of your stomach.

"That what you're hopin' tae be called hen? Or dae ya just nae want anyone knowin' you're sweet on me?"

I'm a bit surprised how many people are against the UK billboard! I did donate, but I never expected this billboard to have the same effect or visibility as the Times Square one... And of course, I also don't expect it to have real impact on whether we get picked up or not. I thought we might get a few news articles about it in the UK and a morale boost from it.

I understand the concerns about the fundraiser transparency, of course. I don't know how other fandoms have done these fundraisers, whether they've been better at organizing them... There's certainly a lot to learn!

I've seen some people suggest that we shouldn't buy another billboard because... we already had one? I was just reading about the Wynonna Earp campaign and apparently they bought over 250 billboards between s3 and s4 when the show ran out of funding (I also found a Twitter thread with pics of 100 Times Square billboards they bought). If they had that many, then how is 2 billboards for OFMD overkill?

This fandom gets hate for the campaign no matter what we do, even for just tweeting about the show... Isn't visibility exactly what our campaign needs, though? Are we going to tone down the campaign just so we don't get harassed? I don't really see the point in trying to protect the fandom, when the only way to really do that is to completely shut up about the show. And I certainly won't be shutting up about it :D

Anyway. These are just my thoughts on the subject. I'm very curious to see the new billboard! We'll probably learn a lot from it, from how it affects the fandom and how the press reacts to it (if they do)... And of course, how DJ reacts to it.

I'm with you-- I'm sure there is always something more to learn! I had read the transparency policy a few times right before it was announced (cause I was asked to put it up on my repository), and it seemed like it was pretty straight forward-- but obviously some things needed to be clarified! From what I've seen on the Save OFMD Crew Discord since then, they're working on taking feedback and are going to be updating it to make it more clear.

I also saw that there was a vote going on about leaving the website the same, and I think that passed, but dont quote me on that.

HOLLLY SHIT 250 billboards!? WOW. Well I'm glad they found some funding, jeez! And hey-- it worked right? I think they got their renewal, or at least they're getting a finale.

I respect your thoughts on the subject and I really apreciate you reaching out and expressing them! It's good to hear multiple points of view on it. I definitely agree that there's always going to be someone mad about the fandom. It's just hard I think for our friends who have been around and probably have PTSD from all the hate by this point. I think that means we, the folks still able to do it, should be the front liners on all this and help fight that hate back.

Legions of Doom

Yeah, so my country’s leaders have decided to double-down on the anti-immigration rhetoric that they shamefully manipulated then rode to get them into power. You know, because that worked so well for Brexit. Let’s keep pushing that classic. One of the first things our newish PM, Rishi Sunak (note: a son of immigrants), did was to announce that they were going to be cracking down on the “small boats” - i.e. the ones that desperate people use to reach these shores. Pretty despicable, right? Don’t worry, our “anti-woke” Tory Party in charge has barely got started.

You may already have heard about the plan headed up by Suella Braverman (another child of immigrants), UK Home Secretary (reinstated after being fired for being a security risk) to deport “illegal immigrants” to Rwanda, an expensive (and apparently illegal) notion that hasn’t really got off the ground yet, and you might be thinking: there’s no lower they can sink. Hold onto your life jackets.

The Immigration Minister, Robert Jenrick, decided that the lobbies of the children's asylum centres were too welcoming, with their colourful, cheerful murals of famous cartoon characters, so ordered the walls to be painted grey; like a dull, battleship grey.

Then it was revealed that the asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants who were currently being housed in hotels (rather than, you know, having their applications to live here properly processed so they could earn money, house themselves, and contribute to society) were costing us too much money. So, you’re going to process them? Oh, no, you’re going to put them on a barge.

But not just any barge… the Bibby Stockholm is special. It’s been the place to house folk temporarily for a few decades now, in various parts of Europe, including homeless folk and asylum seekers in Germany and the Netherlands, plus oil rig and off-shore windfarm construction workers, and is currently moored off the Dorset Coast in the south of England. It’s designed to house about 200 people. It’s been retrofitted to fit 500. Yes, you read that right. And not by enlarging so much as putting bunk-beds in. I’m sure that won’t make anyone feel like they’re being housed in a floating prison… It’s got, you know, a multi-faith prayer room and a gym and catering and medical facilities. And inhabitants will get day release. And 24 hour security.

So it’s safe, right? It’s got extra fire escapes now and… no? No. It’s been assessed and there are some severe worries about how fire safe it is (when professionals start using the term “death trap”, it does tend to make one think, you know?), and how 500 people in there are likely to not be able to get out in case of a fire. Also that any outbreak of disease is likely to spread like wildfire. Ironically. But it’s not like you’re going to put people at risk like that, huh? Oh, and there’s a lot of standing water in the system because it’s not been inhabited or sorted out for a good long while, so you’re going to check for things like mould and legionella bacteria, right?

Wait, you’ve asked for legionella tests but you’re going to start putting people on the thing anyway, before the results come in? That’s… bold.

And… wait, you’ve now put a man on board who has tuberculosis? And you’re threatening people who don’t comply with being put on board that they’ll get no benefits? Even though they’ve been advised that they’re allowed to refuse to go, legally? But the Tory Deputy Chairman went on record to tell people who didn’t want to go that they could, and I quote, “Fuck off back to France.” So that's okay then. Problem solved.

And now you’ve found legionella in the water on the barge. Oh, three days ago? Uh, haha, that seems odd. So… you’re evacuating, right? Well, look; there’s a bar you’ve finally managed to clear. It’s somewhere in Hades, but sure… Have a gold star.

I’m sure there’s something I’ve missed, but that’s the crux of it. I’m not saying, you know, death camps, but, if anything, I might well be saying… death camps…

Oh, and then there’s the whole thing with the hotels where over 100 asylum seekers who are unaccompanied children have been kidnapped in the last year. Nothing to see here. Our coasts and waterways are filling with raw sewage, but everything’s fine. All part of the plan.

I think what gets me is that when Georgia started making these posts, it was like a "Ha ha, kitchen mistake, so relatable" kind of one-time thing. But there have been so many of these posts since then that it's long since stopped being funny and gone entirely into the realm of unrelatable...and then when you see Anna making an Insta post copying Georgia two months ago (while making a Staged reference, of course), it very quickly starts to seem fake.

Taken all together, what I am thinking is that Georgia is purposely burning these items of food for the sake of planned photo ops. I know that sounds crazy, but ultimately it's about furthering her brand--though I wish someone would let her and AL both know that "being deliberately bad at cooking" is not a personality trait--and she is not worried about wasting food because she (presumably) has something else to feed the kids.

Yet, as you said, Anon, it seems enormously tone deaf to do this when inflation and scarcity is a massive issue in the UK. It seems clear that Georgia is someone who has never experienced food insecurity in any way and rather than showing consideration toward those who are forced to do without and trying to set an example, this makes her come across as self-involved, and her mindset appears to be, "It's fine, we've got the money to buy something else." Which is not at all cute, but...there it is.

So those are pretty much my thoughts on the "Georgia burning food" stories. I also have a bunch of other GT-related Anons still to answer, so I ask folks to be patient with me as I try to catch up. Thanks for writing in! x

Wow, a couple of my posts have got popular recently. Hello, new people! I'm an autistic trans man with ADHD, a diverse array of other health issues and disabilities, and no money! 😘 This is a sideblog so you won't get any follows or comments from this url, but I appreciate you for being here. I figure I'd better make a pinned post since a lot of the same things come up frequently in replies and I might save some folks some time:

I'm not in the US. I am from there but I've lived in central Europe for over 15 years now. A lot of stuff is different here. I know a lot of folks reading this blog are in the US or UK and a lot of folks try to make suggestions for some of the troubles I have but 99% of the time it's something that's ubiquitous in the US or UK but straight-up not available here whatsoever. I appreciate the intent, but if you see a really simple, easy solution to a problem I post on here, odds are I've thought of it, I've investigated it, I've tried it, and it's either not available or it doesn't work for me for one reason or another.

Things that aren't available here include air conditioners, box fans, square hepa filters, most dating apps (in fact most apps in general), a lot of streaming services, many types/brands of medication and types of medical equipment that are super common in other countries, Amazon (seriously), Etsy, and a lot of other online shopping sites, a truly incredible number of food and drink items (especially processed or pre-made ones), and most social groups/clubs/events (at least ones accessible to an English speaker). (And much, much more!)

I have a lot of medical issues which I sometimes write about here. I don't necessarily explain everything in every post because that would mean writing a novel every time, but since people keep asking, yes, I know what EDS is, yes, I know what MCAS is, yes, I am investigating these possibilities along with many others with my doctors, but it is an obscenely slow process. This country has a serious lack of specialists in a lot of conditions that are lesser-known or which have only been properly understood in recent years. Overall the medical system here is quite good and I can go to almost any doctor and get almost any of the medications available in this country without paying anything, but that comes at the cost of a language barrier and a lot of outdated diagnostic standards for particular conditions like autism, ADHD, and the aforementioned EDS and MCAS. In short, I'm working on it, but my options are limited and the process is slow.

The disability system is also different here. I know the system in the US is horrific and my heart goes out to everyone struggling to survive in it. Fortunately it is better here. It's a very long, slow process to get approved (mainly because you have to get a pretty significant paper trail first, and the lack of specialists means it can take months to get appointments), but approval is based mostly on the recommendations of doctors, the amount you get is calculated based on your income and how much working capacity you have lost, and it does not carry restrictions on how much money you are allowed to earn or have at any time. I am currently in the process of trying to get some benefits but it is likely to take another year if not longer.

If other stuff starts coming up frequently in comments and replies, I'll add answers here. For now, thanks for reading what I have to share and for the kind words (and kind attempts to help) that many of you have left me. I hope that what I write is helpful to some of you. It's hard to find time and energy to write a lot at the moment, but I will try to post more, since it's clear that a lot of people relate and are looking for more of what I have to share.

I’ve been a Pagan for a while now, but I’ve not delved much into animal spirit work before. So it’s come as a bit of a surprise to realise that Polar Bear has been reaching out to me. Like a a lot of closed cultures that I don’t want to offend, or take from (I live in the UK), and I was hoping maybe you or one of your lovely followers may have some advice? My best recommendation is ‘DIY Animism’ by Lupa Greenwolf (for UK folks it’s easiest to get it through amazon, unfortunately) – it’s a very beginner-friendly book that encompasses a lot and stays far and clear of appropriation, as well as diving into animal spirits as a general class vs animal spirits as an Archetype of the species, venerating them, connecting with them, and how to invite them into your life in a way that is comfortable for both you and the spirit. Plus, if you like journaling or writing things out to make sense of them, it has a lot of prompts to help delve into connecting with animal spirits. Her book also has a booklist! Recommendations within a recommendation. :-)

I have a few other animal spirit related books but they require a lot of discernment and outside research to suss out which parts have been appropriated and which parts haven’t. If you’re interested in those, let me know and I can grab some titles.

Some basic advice from my own personal experience is: let the animal spirit lead! Often they are quite open and vocal about how you can best connect and venerate them, and what they may in turn help you with.
